McCain, Obama lead off week with dueling ads

(CNN) – For the first time since the financial crisis broke, the economy took a back seat in the ad wars Monday morning.

John McCain’s campaign released a new spot – “Chicago Machine” – that takes aim at the politics and political figures of Barack Obama’s adopted hometown.

“Barack Obama. Born of the corrupt Chicago political machine,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot, citing lobbyist William Daley, “political godfather” Emil Jones, much-investigated Governor Rod Blagojevich and convicted felon Tony Rezko. “With friends like that, Obama is not ready to lead,” he says.

I didn’t see the “focus of the story” being the violation of election laws, although that was mentioned.

The focus is the clandestine “astroturffing” by Axelrod, Winner, et al to smear Sarah Palin with lies.

If those efforts can be tied to Obama’s campaign, it’s incredibly damaging. He means he truly will do or say anything to win.

I don’t know if it’s illegal for the youtubes and nasty shit said on SNL and Maher…but it is extremely vulgar, nasty and immoral TO SAY THE LEAST. Being the capitol city, they have a lot of articles about what’s going on in state legislature, which is back in session today and tomorrow over an ethics bill.

If you look around you can find some links to articles about the Gov. with mention of Emil Jones and Rezko, an article about the disbarring of an attorney who testified against Rezko, and they allow comments so you can see how the crowd feels in Springfield about our Chicago machine politics and leaders. Lots of negatives about Obama, really being brought to the forefront with this latest legislative over time session.

I have a question for you guys living in swing states. I’ve not seen much McCain ads but I’ve seen some from Obama, I’m guessing McCain is giving up on California. Before anyone starts arguing with me, let me ask an FEC attorney. OK. I’m back. The answer is no. If I pay a friend to make an entertaining video to post on the Internets the FEC has no right to know how much I paid my friend to make the video.

Perhaps you should ask the IRS; they don’t like people giving “friends” $100,000 dollars to “make videos” that isn’t declared as income or shown as a legitimate “business expense”. There better be some business connection between that money because individual gifts are limited to $12,000 and $24,000 per couple per year.

Gifts that can qualify for the threshold include money, real estate, personal property, below market interest loans and future interests in property.

And that leaves a lot of money left for the “giver”or the “recipient” to account for if it doesn’t fall under the FEC jurisdiction.

Kgirl – Hiding behind race is the last vestige of pathos. What does it say if every time we use phraseology we have to look at it through a race lens.

Its like with reparations. Many people feel that reparations are in order. But as someone who has a good number of black friends and relatives, the issues that come up are having to deal with the truth. There were free people of color who owned slaves – Savannah and Louisiana. How does one deal with that.

Search for real racism and eliminate it, and try and be a bit more sensitive to those who might be in a different place than you politically, but who are NOT using a term of colloquial speech, when they have no idea who the other person is.

Why is that? Is it because the very company that Shackelford links to was the PR firm hired for Plame/Wilson? And you think that Axelrod is NOT a master in astroturfing? Perhaps you should examine his little deal with ConEd.

I don’t give a damn if it didn’t violate FEC rules, or even IRS standards. What I do give a damn about is exposing the Big 0 for being the direct opposite of what he claims he is; a different kind of politician. A new breed; honest, upright. Which is all pure bunk.

It seems to me that Obama does his homework where illegal activities are concerned. He knew the DNC would back his cheating and lying in the caucus’s and primaries, and even steal a few delegates for him. Its called money folks and much of the money raised by Obama goes to fund these illegal and immoral activities, yet there is nothing done to him. If the law is corrupt and on your side of corruption you can do whatever the hell you want to do and nobody but nobody is going to bother you about it, they wont even admit that it exists!
Obama couldn’t have done this in the republican party, they would have thrown him out on his ass where he belongs. They would not have allowed him to get away with stealing the nomination, their votes were counted.
Now when all is said and done and Obama loses by an immense margin, maybe then he will go back to Chicago and live off the people there. I know a place without heat in the slums he can get for a song. I don’t think those people in Chicago want him back there either. I am sure Obama and Resko’s homes are heating nicely in the winter, with the money set aside for those in need in Chicago. I guess they figured they needed it or wanted it more than the people of Chicago it was to benefit.
