Joe Biden’s Gaffes

Oh, Joe. We can hardly keep up with the misstatements. Even your junior, er senior partner had to correct you today. Well, I’ve been reading several articles about Biden’s many recent gaffes, but Brit Hume sums them up pithily in his show today, including this doozie:

Biden spoke of President Franklin Roosevelt’s having gone on television after the stock market crash of 1929. But Roosevelt was not president in 1929, and television was not present. …

Here’s more of Biden’s report:

While the focus has been on Sarah Palin since she was announced as John McCain’s running mate, Barack Obama’s number two has had quite a run. Joe Biden told CBS he thought an Obama campaign ad mocking John McCain as a computer illiterate was “terrible.” Later, after actually seeing the ad, Biden said it was OK.

Then, Biden spoke of President Franklin Roosevelt’s having gone on television after the stock market crash of 1929. But Roosevelt was not president in 1929, and television was not present.

Biden also said neither he nor Obama supports clean coal technology in America. But Obama does support clean coal. Obama also said of Biden’s instant criticism of the government’s big loan to insurance to AIG, “I think Joe should have waited …”

Earlier, Biden said Hillary Clinton may have been a better vice presidential pick than he and said that paying more taxes is the patriotic duty of the rich. And, he encouraged wheelchair-bound Missouri State Senator Chuck Graham to stand up at a campaign rally. …

Sure that is why McCain increased his lead among independence by 6 points and Obama is down by 3 point in just 3 days. Tihs is Gallup that is over sampling Democats by 5 to 7 points. Ramussen has them tied. Do you really think that people will install a Novice into the White House with these type of problems. This is all about trust in which McCain has double digit lead. People will discuss it for weeks how the economy ended up helping McCain.

A new Lifetime Television poll finds the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin as Sen. John McCain’s running mate “has greatly increased the GOP ticket’s appeal to women.”

Key finding: McCain-Palin holds a 44% to 42% lead over Obama-Biden on who has a “better understanding of women and what is important” to them. Obama held a 52% to 18% lead on the question in July.

Comment by No way No Mccain | 2008-09-24 11:26:56

Lifetime channel? Oh the poll of polls? LOL. You are kidding right?
Palin has no idea about my life and she holds no appeal for me. Palin’s beliefs do not represent “most woman”. In fact she has the complete opposite views of main stream America except for the same people who still support Bush. Republicans.
I did not support Hillary because she was a woman. I supported her because of her policies. Palin is a fool and a rethug. No thanks.

Comment by Brian | 2008-10-23 14:43:04

Let me guess…you would have aborted Palin’s down syndrome son wouldn’t you?

You think Sarah was stupid for not aborting him.

You are an elitist feminist bitch who really can’t stand how little of womanhood you have left.

Anyone that thinks Catholics are going to vote for Obama — particularly after they learn of his repetitive support of infanticide — is seriously mistaken.

That video linked above is one of the absolute best pieces I have come across during this entire election cycle. It will have an effect, to be sure.

Karzai showed her such respect. It appears they got on very well.

I can’t wait for the debates!

48 hours until Barry bombs on foreign policy. I wonder if Hillary will be in the back piping the answers to him in an earbud. The movie The Wedding Planner comes to mind, when Jennifer Lopez feeds the best man his speech.

There is no doubt they will pull out all of his Hollywood tricks.

Oh, and did anyone else notice during the 60 Minutes interview that they couldn’t zoom in close enough to McCain’s face to not miss any scars he has from his bouts with skin cancer BUT make sure they filmed Barry on his best side? Guess Babs lent her people to make sure the lighting was right and the angles were perfect! ;)

I’m Catholic and while while I may never have an abortion, it would be silly of me to vote Republican just based on religion and then when the black and hispanic babies are born most Republicans treat them like crap. Do not speak for all Catholics. We are not all the same. Only God will judge us. It’s no wonder that most non educated ignorant voters out there are voting Republican– let’s see if the big companies and McCain supporters actually care about you!

ee, you don’t read the find print. All your stats, except for the independents is in the margin of error. Which means, Senators McCain and Obama are in a dead heat. It’s a tie. Neither is doing better than the other.

From my recollection, in recent elections, independents have been more likely to vote Democratic. If you did a little research, you would probably find that a similar percentage of independents supported Vice President Gore and Senator Kerry over President Bush. Oh dear, a tie again.

I’d suggest you don’t call the election before 11pm EST on November 4th. Even then you may want to hold off in case either candidate decides he wants a recount in a state or two like the 2000 election.

There are so many polls to chose from. I agree Obamas numbers are going up because MCain is the king of gaffes. The fundamentals of the economy are strong? Oops, nevermind. Woman are turning now that Palins initial appeal is going down. The more the campaign tries to hide her, the more her numbers are slipping. Her positives have gone down 18 points in 10 days. That’s what happens when people start finding out that you are Bush in drag. At least there are still some people who get what McSame/Failin are about. MCain is not the man he was in 2000 and even the conservatives are turning on him. Phony and a liar. I am a dem and voted for McCain in 2000. He is not the same man.

Talk about a completely FLAWED POLL:

First off, the party weighting was INSANELY BIASED (38 dem, 28 repub, 29 independent, 5 other

Excuse me…MORE indy’s than repubs? Ah, there’s no liberal bias at ABC or WaPo…holy freaking crap that’s sick!

And then there’s this little bit of nuance that goes unnoticed unless you read the fine print..

“This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone September 19-22, 2008, among a random national sample of 1,082 adults, 916 registered voters and 780 likely voters. The survey includes additional interviews with randomly selected African Americans, for a total of 163 black respondents. The added interviews (commonly referred to as an “oversample”) were completed to ensure there were enough African American respondents for separate analysis;”

They say this 163 block was not ‘over-represented’ in the poll, but it WAS represented as an add on and they do NOT say how much!

So please, post a legitimate poll, that one is absolute garbage.

Take care,
Patrick

Any poll that shows Obama up is garbage on this website. Listen to McCain and it is clear why his numbers are going down. His pandering to try to get woman voters backfired. It lasted all of 2 weeks.
Yes of course it’s a flawed poll because they polled AA? Give me a break. Injecting race or gender is fine if it comes from repubs. Pathetic.

Comment by DAB | 2008-09-24 07:21:51

The ABC poll was taken during the height of the Wall Street panic so I would not put much stock in it yet. Daily tracking shows 48/48 (Rasmussen) and Gallup with a 3 point Obama lead (down from 6).

Exactly where the race stands will become clearer after a debate or two so it’s too early for anyone to be popping champagne corks just yet. Nerve wracking though it may be, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Comment by No way No Mccain | 2008-09-24 11:34:05

It does not matter how the debates go. Supporters of McCain will say he won and supporters of Obama will say he won. Everyone is already entrenched in their views. It is not going to matter. McCain with his ” my friends” is not going to win over any voters. Obama with his ums will not win over voters. I am ready for Nov 4th and this spin to be over.

Joe is not very bright. I’ve listened to him for many years in Washington.

Here’s his wonderful academic record from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biden

He graduated [from U. of DE] with a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in history and political science in 1965,[2] ranked 506th of 688 in his class.[12]

He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968, where by his own description he again underperformed and ranked 76th of 85 students. During his first year there, he was accused of having plagiarized 5 of 15 pages of a law review article. Biden said it was inadvertent due to his not knowing the proper rules of citation, and Biden was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F, which was subsequently dropped from his record.

Jon Stewart had Bill Clinton on his show for the entire half hour yesterday (and a very interesting interview with Tony Blair on Monday night):

http://blog.indecision2008.com/2008/09/24/bill-clinton-praises-barack-obama-on-the-daily-show/

Clinton was making pro-Barack comments, but the running joke with the audience was whether Bill or Hillary could possibly do enough for Obama to satisfy the O-Bots, even though, according to Bill, Hillary has already done more for Barry than any other Democratic contender in this election cycle and every other election cycle COMBINED ! The highlight was when Stewart asked Bill how much does Bill think that he would win by (30% ?) if he were allowed to run again (instead of Obama) against McCain. Though Bill laughed and did not answer the question, his eyes did answer the question, and he (and the studio audience) clearly believed that he could/would win again by a large margin.

He showed his ignorance when he ignored the candidate with the highest number of popular votes in the history of primary elections and instead picked someone who recieved less than 1% from the states where he was on the ballot. His ego is too big to admit he made a mistake. Bill Clinton was elected twice. He was the only Democrat to do so since FDR.

If BO and Biden were held to the same standard as either Hillary or Sarah have been, they would never have been nominated in the first place.

What we are witnessing is how the double standard enables unqualified men gain power. As a result of this need by the patriarchy to keep those women who are more qualified from competing on a level playing field, our country is on the brink of a disaster from which we may never recover.

I find it overwhelmingly painful to have to watch Hillary go on all the morning shows and explain a lucid, pragamatic, comprehensive, intelligent plan to help get us out of this mess, and then have to accept that she is not the nominee.

What a loss for our country and for what?

-Pennsylvania has 82 underground mines and 225 surface mines.

-About 58% of the electricity used in Pennsylvania is produced by coal.

-Pennsylvania produces about 7% of the country’s coal supply.

-Pennsylvania has 23 coal-fired power plants.

Good luck winning the state with just Philly and some of the ‘burbs, Senators.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, reports for duty to help Obama:

The campaign even ran an early ad in this market emphasizing Biden’s roots here. But those roots may not cure all in a region where Obama’s top campaigners, a couple of popular Lackawanna County commissioners, received hate mail during the primary just for backing the Illinois senator. More than is sometimes acknowledged, residents say, this is a region wrestling with bitterness and backwardness, the kind that Aunie Frisch, who has Chinese ancestry, sometimes finds maddening.

Gee, with all that “bitterness and backwardness,” do they cling to anything? Religion and guns, perhaps?

There was no charges ever filed, they couldn’t even find any legal charges. Which means he was falsely arrested. His SS was taken from him. Leaving him with no money to live on. Where? In Delaware. All done by the Biden’s. A clear abuse of power. You now owe me man, Biden isn’t going to exit. Obama isn’t going to get rid of him. Not unless he wants to risk having come out what will come out. Well, you know in my opinion, on 9/7 the economy wasn’t all that different from when he was promising this in the Primary, right?

It is good judgement when a situation changes and a candidate changes a stance or breaks a promise. This guy just flips and flops all over the place and on most issues there was no change in situation for it.

In a previous post, I listed 14 reasons why Biden was a poor VP choice. Reason #7 from the post:

7. Biden is gaffe prone. Already, the news media is covering past Biden gaffes. This takes away from the impact this announcement was suppose to have. Further, if Biden makes one or two gaffes during the election, then that will take Obama off message for a week or two as everyone tries to cover for them. That will be costly.

I guess I got the part about making one or two gaffes wrong. He already has over half a dozen, and we haven’t made it to the debates yet.

It’s weird because just a few days ago he was talking up the possibilities of coal technology to the United Mine Workers of America at their annual fish fry in Virginia.

“You know we have enough coal in the United States of America to meet out needs domestically for the better part of the next hundred to 200 years,” and investing the savings from McCain’s tax breaks for oil companies in …. “in coal gasification, finding out how we can burn the coal that you dig that can free us from being dependent on foreign oil countries and at the same time not ruin the environment.”

So…either 1.) Biden didn’t catch the “clean” in the clean coal question, 2.) is reverting back to the primary position that there are cleaner, more efficient routes to energy independence after being retracted on the “terrible” ad comment, or 3.) knows as well as most inteligent Americans that the more skillful liar of the two is just not cut out to be President.
lol

Comment by catherine | 2008-09-24 00:01:57

It is obvious to me that Biden is his own person and will say what he wants factual or not without consulting Obama. Why? Becuase deep down he sees himself as the one in charge- the adult and Obama is just the kid who was selected by the media and the liberal left after Oprah gave her endorsement. He really believes what he said in a debate that Obama is not qualified yet to be president while McCain is. I think Obama and Biden would make a catastrophic team. Sarah Palin has enormous respect for McCain- it shows all the time. She will support him and not be the one running the show. She knows who is the nominee and what her place is and she performs her role as asked in a complementary way while Biden is just acting the part of VP but is a loose cannon we don’t need in the White House.

Hillary 08, if not,
McCain/Palin 08

I”m I the only person who feels like they are playing with the polls. There is so much dishonesty going on these days, you don’t know what to believe, but i really don’t believe obama is ahead. I think they are just saying it, to make people believe that he’s winning, that way more people won’t abandon ship. But when you see the way people respond to palin, you have to asked yourself are we being had?

Oh, it is so easy to make a skewed poll you wouldn’t believe it. Good pollsters spend all their time trying to eliminate the skewing factors. Gallup is the best, but now they are overweighting the dems for some reason.

He either looked high or it also looked like he was listening to someone when he said “Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, that’s what I said.” Do you suppose he has a piece in his ear and he is listening to someone talk? (who is answering the questions for him).

Look at the video again.

Maybe Biden will have the courage to say,

“Obama’s really tight with Chavez and Ahmadinejad. Remember when Chavez went to Russia and Iran in 2007? Well, they were planning this week’s Russian military voyage to join the Venezuelan Navy, which was only a few days after the Russian strategic nuclear bombers made their first visit to Venezuela.

“Oh, and did you hear that Ahmadinejad said before the UN that the American Empire is about to collapse.

“Yes, Chavez and Ahmadinejad support Obama. And, yes, Obama will negotiate with both of them without preconditions.”

Ha! The MSM isn’t focusing on international relations, because that is McCain’s forte. Nope, they gotta keep the discussion on the economy, because this is where 0 really “shines!” Today NPR ran a story about peacocks on the world news, and not a thing about Iran, etc. Incredible.

I did an analysis on the Gallup poll. They break the polls down by education. They seem to give people with post graduate educations much more weight then people with high school education. This of course skews the poll toward obama by about 3 to 4 points. If tey would weigh them based on percentage they would have been even last week and McCain would be ahead by now.

Comment by bethtopaz | 2008-09-24 00:37:28

What’s the premise of giving college grads more weight - just curious.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-09-24 04:20:12

college grads seem to be Obama’s core support. If those are the main people to be polled, the poll will be in Obama’s favor even though they did not do a good random sampling. Even though it is not a true reflection of the stat’s, they want to creat an illusion that he can win thus hoping some will stay home or just get on the Kool Aid boat.

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2008-09-24 04:21:46

Check this story out. Someone needs to tell McCain to wake the hell up. The press is serious about tanking his campaign. What i find most dispicable about obama and his media minions is that the stories that they write wreak with hypocrisy. Of McCain wants to win, he needs to destroy obama, they care NOTHING about destroying him, and they dont’ care about the truth, I’m not saying McCain should lie, but it is better to use the truth and destroy his opponent, than to let obama win on bold faced lies and misrepresentation. All a man has is is reputation and his name and obama has never once in his adult life acts like he cares about either, but is so quick to smear other peoples. As little texas says ” unless you want to finish last you’ve got to kick a little.” Kick his behind McCain and when he is down you kick him again, and again, and again, and do not stop until until the moral less coward screams uncle and tell the franken truth. I’m sick of seeing obama and friends rail road people, and smear peoples reputations. I’m sick of the Hillary jokes and racist smear against bill, I”m sick of the palin jokes, and i’m sick as hell of what they are trying to do to john mccain. McCain get off you butt and destroy this fool.

Actually fewer people read Newsweek then every before. Their circulation is down 30%. They print this crap because they know that Obamabots will buy the Magazine and eat it up. If you look at Obama’s numbers it has come down quite a bit. Gallup is now only reporting him at 47%. That is a 3 point drop in 3 days. People don’t trust Obama to fix the problems. They will want someone with more experience. Any poll that dose not put Obama way above 50% is meaningless at this point. Also the moderators in the debates are expected by most people to be biased. So that will not bod well for Obama.

Comment by Ai1een | 2008-09-24 01:43:48

Did Obama care on whit about respecting Bill Clinton’s lifelong reputation as a civil rights’ activist - since his college years as a matter of fact? Bill Clinton does more for the AA Community in ONE WEEK than Barack Obama has done for the AA community in his life -

That didn’t stop Obama’s dishonorable campaign from pulling the race card to win - and we see in the General that they’re doing it again.

Comment by lark | 2008-09-24 05:58:03

The press is serious about tanking his campaign.

Everyday I’m convinced more and more. Everyday I rise hoping that they’ll change, but they get bolder and more contemptuous. Everyday I feel more afraid that they just wish the worse for America just to be able to tell the story in TV and capture the photos.

Gallup poll. One thing that pepole don’t seem to look at is that McCain has increased his support among Independence by 6 points or 32% to 38% and Obama lost 3% points from 27% to 24%. Now everybody is telling you that independents are going to decide this race. So if Obama has only 75% of the Democratic party and he trails McCain among independents by 12 points then how is he going to win PA. Where about 500 voters that voted for Hillary will vote for McCain? The polls don’t seem to reflect this. So there must be something wrong some where.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-09-24 04:15:47

We don’t declare party in Indiana but if we did I would have changed mine to Independent. Maybe if more people didn’t show allegiance to one party they would work harder to be good public servants. It seems there are far too many people who are just too lazy to do any research and so just vote by party in name.

Comment by RJ | 2008-09-24 07:32:03

Yes…I too am a registered democrat and will be voting republican in November. I was going to switch to independent but I don’t need to leave the democratic party since the democratic party has already left me.

No he wouldn’t haveetter luck because he’s half black, he would cause he’s half Kenyan. Africans don’t tend to care for American blacks, they think we are trash. Kind of like how white people see palin. Obama’s different he’s actually one of there own, however I think the reasoning is flawed. A commentator said that same thing last night on FoxNews. They said that the media and celebrity attacks on McCain/Palin are the reason for the polls tightening again following Obama’s brief lead the other day. What these “kooks” (as you called them) don’t realize is that the American people have lost their respect for anyone on T.V. We’ve seen too much of their bad behavior, and the love affair is over.

Biden spoke of President Franklin Roosevelt’s having gone on television after the stock market crash of 1929. But Roosevelt was not president in 1929, and television was not present. …

The sad thing is that a lot of the young people who are supporting Obama wouldn’t know that, because history isn’t emphasized as much in American schools today as it was when our generation attended. Geography is also a thing of past. A lot of those same young people wouldn’t be able to locate Iran or maybe even their home state on a map of the world.

Obama received more political contribution money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senators…except Chris Dodd (D, Connecticut)

http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/obama_dollars.html

1. $120,349. Other People’s Money.

Senator Obama received more political contribution money from now-collapsed mortgage banks Fannie Mae [Federal National Mortgage Association] and Freddie Mac [Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp] than all but one of the 353 other senators and congressmen who received political contributions from these two entities which were recently taken over by the federal government.

Even more dramatic is the fact that 19 years (from 1989 - 2008) of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac political contribution statistics show Senator Obama received his $120,349 despite having been in the U.S. Senate for just three years. Only Senator Chris Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut — who has been in Congress for 33 years (1975-81, House of Representatives; 1981-Present, Senate) — received more.[1]

Oh, please. We have Obama’s presidential seal and jet logo (replacing the American flag and incorporating Islamic themes), “President of the U.S” moniker on the back of his personal seat on the Obama campaign jet, free rock concerts (at home and in Germany), fake Greek temples in the rented Invesco Field, busing in supporters, indoctrination camps to teach supporters how to “get in voter’s faces and argue” with them, and now this - Obama commemorative presidential coins? No wonder his campaign won’t support down-ticket dems and is so busy raising cash - here and abroad. It’s darned expensive to keep up that faux presidential image.

Yup. Rendell, Webb, Strickland…they couldn’t say “NOT ME” and run away fast enough. His only remaining options were Claire “Squeaky” McCaskill and the guy who got .00009% of the primary vote.

Obama is the candidate of hope and change. He changes his stance on the issues and hopes you won’t notice.
