Joe Biden Rewrites History

Here’s Joe, complaining how people are taking things he says out of context.

Also, here’s Joe discussing how President Franklin Roosevelt appeared on TV to discuss solutions after the Stock Market Crash.

Heads Up at 1:58

Hey Joe, lay off the sauce will you? In 1929. at the time of the stock market crash, Hoover was President and TV wasn’t around yet.

Is that out of context enough for you?

Exactly how many empties did you leave out in the parking lot before this interview? Just wondering.

Even more frightening: Katie, how come you didn’t catch this?

I wonder if Sarah Palin had said something dumb like this how well it would have gone over? How many times would we have seen that gaffe covered by the MSM? Newsweek would have done a cover story on it. NY Times would have had everybody do an Op Ed on the stupidity of this comment. Olbermann would have faked apoplexy again–complete with the veins in his neck popping out. Matthews would have done his Dumb Broad routine. Cafferty would have put a question on his blog about it: “Is Sarah Palin Dumb?” The Late Night comedy shows would have had a blast with it. And Maher would have somehow turned it into a joke about her crotch.

And Charlie Rangel calls HER politically disabled? Let’s face it, nobody does Stupid like Joe.

Joke Biden is kind of like the embarrassing uncle you don’t want to acknowledge exists. You know what I mean?

This latest history ‘lesson’ is example # 1,031,017 of why that’s the case.

.

A repost from the previous thread, for those that may enjoy this:

Brief video I made of Sarah Palin’s whirlwind day yesterday meeting with Hamid Karzai, Alvaro Uribe
and Henry Kissinger. Also included is a brief comment on the absurd mainstream media’s pathetic
attempt to dictate to both the McCain campaign and the American people how it will cover candidate’s
conducting their affairs. The MSM blackened both of its eyes yesterday in a ridiculous display of
ineptness and childishness. Fortunately, the McCain camp rolled with the temper tantrum and sated
the baby’s whines and the adults took over the proceedings. The video is 1:40 in length:

misspeak?

Every school kid knows that Herbert Hoover was POTUS during the crash of 1929. Where do you think the term “Hoovervilles” came from?

And it’s not just this one flub. Let’s add up the sum total “misspeaks” of Senor Gaffe and his sidekick The Little Gaffer – it adds up to a stellar display of nincompoopery.

Comment by Mr. Natural | 2008-09-24 13:36:33

It’s happening now.

‘29 was precipitated by stock market speculation on very, very thin margins.

After the ‘crash, margin requirements were upped.

It took a while, but Wall Street invented a new way to speculate, and destroy itself, on very, very thin margins.

Derivatives.

( My feeling is that Biden unconsciously mapped Roosevelt’s statement into a world in which Biden was more comfortable, the present.

His inability to correctly recount history throws into grave doubt his stature as the ticket’s “elder statesman.”)

Comment by joseyJ | 2008-09-24 11:25:09

Some of Biden’s “gaffes” are intentional LIES.
For years, he’s been LYING about the way his wife and daughter were killed!

http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080904/NEWS02/809040379&template=printart

Mispeak? Bush the Elder saying Nov. 7 instead of Dec. 7 in referring to Pearl Harbor is mispeaking.

Biden is on a pace to exceed Quayle’s record and take the Gold in the Gaffe-olympics. BEFORE the actual election.

But, hey, let’s focus on how Palin would be a ‘disaster’ for America if she had to take over as President.

How much longer before we see Obama say, “That man, the, ahem, senator, is not a man I really knew, or had, ahem, day to day interactions with.” Which, for the first time, will probably be a true statement. Ha!

But then the media won’t have an uber-gaffematic to focus on, and Obama’s own growing list of gaffes may become the focus.

It’s easy to see why Joe was near the bottom of his class in both college and law school, and why, with his vaunted foreign relations “experience,” he’s been dead wrong on every major foreign policy position in the last 20 years. Interesting that the Iraqi president is having lunch with Palin today in New York. I think that after Obama, when he made his one visit to Iraq, tried to convince the Iraqis to delay negotiations of American troop withdrawals until after the election, and at the same time he was demanding immediate withdrawal at home, realized what a snake he really was. Reminds me of his bashing of free trade during the primaries while secretly assuring the Canadians that he didn’t really mean it.

Obama lives in a mansion. While some of his constituents, that he also never knew, lived in rat infested, substandard housing. Housing that Obama’s friend, Rezko, was paid millions of taxpayer dollars to improve. But Rezko forgot to do that, too.

Rezko didn’t mind taking the money that Obama helped funnel his way. Obama didn’t mind doing a real estate deal with someone like that.

But McCain and Cindy have cars! They have money! Of course Cindy personally checks on and donates money to causes for children. But she has cars!

Many of the wealthy Obama supporters have fleets of cars and multiple homes. But that’s different. Right?

Actually Sarah is winning. PBS has for one of it’s sponsors The Joyce Foundation, located in where else but Chicago.
Barack Obama served on this anti-gun (among other things) for a few years.

I had always thought that PBS was a public service (servant) and non bias. The ugly grimaces that Gwen Ifill made at the RNC and in so called round tables, about John McCain and Sarah Palin gave me pause. Then when the Joyce Foundation scrolled by as a sponsor the light bulb went off.

My contributions to PBS will cease as will my viewer ship. Another one bites the dust, they can also bite my ass.

This explanation offered by James of San Jose is just making it worse.

Bullshit.

TV was first introduced as a concept (not as a viable medium)….at the World’s Fair in 1939–ten years after the market crashed.

FDR wasn’t the fucking PRESIDENT when the market crashed, so what was he “leading?” The Happy Days Parade down Wall Street?

The incumbent President’s leadership SUCKED, but he was “leading” in his own pathetic way–he was convinced the market would rebound and kept telling people that “Prosperity is just around the corner.” It was his way of saying about a pile of shit: “There must be a pony in there somewhere.”

FDR ran against that incumbent, HOOVER, in the following election three years later, and won.

Wow, you Obots are really stupid. I don’t say that to be mean, or insulting, it’s just a basic and incontrovertible FACT.

You pride yourselves on being so computer-savvy, and you don’t even know how to use that GOOGLE to look up basic facts….facts you should have learned in your Junior High School HISTORY CLASS.

It’s actually not funny, but worrying that Biden would make such a bad gaffe. After all, he’s no spring chicken, he’s had the benefit of a good education, and it’s DISTURBING to see anyone, particularly someone of his vintage, make an INCREDIBLY DUMB mistake like that.

I am starting to worry about his health. I hope he sees a doctor and pays attention to headaches and so forth.

You can have a man that committed fraud in the primaries and caucus’s, a man who is as corrupt as they come, a man who wouldn’t have our votes as Americans represented at the convention during the so-called roll call, a man who will say and do anything to get what he wants complete and total power over the American people and then the world, a deceiver, the ultimate corrupter.
Or, you can vote for a man you know is a true patriot, a man who has morals and character, a man who didn’t cheat to get where he is, a man who loves this country completely and is competent.

yeah well! you have a point however it is lost in the democratic stampede to be more mean spirited that the repubs. who could have guessed? i for one don’t give any democrat any slack. they have been craven cave in power hungry out of touch fools for way too long. “off with their heads” so to speak as the character in the film liked to say! personally i like to think in terms of depositing their sorry selves back home and let some american loving folks take over. enough already! footnote: in quoting the character who yelled “off with their heads” i meant it in terms of removing these useless souls from positions of power and influence, biden included.

Comment by Jane | 2008-09-24 11:14:01

I agree with your point about purging the “power hungry – out of touch fools,” though I think it is more of the former than the latter that describes them. Just about everybody that had a hand in this dissastrous decade of abuse of power (look at what it has wrought – Iraq, the collapse of the financial and housing markets, etc., etc.) should be purged in my estimation. These people all need to be reminded who they are serving and that there will be consequences – kicking them the hell out. I also think we have to reclaim our party and government. It’s really out of control now and, boy, I hope we have had a major wake up call that prevents us from going back to sleep after what we have witnessed within our party and our government. It’s pretty sobering stuff, isn’t it? It’s time to be angry and fight back and take back.

I could see your point if Joe hadn’t come out right after the interview with a newly-programmed statement that refuted his previous “straigh-shooting”, defended Obama’s ad, and taken all together, makes him look like a schoolkid that just got taken to the woodshed and whipped. Definitely not the ‘character’ America is looking for.

Jane … and then he distanced himself from his comments about the computer ad when he got the 0mama open handed slap upside the head.

So sorry there gf … the point is this: Biden barely raises eye brows. Palin would be crucified. Do you see it now?

Comment by Jane | 2008-09-24 13:50:21

I give him a pass. What was he supposed to do. He spoke off the cuff, and then of course (and you knew it had to happen), he got spanked big time, but his initial reaction was right. As far as the double standard of the media, I can’t fault old Joe for that one. To me, what the media is doing is possibly the most dangerous aspect of all the abuse of power that has gone on. Once we have a media that is no longer reporting news, but constructing the news, we’re in big trouble. Think how it enabled this nation to be led into the war among other travesties to our constitution, etc. A famous quote say without a free press there is no democracy. I think we’re in big trouble and we better make sure we take that on as well.

No one here has suggested that incest is going on in the Obama or Biden families.

No one, except some banned trolls, have suggested that rape or violence toward either Obama’s or Biden’s wife or any female who dares to run for office is the answer.

Heck, comparing Michelle Obama with Aunt Esther of Sanford and Son was met with outrage.

Posters at Huff Po have suggested that incest, rape, and child molestation are all fair game accusations unless one is being overly PC. One poster said he wanted to have sex with Palin in front of his wife. When people objected, the man said his wife thought it was funny. What goes on in that household?

People here are criticizing/mocking what Joe Biden said on tape.

Not quite the same as unsubstantiated sexual allegations and jokes about rape.

Per Hillbuzz -

Electoral College Prediction Based on Most Recent Trends: McCain – 319, Soetorobama – 219

There’s a very good chance the unthinkable could happen on November 4th — with McCain taking Minnesota and Wisconsin. From what we have heard about recent internal polling, this looks to be the case. We’re hearing Ohio and Indiana are both solidly McCain at this point, with Pennsylvania also in his column. Pittsburgh will go to McCain, and SoetorObama’s win in Philadelphia will not be enough to win the state. We also believe Colorado and Virginia are pipe dreams for SoetorObama: we base this on reports we’ve received from people we know who’ve been on the ground in both states. Michigan, Iowa, and New Mexico will go to SoetorObama — though we don’t understand what’s going on in Iowa.

Also seeing some interesting, cryptic stuff in the comments sections of different blogs this morning – several posters alluding to some big bad stuff on the horizon for soetorobama. No substantiation, no details, just innuendo – but since I’m seeing it in different places I’m perking up my ears…

a neighbor was quoting some radio show last night saying they were kicking biden to the curb and putting hillary in place. i told her naw, won’t happen. the folks who back obama would rather lose than let the clintons in the door.

Comment by Johnny at Work | 2008-09-24 11:02:03

Hillary has already told Obama NO. Bill confirmed that on The View and Greta.

Bayh, Kaine, and everyone else Obama asked all said NO, before having to settle for Biden.

Encouraging, but there’s a LONG way to go yet. The undecided voters will determine who wins this thing. Still, if it stays as close as it is now, the Bradley Effect could well tip it to McCain.

Comment by Creature of Chicago | 2008-09-24 11:10:40

I’ve heard the Bradley effect metric at anywhere from -4% to -10%.

Even using the most conservative figure, it doesn’t look too promising for The One.

Enough is enough!

I think I’ll Pee Off Ms. Sensitive Susan and ask why there is no post and no thread on the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE – THE FINANCIAL RESCUE.

DEMS are Stonewalling it, because the perception is that a bad economy helps Obambi.

Meanwhile, Dumb Ass Dodd, has taken cash and cut rate mortgages. And Obambi has taken more cash from Financials than only DODD.

Obambi has taken more cash from WALL STREET than anyone.

The MSM as usual is falling all over themselves to make Obama look like a saint in this.

I suggest putting Larry’s post from yesterday back at the top.

And, Everyone shoud email Larry’s post to at least 10 people.

Uppity..
I appreciate all that you do!

I really want to see a story on the cap and trade policies of both Obama and McCain
McCain has a free market approach where companies can make changes and sell energy saving credits for a profit.
Obama wants to put industrial companies like mine out of business by charging me for all energy used and turning around and giving the money to alternative sources and individuals who can’t pay their bills.
This will end heavy industry in this country if the Obama marxist approach is implemented.

I am beginning to think that Joe Biden is really a mole or a double agent working for both campaigns. I mean that comment about Hillary being a better choice for VP was classic. Then he said the other day that a certain campaign ad about McCain was terrible. Let Biden keep it up, and he will eventually sink Obama’s ship.

Comment by Rat-a-tat-tat | 2008-09-24 12:30:06

Talk about being a heartbeat away from the presidency. Has anyone thought about what if something happened to Obama?! He’s only released one page of this medical history; that big ole honkin’ mole on his nose could be full of cancer from smoking!

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-09-24 12:42:15

I think it’s extremely intemperate to suggest, without evidence, that Biden is a drunk.

He has said he’s a teetotaler. You’d think the media would be on that assertion if it weren’t true. After all, they love scandal that’s easily understood–mistresses, illegitimate kids, boozing, drugging, that kind of stuff.

You know how people are worried about the EXPERIENCED guy on the GOP ticket? McCain is OLD, they say–he could croak.

I’m worried about the EXPERIENCED guy on the Democratic ticket–Biden has two CLIPS in his head, that are fastened around his ANEURYSMS–the two he had years ago as a young(er) man.

Biden’s mistakes could be the result of … mini-stokes? Or something else going on in his brain.

I think it’s not something to laugh about, but instead, something to WORRY ABOUT–a HEALTH issue, possibly.

In another group, a GOP supporter gleefully “reported” that the media was ignoring Joe’s “misstatement” re: History.
Well, what is the truth? … Let’s see:

[...] sorry to see how little you know:

AP, September 24, 2008
WASHINGTON — Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today’s leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt’s response to a financial crisis.
“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened,’ ” Barack Obama’s running mate recently told the “CBS Evening News.”
Except Republican Herbert Hoover was in office when the stock market crashed in October 1929.
FDR was elected three years later when voters denied Hoover a second term. The Democratic challenger appealed to the “forgotten man” by promising a “new deal” to solve the Depression era.
There also was no television at the time; TV wasn’t introduced to the public until a decade later, at the 1939 World’s Fair.

(here AP got it wrong, the 1928 Democratic Nominating Convention held in Houston, Texas, which elected Al Smith as their candidate for President was televised, and so it was the 1932 Democratic Nominating Convention held in Chicago, Illinois, where Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected as the Democratic candidate for President after four ballots. Joe Biden referred to this last Convention and Roosevelt’s acceptance speech, or perhaps to the Inaugural address, which was also carried on at TV station. The reporter who generated the AP piece didn’t do his homework and neither did you. Typical BS on the media. My note.)

Democrats usually like to remind the public that a Republican was president during the 1929 stock market crash and a Democrat — FDR — helped clean it up. During the 2004 presidential election, John Kerry’s campaign repeatedly cited Hoover as the last president until George W. Bush to oversee a loss of jobs during his time in office.
Biden was commenting on the stock market crash when he said leaders should explain the current economic crisis and how to solve it to the public.
“Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence, is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people … this is how we can fix this,” Biden said.
Pasted from

Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the only United States president to have been elected to four terms of office. FDR transformed the presidency and placed the institution at the very center of American life. During twelve years in office, Roosevelt shepherded his nation through the two greatest American crises of the twentieth century — the Great Depression and World War II — and left a legacy of political freedom and domestic security to the American people.
When Roosevelt took the oath of office on March 4, 1933, America lay in the depths of the Depression. Between 12 million and 15 million Americans, about 25 percent of the work force, were unemployed. Millions of people had lost their life’s savings. Many had lost their homes and lived in makeshift shacks. Many more stood in long lines for free soup and bread. Eleven thousand of America’s 25,000 banks had failed. Herbert Hoover, Roosevelt’s predecessor, had steered a mostly idle course through the crisis, waiting for the economy to correct itself, but the correction had not come.
Franklin Roosevelt was not the type of man who waited for events to happen. In his inaugural address, he swore to bring the nation a New Deal, and backed by a soundly Democratic Congress, he took Washington by storm. Within days of taking office, he closed the remaining banks, avoiding a run on deposits that would have finished them all. He set up a system for judging the soundness of banks and reopened the ones that were solid. He moved to put the government itself on a budget, freeing up federal dollars for relief and reform measures.

In both conventions, 1928-Houston and 1932-Chicago, and Roosevelt 1932 inaugural speech, W2XB, also branded WGY-TV for its sister radio station, carried the proceedings (General Electric, experimental station, Started transmissions in May 10, 1928, under experimental license). W2XB is currently WRGB, in the NY/Albany market.

Interesting that Joe Biden and Barack Obama seem to know what they are talking about but are being accused of lack of experience or wrong experience, whatever… While John McCain and Sarah Palin keep showing that they don’t know what they are talking about and don’t have plans, but they are exalted as the saviors for our troubles… Right, Jesus and Mary Magdalene re-incarnated to lead us into rapture…
