Obama’s Stem Cell Lies and McCain

arlen.jpgOkay, okay. My gosh! Obama lies again about McCain. Obama said McCain was against stem cell research when he is clearly not!

Here is the opening to Obama’s new radio ad:

Stem cell research could unlock cures for diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s too. But John McCain has stood in the way…he’s opposed stem cell research…Picked a running mate who’s against it… And he’s running on a platform even more extreme than George Bush’s on this vital research. John McCain doesn’t understand that medical research benefiting millions shouldn’t be held hostage by the political views of a few.

As bad as this lie is, it is disturbing that Obama’s campaign then uses the mother of a diabetic child to compound his lie:

“For Maddy and millions of others, stem cell research can unlock cures. Barack Obama understands that. But John McCain just doesn’t,” she says.

The radio ad then ends with the typical approval and credits:

SEN. BARACK OBAMA: I’m Barack Obama, candidate for president, and I approve this message.

JODY MONTGOMERY: My name is Jody Montgomery and my daughter Maddy was diagnosed with Type I Juvenile Diabetes at age three. Six times a day, I take her blood. Six times a day, I pray for a cure. Researchers are working hard to do just that. Our best hope is stem cell research, and that’s why we support Barack Obama.

This ad is an easily provable lie!

Obama, please do your homework!

From Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA):

John McCain Has Strongly Supported Stem Cell Research, Voting Against Majority Of His Own Party

McCain: “Mr. President, stem cell research has the potential to give us a better understanding of deadly diseases and spinal cord injuries affecting millions of Americans.” (Office Of Sen. John McCain, Statement By John McCain On Stem Cell Research, 4/11/07)

McCain: “I believe that we need to fund this. This is a tough issue for those of us in the pro-life community. I would remind you that these stem cells are either going to be discarded or perpetually frozen. We need to do what we can to relieve human suffering. It’s a tough issue. I support federal funding.” (John McCain, Democratic Debate, Simi Valley, CA, 5/3/07)

John McCain Twice Voted To Expand Federal Funding For Stem Cell Research. (S. 5, Senate Vote #127: Passed 63-34: R 17-32; D 44-2, 4/11/07, McCain Voted Yea; H.R. 810, Senate Vote #206: Passed 63-37: R: 19-36; D 42-1, 7/18/06, McCain Voted Yea)

In April 2007, John McCain Voted “To Reject Restrictions President Bush Has Placed On” Stem Cell Research. (S. 5, Senate Vote #127: Passed 63-34: R 17-32; D 44-2, 4/11/07; Nicole Gaouette, “Senate Strongly Rejects Bush’s Curbs On Stem-Cell Research,” Los Angeles Times, 4/12/07)

In 2004, McCain Signed Letter With 58 Other Senators To President Bush Urging Him To Ease Restrictions On Embryonic Stem Cell Research. “We write to urge you to expand the current federal policy concerning embryonic stem cell research. As you know, embryonic stem cells have the potential to be used to treat and better understand deadly and disabling diseases and conditions that affect more than 100 million Americans, such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and many others. … Mr. President, we know that you have been a strong supporter of medical research and share our commitment to curing disease and alleviating human suffering. We would very much like to work with you to modify the current embryonic stem cell policy so that it provides this area of research the greatest opportunity to lead to the treatments and cures for which we are all hoping.” (Letter From 58 Senators To President Bush To Ease Restrictions On Embryonic Stem Cell Research, 6/4/08)

From Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.):

In this letter, Sen. Feinstein writes that McCain was one Of 14 Republicans to sign the letter urging President Bush to change stem cell research policy.

“A majority of the Senate, including 14 Republicans, have sent a letter to President Bush asking him to loosen the restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research that he imposed nearly three years ago. The letter, dated Friday, echoes a similar plea signed last month by 206 members of the House. It may have special resonance during this week of remembrances for Ronald Reagan. Nancy Reagan has been increasingly outspoken in her support for stem cell research, which some experts believe could speed the development of treatments for many ailments, including Alzheimer’s disease, the brain-wasting syndrome that took Reagan’s life on Saturday.” (Rick Weiss, “58 Senators Seek Easing Of Rules For Stem Cells,” The Washington Post, 6/8/04)

I decided to check out the rest of the blogosphere and written word to see if anyone else noticed the lie and fact checked Obama’s ad. Well, I found one retort that is truly funny. The Miami Herald uses a great sports analogy in “Out of bounds: Obama falsely accuses McCain of blocking stem-cell research“:

Throw the flag on: Barack Obama.

Call: Pulling opponent by the face mask.

Here is the penalty for that face mask, Obama:

Set Obama’s credibility back 15 yards for manhandling the truth.

MCCAIN SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-09-24 14:06:25

He could send Governor Palin in as a stand-in to debate Obama. Especially as Obama has no experience, he has nothing to offer at the financial negotiations in Washington.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-09-24 15:00:26

Matt, what a great idea! Obama hasn’t got the stones to do it and McCain can use it like a club to beat him with.
McCain has much more game than anyone gives him credit and this new ’stem cell’ gaffe is just gonna hurt Barry even more.

Comment by Ani | 2008-09-24 21:40:15

McCain has clearly been a supporter of stem cell research for years — how can Obama just out and out continue to lie and claim he is the new politics?

If he is the new politics, I’ll take the old please –his politics are just so damned low, they defies description.

Please forward this to everyone you know — help get the truth out there since most of the media won’t bother.

Obama’s camp said he is not suspending the debate.

Obama has a long history of placing his personal ambition ahead of anything else. He even admitted that during his February 26 Cleveland debate with Senator Clinton.

To Obama, if the economy collapses, too bad.

Mccain is showing true leaderhip. A bold move, but the right move, from the Maverick. Let there be no doubt that John McCain puts country first!

McCain suspending campaign to deal with Wall Street crisisNEW YORK, Sept 24

(Reuters) – Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Wednesday said he will break off from campaigning to help on a Wall Street rescue plan and asked that a Friday night debate with Democrat Barack Obama be postponed.

McCain, in a statement to reporters, said he would suspend his campaign on Thursday to return to Washington and called on Obama to join him, saying he had spoken to the Democrat.

He said he did not believe a current $700 billion rescue plan would pass the U.S. Congress in its current form. He urged President George W. Bush to call for a bipartisan meeting of lawmakers to try to find an agreement.

“It’s time for both parties to come together to solve this problem,” he said.

Obama knows that the collapse of our economy will help him and the Democrats. This, of course, is the Republicans’ fault. Their staggering incompetence has made it doubly hard for McCain.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-09-24 15:10:45

WTF?
Perry,
We’ve gone past the “Blame it on Republicans” mantra here, man. It is self evident that the economy is in the toilet by dint of Congress, not any party.
If your statement is that Obama’s camp will blame the Republicans, I can agree to that, but the Dems who are in the tank for Obama are in charge of Congress. They are spending the money, taking donations from Lehman et al, and that is where the blame lies. Earmarking is like a social disease. It crosses all aisles.
But man, please inform yourself on this because the info is out there on this Mortgage shit and the only party involved is the one these banking asshats are having on our nickel.
When you chase this down a little, you’ll find that Obama’s financial advisors and leaders are almost ALL plugged into the debacle, you’ll see that the Republicans are not gonna eat that shit sandwich, Barry’s money guys will.
regards

Comment by Jules | 2008-09-24 18:23:05

Oh, Perry knows all that. He just doesn’t care about little things called facts. It’s impossible to be an Obama supporter and be concerned with facts.

Great call on this ad. I saw another one of Obama’s ads that was played in the Chicago area that was a complete lie. For the life of me I can’t remember what it was. I’m sure it will come to me later, though. Obama lies so much and we are so used to it in Illinois, that nothing surprises us.

Comment by lark | 2008-09-24 14:18:42

But later today a couple of people from truth in advertising are going to come out on the networks and say that there are no lies. That McCain has opposed stem cell research and Obama is right. I have seen it done over and over.

Text: John McCain’s Remarks on the Economic Crisis

America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.

Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration has put forward. Senator Obama has expressed his priorities and concerns. This morning, I met with a group of economic advisers to talk about the proposal on the table and the steps that we should take going forward. I have also spoken with members of Congress to hear their perspective.

It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administrations proposal. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.

Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.

I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved. I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday nights debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.

I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.

Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. Americans across our country lament the fact that partisan divisions in Washington have prevented us from addressing our national challenges. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country.

God Speed!

Comment by Lis | 2008-09-24 15:13:46

McCain is a true leader who always puts country first. Obama is nothing but a Chicago thug who thinks about what’s in it for him & Michelle. We do not need the Obama’s in the white house.

It’s getting interesting.

Obama’s team has said they aren’t suspending and they don’t want to cancel the debate.

There may be a joint statement from the two campaigns forthcoming.

That said, to get back on topic–McCain’s people should use the false ad by Obama and flip it on him–along the lines of “If Obama lies about McCain’s views on stem cells, what else does he lie about?”

I knew Hillary couldn’t fight back, because he was a fellow Dem. I am hoping the Republicans give him both barrells, because I doubt we can count on MSM to bring up his lies. According to the AP/Tribune, some advocates who will meet in Madison, Wis, this week for the 2008 World Stem Cell Summit said that recent developments — including the Republican Party’s adoption of a platform that opposes even private funding for research on surplus embryos; the nomination of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who opposes stem cell research, as the party’s vice presidential candidate; and a “less than clear” stance on McCain’s stem cell research position in recent weeks — have led them to question what McCain would do as president.

Hank -Your stem cell transplant is NOT from Embryonic stem cells nor by foetal research.

These stem cells are from the BONE MARROW . Bone marrow is entirely replacable . The stem cell technology/knowledge that you have used is from 1988 At the Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne.

One of the first recipients of tis procedure was one of The Three Tenors whose donor bone marrow was not transplanting. Jose Carreras had stem cell njections that gave him an extra time frame for the donor marrow to take hold.

There is no evidence that diseases such as Alzheimers Or Juvenile diabetes will improve by foetel stem cells.

There might be something in islet transfer though.

Stem cell scientists can be full of shit. In fact studying shit might be equally beneficial.

It just goes to show Obama is running from showing anything-I see no reason why Obama would not want to clear this up.John McCain did when Obama camp tried to say he wasn’t.McCain step up fast-It’s been how long now and even in court today Obama did not want to clear it up.

NOOBAMA EVER!
