Sen. Graham Mentions ACORN

Last night, Greta Van Susteran interviewed Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), an ardent McCain supporter. When I heard Sen. Graham refer to ACORN, I perked up. As it stands, if the bailout proposal goes through with the counter-proposals from Sen. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Del.), ACORN would receive 20% of 700 billion dollars of the bailout money.

lg.jpgCurious to learn more about Graham’s references, I also read “Kill the bailout: More ACORN funding?!,” which offers this explanation of the Dodd counter-proposal:

“Senator Graham is referring to Section 5 of the Dodd counter-proposal to the Paulson Plan. To summarize, it promises a minimum 20% of the ‘profits’ from the Treasury’s sale of assets to The Housing Trust Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund.”

And this morning I found another mention of ACORN at HotAir in this article, The Democratic ACORN bailout. Ed Morrisey had this to say:

House Republicans refused to support the Henry Paulson/Chris Dodd compromise bailout plan yesterday afternoon, even after the New York Times reported that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson got down on one knee to beg Nancy Pelosi to compromise. One of the sticking points, as Senator Lindsey Graham explained later, wasn’t a lack of begging but a poison pill that would push 20% of all profits from the bailout into the Housing Trust Fund — a boondoggle that Democrats in Congress has used to fund political-action groups like ACORN and the National Council of La Raza.

I went to PublicMarkup.org to read the counterproposal, which includes comments from citizens.

a href=”http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/25/kill-the-bailout-more-acorn-funding”>Here’s more on the development:

Just heard from several readers that Lindsay Graham told Fox that the Mother of All Bailouts includes a reported $100 million more in funding for the left-wing housing entitlement thugs and heavily tax-subsidized fraudsters at ACORN. Under the original bailout proposal, apparently, a large portion of any repayment of the $700 billion would go to Barack Obama’s good friends at ACORN with a smaller allocation to debt repayment. Readers heard him say it was 20 percent.

It is time to wake up people. ACORN has already received money from the housing bill Bush signed into law. Now they are set to receive 20% of the management and money of the bailout bill. Along with all of that money, they are trying to affect the federal elections.

There will be more on ACORN and ACORN Housing Corporation as the day rolls on!

Lindsay Graham is mentioning ACORN quite deliberately, which is a good clear sign that McCain is apprised of the fraud and NObama’s connections to it. Graham has been one of Mac’s closest sidekicks, along with Lieberman, during his campaign.

This is Off Topic:

Today I twice came across the stement that BO is a “former Law Professor”.

I thought that this was one of his exaggerations and he was a tutor or so.

First I read it on Dick Morris comment about McCains brilliant move.
Now I heard it on Fox News Election HQ in an interview from the host.

I mean, did he get a promotion?
Both sources are not really in bed with him.

Comment by ipotter | 2008-09-26 17:08:13

Seems University of Chicago uses the term professor very loosly. His official title seems to be Senior Lecturer, but you can judge for yourself:

From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School’s Senior Lecturers has high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.

Try to find out anything about ACORN at Wikipedia. The article is written by a rep of ACORN and anything about the indictments, voter fraud, and general controversy has been systematically deleted. And there’s intentionally nothing about the controversy with the bail-out proposal. Not that I am surprised: Obamacrats control Wikipedia. This has been known for a long time. (In 24 hours they’d succeeded in defacing Sarah Palin’s article, replacing her photo with a montage of Hulk Hogan, and perhaps 20 times attempted to remove the lock so they could smear her and spread disinformation. Stinks David Axelrod all the way. Sarah’s talk page has been censored from nearly 700 KB to 187 KB today. It’s not worth looking at. But looking at ACORN’s page? Where will people go to find information about these crooks? It’s like Stalin’s version of history over at the Obama controlled Wikipedia.

Comment by Kat5 | 2008-09-26 17:04:03

Just google “ACORN corruption”, zorro. That’ll tell anyone about all they need to know. (354,000 matches)

Comment by ipotter | 2008-09-26 17:24:27

You’re absolutely correct. Pretty scary. Here are a few links for info, but you have to do research on your own as censorship has become the norm:

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008809140383
http://www.capitalresearch.org/blog/?p=440
http://rottenacorn.com/activityMap.html
many more…

The list can go on and on. The Obama campaign paid Acorn over $800,000 in the primaries and the money was generally recorded as “stage lighting and sound” which is not exactly true. It is currently under investigation, but information available seems to indicate that the money was to bus people in to caucuses from out of state to disrupt the process and throw the election for Obama.

the problem for obama when the entire MSM is covering for him that is that it prevents his campaign from seeing how the opponents are countering him.

graham knew exactly what he was doing last night when he included the ACORN line. he repeated it again this morning. they are manuevering this so that no matter how this flies, McCain comes out as the winner. McCain came in and blew up a deal that would include another earmark to ACORN, an outfit of community organizers associated with Obama that has been convicted for voter fraud. if the deal is amended to include the loan provision, he comes out as the winner.

Per Wikipedia:

* In Ohio in 2004, four ACORN employees were indicted by a federal grand jury for submitting false voter registration forms.[16][17]
* In January 2005 two Colorado ACORN workers were sentenced to community service for submitting false voter registrations.[18] ACORN’s regional director said, “we find it abhorrent and do everything we can to prevent it from happening.”[19]
* On November 1, 2006, four part time ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City, Missouri for voter registration fraud. Prosecutors said the indictments are part of a national investigation.[20] ACORN said in a press release that it is in part responsible in these individuals being caught, has fired them, and has cooperated and publicly supported efforts to look into the validity of the allegations.[21]
* ACORN was investigated in 2006 for submitting false voter registrations in St. Louis, Missouri. 1,492 fraudulent voter registrations were identified.[22][23]
* In 2007, five Washington state ACORN workers were sentenced to jail time.[24] ACORN agreed to pay King County $25 000 for its investigative costs and acknowledged that the national organization could be subject to criminal prosecution if fraud occurs again. According to King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, the misconduct was done “as an easy way to get paid [by ACORN], not as an attempt to influence the outcome of elections.”[25][26]
* In 2008, the Michigan Secretary of State office told the Detroit Free Press that ACORN had been submitting a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications to vote.[27]

* On September 17 2008, the Bernalillo County clerk in New Mexico notified prosecutors that the office had received fraudulent registration cards.[28]

Also, rememeber that the great majority of undecided voters out there are middle-class and lower-middle class whites …. two groups with which Barack Obama did not do at all well in the Democratic primaries.

Believe me, I felt that way too the last 2 days.

But I’m releasing it. Why? Because if the worst happens and this fraud becomes president, then we really have to get busy on every front. Believe it or not, the thought of doing that is picking up my spirits. I just stumbled on a blog about the dismal ratings of last nights network tv shows and the comments, much to my surprise and delight, echoed what I’ve been feeling. People are turning off their tvs, are fed up with Hollywoods celebrities mouthing off. It made me realize:

I am not alone!

And neither are you.

It makes me feel great that I won’t be voting for Chuck Schumer when he’s up for re-election and my advice to all is to make sure that you vote these conmen out of office when you have the opportunity. And volunteer and work against them. Chris Dodd needs to go, people of CT.

It’s time to clean house.

So I’m not concentrating anymore on the end result on Nov 4. 0bama wants to be president, so all I have to say to him is this adage:

“There are more tears in heaven for answered prayers than unanswered ones.”

Be careful what you wish for.

Thanks NancyA for the post! One possible correction: I think it’s 20% of “what would go to [national] debt retirement” and perhaps not 20% of the $700 billion dollars. I don’t mean to mitigate the concern that that dirty communist organization would get a large sum of money (it is optimal that they get no taxpayer money!), but I can’t imagine that much money going to the slimeballs.

Comment by mel | 2008-09-26 17:16:35

Acorn doesn’t get the $140 Billion, it is for their use for low income earners to buy, ACORN gets a commission of 2% on that money, so it is $2.8 billion for ACORN pockets.

Comment by mel | 2008-09-26 17:08:55

ACORN will go bust if they do not have the money from mortgages and anyone think Obama will have his main thugs go broke are fooling themselves.

Comment by Zorro Astor | 2008-09-26 17:33:13

Agreed. It doesn’t matter how much money goes directly to ACORN thugs - it matters how much money goes to these subversive elements. That that is definitely $140 billion or 20%.

Comment by Dan | 2008-09-26 17:38:25

No, it isn’t. The proposal in the original plan was to have 20% of the PROFITS that the government might make from selling off all these toxic mortgages it’s about to buy go into a “Housing Trust Fund” that has been used to fund groups like ACORN in the past.

So, unless the government can ultimately realize a profit of $700 billion on the sale of all these toxic mortgages, the amount that would be available to ACORN under the original bill won’t be $120 billion.

The articles that have appeared here today before this one have simply been wrong and, in my opinion, shoddily researched.

But it was still an outrageous proposal, no matter the amount. To direct even $1 of taxpayer money to something like ACORN ought to be a crime.

WASHINGTON — There is scant public support for President Bush’s $700 billion federal rescue plan for the U.S. financial industry and little expectation it would solve the crisis that has roiled the markets and hobbled some of the country’s largest investment firms, according to a poll released Friday.

Just 30 percent of Americans say they support Bush’s package, according to an Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll released as White House and congressional leaders struggled to rescue the plan after House Republicans rebelled against it. Despite the president’s pleas that the package is urgently needed to prevent an economic meltdown, 45 percent say they oppose Bush’s proposal while 25 percent said they are undecided.

Underscoring the hesitancy members of Congress have shown to approve the plan quickly, opposition was solid across party lines. Fewer than four in 10 Republicans, three in 10 Democrats and one in 10 independents said they support the package.

Fifty-seven percent said they think the bailout is needed to prevent a serious recession. Even so, only 35 percent said they think the plan would resolve the financial crisis, with doubters in the majority in both parties and among independents.

The poll found a standoff over which presidential candidate would do better handling the financial crisis, with about a third opting for John McCain and about the same number preferring Barack Obama.

So, the Dow ended the day up, the polls show that people are in no rush to see this plan shoved down their throats, yet the ‘leaders’ in Congress, Hank Paulson (former Democrat) and the national media outlets want us to believe that Senator McCain went to Washington and messed up a beautiful deal by “injecting Presidential politics.” Really? Nevermind the fact, of having a station in the tank for the President with quid pro quo from Obama.

Remember liberals complaining about the relationship between Fox and Bush?

Playing dumb isn’t attractive.

CNN caught giving Obama the questions for the debate. That is why he took 3 days off of work to prepare.

Pay attention to how many uh’s and um’s come out of Obama. If they aren’t in typical gigantic numbers, he was given the questions in advance and the answers were well rehearsed.

Comment by NObailout NObama | 2008-09-26 18:12:46

The format was to allow for McCain and NObama to ask each other questions, I believe.
That’s where the choked back uh uh uh uh’s will be. NObama tried hard to choke the uh uh uhs back during his appearance on Fox yesterday.
Didn’t quite pull it off.

Those Obama Democrats are real cheaters. They are happy spending and giving taxpayers money away to thugs. From one thug to another.

That is right Reid is on record asking MCcain for direction and then changed his position for political reasons. Talking about Flip Flops.

Why aren’t my posts showing up?

Comment by Dan | 2008-09-26 17:26:45

So as I suspected last night, Sen. Graham mis-spoke when he claimed that 20% of the bailout package was to be directed to ACORN.

Turns out that it’s only 20% of the profits that might be earned by the government in the future from selling off these mortgages that it’s preparing to buy which the Democrats wanted to put into a so-called “Housing Trust Fund” that has funded groups like ACORN in the past.

It’s still an outrageous proposal and the Republicans were quite right to rebel against it, but it’s obviously nowhere near the $120 billion that some here and elsewhere were claiming.

Comment by mel | 2008-09-26 17:29:45

ACORN puts the $140 billion into mortgages of people who will default, thus the present problems, so you are ok with pissing away $140 billion while ACORN pockets billions?

Comment by Dan | 2008-09-26 17:44:28

Try reading my post first, Mel. Where did I say that I was OK with anything about ACORN?

What I said was that the original statement by Sen. Graham was in error. The baliout plan does not call for $120 billion to go directly to ACORN.

Fishman - Will a Lynch Mob Get Him?

Fox News: WaMu Gives New CEO Mega Payout as Bank Fails

Nice work - if you can get fired from it.

That’s just what one Alan H. Fishman might have thought when he woke up Friday morning.

Fishman was the new chief executive officer for Washingon Mutual - WaMu - the nation’s largest savings and loan, which was taken over Thursday night by federal bank regulators and quickly dumped in a fire sale to JPMorgan Chase for the Wal-Mart-like price of $1.9 billion.

But don’t cry for Fishman, who reportedly was sky-high - literally - last night, on a flight from New York to Seattle, when WaMu collapsed. Even though he’s only been on the job for less than three weeks, he’s bailing out with parachute worth close to $20 million, according to an executive compensation analysis conducted for the New York Times by James F. Reda Associates.

That’s right, $20 million for 17 days on the job … and his company failed.

Fishman, who formerly was chairman of Meridian Capital Group, apparently was much coveted by WaMu, which was counting on him to lead the failing thrift out of mortgage troubles that pushed the bank to a $3.3 billion second-quarter loss.

According to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, WaMu threw a $7.5 million bonus at Fishman when it hired him on Sept. 8, and guaranteed him an immediate cash severence of $11.6 million - both of which he gets to keep.

He also was eligible for annual bonuses of up to 365 percent of his annual base pay - set at $1 million - to go with millions of shares of company stock.

Fishman does lose out on a big bonus that would have kicked in had he remained on the job through 2009.

Documents show WaMu was going to pay their new boss $8 million to simply not screw up and get fired - all negotiated as the Seattle-based banking giant’s loses climbed to an estimated $20 billion.

How long are the American people going to put up with this shyt. How deep is the complacent tolerance among the populace for Madison Avenue, Wall Street, Hollywood, and sports figures of Am. making millions while most of the population struggles by to keep a home, eat decently, have leisure time, get deserved health care, and a meaningful education.

Just on Fox. BO intends to launch violent attacks against McCain at the beginning of the debate. They are supposedly filled with rank vitriol. He hopes to anger McCain and keep him on defense. DISGUSTING OBAMA!!!!!! I HATE HIM!!!!!!

Comment by Firefly | 2008-09-26 17:44:28

Reporter on Fox says McCain camp has been expecting this and preparing for it for weeks. 0bama’s plan is to piss McCain off but McCain will not take the bait - and will not respond to vitriolic attacks.

That’s not to say that McCain won’t take his shots - he definitely will - but he’ll pick ‘em.

Mostly McCain will be presidential and knowledgeable, calm and affable - he’ll be himself, but his best self.

Let me say this, I want the McCain team negotiating for us. They are brilliant.

1. After Obama’s “excellent summer vacation” overseas, they ran the paris hilton celebrity ad and changed the discussion from Obama’s meetings with foreign leaders to his empty notoriety and the projectory of the campaign.

2. After Obama’s Greek dome acceptance speech, he named Palin and took the air out of Obama’s elevation.

3. As the economy began to tank, wiht Obama beginning to use the teleprompter at campaign stops and and therefore sounding much more intelligent and coherent than he usually sounds on the stomp, McCain went to Washington to do his job and now the fight is between Pelosi, Reid, Dodd and Barney Frank (who has just morphed into a crochety scold) vs McCain.

McCain is 3 for 3 and batting 1000.

andrew what is funny is they have been trying this tactic all along.
McCain was a pow for 5 years. I am not sure obama can rile him.
Not to mention it will make obama seem shallow and petty. Being president is not about one liners and personal shots.
His base will love it but america will find it off-putting.
Plus all night McCain should just keep saying the obama/bush bail out is going to mortage our kids future.
The press is disconnected with reality. Mac has the upper hand and obama and his camp are totally off balance.
And when they release a presser saying Obama is going to attack and has one-liners it shows how off they are.

SLAUGHTER THE PIGS FATTENED WITH ACORNs!!!!!

Why, oh why, are people and the MSM not talking about this sickening twist?

THE ECONOMY IS IN A CRISIS AND THE DEMOCRATS ARE PORKING UP A RESCUE BILL WITH EARMARKS TO A-C-O-R-N (THE VOTER FRAUD OUTFIT).

NO WONDER THE GOP IS HOLDING FIRM. PASS this to every media outfit you know so that maybe the truth will leak out about why McCain can not agree to such a mess!!!

http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/26/the-democratic-acorn-bailout/

(excerpt:)

Comment by Ferd McBerfle | 2008-09-26 18:20:33

ACORN–As the name implies, it is a seedy organization, as a minimum.

Comment by Sassy | 2008-09-26 18:46:31

None of my money for ACORN!
I am not putting up with a shake-down from a bunch of low-life thugs.
And what’s the deal with BO and Senator Coburn?
The “O” is the most liberal guy in the Senate, and Coburn would ration toilet paper in the john, he’s so cheap!

Comment by DaddysDarlin | 2008-09-26 18:48:24

Why should anyone profit from the bail out? There should be no profits as far as I am concerned.
ACORN, how is it they even are allowed to collect money from the American people? Can anyone with the right friends get their names on the list? I could use a few billion dollars!
McCain is showing his leadership skills by not allowing this bail out to proceed.
I wish him well in the debate tonight, in fact I want him to kick Obama’s Ass!!!

Comment by tek | 2008-09-26 18:51:00

Just unbelievable that the Obots would try to scam Americans this way. We better all hope he doesn’t gt in the WH. I believe these Obama Democrats are more corrupt than the neocons, if that’s even possible.

you can add Valerie Jarrett, Vince Lane, Alison Davis and other assorted
Chicago housing development pals to potential beneficiaries of this pot.the community in Chicago is very savy on housing development and Obama
wants to take care of his own.
