Obama joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism. A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

In this 110th congress, Obama has sponsored 70 Bills and co-sponsored 404 bills of which 8 have passed vs. John Mccain who has sponsored only 22 bills and co-sponsored 133 of which 7 have passed.

Obama helped pass a sweeping law that banned most gifts from lobbyists and personal use of campaign funds by state legislators.

During his first years as a state senator, Obama was a co-sponsor of a bill which re-structured the Illinois welfare program into the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. He was also involved in various pieces of legislation which established a $100 million Earned Income Tax Credit for working families, increased child care subsidies for low-income families, and required advance notice before mass layoffs and plant closings.

He sponsored successful efforts to expand children’s health care, create a plan to provide equal health care access for all Illinois residents, and create a “Hospital Report Card” system, and worker’s rights laws that protected whistleblowers, domestic violence victims, equal pay for women, and overtime pay. His most public accomplishment was a bill requiring police to videotape interrogations and confessions in potential death penalty cases. Obama was willing to listen to Republicans and police organizations and negotiate compromises to get the law passed. That helped him develop a reputation as a pragmatist able to work with various sides of an issue. Obama also led the passage of a law to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they stopped.

Based on his amazing accomplishments and ability to work across the isle in a bi-partisan and pragmattic fashion, I would give him a VERY HIGH RATING as a legislator for the people.

Is it more likely that Ifill moderating with a bias would help book sales, or more likely it would hurt book sales?

It seems to me that to moderate the debate with a bias would amount to a nuclear option for Ifill. It would discredit her 1st book, her future career as an author, her position on the Lehrer news hour, and her job as host of Washington Journal, all with one self-directed torpedo.

While she might have better disclosed her book deal, I seriously doubt she’s willing to risk un-employment.

The DNC timed the convention to coincide with the anniversary of MLK’s speech.

Hillary would have been public enemy #1 if she had taken the nomination, which was rightfully hers. I hate Obama’s guts.

The thing that makes me cringe the most is she had the obligation to disclose this bias right up front.

She and PBS did not draw attention to this fact.

That said, Ifill should be removed and her prepared questions should be discarded.
