Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington with Johnny Mac and Why Obama/Biden Leave Me Cold

Last night Sarah Palin showed she could hold her own with a 36-year veteran of the Senate. I’m sure she was a bit nervous – who wouldn’t be – after only five weeks on the national stage. The pressure for her to hit it out of the park must have been excruciating. But she delivered.

Several news commentators pointed out they knew she had the debate in hand when she asked Gwen Ifill if “we could just return to Afghanistan” for a moment. If she was willing to tackle Biden on foreign policy, his supposed strong suit, I’d say the lady’s got a set of brass ones. Good for her. It was widely observed that she kept the veteran Senator on the defensive much of the night and even got under his skin a few times.

Yes, her answers could have been more specific on a couple of topics and she could have attacked Biden more, but then again what points Biden gained for specificity he more than lost because a number of his ‘specifics’ were lies.

Primarily, Biden mischaracterized McCain’s position on the war and surge. McCain has been proven right on the surge, which even Obama has had to admit. Biden denied that Obama said he would meet with Ahmedinajad without preconditions. Obama did famously and naively say this and was attacked for doing so by Biden. He also made false statements about McCain’s health care tax credit, which would more than offset any tax hike. He lied that McCain wanted less regulation when in fact it was John McCain years ago calling for more regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. News commentators cited many more.

I tried to get past the lies Biden told and simply review what appeals to me about McCain/Palin that Obama/Biden just haven’t got. The answer is simple:

Humility.
Gratitude.
Character.

Humility and dignity are not mutually exclusive. It is commendable to both understand the gravitas of the job and express gratitude to the American people for having the deep faith to bestow their ultimate trust upon two people. That is something clearly not lost on John McCain and Sarah Palin. I feel a confidence from them, without arrogance or hubris.

Why is this so important? We already had eight years of an arrogant blockhead in the White House, who thought he was God’s chosen one. Regardless of party, we don’t need another in there with the same ‘I am the Chosen’ attitude.

Most telling, Biden kept harping on the fact that McCain intended to continue Bush’s policies. This is the most egregious falsehood. Obama, in saying he wants to continue Blackwater and have a private security force, touting Bush’s faith based initiatives, reneging on FISA, backpedaling on ‘don’t ask don’t tell, and most recently, illegally trying to squelch dissent in Missouri, to name a few, makes him more like Bush3 than anyone.

I had occasion to be confronted by four sexists yesterday, three males and one female. The words they had for Palin were disgusting. The more the snobs out there choose to insult and rip into her, the more we are reminded of the horrid treatment Senator Clinton received. If you think that is driving anyone into Obama’s arms, you are sadly mistaken.

Whether the lefty elites like it or not, Governor Palin is a feminist, balancing career, marriage and family. Her choices may not be yours, but a woman’s right to choose means exactly that. Period. As Lou Dobbs has pointed out many times of late, Governor Palin lives her principles.

So does McCain. It becomes a little harder to argue with his Iraq policy going forward when both he and Palin have sons actively serving in the military. These are not neo cons or chicken-hawks. John McCain the POW, more than anyone, knows the cost of war. It is also hard to argue with the character of a man who has taken huge risks politically in the name of his principles — something Senator Obama has never done.

Interesting for a conservative, McCain has also stood by openly gay politicians who are friends over the years. Can you imagine Obama doing this?

Both McCain and Palin have repeatedly demonstrated not only willingness, but a track record of working across the aisle, a much needed quality since they will most likely be working with a Democratic congress. From a place of dignity and humility, a President can engage and be engaged by others. This bespeaks a willingness to listen and respect the views of colleagues without belittling the ways of those who are ‘other’ than you.

Palin made very clear last night, and has the record as Governor to back this up, that while she may not agree with certain views, she will respect the law of the land and not legislate or veto away the rights of others.

As Stephen Covey famously wrote, “seek first to understand, then to be understood.” Unfortunately, Senator Obama showed he is sorely lacking in such skills when he made his infamous “bitter voter” comments to his rich San Francisco campaign contributors.

I always wondered why Gore or Kerry didn’t connect with people at their debates and I realized it is in a nutshell why so many Democrats lose – the condescension factor: talking with their noses in the air.

Obama shares this with his unsuccessful predecessor-candidates. No matter what nonsense Donna Brazile wants to spew about the new Democratic Party being more ‘urbane’ and not needing rural voters to win, that is a crock. And everyone knows it. If you can’t speak to the heartland, you ain’t gettin’ to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

At the debate last night, Sarah Palin’s warmth and down to earth connection to the American people was undeniable.

I’d like someone who has lived a little in the trenches, who understands sacrifice and may have a clue as to what the average woman or man on the street is going through at this point in time. Despite their Ivy League educations, this is something I always appreciated about the Clintons – and surely why the Democratic elite always held them in contempt. They have the ability to reach out to the working class voter.

It has long been my experience that those who look at me like a bug under a glass have little understanding of my needs or the urgency of answering them.

It may also explain why Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are the only two Democrats to have won the White House in the last 40 years – although, unlike Carter, Clinton was a hugely successful President.

In addition to Joe Biden’s truth-lapses – a habit he shares in common with his #1, Barack Obama – what annoyed me about Biden was his flashing that enormous mouth of blistering white teeth to Gwen Ifill when Sarah started to speak. It struck me as a bit condescending – “oh look what the little girl is saying now”.

In recalling Scranton, Wilmington and Home Depot, Biden was working a little too hard to sound like a man of the people, which his slightly plastic appearance due to a seeming eyelift and a trip to “BriteSmile” seemed to belie. That coupled with his ultimate beltway insider status may make people a little less trusting of his let’s bang on the facts message (especially when those “facts” will easily be debunked all over the net and on the campaign trail).

Then again, Obama has held so many flip flopping positions on the issues that anything Biden said last night could have been considered true at some point. The question is – what is true now? We don’t know. He could fire any dart at the dartboard and hit a bull’s eye because the waffling has been endless.

I have no real idea of what Obama would ACTUALLY do in the White House. Do you?

The UK Telegraph today revealed a letter from British Ambassador to the U.S., Sir Nigel Sheinwald to Prime Minister Gordon Brown assessing Senator Obama:

Barack Obama is a “decidedly liberal” senator “who was finding his feet, and then got diverted by his presidential ambitions”…

No kidding. I’d have preferred he “find his feet” first but ambition is all, apparently – ready or not.

Mr. Obama “can seem to sit on the fence, assiduously balancing pros and cons”, Sir Nigel wrote, and “does betray a highly educated and upper middle class mindset”. Charges of elitism “are not entirely unfair” and he is “maybe aloof, insensitive” at times.

Insensitive? Yes, the bug under the glass thing again. Sitting on the fence? That reminds me of Obama’s 130 ‘present’ votes in the State Legislature. Well, there is no voting ‘present’ in the White House.

“He can talk too dispassionately for a national campaign about issues which touch people personally, e.g. his notorious San Francisco comments [in April] about small-town Pennsylvanians ‘clinging’ to guns and religion.”

The stings Senator Obama delivered to many groups who chose not to vote for him in the primaries are not likely to be forgotten at the polls either.

In contrast, John McCain is respectful in his interviews and at every speaking engagement. I still remember a town hall he held months ago when a hostile man questioned him about his positions on Iraq. Senator McCain openly answered the question and then asked if the man wanted to follow up. He did, and John did. Then John asked again – would you like to follow up? They must have gone back and forth five times until the man’s questions were answered to his satisfaction and he sat down. Courage, respect, humility, decency.

Contrast this with a man who questioned Obama at a campaign rally. Obama’s response was, ‘if you don’t like my answer, get another candidate or run for office yourself.’

When gut check time arrives at the polls on November 4th, it will be interesting to see whether the American people feel safer with two candidates who talk to them, rather than at them or over them with noses in the air.

Whether I agree with John McCain and Sarah Palin on all the issues has become less important to me than the fact that I know where they stand and have a pretty good idea of how they would govern in the White House: with determination, humility and openness.

The bobbing and weaving of the Obama/Biden camp leaves me uncertain. What good is someone who agrees me, only to meet with my polar opposite the next day and pretend agreement with them, too?

We all know that McCain/Palin are not my ideal choices. But Hillary is no longer in the race so my hope for a Clinton/Clark ticket is gone for the moment. I do not trust anything that comes out of the Obama campaign, as their positions have changed with the prevailing wind.

Since the Democratic Party is neck deep in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac scandal. And since Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, as our Party leaders, have shown they are unscrupulous enough to use the current economic suffering of American citizens for political gain, I can no longer vote party. I have to vote character.

And on that score, there is little room for doubt.

Ani,

Thanks for summing up what so many are concluding without the help of the media. Even with the tremendous positive spin the media hands over to Obama, many are not being moved.

We should all know by now that the media sold us GWB, the Iraq war, trashed Hillary, and now is trying to sell us Obama. Do we really want the corporations behind media to run the country?

No way, no how, NOBAMA!

I don’t want to hear any more soring rhetoric from the O’Waffler. Wake up people. The man stands for nothing. He is as arrogant as George W. Bush and, like George, will let his herd of advisors do what is in their interests, not ours.

I was thinking while listening to the debate, and later watching it last night, what Biden has up his sleeves for us. He’s a lousy debater, something I saw during the primary, one of the many reasons I didn’t support him. Biden has a tendancy when he’s telling a lie to try to look in the camera, and speak with sincerity. Only, people who are lying, and trying to sound sincere, have a telltale waver in their voices, and Biden does this A LOT.

Great article. McCain was always our plan B, but Gov. Palin has just sweetened the pot by a whole lot! Sen. McCain has the wisdom of his age, and while watching him, I am more and more impressed. Hearing his story for the first time, I’m perfectly happy voting for him, and for Gov. Palin.

Yes - I love this diary!

Humility, gratitude, character - unlike Oblahma who projects himself as entitled to be president - because “it’s time” to elect a Black man. Even one in an Empty Suit, chosen by the Dem leadership to go along with a primary scam and a rigged nomination.

Obama’s low character is reflected in his willingness to continue allowing the media and Obamabots to smear the Clintons as racists!
Only a shell of a man with no soul and no heart would do that.

Comment by Touchet | 2008-10-03 17:58:44

Dude the ad features the actuall committee set up to deal with the regulations that allows the mortgage crisis–the deregulation of loans to people who could not afford them.

By chance, this happened to be a mostly black caucus dealing with minority issues, which at the time, it was assumed that most lower income people were minorities.

So really the creation of the caucus was the racial discrimination. The democrats put together that caucus, not the republicans. Had it been white people the same add would have occured.

This is a pathetic attempt at the Obama camp to use racial politics and distractions again to explain away an excuse as to why obama supported a bail out to corporate america when he toted a regime of change from that type of behavior. Plain and simple.

Obama and his followers like you denigrate real racism by charging ‘racism’ when ever anyone criticizes the one, or points out differences, or in this case calls out corruption that a majority of Americans have to pay for while those who broke laws walk away with millions. That is how politics is played. Politics is a full body contact sport. If you can’t stand the heat of the kitchen get out.

Your article is great/ The ‘condescension factor’ is dead on. Please write an article before Tuesday’s debate with what McCain nneds to do. I’m so sick of hearing that BO has the advantage in a debate on the economy. He hasn’t done crap for the poor or the working classes or the middle classes except insult them. His only claim to fame is dragging people off the street registering them to vote with phony addresses as a community organizer. Chicago has the worst corruption in the areas of education, housing and taxes. The “bitter” comments need to be broadcast everywhere now that we’re at the end of the campaign–people have forgotten what contempt and disgust he has for the Americans trying to put food on the table.

Comment by Goblintrain | 2008-10-03 18:15:50

Like i said earlier, i think that now, if he fleshes it out & breathes life into it, McCain actually has an advantage on the economy.

Why? Because McCain’s plan is more fiscally conservative! Even before the market meltdown, there was lots of questions about where this funding for Obamas spending projects was coming from. NOW… they are simply pie in the sky! Absolutely unrealistic, unobtainable in this environment! Obama no longer has a functional economic plan, assuming that he ever did even before this mess!

McCain’s plan however, can still operate virtually unchanged. It may not have the bells & whistles that make Obamatron butt-holes pucker, but it has the spartan sensibility that the current environment demands. Simultaneously cut spending drastically, AND cut business taxes so that exported jobs can come back home & employ Americans instead of foreigners.

ASIDE: If we fail to create a functional environment for domestic business, it will lead to another increase in illegal labor, further compromising our border security, government subsidy claims, & tax revenues.

Problem here is 2fold though. First, no matter how sensible a bare bones economic plan may be, they just aren’t pretty. It is a challenge to package it pretty. Second, there is still a Democrat majority in both houses run by letist extremists that it would need to pass. They will not just rubber stamp any economic package from a Republican administration, no matter how moderate John McCain may be.

That said, never let the obstacles stop you from doing it! Make it happen

PALIN: I do take issue with some of the principle there with that redistribution of wealth principle that seems to be espoused by you. But when you talk about Barack’s plan to tax increase affecting only those making $250,000 a year or more, you’re forgetting millions of small businesses that are going to fit into that category. So they’re going to be the ones paying higher taxes thus resulting in fewer jobs being created and less productivity.

IFILL: Thank you, governor. Senator?

BIDEN:

Number two fact, 95 percent of the small businesses in America, their owners make less than $250,000 a year. They would not get one single solitary penny increase in taxes, those small businesses.

From salary.com:

Waltham, Mass.-based Salary.com (NASDAQ:SLRY) said its 2007 Small Business Executive Compensation Survey found the national median salary for a small business CEO is $233,500.

[I'd post a link but NQ keeps deleting my posts with links.]

The median salary for small biz is 233,000. Median means half of small biz make below 233,500 and half make above 233,000. So when obiden said “Number two fact, 95 percent of the small businesses in America, their owners make less than $250,000 a year” that was just an obiden fact as opposed to a real fact.

obiden did lie. He has no clue what 95% of small biz owners make so he just made something up. He lied.

Yes I watched some elite media pundits talking about how appalling it is that Gov Palin just recently got her passport. Someone pointed out that only about 1/4 of Americans have passports. But I thought what snobs they were. They really thought they were better than people without passports because it meant they were well travelled. I bet most of their travel and passport cost was reimbursed by their employers.

And when I thought about it further and put myself in Sarah’s place when has she and her family had time to do much travelling? She’s been one busy lady with all her accomplishments and her big family to raise with hubby Todd. And maybe they couldn’t afford to travel out of country even. That doesn’t make her less accomplished or less intelligent.

Comment by Johnny at Work | 2008-10-03 17:36:35

Palin has done a hell of a lot more for Alaska and the US without a Passport, than those jerkballs will erver do with their globetrotting.

Other than his childhood forays, Obama’s 1st big trip out-of-country was his unproductive “Hope-a-Palooza Tour” this summer.

The media’s hypocrisy is rancid!

Comment by Ani | 2008-10-03 19:22:35

Maggie,

Thank you so much for your comment. I am sick and tired of elitist attitudes as well. If she’d had a passport all her life they probably would have accused her of being an international spy or something else utterly ridiculous — or being unpatriotic. They did this will Hillary, too. Keep moving the goal line. No answer is ever the correct one.

Sarah did an interview today wherein she said she e-mailed John McCain and said she still wanted to play for MI — she and her hubby were eager to get into the state and shake hands with workers at the plants and so forth. Her exuberance was very engaging. Is it your feeling that they really have no shot in MI? I know it is a pretty reliable blue staet, however.

Still, I am shocked that after the way Obama treated the people of your state, anyone there would dream of voting for this a man who blocked revotes and stole delegates that did not belong to him.

Obama/Biden used theri Sentae “leadership role” to lead Democratic Sheep to the slaughter on the bailout bill.

No doubt Obama got high praise from the Republicans who finaced his campaign to rub out Hillary, and Biden’s banker friends who will do NOTHING for working Americans.

They have convinced me they will NOT listen to the people, unless they are voted down in November.

At this point, smart voters should start visiting with the other side of the aisle, since we get NO respect from Obama.

I’ve gotta get in there and make sure my votes for McCain/Palin count, but other than that, I might just leave the rest of the elected office portions of the ballot blank and vote only for the initiatives that appear on the ballot.

So I guess my vote for Gov. goes to Rossi, Godess forgive me! Darcy Burner was supposedly neutral throughout the primaries but as soon as Hillary suspended she sent out some mailers with the usual Obama is the one crap, so I will vote for Reichart, who voted against the bailout twice, bonus!

I also plan to vote against Obama and for McCain/Palin.

Ani,

Well said. Thank you. Humility, gratitude and character are what are important.
I think a sense of basic reality, sorely missing in the House Speaker and Majority leader as well as the Democratic nominees, is also important. Sarah Palin made a comment to a reporter that she gave up the jet so she can fly on commercial airlines and meet with both citizens and visitors to Alaska. That’s a far distance from the Speaker who demanded and got a 757 to fly cross country as the cost of some $90K one way.

Comment by KC | 2008-10-03 17:46:59

Nice posting Ani.

“I have no real idea of what Obama would ACTUALLY do in the White House. Do you?”

If he gets elected, it will be interesting to watch how he falls on his face during his on the job training. For example, he has clearly sent signals of weakness throughout the world. Think about it – if you are Putin, you know two things about Obama – he doesn’t have the stomach for war and he is obsessed with his own image. Putin is going to sucker punch him right and left. And when he undoes the success of the surge and tries to pull out of Iraq, it will descend into chaos, as Iran seeks to humiliate the USA to the greatest extent possible. Bambi won’t see it coming because he’ll convince himself that his great skills in diplomacy have secured some victory, but in reality, the Iranian theocrats will have conned him with ease. On the domestic front, his tax hikes on business will send the weak economy into a deep recession and his spending will make it worse.

The media will try their best to prop him up, but since they made him, they can take him down. However, they will be reluctant to do this because after four years of economic hardship, decline in American power, incompetence and stuttering, the road will be paved for a Palin presidency.

Comment by Lee M | 2008-10-03 18:38:43

Very nice article, Ani. Too bad some of these nose in the air jerks don’t go out in a rainstorm and relieve the country of their presence.

As KC posted above, neither do I know what Obama would do in the White House. I would venture to say neither does he. He will do whatever the king makers who are behind his rise in the political world tell him to do. We are not sure yet who they are - only that they are rich and powerful.

Do you think for one minute that he wasn’t brought forth upon the scene by some very powerful people for their own nefarious purposes? Who can buy the MSM? Who can rig a number of primaries and caucuses? Who can step in and take over the DNC and move it to Chicago in the twinkling of an eye?

With his nose in the air he tells us old bitter people that we are not needed anymore. Well, I have news for him. These old bitter people just might tell him on November 4th that HE is not needed anymore.

“Last night Sarah Palin showed she could hold her own with a 36-year veteran of the Senate.”

The VP debates are so yesterday. They would stay that way if Ed Rollins had his way.

The panel on Charlie Rose discussed the debate for the first ten minutes. They thought that Biden was too Senatorial but that Palin came over well because
A. She didn’t crater.
B. She sounded folksy.

Folksy? Alaskans and Westerners (there’s a difference) have redneck accents just like mine. Palin sounded like she was answering a casting call from Fargo.

The panel was then drawn into the gravity well of the financial and credit crisis. The debates got sucked down that black hole along with the trillions lost worldwide. (Good news for Johnson, the Euro is falling!)

If you hear from Palin again it will be in 2004 Red states where McCain is behind and needs an electoral edge.

In view of the McCain campaign withdrawal from Michigan, it is time for Johnson to prod the GOP into releasing the Whitey Tape to YouTube.

Either that or start a new war.

“Many people in Seattle, Idaho, and Oregon (Pacific Northwest states) don’t see Alaska as vastly different.”

Western and Eastern Washington are as alike as Ireland and the face of the Moon. But don’t believe Old Jim, find a redneck bar in Yakima and sing the praises of Seattle. The natives will appreciate it.

When you have finished healing, go to Idaho and repeat that in Plumber or Wallace, maybe even beat the bushes around Hayden Lake.

Expand you horizons, once the casts are off, and look up Stokes if he still has KGEZ just outside Kalispell (he’s a blow-in from Snohomish County). Be yourself, speak freely.

“Heck our oil comes from Alaska.”

Except for the oil that comes from Alberta and California.

Kern County produces 10% of the oil consumed in the United States.

Best of luck with your studies in Rocket Science.

There is nothing dumber than a “liberal.” It’s just not possible:

ThinkProgress and other liberal entities analyzed the tape from last night’s vice presidential debate and seem to believe that Gov. Sarah Palin brought a sheaf of talking points to her lectern and simply read them.

That’s not what happened.

Debate rules prohibited candidates from bringing any pre-prepared material with them.

Only blank paper and writing utensils were provided.

Blocked the gutting of the federal Community Reinvestment Act. Forced Fannie Mae to establish a precedent-setting program to buy community reinvestment mortgages.

Forced HUD to .. make it easier for low and moderate-income people to purchase HUD-owned properties.

Struck down barriers to voter registration.. Registered over 1.1 million new voters..

No. This is not from a right-wing blog or a news organization. It is from the group that is more than partly responsible for the dominoes falling, boasting about their role in these areas.

News coverage of these genuine controversies have been scant. That’s unfortunate.
ACORN’s doing a lot of work on the ground, and its sheer size qualifies it as a powerful interest, even as it helps the powerless. As a story, it’s got race, class, politics and power going for it. Here’s hoping we read more about ACORN pro, con and otherwise, before the election.

It is true that visiting other countries can be an incredible experience, opening up ones eyes to all the similarities and differences and possibilities between peoples - not to mention the geography, architecture, art, etc. Especially when the culture is very different from one’s own. It took me three visits to Japan (and visits to US by Japanese colleagues) before I started to feel I was getting to understand them a little.
But that doesn’t mean one is a lesser being if you haven’t been anywhere. Anyone with the wish and the curiosity to learn about the world can achieve a lot staying at home. And just having a passport and being a “world traveler” doesn’t mean a thing by itself. If you don’t have the empathy and the will and the interest you will just waste a hell of a lot of money. Do you really believe that most of these snobs want to get to know that much on their travels? They want to be able to come back and talk about somewhere their neighbors haven’t been and show off. Do you think that BO really wants to “meet the people” since he apparently isn’t even interested in his half brother? You can travel the world with eyes wide shut and not learn a thing.

I have experience in international commerce. I bought a blanket at a roadside market in Mexico back in 1998. I probably also had more of a local learning experience visiting with the family at that market than the Zero did at his Berlin concert. You make a good point, indeed.

You’ll need a passport for that nowadays.

California is bankrupt too. Schwartzenegger says California has no money and needs 7 billion too. Who’s next? Lou Dobbs is having a good show tonight. He’s upset about this bailout bill.

My puppy keeps wanting BO! Can’t explain presidential politics to her, but she insists that BO is tastier than McCain!

Ani, excellent commentary. You nailed it when you compared the way McCain responded to a voter’s question, and the typical BO way of brushing someone off. VERY good article.

Palin was outstanding last night. I’m going to try NOT to pay too much attention to polls anymore because McCain/Palin are so far and above the BoBiden ticket that I only have to conclude that the polls are suspect.

MCCAIN/PALIN ‘08

Hi Everyone!

I thought that Palin was amazing in her delivery…but face it the MSM will NEVER admit just how well she did.

When BO held his own against MCCain they said he won, just because he didn’t lose.

When Palin didn’t lose they said….she didn’t damage the campaign……yeah right!

This AM the first thing I heard was Mike Barnicle who I have always liked…who said that Palin was “our lowest common denominator”…Screw it..is that a new way to say WHITE TRASH w/o saying it???

I think he must have said it during a PDS moment(Palin Dearangement Syndrome), but I will be God Damned if I ever meet him I will let him know what I think about that undisciplined statment.

I am supporting MAC and Palin ,but face it the MSM will throw up all over themselves, and then rewrite history ASAP…

Comment by YES HRC | 2008-10-03 18:45:36

Barnicle is white trash. He has sounded like a b*tchy debutante all year trying to keep Hillary (and now Sarah) out of the sorority.

McCain needs to step it up NOW. He can not wait any longer. He is not going to win this election by being mr. nice war hero.

He has got to hit Obama VERY hard. It’s almost like he wants to lose.

Comment by Goblintrain | 2008-10-03 19:09:33

Ani, i think you felt a little of what i felt last night after watching the debate. Sarah has really called forth the true arrogance and disdain of the Elite towards the common American “bug under a glass”.
It has really come out of the woodwork in both blogs & commentaries, & is the most ugly, divisive talk i have heard in my life from one American to another over a presidential candidate!. And make no mistake, i wanted McCain, not Bush in 2000, and again in ‘04 was sure i would vote Democrat against Bush until the “condescension factor” in the person of Senator John “When i was in Vietnam!” Kerry! I think i skipped president vote those 2 elections, i didn’t know how to deal with the lack of real choice in those elections.

But like you said, this election the choice is clear. We vote character & put country first!

Humility!
Gratitude!
Character!

Go McCain/Palin!

McCain is not going to be aggressive against Obama:

http://www.riehlworldview.com/carnivorous_conservative/2008/10/if-accurate-the.html

sounds like all the October surprises will stay in the vaults while McCain tries to win on the issues.

He will not win on issues alone, because Americans are blaming Republicans for everything right now.

Comment by Smilin' Jim | 2008-10-03 20:53:57

“while McCain tries to win on the issues.”

That would be insane. McCain’s only chance is to suppress his anger but have the campaign go even more negative.

Very well stated article, Ani.

It’s amazing to me that it’s taken so long for so many to see what an arrogant p***ant Obama is. It was clear back in Iowa with 99 Problems but a Bitch Ain’t One, the finger to Hillary, the brushing her off his shoulders, his website offering Bro’s before Ho’s tee shirts, and so much more.

He is and always will be classless, and the fact that so many want to vote for this hack just serves to remind us that we live in a Jerry Springer society.

I was just watching a Political Forum on BET and they were talking about the debate and someone mentioned the part where Biden talked about his pain from the loss of his wife and injury to his children. He made his pain seen so fresh but this is something that happened 36 YEARS AGO. This happened BEFORE Biden took the Oath of Office, has Biden been using this tragedy to win Office for 36 years??

Everyone should watch Fox on Sunday on Hannity America..He intends to show all Obama’s friends and radical friends..Should be a good hour.

I’m surprised more hasn’t been said about Biden’s vacuous-looking smiling at Palin. It was as though he was forcing himself to look tolerant and came off, to me, as condescending. It looked totally forced and phony. I also wonder if Bobo had to beg him to be veep. We all know of people like Ted Strickland who said in no uncertain terms that they wouldn’t have the position, so I really do wonder if the Dems had to look high and low. Biden often seems to be going through the motions and gritting his teeth.

Comment by Ani | 2008-10-03 23:09:51

Yes. I agree. You are absolutely right about this.

Many turned Obama down. Strickland, Rendell, Webb and many more.

It is quiet obvious — as it was at his campaign stop in New Hampshire recently when Biden said Hillary would have been a better pick than him, that he is quite uncomfortable indeed.

How unfortunate that the corporate controlled media is so hell bent for leather to push this man to the Presidency.

Those very qualities of the Republican voter

Humility.
Gratitude.
Character…
as well as honesty, ethics, and plain old “playing fair”

Will cost us this election - while the Obama Organized Crime Committee go out there and CHEAT their way into the White House.

We have allowed the media to CONTAIN us, out here in cyberspace. Socialism, here we come.
