New McCain Ad — Tax Cutter

Another day, another pitiful ad from the McCain campaign. This ad is a 30 second spot.

Here’s a clue Johnny Boy, look at at these ads from Right Change. If you want to win, and I am not sure you do, those are the types of ads that you need to run, not the above nonsense.

From my blog, By The Fault.

yea.. obama should be nailed over and over on his failed housing record as well.

OBAMA MEANS BIG GOVERNMENT EPIC FAIL

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/27/grim_proving_ground_for_obamas_housing_policy/

As a state senator, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee coauthored an Illinois law creating a new pool of tax credits for developers. As a US senator, he pressed for increased federal subsidies. And as a presidential candidate, he has campaigned on a promise to create an Affordable Housing Trust Fund that could give developers an estimated $500 million a year.

But a Globe review found that thousands of apartments across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies – including several hundred in Obama’s former district – deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obama’s close friends and political supporters. Those people profited from the subsidies even as many of Obama’s constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.

This is great information –

and, this is not just about BO’s housing policy — it is about tax law: the creation of a $500 mill. pool of government revenue for use as tax credits to housing developers (e.g., Rezko) is a type of indirect tax hike on everyone else, because the government has to make up the revenue shortfall from this ‘expenditure’ somewhere else.

Like from those who are not his special friends.

CHARLES: I think the Right Change ads are spot on, brilliant. But I think they are more powerful coming from Right Change. I think McCain has had some great ads. He has had some mediocre ads. But in the final analysis, what is the campaign ad everyone remembers from 2004???—the Swiftboat Ad. That was not from the Bush campaign and Bush even put a little distance between himself and that ad, even tho’ it was pretty much all surface distance. The fact is that ad would not have worked if it were from the Bush campaign but from the “veterans” group, it gained a power that probably accounted for Bush winning that election. I think Sarah is phenomenally effective in bringing up the Ayers issue—probably can be more effective than McCain could be just because she is who she is.

Charles, the right change ads are beautiful. One small criticism. They move at an MTV pace. I can hardly focus on the text and I’m 49. Our voters in Ohio and Penn. and Florida are not spring chickens. Can’t they slow it down a little? I know add time is hugely expensive, but this message needs to be heard.

The Boston papers are doing an excellent job on really exposing the truth behind the housing scams that lead to the financial crisis. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter here in Massachusetts. The state is blue and Barney will once again be re-elected to his seat when it’s up again. Oh Duh! That’s why they can be REAL journalists for a change. They don’t have to spew biased reporting to get “the One” elected here. Silly me.

Charles, you are right. Another lame ad with no substance. It is good that Mccain did not hired my service for advertising because Obama would be history by now. The Right Change ads are rated B+ by me and are the best that I have seen. I believe in throwing the kitchen sink and dirtying my hands. What is left for Mccain? Obama is using Acorn, Obama is using buses to pick up college students, Obama is using RACE as a tool, Obama is a thug. And the way you beat a thug is to be a thug. I say to the Mccain camp. I voted for Hillary because I believed she was the most qualified and now I have switched my vote because I believe your man, Mccain and smirky Palin, are the most qualified for our country at this time. So you 30 days to go to win this thing and you have to start dirtying your hands. The first thing is to bring up his associations at the next debate. Say to Obama, “I can’t see how you sat in a pulpit for 20 years listen to GODDAMM AMERICA- AND THEN HAVE SAT ANOTHER 10 YEARS WITH A TERRORIST WHO BOMB OUR BUILDINGS. I CAN’T SEE HOW YOU SAY TO THE FIGHTING MEN AND WOMEN THAT ARE BLEEDING FOR US AND TO THEIR FAMILIES THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RAIDS OF VILLAGES AND THE KILLING OF INNOCENT LIVES. WHAT KIND OF MAN CALLS HIMSELF A PATRIOT? YOU, MY FRIEND, ARE NOT A PATRIOT AND IF YOU THINK YOU ARE- WE DON’T NEED TOO MANY OF YOU FIGHTING OUR WARS IN THE FUTURE.

Be nasty- be direct- be strong for our Eagle- be strong for our nation- be strong for our people- for socialism is coming to America and we must stop it before it spreads.

I just have to say that the McCain camp may finally be headed in that direction. Saw today that Palin brought up Obama’s connection to Ayers at a rally. She said Obama’s been paling around with terrorists.

The may be but the first in a string of remarks (attacks) to be levied against Obama to start putting him on defense again. Certainly you can’t gain any ground while constantly having to fend off charges.

That’s the way to go with just 4 weeks left!

The secret of today’s communication is stressing the detail, one of a hundred details, well explained, the 99 others are irrelevant.

If Biden makes 20 mistakes, one need to concentrate not in the many but in just one. Palin was much more detailed in her accusations against Obama.

He did not squander it. LMAO That money was delivered to 4 or 5 community action groups, including ACORN. They were supposed to train parents to “participate in school councils as advocates for their children”. They were organized to support the continuing election of the Chicago Machine. These inner-city education grants and neighborhood rehab grants are all alike; the money goes to politically connected community organizers who are usually minority, upward bound folks and take in very nice salaries considering their educational background and job experience. Another big scam is under the Dept. of Labor and its job training programs where the same thing happens—community organizer types get great salaries, nice vacations, lots of conferences in nice hotel settings where they “talk about” what they are going to do for all those minority kids who dropped out and are going nowhere. Oh yeah, it really works well.

I was at the Palin rally today. She was AMAZING. The stadium was packed to capacity and they had to overflow it to another one. The audience treats her like a rockstar. Every time Obama’s name came up people screamed “Obama sucks” and “Liar” over and over. She said it was time to “take the gloves off” as far as Obama and YES she went on and on about Ayers. She did it in a GREAT way…She mentioned the media being obsessed with BS stuff like “what she reads.” Well, she said she happened to be reading the NY TIMES this morning and, low and behold, she say this story on Obama and his domestic terrorist friend Ayers who bombed the Pentagon. To say it was PRICELESS is an understatement. She also said she was at Starbucks drinking her coffee this am…and on the cup was the “quote of the day” from Madeleine Albright…”There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women.” The crowd went wild again. She is the MOST charming, gorgeous, brilliant shining star ever. Mark my words, she will be POTUS some day and I’ll br thrilled to have her.

i think there should be ONE ad on obama’s record of epic failure:

housing policy: enriched his friends, people’s homes deteriorated (with a quote from the boston globe article or a clip from carol marin’s report)

schooling: as chairman of Annenberg Challenge, $160M squandered (quote one of the many stories where it shows no improvement on eduction)

welfare reform: obama against very successful welfare reform measures and bill clinton’s signature accomplishments

maybe mention pritzker, obama’s national finance chair, and superior banks major subprime failure costing people’s retirements..

this association with ayers is a little weak. the argument should aim directly at obama, and he has had many epic failures. if they try to defend annenberg, that means the media will have to write about it.

anyway, how do we get an ad like this running?

Comment by Soldier of Christ | 2008-10-04 20:23:53

M8888- what you want to report is what socialist love to have- free everything from the government. It wouldn’t change their minds. I have a deep feeling if some racial against the whites that are voting for Obama hits the airwaves- it is over for Obama. Obama is winning because there are alot of whites voting for him and 95% of blacks. 5% of blacks are Republicans and would never vote for him because of their deep rooted faith. They rather cut their hand off, so, if something does not sway the white vote- you might be seeing a new socialist President in November.

Comment by lark | 2008-10-04 20:43:23

Soldier of Christ, I think many white elitist and other white folks are voting for Obama because they think that Obama will straighten up black people, meaning black youth and black men. We, as white Americans are flabbergasted at the black culture and their lax ways to deal with their problems. So that Obama is a promise of ‘REFORM’ for black popular culture. It is an understated message but it is there.

Just like Christ changes people’s attitudes and behavior, Obama is a promise to black people that he will change black attitudes and behavior.

And example of that is the now very well known youtube video of the ‘Obama youth’ that we saw here not long ago.

Comment by standard | 2008-10-04 20:10:18

Hey Harp –
Barny Frank has called for regulation most of his career.
Republicans oppose regulation as government intervention in the free markets which “is a form of socialism.”
Republicans have always pushed free marketing because they claim
“government regulation stifles free markets.”
The Bush administration controls regulatory agencies, not congress.
The administration allowed the financial industry to reduce their assets
below mandated limits so they could make more bad mortgage loans.

You are confusing two terms that people too often conflate: regulation and accountability. Regulation means rules and compliance to those rules which can become stifling and are often opposed by Republicans as a barrier to free markets and business ingenuity. Accountability is being held accountable not for compliance to regulatory procedures but accountable for results. The two are inherently different and yet their reach overlaps. Republicans were calling for FF to be accountable for economic soundness of their lending practices. That is not making loans that were so risky they endangered the entire economic system. There was an independent audit report that clearly showed significant problems.

The Gramm bill that Clinton signed gave us the “too big to fail” MEGA banks. It deregulated and allowed consolidation at Bank of America, Citibank, Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo. Problematic- yes. But, are they failing? hell no, they are buying. The problem lies with over leveraged mortage securities which the Dems blocked regulating and credit default swaps which Bush’s administration turned a blind eye to. Pay attention. There is going to be a big test later.

New Agency Proposed to Oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae

By STEPHEN LABATON
Published: September 11, 2003

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

‘The regulator has not only been outmanned, it has been outlobbied,” said Representative Richard H. Baker, the Louisiana Republican who has proposed legislation similar to the administration proposal and who leads a subcommittee that oversees the companies. ”Being underfunded does not explain how a glowing report of Freddie’s operations was released only hours before the managerial upheaval that followed. This is not world-class regulatory work.”

Significant details must still be worked out before Congress can approve a bill. Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.”

In 2003 the democrats blocked this regulation.

If McCain can bring this out at the debate, he wins.

That would be an excellent line of attack. Because any contradiction could be labeled ‘racist,’ just as any contradiction to any Obama proposal is ‘racist.’

I really don’t think McCain is showing he wants to win at this point. These kinds of ads won’t help him win, especially when he talks about the economy, as voters tend to favor Obama when it comes to that.

Hell, McCain pulled out of Michigan! That should have been a lock for him considering the uproar over having their delegates stripped before the convention. What’s next? Giving up on Florida now that he is down in that state as well? You don’t quit state’s that you need to win.

To me, it doesn’t look like he has anything major up his sleeve. If he did, would he be pulling out of Michigan, and running pathetic attack ads?

Comment by Docelder | 2008-10-04 21:16:07

If McCain pulls out of Michigan, Obama will spend less time and money there as well. It will even out. It is interesting to see the rally turnout in California. I am not so certain that California is or was a lock for the democrats. They are having their own financial crisis. Certainly, if Obama is forced to advertise there, it will divert resources away from other states. With Palin’s star power, McCain doesn’t need to spend much money somewhere like California to cause the Obama camp problems. She will prove to be the secret weapon. Instead of placating the press, she will be busy with the people. This is proving to be interesting.

Here is one more thing to ponder over, election tickets are final in most States 10 days prior to election date, all States 7 days prior to election date, so if for some reason Obama was disqualified on Oct 28th, the Dem ticket is Biden for POTUS come election day.

Comment by jd4hill | 2008-10-04 20:44:48

What do you think would get his disqualified?

Comment by jd4hill | 2008-10-04 20:45:41

typo — what would get HIM disqualified?

Comment by mel | 2008-10-04 20:49:58

Remember Bill Clintons words at the convention, anyone legally and constitutionally able can run for POTUS. Bill wouldn’t make such statments without certain knowledge, backed by Obama’s refusal to give Berg his Birth certificate and citizenship papers.

And Oct 28th is Rezko’s sentencing day, coincidence?

Comment by Brandon | 2008-10-04 21:35:01

You are reading way too much into things. If there is something big going to happen, then McCain would stand his ground in Michigan.

Obama will not be disqualified. If you are pinning your hopes on that, then you will be disappointed.

McCain’s last hope for winning this is the supposed “whitey tape”, and if it does exist, then he knows nothing about it.

Comment by Mel | 2008-10-05 09:03:35

Sorry about your narrow views, I look at the entire picture, not the narrow, so many things can occur in the weeks ahead including Obama being disqualified!

As for MI, when you look at the entire map, Illinois would have ben a far better State to leave thaan MI was, unless there is a plan for MI the battleground state.

Holding hopes on just the whitey tape is rediculous, when the slime pot that is Obama runnith over with plenty of reasons and exposures to rid America of him!

I think many white elitist and other white folks are voting for Obama because they think that Obama will straighten up black people, meaning black youth and black men.

The problem with McCain campaign is that it ignores African Americans and what they look for in a president.

McCain need to make a few ads expressing his concerns for the African American community and how he and his administration intends to tackle the problem of African American integration.

Comment by Docelder | 2008-10-04 21:22:41

McCain will be everybody’s President. But, with the tape out there, McCain needs to stay as far away from race as possible. He needs to stay clean from the negative effects of the tape and everything it will bring.

Lark,

I agree with you, in that McCain has to stop ignoring the AA. Especailly, now. I am not AA, but alot of my friends are. And it has been a very touch subject, to say the least. So I’ve now avoid the subject of politics, unless they bring it up first, then I just simply tell them what i think (like it or not).

However, this week I’ve notice as shift (FROM voting for Obama to not voting at all). I have not really been able to figure out the reason for the change. But it does give me some hope, that Obama’s base is falling. Plus, I also know many AA that saw Obama for what he is from the very beginning; and then you have your Christian Conservative AA–>that put GOD/morals/anti-abortion first (thus vote Rep), counrty second.

I just hope it not too late. Esp. since McCain gave up on Michigan.

Charles,

I will disagree with you about the ad.

It’s not the sexiest spot, but does succeed in painting BO to be a tax-and-spend liberal. That message is effective, especially these days.

McCain’s ads are truly sucking.

I don’t think this ad is terrible. I think it is directed at several targets rather effectively, just not the ones that a group like this might want.

First off: Who is Barrack Obama? Great lead-in, and the ultimate question of this election.

The female voice-over, which McCain’s campaign has used a lot, is an educated woman without a regional accent. She’s also just a touch sarcastic without sounding “bitchy,” which is a good tone to take in questioning BO’s statements and history. She raises legitimate questions about simple topics that people care about and that affect them personally. Taxes, liars in government, and who to trust.

The average voter is thick-skinned when it comes to things that sound like conspiracy theories. They can easily toss things like Ayers and Wright onto the same scrap-heap as JFK assassination plots and UFO abductions. If the accusation sounds “incredible,” they don’t give it credibility.

This ad plays on taxpayers’ fears of higher taxes with the Wall Street bail-out and BO’s talk of adding new programs. They may not believe he hangs out with terrorists or may not care that he failed as an administrator of Annenburg, but they can relate to higher taxes, and they know they will likely go up to pay for more government.

The last part of the ad is aimed at Democrats, warning legislators that they will share the blame with BO. This is odd, but it can work psychologically to cool the rhetoric of some Dems who might want to distance themselves a bit to cover their own asses. It also works to incite the Conservative base about turning out to vote against “Congressional Liberals,” a call to arms. It’s like hedging a bet. “You may not be wild about me, but don’t stay home on Election Day… you need to vote for Congress too.”

IMHO

Look at the bright side at least this time everything was spelt correctly in the ad. Then again they didn’t tackle any words as difficult as “exaggerate”.
