Talking To The Press (Updated)
By Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy on October 6, 2008 at 8:15 PM in AIDS, Backtrack Obama, Bamboozling, Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, GLBT, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Pandering
I seem to be on a roll here with this issue, so why fight it? Alert NQ reader, WorkingClassArtist, informed me that Senator John McCain had done an interview with the Washington Blade, a GLBT magazine. Now, some of you may recall that it was like pulling teeth to get Obama to ever talk to a gay publication, but he finally did talk to the Advocate in April of this year. And if you are keeping score, you know that Hillary Clinton never had that problem; she has always talked to gay publications, has always marched in Pride parades (Obama: 0). And now, Senator McCain has spoken to the Washington Blade. As the article points out, this is the FIRST time a Republican presidential candidate has agreed to do so.
All in all, it’s an interesting interview, both for what it says, and for what it does not. McCain does not hedge his responses, but gives his full opinion, whether the readers will like it or not.
Unlike Obama, who has consistently said one thing, then said the other (I have written about this a ton, most recently “Two-fer: Faith Tour and Same Sex Marriage“). McCain actually has gay associates about whom he speaks glowingly, and beside whom he has stood, unlike Obama, whose associates include Donnie McClurkin, James Meeks, Doug Kmiec, and hell – Obama himself (”Gee, sorry Mayor Newsome, I won’t have my photo taken with someone who supports gay marriage!”).
No wonder Obama thinks people should not look at his associates to get an idea of who he is or to assess his judgment (Bill Ayers, anyone?). He knows they won’t like what they see. I guess he has never heard the expression, “birds of a feather flock together.” Anywho, you can read the whole piece at the link below, but I have included some highlights for you here:
McCain’s gay Q&A
‘I hope gay and lesbian Americans will give full consideration to supporting me.’
Washington Blade: What personal experiences or friendships in your life have shaped how you view gay issues?John McCain: I have known former Congressman Jim Kolbe for 25 years. We first ran for Congress in Arizona the same year — in 1982. We served together starting in 1985. He’s a great American who spent two decades serving his country in Congress. Like me, he also served in Vietnam so we have a special kinship. When he came out in 1996, there was no question that I would stand by him. He’s a friend and a patriot and has been an admirable public servant, and a good example of why someone’s sexuality should not be relevant in public life.
I have also known former Tempe Mayor [Neil] Giuliano for many years. He headed Mayors for McCain in our 2000 campaign. I stood by him when there was an effort to recall him in 2001, led by people who objected to him being an openly gay public official. He was a hard-working public servant and someone I have great respect for.
Blade: Do you have any role models who are openly gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender?
McCain: I had the humbling experience of speaking at Mark Bingham’s funeral after the attacks on Sept. 11. Mark had supported me during the 2000 campaign. Unfortunately, I barely knew him, but our country learned about him after 9-11. He was one of the heroes on 9-11 who tried to retake control of United Flight 93. His efforts along with the other brave patriots could have saved hundreds of lives. I honor and respect Mark. Memories of his sacrifice and the other victims from 9-11 motivate me everyday to make sure we keep our nation safe from the terrorists who want to attack our way of life because freedom is a threat to their message of hate.
Here’s what I said during his eulogy:
I love my country, and I take pride in serving her. But I cannot say that I love her more or as well as Mark Bingham did, or the other heroes on United Flight 93 who gave their lives to prevent our enemies from inflicting an even greater injury on our country. It has been my fate to witness great courage and sacrifice for America’s sake, but none greater than the selfless sacrifice of Mark Bingham and those good men who grasped the gravity of the moment, understood the threat, and decided to fight back at the cost of their lives. (The full eulogy is available at Tampa Bay Coalition’s site.) (On 9/11, I had a video from YouTube about Mark Bingham. I will put it at the bottom of this post.)
Blade: Would you decline to nominate a qualified Supreme Court justice, cabinet member or other appointed position just because the person is openly gay?
McCain: I have always hired the most qualified and competent people — regardless of their political party, race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.
Blade: Would you decline to nominate a qualified Supreme Court justice or cabinet member who had a history of anti-gay rulings?
McCain: I will nominate judges who interpret the Constitution, not judges who legislate from the bench. Legislators pass laws; judges interpret them. Unfortunately, too many judges have become confused [about] their role.
Blade: President Bush has been praised for his AIDS relief efforts in Africa, but many domestic AIDS service providers say the U.S. focus on the epidemic abroad ignores growing infection rates here at home. How would your AIDS policies differ from President Bush? And would you put a greater focus on the domestic problem?
McCain: I’m proud to have supported President Bush’s efforts to address the international AIDS crisis. History will remember him for the PEPFAR program, which has saved millions of lives. We’ve made progress on the domestic front too, but not enough. I am committed to supporting the development of a National AIDS Strategy. Countries receiving PEPFAR aid are required to develop a national plan; but we don’t have one in our country.
It’s important to settle on a national strategy — with input from state, local and federal government officials; along with the private sector, doctors, drug companies and AIDS advocates. Let’s roll up our sleeves and put together a National AIDS Strategy for more effectively addressing the domestic challenges.
Recent CDC statistics show that gay men continue to be strongly impacted by the disease, and the disease is disproportionately affecting people of color. Our prevention and treatment efforts must be improved to address these challenges.
Blade: Important gay rights legislation unrelated to marriage has been stalled in Congress for some time. You have a reputation for having challenged your party in the past. Would you work with Congress to pass or deal with any of the following: ENDA, the hate crimes bill, repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?”
McCain: I promise to give full consideration to any legislation that reaches my desk. On “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” I’m going to defer to our military commanders. So far they have told me it’s working. I’m willing to have the policy reviewed to make sure that’s the case, but at the end of the day, I’m going to rely on the commanders who will be impacted by a change in the law.
Blade: What is your reaction to the news that Log Cabin Republicans endorsed your campaign and will the Log Cabin Republicans be welcome in the White House if you’re elected?
McCain: I appreciate Log Cabin’s support. I’ve had a friendly relationship with the organization for almost 15 years. We don’t agree on every issue, but I respect their commitment to the GOP and I thank them for their support. Our party needs to focus on what unites us and I appreciate Log Cabin’s effort to make the GOP more inclusive. I have always been willing to discuss the important issues of the day with Log Cabin members and that will continue if I am elected. This is going to be a close election and we need support from every American.
I hope gay and lesbian Americans will give full consideration to supporting me. The stakes are high in this election. I will have an inclusive administration and I will be a president for all Americans.
Blade: How would a McCain administration approach abstinence-until-marriage sex education initiatives? What is your view regarding programs that provide safe-sex messages specific to gay youth?
McCain: I have supported including abstinence as a component of sex-education programs. Decisions regarding programs targeted specifically at gay youth should be made based on a review of the scientific data to determine what works and what doesn’t, but they must encourage responsible individual behavior.
Blade: When asked last year whether condoms help stop the spread of HIV, you were uncertain. Are you confident that condoms do help stop the spread of HIV?
McCain: Of course they help, but we can’t remove responsibility from the equation. Condoms aren’t fail-proof. People must behave responsibly and make wise decisions. Government can help with prevention strategies, but all people must choose to take responsibility for their own health.Blade: Will you support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act if elected president?
McCain: Gay and lesbian people should not face discrimination in the workplace. I’ve always practiced that in my hiring. I select the best people, regardless of their sexual orientation. I support the concept of non-discrimination in hiring for gay and lesbian people.
However, we need to make sure legislation doesn’t lead to a flood of frivolous lawsuits or infringe on religious institutions. What I can say now is I will give careful consideration to any legislation that reaches my desk, and confer with Congress before making decisions.
Blade: What are your thoughts on the Matthew Shepard Act?
McCain: I have voted against the proposal several times. Let me make it clear that no one should face violence because of who they are. It’s un-American and morally repugnant. People who commit any violent crime should face tough penalties. However, I am not convinced that this is properly a federal issue, or that criminal sentences for terrible crimes should be longer because of the views of the perpetrator or the identity of the victim.
Editor’s note: John McCain’s presidential campaign this week agreed to respond in writing to these questions, which were drafted by William R. Kapfer, co-president of Window Media, the Blade’s parent company, and Blade staff and submitted to the campaign by Kapfer.
As I said, there is much more in this article, including questions about same sex marriage, adoption, and others. I urge you to go read it all. One point McCain makes over and over is that he is a Federalist, and believes that states should be making decisions on their own without interference by the federal government. I most definitely do NOT agree with McCain’s positions on some of the issues discussed in this article, but I DO appreciate that he does not pander to whoever his audience is at the moment. I far prefer to know exactly where candidates stand so I can make reasonable decisions. Otherwise, I might give my vote to someone who is unworthy of it, who will turn on me at the drop of a hat. I want to know, even if I do not agree with that person, I want to know. Don’t patronize me, that’s what I’m saying. Don’t tell me what you think I WANT to hear (OBAMA), and tell me where you really stand (McCain). That’s all I’m asking. Then I get to decide.
As promised, here’s the video on Mark Bingham (this was not the original one I had. The original was by Melissa Etheridge, but that video is no longer available, sadly):

Did Obama actually sit and be interviewed by the Advocate? The article written about him was glowing and perfect. There was a perfect answer for every question we had about Obama and his friendships to the G&L community. Too perfect if you get my drift. My reaction after reading the article is that it was fabricated by his campaign and submitted to the Advocate.
Didn’t you read the Editor’s Note? The questions were submitted to the McCain campaign in writing.
So Rev. Amy is not quite correct when she says McCain “has spoken to” the Blade.
He at least responded. Your candidate, on the other hand, bashes the community with the likes of Donnie McClurkin and Douglas Kmiec.
Hey, Truthteller -
Ah, yes – so much easier to nitpick at a colloquial choice of words than to address the SUBSTANCE of the article, but hey – what else is new??
Anywho – in addition to Obama’s anti-gay good buddies, he has already started backpedaling from what he said BEFORE the Convention. Sheesh, by Nov., no telling WHAT he’ll say!
Like I said – I want to know where a person stands, really stands. Even if I don’t agree with them, I can work with them.
And, I’ll take actions over words any day, and McCain has shown where he stands by his actions. Obama’s actions have shown something, too – that he doesn’t believe a word he says. Neither should we.
Great story Rev.Amy. I think you nailed it. I don’t agree with McCain on a lot of stuff…But I do think he’s a straight up fella…which is sayin an awful lot for a politician. I think the questions and the responses were revealing and I think LGBT community and the issues have made inroads….McCain sounds decent. He certainly doesn’t sound like a republican goosestepper.
Hmmm….As far as I can see the party that seems the most exciting in terms of real change & reform…seems to be the GOP…these…chuckle…are certainly interesting times…
Rev. Amy…YOU ROCK!
Yes I read the editor’s note. My question was about Obama’s fabricated interviews.
SOMEONE please make me feel better…uhbama is leading in some of the polls…what’s the deal?
I know that Kerry supposedly led in polls this time in 2004, but someone just give me some comfort here?
Heh…goddamn I don’t want uhbama winning.
Aye, it’s comfort ye be seeking? Well… maybe there’ll be a deadly jihadist terror attack in a European capital between now and November. That type of thing always redounds to the benefit of Republicans.
Keep hope alive.
And certainly we don’t wish (or hope for) any kind of attack on anyone…but if Israel just happened to strike at Iran’s nuclear facilities, this would probably be favorable for the Repubs I would think.
I always keep hope alive, UBM. As far as I’m concerned, the living Americans will beat all the dead and underage Americans that Obama and Acorn have “registered” to vote.
The Ghetto is about to have it’s ass handed to it.
RepublicanChick, I like the way you think!
Rc Chick…Question…Will the GOP actually listen to HRC supporters if MAC wins…I don’t expect them to be liberals…but I actually sense some changes or maybe a shift toward the center…Much like what WJC did for Centrist Democrats…what do you think? Wouldn’t that be something…Really working together across the aisle…no?
I’m not repubchick but I think I can take a stab at answering that question. I don’t even think you have to be Republican to answer that question, just look at McCain’s record. He has problems with some conservatives because he does what he thinks is right, not what is always right for the “right.” Examples are campaign finance and immigration reform. The bailout is another example. He may not always be correct, but as long as he is doing what he thinks is right for America, that’s all you can ask. Character is the most important quality a president can have. All the greats had it. McCain’s got it. Without character Washington probably wouldn’t have done the Jay Treaty and another war with England may have happened, and we may not be here talking about this election. You never know what is going to happen in those 4 years. America needs the leader who does what they think is correct. Character.
Ignore the polls and carry on and fight for Mac!
Kerry lead by double digits and lost.
Bush the First v Clinton had a lead straight into election week and lost.
History paints the picture. We will not know until Nov. 4. Leads and polls don’t matter worth a damn. I don’t care what anyone says.
In fact how much did Gore lead by in 2000?
have faith in middle America – the voters that Hillary won. The ones who care about this country. Economic crisis, Iraq war – while the issues are important to us – the people Hillary won and the republican equivalents vote with their hearts. I should know I am one of them - COUNTRY FIRSTalways
Yep…I was watching PBS presidents series ( American Experience) and tonights was on Jimmy Carter ( my first POTUS election to vote in was Reagan v Carter )…I hadn’t heard the term silent majority in a long time…I think now they call it Reagan Democrats…And Reagan won against a split party…hmmmm….Carter got 6 states…
I am gay and would never in a millions years vote for obama.
I am gay also, and I feel the same way. I could never understand people who would allow their crotch to determine their vote. Country first.
lesbian here. no obama. no way. no how. EVER. my democrat friends hate me. but… i don’t care. i don’t hate them, i just think they’re STUPID. STUPID. STUPID. and politically correct. oh, and STUPID.
Exactly! I don’t hate them either…but they ARE stupid.
Ah… birds of a feather…
I feel at home.
Here’s to political correctness!
CLEAN END OF THE TURD

YOU’VE GOT MAIL — I just received this from two different friends — it’s worth passing on to PUMAs!
The following is the winning entry in an annual contest at Texas A&M
University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary
term: This year’s term was Political Correctness.
The winner wrote:
“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical
minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd

I’m not gay but have been trying to educate my gay friends.
Every last one of them has handed their uninformed brains over to politically “correct” — maddenining!
Of course that would be “maddening” not the typo above!
am gay also, and I feel the same way. I could never understand people who would allow their crotch to determine their vote. Country first.
I’m a white heterosexual female and I am tired of the Dems trying to jerk me around by the womb.
I don’t get crotch politics either.
I am gay. Proud one. I am one for McCain.
we can win this one ladies!
You betcha.
Everytime I see a “Palinism” I laugh.
She didn’t coin any of these phrases, but gosh darnit I’m lovin’ it.
no diggity! i just feels soooo good talking like this….ya know?
Amy what happened to the video? Says it is not available.
The obots got rid of it. They do this constanst. If there is a report button, they spam it. They don’t like you to have your freedom of speech.
Thanks for letting me know – I’ll see if I can fix it…
Shucks – now it says there’s some 3rd party claim on that one. The song by Melissa Etheridge was awesome, too…
Whenever a YouTube video disappears, there is always a way to “retrieve” it.
For example, if one used the following program (make sure you still have the URL link), then it shouldn’t be a problem.
http://revivetube.com/
Happy Hunting, Amy!
Thanks, RC! I tried it, but it couldn’t do it. Still, that’s a great feature. Thanks for letting me know!
Do you have the URL?
I had the embed code, and when I put it in the retrieve function, it showed up. But if I tried to click on it, it said it was unavailable.
Thanks for a another great article Rev. Amy! And yes, that’s precisely what I like about McCain, he does not (like the Plastic One) pander to any one audience, but tells it the way he sees it. I know where I stand with him.
nobama will NEVER be my president even if he does manage to cheat his way into the Oval Office. And, I, like John McCain and the majority of us here at NQ, will NEVER give up on my country.
Obama is crazy. He probably will go Islamic on gays and have them stoned to death even though secretly he is gay. You know, those people who take out their insecurities on others. I can see Michelle whipping out a machine gun and mowing down innocent people.
With her stare, she doesn’t need a gun. That alone could “mow” over millions.
LOL!!!
I still can’t get over her evil glare at Hillary at the convention. If she can’t cover up how she feels with the eyes of the world on her, I hate to see how she behaves in private.
omg, Barbara Bush has nothing on Michelle….no wonder they keep her under wraps. She needs some lessons on sneer-control. Too bad we’re not playing poker for the country because Michelle would give away the game with that antithesis of the poker face.
i thought obama might be gay? isn’t that the current story?
OT – sorry!
NYT just put up an article about Rezko – he’s talkin’!
but wait, i just went back to get the link – AND THE ARTICLE IS GONE!!!!
Man, the NYT just can’t censor it’s own fast enough…
the moral is to take a screen shot or save the page to PDF so they can’t get away with this.
Are you serious? Rezko talking. That would be a godsend. NYT had to cover it up quickly.

FROM the AP:
Prosecutors move to delay Rezko sentencing
By MIKE ROBINSON – 2 hours ago
CHICAGO (AP) — Federal prosecutors have asked to delay the sentencing of convicted fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko indefinitely.
The motion filed Monday afternoon signals the key fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Sen. Barack Obama and other Illinois Domocrats may be telling prosecutors what he knows about corruption in state government.
It asks U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve to delay the sentencing “while the parties engage in discussions that could affect their sentencing postures.” The language is all but an acknowledgment that Rezko is talking.
Rezko was convicted of launching a $7 million scheme to use his clout with Blagojevich’s administration to pressure a contractor and firms wanting to do business with the state for kickbacks.

Don’t forget this either. Here is a voice from his lost NY days.

Obama
Why is he ashamed?
Why Are they assuming it is only state government? The AP does not seem to be impartial lately.
Remember the “One” was part of that state government steering money to Rezko.
Understood but did not that house deal happen when he was a Senator?
Yes but so far that hasn’t been brought up during the trial.
It might be being discussed with Fitzy now though! I can’t see Fitzy dealing with Rezko unless he sings about everyone.
Man o Man….Somebody triple the guards on REZKO…Quick!
Thank you for the thought provoking article, RRRA.
I do not agree with McCain about the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy because I believe it is unconstitutional.
Again, the government should not be in the business of determining moral and social issues.
So you are not a social conservative or at least not one that wants to impose their morality on others. Good for you! Yes, “Don’t ask, don’t tell” violates the equal protection clause.
Since gay people serve their country and defend our liberty, logic and fairness dictates they should be afforded the liberty to be gay without fear of reprisal.
I am a social conservative in my own personal life, but again I do not feel that the government has any business interfering in the lives of Americans.
However, this works both ways. It irritates me when one group pushes their agenda (conservatives) and equally irritates me when Liberals do it as well. If it isn’t in the Constitution, then butt out of our lives. We all have enough things to worry about.
I’m the opposite of you, socially liberal. I also agree with you that the heavy handed approach on both sides is inappropriate. We probably agree on government size as I am a fiscal conservative. Were you going to vote for Hillary? I sure was!
Fiscal conservative? Yes, I’ve heard of those species. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THOSE PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT?
Sorry, it just irritates me when the party that is supposed to have fiscal conservatives do a piss poor job. We haven’t seen one in 8 years from my perspective.
I digress!
I voted for Fred Thompson because I liked him better than McCain, Romney, and Huckabee. (It’s not like we had a stellar selection to choose from again.)
If it was a choice between Hillary and Obama, HELLO HILLARY!!
Everyone should have a place in the sun. Well said RC.
Republican Chick is a loyal NQ regular with sterling credentials. she is very helpful in many other forums and knowlegeable too, i would say.

San Francisco eh? Excellent! The left wing latte drinkers who support Opampers must be pissed! Excellent!
OMG…I heard a collective O-BOT Shreik from California…chuckle…The lights in my house just blinked…
The Examiner is no longer the paper of William Randolph Hearst, That Examiner merged with the SF Chronicle (affectionately known as the comical). The new Examiner is an independent newspaper privately funded. It clearly divides news from editorial content and its editorial content is generally better the Chronicle.
The Chronicle, as are most mainstream newspapers, downsizing, and the editorial staff is shrinking. Except for a couple of commentators, both left and right, most of the editorial content of the Chronicle lacks depth. The Examiner on the other hand publishes a broad spectrum of syndicated columnist from both sides, and provides a daily nice contrast of competing opinion.
The editor at large of the Examiner has libertarian leanings. One nice touch, the editorial page gives daily prominence to a quote of the 1st Amendment.

Tweet tweet goes the birdy, tweet tweet.
Why are we even talking about this ?
Obama cannot be trusted when it comes to gay issues.
Nobody knows what he really believes in, but since he needs black evangelicals, he IS anti-gay.
We’ve already established that.
It’s the fact.
http://direland.typepad.com/direland/2007/11/obamas-anti-gay.html
Obama does not care about anyone, he is in love with himself. He is Barack “We don’t need the people, we just need their checks” Obama after all.
A couple of things. I’ve worked for both Repubs and Dems over the years, and they were both consistent in hiring the best people for the job. I can’t prove there was no discrimination, but one thing about political people is they want to accomplish something, and also want their, uh, flanks protected.
Also, I recall reading that Kolbe went to McCain and was about to admit he was gay, and McCain said, “I know what you want to tell me, and it’s never mattered to me.” He worked his heart out for Kolbe knowing Kolbe was gay.
Finally, the Blade endorsed Clinton in the primary. It is probably because of Obama’s alliances with McClurkin and Meeks, but I am just speculating.
CHRIS MATTHEWS CAME FROM THE EXAMINER. HOW GREAT IS THAT! I AM ONE HAPPY GAY OLD FART. SCREW MATTHEWS AND THAT WHOLE CREW OF OBAMABOTS.
Rock On!!!
The Examiner and Rezko…my, my, my. Things are looking up.
Obama is definitely less of a friend to the gay community than McCain/Palin. I have heard many reports of Obama refusing to attend gay pride parades or functions. And there is a great article about Obama going on the gay-bashing tour in the bible belt, to court the evangelical votes.

I don’t think so but I will get my daughter a Arabic speaker to give it a listen. SHe will be able to tell us.
I don’t know but I have heard and seen some videos translated by Muslims for peace and Jews before and all I can say is that iof more Americans knew what these folks are taught about Israel…You would be sickened…Truly.
Here is just one tid bit…Most Muslims are taught that Jews NEVER LIVED IN ISRAEL AND THAT THE TEMPLE MOUNT IS THE RUINS OF A ROMAN BARRACKS. They are taught this to deny ANY historical claim Jews have to Israel….This is one of the reasons Christian Evangelicals have aligned with Jews. This is also why in Black Liberation Theology the ethnic identity of Jesus is changed and he is no longer Jewish…That is the MUSLIM INFLUENCE…It is a strange evolving synthesis this fascism of Barky’s
Holy crap. I have been thinking about this myself. That is some scarey shit.
REZKO S-I-N-G-I-N-G OFFICIALLY:

Feds ask to strike Rezko’s October sentencing
By Natasha Koreckion October 6, 2008 5:28 PM |
Federal prosecutors just asked a judge to strike Tony Rezko’s Oct. 28, sentencing — acknowledging for the first time they are undergoing discussions with the political fund-raiser.
That could be good news for Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama, since the previous sentencing was likely to bring unfavorable publicity about his former fund-raiser just days before the election.
In a motion filed hours ago, Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar asked a federal judge to set a status hearing in the case in December, saying it was something the government and Rezko agreed on.
“The parties agree that the Oct. 28, 2008 sentencing date, as well as dates related to sentencing filings should be stricken while the parties engage in discussions that could affect their sentencing postures,” Schar wrote.
The Sun-Times first reported Rezko’s possible cooperation in August. Last week, sources close to the investigation told us the feds were in the process of vetting information from Rezko.
—————————–
Curious how this could be “good for Democratic nominee”. If Rezko’s singing then Obama is toast.
What he means is that Biden would step in if Obie is elected. Caca!!!!!!
I asked Heidi Li about this before the Convention. I respect her interpretation as a real law professor. Her answer: It’s murky, but up to the DNC to decide. Biden would not automatically fill in as the nominee unless the DNC wants him to do so.
Maybe this would explain Pelosi’s & Reid’s behavior? Supporting Barry, full well knowing that after the election results, he would either resign before taking office or prosecuted in some way? Then their friend Dean can put them up as Pres & Vice Pres?
Interesting idea?
UH, I don’t think it works that way. Once the election has been held and a winner has been determined, should something happen to the President-elect, I believe the VP-elect becomes the President-elect and assumes the office of President on 1/20. Presumably, the VP office would be vacant until the new President selects a new VP.
I did a quick check at http://www.constitution.net and found the legal answer. The 20th Amendment (which moved the start of the Presidential and Congressional terms from March to January) states, in Section 3:
If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.
As best as I can tell*, if Obama is indicted at any time after Election Day until Jan 20 and forced to abandon the Presidency, Biden will step in as President-Elect. (Should something also happen to Biden between Election Day and Jan 3, then we’d be in for a Constitutional crisis. Bush remains the legal President until Jan 20, but a new Congress would organize on Jan 3 and, after organization, would then have to take up the matter of choosing a new President.)
*Presumably, Congress never imagined the possibility that anyone could be elected to the Presidency if he/she faced possible criminal charges.
Berg has it in depth at his website on the constitutional crisis…obamacrimes.com
Burnt to a crisp and buttered on both sides even!
Keep up with Rezko news on the Chicago Sun Times
“Eye on Rezko” blog.
Quoting the Chicago Sun Times
“In a motion filed hours ago, Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar asked a federal judge to set a status hearing in the case in December”
Which means it’ll be after the election!
Don’t get your hopes up either as another article states that the feds are looking into Gov. Blagojevich’s home renovation. Let’s pray they’re also looking into the connection with Obama.
Deep Truths-
Rezko might be singing about the governor of Illinois….
The sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 28th, but now delayed. No sentencing before the election. That is good for Obama because it delays any more trials as well.
Do you think they’d indict a sitting President or just do the coverup?
I used to relish in the fact that eventually the truth would come out about Obama and all who judge me will see the truth.
Now I think that the truth will never come out. If he lsoes, he will disappear and no one will care to tell you why he lost. If elected, they will cover it up and we won’t know until after his term is done, if we ever know.
I cannot believe the Government secrets. We have always had them of course, but this year it is so blatant like, we are not telling you the secrets you want to know because we don’t have to.
Can any Arab speaking NQ’ers answer Sowsear’s question? No trolls please.
It will take me 2 hours.
My daughter is still out at the University. I will get her on it as soon as she walks in the door.
I am pretty sure that this is not correct though. I have listened to arabic for years and the words do not seem to juve.
I agree, the translation does not sound correct.
I hope Rezko doesn’t end up dead before he can talk. I’m not insinuating anything but you know how these accidents can happen!!!!
I’m sure that snake has aske for protection for him and his family. He will probably, at some point, vacate America for safe haven in Syria. Just sayin’.
He must be in segregation and highly protected. He might be in a secret secure location even. I would not worry. If anything did happen it would not be hard to figure out who would have the motive to harm him.
Yeah, like the media would report that. More like, Rezko who?
Oy Vey!
Obama awarded Illinois grants to relative’s group
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As a state senator, Democrat Barack Obama awarded $75,000 in government grants to a Chicago social service organization led by a rabbi who is also his wife’s cousin, records show.
In 1999, Obama arranged for $50,000 for adult literacy and counseling services offered on Chicago’s South Side by a group called Blue Gargoyle. A $25,000 grant for the group’s youth services followed the next year.
The group’s executive director when the grants were awarded was Capers Funnye, a South Side rabbi and Michelle Obama’s first cousin once removed.
news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081007/ap_on_el_pr/obama_legislative_grants
Are you suggesting there were funny capers going on?
Not “suggesting”, no. Try for something more definite than that.
rabbi who is also his wife’s cousin, records show
There is a joke in there somewhere.
Yid with a Lid says the rabbi cousin…aint no Rabbi…in other words the guy practices a heretical form of judaism and is radical…check it out on his site yid with a lid

In the interview Mac does not necessarily give the answers that GLBT people (and hetero friends/family of GLBT people) might want to hear and that makes his answers credible. We know if it was Opampers giving the interview it would be what they wanted to hear but have no meaning.
The Advocate did an article last month about Obama. It was my opinion that article was completed fabricated. It was “perfect” and every single doubt we had about the guy had a detailed answer about how great Obama has been to the community. I saw through it immediately.
BARNEY FRANK SAYS ATTACKING FANNIE MAE SUB PRIME LOANS IS “RACIAL” ATTACK!
http://poorrichardsalmanac.biz/
Barney Frank gives gays a bad name. Disgusting asshole. He doesn’t give a shit what happens to this country,
I’d be disappointed and disillusioned if he didn’t say that!
At least he is being consistent with the “everything is racist” mantra of this election season. It won’t amount to a hill of beans though, crying wolf and all.
OH BROTHER!….SHEEESH!
O’REILLY IS GONNA LOVE THAT…
If Obama is elected, would he be our nation’s first bi-racial, bi-sexual president?
I suppose so, but he would also be the first asshole.
I know Perry would say, ‘the second asshole’.
That would make the democrats hemorrhoids then.
You all are funny!
John McCain is the genuine article.
Barack Obama is a chameleon who will say anything to anyone without hesitation.
Sadly, the American public seems to be in the mood to trust a chameleon this go-round. They like hearing what they want to hear and are too lazy to look beneath the hype. Just like lemmings following each other off the cliff, we are preparing to elevate a weak, untested socialist to the highest office in the land.
I fear for the future of my country. We have lost our ability to differentiate between shallow hype and true substance, and we are going to pay a dear price for it.
Yes and no. Many of us can differentiate, but remember Obama has been getting unfair help from the MSM and during the primary from the rigged process. What we need to fear most is the loss of an objective Fourth Estate. If they were objective I don’t think you would not be worrying so much right now as Hillary would be running against Mac in a fair fight.
Correction: If they were objective I don’t think you would be worrying so much right now as Hillary would be running against Mac in a fair fight.
Just a reminder,Gretawire on Fox will be interviewing Palin tomorrow night at 10:00p.m. Should be a good show…Greta is always fair..
I love to listen to Sarah, she’s so down to earth.imo
Tomorrow is debate night. Greta said Wednesday, I thought.
Yes, Palin on Greta on Wed…send or post questions to her at gretawire.com that you want her to ask Palin
McCain is many ways appears to be ambivilent towards gays. As in having no intense negative feelings about them. Obama on the other hand, has all this resentment and anger and emotion right under the surface that just doesn’t feel right.
I can’t tell you what it feels like from a gay perspective, but I know that as a female, I’d rather deal with ambivilence then the kind of barely suppressed hatred coming from Obama.
McCain and Palin have gay friends, associates, employees. Obama has just issues.
Please share that is the Gay community. That was exceedingly well put.
I think everyone here should hang in there and understand that they are being manipulated by the press as far as the polls, etc. The bottom line is that this is AMERICA and AMERICA is not going to put someone as nuts as Obama in the White House. No way. He’s just too far to the left, and has too many associations with both domestic, and foreign, terrorists who want this country to go down. I have faith in my fellow Americans that we all love this country enough to stop Obama from his plans to sell us out to his friends in Arab countries. Please let’s all just remain positive and do the best we can to get the truth out there. Every day that I talk to people voting for Obama it’s BECAUSE they have NO idea who he IS. Today I had two people in my office who had never heard of ACORN. Can you imagine? They’re voting for McCain now.
This is right in line with Mac’s pattern. He comes from behind and never gives up. Just think of where he was last year. No campaign money to speak of, dead last and still he just kept on coming…
For all of the gay people wondering….I am in the film business. ALL of my friends are gay and I consider myself Bi. I can’t imagine voting for Obama. The hate is there. Period.
Here’s my question: Why does Obama hang out with the creepiest creeps and the dirtiest dirtbags yet refuse to be photographed with someone like Gavin Newsome?
Next time your Obamabot friends start at you, ask them this and see what they say?

You are right on. Creating and executing law is very much like creating and executing business contracts between publicly held companies. Positions have to be clearly stated going in because between the clear stands that each negotiator starts with is a place to look for compromise and common understanding.
You don’t always get everything you want in every piece of legislation but knowing where the principals stand afford you the opportunity to identify and get what you can when you can.
It all starts with trust.
This weird thing keeps happening when I try to post with a link to a blog from New Zealand that has some great expose work on Hussein Obama’s past…maybe if I write out the URL and don’t make it live, it will work. Here’s the link (but not live) you’ll have to put it together and place in in your browser to get there:
www dot new zeal dot blog spot dot com
Yeah! It worked.
Thanks for this link – it has a post in there I can use for a piece on which I am working. Cool!
repost for perry and his hate of republicans. Also perry you paint EVERY republican as evil, do dems do no harm? I am a dem but i do not buy into the partisanship of either side. You probably still chuckle and watch Keith O.
Perry should also mention that Republicans controlled congress while Bill was President.
I am no fan of what that congress did to Bill and the witchhunt that happened. But with Bill triangulating and pubs like Mccain working with him we had a bipartisan success in american government.
However, that is more proof obama will tip the scale to corruption.
Bush took over with pubs controlling congress. It was a wreck, though i cut Bush more slack than a dem like perry ever would. I am a dem and think he was bad but he also faced huge challenges, and i think Iraq will go down as a brilliant success when history closes on it. Not to mention Bush has done amzing work on aids. Alot of Bush hate is hype. Imagine if we would all have stayed united in the war on terror and Iraq?
My point is we need a balance of power. Bill Clinton is in no way responsible for ALL of the good that happened under his lead. Just like bush is in no way to blame for all of the bad.
If Obama has a mandate from a dem controlled congress our country and rights as we know it are toast.
Here, here!
Now is not the time for anyone to hate Republican or at least they should hide their disdain. Mac is the only thing standing between us and a Ohitler regime. Republicans, Democrats and indy’s must work together for country!
Still Wishing you were still swimming with the fishy’s in a azure ocean Rev Amy?
great points. As The Big Dawg; X and Y you know. Obama? not.
LOL – uh, yeah. Though as you will see below, it is my family that is giving me fits at the moment in their Obama-can-do-no-wrong love fest. Blech.
OK. I just have to add this. I got the following from my sister just a few minutes ago about Obama: “But since you mention it, he may not be a friend to GLBT, but neither is he an enemy, as far as I can see.”
I responded: Then you are not looking. I have told you a hundred times that HE HANGS OUT WITH ACTIVELY ANTI-GAY PEOPLE. He took Donnie McClurkin around SC with him, a man who claims gays can be cured. One of his CLOSEST friends, The Rev. James Meeks, is an ACTIVE ANTI-GAY hate monger. Obama asks Mayor Newsome of San Fran to host a fundraiser for him, then will not allow Newsome to have his photo taken with him. I have sent you a number of instances in which Obama has used anti-gay people IN HIS CAMPAIGN. And NONE of these things say anything negative to you abt him? Wow.
Rev. Amy —
Here’s my gut feeling, I’d like to run it by you.
Obama’s tendency to recoil at being photographed with or interviewed by Gay leaders may indicate a closeted situation in terms of his own sexuality.
In my experience, hetereo men (like my husband who is an artist), men who are completely secure in their sexuality have no problem interacting with Gay people.
I’m just wondering about your take on it.
Hmmmm…Don’t forget Barky is 1/2 African tryin to win over the AA’s…and AA mainstream culture is not very pro gay…know wut i mean?
Barky’s inner cracker may want to…But like I’ve been sayin…chuckle…
OBAMA HAS A SERIOUS CONFLICT WITH HIS INNER CRACKER
Susan – don’t know if you’ll see this or not, but I was wondering that VERY thing myself today. That maybe he is afraid for reasons other than just the political. Ironically, Newsome isn’t even gay, but that he is so closely associated with gay marriage is not in dispute. So, yeah – I wonder if he is hiding something, too.
WCA, and I think the pander part is in there, too!
This was PART 2 of a post I tried to post earlier in this thread but I can’t find PART 1 ???
I came across that today while browsing the web.
So here we have on a pro Obama website the statements that McCain is AGAINST legislating a Constitutional ban on gay marriage and AGAINST repealing Roe vs. Wade!
And they think that’s a bad thing?
Sorry about that folks!

THANKS VINCE….I sent the link to my twin brother…Who is GAY and drinking the Koolaide…( sigh )
i think you guys are fair minded and this republican welcomes you to vote against obama with us. the country is at risk and it is not acceptable to have barack obama as our president. mccain is a fair man and will work for all americans.
Fantastic Article! Beautiful video. It’s said there are two ways to bring light into this world, one is to be the candle. The other is to be the light that reflects the candle. America’s candle faded greatly on Sept 11…We lost many that brought love and light into the world. That sacrificed all they had to give. I will never forget.
