The Bill Ayers Who Obama Has Been Close to For Over Two Decades

All of you regular readers know all about Barack Obama’s extensive ties to William (Bill) Ayers, for over two decades — probably longer since the two lived about a block apart in New York City while Obama was at Columbia University (he graduated in 1983).

Besides their long political and social ties in Chicago — Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn hosted Obama’s first political fundraiser — it is of the highest importance that more people learn that it was Bill Ayers who hired Barack Obama as chairman of the $50-million Chicago Annenberg Project, which Ayers designed as a “real life” vehicle of his radical views of public education.

Now, here is the video that, for the first time, gives you a more complete and terrifying portrait of the kind of person who Bill Ayers is. Every voter must ask if we want a president who has a longtime social, political and professional business relationship with such a person:

It is important to remember that Bill Ayers was born into a highly affluent and influential Chicago family. Ayers’ father, Thomas Ayers, was the head of Commonwealth Edison and moved among the most powerful political and social figures in the city. Bill Ayers owes much of his status and easy influence in present-day Chicago to his father’s legacy.

Thanks to Matthew Weaver’s important research and writings, we now have further evidence of Barack Obama’s network of alliances with radical groups such as Acorn and Socialist parties like Chicago’s New Party, via the NP’s own mid-1990s newsletter in which it endorsed Obama after demanding that Obama sign a contract promising adherence to the NP’s goals and participation in the NP’s programs:

Barack Obama

Barack Obama is running to gain the Democratic ballot line for Illinois Senate 13th District. The 13th District is Alice Palmer’s old district, encompassing parts of Hyde Park and South Shore.

Mr. Obama graduated from Columbia University and promptly went into community organizing for the Developing Communities Project in Roseland and Altgeld Gardens on the far south side of Chicago. He went on to Harvard University, where he was editor of the Harvard Law Review. He graduated with a law degree. In 1992, he was Director of Illinois Project Vote [ACORN], a voter registration campaign that made Carol Moseley Braun’s election to the U.S. Senate much easier than it would have been. At present, he practices law in Judson Miner’s law firm and is President of the board of the Annenberg Challenge Grant which is distributing some $50 million in grants to public school reform efforts. [THIS is same group we know as the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) that was founded by Bill Ayers. Ayers also got all the fundraising for the group, and hired Barack Obama as the CAC's chairman.]

What best characterizes Barack Obama is a quote from an article in Illinois Issues, a retrospective look at his experience as a community organizer while he was completing his degree at Harvard:

“… community organizations and organizers are hampered by their own dogmas about the style and substance of organizing. Most practice … a ‘consumer advocacy’ approach, with a focus on wrestling services and resources from outside powers that be. Few are thinking of harnessing the internal productive capacities, both in terms of money and people, that already exist in communities.” (Illinois issues, September, 1988)

Luckily, Mr. Obama does not have any opposition in the primary. His opponents have all dropped out or were ruled off the ballot. But if you would like to contribute to his campaign, make the check payable to Friends of Barack Obama, 2154 E. 71st, Chicago, IL 60649. If you would like to become involved in his campaign, call the headquarters at (312) 363-1996.

Just as Bill Ayers owes much of his standing to his father’s power as an industrialist in Chicago, Barack Obama owes much of his standing, first in Chicago and now nationally, to the doors that Bill Ayers opened for him.

That Obama must distance himself so frantically from his long, close relationship with the terrorist must be amusing, privately to Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn. They are thinking that it is they who will have the last laugh, as the man who secretly represents their own interests — far more than he does that of most Americans — takes over the White House and becomes the most powerful man in the world.

PARAPHRASING BILL AYERS:

So yeah man, we like blew a lot of shit up cuz it was damn groove and we got the hot chicks and hot guys who were diggin it.

Cuz lets face it man, who wants to go to vietnam and like kill all those poor people when you can wear groovey clothes and hang out in parks and listen to music and smoke a bowl.

So we were like fuck it man, lets learn how to make bombs and shit and blow shit up.

And somebody said but hey man what about the pig’s kids and the parents man, and we said screw em! Kill em! Stab em with a fork too! Far Out!

Then the war ended and all those people who were just against the war and didnt really want to destroy capitalism and replace it with socialism like i did were like hey man, screw you blowing people up is not groovey, later man.

So i realized then that i wasn’t going to bring down capitalism with bombs, that i had to destroy it from the inside and i realized that what was true in 1930’s was true again…if you control the minds of the youth you control the future!

So i decided to go into education and influence the kids so that we could bring about the socialist revolution since nobody really liked bombs.

Ofcourse i would make gingerbread cookie houses in front of the stupid journalists while i poisoned the minds of the kids through my teachings and one day, one day i would have my mansourian candidate, yeah man so what if i had to ghost write his first book since he kinda sucked and was just an empty suit…it was a small price to pay to get the puppet set up.

So after many years now here we are my plans to destroy capitalism are at hand and i’ll be damned it didnt take bombs just a lot of careful planning and a lot of dirty politicians. Groovey!

This is a really powerful video. It gets at the core problem with BO: If he did not know about this stuff, or did not think it a problem, or still does not get that it is a problem, how is he going to be able to optimally protect the people of the US from all the foreign and homegrown terrorists who want to keep doing this stuff here?

I don’t think he has a credible answer to this question.

Re the video viewing experience: I think only those viewers who are pretty familiar with the images in this video will be able to follow it. Cutting out to nonWeatherpeople bombings is, for those without the narrative already pretty firmly in mind, confusing, and maybe even misleading. So I would suggest that labels like SPAIN 2006 (or whatever) be put onto those cutouts, to keep it clear.

Once that is done, this ought to go viral if it can. Who did it?

AMerica deserved Obama. I hope he does get elected and try to turn this country into a communist country. I think it would be a good lesson for America; maybe people will finally appreciate this country and not be so lazy and apathetic. I agree will Michelle Obama that Americans have empty souls. People with empty souls are easy to manipulate.

After days of watching in silence, McCain calms the crowd at a Minnesota town meeting.

“I want everyone to be respectful. And let’s make sure we are, because that’s the way politics is done in America.”

Tells one supporter who says he’s scared of an Obama presidency: “I have to tell you, he is a decent person, a person that you do not have to be scared [of] as president of the United States.”

After a woman calls Obama “an Arab terrorist” McCain interrupts to say: “No, ma’am. He is a decent family man with whom I happen to have some disagreements.”

http://thepage.time.com/2008/10/10/stop-the-presses/

You know I really want to give McCain my vote but tell me is he some kind of a dam idiot or is it that he does not want to win this thing, I can’t believe this man, Palin is working her heart out for this and he comes with this nonsense and just sucks the life out of everything, what the hell is wrong with McCain for god sakes man geez.

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-10-10 18:07:40

he is stuck in a hard place… anything he does is spread and ripped apart in the MSM. they have been viscious covering this today, and yesterday, going after McCain.

i also think that things like *arab terrorist* and *kill him* are going a little far…

that is the type of thing that happens at obama events. we are better then that. :O)

he needs to go after obama hard on judgment and his relationships, but crazy slams, etc. weaken the argument.

Comment by PamFlorida | 2008-10-10 18:49:21

The incident at the McCain rally was peculiar. Nothing like that has ever happened at his events before.
I question who these people were. How hard is it to put on a McCain t-shirt and attend a rally? Obviously, the Obama campaign had nothing to do with it, but there are some extreme devotees of his who take it upon themselves to make trouble.
When Sen. Clinton was running, the signs in my yard were stolen repeatedly. I recently put a McCain-Palin sticker on my car, the next morning my car had been defaced with curses and spray paint.
It seems to me that their time would be better spent campaigning for a candidate than behaving so viciously.

Comment by mimi | 2008-10-10 20:24:51

I agree with this. These people could be ‘agents provacateurs‘. The goal being to stir up ugly public displays that will provoke sympathy for 0zero and make people dismiss the Ayers stuff.

I don’t trust 0bama. He plays with a stacked deck and deals from the bottom.

Anything’s possible with this jerk.

Don’t underestimate him — given the circumstances he should be behind 20 points in the polls. Remember that he is a military man and he thinks in terms of tactics and strategy. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised with the velvet glove-iron fist strategy in another week or two.

That video is FANTASTIC!

Comment by Lynda | 2008-10-10 18:09:45

I understand what you are saying. I wonder though if McCain is getting worried about violence starting that could be blamed on him? I don’t really know but his words do seem out of sync with his commericals.

Maybe its a god cop bad cop routine, Palin being the bad cop. I’m sure there are valid reasons for anything you are observing.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-10-10 19:23:36

That is the traditional role in campaigns. The candidate for president can appear above the fray while the VP goes for the jugular. The media understands this. After all they criticized Lieberman for staying above the fray and eschewing the traditional role of attack dog. But now they are pretending to be shocked – SHOCKED!! – that Palin is playing that traditional role. What a bunch of liars.

As for Ayers and Dohrn. Is anyone else thinking how ironic it was that Patty Hearst was the one who was made to pay the price for their crimes?

Comment by SJ | 2008-10-10 18:15:51

That is the point if he is telling people OB is decent then why the ads, why tell people he is not ready. As for the violence if Obama does not win well if he does is the majority of white America going to sit back and accept it?

We don’t know what will happen, there may be some that feel they cannot accept Obama as president what then

Not really, Lynda, Mcain is attacking his character and judgment for his associations over the years, he is not calling him an arab or encouaging anyone to kill him. I think it’s a matter of a couple of people getting caught up in the last throes of the campaign.

Comment by For Impartial Journalism | 2008-10-10 18:37:20

Here’s the thing — the MSM are hitting him hard due to a couple of people yelling “terrorist” and one cameraman than got called, maybe, the “N” word.

Obama is making noises at his rallies that McCain/Palin crowds have a “mob mentality”.

We should all be able to figure out that the next attack will be that all of McCain’s supporters are racists as “mob mentality” brings to mind the KKK.

McCain can’t afford that. I think he is smarter than his own campaign people and he is making a pre-emptive maneuver.

He does run the risk of looking weak but he may also come off looking “honorable” — especially in the eyes of independents who really do not like negative campaigning.

We can only wait to see if his strategy works.

Comment by Kal | 2008-10-10 19:28:28

Guys,
I got to tell you I am beyond frustrated. I was at the Waukesha, WI Town Hall Meeting that has gotten a lot of press because of the guy who got up and said he was angry. Most of the response to the guy was because he was funny, odd, whatever. The crowd obvious doesnt like Pelosi and Obama so when he said they were socialists the crowd cheered. Big deal. The thing that frustrates me the most is this: are they reporting about the woman who is president of a down syndrome support group who got up and thanked Sarah for inspiring people who have children with special needs and asked how she would be an advocate for them and the incredible value it would be to have her and John in the WH(while holding her own down syndrome child, not a dry eye in the place) or the african american man who got up and said he had received more “ass whippings” from Obama supporters for supporting McCain and pleaded with JM to fight for him and us, or the Iraq war veteran who got up and expressed his disgust at Obama talking about our troops destroying villages and killing innocent people when he saw how our troops would go on their off days to the orphanges and care for the children and then he turned and introduced his son, a young man in a wheelchair that had been one of those Iraqi orphans and when he had heard that he would be sent off and probably left for dead he knew he had to do something so the military and the government got the child out of Iraq and now he is being raised by one of our vets. There was not a dry eye in that place and my wife and I left inspired and hopeful, I had to go over and thank him. I am tearing up now just thinking about it.

To see this event being mis-characterized in the media has been beyond frustrating it has been heartbreaking.

I worked in New York at a time when terrorists were attacking oil companies. I worked for Gulf + Western, which made a number of products — Brown paper, Consolidated Cigars, Paramount Pictures, Simon & Schuster Books — but no oil. But that didn’t stop these blockheads from phoning in a bomb threat. If you’ve never walked down 39 stories wondering whether or not the building whose stairwell you are in — with people pushing behind you — is about to explode, I hope you never experience it. I can’t look at any of the tapes from 9/11 because I can imagine those moments if only on a very simplistic basis.

Bill Ayers and his nasty vulgar wife are not worthy of the privilege of living in America. Their citizenship should have been stripped and they should have been dropped in the middle of Havana without a penny to their names. Power to the People? Yeah. I bet they wouldn’t have lasted a freaking week!

Yeah, if you wanna see how these revolutions and revolutionaries “for the people” usually end up, I suggest you read Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler. Story about Stalins blood purge. Excellent.

Also, why is it always the idiot who comes from a wealthy background who wants to supposedly fight for the underprivilaged and tell the underprivlaged how they should live and what is rightous? These people have no clue what it is like to work with their hands, wake up every morning go to work, support a family and try to live a decent life. Yet, these elitest’s want to fight for us? I say no thank you, we can fight our own battles without your psychodrama. For Ayers and their ilk, it’s really not about anyone else but themselves, they are just to stupid to know it.

Amazing how McCain has to do all of these things to satisfy obama supporters who have no problem what so ever making death threats, threatening to post your personal info on line, harassment. So if McCain is responsible for how his supporters feel. Then Obama should be responsible for the that college student hacking her account. Simply amazing. When Obama deemed it necessary to state the whole if you bring knives we will bring guns comment…then telling his supporters to get in people faces.

Just unbelievable. No one is making him be accountable for his supporters words. He gets away with just about anything and everything and I am SICK OF IT. I have been called all kinds of names from his supporters, paid bloggers and surrogates… From war mongorer to a Ni^^er from a bot who actually had the balls to say he was a paid blogger.

If people intend to run scared because someone might call them “racist” instead of fighting they deserve a Obama presidency. I am not going to go through four years of him and his supporters. Its time to stop playing footsies with them and fight fire with fire. I am furious about this crap because NOW its important. There is to much at stake to be worrying about Obama supporters feelings and I am tired of people catering to that fraud.

Exactly! This makes me even more scared if Obama wins! We’ll all have to run around defending him. He does not keep us safe – we will be charged with keeping the messiah safe. It is so tiresome.

That CBS reporter who wrote about Obama’s rude staff and plane smelling (which will no doubt be wrongly interpreted by bots as racist) said the staff was “scared to death” to ask the candidate about his whereabouts. He hires “no drama” staffers which translates to sycophants.

Reporters described Denver during the convention as having a “jittery” atmosphere. Right now the market is jittery. If Obama wins, this man who we still don’t know, who doesn’t even know himself, will keep us jittery for four years.

Did you send ANY e-mails to ANY SuperD’s for any reason throughout the primary season? I have also gotten letters and e-mails lately that I never got before.

Comment by bemused | 2008-10-10 19:21:08

I think this may be it. I never got anything for a long time, then started getting “Dear Democrat” letters. But I was happy to finally have a chance to send them back, since I’m an Independent. I favor a slice of sheet metal, it’s heavy.

Isn’t it ironic?

It is important to remember that Bill Ayers was born into a highly affluent and influential Chicago family.

ayers parents were the ‘establishment.’ The only reason ayers isn’t doing life right now is because of his parents wealth and connections. Question for bill ayers: Why didn’t you blowup your families house? Hmmm…

ayers = spoiled rich kid
obama = spoiled rich kid

birds of a feather.

Time to treat Obama and his supporters like 1968. He is going down. This 2008 Version of Nat Turner Rebellion (or the messiah that Farrakhan states he is) is going down, one way or the other.

PUMA 2008!

Maybe they just want me to be angry at Muslims..
They have succeeded!!!

wawawa andrew.

All you guys on here whining, go volunteer and help. DO you think crying on a blog does anything but make you look like babies???

Also, i am sick of everyone acting like mac has to destroy obama’s character.
Bush did not swift boat Kerry his supporters did.

I guess everyone is to chickenshit to do it themselves, you know knock on doors make calls.

Alot of dems and conservative supporters sound like sissies. Obama does not all out smear McCain, he has EVERYONE around him and supporting him. Sure he takes shots. THe rough stuff is done by everyone else.

If we want to win we have to get organized and work. You expect McCain to magically win it all on his own with no help. No one can win an election like this that way.

Comment by Andrew | 2008-10-10 18:48:07

It is over. I’m going to get my passport and leave. If Obama can get elected then this country is useless. McCain isn’t being too smart. I would have warned about his dangerous associates instead of calling him a decent guy. This is bull. I hate it. I hate my life. Why did I have to live during this time? I get to see the fall of the United States and it is so depressing.

I’m not a troll. I’m serious. I have been on this site since March cheering you guys on against NOBAMA. Still, I can’t see a win in this for McCain. Maybe he has some brilliant strategy, but what I fear is that he is going through the motions. GOD HELP US. I wish God would strike Obama down for being so evil and corrupt. I wish somebody would pull a Grassy Knoll. It sounds bad, but I think Obama = anti-Christ, that Obama = anti-America, that Obama = the end.

I know that I have never been more scared then I am right now, well actually September 11th was the day that I was most fearful but now I feel the same way. I can’t believe that we are about to live in a communist country. I am in California so it’s basically a done deal here, I have talked to MANY McCain supporters and we are scared, scared of what an Obama presidency might bring, and it will be hell. The USA will become Communist Cuba, perhaps even worse, Instead of people swimming out of Cuba to get to America people will swim from America to get to Cuba. I talked to a Realtor friend of our family and she said that there are people inquiring about moving to Alaska, they don’t say why but isn’t it obvious, people are already preparing to leave if Obama becomes President. I always considered myself an Independent, basically voting for whoever I liked, not based on party line, but this year, I consider myself a strong conservative republican. People are being SNOWED by this guy, and I just saw this youtube video of ACORN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tkM7evLrEU
THEY ARE ADMITTING WANTING TO BRING MCCAIN DOWN, what more evidence do people need, and Obama gave them millions of dollars, yet CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS REFUSE to bring this up, why, because Obama needs to win in their eyes, they don’t care if it’s fraud that makes him win as long as he wins. Meanwhile Sarah is going through an imaginable hell and for what, for this, I bet if you asked her now if this was all worth it she would say HELL NO, they treat her like some kind of monster when all she wants to do is help America, make it a better place for us and for our kids, this is a sad day in American history, if Obama becomes President, a truly sad day

After you watch this video you can see why Acorn, Obama supporters, the media etc are acting the way they do. They are twisted souls about what is right and wrong. You can’t bring about postive change with negativity. If you don’t like the justice system, become a lawyer, be an advocate at the many local orginazations in your hometown, kids in abused homes need these all the time. What the hell does it solve to blow things up?? That’s just stupid. And killing is a SIN. I fear for these people, they obviously do not believe in God.

Comment by sayitisntso | 2008-10-10 19:17:30

The BZero campaign is angry.

The sheen is off the candidate that they so much took without checking below the glittery surface earlier this year. He was close to fooling us, but not the genuine article. But like the Vermeer fake, there’ll be some retribution.

What a difference a few months make! He is no longer attractive, his promises are disappointing the simple-minded folks who thought they could invest themselves in a candidate to save them, not knowing they have to save themselves.

Yes. Finally. And there are those who say Tom Ayers was more powerful than the Daleys. One thing is certain: Bill Ayers always felt above the law, still does, and that’s probably why he feels so little respect for it.

Comment by bemused | 2008-10-10 19:36:17

Listening to Ayers talk about how dedicated they were to their noble cause, all stiff-upper-lip about overthrowing the pigs (for a more humane system, geez), makes me envision Al-Quaida faces in place of his, they have the same conviction and the same self-referent logic.

Comment by IndieDogg | 2008-10-10 19:56:19

Something very important to keep in mind.

Let’s not get too wrapped up in debates as if they are the election. McCain will do fine because who he is won’t change. But, John McCain has never been known as an orator or a debate champion. He’s a doer who does and lets his actions speak for him.

Debates are a part of the process but Mac has never glided around a stage or glided over words like the man playing the “role” of presidential candidate on the other side, straight from Central Casting.

That’s not John’s thing.

And it doesn’t have to be.

John McCain will make a terrific president because of who he is, his character and his lifetime of service.

Barack Obama is a mistake for the same reasons, who he is, as demonstrated by his history (or lack thereof).

Past is Prologue (thanks again Joe Biden — a McCain spokesperson used the phrase today in an interview — a gift from Joe that keeps on giving).

REMEMBER:

We’re electing a President.

We’re not electing a debate team.

Stand Up! Rock The Vote!

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-10-10 20:08:10

Focus groups and polls have shown that while people say Obama won the debates, people still see McCain as much much more qualified to be president.

I don’t find it all that relevant what William Ayers was doing forty years ago. A socialist, anarchist, communist, terrorist, etc. It doesn’t matter today. That doesn’t mean I condone his activities with the Weather Underground. I don’t. He was tried under a justice system that believes prosecutorial misconduct is more of a no-no than bombing public and private buildings. We can scream until we’re hoarse that Mr. Ayers is a terrorist, that he’s a socialist, he’s unAmerican, nefarious and a zillion other things. The other side will claim he’s been rehabilitated, he’s a nice guy now, people gave him over a hundred million dollars to fund foundations, he’s an expert on education, etc. It’s a tit for tat debate that goes no where. For every allegation, there’s a counter.

What I do find important about Mr. Ayers and that is directly relevant when it concerns Senator Obama’s run for the presidency is that the two made decisions for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. This foundation was supposed to improve the Chicago school system. It was funded with over 100 million dollars. Did they use that money to build playgrounds, a gym or two, buy new text books, raise teaching salaries, add teacher aides, buy new desks, send teachers off to conferences to learn new ways of teaching arithmetic, fund reading, art or music programs, new marching band uniforms? From what I’ve read, the money was not used for the benefit of the school structures, teachers or students.

Instead they used the money to build dissension within the school system between teachers, administrators and the city and were giving money to groups like ACORN. What does ACORN have to do with education? Do they conduct classes on “How to steal a student body election in 10 easy steps?” Do they have programs to mentor children, provide reading tutors, after school programs? Not that I’ve read.

The purpose of the Annenberg Challenge was to provide funds for the Chicago schools for the learning benefit of the children. Senator Obama and Mr. Ayers decided to spend the millions on political activist groups like ACORN. That is what the McCain campaign should be hammering and hammering hard. Senator Obama and Mr. Ayers had over 100 million dollars to improve the Chicago schools and they gave it to activist groups that have nothing to do with education. Doesn’t that make anyone wonder how he would spend our tax dollars? If Senator Obama was president today, could we trust that the $700 billion Congress gave to the Treasury Dept. to fix the financial mess would even make it to the Treasury Dept? And if it did, would it be used to stabilize the credit market, buy up mortgages and buy shares into banks or would it end up in the coffers of highly questionable organizations like ACORN?

Forget about what Mr. Ayers did forty years ago. Forget that he still advocates overthrowing the government. Focus instead what he and Senator Obama did while running the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and how they spent the money. There’s really no way to counter that they spent money on ACORN instead of buying new seventh grade science books.

Comment by morganjane | 2008-10-10 23:18:03

That is a silly argument that will lose the election. I heard Dick Morris (puke) make the argument too. Bill Ayres being a terrorist is a big deal and we should care… and the RNC and McCain saying that it isn’t about Obama and ayres being close… but about education… screw that! If they wanted to win they wouldn’t pussyfoot around! Obama has they money and republicans don’t care for mccain…they could care less if he loses. They probably want him to lose because he would stop the pork… that they line their pockets with!

Ever notice how many more movies there are that depict the Nazis as evil than there are of those depicting the communists as such? Why is this? The Nazis were certainly evil and I’m happy with any depiction that projects this fact. But, I maintain that communism is just a different flavor of the same abomination (the Nazis were national socialists and the Soviets were international socialists, the Nazis were more race based while the Soviets were more class based, etc.).

The reason is that the far-left “fellow travellers” in Hollywood think that the communists had good intentions and somehow things went wrong along the way to Utopia. That’s how lots are spinning this Bill Ayers/Bernadine Dohrn connection. That’s why they don’t project the analogy to someone like Timothy McVeigh or Eric Rudolph.

We need to find a way to sucessfully portray this because they are one and the same. Ideological Übermenschen cold-blooded murderers.

Comment by Jeremiah God Damn Barack Amerikkka Wright | 2008-10-11 09:35:57

Lets not bring up the 10 million people murdered ethnicly cleansed as the Soviets moved towards berlin in WW2

Why do you not hear about it? Because communism controlls their media. THe only news that gets out is government sanctioned…

Gee doesn’t that sound familiar latley.

Obama Sanctioned news…turn on MSNBC NBC ABC CBS CNN.
