Larry,

Man, have you gone off the deep end this time. You have taken a skimpy tissue of claims and conflated them into a non-stop screed.

Trooper Wooten may not be on anyone's short list for peace officer of the year but your over-the-top accusations have no basis in reality.

But here is the rub Larry even if true they do not justify Palin's actions. She was told to stop hounding the Public Safety Officer about the issue. She was warned in no uncertain terms that she was over the line in her advocacy. She was told to cool it. Despite the warnings she continued her Vendetta against Trooper Wooten. And by the way Larry she lied about her actions.

In previous interviews she claimed her intervention was minimal and she was never warned about her actions. In both cases she out-and-out lied. And by the way Larry John Sidney McCain knew about her Trooper trouble and nominated her anyway.

I do wonder though, how in your twisted weird little universe a woman who has been threatened by a rouge cop then defends her family by cutting her protective services. If you had someone gunning for your ass wouldn't hire up some extra protection?

As a man who was way out in front on Bush lawlessness viz Valarie Plame why are you defending similar lawlessness by the Governor of Alaska? Larry, there are policies and procedures for getting rid of rouge cops. Granted these procedures are seriously flawed, police are far too willing to close ranks around bad actors in blue. Be that as it may the executive branch can not be allowed to wright up the rules by fiat.

You personally saw what happened to a dear friend and colleague what happens when the executive branch goes all out to ruin / fire / destroy someone they did not like. The first act was to smear. Odd that you, who have seen the deleterious effects of smearing on Ms. Plain would be so gung-ho to carry the slop-bucket on trooper Wooten. You have poured no end of offal on the officer in question. You have repeated the most scurrilous of lies and distorted what few facts lay on the ground until they bear no resemblance to what happened.

Trooper Wooten may not be a prince among men, he may even be a below-par officer. In 2006 he was documented as being worthy of suspension but that is long, long, long way away from being a threat to the safety of Ms Palin, Mr Palin or even his estranged wife. Palin's obsession with him was way over the line and not justified in any sane consideration of a Governors prerogatives. In short she was found to abused her position as an executive.

Now who else abused their position as an executive? Who else became irrationally engrossed in the actions of a minor official of the government, this time federal? Who dumped a vast array of scantily sourced "facts" on that official's head? That would be G.W. Bush and his victim would be your good friend Ms. Plame. The thing is in W and Cheney's warped little mind they too were justified going after Ms Wilson. They also believed that Ms. Plame was a bad actor. They also went way beyond channels to rid themselves of someone they held a grudge against. The difference is that back then Larry Johnson called Bush/Cheney out on the wretched excess of the political vendetta; now Larry Johnson tries to defend the wretched excess of yet another political vendetta. God, how the mighty have fallen.

Oh and by the way where are the Whitey Tapes hotshot? Mid October, McCain is dieing the death of a thousand cuts due to the economy, not even your bloviating on Ayres is getting any traction, Palin has gone from a net positive of 20 points to a net negative of 20 points; now would be a good time don't you think? Come on Larry, Saxby Chambliss in Mississippi is neck and neck with the Democratic challenger. Think about it, the Mississippi Senate Race is now a toss up, an easy Republican win is now a death struggle, the GOP needs that tape out; yesterday. Any one? Any one? Larry? Bueller? Any one, where is the Whitey tape? Oh I know, it was pilfered by Trooper Wooten, on order of Luis Farrakhan and Reverend Wright who stashed in a undisclosed location owned by Fanny Mae and guarded by Arab terrorists and ACORN staffers; yea that's it! Yea, that's the ticket!

One more time he is not "guilty" of anything. It is an administrative action, not a criminal compliant not even a civil action. It is just documentation justifying a suspension.

No, she stands accused of violating an ethics law big difference. Please note "accused of" only the legislature of Alaska can actually impeach and or convict her of said charges. But she is accused of breaking a real law on the books in Alaska. Right now she is an unindicted alleged perpetrator of a crime; not exactly a great bullet for the resume of someone who aspires to become the Vice President of the United States.

Sorry he was not found "guilty" of anything hotshot. Good god you can even read the heading of the PDF. It is an administrative action, it is documentation of improper behavior of a law officer. It is not even a civil action never mind a criminal complaint.

This is a document supporting the suspension of the trooper. He was not charged with any crime thus he could not be found guilty of anything. Please note there is no mention of a field sobriety of the trooper or of charges of child abuse or neglect. The theme here is poor judgment by the officer in question. The only law that was broken was in reference to a hunting permit (non-transferable) which at best is a misdemeanor.

The incidents were looked into and the trooper was suspended. He got kicked off his wildlife enforcement beat and had his weapons and cruiser pulled for 10 days. As the trooper was not an at-will employee that was that.

If Trooper Wooten was a rouge cop, then there are and were policies and procedures for getting rid of him. Those procedures are outlined in the collective bargaining agreements hammered out by by the Union and the state of Alaska. Sad to say the Trooper remains a protected employee, that is the agreement. Sara Palin was and is not allowed to foist her own ideas, notions or vendettas on the agreement.

That was the whole point of the investigation, to find out if she exceeded her authority. And the final answer was yes and no. Yes, she violated ethic laws but no she did not violate the hire/fire regulations totally.

Um, no. Numerous executive jobs in the government are protected either by civil service laws or by tradition. B.B. (Before Bush) the staffing of the Justice Department was non-political and non ideological.

The whole reason for the investigation of Palin was to see if she acted improperly. This was well before anyone knew that McCain would tap her for the V.P. slot.

The executive branch does not get a pass to fire and hire willy-nilly in either Juno or in Washington D.C. There are rules, there are procedures, there are correct, legal ways of doing these things.

The vital conclusion from the report is the fact that inaction/inattention by Gov Palin allowed her husband to in effect use her office to pursue personal aims.

Will Vice President Palin allow her husband to utilize her office/power to pursue personal aims?

Que lastima!

Count on at least another 10-20 percent of those Hillary Dems to vote Green Party. Remember Hillary also continually won the most liberal Dems like me and a number of my friends. Almost all that I know are voting Green because Obama, his campaign and backers gross misogyny, violations of campaign laws at the caucuses, threatening of Hillary Dems both online and at the caucuses, Obama's poor voting record on liberal issues, his close friendship with two extreme homophobic preachers, his decidely antienviromental voting record, his vote for the FISA bill, he and the DNC stealing votes from Hillary voters so he became, just like Bush in 2000 the selected not elected nominee.

The percentage of Hillary Dems that have caved into the victim of abuse mindset (if I appease him maybe he won't hit me again...) has remained the same since the farce of the 2008 Dem convention- right around 60%, which means a net loss for the Dem party from 2004 of around 20% (Hillary won just over half of the popular vote, so 40% of her voters means around 20% of the Dem party in whole. The more conservative Hillary Dems not voting for Obama will vote for McCain/Palin, the majority of liberal Hillary Dems not voting for Obama will vote for the strongest and most liberal (that is still Democratic) third party- Green party. Happy to vote not only their ideals but for TWO women upholding those ideals- McKinney and Clemente.

Wrong again - they actually brought the time of the report forward to reduce it's impact, because it was due to come out just before the GE. And that date was set before Palin was nominated.

That guy the "trooper" that tazzered the 10 year old, threatened to put a bullet into the Governors Fathers mouth and said and did all kinds of horrible things to his x wife and the Governors family.

Governor Palin and Todd Palin couldn't have done more to try and protect themeselves and the State of Alaska from that no good "trooper" and Trooper Wooten was and is a complete slimeball for not standing up and doing the right thing for his department and the State. He should have been fired not only for insubordination against the Governor but she could have fired the slaimball "trooper" that took the road to the bottom of the barrel but she didn't she followed the law.

It is Wooten who is the looser in all of this and the media for slanting the news. Shame on the people who are using this as a political gotcha when there isn't one.

Good post, Larry. Also some <a href="http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/10/11/troopergate-witchhunt-finale-100k-cost-to-taxpayers-no-5000-fine-no-impeachment/" rel="nofollow"><b>extra stuff here </b></a>that's not mentioned about this story.

Todd Palin had to keep asking about Wooten because the AST refuses to give information about complaints that are made against officers. So the Palins didn't know that Wooten was investigated, or had a suspension until this summer.

Sorry ericl:
YOU are the loser. You can't see beyond your irrational devotion to Obama to actually acknowledge the injustice of this investigation against Palin. You are so deeply partisan, no you are worse than that: You are so brainwashed that you can't see or acknowledge FACTS that run counter to the propaganda you internalize from the Obama main stream media and George Soros's lefty buddies like Daily Kos, Huffington, etc. Clearly that's whats going on because instead of presenting a rational argument against what has been noted in this thread you resort to hysteria and the always trusty race card. You are so far gone you cannot even CONCEIVE of the notion of Democrats refusing to support your Messiah. Must be racism, right? Here's a clue honey, many of feel our COUNTRY'S best interest trumps our political party's interest. That's why many of us reject a Demcoratic Party led by partisan hacks and liars like Obama, Pelosi, Brazille, Reid and Dean. Electing a wildly inexperienced narcissist product of the Chicago machine with no record of achievement, foolish and dangerous ideas about foreign policy, an idiotic wealth redistribution based economic policy, a history of shady Anti-American associations, a history of lying and obfuscating whenever questioned about those assocations is NOT in our country's best interest.
Actually the real loser will be the American people if and when your Messiah gets elected.
