Let me preface my comment by saying I consider myself a resonable conservative, and have voted Republican in recent years. The comments on this site have assuaged some of my fears about the extreme left leanings of the Democratic party, as I had come to believe there were no conservative or moderate Democrats left. I would not be in favor of seeing the pendulum swing too far right, and I don't believe there has been much chance of that in recent years, or anytime in the near future. I have great trepidition about the upcoming election, and I agree with your blogger who fears the the pendulum may swing too far to come back. At this time in our history, reasonable Democrats and independants will have to be the force that keeps America between the lines, as the Republicans have been "neutered". When I took statistics in college, on page one of the textbook, there was an incredibly memorable illustration of how these numbers are misleading. It was the presidential debate of 1984 and both candidates for the GE used the same claim, with vastly different numbers. I can't remember what issue they were talking about, but what I do remember is that neither actually lied. They just used different criteria, and came up with different numbers. It's easy, if you know how. And I can tell Barky knows how. He's an ends justifies the means person, and he'll equivocate his way to what he wants.
