Open SNL Thread

We’ll post the YouTube of Sarah Palin on SNL tonight in a bit (I’m sure someone is working on it). A classy lady. I didn’t realize how short she is until she showed up next to Mark Wahlberg. Anyway, great job by Sarah.

Here’s the video link: http://www.mofopolitics.com/2008/10/18/video-sarah-palin-on-snl-101808/

What did you think?

I am in California so I havent seen it yet, how was it, what did she say, and hopefully she isnt just doing one skit

Comment by trist | 2008-10-19 00:24:09

The beginning was kinda weak, but you gotta watch weekend update! I don’t wanna spoil it, but it was awesome! :)

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 22:43:19

Indeed she was good. Too short though. Tina Fey didn’t have the guts to look at her in the face when they cross each other…

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 22:44:26

Thats cause Tina Fey is a piece of crap, she already said that Sarah wins she will leave the country, should I start packing her bags now

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 22:48:25

She actually said she would “leave as in leave Earth”…

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 22:49:02

Even better

Comment by TeakWoodKite | 2008-10-18 23:01:00

The next flight to Andromeda is not scheduled to leave until 2010.

To bad the tickets are non refundable.

LOL TeakWoodKite !!

ROTFLMAO!!!

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2008-10-19 06:37:29

YOu know. If all i knew about Sarah Palin is what the news try to tell you. I might want to do the same. YOu would think someone like Tina Faye would do her research, but lets be honest. People rely on what they read or hear from the media when they make their judgement, and rarely do they have time to dig for information. True I could say she should be open minded. But let’s be honest how open minded are we really? Tina think like a lot of libs, she a female and she thinks that Palin is a threat to roe v wade. and out come the claws. And while that may not be my approach it is most people.

Comment by barry bums a ciggie | 2008-10-18 23:08:09

that’s what alec baldwin said…the dude is still here.

Comment by JozefAL | 2008-10-19 00:20:32

Actually, Alec Baldwin NEVER made the claim. The actual statement was made by Baldwin’s then-wife, Kim Basinger, to a German news magazine. Basinger’s quote was basically that SHE believed Alec’s political stance was so strong against Bush that he’d leave the country rather than suffer living in the US under Dubya.
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/leave.asp

“Then, in mid-September [2000], actor Alec Baldwin said something (exactly what he said, to whom, and when, remains elusive) which his wife, actress Kim Basinger, interpreted as a promise to leave the country should Bush win the Presidency:

Many Americans, including his wife Kim Basinger, interpreted [the snipped portion--a quote from Baldwin's local paper, the East Hampton Star] as a promise to leave. “Alec is the biggest moralist I know,” Basinger told the German magazine Focus. “I can well imagine that Alec makes good on his threat. And then I’d probably have to go too.”

Baldwin later denied that Basinger had talked with Focus, but then seemed to affirm she had, but he was adamant that HE had NEVER publicly made any such statement. And, there actually does NOT appear to be anything that backs up the allegation against Baldwin. Even the conservatives who publicly attacked Baldwin on the “claim” never had any DIRECT QUOTE FROM BALDWIN. Everything being used against Baldwin was directly attributable to SOMEONE ELSE.

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 22:44:39

correction: “crossed”

LJ: is the opening it?

Comment by Larry Johnson | 2008-10-18 22:47:25

My understanding is that Palin appears only in the opening. Having Alec Baldwin come out to trash Palin in front of Palin was brilliant. Palin showed great grace and humor. A star has been born.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 22:48:07

I wish she would have told him that HE is a pig, wait, so he trashed her in FRONT of her and she said NOTHING??

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-10-18 22:52:44

LOL
Alex called his own daughter a pig!
Disgusting..A**hole

Comment by McHope | 2008-10-18 22:53:28

She said Steven Baldwin is her favorite Baldwin brother.

Comment by VinceP1974 | 2008-10-19 08:31:56

In case anyone doesn’t know, Stephen used to be a Hollywood actor (Threesome, Biodome (i think)) like the rest of that spawn but has since become an Evangelical Christian

Comment by Larry Johnson | 2008-10-18 22:55:21

Baldwin presented himself as someone talking to Tina Fey. When informed that the lady standing next to him was actually Governor Palin he swallowed hard, looked foolish and then said, “Wow, you are way hotter in person.”

A sexist comment but what else do you expect from Baldwin. He then offered his arm, which she took, and promised to give her a tour of the studio.

She did tell him her favorite Baldwin is Stephen.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 22:59:33

Wait so she only said 1 line, nothing else?

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 23:01:22

One thing SNL should have avoided is Alec B. referring to Palin as
“that woman” even if he was assumed to be talking to Fey . That expression has other connotations and saying that in front of Palin was quite low even then.

Comment by Gal from Tex | 2008-10-18 23:30:55

yeah but she got him on the Caribou Barbie bit..GO SARAH!

Comment by Rico | 2008-10-19 02:22:37

Yeah, the same connotations as “that one”?

Comment by Noah | 2008-10-18 23:28:12

Larry, it’s a tv show. That was his line. You actually think he himself is sexist?

Comment by IndieDogg | 2008-10-18 23:54:45

I know him and yes, he’s sexist. Any more questions?

Comment by Julia | 2008-10-19 02:26:57

I think AlecshitBaldiwn beat his wife. At least time ago.

Comment by Tyrione | 2008-10-19 02:38:05

The skit was hilarious. Get over it. Satire being taken as non-fiction destroys it’s purpose.

Alex, in character, as his 30 Rock/Real-life Political Activist parody was classic; and yes when you have an attractive politician [rare in US History] people are drawn to them.

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 22:54:13

I agree LJ, she showed enormous poise and grace. She is great.

Thanks,

A.

Comment by McHope | 2008-10-18 22:49:33

I thought she did well, too. She didn’t seem nervous at all. She’s one tough lady going into the lion’s den of satire like that. ;)
At least they had the decency to spoof their own bias against her.

This week has truly highlighted the fact that the liberal self righteous left really likes to smear the Middle Class American in spite of their constant whining that that’s who they stand for.

Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin steppd right out of middle class America and middle class America loves them both.

Country First!

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-10-18 22:58:06

Those sorry asses on the left fringe that thought Joe was some kind of plant.
On Huckabee he lost his train of thought. What a regular guy!!

Comment by McHope | 2008-10-18 23:06:33

Wasn’t he great? I have to say that I had tears in my eyes when they showed his son and father at the thought of how hurtful the media and Obama have been to their family. All because a ‘regular Joe’ asked a question. Terrible.

Comment by mcpalin hill | 2008-10-18 23:26:59

McHope — Yes Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin have more class than Biden or Obama could ever hope to have. One gets fired and the other gets trashed–but class will tell.

Comment by IronMan | 2008-10-18 23:44:52

oh come on. Joe the plumber brought the heat on himself. Why did he decide to do a news conference on his front lawn? He invited scrutiny. He wanted 15 minutes and got more than he bargained for. He asked for himself to be investigated because he held himself out there.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-10-18 23:47:36

Joe instead of being star struck wanted to know the real truth and exposed Obama as a fraud.

Joe is a hero who has turned this campaign on it’s head.

You lose..Time to flush!!

Comment by Jane the Plumber | 2008-10-18 23:55:32

Don’t be an idiot ironman! Joe is an American citizen; would you like that to happen to ypu just because you dared to ask some glorified politician a question?

Comment by IndieDogg | 2008-10-19 00:13:53

Right. Heaven forbid a citizen takes a stand. What they have to say is irrelevant. Let’s find out if they’ve got any dirt buried somewhere.

I have a question. For all those who think it’s perfectly fine to send an army to attack the messenger and ignore the message. You have opinions, right? You haven’t shied away from expressing them here and across the electronic highway at full volume and full of righteous indignation.

Is there anything about your personal life you’d rather not have on CNN? Anything?

And, a follow-up question. If it were on CNN, do you think your opinion would then be worthless? Are they connected?

Let me offer up an example to make a point.

If Pete the Barber had asked Barack Obama if he’d ever killed a priest and Obama had said, “Well, only one, and I was really young and doing a lot of PCP at the time.”

Do you think the divorce record of Pete the Barber is really the story in that exchange?

Would it make the admission any less true (yes, for the example, we’re assuming it’s true and no, I didn’t say BO has killed a priest, please don’t go there)?

Do you really not care at all what your guy says or thinks or has ever done or not done in his entire life? It just doesn’t matter? You’d rather focus on a schlep asking your guy a question than on the schlep asking to be handed the keys to the World?

Saw an interview with Palin on her plane and she said she had no idea what she would be doing on SNL, had no script etc.

I thought she seemed natural and was a good sport. You Betcha She Was!

Comment by Mandelay | 2008-10-18 22:47:54

Palin has guts galore! Love it!

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 22:51:52

SNL is full of liberal nut jobs. I was at my Mom and uncle’s birthday party tonight, had a talk with my cousin who is a die hard liberal, you just can’t talk to them, they have no understanding of regular life, they just have their own liberal beliefs that will never be changed. I hope Sarah does Weekend Update, she has journalism experience so she would be perfect for that

Comment by blog force one | 2008-10-18 22:52:57

What was her lines in the skit? what did Alec say? and tina Fey ?

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-10-18 22:54:16

I guess us west coasters have to wait.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-18 23:47:45

Sarah only showed up at the very beginning and at the very end. She just took everything in stride - cool, calm, collected AND CONFIDENT. She ‘rocked’ at the end; I’m sure some of the Palin haters had no idea that should could ‘groove’ with the music. HA!

Of course the whole show was political in nature (anti-McCain/conservatives). Sarah showed great composure and grace. Actually, a lot of people in the audience applauded her (and whistled). She was the PRETTIEST PERSON on the show!

Comment by OJ | 2008-10-18 22:54:59

How was the skit? Still not on here in this time zone.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 22:55:44

Sarah has more class in one finger then Dems have in their entire body. Sarah is a true class act. I have never seen anyone has amazing as her before, Ronny would be proud

Comment by mcpalin hill | 2008-10-18 23:30:41

Saracuda — I voted today — First Republican vote ever. I voted a straight Republican ticket and damn it felt good. Everytime I pressed that screen I thought of how these people I used to love trashed women. Volunteering for McCain and loving it. Cream rises and so will McCain and Palin.

Gov Palin was standing with Lorne Michaels watching Tina Fey make fun of her on a television screen.
Alec came up, talking to Lorne, complaining that their Tina should have to go on stage with that awful woman and so on. Lorne then introduces Alec to the Gov. Alec then says she is way hotter in person and she should not have to go on stage with that Tina Fey. Gov Palin then says Steven Baldwin is her favorite Baldwin brother. Alec then walks her on to the stage. He appears first with Fey, whispers to her that the real Gov is there and she bolts off the stage. The two pass eachother. Gov Palin says she will not be taking question . But she would like to say- Live from NY, it’s Sat Night.

Comment by McHope | 2008-10-18 22:59:41

oops…Alec tells Lorne Tina should NOT have to go on with that woman.

Comment by blog force one | 2008-10-18 22:59:47

Sarah wins over everyone she meets! she most likely totally disarmed everyone in the studio as they only had a wildly distorted leftist media biased idea of who she really is !

Comment by PewL | 2008-10-18 23:36:49

I thought the song in the end was good, with the Eskimos and the guy dressed up as Todd, wearing a snow machine suit. And shooting the moose was Hilarious..Sarah danced sitting down, and looked part of the group..I thought she did well, even if she hardly said anything…She is top class /////

Comment by Texas Playwright | 2008-10-18 23:00:11

Didn’t like it at all. Hillary’s appearances were better written and funnier. This came off as mean spirited to me. Boring. Disrespectful. You want humor? Listen to John McCain’s funny speech at the Al Smith dinner–smart, classy, sharp, and gracious.

SNL, shame on you.

Comment by McHope | 2008-10-18 23:02:22

Oh my gosh, you are so right. Sen McCain was absolutely awesome, much funnier than anything on SNL in years. They truly should be ashamed, both for their treatment of Gov Palin and because they aren’t funny.

Comment by Ginger | 2008-10-18 23:08:40

Sounds like Sat=rah held her own and showed them for the jerks they are.

Comment by No Obama for me | 2008-10-19 13:05:35

McHope,

Perhaps Sarah would not do what they had written for her, that is what she said at the end and that is why she did not say much. She was awesome and classy though, very.

I hate SNL and it was very tiresome watching it after Sarah’s initial appearance. I almost gave up but I did manage to see Sarah at the very end.

How can any sane person watch that crap each week?
I see why their ratings are low. I personally won’t waste my time watching it again.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 23:02:32

Hillary is a dem, Sarah is a conservative Republican, that in their eyes is the devil, of course they are mean spirited, they hate conservatives, they are liberal a-holes

Comment by WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName | 2008-10-18 23:04:00

I didn’t like it either. The potential for a very funny skit was in the making…if they had put Tina Fey and Sarah Palin on side by side. But seems they didn’t have the nerve to do that…my guess is that TF would never have agreed to stand so close to the Guv.

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 23:10:27

I thought too that they were going to be more creative. I imagined a skit in which Palin (as Fey) and Fey (as Palin) encounter each other and have a little chat. That’d have been funny. Sarah Palin said that indeed they looked alike so much so that she used to imitate Fey (but I can’t remember what context or in what occasion/party).

Comment by KJMontana | 2008-10-19 02:57:41

That’s what I was hoping they’d do too! And they could have used a paraphrase of that old Chevy Chase line… I’M Sarah Palin - and you’re not!

Comment by Andy | 2008-10-18 23:05:42

McCain speech at the Al Smith dinner was simply amazing. It was the funniest political speech I have ever heard from anyone.
It was absolutely brilliant. One to remember !!

Comment by VMorris | 2008-10-19 09:18:17

I disagree. It showed that Sarah is taking all of this nonsense in stride. IMHO, the Eskimo rap skit exposed the public crucificion of the Palins as as the “Much To Do About Nothing” farce that it is.

I was amazed at the way Sarah came right through the screen and I saw a woman of substance before me.

Comment by pr | 2008-10-18 23:02:33

Sarah was awesome! She has single-handedly revived SNL. Predict best ratings since 1975.

Comment by NoBAma | 2008-10-18 23:03:27

There has ti be more of her during the show? no?

Comment by Tristan | 2008-10-18 23:04:29

Palin was confident and the skit didn’t make fun of her - more the fact that everyone else was embarrassed for their previous jokes. It came off well. I’m glad she did it. The resemblance between her and Tina Fey is really uncanny, especially when you see them right after each other.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 23:06:52

Sarah was raised to have respect, Obama was raised to hate America, that is the difference, Obama should look to Sarah to see what CLASS looks like

Comment by DEEGEE | 2008-10-18 23:12:14

I’m still waiting in California for it to come on. I hope it is worth waiting for.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-18 23:57:27

Tristan - there may be SOME resemblance between the two but Sarah is a MILLION TIMES PRETTIER than the plain Tina Fey. Sarah’s eyes and TEETH outshine Fey!

Comment by Judy L. NC | 2008-10-19 04:25:39

I totally agree.

I haven’t had my first cuppa coffee yet, but it kind of looked like Alex Baldwin didn’t look her in the eyes. If so, that’s a real insult. What an a$$hole!

Comment by NoBAma | 2008-10-18 23:05:20

I can see sarah doing something during the news hour, since she was a newscaster.

Comment by pm317 | 2008-10-18 23:05:53

Larry, You’re right — a star is born. The Left is thoroughly underestimating her and they will have egg on their face soon. I just shake my head at their condescending attitude. To get where she was and then now to do what she is doing, it shows she has what it takes. These armchair intellectuals don’t know much about human nature, political instincts, real hunger and ambition in a woman, the craving public has to see a very different kind of leadership. Obama missed his big opportunity because of how he has conducted himself and his troublesome history. Otherwise, the majority would have celebrated his ascent too.

Comment by WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName | 2008-10-18 23:10:09

Yes, Sarah Palin’s star is just starting to ascend. She has what it takes to be a great, great politician. I predict she will be the first woman president of the U.S. (unless barky destroys our democracy…)

Comment by VMorris | 2008-10-19 09:21:47

I too think that Sarah has a star quality to her. I was sitting there thinking as I watched. Regardless of what happens in this election, Palin isn’t going to go away any time soon.

Comment by DemFORMac | 2008-10-18 23:05:56

Alec Baldwin called her a “terrible woman” I think he wasn’t suppose to say that, I think the whole SNL cast hated her being there. That show is terrible anyway. It will just help more people from middle America like McCain/Palin even better.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 23:08:21

He actually called her a “terrible woman” for what, giving a damn about America, I wish she would have told him, “And your a terrible father”

LOL…I thought it was “horrible”….let’s all go listen again.

Comment by OJ | 2008-10-18 23:05:57

Was the skit any good?

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 00:01:28

Nope! The only ’skit’ was at the end and Sarah was shut out of the camera most of the time - when that one woman took the mic and ‘rapped’. I loved it when Sarah raised her palms/arms upward to the music; the audience cheered (or it seemed like they did). I NEVER watch SNL (since the mid 70’s - when it was REALLY good), and I was expecting MUCH more from Palin. That show is REALLY BORING and NOT funny. And, where did they dig up these unfunny people???

Comment by Kiki | 2008-10-18 23:07:14

Too short but she was good!

Comment by noproblama | 2008-10-18 23:07:38

Tina stood up for Hillary and gave her some sorely needed street cred with “bitch is the new black”.I can forgive her if she can’t vote Republican.

Although didn’t her sitcom character say something about voting for McCain? She just might be a closet PUMA.

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-10-19 06:40:39

She said she was going to tell everyone she was voting Barack, but then, once in the booth vote McCAin (her charachter said that)

Comment by NoBAma | 2008-10-18 23:10:28

I think the skit was good because it showed how the Hollywood liberals are such phonies who have no guts to spew their hate to one’s own face, but only behind their backs.
The singer Adele on the show is very good-never heard of her before.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 00:05:16

Agree NoBAma - that singer ‘Adele’ was great; her song was very tought provoking. She looked pretty shy at the end, didn’t she? I’ve never heard of her, either but I hope she makes it BIG.

Comment by Jackarooty | 2008-10-18 23:10:38

I thought the skit was funny and Sarah was great! I never thought that Alec Baldwin would ever appear on the same stage with Sarah. I’m sure everyone was very gracious to her even Tina. That, btw is show biz! Hey I wonder if Oliver Stone was introduced to Sarah. For those that haven’t seen the show yet Josh Brolin did his opening monologue and did a bit with Oliver Stone in the audience. Stone made a very nasty remark about Sarah the other night at the W opening something like her being as stupid as the real W. I wonder if she’s going to stick around for the closing credits.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 23:13:02

Why do liberals hate her so much, what has she ever done to deserve such treatment, for what, loving her country, wanting this place to be better for her kids, how can people be so nasty to someone for just loving America

Comment by typewriterstreaming | 2008-10-18 23:17:43

It makes them crazy she actually has the nerve to live her conservative beliefs.

Comment by Chicago | 2008-10-18 23:37:32

many of them hate her since she is a danger to Obama’s victory.

but look at what many liberal news agencies said about her before she was picked for VP candidate (these are all from Sarah Palin’s biography - “Sarah, How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska’s Political Establishment Upside Down”):

“She’s proceding to shatter the political mold.” - USA Today

“In her first year as governor of Alaska, Sarh Palin has plunged adead with the fearlessness of a polar exlporer.” - Associated Press

“Governor Palin ’stands out in a state that has seen few fresh faces in politics. She is untainted by government scandal and unbrudened by political debt.” - New York Times

“In Alaska, Palin is challenging the dominant, sometimes corrupting role of oil companies in the state’s political culture.” - Newsweek

“Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time on office that she is ready to be president” - Huffington Post

Now that Gov. Palin is running as VP, she’s all of a sudden a villain that must be destroyed and the same liberal news agencies above are the ones spearheading the attacks.

what caused the sudden turnaround of opinions by these liberal rags? Gov. Palin surely did not change from being the one that’s breaking the political mold. so why do they hate her so much? Even the Huffington Post stated she is ready to be president.

the illogical change of opinion by these rags are the same illogical change of opinion that many former Hillary supporters demonstrated when they started demonizing Hillary and deified Obama.

sarracuda — Daling Sarah isn’t from NYC and therefore doesn’t count to these elitists. Only the rest of the country between the coasts — you know those of us who grow the food and fight the wars think Sarah is incredible. We count and these boobs don’t.

I’m a liberal, and I think Sarah Palin is terrific. I’m voting for her.
As for Tina Fey, she was there for Hillary. I think she does a great Sarah Palin.
But notice they haven’t mocked Barky since his ascension.

Comment by Ani | 2008-10-19 01:49:05

They are hypocrites for their cowardice — if they don’t mock him as well that says it all. They are afraid to be called “Racists” along with everyone else who dares to confront ‘the One.’

That tells me they know EXACTLY how fragile and empty their messiah is.

Comment by lisa in va | 2008-10-19 09:06:57

Agreed. They can’t mock him because they are afraid of being called racist.

I thought the Sarah skit was pathetic. She was great - but the writers were chicken. Maybe they all are ashamed of themselves and therefore are still somewhat human.

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 23:18:46

Of course they are chicken, they are liberal nuts. They can publicly degrade a woman on national television, if I were Sarah, I would have brought out the Barracuda in her and kicked all of their asses. How can do to that to a Human being

Comment by typewriterstreaming | 2008-10-18 23:20:36

I enjoyed canceling HBO the other day. I told them about Maher and the woman on the other end agreed.
I threatened to have the whole thing turned off but they gave me a better discount. I did the same thing a few weeks back with The Seattle Slimes and they gave me 6 month free.
The Dinosaur media is feeling the heat.

Comment by athena | 2008-10-19 00:16:17

Seattle - We canceled HBO for the same reason. Bill Maher is constantly bashing McCain and Palin. And he is just unabashedly viscous in his remarks.

I think Sarah was great with the little time and material she had to work with…I felt SNL controlled her appearance and made it into almost a non appearance…

after the big build up…I think SNL was anti-climatic in how her appearance was handled…

and I suppose that was their intention…not to gain her any voters or real good will

btw…the rest of the show is awful…

Please, I must put to rest the “I’ll leave the country” story. Alec Baldwin never said it. Barbara Streisand never said it. That statement was made by Joe Ezsterhas the screenwriter of “Showgirls.” I know this because I was listening to KABC Talkradio in Los Angeles when he made this comment before the 2000 election. He was promoting a book he had written about Hollywood. To get attention he said two things: Sharon Stone would suck d*ck to get parts and he would leave the country if GWB won the election. Since no one cared who the hell Joe Ezsterhas was, conservative talk show hosts attributed the quote to the most famous liberal they could remember off the top of their heads.

Because of this I have serious doubts that Tina Fey made a similar comment about Sarah Palin

These are people pollsters never reach ! they are working eating or sleeping with their women and don’t have time to take calls from pollster punks! and they vote!

Saw a rally today where TODD PALIN was the speaker - at a sports/gun enthusists (sp?) gathering. The news commentator stated something about all the sports hunters being there and there were also a lot of….WOMEN. (LOL!)

One lady was there - a Hillary supporter wearing a Hillary pin - the guy asked her why she was there - “a disgruntled Hillary fan, so now you’re backing McCain”? The lady said “The last time somebody told me to get in line, I divorced him” YAHOO!!!! WHAT A GREAT LINE that lady had! She said she believes in McCain/Palin and was voting for THEM. BTW, she was an older Black lady so that made it even BETTER.

Amy - a very pregnant Amy

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-10-18 23:34:56

Well, the show is now 3/4 over, but wait she’s on the headline news. Pretty funny rap, but they’ve cut her out of most of the shot. I thought they could have included more of Palin, but hey, it gives her exposure to a large audience and she came off as a good sport.

Nothing wrong with that. I wish they’d had a skit with her and Tina Fey. Thirty minutes left. But maybe not.

Missed opportunity for SNL. But perhaps they didn’t want to give her “too” much exposure. I think it’s pretty obvious where their allegience is–strongly Democratic, regardless of the candidate.

But Palin’s got guts, I’ll give her that. Not a bad trait either! This is mostly dump on George Bush night.

I wrote a very bad poem to cure Obama-hysteria:

Obama’s mass hypnosis
makes him look like Moses

With halting rhythm
They’re drawn like moths to the flame

He instructs their subconscious
With mockery and disdain

It is not their fault
This is evil at work

Forsaking whatever brains their mamas gave ‘em
They buy hook line and sinker Obama’s promise of haven

His “useful idiots” (Lenin)
Become his minions Obamabots

“You will see a light shine through that window
You will have an epiphany and You will vote Obama” says he
They blink to themselves, but now they’re in a “we”

Though they’ve a minute flicker of rational analysis
It is soon doused by the feelgood of all of this

Their minds have been raped
Their scrutiny has been draped

Setting aside their critical thinking
They follow this unknown radical without blinking

The tingle up the leg so powerful
A militancy for Obama becomes awful

You will know disdain for you
When it shows its ugly head

It will be anything but truths
and will lead you to bad

But you shall persevere
because that’s what your papa taught you to do!
You will become a Paul Revere
And you will see Obama anew

Obama is an abuser in every fundamental way
But there is hope beyond today

He has violated your psyche
There are many more like he
And you will realize that it’s never too late
To think for yourself, his lies are not your fate

I bet his mirror has an etched image of himself from staring at it so much, holes where the staring eyes glare and admire his Global Emperor self.

He is a good hypnotist though, did you know mass hypnosis is illegal in Britain? Obama does it with panache and people are so unaware, but it’s not their fault, err, totally.

Sarah showed the world she can ROCK! I loved her moves during the rap/hip-hop tune. Tina Fey was AFRAID to stand face to face with Sarah - Tina didn’t want her ‘ugliness’ to be compared next to Sarah’s beauty. Fey couldn’t hold a candle to Sarah!

Comment by Sarracuda In So Cal | 2008-10-18 23:44:09

that’s cause Tiny Fey is an old hack, Sarah is younger, prettier, smarter, and has CLASS, and by the way, 30 Rock is the biggest piece of crap show I have ever laid my eyes on

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 00:26:07

I’ve never SEEN 30 Rock and proud to say so. Most of the stupid shows on today are just STUPID. If you haven’t seen SNL yet - Sarah comes on at the very beginning and then at the very end, so if you’ve got something ‘better’ to do in the interim, then I’d do it; the whole show was anti-Bush/McCain/Palin and the parts that weren’t anti-republicans - was JUST STUPID and incredibly NOT FUNNY.

I waited all week to watch SNL JUST BECAUSE OF SARAH and her ‘cameo’ appearance was minimal. I’m disappointed.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 00:32:10

Yes, Amy WAS great, wasn’t she? First time I’ve watched SNL since the mid/late 70’s (Gilda, Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd - people who weren’t around then SURE missed some fabulous comedy). The ending WAS THE BEST AND FUNNIEST PART, although they cut Sarah out of the picture too much - they could’ve zoomed their lenses out. At least, they showed the part were Sarah was ‘groovin’ - raised her palms/arms towards the ceiling.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 00:35:51

I would’ve loved it, too, but you never know - some older republicans/conservatives might have frowned on that and that’s probably a risk she couldn’t take. I bet if she herself DID do the rap, she would’ve brought the house down!

I know why Palin had to appear, and she was fantastic but what a worthless POS of show. Where is the parody of Michelle Obama? Keenan could certainly portray her. Perhaps a scene of her gorging on lobster and champagne while the hotel maids are starving? Oh yeah, thats not a comedy skit, its real life.

wow. not for nothing, but, over the past 8 months of being on this site, it’s amazing to see the transformation within the comments.

when the eff did everyone lose whatever sense of humor you might have had?

before you start lacing into me by thinking i’m an obamabot or a frigging troll, think again. i came to this site as a hillary supporter.

i can’t believe that tina fey is being lambasted on here - sure, she does a kick ass Palin - but what the frig?

Back in February, when SNL came back, SHE was the one with the “Bitches get stuff done” and “Bitch is the new black” speech. and ya’ know what? HILLARY’S NUMBERS JUMPED AFTER THAT! (and also, my campaign button/merch sales spiked for Hill that week with that stuff.)

So, not for nothing, give me a break.

The Palin/Fey sketches over the past few weeks AND tonight, were funny. The Weekend Update Palin Rap tonight was GREAT.

IF THEY DIDN’T PARODY PALIN… THAT WOULD BE SEXIST.

i’m voting for McCain in a couple of weeks, but, jesus H. Christ… what the frig happened to everyone on here?

whatever… knock off the bashing, because you sound ridiculous.

It’s SNL. They have scripts written for them. Palin approved the sketches she was in.

If you SERIOUSLY think that she reeeeeeeeeally was supposed to do the rap, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you.

anyway… stepping off my soapbox here, because it’s just going to turn into some wiseassed name-calling b.s.

i am not a fan of Obama. the dude makes me ill.

I’m not thrilled with McCain either, but, am voting for him.

oh… and by the way… Tina Fey DID go over to Sarah Palin at the end of the credits and greet her.

Comment by Steven | 2008-10-19 00:56:48

I think its like this on NQ, people here have vetted Obama and we are usually two weeks ahead of MSM on how terrible he is.Now i think people are starting to become frightened that Obama and Ayers socialist revolution might be upon us,the end of US military might and the end of capitalism.Half the country is getting afraid and the other half does not know what is coming.

DURING A PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN and ESPECIALLY when the film is NEGATIVE towards that ’sitting’ president. It’s just cruel and unfeeling; they could have at least waited until Bush was out of office!

poooor poooor Brendy,

What’s it like to be hypocrite?

They put out a movie about 9/11 on ABC. All the lefties got up in an uproar - unfair, unfair… Disney has still not released the Movie on DVD.

And don’t tell me to take it up with Disney.

You take it up with your own mirror.

I’m so glad I left “the left.”

my apologies Brendy.

Let me know the day GiggleHypocrite they treat uhhh, errrrr… guuhhhh, uhhhhh 57 state Obambi the same as Sarah.

Let me know the day they show him tooting cocaine.

They worship the man.

The best skit would be all of them meeting him in person.

We could all see them get down on bended knee as their false messiah annoints them with the Barack Hussein holy oil.

ohhhh golly, can’t satire “Hussein” without the left calling you a racist.

sigh… look in the mirror. If there were equal treatment I wouldn’t mind. But there is overwhelming bias by the majority liberal media against Palin.

So I don’t get the “sexist” comment. I don’t think you’re a PUMA either. The quick switch to hostility was one of the clues.

You don’t get the “sexist” comment? really? REALLY?

see, darling, if a man said “fucking chill” he’d just be a guy, maybe a bit of a tool… but apparently I’ve got “increased hostility” because I said for you to “fucking chill” and as a woman I shouldn’t use “foul language” otherwise it will come across as me having a “problem” and being “hostile”.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 01:58:30

Yeah, I know, ’sweetie’. Every high school punk goes thru the halls saying that word - it means NOTHING to them, and in public they say that ‘endearing’ word for all the world to hear - babies, toddlers, priests, pastors, little old ladies; they have NO respect for others. Maybe, JUST maybe - other people don’t want to hear that word.

Sometimes, that word CAN be funny and maybe even used effectively WHEN NEEDED - like when you’re really mad or something, but you directed that word AT someone who was not provoking you and the poster was NOT using profanity.

Hmmm….I don’t think you know what “respect” means, afterall. Maybe ‘respect’ in NJ has a different meaning than the Midwest (yeah - I know; you all are TOUGH).

Comment by gigglechick | 2008-10-19 02:17:22

awwwwww… and I have an incontinent mother who wears them, but, like you, I don’t have that info in a profile.

not for nothing, but, as someone who buys the Depends for her, I find nothing wrong with them. they are a Godsend. But, if you are embarrassed by the fact that a loved one needs to wear them, that’s your own issue.

As for being banned… how were you NOT rude to me? Just because I said “fucking”, I should be “banned”… gee… I don’t know, Hey Larry - maybe since I used a curse word in this thread, you can deduct a fine out of the $50 I donated 5 months ago.

As for ME being rude… it must be the fact that I’m PMSing… go figure.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 02:13:35

gigglechick - your parents must be SO proud of you. But then, I guess you don’t know the meaning of ‘proud’ or ‘pride’ either. Too bad.

You probably curse up a storm in front of your parents/grandparents/kids/nieces/nephews - real good role model you are!

Comment by gigglechick | 2008-10-19 02:24:27

so sorry, Brendy, but, my family IS proud of me. Sorry to burst your bubble. I would think that feeding my mother who is invalid and not able to walk is a start at being a good role model. Maybe even changing her Depends on a daily basis could be constituted as being a stepping stone to being a role model.

As far as cursing, yes, I do curse… it’s a crutch, yes, sometimes I say “good lord, this fucking shit is taking a toll on me at age 38″ and then I realize that I am glad my parents are still alive.

Maybe I do curse sometimes when I have to refill the oxygen tanks for my mother or dress her and place her in the transport wheelchair, then take her to her weekly doctors’ appointments. So yeah, sorry, if I said “fucking” — I know that’s so horrible of me to do.

And I will admit, that the other day when I blew out my knee and then had to push my mother in the wheelchair UP a 60 degree incline, yeah, I said “Fuck! This is painful, Mom!” and she said “I know. I fucking know! I love you.”

So… yeah, I guess I am just a horrible person who is going to Hell, Brendy.

Good for you for not stooping to my level.

Comment by Brendy | 2008-10-19 02:40:40

gigglechick - sorry about your Mom. Everyone is different, and I would’ve probably said ‘damn’ or ’s2it’ or something like that other than the ‘f’ word and my Mom would have NEVER said that word - sorry again; generation/religion gap there - I suppose. And, surely you know different people are raised different ways. I’m not saying your Mom is wrong or my Mom is right; just differences in the vulgarity of the words.

BTW, you should be thankful you have your Mom. I have been an orphan - lost my Mom at 11 and my Dad at 17 - for a VERY, VERY, VERY LONG TIME. Myself and my 4 siblings have turned out very well, though - thanks be to God…be glad you still have your Mom and treat her with respect. I can understand you must be under enormous pressure and I can image you feel a fair amount of anger, but please don’t take it out on others. People can disagree without insulting each other or using foul language.

And in the midst of the usual childish and humorless nonsense about the “far left librul” media and the “far left librul” Obama, I see your posts.

I agree, gigglechick. It’s easy to bash Bush. He’s the worst President of my lifetime. But I still hate the sexism that has not let up since Hillary left the race [and I was a huge HRC supporter].

I really have no problems with Palin as vp. I don’t agree with her position on abortion, but frankly I’m sick and tired of being hit over the head by the Dems with Roe vs. Wade. It’s political extortion.

I don’t agree with McCain 100% either. But I agree enough and he has my vote. Actually, when I went to the polls last week, it was a no brainer.

There was only one legitimate candidate left on the ballot. And his name was John S. McCain!

Comment by fluffy bunny | 2008-10-19 01:49:16

Nah, the movie probably sucks. Oliver Stone’s a troofer, right? I’d imagine his movie is long on nutter conspiracy stuff and short on reality. It probably is a net negative for sane voters, and would have been no matter what.

Comment by gigglechick | 2008-10-19 00:57:15

imustprotest, as someone who, after stating that I supported Hillary and is a PUMA, and after stating that I would not vote for Obama I was called a “stupid, fucking racist cunt whose vagina should fill with blood and explode”

so yeah, i’m not thrilled with the “bashing”…

but, when folks are freaking out and bashing the hell out of SNL it’s ridiculous since it’s a comedy show… AND because Palin was able to approve the scene/script ahead of time.

In my opinion.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-10-19 01:03:09

Then you’d agree that SNL has bashed Sarah Palin ever since she was put on the ticket? How much has SNL bashed Biden? Obama? I haven’t watched the show yet so I can only read these comments with the understanding that people are fed up with the MSM and the bias in shows like SNL

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-10-19 01:05:09

I should clarify, I haven’t watched tonight’s show yet because I live in California.

Comment by gigglechick | 2008-10-19 01:09:58

no, imustprotest, I would say that SNL has parodied Palin… AS THEY DO WITH EVERY CANDIDATE.

the Biden caricature by Jason Sudekis was great. It made him look like a boob during the debate.

They’ve parodied Barky — and when SNL in February called out the media as being in the tank for him, I don’t exactly feel like they were tying their sketches up with hearts and flowers for him.

Palin was parodied as AN EQUAL.

They did not lessen the blows toward her because she IS a strong woman and a strong candidate.

so… no, buddy, I don’t agree with your term of “bashing” when it comes to a frigging COMEDY SHOW.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-10-19 01:14:07

hmm….they did one show in FEBRUARY that called out the MSM. So Barry has been parodied ONCE….WOW!!! Stop the presses!!! He’s been on the scene for over a year and SNL parodies him ONCE! How many times have they bashed Palin and she’s been on the ticket a couple of months now. I agree, it is a comedy show, but it’s not balanced. Come on.

Comment by gigglechick | 2008-10-19 01:36:13

sweeeeeetie, you needed to relax. you’re going to have a heartattack at an early (i’m guessing) age if you get all frigging wound up over a COMEDY SHOW.

and no, they’ve parodied him way more than once… but, then again, you might not watch the show on a regular basis.

also, their season premiered on september 13th. they’ve had 5 fresh episodes. so, i’m thinking that you might be able to count how many times they had Palin sketches… it’s not “bashing”, pumpkin.

and since you’re a self-proclaimed “life time dem”, I’m pretty sure that you shouldn’t have as big a bug up your fanny about them as you seem to have.

Okay, pookie?

I read elsewhere where Sarah had no idea or input as to what the show would be about. I think Sarah was kind of thrown into a lion’s den - not knowing how CYNICAL or mocking of her and her party they would be. I felt sorry for her - but she showed her toughness and came out as the GRACEFUL person that she is.

The “Eskimo Rap” segment on SNL was funny as hell.

Make sure you watch it, those on the West Coast. It was Amy Poehler doing the “rap”. The real Sarah is sitting in her chair and rocking to the beat. She is defintely hipping to the groove.

Listen to the rap. It is very clever and well done. Very cool. Very Pro-Sarah.

I thought, other than the rap, Sarah’s appearance on the show was good. Very limited in the beginning, and then at the end. And Tina Fey WAS on stage with Sarah at the end, and greeted her.

All in all, a positive night for Sarah. She proved she can take a joke. And, damn, she looked great.

But, watch the rap. It’s the best part.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…

John McCain
44th President of the United States.

Comment by gigglechick | 2008-10-19 01:02:02

yes, the Rap was GREAT!!! loved the eskimo background dancers… “Todd” in his snowmachine gear. good stuff!!

and it’s a POSITIVE thing when a candidate goes on SNL and they DON’T pussyfoot around them…

it DOES show that she can laugh at herself and take a joke.

That’s too bad and short sighted of NBC. I can’t watch videos on their site (don’t have something that I need on my computer, I guess), but at Youtube, I have no problem with videos at all.

Of course, I don’t care that I can’t watch on NBC. I haven[t watched TV in years. If I want humor, I read Mark Twain. SNL is NOT in the same league from what I hear here.

The rest of the show was awful, too.

I’m in California and just saw Palin. Decent job. Hollywood is missing a big opportunity, Palin has that special something that they are always looking for in a star. If they were smart and not so jealous of her they would realize what a star she could be, if she were a democrat it would have already happened. Obama is hollywood’s old story, Palin is America’s new star.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-10-19 01:42:46

I would have been mortified to play that part. I wanted to turn the TV off SO bad, but I was afraid I’d miss Sarah.

Comment by IndieDogg | 2008-10-19 02:00:01

This was a very important and savvy move and she’s a very sharp cookie for doing it. The more people who don’t normally see her (because the MSM has a black out on actually showing her speak), who have been told she’s a grinning banshee with three eyes and a tree growing out of her head, see her and process that this is an actual person and…. gee, she doesn’t seem like I thought she would be, hum…..

Anything that makes them think and maybe, just maybe, re-think what they’ve heard, is a GOOD thing.

Smart, ballsy move.

Smart, ballsy lady (person).

I thought it was great - last week they did Obama claiming “terrorist Bill Ayers is my best friend. I am so far ahead in the polls I have no need to hide it anymore.” That was pretty bold.

Also interesting - I live in San Francisco and saw an Obama ad during the broadcast. Why is Obama running ads in California?

Comment by Tom K. | 2008-10-19 03:33:24

All in all this was a very positive appearance for Gov. Palin. She is an absolute natural. Usually when politicians go on Saturday Night Live, they’re stiff and can’t act to save their lives.

I thought the first bit was very funny, and I think Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey were both very funny. In a way they were parodying themselves too.

The Weekend Update thing was really funny and again Palin was great. Very poised and capable as an actor–even in a brief appearance. She seemed to be having a good time, and seemed funny, with it, and hip.

All in all, I think this was great PR for her. She likely erased a lot of bad impressions simply by being in on the joke and able to laugh at herself. She’ll win lots of points for this.

Comment by NewOrleans | 2008-10-19 04:34:42

Absolutely spectacular! Sarah rocked.

Between McCain’s hysterically funny bit at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner and Sarah’s appearance tonight, I think a lot more people will really see them as down-to-earth, likable people - and that will only help them get more votes. All of the Obamanuts’ complaints about them being old and angry, scary and stupid, just don’t hold up. But as usual with Obama and his freaky followers, they want you to ignore what you see with your own eyes and just BELIEVE in what THEY say.

I hope these clips get played ad nauseum all week.

I thought the sketch was funny…not hilarious, but funny. Alec’s bad acting/teleprompter reading ruined it, if anything.

But, I think Tina had some funny lines about the liberal media.

I really like Tina, and I am sad that she is getting trashed. Yes, I know she supports *that one* but…. I feel like we are going to end up hating half the country if we aren’t careful.

Hillary supporters loved her when she was pro-Hillary.

She just needs to be informed about Obama. She lives in her liberal media bubble. :O(

I don’t think they gave Sarah enough lines, and things to do. But, it was her first appearance…

Did anyone miss all the pregnant women of SNL last night? Sarah did great, but that show is far from funny to me.

I wondered if that “candidate” was supposed to be McCain? The way he held his arms, was like mocking John……. terrible.

“all the pregnant women”?

Amy Poehler is about 8.75 months pregnant and is still in the sketches. She’s the only pregnant one…

and Darryl Hammond is the one who does the McCain CHARACTER… since it’s an impersonation, he CAN’T raise his arms, otherwise, it wouldn’t be a true caricature.

good grief.

tzada… the Tim Calhoun character played by Will Forte has been around since at LEAST the 2004 election. He’s played it that way for years. It’s not about McCain.

these comments are really starting to get asinine.

Well, folks, that’s not all, well, not quite.

NBC has the brief SNL Backstage feature for that night too, and it shows what it looked like from the inside, with the camera folks shooting the scenes we saw and some of the offstage stuff preceding what was broadcast, featuring Palin.

If that doesn’t work to get you there, try this:

Gigglechick, I agree with you on the severity of tone these days. Things are tense for people on both sides of this election these days because the polls are tightening again.

Just for your understanding, some people are reacting against Fey’s promise to leave earth if Palin and McCain are elected.

However, the news reports tended to leave out the more diplomatic words from Fey that came right after that.

In the meantime, notice this one:

It says that Palin brought the biggest overnight ratings since the Clinton administration days.
