Spread the Wealth but Concentrate the Blame

A few days ago, NQ posted a story based on audio of an interview Obama gave in 1995. This piece was about race. The now-viral video about redistribution of wealth is from a 2001 interview, and it covers the redistribution of wealth and justice from the perspective of civil rights legislation. We’ve put both here so you can see how they are linked.

From the original post:

Gatewaypundit has a video from Naked Emperor News with some comments from BO back in 1995. Yeah, it’s a few years ago. But he talks about the same thing he mentioned to “Joe the Plumber.” This sounds like the real BO to me - not the sanitized stump speech version. After all, there are no white people who willingly pay taxes for AA children to go to school, are there?

Here’s the audio:

All day yesterday, Memeorandum featured many, many articles about the second video, including one at the National Review.
Read the rest ->

First, the audio from 2001:

The National Review author provided a transcript of the audio and interspersed parts of it with interesting comments. I’m excerpting a few here, but it’s worth the time to read the entire article.

There is nothing vague or ambiguous about [Obama's comments]. Nothing.

From the top: “…The Supreme Court never entered into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And uh, to that extent, as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical.”

If the second highlighted phrase had been there without the first, Obama’s defenders would have bent over backwards trying to spin the meaning of “political and economic justice.” We all know what political and economic justice means, because Barack Obama has already made it crystal clear a second earlier: It means redistribution of wealth. Not the creation of wealth and certainly not the creation of opportunity, but simply taking money from the successful and hard-working and distributing it to those whom the government decides “deserve” it.

This redistribution of wealth, he states, “essentially is administrative and takes a lot of time.” It is an administrative task. Not suitable for the courts. More suitable for the chief executive.

Wow. “.. . redistribution of wealth. . . essentially is administrative.” Redistributing the wealth, then, is both a job for the President and is simply a matter for planning? And “not suitable for the courts” certainly suggests one would not have much chance for redress. Are you kidding?

Then he adds this:

Now that’s just garden-variety socialism, which apparently is not a big deal to may voters. So I would appeal to any American who claims to love the Constitution and to revere the Founding Fathers… I will not only appeal to you, I will beg you, as one American citizen to another, to consider this next statement with as much care as you can possibly bring to bear: “And uh, to that extent, as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution — at least as it’s been interpreted, and [the] Warren Court interpreted it in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties: [it] says what the states can’t do to you, says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf.

To me, when Obama says “[the Warren Court] didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution,” I get the distinct impression he means the court somehow failed in the “breaking free” part. That would mean Obama feels the constraints engineered by the Constitution should be removed or overcome somehow. This is what the NR had to say about that:

The entire purpose of the Constitution was to limit government. That limitation of powers is what has unlocked in America the vast human potential available in any population.

Barack Obama sees that limiting of government not as a lynchpin but rather as a fatal flaw: “…One of the, I think, the tragedies of the Civil Rights movement was because the Civil Rights movement became so court-focused, uh, I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change. And in some ways we still suffer from that.”

So, the Civil Rights movement, by using the courts to address questions of equality missed out on creating “coalitions of power” that would bring about “redistributive change.” The reason the Civil Rights movement used the courts is because that is what the courts are for - to address such problems in a venue everyone believes has legitimacy and the force of government behind it. Why would community organizing have done any better? How in the world would “redistributive change” have occurred outside the courts? What does he MEAN?

In addition to the author’s comments about Obama’s statements, he notes as well that this video - by Naked Emperor News - was found and reported on by an individual. NOT THE MSM. The 1995 video is also from NEN.

I, do however, blame the press for allowing an individual citizen to do the work that they employ standing armies of so-called professionals for. I know they are capable of this kind of investigative journalism: It only took them a day or two to damage Sarah Palin with wild accusations about her baby’s paternity and less time than that to destroy a man who happened to be playing ball when the Messiah decided to roll up looking for a few more votes on the way to the inevitable coronation.

We no longer have an independent, fair, investigative press. That is abundantly clear to everyone — even the press. It is just another of the facts that they refuse to report, because it does not suit them.

Remember this, America: The press did not break this story. A single citizen, on the Internet did.

I just did a story on the MSM, noting that it had lost all its integrity. This is just another reason to distrust those providing you “news” on tv and print and radio. At least on the ‘net you can look at multiple sources and are not limited to whatever some editor decides to give air time to.

CBSnews did give some cursory coverage to the story by reporting on a remark by John Boehner.

“As disturbing as Barack Obama’s comments about ‘redistribution of wealth’ are, what’s worse is that seven years later his rhetoric is the same,” Boehner said Monday in a statement.

“Obama still wants to ‘redistribute’ our tax dollars and ‘spread the wealth around,’ giving money to people who don’t pay taxes rather than growing our economy for everybody.”

The Obama campaign immediately pushed back, arguing that the Right is deliberately misinterpreting a narrow legal argument Obama was making about decades-old court cases.
————–
“In this seven year old interview, Senator Obama did not say that the courts should get into the business of redistributing wealth at all.

The Obama campaign is whacking away at a straw man here. I don’t think Obama was arguing the courts should redistribute wealth at all either. He plainly said that was an administrative function for the chief executive.

Of course, this audio also has other implications. By discussing the redistribution of wealth and justice within the context of the civil rights movement, Obama also makes this a racial discussion. His context is clearly about AAs and whites.

Obama has said he is all about trans-racial politics even while his past associations with the likes of Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger and other race salary-men suggest otherwise. To me, this audio is simply more of the same in that sense.

And what about the redistribution of wealth and justice? Obviously Obama feels redistribution needs to happen. That’s not even open to question for him. He also seems to think the President can accomplish such redistribution because it is an “administrative function.” And he says the Constitution, rather than define what government cannot do to citizens, should rather define what it HAS to do for citizens. That’s a very different way of approaching the fundamental outlines of how our country works.

And, the Civil Rights movement missed out by ONLY using the courts to work for justice. ONLY? What venues did the Civil Rights movement miss?

Fundamental questions for a candidate, one would think. Will anyone but the bloggers bother to ask? Given that Obama has provided so little about his beliefs (other than his strong Christian beliefs, but NOT at Trinity, no, that was a 20 year fluke) or about him personally (writings, personal information), something like this audio offers a window into what a President Obama would put on his agenda. Had he bothered to make more information available, this audio might be placed within some bigger context. But he hasn’t. So, this audio is as important as it gets.

Obama is remarkably consistent from at least 1995 to 2001 in how he views the ideas of who owes what to whom. I wonder. In the wake of these audio clips, will people try to convince us BO’s politics have changed or his attitudes? Given that he was at Trinity until last spring, I’d say the only viable thing to say is his (mis)representaitons of his politics and his positions have changed. After all, the BO campaign will do whatever they can get away with, not what is true or even passes the sniff test.

Please spread this around, it’s brand new and one more connection between Ayers and Obama.

Hi Greta,
A confession from an Obama supporter

sarah p Says:
October 27, 2008 at 5:04 am
Ok, I want to clear my conscious a little. Hopefully you could make a blog post to help some fellow clinton supporters out.

I work for a campaign and can’t wait for this week to be over.

I was doing it for a job. I was not a fan of any candidate but over time grew to love HRC.

The internal campaign idea is to twist, distort, humiliate and finally dispirit you.

We pay people and organize people to go to all the online sites and “play the part of a clinton or mccain supporter who just switched our support for obama”

We do this to stifle your motivation and to destroy your confidence.

We did this the whole primary and it worked.

Sprinkle in mass vote confusion and it becomes bewildering. Most people lose patience and just give up on their support of a candidate and decide to just block out tv, news, websites, etc.

This surprisingly has had a huge suppressing movement and vote turnout issues.

Next, we infiltrate all the blogs and all the youtube videos and overwhelm the voting, the comments, etc. All to continue this appearance of overwhelming world support.

People makes posts to the effect that the world has “gone mad”

Thats the intention. To make you feel stressed and crazy and feel like the world is ending.

We have also had quite a hand in skewing many many polls, some we couldn’t control as much as we would have liked. But many we have spoiled over. Just enough to make real clear politics look scarey to a mccain supporter. Its worked, alough the goal was to appear 13-15 points ahead.

see, the results have been working.
People tend to support a winner, go with the flow, become “sheeple”

The polls are roughly 3-5 points in favor of Barack. Thats due to our inflation of the polls and pulling in the sheeple.

Our donors, are the same people who finance the MSM. Their interests are tied, Barack then tends to come across as teflon. Nothing sticks. And trust, there were meetings with Fox news. The goal was to blunt them as much as possible. Watch Bill Oreilly he has become much more diplomatic and “fair and balanced” and soft. Its because he wants to retain the #1 spot on cable news and to do that he has to have access to the Obama campaign and we worked hard at stringing him a long and keeping him soft for an interview swap. It worked and now he is anticipating more access. So he is playing it still soft.

This is why nothing sticks.

The operation is massive, the goal is to paint a picture that is that of a winner, regardless of the results.

There is no true inauguration draft or true grant park construction going on. There will be a party, but we are boasting beyond the truth to make it seem like the election is wrapped up.

Our goal is to continue to make you lose your moral. We worked hard at persuasion and paying off and timing and playing the right political numbers to get key republican endorsements to make it seem even more like it was over and the world was coming to an end for you all.

There is a huge staff of people working around the clock, watching every site, blogs, etc. We flood these sites. We have had a goal to overwhelm.

The truth is here. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

I am saying this because I know HRC was better for the country, and now realize this. I was too late by the time I connected to her. To me Barack was just a cool young dude that seemed like a star. I didn’t know him or his policies, but now I understand more than I care to and I realize his interests are more for him, and the DNC and all working like puppets with dean. I always thought a president wanted the better good for the country. The end result I see is everyone dependent on the government, this means more and more people voting for the DNC. This means the future is forever altered. I don’t see this as america, so I am now supporting John Mccain.

Sarah Palin is a huge threat, and our campaign has feared her like you can’t imagine. If it seems unfair how she has been treated, well its because she has had a team working round the clock to make her look like a fool.

this is a big conspiracy and I am so shocked that its not realized.

We released a little blurb the other day that the Obama campaign was already working on reelection and now putting our efforts towards 2012. This was to make it seem like it was above us to continue caring about 2008. Trust me, its a lie. David is very smart, but its a sticky ugly not very truthful kind of intelligence.

Its not over yet, but I think the machine is working. And its a hill to climb.

I will be quitting my post on nov 5th and my vote will be for John Mccain. Fortunately, my position has been a marketing position and I don’t feel I had any part of anything I would feel guilty for. But I look forward to getting out of this as the negativity and environment upsets me.

I wish you all well, and goodluck.

PS my name is not really sarah. but I am a female and I understand your plight.

Whether it’s real or not it is an accurate portrayal of reality. But the important thing is - it didn’t work! The goal was for Obama to be 10-15 points ahead in the skewed polls. He isn’t going to make it. It doesn’t fit the pre-determined msm storyline, but any fool can see he isn’t going to make it.

Confessions may be healing for the soul, but too little, too late for the country.

Has everyone in the world sold out???

We have the faceless Sarah confessing all and journalists now looking for absolution and excuses are winging around the web.

Where were all these sad, grief-stricken people during the primaries? They decided to wait a week before the election to say, “mea culpa”.

Sorry, but I don’t feel very forgiving right now. Catch me after Nov. 4th. Better yet, find a priest. They’re better equipped to deal with fools and crybabies.

I was driving all day yesterday and today so tuned into Limbaugh (omg). He was talking aobut the 2001 tapes, the (living) constitution, and the courts. He also mentioned some lady from the Newhouse? School of Economics, testifying in the House mon 401Ks, how the govewrnment would take them over, give you 3% interest a year, allow you to put 5% a year into it, the governemnt would manage it for you and use up to $600/yr towards your retirement (social security). I think this was the gist of it. Anyway, it came down to the gov. taking your 401K to help wealth distribution. This was being promoted by someone in Congress, but would be right down Obama’s alley.
Limbaugh also said that in blue CA, the early voting has resulted in approximately equal numbers of Dem and Repub. registrants voting early, when you would expect there to be more disparity in these numbers given the polls showing O to have an extremely large edge there. Limbaugh’s take, the race is even in CA and probably everywhere else.

Comment by Typewriterstreaming | 2008-10-28 19:19:35

Isn’t that 401K/IRA plan just plain robbery? The woman was from the New School and jaw dropping absolutely jaw dropping. The Dems are floating this idea to stop all IRA-401 contributions, so no more tax deduction - The government will then open “social Security No 2″ and take all the money you already put in those accounts and invest it for you at a fixed rate of 3%. Yes, that is a fixed rate of 3%. All earners will be garnished a yearly 5% gross contribution to be added to your little never going to grow kitty. the government is going to add a very generous $600. I believe that is the right figure but maybe don’t quote me on the governments generosity, which ultimately comes out of our tax dollars who the fark do they really think they are kidding?
Helloooooo John McCain- got mouth???? If this isn’t the best argument for no Obama - No dem majority everywhere you look I don’t know what is.

this is prime beef bullshit. Barky needs cash for his redistribution plan, for his Bill Ayers education program - He’s and Nancy Pelosi are going to give us social Security number 2 - or how to be ensured of poverty in your old age so you do have to take your rice bowl out to the street with your fellow comrades.

bottom line this is beyond an outrage - and why the hell isn’t McCain or Palin talking about it?

I can’t figure out whether Obama is a Share the Wealth populist in the Kingfish Long mode, a European Socialist, or a Stalinist.

Comment by Anne | 2008-10-28 21:27:16

This will be “administrative” issue for him. He is surrounded by all three to choose from for his cabinet. This is in part thanks to Bush II and Cheney for this unitary presidency advancement.

He will continue to consolidate power, as we have seen, so there will be no check or balance to his path. I think it really depends upon who brought him that will detemine his path. That question is still open.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-10-28 19:56:36

It’s RobinHood economics, only if the story is correct in my memory Robin Hood was dispersing wealth stolen from the comman man, who sweated and toiled, while making the landowners fat and sassy. This new version is wealth taken from the people who are the earners and give it to people who can’t earn or simply don’t want to. And, of course, we can expect the typical skim by “political administrators.”

I don’t know but there seems to be a difference between the original and the revised RH philosophy.

Should we give to charitable causes, give a helping hand? Of course. I do. Most people I know do. Should we have gun put to our heads?

Don’t think so.

All you’ll get is a downslide of productivity and everyone on the dole. Why work hard if anything you save and strive for belongs to the Government? And then, the halarious question: we’re suppose to trust these people, the same people who said Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac were as sound as a bell?

Now this, gives me a true belly laugh.

Depend on government, any government, any political affilation and you can kiss your liberties a sweet goodbye.

McCain/Palin ‘08

PS: Remember the outrage over “voodoo economics?” What a joke!

Comment by Anne | 2008-10-28 21:36:08

I cannot believe that the Dems are even discussing this 401K idea at this crucual juncture in the election. This will only help them lose. Perhaps they are truly tone deaf.

McCain should surely pick this up and add a couple of sentences to support his concern about a democratic legislative majority and an Obama administration. This is the prime example he is waiting for to expose. And it is on c-span. It should make everyone wake up and fear a democratic controlled congress and democratic administration. He should come out and say he will veto it, if elected.

This must be a trap of some kind.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-10-28 22:29:18

Tone deaf is a good phrase, Anne. I heard this 401k/pension plan conversion nonsense a couple days ago. They are “discussing” taking monies [that belong to us] and putting them into Government bonds with a 3% return, while also proposing a capital gains increase. They’ll convert the 401ks at the August levels [before the meltdown], but with a 3% gain, you can forget any growth. Somehow this is all mixed in with Social Security and a $600 annual payout.

I read about it and it made my head hurt. Is it real? A trap? God knows. But honestly, I don’t trust Congress anymore. There’s a reason they have a 9% favorability rate.

And they want to control my retirement funds.

Over my dead body!

But then, they want to tax that, too. It’s surreal.

Not true. In reality, McCain is ahead.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-10-28 19:27:15

omg…I was listening to this today at work and I could not believe it!! You can make more than 3% off of your 401k even if you invest it moderately. Not only that they would not let it be pre tax like it is now. Those people are fucking NUTS. If they would ever do that, alot of people would do like me.. I will just stick my money under my mattress. No one is getting my hard earned money while they sit on their LAZY ASS.

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-10-28 21:10:38

Hell, I get 6% on mine if I just invest in US treasuries and t bills, etc. Low risk. When the economy isn’t so bad, I earn between 6 and 12% on mine!

That second audio is frightening. Legal segregation was horrible, evil. But using the Supreme Court to redistribute wealth? No, thanks.

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-10-28 19:27:48

It might be interesting to hear a bit more about his constitutional law views, especially how and what he taught.

This all adds great contrast to McCain who talks about wanting justices that apply the constitution and Obama who wants them to toss it and to wage class warfare on successful Americans.

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-10-28 19:21:39

Yes, redistribution is a lifelong view for Obama. Not only 1995 and 2001, but also 1990 in an interview with a Chicago suburban paper (http://nakedemperornews.com/youngObama.pdf). Further, his associations also make the same clear: membership in the Illinois New Party (an unbrella group that included participants Chicago DSA, the lcoal affiliate of the Democratic Socialists of America, the communist Committees of Correspondence, ACORN, and SEIU).

Joe the Plumber is a perfect illustration of the real Obama. If you check out the click, Obama practically lectured the guy for many minutes. Afterward his cult follows and nutroots gangs pummeled him for his audacity to ask the Dear Leader a question.

It is telling about the real Obama that he reaffirmed, rather than denied his spread the wealth comment when speaking with GMA on the 24th. Too bad he forgot to share that with Biden who got embarrassed trying to defend the indefensible while talking to an Orlando TV interviewer.

Obama is a Marxist and socialist–now, in 2001, in 1995, and in 1990. Hey, aside from his penchant to lie, here’s something he’s consistent with.

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-10-28 19:31:14

It’s even in his 1994 course syllabus printed by the NYTimes.

It’s in the form of a discussion question, but notice he doesn’t ask the merits of reparations, but asks how they could be implemented. Link at New Hampster’s place. Here is “Professor” Obama’s syllabus question to students in 1994:

10) Given the perceived failures of the traditional civil rights agenda in bringing about racial equality in the US, a number of black commentators argue that a program of reparations is the only legitimate means of making up for more that three-hundred plus years of slavery. More recently, some white commentators have also supported a variant of the reparations concept — for example, the government financing a Community Reinvestment funds that would be controlled by the black community and render affirmative action obsolete. Do such proposals have any realistic chance of working their way through the political system Would there be any legal impediments to such a broadly-conceived reparations policy?

Comment by Matthew Weaver | 2008-10-28 19:47:45

That sounds awful familiar with the tactics of Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition and Obama’s many efforts, including his favorite group, ACORN.

Comment by elliewyatt | 2008-10-28 20:32:31

Read ACORN’s “Peoples’ Platform” 1990:

http://web.archive.org/web/20010623061353/www.acorn.org/pp-content.html#elections

A few snippets:

Health Care: “Controlled by the people of the community”, “Place members of the community on all medical licensing boards”, “Throw doctors and hospital administrators off the boards of directors, and replace them with a low and moderate income majority”, “Doctors are on set salaries”, “Medical education is financed by the government, in exchange for which doctors are required to serve in the public health service for a period of at least ten years”

Housing: “Repeal mortgage interest and property tax deductions: establish mortgage interest tax credits only for low and moderate income households”, “Subsidized home purchase loans”, “Initiate an immediate moratorium on all foreclosures”

Workers Rights: “Require private industry to use the technology which creates the most jobs”, “Create a national youth entitlement program which guarantees a part time job”, “Provide an adequate income to every American”, “Guarantee a minimum annual family income”, “The right to company or government financed child care”, “Require management to negotiate: Sale of the company, work schedules, pricing, choice of suppliers, organization of management, etc.”

Government: “Require that low and moderate income people be proportionately represented in all major political institutions, including: the Cabinet, the judiciary, the regulatory boards, and the national party conventions.”

Goody! Since I am low/moderate income, I can get get a judiciary position! I don’t have specific education that would qualify me, but that won’t matter!

And Michelle, pack up your shit & get out of the Board Room.

At $317,000 per year, you’re not low or moderate income. According to your beloved ACORN, your job is MINE now. I can do your job for $149,000 (don’t want Ol’ Joe to increase my taxes), but it’s ok, I can get a subsidized mortgage (straight from the taxpayer… I won’t even need Rezko in order to buy a house beyond my means, and if I buy a really great mansion like you did, I won’t have to worry if I default on the mortgage, because ACORN established in 1990 that we should have a moratorium on foreclosures).

Comment by elliewyatt | 2008-10-28 21:21:24

It’s OK, you don’t have to worry about her lack of paycheck. As of 1990, ACORN calls for a total ban on forclosures and free childcare for all.

So when are the Native Americans going to get their due?

Oh and what about women? The ERA still hasn’t been passed, after all these years.

Oh and what about the mostly women who were called witches and then murdered — Salem witch trials a few generations back? I know some descendants of the women and they are still pissed, they fled and moved North to Canada.

The old question — why do today’s taxpayers need to pay for the bad behavior of segregationists or slave owners? Should everyone be required to pay according to their ancestor’s racism? What if you ancestors are recent immigrants. And should everyone get an automatic 50% off this bill owed to AAs? Seeing that 50% of our ancestors were female and therefore endured discrimination and worse?

To the idiots who are calling Palin — dumb, a ditz etc — I counter with the dumbest candidate — Obama.

Obama is called brilliant — I haven’t seen the evidence — and with his redistribution/ share the wealth plan — he is certainly the dumbest of the dumb — he’s even dumber than Biden.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-10-28 23:20:56

Northwest, I had never thought about that. I’m not a Native American. But I am a woman and I’m sure I must have had an ancestor burned at the stake somewhere along the line. I’ll have to research that and come back with my formal complaint.

But wait! I have an Irish Catholic background. People hated the Irish. Lots of indentured servants. And Catholics aren’t everyone’s cup of tea even now. But then, the English were even worse. As a far off daughter of County Cork, I might have a claim against the British Crown. Potato famines, forced emigration.

The possibilities are absolutely endless! I hope the New Party has the paperwork printed and ready. There’s going to be a rush on Townhall! Washington, DC, here I come.

Exciting days!

These next few days might be much better than we hoped.

I think the LA Times is going to be forced to release the tape of Obama at Palestinian dinner…sitting next to the Ayers, listening to anti Semitic jokes and laughing….in 2003, with his good friend Rasheed that he has hidden so far.

Then there is the drip, drip, drip, of the whitey tapes, which have been deflected by the Obamamercial tomorrow night…

We can only hope that more of the skeletons jump out of the closet for Halloween, with all the illegal donations waiting to be discovered…

Meanwhile, people like me, who WANT to find work, WONT be able to because all of these small businesses are gonna bail because of Obama’s HUGE tax hike. Bottom line, a lot of people want to sit back and collect welfare, a lot of people don’t want to work, and what they don’t get is that Obama isn’t gonna do a damn thing for them. Obama doesn’t like White People, he hates Jews, he only cares about blacks and giving them our money, thats about it. Whites (poor whites) were called white trash by individuals who were variously known as colored or negro, later Black and now African Americans.

Years ago Harlem was were many immigrants first lived after coming to America. Slowly Harlem became home to AAs and a few white immigrants remained — and they often were called “white trash” by AAs riding the buses.

This information according to children and grandchildren of former Harlem residents.
“White Trash” was very much considered a grave insult — rather like the “N” word.

Share wealth when the development of the natural resources occurs. In simpler terms for you: work/activity/industry results in wealth.

This is the opposite of Obamanation “distributive justice,” i.e. sit on your ass while the Great Communist usurps money from so-called wealthy Americans, and gives it to people for his own spurious reasons like “payback” (to use the term other Obots have used in this forum) for racism. In other words, take and distribute: no work necessary.

The differene here is the natural resource itself belongs to the residents of Alaska, not simply a minefield for the oil and gas companies to excavate willy-nilly.

For instance, if we [the American public] had arrangements with another country to mine our coal [a natural resource], would the American citizens not have a reasonable expectation to profit from some of those proceeds? The raw material is ours afterall. Or should the foreign country take all?

So, your argument is specious at best, pathetic at worst. Try again.

Comment by Shiloh | 2008-10-28 20:33:31

I don’t even get the argument. Palin is a socialist like Obama? Obama is a right wing corporate suck-up like Palin? Or is it just leave the oil in the ground? I don’t think “hypocrite” can recall what he wrote 30 seconds ago. Get off the bong dude!

Comment by hypocrite | 2008-10-28 20:42:11

it’s what they do with the taxed oil money that makes it socialism.

1) As a government, keep the money increase employee pay/employee size.

2) Give it back to the people.

She chose 2. that, my friends, is socialism.

Comment by hypocrite | 2008-10-28 20:38:12

“For instance, if we [the American public] had arrangements with another country to mine our coal [a natural resource], would the American citizens not have a reasonable expectation to profit from some of those proceeds?”

Indeed! And if that money was given back to me, that would be socialism! You understand the concept.

so⋅cial⋅ism   /ˈsoʊʃəˌlɪzəm/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [soh-shuh-liz-uhm] Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

I will quote Hendrick Hertzberg:

“Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it…but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.”

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-10-28 21:10:34

I will quote, Peggy Sue:

Please fly back to the mothership, drink some koolaid and start saying prayers because your polls are sinking.

And I think the citizens of Alaska might take umbrage that they’re “fat and lazy.”

Please, move to Alaska, survive those winters. See how fat and lazy you get.

But then, I guess Alaskans, too, are merely trailer park trash, hoping to live off the dole. And please, there “is” a difference between natural resources, something you pull from the ground or the natural habitat and my life energy, something you pull from me, the sweat of my brow.

You don’t see the difference? Well, then we have nothing to discuss. But then, I favor humans over polar bears. Even trees. I’m stubborn that way.

Steve,
You still don’t get it or you do but you’re like Allen Colmes, who misrepresents the argument.

The top 5% of the people pay most of the taxes in this country. The difference between your video of John McCain and Obama’s policy is Obama wants to tax them even more and then give it to 43 % of the people who pay no income tax or very little. Hence, spread the wealth.

Comment by Seattle McMoss | 2008-10-28 22:21:01

The folks on the Obama side think that we can just go back to the 1990’s and everything will be the same as it was.
When you roll back the tax cuts and let them expire they go up for everyone effected.

I don’t live in 1998…I live in 2008 where a tax increase could lead to a great depression.

Have you noticed Tampa that whenever McCain’s numbers go up the stock market rallys.

They say if Obama wins the Dow could drop to 5000..

Comment by tampagurl | 2008-10-28 22:33:16

Right Seattle,

We had tough times for awhile after Clinton’s tax increase. As a matter of fact, I remember him in a speech to some union workers say …”I know you think I raised your taxes to much, it might surprise you to know, I think I did too”.

Along came the internet boom, the stock market took off and everything was OK. However, without the internet boom I’m not so sure the 90’s would have been so great.

The latest Investors Business Daily/TIPP tracking poll shows Obama ahead of McCain by 2.8 points as of Monday. TIPP is credited for having been the most accurate polling outfit in 2004.

The Zogby poll shows Obama leading by 4.8 points, down from yesterday when his lead was 5.3 points.

According to John Zogby: “Things are trending back for McCain. His numbers are rising and Obama’s are dropping on a daily basis.”

Then start listening to your neighbors, your family and friends. There’s something in the wind, a whisper, something not fully voiced but forming on the edges and it sounds like:

No! Not now, not ever.

And then, vote as if your life depended on it. Because it does.

It ain’t over until it’s over!

Where did you get that Fox poll you quote?

Sorry, I looked but couldn’t find even one that shows McCain in the lead.

They’re not going to. They’re the MSM-generated polls.

November 4, 2008 will tell the true story. The one that the MSM isn’t willing to report.

I wouldn’t put my faith in those polls if I were you. They’re leading you Obamabrats into a false sense of security. History proves that.

I’m here because I like to hear the crazy stories you conservatives come up with to placate yourselves. The election isn’t over, it will be over on November 4th when Obama is elected to the office of President.

Keep telling yourselves that the “trolls” are here for whatever reason you need to in order to get over the fact that your candidates will lose/have lost. It’s not something that surprises me in the least.

I’m not putting my faith in the polls, I believe it was other people on this site that brought up polls. I’m putting my faith in America to elect the correct person. That person being Obama.

Just saw a blurb on Lou. Nancy, spokeswoman for the Gang of 5 (Pelosi, Reid, Barry, MEchille and Dean)telling us “Don’t be scared.”

I’d like to wish the same to Ms. Pelosi…you’ll have a few months to try to continue your damage before you’re divested of the power you’ve abused. Many of your former supporters are voting Republican down ticket to see that that happens. Can’t come too soon. If we can take a few seats back along with a McCain presidency, we’ll foil your plans.

This kinda relates to spreading the wealth from poor to rich, as you’ll see when you get to the end of my brother’s experience over the weekend serving Obamabots. I feel like it’s apropos for me to post some funny and yet disturbing truths about Obama campaign volunteers here in San Francisco.

My brother worked as a bartender at two Obama campaign parties at a very popular nightclub over the weekend. For the record he is a libertarian-leaning Republican supporting McCain. Anyways, he told me that the whole place was filled with drunk campaign workers and in one room they had this volunteer from a local sex/ porn shop holding sessions with some of these campaign workers. What kind of sessions? Try not to barf, but this volunteer was coaching these idiots on how to achieve orgasm by chanting Obama! and conjuring his image. My brother said these loons were laying/ rolling on the floor in semi-orgasmic states while chanting Obama.

As for entertainment, the music that was played involved more brainwashing. my brother told me it was a lot of techno music enhanced by Obama speeches/ catchphrases dubbed onto the tracks.

The sickening part, at least for my brother, was when a drunk campaign staffer went to him and gave him a pin to wear. My brother couldn’t betray his own sympathies but to remain neutral, told the staffer “I’m apolitical but thank you” as he took the pin and put it in his tip jar. Shortly thereafter, my brother went to another work station, but his supervisor told him that the staffer was asking the manager to make him wear the pin, and generally trying to get him into trouble at work. In all, the bartenders didn’t make that much tips because the campaign staffers and volunteers told the bartenders that they were putting the money meant for tips into the jars marked Obama Campaign Contribution jars instead since it’s for a “better cause” in their words.

I guess bartenders who rely on tips didn’t need the money as badly as a fraud who raised millions illegally. Oh, and my brother also said that people at the party were saying that a lot of the contributions came from so-called credit cards that you can purchase with cash at places like Western Union. There are no paper trails that way and you can get away with contributing more than the max.

It’s the saddest thing to see the AAs being defrauded by this azzhole. I can’t believe they would fall for this when the idiot did NOTHING to help the AAs in HIS OWN DISTRICT. They are suffering because he couldn’t care less. Hispanics too, but they are catching on to him big time. The smart AAs I know want nothing to do with this creep.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-10-28 21:57:19

The majority of AAs would never see any of the money — the funds would be channeled to folks like Mrs. Obama and she’d suddenly have a huge rise in salary.

Stuff like this happens all the time on Caribbean Islands — ALL legislative positions and government jobs are held by blacks. So you would think that blacks are no longer poor — think again. It is all about class — and who’s parents were BORN on the island. There is still a very exclusive section, segregated where the very wealthy live (mostly people who work for the Government or were elected to their office) — then there are the slums — little shacks, here and there where the poor live, servants to the local mafia of the island.

Oh then go to Africa and see the magnificent homes that the ruling class live in — and then see the slums that the lower classes live in.

Obama is living in a fantasy world — he has no idea about the reality of the world.

And rather than Obama making an effort to understand America and how the working class lives — Obama is trying to remake America into his concept of what America should be like. I do believe that Mrs. Obama has made a remark about Obama’s vision of what America should be like.

This is one of the sickest, pathetic couples ever to enter politics — and they have hoodwinked and bamboozled 95% of the voting AAs.

Of course, what these lazy losers DONT Get is that Obama isn’t gonna give them a damn thing. You want to know the type of people voting for Obama..the ones that DONT want to work, the ones that want to stay home, sleep in their beds all day, pig out on food and wait for their welfare check. The post you were responding to, that just proves once again that people should take an IQ test before being allowed to vote. Too many stupid people in this country
===========================================

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. I hate to say it…but this whole election I was thinking…Why DON’T we have an IQ test for voters? It’s the lowest of the low, the most ignorant, stupid, lazy and filthy dirty who want OHitler in office. They shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Sorry. Anyone who votes to destroy America because they are lazy slobs shouldn’t get to be protected with a vote.

I am in complete agreement with your IQ test idea. That way, most people posting on this site wouldn’t be allowed to vote, including yourself.

Please provide some evidence of this HUGE tax hike you suggest Obama would introduce. Have you forgotten how prosperous the 90’s were? Obama’s plan would put those in the top 5% back to the same rates as they had in the 90’s. Unless the business makes over $600k, they won’t see a difference in their taxes. Anything over $600k isn’t a small business.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-10-28 22:54:18

Really, Steve? I thought that number was $250,000 but then Biden slipped/gaffed today and said $150,000.

But look here, the SBA figures [something that even ignorant trailer trash can pull up with a simple mouse click} says this:

oh, btw: SBA is the Small Business Administration

Q. How does the SBA define a small business?

A. A small business is a concern that is organized for profit, with a place of business in the United States, and which operates primarily within the United States or makes a significant contribution to the U.S. economy through payment of taxes or use of American products, materials or labor. Further, the concern cannot be dominant in its field, on a national basis. Finally, the concern must meet the numerical small business size standard for its industry. SBA has established a size standard for most industries in the U.S. economy. The most common size standards are as follow:

500 employees for most manufacturing and mining industries

100 employees for all wholesale trade industries

$7.0 million for most retail and service industries

$33.5 million for most general & heavy construction industries

$14.0 million for all special trade contractors

$0.75 million for most agricultural industries

About one-fourth of industries have a size standard that is different from these levels. They vary from $0.75 million to $33.5 million for size standards based on average annual revenues and from 100 to 1500 employees for size standards based on number of employees. Several SBA programs have either alternative or unique size standards, such as the Small Business Investment Company Program.

Whoa!!! Looks like you guys need to adjust those numbers again. And I think Palin referenced a Mexican restaurant in Nevada, 20 employees, owned by a woman, trying to make the American Dream come true. She makes over the $250,000. More taxes? What will she do between extra taxes and mandatory health care benefits. Hummmmm. Let me guess–lay off workers, maybe go under?

But what the hell. The New Party will take care of us. What’s to worry?

Please, spread your nonsense somewhere else. The numbers, the plan does not work. Not for you. Not for me. Not for anyone.

But if you like the idea? Move to Cuba!

Funny how here in San Francisco, if you don’t voice support for Obama you’re un-American and obviously not to be considered a decent human being.

As with the IQ test idea, I find it laughable that Obama voters are supposedly the “smart ones” in this election. You will put down anyone who didn’t graduate from college or who didn’t earn their degrees from Ivy League universities, as if only people with higher educations deserve the right to vote. Do you not think this notion as being elitist in the least bit? You wonder why then that blue-collar voters still harbor some distrust of your shitty candidate.

Before you go attacking my intelligence, let’s see some proof of yours. Where did you go to college, what have you accomplished in your life that you can make pronounced judgments on people you presume to be dumber than you believe yourself to be. I graduated from UC Berkeley, decided to then obtain a B.S. in Nursing as my second bachelors, now I’m working towards a doctorate in pharmacology. English is not my first language btw, I also speak three other languages. Do I sound like a dumb McCain voter to you?

I believe there’s something intrinsically un-American about the direction the republican right has been taking the nation. Plutocracy is un-American. Giving enormous tax cuts to the 10 percent of the population that already controls 71 percent of the total wealth when you have to borrow money in the name of all Americans to do it is un-American.

This is the sort of crap that we once had a revolution to end. We’re luckier now, thanks to the wisdom of the people who rebelled against that tyranical class system. Now we can hold an election and level the playing field a bit.

This is a tough issue - parity in school funding. As a lifelong democrat, I am for parity, however we can acheive it. It has benefits for all of us as it relates to a reduction in poverty and unemployment.

I do not think education and health care should be such tough issues, as they reduce the long term costs of not providing them.

I live in Texas, and we still are largely dependent upon property taxes for education. My state dem representative is trying to solve the shortfall in taxes against the needs, attempting to achieve equity, and I will vote for him.

The rest, not so much.

We need another way of funding education other than property taxes. We tried to take tax revenue from high property value districts and share it with low property value districts. That pissed everyone off. It was called, “Robin Hood.” This wasn’t socialism in my view, but it looked like it to the parents who wanted more astroturf.

It appears to be socialistic to spread the tax revenue across all children, but the benefits here outway the downsides of a bad education, which result in fewer opportunities for economic acheivement. The taxes we pay are to fund the operation of government, not give handouts as Obama wants to do in his stump speeches and given his history. One of those operations is education, though it seems to have been co-opted by the annenburg challenge, that provided no benefit whatsoever to education.

I am just talking about preventative maintenance of our society here and what makes a good investment. All children are good investments, regardless of politics.
