Democratic Speechwriter Rejects Party and Votes McCain/Palin

Washington D.C. speechwriter Wendy Button aptly says So Long, Democrats, in her piece appearing in The Daily Beast. Ms. Button has written for Senators John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Barack Obama, as well as other national and international leaders. She really tells the ‘new’ Democratic Party where to go. Her words are worth your time:

Since I started writing speeches more than ten years ago, I have always believed in the Democratic Party. Not anymore. Not after the election of 2008. This transformation has been swift and complete and since I’m a woman writing in the election of 2008, “very emotional.”

Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates.

Wendy goes on to explain how she was first inspired by Edwards but not getting a job with his campaign, came to work for Obama:

I helped with his announcement speech and others. I worked in the Senate when he was in D.C. One day after a hearing on Darfur, we were walking back to the office. I was still hobbling from a very bad ankle injury and in a very kind and gentle way he offered his arm when we approached the stairs. But later in debate preps and phone conversations and meetings, I realized that I had made a mistake. I didn’t belong. No matter how hard I tried, my heart wasn’t in it anymore.

This drift started on a personal level with the fall of former Senator John Edwards. It got stronger during the Democratic National Convention when I counted the substantive mentions of poverty on one hand and a whole bunch of bad canned partisan lines against Senator John McCain. Some faith was lifted after Senator Hillary Clinton’s grace during a difficult hour. But that faith was dashed when I saw that someone had raided the Caligula set and planted the old columns at Invesco Field.

The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager,” and the patronizing, “I’ve got nothing but love for Joe the Plumber.”

Having worked in politics, I know that absolutely none of this is on the level. This back and forth is posturing, a charade, and a political game. These lines are what I refer to as “hooker lines”—a sure thing to get applause and the press to scribble as if they’re reporting meaningful news.

As the nation slouches toward disaster, the level of political discourse is unworthy of this moment in history. We have Republicans raising Ayers and Democrats fostering ageism with “erratic” and jokes about Depends. Sexism. Racism. Ageism and maybe some Socialism have all made their ugly cameos in election 2008. It’s not inspiring. Perhaps this is why I found the initial mocking of Joe so offensive and I realized an old line applied: “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party left me.”

Wendy then delivers the most blistering indictment of the current Democratic Party and certainly I agree with her reasons for holding them in such low esteem now:

The party I believed in wouldn’t look down on working people under any circumstance. And Joe the Plumber is right. This is the absolutely worst time to raise taxes on anyone: the rich, the middle class, the poor, small businesses and corporations.

Our economy is in the tank for many complicated reasons, especially because people don’t have enough money. So let them keep it. Let businesses keep it so they can create jobs and stay here and weather this storm. And yet, the Democratic ideology remains the same. Our approach to problems—big government solutions paid for by taxing the rich and big and smaller companies—is just as tired and out of date as trickle down economics. How about a novel approach that simply finds a sane way to stop the bleeding?

She correctly addresses the DNC’s outdated talking points and ideology in the midst of the economic storm we face. If Obama had any real clue as to policy, post–partisan genius that he is purported to be, he would think outside the box and propose something new. Clearly he is not capable of doing so, only stealing others ideas for his own; riding in late to take credit after doing none of the hard work required to get there. Remember “Congress will call me if they need me.”

…Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign from Joe the Plumber to the bitter comments, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates. At first, certain Democrats and the press called Senator Clinton “dishonest.” They went after her cleavage. They said her experience as First Lady consisted of having tea parties. There was no outrage over “Bros before Hoes” or “Iron My Shirt.”

Ms. Button remembers this outrage as well as the rest of us. All of Senator Clinton’s accomplishments and great policy ideas were tossed under the bus in favor of every negative speck of dust the press and Obama’s campaign could find to magnify.

But here we are about a week out and it’s déjà vu all over again. Really, front-page news is how the Republican National Committee paid for Governor Sarah Palin’s wardrobe? Where’s the op-ed about how Obama tucks in his shirt when he plays basketball or how Senator Biden buttons the top button on his golf shirt?

Here we are discussing Governor Palin’s clothes—oh wait, now we’re on to the make-up—not what either man is going to do to save our economy. This isn’t an accident. It is part of a manufactured narrative that she is stupid.

Most interesting to me was Wendy’s take on Sarah Palin. It was encouraging to me that a die hard Democrat would take the time to put aside any preconceived notions and actually looks at Palin’s record:

Governor Palin and I don’t agree on a lot of things, mostly social issues. But I have grown to appreciate the Governor. I was one of those initial skeptics and would laugh at the pictures. Not anymore. When someone takes on a corrupt political machine and a sitting governor, that is not done by someone with a low I.Q. or a moral core made of tissue paper.

Obama, who wouldn’t know strong moral code if it bit him, and can’t seem to find a policy he likes well enough to hold on to against the changing winds, might want to take a page out of Sarah Palin’s book — instead of belittling her.

When someone fights her way to get scholarships and work her way through college even in a jagged line, that shows determination and humility you can’t learn from reading Reinhold Niebuhr. When a mother brings her son with special needs onto the national stage with love, honesty, and pride, that gives hope to families like mine as my older brother lives with a mental disability. And when someone can sit on a stage during the Sarah Palin rap on Saturday Night Live, put her hands in the air and watch someone in a moose costume get shot—that’s a sign of both humor and humanity.

Has she made mistakes? Of course, she’s human too. But the attention paid to her mistakes has been unprecedented compared to Senator Obama’s “57 states” remarks or Senator Biden using a version of the Samuel Johnson quote, “There’s nothing like a hanging in the morning to focus a man’s thoughts.”

Her statements about Iraq were also surprising; certainly unusual coming from a Democrat:

But thank God for election 2008. We can talk about the wardrobe and make-up even though most people don’t understand the details about Senator Obama’s plan with Iraq. When he says, “all combat troops,” he’s not talking about all troops—it leaves a residual force of as large as 55,000 indefinitely. That’s not ending the war; that’s half a war.

I was dead wrong about the surge and thought it would be a disaster. Senator John McCain led when many of us were ready to quit. Yet we march on as if nothing has changed, wedded to an old plan, and that too is a long way from the Democratic Party.

In closing, I think Wendy echoes the sentiments of a great many Hillary supporters who, alternately, sit in wonderment and horror that the Democratic Party they fought for, donated to, campaigned for and believe in all these years would exhibit the behavior Ms. Button discusses here:

I can no longer justify what this party has done and can’t dismiss the treatment of women and working people as just part of the new kind of politics. It’s wrong and someone has to say that. And also say that the Democratic Party’s talking points—that Senator John McCain is just four more years of the same and that he’s President Bush—are now just hooker lines that fit a very effective and perhaps wave-winning political argument…doesn’t mean they’re true. After all, [McCain] is the only one who’s worked in a bipartisan way on big challenges.

Before I cast my vote, I will correct my party affiliation and change it to No Party or Independent. Then, in the spirit of election 2008, I’ll get a manicure, pedicure, and my hair done. Might as well look pretty when I am unemployed in a city swimming with “D’s.”

Whatever inspiration I had in Chapel Hill two years ago is gone. When people say how excited they are about this election, I can now say, “Maybe for you. But I lost my home.”

Just yesterday, Senator Biden made another mind bending statement when he said “this is a new Democratic Party not the party of the 70s and 80s. This is a party that has adjusted to the realities of a new world order.”

I am not sure what ‘new world order’ he is talking about, but if it includes demeaning women, belittling working class voters and ignoring the issues that weigh heavily on our country at the moment in favor of pretty, vacuous sound bites and “word salad.” obviously I am not a part of it.

Thanks Wendy, for having the courage to speak up and tell the Democratic Party off.

I’m sorry, but “Wendy” can piss off.

She’s defending Palin more in this article, when she SHOULD have been writing for Hillary.

I’m not buying her writing; kinda sounds like a Colin Powell “Heyyyy, Saddam Hussein is a really bad man planning on blowing up THE WHOLE WORLD in just a few days, and HE personally hijacked a plane on 9/11!” Oh, wait…

Too LITTLE, too LATE!

Comment by bell'artista | 2008-10-29 23:44:10

Sorry, but Hillary has plenty voice of her own and can write for herself.

Too bad she and Bill both chose the path of political expediency and agreed to be good foot soldiers for the Party that sold them up the river, and the incompetent fool that Hillary herself said had nothing but a good speech.
He still has nothing more.

I was a delegate for Hillary, and personally, I’m disappointed in both Hillary and Bill that they have chosen to get on board for the Fraud and all those who threw them under the bus.

I applaud anyone who comes forward before Nov. 4

You know what — for a Democratic operative to diss the people who have been her bread and butter in order to come out publicly and vote for a Republican is quite a big deal.

I agree she should have made a ruckus when all this was happening to Hillary.

Yes, she and many others should have spoken out earlier — but she is doing what many other Dem. operatives may feel — but they don’t have the guts to say out loud — or act on their beliefs.

I have to stop and give her credit for at least that much.

Comment by Ani | 2008-10-30 02:47:49

Furthermore, judging by the twilight zone in which we all find ourselves, I do appreciate anyone who makes the right decision in advance of voting rather than saying woulda shoulda coulda after the fact.

The travesty of Hillary being robbed of this was certainly a far bigger fraud than this one person had any control over.

If you go to The Daily Beast where this appeared, you’ll be stunned by the comments about this piece. I recommend you not bother but thought to mention it only to illustrate the depth of the delusion of those Obama has captured with the rapture.

What do they do? Abuse, accuse and ridicule somebody they know nothing about. Several of the comments suggest that Ms. Button is making it all up and was never a speechwriter for anybody. Right, never happened.

Reminds me of a plea I read from a woman who didn’t know how to talk to her friend about Obama. She’d tried to talk to the friend about Obama and his associations, specifically William Ayers only to be told by her friend that she was “lying” and that Obama had never known Ayers at all.

That’s how vicious it is out there so do NOT be discouraged when you run up against it. They are lost in a post-hypnotic haze and should be humored and ignored. There is MUCH work to be done and it is having an effect. Trust me.

Stand up!!!!

You are fighting the right fight, for all the right reasons.

Comment by Ani | 2008-10-29 22:22:45

I spoke to a doctor about Obama — this woman is a doctor! She also said that Jesse Jackson Jr. is not affiliated with Obama’s campaign. M’kay.

I talked about his relationship to ACORN — she found nothing wrong with them.

She said all the Ayers, Rezko, Wright stuff are smears and not real.

I talked about his voting record or the lack thereof, flip flips, reneging on his word on so many things.

*crickets*

She pointed out what an honorable campiagn he has run and what a great new campaign model he is using.

I just stared at her. Then I realized I’d never want this woman operating on me. She is delusional.

Comment by InsightAnalytical-GRL | 2008-10-29 23:20:24

My doctor is delusional as well….I think I shocked here when I expressed doubt about Obama! She said she was “surprised” that I wasn’t on board…

Well, too bad…I already know that doctors don’t know EVERYTHING! (Heck, I was the one who actually uncovered that I had CKD…the doctors weren’t understanding the damn numbers!!)

Comment by McHope | 2008-10-29 23:46:04

We’ll see how happy they are when they are understaffed and doling out nationalized healthcare to millions of illegal aliens for free. While paying more than half thier income in taxes and losing their investments to the government.

They both also need to be informed of Obama’s vote against protecting infants born alive during failed abortions. You know, do no harm and such.

Hypocratic to hypocrite to ‘hope’ocrisy, someone needs to highlight their utter lack of reasoning and intelligence.

Another word of advice, find yourself a new healthcare provider with better judgement.

It’ like the “Invasion of the Obody Snatchers”, I’m beginning to look in the back of trucks for giant seed pods. I’ve personally lost several friends and there are siblings I can’t talk to about this election. They just hold their hands to their ears and scream “LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA, I don’t want ot hear it”. And they want to know when I’ll go to sleep.

My frustration is magnified when I can’t physically jump through my T.V. screen and strangle Obama spokesman Bill Burton when he knowingly tells outrageous lies with a giant shit-eatin’ grin on his insipid mug, and force him to admit that the whole Obama campaign is the BIGGEST FRAUD IN THE HISTORY OF THIS REPUBLIC. For now I’ll just have to keep the Windex handy to wipe the spit off the screen.

Nothing makes a difference to him and when he can’t speak to any of Barky’s accomplishments then he goes to what a great campaign Barrakula has run and he should win just because of that!

We were kind of waiting for the election to be over, but I think he and I are done, too. 3 years, poof! Because of Barky and his horrifcally devisive campaign!

Statement on Former ACORN Affliliate Employee’s Testimony in Court Linking Obama Campaign Directly to ACORN Activity

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain-Palin 2008 campaign manager Rick Davis released the following statement in response to the testimony given by a former employee of an ACORN affiliate in a Pennsylvania court of law:

“Today’s testimony by a former employee of an ACORN affiliate proves Barack Obama is guilty of lying to the American people about his relationship with ACORN. At the last presidential debate, in front of sixty million people, Barack Obama said his campaign was not involved’ with ACORN. We now know that Barack Obama’s campaign was working hand-in-glove with an organization reportedly under investigation by the F.B.I. and in more than a dozen states. In addition to funneling $832,000 to ACORN for get-out-the-vote efforts, the Obama campaign and ACORN have been sharing donor lists, encouraging maxed-out Obama donors to contribute to this unethical organization.”

I am a life long Democrat and Stauch Clinton supporter! I am NOT VOTING FOR OBAMA NOR DEMOCRATS for justifible reasons similiar to the above list!

I said that I worked for Hillary, gave money, time enery and passion…. and for the Dems as well….and now I am confused. At first I thought, well Bill and Hillary HAVE to support Obama cos their dems. YET…. is the Democratic Party of today… the same Democratic Party that Bill and Hillary support? If so… then I guess, sadly, that I am wrong about Bill and Hillary. Terribly wrong. I would have hoped they had enough courage like McCain.. to put their Country before their party. They don’t.

I asked them to STOP sending me emails in support of Obama. They have no right to send me Obama emails! I suggested they put an OPT OUT for Obama crap on their site, and if that is not possible, then it is time for me to respectfully part ways from the Clintons and their mailing list.

WENDY WECLOME TO THE land of Dems for McCain! I appreciate that you honor your integrity!

I agree completely. The cruelest cut was when those idiots in LA hung Gov. Palin in effigy. The Hillary Clinton I thought I knew would have publicly denounced such a despicable display.

Today I requested a refund of my donations to Sen. Clinton’s campaign. Then I voted for McCain-Palin.

BTW-Did you know that it would have been considered a hate crime if it had been an AA, gay, or religious group-but women are not protected by hate crimes law.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-10-30 03:55:59

and yet women are murder in astronomically huge numbers — simply because they are women. The hate crimes against women is huge but rarely ever called hate crime.

I remember years ago arguing with WOMEN about whether rape could really happen — they believed there was no such thing as rape. These were women — totally ignorant women — misogynistic women.

Very few girls get through to adulthood without some sort of unwanted sexual encounter or assault.

I would have been just as pissed if it image was Mrs. Obama hanging from that rope. But then she’s black and there would be outrage — because of the color of her skin and not her sex.

This is probably one of my major reasons for voting for Palin — because she knows, she is aware of what it is like growing up female in a man’s world. She’s not perfect — none of us are — but we need more women in the highest offices in the land who can make a difference — because they care.

How about the double standards — Palin is beautiful therefore she must be a bimbo.

Some say that Obama is handsome (gag) — but no one has said that because they believe him to be handsome — therefore he must be a himbo and dumb.

Well, we know the polls are over-cooked like soggy spaghetti.

Uppity pointed out in her Gallop Poll post of last night — this is a two point race, according to them, then they also offer their new “expanded” polling model that is used just for Barky. This model has never been used in the presidential race before. What does this tell you?

We will only know the real story next Tuesday. I wouldn’t expect much honest reporting from pollsters or the MSM before then.

Let’s just hope their are enough poll watchers on the ground to prevent fraud.

She played her part. obama has no use for her any more so under the bus she went. This is the craziest election ever.

The Times could not determine their immigration status and an official at Boston City Hall said that Ms Onyango was a resident of Flaherty Way but not registered to vote on the electoral roll. However, that Ms Onyango made a contribution to the Obama campaign would indicate that she is a US citizen.

Haha… like making a contribution to the Obama campaign necessarily means you’re a US Citizen.

Maybe it’s because there are so many other blogs - like NQ - that folks are reading for news (also Free Republic, etc.).

There are other choices.

My brother loves Drudge, but I just don’t like his layout - it’s too overwhelming.

I prefer NoQuarter, Free Republic and American Thinker.

Thank you so much for this, Wendy.

And on a similar note, according to Hillbuzz, Team Hillary believes McCain will WIN New Hampshire, Iowa and Maine!

- NH and Maine largely because of Joe the Plumber (0bama’s spread the wealth nightmare) AND Sarah Palin - the people in these states love her - and they’re very comfortable with women in public office all over both those states (think Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins - many female mayors and city officials)

- Iowa largely because of team 0bama’s caucus fraud and his Chicago thugs all over the state (per Hillbuzz: “We were told tonight that no one is yet picking up on the fact that Democrats in states that held caucuses, and who saw firsthand the fraud, voter intimidation, and other vile tricks Obama pulled in caucus states have NOT forgotten about any of this. These people are still LIVID that a Democrat dared to use Chicago fraud and intimidation to game the caucus system. The Clinton delegates from caucus states have been coordinating efforts amongst themselves for payback against Obama on November 4th…”

Former Hillary campaign workers in those states say they “have never seen enthusiasm for a Democratic candidate so low — or fear of small-business-killing socialism so high.”

Lots more about this at Hillbuzz - hmmmmm….somehow I’m getting the feeling that a lot of democrats in caucus states are plenty pissed off. And I’m getting a pretty good feeling about November 4!

I just did. I want to believe it but then is it too good to be true? To say Maine is comfortable with female politicians is the same argument used for Hillary win in February — which didn’t come true. Since the people relaying the info are BO workers, what are the chances they are just feeding false info?

They really deserve to be horsewhipped for their failure to look out for the interests of the Amiercan people. I thought that’s what freedom of the press was all about — well, at least I hoped.

This is about the infomercial and says it was misleading, calls him out on many points! and so quickly, too. AP has been rather pointedly favorable in their headlines and I see it as a definite change.

FirstRead on MSNBC says people are voting against BO and (wait for it) they’re NOT racist, John King called out biased journalism on CNN the other day, and now AP criticizing THE ONE. Hmmmmm….

I think the reality is suddenly hitting at least some in the MSM - 0bama’s probably gonna LOSE. They should know - they’re the ones who’ve had to cook the polls and skew every single bit of coverage for months and months and months. Now they’re finally figuring out it hasn’t worked.

Anyway, that’s what I think…

In that link it says that in Obama’s informercial he said “Here’s what I’ll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year…” but not that long ago, wasn’t it $250,000? Soon it’ll be $150,000…then $100,000. Who knows how low he’ll go. He’s gonna have to dig deep into a lot of people’s pockets to afford to do the things he wants to do.

Comment by bethtopaz | 2008-10-29 23:47:53

That’s what Joe the Plumber said. He said that next it will be $200k, then $150k, then $100k and when will it end? It’s a slippery slope.

I wish BO would take his scrawny little ass and slide right down his own little slippery slope of lies and deceptions into a deep, dark hole, never to be seen again.

Comment by HillaryOrMcCain | 2008-10-29 23:52:20

MSM always raving about the huge crowds that B.O. draws. But they never mention that there’s ususally a free concert attached to it. The latest one is one here in Tampa this coming Sunday. A free concert by Jimmy Buffet for Obama at a huge venue, The Ford Amphitheater. They don’t confirm whether B.O. will make an appearance or not. Anyway, a gal said that Obama.org says come get your free tickets at designated early voting locations. She went to get hers & they insisted she either go on and vote early for B.O. Comment by Galt, Master Thrall of Planet Triskelion | 2008-10-29 23:16:51

The airing of the tape can take place any time from this day and due to its sensitivity, people who will inquire from Fox News and API for details will either get a no comment answer or that there is no agreement on the table.

That’s from the API link. How convenient. You actually believe this?

I read this post the other day and now wonder if it’s at all related to this person or if it’s simply one more–

Ok, I want to clear my conscious a little. Hopefully you could make a blog post to help some fellow clinton supporters out.

I work for a campaign and can’t wait for this week to be over.

I was doing it for a job. I was not a fan of any candidate but over time grew to love HRC.

The internal campaign idea is to twist, distort, humiliate and finally dispirit you.

We pay people and organize people to go to all the online sites and “play the part of a clinton or mccain supporter who just switched our support for obama”

We do this to stifle your motivation and to destroy your confidence.

We did this the whole primary and it worked.

Sprinkle in mass vote confusion and it becomes bewildering. Most people lose patience and just give up on their support of a candidate and decide to just block out tv, news, websites, etc.

This surprisingly has had a huge suppressing movement and vote turnout issues.

Next, we infiltrate all the blogs and all the youtube videos and overwhelm the voting, the comments, etc. All to continue this appearance of overwhelming world support.

People makes posts to the effect that the world has “gone mad”

Thats the intention. To make you feel stressed and crazy and feel like the world is ending.

We have also had quite a hand in skewing many many polls, some we couldn’t control as much as we would have liked. But many we have spoiled over. Just enough to make real clear politics look scarey to a mccain supporter. Its worked, alough the goal was to appear 13-15 points ahead.

see, the results have been working.
People tend to support a winner, go with the flow, become “sheeple”

The polls are roughly 3-5 points in favor of Barack. Thats due to our inflation of the polls and pulling in the sheeple.

Our donors, are the same people who finance the MSM. Their interests are tied, Barack then tends to come across as teflon. Nothing sticks. And trust, there were meetings with Fox news. The goal was to blunt them as much as possible. Watch Bill Oreilly he has become much more diplomatic and “fair and balanced” and soft. Its because he wants to retain the #1 spot on cable news and to do that he has to have access to the Obama campaign and we worked hard at stringing him a long and keeping him soft for an interview swap. It worked and now he is anticipating more access. So he is playing it still soft.

This is why nothing sticks.

The operation is massive, the goal is to paint a picture that is that of a winner, regardless of the results.

There is no true inauguration draft or true grant park construction going on. There will be a party, but we are boasting beyond the truth to make it seem like the election is wrapped up.

Our goal is to continue to make you lose your moral. We worked hard at persuasion and paying off and timing and playing the right political numbers to get key republican endorsements to make it seem even more like it was over and the world was coming to an end for you all.

There is a huge staff of people working around the clock, watching every site, blogs, etc. We flood these sites. We have had a goal to overwhelm.

The truth is here. I could go on and on, but you get the picture.

I am saying this because I know HRC was better for the country, and now realize this. I was too late by the time I connected to her. To me Barack was just a cool young dude that seemed like a star. I didn’t know him or his policies, but now I understand more than I care to and I realize his interests are more for him, and the DNC and all working like puppets with dean. I always thought a president wanted the better good for the country. The end result I see is everyone dependent on the government, this means more and more people voting for the DNC. This means the future is forever altered. I don’t see this as america, so I am now supporting John Mccain.

Sarah Palin is a huge threat, and our campaign has feared her like you can’t imagine. If it seems unfair how she has been treated, well its because she has had a team working round the clock to make her look like a fool.

this is a big conspiracy and I am so shocked that its not realized.

We released a little blurb the other day that the Obama campaign was already working on reelection and now putting our efforts towards 2012. This was to make it seem like it was above us to continue caring about 2008. Trust me, its a lie. David is very smart, but its a sticky ugly not very truthful kind of intelligence.

Its not over yet, but I think the machine is working. And its a hill to climb.

I will be quitting my post on nov 5th and my vote will be for John Mccain. Fortunately, my position has been a marketing position and I don’t feel I had any part of anything I would feel guilty for. But I look forward to getting out of this as the negativity and environment upsets me.

I wish you all well, and goodluck.

PS my name is not really sarah. but I am a female and I understand your plight.

Comment by Ani | 2008-10-29 23:04:45

I’ve seen this posted and reposted a bunch of places — I don’t think this is related to Wendy. Whether this particular piece is authentic or not as to the person ‘confessing’, the tactics described therein certainly seem accurate.

To the extent that people reading about the misinformation and intentional efforts to demoralize McCain voters, realize that in reality he is doing much better than the media would have us believe — that in itself is helpful.

Comment by No Way, No How, NoBama | 2008-10-29 23:24:11

As a Republican, NoQuarter is a tremendous comfort to me.

I feel so happy that I have become united with my long lost American brothers and sisters who were once Democrats.

I believed all the lies, too - that people in the other party hated America.

WaPo: Obama Accepting Untraceable Donations

Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is allowing donors to use largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor’s identity, campaign officials confirmed.

Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged. Instead, the campaign is scrutinizing its books for improper donations after the money has been deposited.

The Obama organization said its extensive review has ensured that the campaign has refunded any improper contributions, and noted that Federal Election Commission rules do not require front-end screening of donations.

In recent weeks, questionable contributions have created headaches for Obama’s accounting team as it has tried to explain why campaign finance filings have included itemized donations from individuals using fake names, such as Es Esh or Doodad Pro. Those revelations prompted conservative bloggers to further test Obama’s finance vetting by giving money using the kind of prepaid cards that can be bought at a drugstore and cannot be traced to a donor.

The problem with such cards, campaign finance lawyers said, is that they make it impossible to tell whether foreign nationals, donors who have exceeded the limits, government contractors or others who are barred from giving to a federal campaign are making contributions.

“They have opened the floodgates to all this money coming in,” said Sean Cairncross, chief counsel to the Republican National Committee. “I think they’ve made the determination that whatever money they have to refund on the back end doesn’t outweigh the benefit of taking all this money upfront.”

The Obama campaign has shattered presidential fundraising records, in part by capitalizing on the ease of online giving. Of the $150 million the senator from Illinois raised in September, nearly $100 million came in over the Internet.

Lawyers for the Obama operation said yesterday that their “extensive back-end review” has carefully scrubbed contributions to prevent illegal money from entering the operation’s war chest. “I’m pretty sure if I took my error rate and matched it against any other campaign or comparable nonprofit, you’d find we’re doing very well,” said Robert Bauer, a lawyer for the campaign. “I have not seen the McCain compliance staff ascending to heaven on a cloud.”

The Obama team’s disclosures came in response to questions from The Washington Post about the case of Mary T. Biskup, a retired insurance manager from Manchester, Mo., who turned up on Obama’s FEC reports as having donated $174,800 to the campaign. Contributors are limited to giving $2,300 for the general election.

Biskup, who had scores of Obama contributions attributed to her, said in an interview that she never donated to the candidate. “That’s an error,” she said. Moreover, she added, her credit card was never billed for the donations, meaning someone appropriated her name and made the contributions with another card.

When asked whether the campaign takes steps to verify whether a donor’s name matches the name on the credit card used to make a payment, Obama’s campaign replied in an e-mail: “Name-matching is not a standard check conducted or made available in the credit card processing industry. We believe Visa and MasterCard do not even have the ability to do this.

These tactics started with Hillary Clinton and continue, growing even more disgusting with Gov. Palin. I was a Hillstar for Hillary and an avid supporter. Trashing two women clearly in a sexist manner in one election is an outrage and must be identified and stopped. There must be consequences. Comment by McGalt, Master McThrall of Planet McTriskelion | 2008-10-30 00:51:47

Thanks. I make weird ass connections others would never think of.

We should change that a bit to read:

“Don’t forget in addition to being Vice-President, the Sarahcuda will be President of the Senate as well. She can lob moose shit at Obama and Biden from the podium in the Senate chambers!”

I’m looking forward to Keith Overbite being a foot stool with Sarah spiking him with her heals

He might actually enjoy that so maybe she bring a whip along with Matthews on a leash.

Comment by PJ | 2008-10-30 00:11:15

Not good - Matthews would like it.

Of course Obama is a sexist pig, remember when he was at some rally and he used his middle finger to itch himself while talking about Hillary Clinton, this is no different. He is a disgusting sexist pig, along with a lot of other things(racist, scumbag, liar, fraud, must I continue LOL) the happiest day in my life will hopefully be when Obama has to give his concession speech, but before doing that calling Sarah Palin and CONGRATULATING HER for becoming our 47th Vice President. Now that will be AWESOME!!

Comment by Firefly | 2008-10-29 23:50:47

Just in case ya’ll don’t remember that middle finger “itch” (yeah, right!) or ya just feel like getting pissed off all over again, thought I put up the YouTube video again.

I was willing to give that maybe he was only scratching his face, but when he realized how his audience was interpreting the gesture and then just grinned and went on, I was appalled.

If he had stopped and said, “no, that’s not what I meant” it would have been a stand up moment.

The problem with Obama is he always votes ‘present’ on stand up opportunities. Just one of many reasons why he shouldn’t be our President.

All of these celebrities who love to trash Sarah, I find it HILARIOUS that they would NEVER EVER say it to her face. Oh geez I wonder why, its because they are COWARDS, someone on another board mentioned how Alec Baldwin(Yes the father of the year Alec Baldwin) was on the toothless wonder David Letterman trashing Sarah for the way she talks, Hey Alec, how come you didn’t have the guts to say it to her face you JACKASS

I am in love with Sarah Palin. I know she will be POTUS some day. And for the record let one of the scumbag OHitler people call her stupid. I have 167 IQ and went to college at 15. I know smart. And it’s that fabulous woman who IS on her way to the White House.

Thank you Beth. I don’t know him personally but I know who he is. There are way more Hollywood Republicans than anyone knows. Way more. I already told this story once…but I have to relive it. I am getting low on my patriotism with all the scum in this election so I get my America lover thrills where I can.

At a Hollywood Republican secret society lunch Friday…a room full of people sharing what it’s like to be stuck in the dead zone of Hollywood psycho wing nut liberals…a woman started singing the Star Spangled Banner…one by one…EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE ROOM STOOD AND PLACED THEIR HANDS OVER THEIR HEARTS. Take that you America hating scumbag OHitler. We are here, we LOVE our country, and no matter how much you piss on America, the Flag and the Constitution, we are HERE and you will go down, one way or another. I really hate this race. Had it been Hillary, it would at least be two grown ups. Not this crack addled, low rent, lying, cheating, thieving PIECE OF CRAP OHitler.

So when do they bring this home?

Prisoners in Niggertown
It’s a dirty little war

Take weapons up and begin to kill
Watch the long long armies drifting home

Their army is ACORN.
The war is this election.
Their weapon is the vote.
We, American Democracy are the target.

I was a hippie of the days of old.

We worked the phones for McCain / Palin last week in Philadelphia, calling Dems. We could not believe the results. Of the people who were willing to give an answer, my results were around 30-40% supporting McCain; my friend was getting 20-30%. And this is Philadelphia (yes, the 2008 World Series Champs)!! The polls and the reality on the ground are two very different things. Keep your chins up and volunteer for the McCain ticket. It has been one of the best things to do to lift my spirits.

Here’s another Democrat who has HAD IT with the way Sarah has been portrayed.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a room full of television industry executives, no one seemed inclined to defend MSNBC on Monday for what some were calling its lopsidedly liberal coverage of the presidential election.

The cable news channel is “completely out of control,” said writer-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat.

She added that she would prefer a lunch date with right-leaning Fox News star Sean Hannity over left-leaning MSNBC star Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann was criticized by many who attended Monday’s luncheon sponsored by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was dubbed “Hollywood, America and Election ‘08.”

Bloodworth-Thomason and others seemed especially critical of the way MSNBC — and other media — has attacked Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin while demeaning her supporters.

“We should stop the demonizing,” she said, adding that Democrats have been worse than Republicans as far as personal attacks on candidates are concerned. “It diminishes us,” she said of her fellow Democrats.

Bloodworth-Thomason even suggested a defense of Palin and her supporters should be written into TV programing, just as she went out of her way to portray Southern women as smart in her hit TV show “Designing Women.”

Has anyone in the media ever asked Obama about the sexism displayed during the primary or during the general campaigns? I would like to see him answer that question.

I saw Michelle Obama on Leno (?) commenting that her clothes were from J.Crew- obviously a planned swipe at Palin, although she commented how difficult it was to be in the national public eye suddenly. I think those two comments cancel eachother out. That was a time she could have stood up for woman. That very moment she could have made a statement on the sexism in this race and in America and she chose not to.

Comment by JP49 | 2008-10-30 11:47:18

The news media has continually demoralized us into thinking that we are all wrong and Obama will win. Don’t pay them any mind. They are liars and traitors to the United States of America. Obama is not a natural citizen of this country. Pelosi and the rest of the democratic party knew and so did Hillary and Bill. I have lost all respect for both of them. They should have stood up for the United States of America. Instead they stood up for the fraud and their political party. I cannot forgive that. This woman’s story is sad but encouraging that many are now seeing the light about this fraud. If we let the media and Obama beat us down and refuse to vote for McCain then we will get an Obama in the White House. Ignore them and vote for your country, vote McCain.

Here is a poem my daughter in law sent me this morning.

‘Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

” On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi”
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn’t stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

McCain~Palin
2008

I am a life long Democrat and a former Hillary Clinton supporter and volunteer however, I will be voting for McCain/Palin on November 4th because I believe in country first not party allegiance no matter what. I am very disappointed in Hillary and Bill Clinton because they know that Obama is not qualified to be president.

One last thing, Hillary knew about the hanging Sarah Holloween thing in West Hollywood but she never came out and said a word nor has any other prominent female democrat or Hollywood star. Well make your mind and fight for your country. Please get out and vote for McCain.

Hopefully, when the Bobo fiasco is over, the Clintons can resurrect the real Democratic Party. If it weren’t for them, I would change my affiliation to Republican. I never would have believed I would see my life-long party belittle and attack a common man like Joe the Plumber. I would have never believed they would go so far over the far-left cliff that they would excuse domestic terrorists, Jew-haters, infanticide-supporters, sex-ed-for-kindergarteners advocates, and a whole laundry list of diabolical schemers and Marxist revolutionaries! They have bombed the path for any other black candidate in the foreseeable future and given the GOP enough political dynamite to last for decades. The long national nightmare will, in a sense, be over in a few days, but the lingering effects will last and last.
