John McCain on SNL * Open Thread!

What else is going on in the world? Are there football games today? (Laughing because I have had to give up all sports until the election is over, and I don’t know anything about even my own favorite team.)

…………..

Thanks to American Girl in Italy for giving us the SNL code!

Let’s see…a woman in So. Cal. refused to take down her effigy of Obama being hung and stabbed. Graffiti artists of the skinhead persuasion are now being sought for death threats to Obama. Reward offered. An effigy of Obama being hung in the Midwest earned the guy an arrest for hate crimes. We all know what happened in the Palin effigy.

Halloween has been tough on local police. :)

Comment by standard | 2008-11-02 11:11:15

Threats on Obama always occur just before an important election.
I’m sure it isn’t a calculated Axelrod presentation.

Comment by Linda | 2008-11-02 11:22:13

Yes, don’t you remember the first ones? When BO asked for his security during the Primary? It turned out not to be a real threat, they just thought it was smart. It was Axelrod and GIBBS all over it.

Comment by pamOBSP | 2008-11-02 11:24:03

I heard from people he wanted a level playing field with Hillary. With her having SS protection, it appeared she was the incumbent.

Comment by Lizzie Struthers | 2008-11-02 14:41:47

Yeah sure. Axelrod’s the devil. The ultimate player. Con man.

Comment by JP | 2008-11-02 12:27:13

Sadly, I agree. It feels like it is a ‘ploy.’ Columbo had an episode about a politician, who manufactured threads to himself and thus garnered attention and sympathy. With the West Wing scripts and plot lines already in place, I would not be surprised if Axelrod had plagiarized this one from TV as well.

Gotta wonder…

Comment by JP | 2008-11-02 12:32:34

threats, not threads…

and the episode of columbo is called “Candidate for crime”

Comment by Lizzie Struthers | 2008-11-02 14:44:23

Actually WW borrowed from Axelrod. For the Smits arc. He was consulted for that. Don’t remember if it was Obama or Patrick or both that caught their eye.

Comment by scorbs | 2008-11-02 18:03:07

Reminds me of terrorist alerts that Bush used to scare everyone and drum up sympathy for him.

Comment by makeji | 2008-11-02 11:31:07

The Palin effigy was taken down two days ago at the behest of the West Hollywood Mayor. Women are not considered in the law regarding hate crimes. We still have the 1st Amendment, which sometimes doesn’t always sit well, but does protect us as well as THEM.

Comment by KintheNorthwest | 2008-11-02 11:43:53

The owners of the Effigy took it down when a neighbor hung up an effigy of the owners of the Palin Effigy…. Was a weird way to get a point across but it worked.

Comment by Hope Floats! Flush Twice! | 2008-11-02 12:56:17

Hung the effigy of the homeowners from his car that he parked in front of their house. People forget about the golden rule and that politicians have children, too.

Comment by Lizzie Struthers | 2008-11-02 14:57:51

Gee I’m surprised they didn’t object on the grounds they were only making fun of a woman.

Comment by Ani | 2008-11-02 12:02:11

Actually, I believe the Secret Service had to pay a visit, then the Mayor said ‘gee I guess you’d better take it down.’

Comment by jomama | 2008-11-02 13:29:07

Gender is included in the CA ‘hate crime’ statute.

As defined in California Penal Code section 422.55, hate crime means “a criminal act committed, in whole or in part, because of one or more of the following actual or perceived characteristics of the victim: (1) Disability, (2) Gender, (3) Nationality, (4) Race or ethnicity, (5) Religion, (6) Sexual orientation, (7) Association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.

Sounds like a good law.

If they’re tuning in to SNL, they tuned in for a reason. They like to know their leader is strong and can brush things off and shows a sense of humor. ALL OF THAT makes a great leader.

Yep, Barry “Schultz(I KNOW NO THING)” Obama, no humility or sense of humor. The guy is a dictorial, angry hustler.

Comment by Lizzie Struthers | 2008-11-02 15:03:05

It’s his total lack of humour that’s a total giveaway.

That and his omnivorous wife, his arrogance, his inability to smile or project true human warmth, his coached way of stumping like a Baptist minister, his backpedaling, his stance on NAFTA, on FISA, on campaign financing…

Actually it’s a lot closer call than I first thought. Ha!

Comment by jrterrier | 2008-11-02 13:46:34

this needs to be played over and over in coal country. and it once again shows that obama/biden are willing to plain out lie, look voters in the eye and lie. what is it about the west coast that leaves them disarmed to say what they really think?

I think John’s good humor and solid perspective on the election comes through. He’s not ever going to be Mr. Smooth. But he’s got a rapier wit and a sensibility that is very appealing.

Love the “going rogue” moment. VERY clever skit.

The other thing that is happening is that the latest poll dump is showing John back in the lead in key swing states, such as MO, FL, and Ohio. VA is neck and neck. In fact, Obama is only 5 points ahead in CO.

It’s virtually neck and neck. Yet the pundits can’t quite seem to grasp this. So the Sunday editorials are all future-oriented, talking about his administration. LOL*

It’s truly schizophrenic. It’s like they cannot STAND that John has actually made a comeback. They’d like to skip over this pesky voting process.

Comment by barry bums a ciggie | 2008-11-02 11:14:06

I’m in CO and can’t seem to gauge what the situation is for barry. Denver is pro-o but outside of Denver, not so much. Palin will be here Monday night so we’ll see what kind of crowd she draws again.

Comment by Tuppence411 | 2008-11-02 11:31:31

I am wondering about CO too. But I just can’t imagine the home state of Focus on the Family and so many megachurches are going to concede the election without a big get out the vote evangelical push.

Personally, as a Catholic Democrat, I believe Democrats have always greatly underestimated the power of the Sunday morning before election.

Comment by barry bums a ciggie | 2008-11-02 11:38:37

I hate to say this but there’s a lot of white guilt here, I had people tell me we owe it to the AA to put barry in the white house. Please. Also, in Denver, lots of granola types and everyone wants to be liberal-like.

Comment by Tuppence411 | 2008-11-02 11:53:20

I know what you mean. We have them here too, people who think if Barky is elected by magic the entire country will hold hands and break out into a 70’s coke commerical “I’d like to teach the world to sing…” They don’t bother me as much as the people who actual believe his bullsh!t of middle-class subsidies. In both cases, these people are delusional!

Comment by VinceP1974 | 2008-11-02 14:02:11

I find that it’s mostly the older folk who are carryihng this racism-guilt baggage with them.

I was born in 74. I grew up in Chicago in an Italian neighborhood. We hated everyone else equally.

But seriously, the attitude of everyone I knew was.. every group picks on every other group, but in America with enough hard work and dedication, the only one who could stop you is you. My older relatives would tell me how the Irish did so many bad things to them when they immigrated but it didn’t matter because they didn’t come to get stopped by drunks. (as they put it)

The lesson was: Life isn’t fair. Too bad! No one exists to make you happy or feed you. Work or starve.

And that’s the way I feel. Is there racism ? Yes. Do I need to be guilty of America’s past racism? No I am not guilty.

My family wasn’t here in the 1800s, we are not the British, we didn’t live in the South. They were in Italy.. living a life of what I’m told was destitution and hard labor.

So going back to my age, I grew up after the fights for Civil Rights was pretty much complete (as least as far as legal frameworks go).

It’s always been illegal to discriminate for employment and other things by race, etc..

I don’t view my society as unjust.

I think maybe the older folks do… I do know one thing though.. this guilt they have with them still is just a sign of their narcissism. They’re so narcissist that even the sins of the past are all about them.

And by foisting this dangerous fraud as President, they again make his election all about their own narcissistic obsessions.

Comment by ritamary | 2008-11-02 23:13:11

Very smart analysis! I am from Chicago too, but I was born in 1949 and I am Irish-American. My mother remembered when newspaper employment sections advertised jobs that said “Irish need not apply.”

As you said, our ancestors were not here when there was slavery in the South. And our families never lived in the South. So why the guilt trip?

I have to say I’ve seen an unusual amount of McCain signs (or down ticket republican signs) in the parts of Denver I’ve been around. And still many less O signs than there were Kerry signs 4 years ago. Although I expect Denver to go blue as usual, I’m wondering if there won’t be a stronger showing for McCain than expected.

Comment by Dee | 2008-11-02 12:04:21

Guilt cries are smokescreens for candidates without any real substance.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-11-02 13:17:56

Denver is where all the liberals stopped who thought that the Rockies were the edge of the world.
I was born there so I get to say shit about my “hometown.”
Denver has always been the “Hey! We’re Sophisticated and Liberal Too!” city since the flash in the pan in Cherry Creek.
In one of my more recent visits, I couldn’t help thinking how old and brown everything was.
I’m not surprised that “The Mile High” city is reflecting the negative effects of very long term high altitude snootiness.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-11-02 12:03:30

Indiana….back to having McCain ahead. These are the Mason-Dixon polls, I’m citing, btw….not the media polls.

Most important, the momentum is definitely with McCain.

Who will close the deal?

7% still undecided in PA.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-11-02 12:40:41

And I understand Catholic Bishops are weighing in on this election as never before, not simply as a group but as individual protest voices. That live abortion bill is a disaster for Obama, no matter how he spins it. And Pelosi publically locking horns with Church officials over abortion was a dumb and arrogant thing to do. With the lay population there may be varied views, but with official Church teaching? Never. It hasn’t changed an iota since I was a kid.

Catholics = @ 65 million voters. Take the lion’s share of that voting block and you win the election.

Comment by tzada | 2008-11-02 12:54:15

Catholic priests had a top of the Drudge ad for several days, asking people to not elect pro abortion candidates. It was on the roll over banner.

I have a friend in Boulder, CO. She told me that she is working Boulder for O every weekend, going door to door. She feels in order for CO to go blue, Boulder has to have a big turnout. Interestingly, she said she is very nervous about the election and cannot wait for it to be over. I was wondering if CO is so in the bag for O, why so nervous?

I know Boulder is very blue but I do not know CO overall very well, so I do not know about her theory about Boulder turning the election for O.

Comment by CBDenver | 2008-11-02 18:29:49

Yes, the city of Denver and “the republic of Boulder” are very liberal. But Denver-area suburbs are Republican and evangelical. The other areas (more rural) tend toward conservative. Of course Colorado Springs are miltary (conservative leaning) and evangelical. Turn out is everything, that is why the local media (Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News) are doing all they can to supress the vote by all but declaring an Obama victory. My gut feeing is that Colorado is not at all “in the bag” for Obama.

They should read the editorial in the WSJ from Nobel prize-winning economist Vernon Smith about how Obama WILL RAISE YOUR TAXES. (”How’s Obama Going to Raise $4.3 Trillion?,” op-ed, Oct. 24)

Comment by jrterrier | 2008-11-02 13:48:34

it’s worse than that. they’ve been trying to create a myth that obama has an overwhelmint lead to discourage mccain supporters from voting because it’s over. or perhaps worse, and i hate to become a conspiracy monger, so everyone will believe it when the O steals the election.

Comment by Liz B | 2008-11-02 15:56:37

I am almost cetain this has made it’s way to Hannity, but the guy can only do so much (considering he has to work alone to out Obama) but, this is a major dealbreaker in VA. Yes, the wealth is here in Northern Virginia, and they don’t give a damn about coal miners, but take a trip down Hwy. 81, from the top of the state to the bottom, and go west towards KY and WV and east all the way to Charlottesville. These are places where the folks may not all be coal miners, but they most certainly know some miners. I suspect this is not good news for a state that Tim Kaine tries to paint a pretty picture of whn he’s on t.v., economy wise, that is in all actuality 2.9 billion dollars in the red. Not a total bust, but Gilmore had it in the black, if I am not mistaken. What about states that have coal mining as a Major source of their economy? WV, KY, OH, PA all come to mind. Haven’t these states seen enough economic hardship? THIS could make the difference in those states. I hope it spreads like wildfire in the next 72 hours.
Hey Barack, can you say something about shutting down steel mills, auto plants, and, um… how about ski resorts (we need to seal the deal in CO) is i jus me, or do San Francisco crowds just bring out the stupid in Obama?

OT, but important, we need to vote gop in our state contests, just in case Barack gets in, we need to insure that Dems will not have a lock on the whole damn town of D.C. I think 60% means no chance of any filibusters. Only one thing worse than Obama as Prez with the MSM in his pocket, and that would be the addition of a filibuster free Congress.

Contrast that to the bitter hatred that seethes out of Michelle and Barack, it is frightening, the only time they smile is when they are attacking someone !!!It is truly hard to fathom how anyone can seriously vote for Obama.

Just another issue that the “Emperor of the World” lied on. Joey, too. One is caught on audio and I actually saw the vid on Joey B., about which he lied at the debate with Palin.

So, the coal miners and the entire industry is under the bus.

Better stock up on candles and kerosene lamps. What a bunch od frauds! We sit in the dark until alternative energy sources come on line?

This is pandering at its best. Tell a specific crowd, a particular voting block exactly what they want to hear [just don't get caught on tape]

Here’s hopin’ we wake up.

He wouldn’t allow it. Too much ego.

Man, he was blasted for his arrogance today in a blistering editorial on RCP.

The guy took him to the woodshed for his ego.

Comment by DAB | 2008-11-02 11:21:55

Exactly. Obama just can’t seem to muster any self-deprecation. Apparently he was asked to appear last night but turned it down — hence, JM’s big opportunity! McCain was totally charming and I thought that Cindy’s cameo was a neat touch.

I can’t really complain about SNL’s script in this instance. I thought that Palin was shortchanged and despite the poor opening script came out smelling like a rose.

Mac’s short appearance on Evening Update was also quite good. I don’t want to see our “sad grandpa” be sad anymore. VOTE McCain/Palin. I already did in FL.

Comment by Hope Floats! Flush Twice! | 2008-11-02 13:10:45

I don’t think Obama was offered that spot. Lorne Michaels is an unapologetic Republican, and McCain is well-known for his sense of humor. He’s been on the show over the years, and he did great last night.

Agreed! WAY OVERDUE. Exactly illustrates creepy Keith as the uber-jerk that he has evolved into. I heard that after he crashed the SNL set during rehearsals he said that it was funny and would give him a lot of publicity.

Guess he didn’t really see himself in the proper light — you know, the way OTHERS will see him.

Comment by Indy | 2008-11-02 11:36:04

I laughed myself into tears during that skit. He had every Olby mannerism down and properly magnified. And McCain displayed his fine humor and ability to poke fun at himself. I think a sense of humor is indispensable in life and difficult times, and The One has none.

Comment by Tuppence411 | 2008-11-02 12:00:05

“The View” skit was very funny too. Poking fun at how absolutely irrelevant they are. My favorite comic piece lampooning “The View” has to go to Dennis Miller. When Whoopie seriously asked McCain if strict constitutionalist meant she had to worry about becoming a slave, Miller said John should have turned to her and asked “What hope diamond size piece of crack did you smoke before the show?”

Comment by Indy | 2008-11-02 12:06:04

I agree they are irrelevant, I have never watched that show in my life (which is why that skit fell flat for me, I guess). Now Miller’s quote is hilarious…wish I would have seen that.

Sure wish she’d skipped taking that phone call.

Comment by McHope | 2008-11-02 11:28:55

Ann,
This is not a big deal. She did nothing wrong and those pranksters have done this to Sarkozy himself.
She was nothing but cordial.
Besides, it’s more important to wonder how these people are gaining access to private contact numbers of Government officials than whether Palin was nice to them or not.
Imagine if she were offensive to them, the press would be screaming that she were not capable of diplomacy.
Imagine she called them out as phonies, they would be screaming that she could have offended a true foreign leader.
She, like us, would not be expecting this type of call to reach her directly.

Now, consider also, Obama’s actual talks with actual leaders, of which he had no right to conduct.
As in
-Using taxpayer funds as Senator to campaign for and influence the elections in Kenya
–Leading Iraqi leaders to believe they should stall US troop withdrawl to accomodate his political purposes

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-11-02 11:33:19

I hope you’re right. I did say that the fact he’s pulled this on other leaders helps.

Comment by NoTrollZone | 2008-11-02 11:40:00

Debbie Schlussel wrote about one of the entertainment acts that night. I think this is the notorious “poem” that Obama applauded. It was said this tape could effectively kill Obama’s chances.

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/

As you all know, the Los Angeles Times is holding hostage a tape of Barack Obama at a 2003 Arab American Action Network (AAAN) dinner at which his friends, Rashid Khalidi, William Ayers, and Bernadine Dohrn were in attendance. It’s the story I started when Los Angeles Times plagiarist/”reporter” Peter Wallsten ripped off my January column on Barack Obama’s Nation of Islam staffers and friendship with AAAN founder Ali Abunimah.

But here’s what you haven’t yet heard: that a kids’ dance troupe that appeared at the event has a history of simulating beheadings and stomping on American, Israeli, and British flags.

Reports of the partial guest list at the 2003 dinner include “the Sanabel Debka troupe”, but the group’s name is really “Sanabel AlQuds Dabka troupe.” Sanabel means “grains” or “kernels” (of wheat or barley) in Arabic. AlQuds, or “The Holy”, is the Muslim name for Jerusalem, which is ripped-off from the eternal Hebrew name for Jerusalem, “Ir Kadosh”, or Holy City.

The Milwaukee-based Muslim kids dancing troupe purports to perform the debka, a Middle-Eastern step-dance. But this group, made up of mostly Palestinian Muslims and under the auspices of the Milwaukee Muslim American Society does far more in its “performance.” And it’s frightening.

In June 2004, I went undercover and attended a Dearborn fundraising dinner for Islamic Relief, the Muslim Brotherhood charity that is a front for HAMAS and Al-Qaeda. The event was MC’ed by Rayed Tayeh, who orchestrated the Starbucks Coffee boycott and who is believed to be a HAMAS operative.

Sanabel AlQuds performed to songs calling for martyrdom to “get back Palestine.” The kids were young boys, some of them appearing to be no older than seven years old.

But they didn’t just dance the debkah.

Suddenly the Sanabel AlQuds dancers pulled out fake swords and rifles and adorned three of their troupe respectively with an American, Isreaeli, and British flag. The others pretended to behead and/or shoot the boys wearing the flags. Then they put red scarves over the three boys heads, signifying blood and no head. Then, the flags were taken off, thrown to the ground, and trampled on by this young group of Milwaukee dancers.

This was on the Sunday that U.S. contractor Paul Johnson was found beheaded in Saudi Arabia and not long after Nicholas Berg and several other westerners were found beheaded in Iraq.

Once I saw this “performance” I realized why there were signs all over saying, “No video equipment or cameras allowed.”

I wrote about this in 2004 in my review of “Fahrenheit 9/11″, because it featured Obama surrogate John Conyers who was at the Sanabel AlQuds performance and just loved it:

Take the June 13 Muslim American Society fundraising dinner for Islamic Relief, a charity with links to the Muslim Brotherhood. Conyers and his wife were the guests of honor. They watched and clapped as the Sanabel AlQuds “dancing” troop from Milwaukee–featuring boys as young as seven–sang in Arabic of martyrdom and jihad for Allah and Palestine. They didn’t need to understand Arabic, as the young boys used a rifle to simulate killing and pistol-whipping, simulated throat-slittings and beheadings, and dishonored the American flag.

Some pictures of Sanabel AlQuds Dabka troupe hint at some of this and show the kids dancing with swords (see above).

I also wrote about it in August 2006, because I’m sick and tired of the tens of millions the Mormon Church, the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, has been giving this group, Islamic Relief:

The evening’s “entertainment” consisted of young boys–some apparently as young as seven–simulating beheadings and shootings of other young boys who donned the American, Israeli, and British flags. Then they put red scarves over their heads to symbolize blood . . . and no head.

While I do not know if Sanabel AlQuds performed this particular “dance” for Barack and Michelle Obama and other guests at this dinner, I know that this was their performance in the summer of 2004, just a year after the dinner that is the subject of the videotape the Los Angeles Times will not release. It may be that this same “act” was performed for the Obamas, but that it was not part of the tape, which would be why L.A. Times plagiarist/”reporter” Peter Wallsten did not write about it.

Still, why is Barack Obama hanging out with young kids who simulate beheadings of Americans and Jews on a regular basis?

Maybe they can perform their unique, halal version of the debka at an Inaugural Ball. I’m sure the Secret Service would make an allowance for the swords . . . for the sake of political correctness.

I think a little piece on the bios of Ayers and McVeigh, their commonalities and vision for America would be suitable.

That lady is NOT Obama’s grandmother. She is the co-wife of his grandmother. Obama’s grandfather had several wives. His real grandmother left the family long before he was born.

I don’t buy this theory that he was born in Kenya. Kenya is a Third World country. Anyone who would choose to give birth there is absolutely insane. There are many issues to attack Obama on, but this one is not going to fly.

If I hear about the Bradley Effect on more time I will do a Keith O and my head will blow off. I lived in Los Angles in the 80″s and volunteered for Tom Bradley. What people fair to mention is that Mayor Bradley never thought he lost because of race, it was a major gun initiative on the ballot, which bought out Republicans. And people also tend to forget, that CA has elected more Republican Governors than Dems.

Comment by pamOBSP | 2008-11-02 11:22:03

I made the comment because that is all I’m hearing this morning from the talking heads. That the only way Mac will win is because of the Bradley effect.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-11-02 11:28:50

I think that theory is bunk. People aren’t talking because people hate to talk politics 90% of the time. THIS year? Only a social boob brings it up.

My friend was at a USC game, and someone was talking a bit loudly about the election. A woman behind her said loudly: “No politics. We’re here to have fun.” My friend said everyone joined in and said, “Yes, enough already.”

I liked the kids who sang yesterday, “Everyone gets to vote their own way.”

That’s respectful. And the pollsters are pests. The only good thing to come of the polling during the GE is that they have so overpolled and have clearly been all over the map that, for the first time, they have truly made themselves irrelevant to the public.

Nobody believes this race isn’t tight as a drum.

Everyone will vote.

I don’t know about other Republican strongholds, but where I live, it’s 80% Republican. I’ve always been a minority here. And we have a lot more polling places. :)

Our lines won’t be dreadfully long. *haha

Comment by Hope Floats! Flush Twice! | 2008-11-02 13:32:29

I have heard totally different things from the campaigns’ internal polls. When a McCain pollster discussed the election, he said NJ, PA and MI are competitive, that even CA is close, though no one believes it will be anything but blue. They don’t think Obama has paid attention to blue states. He wanted to flip red states and show off, but his voter fraud might not be enough to do that. If VA is called for McCain by 9, I think it looks good.

Comment by Shiloh | 2008-11-02 12:10:18

The Bradley effect is supposedly about true racists who will vote against a candidate merely because he is black. What we are seeing this year is the Obama effect which is different. The Obama effect is about people are are fed up with being told they are racist if the don’t vote for Obama. A McCain sticker means you are racist. They are the people who are quietly angry and may use this election to voice their frustration with a lot of things about race in this country. Call it what you will, but an X effect will be there. it is the only way to explain the dramatic increase in the percentage of people who refuse to participate in polls.

Comment by Hope Floats! Flush Twice! | 2008-11-02 13:35:28

The Bradley Effect is supposed to be the Democrats who are ashamed to admit the black candidate scares them. They lie to pollsters, because they are afraid of being called a racist. So many people have been called racists this year, I don’t think it matters.

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-11-02 13:41:52

I don’t think they are racists lying they are non-racists afraid of being CALLED racist.

Comment by JP | 2008-11-02 13:01:55

They (the MSM) are bumping up the “Bradley effect” talk now, so that they have an escape on Tuesday when Obama looses. Obama’s loss will be blamed on the Bradley effect and racism, and not Obama’s faulty performance and MSM blatant bias.

The polls are saturated with the Democratic ‘votes’ on purpose, so that the phony “Bradley effect” can be fulfilled. MSM will never eat humble pie and admit they were wrong about Obama, they want a story. And the story is how US was just not ready for a Black President.

All hogwash if you ask me.

It used to be Churchill’s line that England and America are two nations separated by a common language. It is even more true about our own states, regions and cities.
People have distinctive accents and voices and I think its funny to laugh at and enjoy the differences.
Sarah sounds much more like she’s from “Minnesotahey” than Alaska. The First Dude sounds very much like an Alaskan and even has a slight accent from his ancestral tribe too.
Remember “Northern Exposure?” The joke early on in that show was how funny the new Doctor sounded.
Vive la difference!

Today, my Massachusetts paper (published in the third largest city in the state) endorsed McCain.

I am not delusional. I know Barky Fraudbama will win MA. He will win by carrying the cities and the liberal enclaves. But in the more conservative suburbs and more rural areas, support appears evenly split. This gives me hope that in the battleground states where populations are more evenly distributed and where elite liberalism isn’t practiced as a religion, McCain can pull this out.

And of course- I believe in the PUMA Pounce on November 4th. Roar!

Comment by Tuppence411 | 2008-11-02 13:49:34

Well Margaret, Barky has a 16% lead in MA, but 18% are undecided. All things are possible :)

Comment by Zeke | 2008-11-02 15:41:52

Tup,
If you broke down the demographic on the “Poll” it would instantly show a bias in that many more calls will be to urban centers than anywhere else. The resultant fudge effect that I’ve been using is 7-8% for the PUMA’s with a guesstimate of 4-6% tossed in to reflect the imbalance of rural representation and people who simply lied to pollsters out of fear.
How does a state elect a Republican governor and still show presidential polls favoring a friend of a guy who dedicates his book to Bobby’s murderer?
If that part were stressed in Taxachusetts, it might get interesting.

David Broder of the Washington Post on Obama:

Obama is not, any more than other politicians, a paragon. He reneged on his promise to use public funds for his general election campaign, driving a stake into the heart of the post-Watergate effort to reform the campaign finance system. He rejected McCain’s invitation to hold joint town hall meetings — opening the door to the kind of tawdry exchange of charges that we have seen. In both instances, he put his personal goals ahead of the public good — a worrisome precedent.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/31/AR2008103103355.html

And this:

Unlike Bill Clinton, he [Obama] has not tried to spell out the ways in which he would propose to rewrite Democratic foreign or domestic policy. As a result, we can only guess what his real priorities — in a time of severe budget constraints and a backlog of accumulated needs — would be. One can imagine serious debates within an Obama administration and between his White House and Congress.

If anything, it’s helping those Republicans get to the polls thus countering the Obama demoralization plan to try and keep them away from the polls.

See, what everyone knows is that the only way Obama wins is if you don’t vote.

And it’s strange, isn’t high turnout usually good for the Democrat? Obama is the only I’ve seen that does worse with more turnout. Remember the primaries? He’d always lose when there was high turnout.

Comments from a Republican Iraqi War Veteran: Senator John McCain…if you lose this election, know that it was YOU who turned over our freedoms to a Marxist. It was YOU that insisted on playing nice while your opponent shoved a knife in your back. It was you that insisted on Marquess of Queensberry rules while your opponent was pushing your face in the mud. And it was YOU Senator McCain, a hero, a combat veteran, a man of great courage, who lost his nerve in the fight. If you do manage to squeak out a victory you better not screw around and play the punk again. We can’t afford half-stepping from anyone…hero or not!

Take it easy peakd:

McCain has been in a very tough spot; it is a highly racially charged election (courtesy of Obama and his Obamabots). I agree w/you his “oppo” research seems AWOL and that he should have been MUCH more aggressive and that his handling of the Ayres issue for ex. at the debates was disappointing.

But you cannot put all this blame on him. The MSM has sold out the soul of this country and they need to pay dearly; somehow…

Thank you for your service to our country on behalf of us all.

We went to the Palin rally in Raleigh last night. The people know what’s going on. Several people were asking where the media was. One commented that the press will probably say all of us outside were Obama supporters who were protesting :-) These people were hard-working, decent Americans who are concerned about taxes and Obama’s flip flopping.

There were 10k people inside and 10k outside. We got there early and listened outside in a roped off area after going through security. People are excited! They had homemade signs and t-shirts, plungers, hard hats and of course the regular tee shirts, buttons and signs. Kids were on shoulders, flashes were going off and the crowd was cheering so loud that the kids were putting their hands over their ears. It was incredible!

Sarah came outside to wave and shake a few hands. I got only a glimpse of her. I was a little bummed that if we had gotten there a 1/2 hour earlier then we would have been inside.

We talked with the two men in front of us nearly the entire 3 hours we waited in line. I mentioned how I had always voted Dem and supported Hillary. The older gentleman told me he was considering voting for her if she were the nominee. That from a staunch Republican. He actually whispered that to me so nobody else would hear..haha.

It ain’t over till it’s over! Even Bob Beckel just said on Fox that he is worried about PA.

Mason-Dixon shows McCain has pulled out ahead in NC.

Palin is just doing a fabulous job.

Well, the entire team is

McCain just seems so cool and confident lately. Does he know something we don’t? I personally think going after PA was brilliant, which is where he is today. And Palin is in Ohio. Those are the states you need. McCain will also be in NH later today and in FL tonight. Romney is in IN. Rudy will be on a call advertised here on NQ. They have all the players in action. And that’s just today. Tomorrow is even crazier with more stops in PA & NV with Palin going in most swing states. What coalition does Obama have?

If Obama loses, it’ll be because he doesn’t play well with others.

The campaigns have internal polls, things must look good for Mccain.

Oooo who ever Put This Video Together
DOES NOT LIKE OBAMA!! LOL

It’s even a bit scary but a very logical compilation of fears! Someone here might enjoy it like I did. Sharing. (it has pieces of Manning in it too)

I missed it because I was on the phone with a friend who was trying to make a case for Obama’s “Character.”

So I asked her to give me hard evidence of is character and she said: “Oh, I don’t know.”

After a little more discussion it was clear she’s going to vote Obama because her 19 year old daughter loves him.

But the good news is — out of 20 friends I’ve discussed this with (in FL, CA. CO and NY), she’s the only one voting for Obama.

And did I mention all of those 20 friends are Democrats?

McCain is very funny. Excellent appearance.
Wish we saw more of this about him, but the MSM needed a “bad” guy against Obama and McCain, Hillary, Bill and everyone else is the “scapegoat” for Obama.

So we got the “mean” McCain.

Honestly, I smell an upset out there.

one of the funnier bits on SNL was when they had the bobble dolls of joe’s: joe the plumber, joe sixpack and joe [biden] the bummer.

Probably the most accurate poll. Notice the undecided with a significant 11-12% margin. By category they are:

Midwest or Northeast
Female
Catholic
Suburban
Moderates
30-50K income
Independents
Union household

Could these be the sector of PUMA’s that left the party and are holding their vote till election day?
If so BO is in a lot of hot water.

On gretawire now:

Senator Clinton Endorsing Senator McCain?
by Greta Van Susteren
I heard that recorded calls were going to be made ….the recorded calls have tape with Senator Clinton praising Senator McCain (from the primary season??) Apparently, from the email below, it is happening:

From:
Sent: Sun Nov 02 13:50:41 2008
Subject: Hillary Endorses McCain

I just received a recorded message from Hillary Clinton endorsing John McCain.

Sue
Eldon Missouri

At the very least, it seems a robocall has been created using Hillary’s previous praise of McCain.
Good idea.

This election is NOT over!

IDP (the most accurate pollster in the 2004 election)
Just released this:
IBD/TIPP Tracking Poll has McCain down by just 2 points today, he was down 4.5 yesterday.

The poll also shows undecided voters still at almost NINE points. Mac WILL get most of the undecided voters, even BHO thinks so.

Here’s the link:

Now get off your computers and
GO TO WORK FOR JOHN MCCAIN AND SARAH PALIN!!

Volunteer HERE:
http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/StateContact.htm

Even if you live in a Blue state you can go to the McCain office and call people in PA, OH and the rest of the swing states!

Let’s work together and get this done – If for no other reason, just to see the look on Keith Olberman’s face when McCain / Palin wins the White House :)

Comment by tzada | 2008-11-02 16:23:29

I have been working at the local GOP office for McCain for the last 5 weeks. It has been exciting and if a poll meets my eye, I can say……I don’t think so. Because I am talking to people and polling them as I check for fraudulent registrations. Information gathered by me and hundreds of others help with internal polling.

Friday a car pulled up where i was holding a sign and handing out bumper stickers. They asked for one and I gave them 2. As they pulled away a young teen said I am voting for McCain, but her Obama hand sign (which looks obscene) told me different. ;)

The skit would have been much funnier with the Real Sarah Palin playing the role of Sarah Palin.

The more i watch Sarah and Listen to her on the campaign trail the more I find Tina Fey’s impersonation shrill shallow and lacking, but still funny.

She got a bit more nuanced on this skit, but i can’t really blame her, the writers for SNL just lack the deep cutting wit to take advantage of the potential from this election season. Every time i think they might they pull back.

Its a shame that SNL lacks the balls to dig hard into the treasure trove of comedy gold right infront of them on barack Obama, but then the guy they have playing Barack usually just plain sucks to begin with.

At least Tina Fey has a bit of talent.

With braver writers SNL could have esptablished themselves as a cultural powerhouse this election season…they failed.

A M E N ! ! ! !

they even rejected my scripts!!!!

damn them all to hell!!!!

I have been considering switching from regular tv to another service like satellite. I know there at a lot of options out there and wanted some advice on what I should look for or purchase. It’s sad, but I am spending about $200 a month on my tv service and I am getting less than 70 channels. I would love more channels, hd television, and a tivo/tv recording box. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.
