TODAY: Just Say No Deal Presents Closing Arguments in Nationwide Conference Call at 5 p.m. ET

ONLINE, WASHINGTON DC & NATIONWIDE - The Just Say No Deal Coalition, a group of Senator Hillary Clinton’s most ardent supporters, presents Closing Arguments: The Case for a McCain/Palin Administration via a nationwide conference call on Sunday, November 2 at 5PM Eastern.

A bipartisan team of distinguished women and men — Democrats Lady Lynn de Rothschild and Dr. Lynette Long, and Republicans Charlie Crist and Rudy Giuliani — unite to appeal to Hillary supporters, PUMAs and undecided voters to push through to election day to get out the vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.

This 90-minute conference call will be broadcast worldwide via BlogTalkRadio and NoQuarterUSA.net). Larry Johnson, the owner of NoQuarterUSA.net, will be the host. Mr. Johnson is a former counter-terrorism official and intelligence officer who served in the Reagan, Bush and Clinton administrations. Mr. Johnson became a vociferous critic of Karl Rove and of the Bush administration for their involvement in the outing of former CIA officer Valerie Plame, and he delivered the National Democratic Party’s weekly address on July 25, 2005.

Please join us at 5PM Eastern at our broadcast, Closing Arguments.

Just Say No Deal, which was born the weekend that Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign, is comprised largely of Democrats and Independents who believe in putting Country, not party affiliation, first. We have spoken out against political intimidation in the states and the blogosphere, condemned the mainstream media bias, publicized voter and caucus fraud, and criticized the refusal of the Democratic Party to disassociate itself from the fraud and corrupt actions of ACORN.

Join us at 5PM Eastern for the live broadcast of Closing Arguments: The Case for a McCain/Palin Administration. You’ll need to be registered at BlogTalkRadio to post comments in the live chat.

http://redhotandbluepolitics.com/2008/10/30/obama-infomercial-fact-check/#more-688

Filed under: Barack Obama, John McCain, Media

Author: grlpatriot

Barack Obama has come under some scrutiny after Obama For America aired a 30 minute product infomercial on Wednesday, Oct 29. Associated Press writer, Calvin Woodward, caught just some of the misleading or false claims made by Obama in the informercial:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office. Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are — beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. [emphasis added]

I would say that not only has Obama failed to specify his spending offsets, but the media has failed to question ANY of Obama’s claims during the campaign. Obama has repeatedly been taken at his word by the media with little curiosity to verify his truthfulness. When the media does look past the smoke and mirrors, we find Obama’s truthfulness lacking.

Let’s take a look at health care. The American people deserve quality, affordable health care. However, Obama continues to mislead the public on his health care positions and his health care plan(s). He makes a claim that he will lower a family’s health care costs by $2,500. Here is Obama’s spin:

THE SPIN: “That’s why my health care plan includes improving information technology, requires coverage for preventive care and pre-existing conditions and lowers health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.”

THE FACTS: His plan does not lower premiums by $2,500, or any set amount. Obama hopes that by spending $50 billion over five years on electronic medical records and by improving access to proven disease management programs, among other steps, consumers will end up saving money. He uses an optimistic analysis to suggest cost reductions in national health care spending could amount to the equivalent of $2,500 for a family of four. Many economists are skeptical those savings can be achieved, but even if they are, it’s not a certainty that every dollar would be passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums. [emphasis added]

Obama has also held two very different positions on health care within the last three years: (pre-presidential primary) single payer health care (government run health care aka “socialized medicine” like Canada and Europe); (during democratic presidential primary) market-based health care with a mandate for children only, and (general election) market-based “universal health care” with a mandate for children only. He campaigned ruthlessly against Hillary Clinton’s market-based universal health plan that included mandates, then after the primaries said his plan was “universal,” then said it wasn’t when challenged by the Republicans. Which position on health care does Obama really hold? He has stated that he supports single payer health care and a market-based system. It cannot be both, so to whom is he lying? Here is Obama’s spin:

THE SPIN: “I also believe every American has a right to affordable health care.”

THE FACTS: That belief should not be confused with a guarantee of health coverage for all. He makes no such promise. Obama hinted as much in the ad when he said about the problem of the uninsured: “I want to start doing something about it.” He would mandate coverage for children but not adults.

Here are the problems: 1) Obama has held two opposing positions on health care - government run, single payer health care (aka socialized medicine) and a market-based plan, 2) Obama has changed his positions on health care to suit his audience, 3) if he does pursue a market-based plan, then it must have a mandate to be truly universal coverage. I don’t understand how a man who has espoused his support for government run, single payer health care can also advocate for a market-based approach. What is Obama’s true and honest position on health care? Do you know, because I sure don’t.

Obama says he will cut spending, but he has proposed almost $1 trillion dollars of new spending. He will increase taxes, increase spending, and increase the deficit. Here is Obama’s spin:

THE SPIN: “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond their cost.”

THE FACTS: Independent analysts say both Obama and Republican John McCain would deepen the deficit. The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates Obama’s policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years — and that analysis accepts the savings he claims from spending cuts. [emphasis added]

McCain will cut taxes to stimulate the economy. McCain will also initially implement a spending freeze for nearly every federal program except for the Department of Defense, for veterans, and entitlement programs, then after reviewing program spending, will offset new spending with spending cuts. McCain has a proven record of cutting spending and cutting pork. Obama does not. Obama’s record doesn’t match his rhetoric on taxes and spending and his rhetoric certainly doesn’t match the economic reality. We cannot afford Obama’s proposals. Either he is making campaign promises he knows he cannot keep or he is dangerously over his head on the economy. Regardless, he is misleading the public at a time when we are most vulnerable.

Obama has repeatedly said that he will “raise taxes” for families (and small businesses) making more than $250,000. However, his cap keeps creeping down. Obama is now saying he will “raise taxes” on families (and small businesses) making more than $200,000, and his running mate, Joe Biden said this week that Obama will “raise taxes” on families making over $150,000. Here is Obama’s spin:

THE SPIN: “Here’s what I’ll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year. Give businesses a tax credit for every new employee that they hire right here in the U.S. over the next two years and eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Help homeowners who are making a good faith effort to pay their mortgages, by freezing foreclosures for 90 days. And just like after 9-11, we’ll provide low-cost loans to help small businesses pay their workers and keep their doors open. ”

THE FACTS: His proposals — the tax cuts, the low-cost loans, the $15 billion a year he promises for alternative energy, and more — cost money, and the country could be facing a record $1 trillion deficit next year. Indeed, Obama recently acknowledged — although not in his commercial — that: “The next president will have to scale back his agenda and some of his proposals.”

AP didn’t catch the wild descrepancies in Obama’s tax cap. Also, Obama would have to “raise taxes” across the board to pay for his proposals. So, either he is lying about raising taxes or his ability to fund his proposals. It cannot be both.

Obama and his campaign have been seriously misleading about his proposed tax cuts. Obama has said that he would give “tax cuts” to 95% of Americans; however, 40% of Americans don’t even pay taxes, which means they are getting a government hand out. It looks like only the people not paying taxes will get our tax dollars, while the rest of us who do pay taxes are going to foot the bill so that Obama can “spread the wealth around.”

I don’t think he is a muslim. I think the only religion he is into is the religion of “self”.

Although, I do think he has muslim sympathies. He was raised in that culture until he was 10 years old; his formulative years.

This is one of the main reasons that our founding fathers had the foresight to put the presidential requirement of being born in the USA. Not because they were anti-foreign. But because they knew that the best candidate to lead us would be the one who always puts America first.

I don’t trust Obama to do what is in the best interests of America. He is a slave to his anti American ideologies and associations. I trust his as far as I can throw him.

Comment by A-Rothschild-Victim | 2008-11-02 10:32:06

Well when America is at war with Muslims because they are Muslim, how can we have a Muslim sympathiser in the WHITE House?

[ADMINISTRATOR: As pointed out by me elsewhere in this thread, your past comments reveal that you are clearly an Obamabot who is planting comments like these at our blog in order to try to make us look racist and xenophobic. It is pathetic that you had such poor parenting that you can think of nothing better to do with your time, and that you have no class, no ethics, no decency, and no constructive alternative outlets for your foul thinking. Obama is culturally different from most Americans at a fundamental level.

Did the Democrats give us Hillary supporters a chance to elect the best candidate for President. Hell No. I’m not going to give the Dems any satisfaction this time around.

Impeach? Are you kidding me? With a Democratic controlled House and Senate as the Dems are saying will happen, impeachment won’t even make it through the front door. Hell, Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t even consider impeaching Bush, she definitely isn’t going to eat one of her own.

I see the media is starting to push that prank call to Sarah Palin from the nuts who pretended to be the French PM.

Geez this is so wrong am so sick of this kind of shit now, here we have this fool Obama saying he is going to change the world if elected and not one member of the media looks upon this statement as coming from a nut, a man with some rather strange ideas who may well control the most powerful country in the world.

I really don’t know how some view this but I am really worried for this country if Obama wins, things will change in America for the worse and it will be a world wide change, all who thinks this is not possible wait and see, and the sad thing is when this is done we will all have to live in this crap until it can be changed again.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-11-02 10:33:14

She should have suspected something was off. If you listen, the guy was outrageous.

Her gaffe. This one she’s earned.

I do understand that this has happened to some other leaders. Hopefully, that will help mitigate this.

Comment by McHope | 2008-11-02 11:08:26

She said nothing inappropriate.
All of her responses were simply cordial in nature.

Incidentally,
in 2007, they conned Sarkozy himself by impersonating Prime Minister Stephen Harper. And their 2006 call to former French president Jacques Chirac was rated by the BBC as one of the top 30 all-time best moments in radio history.

The more important question here is how on Earth are these idiots able to gain access to personal contact info of Govt officials.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-11-02 11:10:37

Same question came to my mind. How in the world, indeed. What idiotic aide doesn’t check the source of the call? *arrrggghhhh*

Frankly, it became nearly a dirty phone call. That’s when she should have figured something was up.

But yes, apparently, this guy is good at it. He’s succeeded with others.

*keeping my fingers crossed that helps*

Comment by witness08 | 2008-11-02 11:57:06

Have they posted the entire exchange of the call?
From what’s been posted, Gov.Palin’s responses to “Sarkozy” reveal a nimbleness and diplomacy on her part. Considering that she had no reason to believe it wasn’t Sarkozy it seems she handled it pretty well.

He tells Palin one of his favorite pastimes is hunting, also a passion of the 44-year-old Alaska governor.

“I just love killing those animals. Mmm, mmm, take away life, that is so fun,” the fake Sarkozy says.

He proposes they go hunting together by helicopter, something he says he has never done.

“Well, I think we could have a lot of fun together while we’re getting work done,” Palin counters. “We can kill two birds with one stone that way.”

The comedian jokes that they shouldn’t bring Cheney along on the hunt, referring to the 2006 incident in which the vice-president shot and injured a friend while hunting quail.

“I’ll be a careful shot,” responds Palin.

Playing off the governor’s much-mocked comment in an early television interview that she had insights into foreign policy because “you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska,” the caller tells her: “You know we have a lot in common also, because … from my house I can see Belgium.”

She replies: “Well, see, we’re right next door to different countries that we all need to be working with, yes.”

Do we know how she received the call? Do calls go through clearance first? Is it possible to get through directly or are calls screened first? If it passed clearance was the aide aware it was a prank and was it deliberately passed to her? You have to wonder about this.

Look back at how Obama’s won his earlier campaigns. Dirty Chicago political ploys. Axelrod and his minions must be in overdrive.

Carol,

we don’t need the Khalidi tape anymore - it’s moot at this point. We know. That is all that matters.

The LAT is protecting the Clintons and thank God they are - just like John McCain’s refusal to entertain this subject even though it may cost him the election. They do not want to be responsible or held to be the blame for violence and bloodshed that could erupt over the issue.

The ends sometimes justify the means.

I was pissed about the LAT refusal but when I realized the original article was published back in April, it became crystal clear as to why they will not release it - I understand.

Comment by McHope | 2008-11-02 11:11:25

Yes, protect the Clintons, so they can protect Obama who can then protect? Radical terrorists?

Comment by Papoose | 2008-11-02 11:19:33

I just have a feeling McHope that the Clintons’s are biding their time as usual and I don’t think they do any thing rash with out weighing the consequences. They have access and inside information on many, many things they’ve never used as ammunition.

it is my felling that they could see it backfiring on their goal 0 but more importantly, I think they have avoided all the issues that cause bloody unrest.

It’s just an opinion…

and yet, I don’t believe for one minute that they are doing anything to “protect” The One. They above all people know how dispicable the Obamas’ are and have been victims of their unAmerican activities as well as their wrath. I believe the Clintons know to all and are protecting innocent American citizens who might be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I believe they have a purpose and are biding their time.

Comment by McHope | 2008-11-02 12:16:39

I hear you. Like most here, I just loved Hillary in the primaries and have always voted straight Dem. It just continues to be disheartening to see her be complacent in this attempt by Obama to drastically change the course of our nation- one which she has professed her profound love for as well.

I caught a bit of her recent comments belittling McCain and it just seemed so meanspirited given their long standing friendship and mutual respect.
Paraphrasing, of course:
It was a Halloween inspired speech and she claimed she wanted to have the scariest mask of all, so she picked George Bush, but found she couldn’t use it because McCain wears it.
It wasn’t the attempt at humor that was so bad, but the very mean spirited tone of it.

If she wants to support Barack, she could use her name and credibility to promote what she believes is good about him without attacking collegues whom she has said she admires.

I do think , as you point out, the Clintons and others have far more information than even we do, and withholding it IS protecting him.
If what he’s done, what he knows, or what he will do will inflict undue hardship and possible violence or loss of life on American citizens, then giving him a pass and more power is not a useful deterrent.

Having said all that, I hope and pray you are right.

Darn - the broadcast will be at 3:00 PST and I will not be home nor near a phone to participate. I will be thinking of all you participants and hope I can catch up with what was said later this evening.

I was and still am a Hillary supporter, and a registered Dem. who has already voted for McCain/Palin.

A really big thanks to Larry, Susan, Uppity, Amy, and the other posters here at NQ!
Also to Shiloh, Ferd, Galt, Soldier, Sugar, who comment so eloquently!
I am very nervous about the coming days, although I am trying to remain somewhat positive. I can’t go near the TV though…each time, a mad mouth slams me!
Rally around the flag gang! We are in for a rough fight!

And not only coal-producing state, every consumer in this country needs to ask themsevles if Obama’s goal is to put such tight regulations on the coal industry that it goes bankrupt, what’s going to happen to the 49% of the electricity we use to heat and power our homes ?!! If the supply of coal powered energy is decreased, will demand on nuclear power, home heating oil and natural gas go up or down? If the demand for nuclear power, home heating oil, and natural gas goes up will my power bill go up or down?

While we can all agree that we would like to be good stewards of the environment we clearly don’t have the “clean” alternatives at this moment that could replace coal powered electricity if Obama’s policies bankrupt it.

Go McCain/Palin!
