Ayers and Obama in regular contact says source close to Obama candidacy

Steve Diamond of Global Labor and Politics blog is a professor of law and teaches courses in global capital markets, business law, international human rights and labor law. Full profile || Read his other NoQ posts, including “The Biden ‘Gaffe’: A ‘race’ for the soul of the next President?.”

The relationship between the Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate Barack Obama and Bill Ayers, the founder and leader of the now defunct terrorist organization Weather Underground, is deeper and closer than currently understood, according to an individual who has had a senior role in the Obama candidacy. Ayers has had direct contact with the candidate.

The Weather Underground was responsible for a series of bombings during the 1970s that caused extensive property damage. [Only two bomb's failures (at the front of the home and under the gas tank of the family car) kept an entire family from dying as they slept, reports John Murtagh, then the 9-year-old son of the judge whose family WU wanted to kill. See Uppity Woman's story, "When This Man Was 9 Years Old, Ayers Bombed His Home." - Ed.]

Three of the Underground’s own members died when a bomb exploded accidentally in a New York town house in 1970. Among the dead was Ayers’ girl friend at the time, Diana Oughton.

The source has stated that Obama and Ayers have a direct personal relationship that extends back to the 1980s and that there are now close ties between both Michelle and Barack Obama and Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, also a former leader of the Weather Underground. Global Labor believes the source to be highly credible but has not been able to confirm independently the comments made by the source.

The source has said that either Obama himself or his wife Michelle communicate with Ayers or Dohrn on a regular basis, up to “several times a week,” including discussions about the “vetting” of potential advisors to the campaign as well as potential appointments to staff positions in the new administration should Obama win the presidential race.

The source continues to support the Obama candidacy but has expressed serious concern about the influence of what is known in the campaign as the “Ayers camp” on the candidate.

The Obama campaign itself has officially denied the existence of a close relationship between Ayers and Obama and continues to quote on its website mainstream media sources that contend that connections between the two are “tenuous.” While Obama himself attempted to minimize the relationship he has never denied that it existed and, in fact, hinted during a debate with Hilary Clinton that he had had dinner with Ayers at some point. Ayers himself has refused to talk to the media about his relationship with Obama.

Annenberg Challenge appointment a “culmination” of Ayers ties

Global Labor has reported that Ayers was responsible for the selection of Obama as Chairman of the $150 million Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a school reform effort that Ayers helped found and lead from 1994 to 2002. While that conclusion has been challenged by, among others, spokespersons for the Obama campaign and The New York Times, this source called the appointment of Obama to the Annenberg post the “culmination” of the relationship between Ayers and Obama at that point in time.

The same source has said that senior campaign staff including David Axelrod, Obama’s campaign manager, spoke directly with Ayers about preventing access by independent investigators to records of the Challenge. The source was in touch with an individual with first hand knowledge of the conversations that took place between Axelrod and Ayers but that individual was apparently reluctant to speak publicly.
Ayers is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago campus where the records are housed and where the Annenberg Challenge had its offices when it was first established by Ayers, among others, in 1995.

When a conservative intellectual and writer, Stanley Kurtz, of the National Review, attempted to access the records earlier this year he was denied access for several weeks. Emails released by the University confirmed that the former Executive Director of the Challenge, Ken Rolling, who has had a long time relationship with Ayers and Obama in the Chicago education reform environment, was in touch with senior University officials during that period.

A reporter for the Chicago Tribune told Global Labor that Rolling contacted the University on the very same day that Kurtz did. Kurtz was then denied access to the University’s records the next day. When the Challenge donated its records to the University in 2002 they were supposed to be made available for research to the public.

Global Labor was later told by an independent source outside the Obama campaign that two individuals attending the Democratic Party’s National Convention in Denver this past summer heard long time Ayers’ colleague, Tom Hayden, “brag” that Ayers and Axelrod “would take care of the Annenberg issue.”

Hayden was a founder of the Students for a Democratic Society, or SDS, which for several years was among the most important groups in the 1960s anti-war movement. A putsch led by Ayers and Dohrn, among others, however, steered SDS towards the violent tactics of the Weather Underground. Hayden is now active in a group called “Progressives for Obama” that includes many former SDS activists including some who were vigorous opponents of Ayers and Dohrn in the 1970s.

The Weather Underground

The Weather Underground had a destructive impact on the effort of tens of thousands of Americans to end the Vietnam War. A manifesto titled Prairie Fire issued by Ayers and Dohrn at the time outlined their neo-stalinist worldview and included a dedication to Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Robert Kennedy, whom they called a “political prisoner.” A recent re-issue of the manifesto by Ayers and Dohrn edited out the reference to Sirhan.

Dohrn turned herself into authorities with Ayers in 1980 and later served six months in prison for a refusal to testify to a New York grand jury about her possible role in a bank robbery led by black nationalists and former Weather Underground cadre that left two police officers and a bank guard dead. Ayers himself had pending charges against him dismissed due to legal problems with the manner in which evidence against him was collected.

Ayers and Dohrn continue today to advocate an authoritarian political agenda based on their view of America as a congenitally racist country. A book they plan to publish early next year is called Race Course Against White Supremacy. They travel regularly to Venezuela where Ayers has expressed strong support for the authoritarian regime of Hugo Chavez.

Ayers and Obama Chicago efforts

The Annenberg records indicated that Ayers and Obama worked closely together to implement an agenda built in part on Ayers long held race based and authoritarian political perspective. Ayers and Obama had both worked in 1988 in Chicago to implement a radical restructuring of the governance of Chicago schools that aimed, in part, to rein in the power of the Chicago Teachers’ Union after an unpopular strike in 1987.

The Challenge disbursed millions of dollars over a six-year period in the late 1990s in Chicago during a period of controversial school reform. As a result of his role in the Challenge, Obama was able to come into contact with numerous prominent Chicagoans who are now important to his political campaign, including Penny Pritzker, of the powerful and wealthy Pritzker family. The Pritzker Family Foundation donated $100,000 in matching funds to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and Penny Pritzker now serves on the board of the Chicago Public Education Fund, which was the successor organization to the Challenge. Ms. Pritzker now chairs the Obama campaign finance committee.

Several months after his appointment to the Challenge board by Ayers, Obama launched his first political campaign for a seat in the Illinois state senate. An early campaign event was organized by Ayers and Dohrn and held in their Hyde Park town house. Ayers, Dohrn and the Obamas later joined together in an effort to support reforms to the Illinois juvenile justice system.

Ayers and Obama later sat together on the board of the Woods Fund, a Chicago based foundation that funded a wide array of groups including the Arab American Action Network headed by Mona Khalidi. Khalidi’s husband Rashid is a close friend of Ayers and credits Ayers with assisting him in writing a book. Obama spoke at an event in honor of Khalidi, a scholar of the Middle East, when he left the University of Chicago for a post at Columbia University.

The McCain/Palin campaign has limited its comments on the Ayers/Obama relationship to suggestions that Obama “pals around with terrorists.” While Ayers and Dohrn have admitted they engaged in violent actions during the 1970s they now engage largely in propaganda efforts for their authoritarian worldview.

I just voted for Mac, and feel very good about it.
I thought I’d be depressed, but I am elated.
Previously I was not going to vote. Then I remembered how
Mac kept his promise in an effort to keep election costs
from going into the stratosphere.
I thought that was a responsible, decent move.
I don’t think Obama has ever made a decision that wasn’t
calculated.

That’s wonderful. However, please respond to the fine article above. While thrilling to read, exciting comments like this belong in open threads or under any of the number of YouTubes we’ve posted. Thanks for cracking down on off topic comments.

And now to comment on the topic….I would prefer to see this corroborated. However, it feels very familiar. Remember when Obama said he rarely spoke to Rezko but the Feds, who were watching Rezko, saw him coming and going from Rezko’s office on a more than weekly basis? This fits the pattern. Mr. Judgement strikes again.

While Ayers and Dohrn have admitted they engaged in violent actions during the 1970s they now engage largely in propaganda efforts for their authoritarian worldview.
………

In all the conflicts, you can trace the start to the propaganda efforts before the actual event. Now that we know that the Ayers dedicated their 1974 book to Sirhan Sirhan and went on to describe him as a ‘prisoner of war’, would all the academics that signed on as supporters of Ayers still continue supporting them now that they know?

You can e-mail the station’s ultra liberal manager here mickey.luckoff@citcomm.com but I wouldn’t expect to get much satisfaction there.

I suggest Human Resources as they exist to protect the company fromn incidents such as this:

Now you know why many of us don’t want to go public. This sort of campaigning is wrong. I think it is topic related as it shows what happens when the supporters want some thing so badly that anyone in the way becomes a target. There is a line that is crossed when you go from rooting for your candidate to advocating violence on the airwaves.

McCain campaign should know about this since Joe the Plumber has been out with him on the campaign.

What good does it do to offer this analysis now? There were a thousand different ways for McCain/Palin to bury Obama in dirt and yet they chose not to. Obama will win because he had no serious challenger. If McCain were serious when he said he was going to fight he would have done it. Instead he rolled over, just like Hillary did.

I don’t know why both Republicans and Democrats want to elect Bill Ayers for president but they do.

Comment by vee | 2008-11-03 11:39:48

I was thinking along the same lines as you when I read this article. It does seem too late to have any impact. Whether McCain chose rightly or not, we will find out tomorrow, or soon after.

Comment by snosandy | 2008-11-03 15:05:01

When McCain and Palin were using Ayers in their speeches a few weeks ago their poll numbers went down. Sadly, America is sleeping and those drunk on koolaid are singing “lalalalalala, I can’t hear you.”

Comment by Typewriterstreaming | 2008-11-03 11:53:56

It really isn’t that McCain didn’t do enough it’s that the media refused, absolutely refused to attacks on Obama. Look, this is valuable. It the worst happens Barky needs to be impeached. We don’t stop looking because election day is here or over. That’s exactly what they are hoping will happen. We can’t afford that choice. I hope everyone will continue forward. There is a Democratic Party to clean out- screw the Socialists, I’m not rolling over. No way, no how.

Comment by Leisa | 2008-11-03 12:20:21

Once the facts came out about the CAC, the Dohrn/Michelle connections, and the Woods Fund, it was apparent these people have been associates and friendly for some time.

These people are clearly not level headed intellectuals. They have no idea how selfish and self-centered their thinking was and still is. They deluded themselves that they were fighting against a war with the actions of the Weather Underground, and they are deluding themselves now thinking that they have a viable plan to end racism. I don’t even think they have a real grasp of what racism is or that it occurs with every race and tribes within races. These people seem to think that they have the solutions, and they are so shortsighted it is scary.

Anyone that would associate with such pseudo-intellectuals and agree with and support their shortsighted ideas (serving on boards Ayers set up = supporting) should NEVER be POTUS.

Here is one more piece of irony I find with Ayers… This is a man, who in his early years disagreed with his government. He went on to incite violence and planned and carried out bombings against our country. Some people were killed and injured by following his leadership. Some innocent people were also killed or wounded by his group. He never served time for his crimes because he got off on a technicality. He now works to have laws changed to be more lenient on juvenile offenders. Ayers should not be a free man in our country, and he would not be alive if he acted against Chavez and his oppressive regime the way he did in our country… The one he wants to fix.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-11-03 12:35:07

I’m mostly with you on this one. Although I think McCain’s refusal to allow his supporters to bring up Wright was wrongheaded. They should have emphasized that Obama has repeatedly shown horrible judgement by going to guys like Pfleger, Wright, and Rezko for advice. I can understand if there was only one of this kind of clost associates, but there is a clear pattern. And a clear pattern of Obama lying about it.

Since Obama’s only claim to be ready for president is his judgement, this is a more than fair issue, it - along with his thin resume and lies about his record - should have been the central issues, both for the media and for McCain.

Comment by tek | 2008-11-03 13:12:03

Absolutely right, Type. The American People need to go after the worthless media big time. Trouble is, when the side they’ve cheerleaded wins, you can’t get a majority of Americans together to condemn the reprehensible practices of the media.

Comment by Judy | 2008-11-04 12:18:06

If Hilary had stood up and backed McCain/Palin the media would have had no choice but to listen. The only conclusion I can draw is that she cares more about HER future than the country’s, unlike the GOP ticket which has been hammering away at these relationships trying to get someone to listen.

Obama’s supporters are so sure that the flowers are going to bloom in January tho, that they just won’t listen to reason.

Comment by Liz B | 2008-11-03 13:39:13

I have been upset about this, as well. I think all but the truly naive, know that Ayers has never NOT been close with Obama. I believe they have been close since Occidental when Obama first involved himself in the Anti-Apartheid groups to protest in marches, and attend campus meetings and rallies. After Obama completed his jihad in Pakistan in 1981, he went to Columbia, where he was sent to make aquaintence with his newest mentor, Bill Ayers. While there, he lived in the same place for the entire time (according to the N.Y. phone books), and may have been present at the Anti South African Rugby Players incident at JFK that blinded a man. Make no mistake, Obama and Ayers are as thick as fleas, and have been for almost thirty years. Ayers is a Communist folks, Obama is a Communist, too. Of course they talk, Ayers is the one who helped get him on the path to the White House? Why? Because he was a guy in his neighborhood?
If I were McCain and ALL the GOP attack dogs, for that matter, I would have hit him with everything, continually, day and night. Media wants to ignore this stuff? Screw the Media! If they had put this in their faces 24/7 for the past six months, by hook or by crook, every American would have known everything they needed to know about the man. I am PO’d with the Media, and I know McCain wanted to stay above the fray, but why didn’t Rove and the attack wing of the GOP go after this stuff relentlessly? It’s Nov. 3rd and my Dad still doesn’t believe anything is out there bad to know about Obama, b/c we would have heard about it extensively by now…AFTER ALL, IT IS AN ELECTION, RIGHT? The News is what sells papers, right? My Dad actually watches and believes Keith Olbermann, for God Sakes.
Anyway, nice job, Steve.

Too bad I don’t have the E-mail address of Gen. Powell, maybe he’d be interested in learning something. To see him go on Meet The Press and say Obama hardly even knew Bill Ayers makes me sick, he is either a knowing liar or very stupid. It would be Great if Mac could win, then the Media would be happy to tell all this stuff to the Public instead of the cover-up they are doing now.

Comment by bell'artista | 2008-11-03 12:24:14

I’m not sure whether or not this would have made a difference to Gen Powell, or not.
He seemed perfectly content to stand in front of the UN, insisting on the validity of the claims about aluminum tubes of yellowcake and WMD…
I think Powell is willing to say whatever he is bidden for whatever game he’s playing.

Comment by J.J. (The Puma) | 2008-11-03 12:58:24

Bill Richardson was Judas. Colin Powell was Brutus, delivering the fatal stab wound to his friend Caesar John McCain.

Why did Powell do such a thing?

You get three guesses.

Comment by tek | 2008-11-03 13:13:23

Comment by Aaron | 2008-11-03 11:33:37

Obama met Ayers in the mid 80’s when attended Columbia. After Obama graduated he went to Chicago and worked for Dohrn’s law firm as an intern where he met his future wife and co-worker Michelle Robinson. Obama’s senior thesis at Columbia is very similar to Michelle’s thesis from Princeton. This is why Obama refuses to release his undergraduate work and his records will show that he was enrolled in a class that Ayers taught.

Comment by lisa in va | 2008-11-03 11:39:24

I think the latest he met Ayers was in 1980-1981. He was doing horrible at Occidental. I’m guessing his mentor, Franks, who was friends with Ayers daddy, suggested to Obama that he go to Columbia & hoped Ayers would give him some guidance.

Thats the latest.

But personally, I think he met Ayers even earlier than that. Perhaps during the 70’s in Hawaii, when Ayers and Bernadette were on the run from the FBI.

They’ve had a relationship for decades. Obama doesn’t do anything before running it past Ayers first.

Comment by Kal | 2008-11-03 11:39:59

Aaron — If you have anything to document any of this, this would be the time.

I find all of this believable stuff: I think BO met or knew of the Ayers and SDS before he got to Occidental (via Marshall or whatever his name was), and then I think he was a perfect tool for Hayden, Ayers, Dohrn, etc. Also, given BO’s lack of political imagination, I suspect the allegation above of strong similarities between BO’s school work and MO’s might well turn out to be correct.

I think that Ayers etc. and BO/MO have been laughing their heads off at all of this from the get-go, and all I can hope for now, if the voters can’t wake up in time, is that Fitzgerald eventually comes up with something. But remember, once BO is elected, he can stop Fitzgerald in a whole bunch of nasty ways.

Time for anybody who hasn’t voted for McCain to get out there and get ready to do it, if they can’t go do it today!!

PUMA!!

Comment by mimi | 2008-11-03 12:07:57

I also believe that 0bama met Ayers as an impressionable adolescent in Hawaii through his mentor Davis.

This is why 0bama has never said anything negative about Ayers. Has anyone not noticed this? He threw Rev. Wright under the bus, but Ayers/Dohrn, not so much.

If that’s not a dead giveaway, I don’t know what is.

We can thank the msm for not doing their job.

Comment by Aaron | 2008-11-03 11:34:59

Ayers was working on his Masters when Obama was an undergrad at Columbia.

Comment by Kal | 2008-11-03 11:52:30

Aaron — Right, but unfortunately, even very high probabilities aren’t facts. Any ideas on where to start to get a witness? That ought to be the way to do it, I would think. Plus apparently BO lived unusually far from Columbia with a couple of (nonUS?) roommates.

??

Comment by mimi | 2008-11-03 12:15:24

Yes, but Ayers was at Bank Street College at the time 0bama was at Columbia. There’s only 4 blocks between the two.

Personally, I don’t believe 0bama actually attended classes at Columbia. It’s insane that no one remembers him from a class. Simply insane. That just doesn’t happen. Someone’s memory should have been jarred with all the attention he’s received for the last few years. And why isn’t Mr. African American, not a member of Columbia’s Black Alumni Association, a very active organization.

0bama’s not exactly the physical type that would fade into the woodworks. He claims he was a loner. Well, I got news, loners tend to stand out even more. They evoke natural curiousity.

There’s no way to prove any of these things, I know. But that doesn’t change the way I feel in my gut. There’s something screwy about his time at Columbia. And not just the fact that he may have taken a class with Ayers, or Zbigniew, or Khalidi.

It’s almost like he wasn’t ever there.

Comment by BettsAZ | 2008-11-03 12:26:00

It’s very suspicious that NO ONE has come forward from his “college” days as a friend who knew him. It’s all so creepy.

Comment by Shiloh | 2008-11-03 11:36:03

I’ve been talking to a lot of people and what I hear is that Obama is going down in the final days basically because the glitter wore off. Voters have a way of being easily fooled early on but getting tough at the end. The reasons I hear most often are that he is an ordinary politician, that he cheats, and that he tried to buy the election with illegal foreign money. That last one warrants some emphasis in the remaining time, IMO.

I never doubted for a second these two weren’t close.

Ayer’s POV is the same POV as Obama’s Mom, Ann, who called herslef a “fellow traveler.” This phrase means the person is a marxist sympathizer. Ann was a Marxist.

So was her father. Why else would he introduce his grandson Obama to the famous communist poet Frank Marshall Davis and ask him to be Obama’s mentor starting at 8 years old.

Obama was raised on anti-American rhetoric.

That’s why Rev. Wright and Ayers felt FAMILIAR to him, their ideas felt NORMAL to him.

These are thr same ideas his mother and grandfather fed him early on.

The MSM have BURIED these truths.

Comment by Susan1968 | 2008-11-03 11:48:28

You know what cracks me up about Ayers and the other Marxists teaching in our universities.

They’re trying to convert the most capitalistic, consumer-product-addicted generation the USA ever had.

They’re trying to turn them into Marxists.

Susan: great analysis. I’ve often thought about this. Of course all the white college kids supporting Obama are minors who get handouts from Mom and Dad. They don’t seem to realize if he carries out his plans, they will have a very bleak future in the U. S. and maybe the world.

If Obama manages to get in, we’ll have another painful 4 years. But I believe Americans are not going to go for his communist crap anymore that they inevitably embraced the evangelical idea of a theocracy. He’ll be out on his butt in no time. People are sick of extremists.

Comment by Concerned Citizen X | 2008-11-03 15:23:42

I totally agree. Maybe the upside of an Obama presidency will be that Americans will wake up and realize that BOTH parties are led by extremists and that they’ve had enough.

The toys may come from a capitalist system but do you really think for a second that young people who have had to do nothing to get these toys really spend any time thinking about the macroeconomic way that made these things possible?

No way they don’t. As far as they’re concerned, life is never going to change, there is no risk to their comfort.. the country will survive despite their subversion and demoralization.

It simply doesn’t matter. Without ever knowing what a dictatorship really is, then sure.. America is a dictatorship to for all they care.

I am not surprised at this revelation but for the life of me I cannot understand why people who are supposed to be “in the know” do not come out and expose all of this - why is keeping silent and allowing this fraud of a candidate to be presented to the American people more important that the consequences we will all suffer if he is elected?

Whatever happened to downright patriotic behavior? We need a few more Paul Reveres to ride through America and warn us and to actually give their name to theses charges so they will have more impact.

Thank you for your article, but it is frustrating to me that the people who are disclosing this won’t come out and scream this from the housetops.

People want a “feel good” president……they want to say THEY voted for the first black president to make themselves feel better. Never mind the man is inexperienced and unprepared. He’s black. That’s the most important issue. *rolling eyes*

Comment by snosandy | 2008-11-03 16:05:41

And it will only hurt future black candidates because they will think its just fine to have questionable and radical associations in order to advance their careers, just like Obama does. But, when their turn comes the MSM will already have defended that first historical candidate and won’t find it necessary to hide those ghosts in the closet next time.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-11-03 11:56:49

And that’s the problem. Had the press done its job, these facts would have surfaced earlier. Most voters have only a passing knowledge of the realtionships between Obama, Ayers, Rezko and a dozen other disturbing men and women who have led this push for an Obama presidency.

There have been exceptions. Evelyn Pringle wrote an extensive series on the “pay to play” scheme in Chicago but the work rec’vd little traction. Reporters from Chicago have written about Ayers, Rezko and the Illionois Combine but the national media failed to pick it up. Hillary brought up Rezko during the primaries and was booed for her effort. Sean Hannity has blasted these items again and again on Fox and the radio and has been demonized as a raceand had the race baiter.

See a pattern?

Who in your memory has ever had links to these kinds of people and had the unmitgated gall to run for POTUS? And why has the MSM by in large covered his skinny ass?

The American electorate has been taken for a sucker and these shadowy figures are waiting with bated breath to take the reins of power.

I hope to God the American people have the good sense to see what’s afoot here.

We’ll find out tomorrow!

Thanks for the article.

Being close to Nobama is akin to selling your soul to the devil. As with all whistle-blowers you have to be prepared and willing to open your self up to the attacks that will follow. Having a sudden case of ethical doubt and a patriotic gut check may not be a strong enough reason for some people to literally put themselves into the line of fire.

I am willing to bet that once this election nightmare is over we will be hearing from quite a few people wishing to purge themselves of guilt for complicity in the evil doings of Nobama.

Final Mason-Dixon battleground numbers: dead heat
Jonathan Martin notes at Politico that the battleground states appear to have all reached a dead-heat conclusion — with lots of undecideds — in the last Mason-Dixon polling.

Colorado: Obama 49, McCain 44, Undecided 4
Florida: Obama 47, McCain 45, Undecided 7
Nevada: Obama 47, McCain 43, Undecided 8
Pennsylvania: Obama 47, McCain 43, Undecided 9
Virginia: Obama 47, McCain 44, Undecided 9
Ohio: McCain 47, Obama 45, Undecided 6
Missouri: McCain 47, Obama 46, Undecided 5
North Carolina: McCain 49, Obama 46, Undecided 5

As Brad Coker, who runs the Mason-Dixon poll, notes, the vast majority of the undecided voters in these states are whites.

Am I surprised that Obama & Ayers have maintained regular contact? Not one bit. Am I furious that the media has ignored this relationship and its implications? Absolutely. When Obama keeps referring to changing America, people have a right to know what kind of change he is referring to. Ayers claims to be a Marxist and an anarchist — and this guy has Obama’s ear.

If this doesn’t get out, if Obama steals this election, can’t you just see Obama making Ayers the Sec. of Education? He’ll claim that Ayers is JUST an educator now, so just don’t worry abt those tapes from 2003 or what he said after 9/11. And people will just keep rfegurgitating his talking points on Ayers anyway (”he was just a child when Ayers bombed the Pentagon and Capitol” - I heard that just yesterday, in fact. Or, “you probably see your mail carrier more than Obama sees/saw Ayers!” - that according to my Obamabot sister).

Great article.

You know, in the beginning of this, people talked, some joked, that Obama was a manchurian candidate. I laughed it off.

But, you know…it is kind of true. I feel like he is a total manchurian candidate, product of the Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, Khalidi, etc. people of Chicago politics. I don’t know how anyone could think Obama and Ayers DON’T communicate. They are THIS CLOSE to having *their candidate* in the white house. They are peeing their pants with excitement. And it just freaks me out to think what will happen if they get in there.

Even his books that he wrote. It all just seems so calculated. his *borrowed* lines from Deval, his attitude on the Clintons, everything. And the fact that he was launched in Ayers’ living room. Too creepy.

Great read. I wish the MSM had taken this connection more seriously. My husband had a discussion with a young (late 20’s) relative of his. Her thought was that it was fine to spread the wealth…and that William Ayers was and okay guy committed to Education. She is a Pharmacist has lead a privileged life. She told my husband that if McCain wins, she wants to move to Canada. My husband said he had to bite his tongue to keep from asking what she thought she would make as a Pharmacist up there and if the salaries there had been affected by socialized medicine. She also admitted to him that she has not studied the issues or Obama’s accomplishments (or lack of). Now, I’m not really too worried about this, because her State is solidly Red. However, it’s really sad that people who do not study and research all of the issues, policies and people behind the scenes are the ones who might ultimately decide this election.

Country first!
I voted for McCain/Palin last week!!!!

The homeland security force that is to be larger than our military force and better funded should scare everyone to death. Will Ayers be in charge of the training of this new security force? Is this just an enlargement of the Weather Underground? Sounds like the Hitler “Brownshirts” to me.
If Obama follows through with this expressed desire, we will truly be living in a police state, not the “imagined” police state of Bush and Cheney (which was always a joke)!

Comment by Ferd Mcberfle | 2008-11-03 12:24:19

This scenario is one reason why I was never in favor of the “Patriot” Act. The potential for a loose cannon in the WH makes such an act dangerous. When McCain becomes President, I certainly hope that is one law that goes away. If this country wants real security, I suggest a large structural steel barricade along our southern border, as a minimum.

You know, as a lifelong far left Dem ( who voted Mac/Palin this year) I can understand how Ayers was dismissed by many liberals–it sounds like old news and like so much far right drivel.

My 88 yr old father hears “socialist” and remembers red baiting and by listening to the msm (CNN, NYT) is just not aware of who Ayers really is TODAY and how dangerous Obama is.

IF Obama wins I think there will be a ton of people who are totally surprised by who he really is. He’s such a weird combination of Ayers and Big Money who knows what he believes in besides himself.

I have absolutely NO doubt that Ayers would be given access to the White House and the innner workings of our federal government in ways he never dared dream IFFFFF oblah becomes president of our country. I am soo completely opposed to the obama campaign and his candidacy precisely because of all his shady associates and untoward-terroristic affiliations. Obama is a clear and present danger to our nation and he cannot be allowed to win this election.

Thank you so much Steve for this very informative article. I have suspected that this was the case… Ayers and Obama having contact all this time. I wish that someone in the Obama campaign would come clean and suddenly find their conscience. Obama’s or Axlerod’s cell phone records would most likely be proof enough of the ongoing relationship. The koolaid drinkers are so mesmerized by “The One” that they have left their morals, character, integrity, etc., behind.

And you know, as the article points out to his friends/associations, Obama is a total hack who will do anything to further his career. He associated with all those people, used them (and they used him?) to get ahead in his career. The guy seems to have no ethics. He has been crooked and seedy from the get go!

Community organizing - he tries to make it sound like he gave a rats ass, but I think it was political expedience, just like Wright, just like Ayers. So…who will he befriend IF he were to be president?

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-11-03 12:36:18

Most politicians start out *clean* don’t they? They have ideals, want to do good, help people, etc. But over time, they realize they have to compromise, sell out (?), perhaps make a few dirty moves, in order to get action. Obama started out dirty. He started out in a domestic terrorists living room? Crazy!

WOWWWWWWWW TAKE A LOOK AT THIS

http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/6004
Venceremo Brigades was a Cuban spy operation
Trashing Camelot: Obama’s pal Bill Ayers Violated JFK’s Cuba Embargos

SNIP-
That’s where Ayers and Dohrn and their kill-the-imperialist-pig ilk came in handy as Castro’s pawns. As previously reported, Ayers and Dohrn traveled as part of the Venceremo Brigades, ostensibly defying Kennedy’s February 1963’s travel restrictions to Cuba.
The Venceremo Brigades was a Cuban spy operation tasked to recruit “individuals who are politically oriented and who someday may obtain a position, elective or appointive, somewhere in the U.S. Government, which would provide the Cuban Government with access to political, economic and military intelligence.” (Canada Free Press)
But the Vencermos Brigades were used for other purposes too. Ayers recruited American students to help boast Cuba’s economy, by enlisting them to work in Cuba’s sugar economy to export to the Soviet Union—another violation of Kennedy’s embargos.
The FBI report provides an example. It was July 29, 1969, when Ayers, in a speech at the University of Oregon, discussed the role of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), (SDS split off later to become the Weatherman), in the Venceremo Brigade.
In response to student’s questions about the Vencermo Brigade, Ayers said this:
“In November and beginning January, SDS was involved in sending 150 people, both times to Cuba to cut cane, to cut sugar, as part of Cuba’s program to create, to put out 50 million, or what is it 100 million…tons of sugar.” Ayers said. “They are not being paid because they are not honkeys who need to get paid in order to do something, in order to serve the people… there will be about 75 SDS people on each trip and about 75 people recruited from the Black Panther Party and Young (illegible) organizations, and other black and brown organizations that will go to Cuba,…by going to work to create and help the Cubans create a solid economy in the face of the economic boycott by the United States, in the face of the constant threats from the United States, in fact a couple of invasions that didn’t work because the Cuban people were too well armed and well educated.
The Venceremo Brigade,” Ayers expanded, “is an idea which is an attempt to show the people of the world that…all American’s aren’t solid in their support of the economic boycott of Cuba, and so we are going to go and we are going to attempt to…help the Cubans in their efforts

Comment by EJ | 2008-11-03 13:03:30

This stuff is not too late. Right minded folks know that Ayers and Obama are linked and there has been plenty of advertisment in the battleground states describing this link and his association with Rev. Wright, Tony Rezko, Khalidi etc.

BUT people REALLY care about their pocketbooks at this time of financial kaos…so the issue that will sink BHO is the “bankrupt the coal industry”. And the release of this tape was PERFECTLY timed.

McCain is closing the gap; in fact the battleground states are currently tied or McCain is ahead in a couple of them; even without compensating for his high polling bias compared to actual election results.

Also, this timing doesn’t give BHO and his media supporters the time to slather on the teflon and help him slip away from the comments. Remember his reaction to Palin’s pick of VP? He’s really bad when shooting from the hip, but when he gets time to frame his comments, and his thugs in the media help him out, the issue simply doesn’t stick to him.

Well, not this time! KUDOS to whoever planned this…it was BRILLIANT!

It doesn’t surprise me at all. Obama is like a living anachronism. He talks all the time as if we’re living in the 1860s, or the 1960s. Someone is filling his head with this junk. He has the exact same arguments and agenda as the student revolutionaries in the Counter Culture days. It would be so delicious to see John McCain pull out the Presidency. Even my husband who I believe voted for Obama, says he will be just as happy if McCain is elected. He’s worried about the economy and Obama’s ideas. Hope lots of other people are too.

Bush is horribly flawed and I believe sometime around 2006 he threw in the towel (I dont blame him.. not after all the disrespect he has been shown) but I would prefer the Bush of the first time still be in office other than the two choices we have now.

While the country was gazing at its navel damning how horrible Bush is, I said to myself “Yeah he is pretty bad.. but guess what he’s the best we got right now”

And i was right. At the time I hardly suspected a Trojan Horse was going to run for office. It’s like the worst case scenerio.. and then to have McCain be the candidate.. that was another WCS.

As much as I am in awe of McCain’s past and how proud and respectful of his wife I am… I knew this man would not be up for fighting againt this Marxist.

Marxists are ruthless, have no honor, are delusional, and masterful at propagandizing.

At first McCain was doing alright.. he was mocking Obama very effectively..and then what should have been the golden oppurtunity for McCain to go in for the kill by linking the Congresional Democrats to the failure of the world’s economic system., he instead blamed Wall St.

He failed to focus the public’s anger where it belongs and as usual, Obama started to accuse McCain as being part of the problem.

Sigh.

I could go on, but I dont want to keep up the negativity.

I really do think McCain is going to win because I have faith in the people of this country.

I dont believe we have lost sight of Truth.

A lot of us have. This needs to be reversed ASAP or EVERY election is going to be like this until one of these bastards wins.

Thanks to the former Democrats for standing up for our Country. If it wasn’t for you guys, I would be despairing.

Please, I hope someone names the source so that this information can be used. It doesn’t help unless it can be verified. There’s STILL enough time to slip it into an attack ad - showing both the danger of the association and the degree to which Obama is willing cover up undesirable truths that might be harmful to him. Do we need another president who can’t seem to admit it when he’s wrong? (early days of Iraq War, cough) Do we want another Watergate? These things happen when high level people lie about important things.

And to Vince of

Thanks to the former Democrats for standing up for our Country. If it wasn’t for you guys, I would be despairing.

Thank you to YOUR party for welcoming us (even those of us who are merely estranged Democrats, hoping that with enough “counseling” of the right type that our family will once again be made whole - and I don’t mean with Brazille style “Unity”).

I was telling people yesterday pretty frequently about the McCain conference call for PUMA supporters and the Team Sarah conference call that Laura Bush had called into, and both Democrats and Republicans responded with, “Wow”s and “I hadn’t even heard he reached out to you guys!”’s. And then I pointed out, “Contrast that with how welcome Obama has made us feel — his way or the highway. He has NEVER reached out to our entire voting bloc, and he keeps looking the other way when his supporters diss women. He pays the women working in his campaign less per dollar, compared to men, than McCain does. When asked directly, he would not commit to putting a woman on his cabinet, even after John McCain chose a woman as his VP! There’s just no comparison. So a lot of us have decided that the highway looks pretty good, and yeah, we’re willing to go there this time.”

A bunch of the Republicans with whom I was waving signs downtown yesterday even invited me to watch the election returns with them at the local campaign’s venue and encouraged me to bring my friends who are crossing over to vote McCain this year. If anyone in the area is interested… the Young Republicans will be at Rock Bottom Brewery in Bellevue starting at 4pm, and the state GOP’s returns-watching party begins at 8pm in the Evergreen Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the Bellevue Hyatt.

A point that hit home for me that cuts straight to the core of the Obamas (why we don’t include Michelle in these discussions, I never know — she and Bernadine are more frightening to me than either of their men — anybody heard Michelle “disavowing” Wright, Pfleger or others[?]), Ayers, Dohrn, Wright, Pfleger, Meeks, Rezko, and others:

The Point: If none of these people are his friends or associates, who are his friends? And where are they?

He doesn’t appear to have a SINGLE friend or associate, anywhere.

No teachers from either college. No classmates from either college. No buddies. No “close associates” anywhere. No former “colleagues” from the Illinois legislature. Was he a leader of his party in Illinois? No. Do Illinois legislators even remember him?

He “drank a lot of beer” and did a lot of drugs, according to BHO himself, in college, Occidental and Columbia. Nobody (except some very sad cases) drink “a lot of beer” or do a lot of drugs all by themselves. Who did he hang with?

He says he, naturally (according to him) sought out the usual suspects, including the “Marxist” professors. And other radicals. Where are they?

Even when the KBG put an undercover operative in place, they gave them a cover story and background.

Why? Because they’d be found out and exposed without it. And they’d be quizzed, e.g., “How many states are there in the United States?” [Not 57]; “Where is Kentucky, closer to Illinois or Arkansas?”; “Who won the 2008 World Series?”

Things like that.

But here we have a Presidential candidate who David Axel-fraud has unleased on the public without a back story. No past [he went to Harvard Law School but we can't see his records -- and he gave a speech in 2002 -- that's it].

No friends he hasn’t disowned.

No church.

No family that he ever sees.

Apparently, when you walk above the ground, you don’t leave footprints.

John McCain and Governor Palin leave big, solid footprints. You might like it if they tracked a little farther left, or right, or maybe you like their path just fine. But, either way, they have been on this earth and they have set their strides firmly on the terra firma.

Barack Obama is a creation, a gifted actor playing the part of Presidential Candidate.

I am not looking for someone to play the part of President.

I am looking for someone to do the job.

Again, for emphasis:

If these are not his friends, where are they?

Well said IndieDogg.

What I have always puzzled after is why, Obama and Ayers are in the same proximty since San Diego.

(Based on my research, I would put them meeting at Franks house in Hawaii) Still, they Ayers and Obama, have been joined at the temporal hip.

And it so plain to see if ones cares to look.

That’s why Barry could never apply to the FBI for even the lowest, most routine security clearance (the secret). His inability to find close friends (not Anti-American or terrorist) who could vouch with him would be prohibitive.

The classmates and acquaintances that have come forth from Occidential remember him as strangely more straight laced and “prep school white” than the books would suggest. Looking at Obama’s lies is, for the media, like looking at themselves.

Nibras Kazimi, on his ‘Talisman Gate’ blog, has a post up titled, “Obama’s Overkill and the F**k-you Vote”.

Very much on-topic.

When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends.

The Obama campaign has an “Ayers” wing?

Thanks for posting Prof. Diamond’s work.

Prof Diamond I appreciate your extraordinary effort to inform all of us!

Although Senator Obama, has been on boards with William Ayers, I believe that Senator Obama, only associated with William Ayers on a strictly professional level and this OPINION that Barack Obama has befriended the terrorist will be proven as a false statement, and will cease to harm Senator Obama’s Character. In my opinion this “association” will not hinder his motives as becoming a great American president who can and will fix the economic crisis in America. In conclusion I found that calling Senator Obama a terrorist because of his associations on strictly professional levels with William Ayers is bogus and totally not important in this campaign season.

Sincerely
Derk

DERK, you’re wasting your time. Although, I must commend you on having learned Obama-style misdirection, putting words in our mouths (”calling Senator Obama a terrorist”), you slipped up when you said it is “not important”. Anything the Obama camp says is unimportant, we know by now, is QUITE important. In poker terms, it’s a tell. Let your friends know it doesn’t work any more.

Many of us would NOT say Obama is a terrorist. Many of us WOULD say that he’s friends with at least one, who got off on a technicality, “guilty as sin” in Ayers’ own words.

And see, what bothers many of us is that those kinds of friendships open up all sorts of possibilities that aren’t good.

Like, a friendly chat in which Obama just lets slip, by accident, not even realizing it, a key piece of information. Or the possibility of blackmail. Or the possibility of Obama having made some kind of bargain with these folks, so that they’d help him get where he is, in exchange for who knows what.

As someone has already pointed out, those kinds of possibilities, even if remote, are why people with Obama’s kinds of associations tend to have great difficulty getting security clearances for even low level work in the defense area.

Why was he involved with these people? Does he believe what they expouse, or is he just an empty person looking for an identity to assume?

Obama is a narcissist and will do anything necessary to keep his image of himself intact. He seems to have no core and no values.

What the heck is he going to do as president? Bush has core beliefs - crazy ones - but he has them. Obama may find that all the Ayers nonsense is not enough to sustain him as president. It’s frightening.

Bush has God and god is infinite. What does Obama have: I hate America/white people are evil. That’s not even a coherent entity because it’s a negation.

Shi-ite, I’m giving myself a headache.

This article should not be forgotten. I had bookmarked it to come back too if Obama got elected. I don’t think that this issue should die. It’s time to find out everything that we can. We need all of the related news, you know, back when this was actually something bad. We also need to find out more about this relationship. All of this is going to be needed before he starts indoctrinating our children “Bill Ayers Style”. This has more information, although not yet substantiated, then anything I’ve read so far. Now that he is PE, I keep expecting someone to not get what they want, and spill all the beans. We can only hope.
