Open Thread * Bob Schieffer of CBS News Gets Out the Vote (for McCain?)

Bob Schieffer of CBS’ Face the Nation took a moment to talk to voters today, encouraging us all to get out to the polls.

Moreover, he made it clear that unlike some of his colleagues in the news business who claim they don’t vote anymore in order that they might stay neutral, he strongly disagreed and made clear that he full well intended to cast his ballot this Tuesday. Furthermore, in this season of the most biased election coverage ever, for any of these guys and gals to profess neutrality is like a horse tryng to profess it doesn’t like hay.

I’d like to thank our NoQ reader, Max, for bringing this video to our attention:

Watch CBS Videos Online

Bob Schieffer discussed the book, “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,” and that the Nazi’s came to power at the ballot box in an election. He said he certainly wouldn’t have wanted to stay neutral through that vote. He made it clear he felt we, as Americans, have to take a stand.

Mr. Schieffer also points out that you can keep your vote to yourself. Certainly a good idea this election season. He says, ‘tell everyone or no one.’

Over the years it is apparent that Mr. Schieffer certainly respects, and is a fan of John McCain. While Mr. Schieffer did stay neutral in all of his comments in this video as you can see yourself, it was very telling that he basically said the following:

You can vote against someone because you don’t like their attitude and you can vote for someone because you think they are more qualified.

Hmmm. “Attitude.” “Qualified.”

Now I can’t guarantee Mr. Schieffer was urging voters one way or the other, but considering the attributes of each candidate, it was telling that he used these particular words.

I certainly agree with Mr. Schieffer on not staying neutral even though my favorite candidate, Hillary Clinton is no longer in the race. I must step up to the plate and make the most responsible decision I can, electing the most qualified person. Someone with a record that backs up the rhetoric. Someone who offers policies that make sense for our country at this point in time and someone who respects all citizens, regardless of party. Bob Schieffer is right. Voting makes you feel big and strong.

Thanks, Mr. Schieffer. Now everybody — get to that ballot box!

1 of 1Full SizeWASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.

Can anyone tell me wtf this means?

Biden called his sister a “girl-boy,” meaning a tomboy, and then explained that girl-boys are softer than “girl-girls.”

“You know why I think Jill likes Claire McCaskill so well, Senator McCaskill? Jill is one of five sisters, Claire is one of three sisters. And I tell you what, you women raised with sisters are different than women raised with brothers,” Biden said as both women joined him on stage.

“My sister is smart, runs every one of my campaigns; is beautiful; graduated with honors from college; is homecoming queen. But she’s a … she is what I call a ‘girl-boy’ growing up, you know what I mean?”

“And I tell you what? Girl-girls are tougher than girl-boys,” he said. “But there’s one important thing I noticed. The great thing about marrying into a family with five sisters, there’s always one that loves you. ‘Cause you can count on splitting them a bit. You know what I mean?

I had a brother and was always a tomboy and out of step with other girls, because I was competing against boys. But my sister-in-law was one of 5 girls and apparently they could get pretty competitive in a different sort of way. Perhaps this is how some women grow up to be the “Nancy” type that Uppity describes, going to the top of the ladder and then kicking the upcoming women off, so she would remain the alpha female. Somebody ought to research that, if they haven’t.

I love Hillary and would fight a bloody tiger for her. But, even I’ve had it with her support with the O’one.

In Response to Hillary’s last minute email from HillPAC “This Moment”:

Hillary

I respect you and supported you as best I could financially during the Primaries.

But don’t ask me to support Obama or get out the vote for him.

He’s an unethical, cheaking, nomination-stealing, Chicago-thug politician. And, he’s not qualified nor fit to be President of this great country.

I’m not only discussed with him, I’m flatly repulsed by the Democratic Party’s tactics.

I know you have to tow the Party line … but I don’t. And, until the Democratic Party does right by you and supports you as a woman candidate for President … they can go to hell. And that includes their false candidate too!

At least John McCain is a man of honor who has served this country with his life, time and blood. Barack Obama has served no one or nothing except his own ego-driven career.

He is NOT fit to be President!

The remaining support for Hillary at this time, after all that has been done by the Obama campaign to steal this election illegally, and then for her to stump for him, can be called nothing but strong>IDOLATRY. If you’re looking for a female to worship, look elsewhere, that is, if you place your country first. She is no better than Obama himself, a fellow member of the neo-Nazi party.

Worship any woman, even Madonna if you must, but look beyond Hillary for a patriotic figure to lead our country.

Comment by destardi | 2008-11-03 15:48:54

You know what?

I’ve had it with your homophobic comments, and now calling the entire dem party nazis.

I’M a DEMOCRAT fighting against a DEMOCRAT because I HAVE MORAL FIBER!!!!!!!

Where the fuck were you while bush was tearing the country apart?

WHen was the last time you stood up to your own party?

Lay off Hillary; you and I could never begin to understand the extreme pressure the woman is under. It is NOT black and white for her at her level.

Comment by peniel | 2008-11-03 16:38:29

I second that Destardi. “tillthen” Hillary has earned our respect … and again I believe she has to tow the Dem party line. What other choice does she really have … her husband was President and she’s a respected sitting-Senator.

To say respecting her is Idolatry is pure horse-shit. Yes, I said horse-shit. And calling her neo-Nazi is beyond my Southern-woman manners to even respond to!

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-11-03 17:02:01

I’ll third those comments, Destardi. Republicans should make no mistake, those of us who supported Hillary have not joined the Republican Party. Rather, we’re joining Republicans shoulder to shoulder to fight back against an inexperienced candidate and a highly fraudulant campaign. We’re standing with Republicans because we’re patriots and we trust John McCain has the best interest at heart for this country.

I’ve never idolized Hillary Clinton [unlike the Obamatrons and their Grand Leader]. But I’ve always respected her and knew she would have been a fabulous nominee and an even better POTUS.

And if these comments were made by a tiresome Obamatron, please know we’re as resolved in our decision as we were after the primary; there’s no going back now. PUMAs will not retreat. We’re on the prowl and we’re still very angry!

Comment by Jan | 2008-11-04 18:14:37

To Peggy Sue and all those here like her. Kudos on your position to stand shoulder to shoulder with us Republicans. I would have voted for Hillary this year but I had that opportunity “stolen” from me.

As for your knowledge of the political structure “tillthen”, it’s pretty thin. She has to keep up the appearance in ord to maintain the support she will need later. Idolatry is not the issue here but determined support is.

Comment by Rob G in Chicago | 2008-11-03 17:29:24

Mary:

I fully understand that Hillary was put in an untenable position, and must show support for Sen. Obama, but can anyone show me a reasonable scenario where she can run again in 2012 if Obama wins tomorrow ? If he does win, then Dean, Pelosi, Reid, Brazile, Axelrod & all the cast of Obama Central come off looking like geniuses, and they will retain control of the Democratic Party. I can’t see any way that Hillary would have a shot at the Presidency (as a Democratic candidate)so long as the folks currently controlling the party remain in control. I’m hoping that someone in our little on-line community could advance a theory that would produce a Hillary victory (as a Democrat) in 2012 (other than the entire current DNC leadership being indicted and carted off to prison) if Obama is elected in 2008. To preserve what’s left of my sanity, I have to keep imagining Hillary doing a Gov. Palin type wink every time she shills for Obama, but I think that I’m going to have to be satisfied with imagining that wink, because I sure haven’t seen it in her actual appearances on his behalf.

Comment by frenchman47 | 2008-11-04 02:56:15

Sure, I can see a scenario where Clinton could make a run in 2012. Pelosi, Reid, et al have clearly demonstrated their willingness to ‘eat their own’ and if Obama were to become President and accomplish little to nothing in office (which I expect will be the case)or is singularly unimpressive and unable to turn the country around (which I also expect to be the case), the DNC and the rest of the gang won’t have Any problem turning on him in 2012. Hillary Gained more and more supporters as the primary season went on and is now viewed by the majority of the Country as someone ‘ready to lead.’

It wouldn’t be the first time a Democrat ran against a sitting Democratic President – think Bobby Kennedy 1968 and Ted Kennedy 1980. IF Obama wins he is Not going to turn our economy around in 4 years; Bill Clinton didn’t do it in that short of period of time and he was a whole lot smarter than Obama is and had umpteen years of Executive experience. Unless the Obama idolatry continues, I expect that if he wins he’ll be a one-term President.

Sorry, but I beg to differ about Bush. Nowhere in his background were there ANY of these lunatic radicals, terrorists and scary freaks that Obama hangs around with. Glenn Beck even said today that there is so much audio and video on Obama that would IMMEDIATELY disqualify ANY other candidate that it’s mindboggling. If McCain sat in the white, racist equivalent of Trinity Church he would have been long gone from this race by now. if he would have flipped Hillary the finger, made the crazy comments, the gaffes, flip flops, I can go on all day. Obama belongs in Joliette Federal Prison, not the White House. Bush had NONE OF THAT in his background. That’s why the Obama voters to me are just plain ignorant and I’m trying to find a way to rationalize it but I never will.

Comment by Monet | 2008-11-03 20:12:50

For many of the 18 million, health care was a major issue. They don’t like McCain’s plan. Other people are anti-war, any war. They believe Senator Obama will be quicker to wrap up Iraq and Afghanistan and keep us out of other wars. They like Senator Obama’s stance on education and social programs better. For many, pro-choice rights are very important. They think Senator Obama’s policy of giving tax credits to businesses who hire employees in the U.S. will keep their jobs.

None of us have a crystal ball and have no idea whether a McCain or Obama administration would be better. Either one could be a dismal failure. Either one could be just what we need to recover from the Bush administration.

I’m putting my vote on McCain, I think he’ll do less harm and more good. With Senator Obama, if we’re going to handing out tax dollars, I’m just not sure I want to be funding ACORN or any of the other projects that Senator Obama has been involved in over the past twenty years. None of those projects appear to have had much of a success rate, so I’m putting aside my political ideology and voting for a candidate who is across the spectrum from me on social and some economic issues because he has a track record of successes (and failures for that matter).

However, I don’t think people who have chosen Senator Obama are irresponsible or stupid. Most of them have legitimate reasons for choosing Senator Obama. They haven’t chosen the candidate I have, but who knows – maybe they’ve made the better choice and I haven’t. I was vehemently against President Bush eight years ago and thought he would kill our economy. I was right. Maybe my track record will hold, then again – maybe I’ve made the less desirable choice this time around. Only time will tell.

Whatever happens, the sun will rise on Wednesday morning. If America makes the wrong choice, we’ll survive it. President Bush hasn’t been able to destroy us and if he couldn’t, neither can Senators McCain or Obama.

Comment by peniel | 2008-11-03 16:26:34

I believe part of the reason Dems are voting Obama … even knowing his cheating & lies … is that it seems payback time for the Rovian tactics practiced by the Republicans in 2000 and 2004.

But, my Gosh, does that mean we have to stoop to Rove tactics? IMHO, two wrongs never have made a right.

I think that’s what really bothers me about today’s Dems: I thought we were the party of the people and had a higher standard of ethics. Bill Clinton even said a while back that in his opinion, politics like those practiced in old-Chicago had been cleaned up. He expressed pride over the cleaner politics.

But now to think that “we”, the Dems, have embraced these shady, unethical political tactics to win???

What is winning if it has no honor at all? If we’ve won through fraudulent & unethical means?

In writing this just now, I’ve really put my own finger on my feelings: I’m so disillusioned and saddened.

I just can’t believe my Party would behave in this amoral way. In this misogynistic way towards women – not just Hillary but now Sarah as well.

I can’t believe feminists I’ve so respected for so many years would toss aside the literally putrid behavior towards Hillary and embrace the candidate who spawned & encouraged it. Remember when Obama gave Hillary the finger after her win in PA … and how he flicked-off his shoulder like she was an inconsequential insect or pest of some kind? How can women or anyone who respects them overlook that?

I can’t believe my Party would so disavow the Clintons – both of them – and support a man who has done nothing for his country or Party – except buy the nomination by paying-off the superdelegates! And, worse yet O’One who has done all in his power to forever erode support for Bill & Hillary among young voters and among AAs. A whole new generation of voters will ever believe that two of our finest public servants are “so yesterday”, “a bridge to the past”, “would win at any cost”, are “racists”???

I can’t believe so many AA voters would be so WILLING to believe that the Clintons are “racists”. The same group that gave Bill Clinton 99% of their vote in 1996 … just a decade later, to completely turn on the Clintons based on lies and race-baiting by O’One? By God, if the Clintons can’t pass the race test, then who among us can?

I can’t believe my Party would stoop to cheating and voter fraud as a means of “winning” an election. This is not Bush we’re trying to oust. It’s McCain who has sought to keep the election clean. Not saying that McCain has not gone negative. But that bad-mouthing is normal stuff … its not amoral, illegal, vote-stealing, fraudulent, thug-politics.

You know folks, no matter who wins tomorrow … I’ve lost my Party. And, that truly grieves me.

Peniel…I am your biggest fan and I thank you again for your help with our project. You of all people must be SO frustrated, knowing what you know, and knowing a party you have been loyal to your whole life sat by and let this happen. Or, were party to it. This race has been the dirtiest I have ever seen – sorry, but from the Dem side. I thought it was the GOP that got blamed for stunts like this stuff but I don’t think they would sink to this level. I have never seen it from the GOP and I think McCain and Palin have had class and dignity throughout this race. It’s NOT negative to TELL THE TRUTH about Obama. It’s RESPONSIBLE to let people know what they are getting. I think the DNC is the filthiest political organization in America’s history. I am sorry for you, and for Gigi, and for all of my friends who have left the party and the ones I know will never go back. I am counting the minutes and seconds until this nightmare is over. Then, if the worst happens, I wave goodbye to the country I am in love with. I’m not just losing a party – I’m leaving my country. I have cried about it all day, but I know it’s what I have to do. After Biden’s comment about some big international disaster in six months, I haven’t slept one night and I will NEVER sleep with Obama in the White House. I won’t subject my family to it, not even my DOGS. I need to protect my mother, myself, my family and take it all to another country unless and until Obama is jailed as he deserves.

Comment by peniel | 2008-11-03 17:27:45

I used to live in Europe. And, I’ve seriously thought about living and investing abroad should Obama get elected. One thing for sure: I’ll diversify my investments.

And, you’re right about being SO frustrated. I know how O’One “won” the nomination (Not!) and I really wonder that no matter how many people show up and vote for McCain … if Obama will be appointed the winner.

Hopefully, McCain will NOT step aside gracefully – like Gore did or Hillary did – for the sake of “unity” in America.

Peniel,

Thank you for giving expression to my heartache and dismay with the Democratic Party. This campaign season has been such a terrible rude awakening. Like you, I thought the Democratic Party was ‘above’ Rovian tactics and cherished the same ideas/ideals as I have had since I first became interested in politics with the candidacy of Robert Kennedy. I Really believed in the Democratic Party and taught my children to believe in Democratic ideals from the time they were young children. My greatest pain has been to be at odds with these same children (now grown) who have drunk the Obama ‘koolaid.’ I can’t reach them for how do I explain that I was So Wrong??? This campaign season the Democratic Party has proven that it’s no better than the Republican Party. It has demonstrated that it too has taken on the mantra of ‘win at all costs’ and the rampid sexism and racism it has nourished have absolutely mortified me.

The Country has been So divided since the 2000 election and Obama has exploited the deep anger a lot of lifetime Democrats have felt for the past 8 years. I don’t know that he would have been successful were it not for the terrible abuses of the Bush administration. My fear is that because of those abuses, Obama will succeed. I’ve heard Many Democrats, including those who are Completely aware of how much of a fraud Obama is that even Obama is better than 4 more years of Any Republican running the White House. They’re hoping Biden will be able to ‘make up for’ Obama’s gross inexperience, maturity and depth. I’ve argued with many of them and have been completely unable to change the minds of a single one of them including my beloved sons.

Keeping the hope that McCain can deliver the vote tomorrow but fearful that he won’t. Never thought the time would come that I would be praying for a Republican to win the Presidency; my heart is heavy.

I was just reading “Taxing wealth” at CNN Money & had my worst fears realized: Obama wants to tax carried interest as regular income as opposed to the current 15% rate, in my case that’d be 35%. That pisses me off to no end. First you pay tax on your money & then you have to park it somewhere so you put it in a bank & then he wants to tax it again & Again & again, how in the hell are you ever suppose to retire.

I tried to explain this to an Obama supporter yesterday — the response was “lalalalalalalalalalalala but he’s a Democrat.”

He was not applying rational thought, I’m afraid.

And this came from an otherwise extremely intelligent man, by the way.

Ani

I’ve had the same experience with my business partner. He prides himself with being ethical in business … yet is completely blind to Obama’s lack of ethical behaviour.

He prides himself with being smart and “aware” in life … yet has seemingly been blind and asleep to Obama’s misrepresentations and fraudulant activities.

He prides himself with being a smart businessman … but can’t “get” the impact of Obama’s raise-the-taxes-and-spread-the-wealth economic policy!

I’m telling you even now, I’m selling any LT assets that would be subject to O’One new capital gains tax rates!

What a bunch of junk that I’ve had a disability for 43 years, worked my butt off to do OK, never asked the Gov’t for anything except a student loan … which I repaid in full … and yet, I’ll pay thru the nose for my hard work … to what??? give money perhaps to those who haven’t worked so hard and long!

I believe in keeping the middle class strong … but not this way!

ugh!
-peniel

This is like the Harrison Ford movies where those who drink the “Black Death” liquid loose all ability to think or reason and instead walk around like the living dead or zombies! Yikes!

I mean Obama’s kool-aid spell is beyond kool-aid power … it’s the “Black Death”

Ani,

I know so many people who are very intelligent; they are just not informed. They believe voting against O is just being bitter and disloyal because “your girl didn’t get the nomination”.

It is frustrating. People just don’t want to take the time to sort it out because it is so complex.

I am fortunate that at least my critics don’t call me racist because of all the time I spent working for social justice in a depressed area called Germantown in Philly.

That would really truly break my heart…nevertheless, I am running on empty.

I am voting for McCain/Palin not as a PUMA as I originally committed to…I am voting for this team because they are Patriots and I have learned a lot. My respect for John McCain transcends my party affiliation.

I will never ever take my Country for granted ever again. That is for sure.

I appreciate your work and always look forward to your articles. Thanks so much.

Sincerely,

Patti

PS: Ed Rendell: PUMA!!

“What We’re Fighting For”
John McCain
The Wall Street Journal
November 3, 2008

The presidential election occurs at a pivotal moment. Our nation is fighting two wars abroad, suffers from the greatest global financial crisis since the Great Depression, and is facing a painful recession. I believe in the greatness of America. I believe in our capacity to prosper, and to be safer and remain a beacon of light on the global stage. But we cannot spend the next four years as we have spent much of the last eight: waiting for our luck to change. We have to act immediately. We have to fight for it.

The institutions that we counted on — Wall Street banks, our elected leaders in Washington — failed us. We must reverse the corruption and arrogance that have overtaken these institutions, and we must place our trust in the hands of those who have never let us down, especially the American family and small businesses.

We need to grow our small businesses, not tax them. I will fight the Democrats’ plans to redistribute the fruit of America’s labor and turn our economy into a full-fledged disaster. I will cut taxes on families, seniors, savers and businesses. We need to double the child deduction, cut the capital gains tax, and keep jobs in America with a lower business tax.

I will make government finally live on a budget and enforce that discipline by the power of veto. I won’t spend nearly a trillion dollars more of your money. I will impose a short-term spending freeze and rid the government of waste, duplication and fraud. And I will chart a different course than the administration and Barack Obama and not spend your money just to bail out Wall Street bankers and brokers. I have a plan to protect the value of homes and get them rising again by refinancing mortgages so your neighbor won’t default and further drag down the value of your house.

I will end three decades of failed energy policies; stop sending $700 billion to countries that oppose American values and finance our enemies; and drill for oil and natural gas. We must strengthen incentives for all energy alternatives — nuclear, clean coal, wind, solar and tide. We will encourage the manufacture of hybrid, flex fuel and electric automobiles. We will lower the cost of energy, and create millions of new jobs.

I will not impose “one size fits all” health care on families and small businesses through expensive mandates and fines. I will bring down the skyrocketing cost of health care with competition and choice, reform the insurance market to be fair, and allow you to keep the same health plan if you change jobs or choose to stay home.

One in five jobs in the U.S. depends on trade and I will fight the threat to those jobs from Democrat plans for isolationism. I won’t make it harder to sell our goods overseas and kill more jobs. I will open new markets to goods made in America and make sure our trade is free and fair. And I’ll make sure we help workers who’ve lost a job that won’t come back find a new one that won’t go away.

Senator Obama wants to raise taxes and restrict trade. The last time America did that in a bad economy it led to the Great Depression.

While most Americans are rightly concerned with the economic crisis, a world of pressing national security challenges also awaits the next president.

The gains our troops have made in the past 18 months in Iraq could be lost if we pull our troops out prematurely and regardless of the conditions on the ground. We have also dealt devastating blows to al Qaeda, especially in Iraq, but terrorists have found sanctuary on the Pakistan frontier among those trying to topple governments in both Kabul and Islamabad.

Afghanistan is reaching a crisis point, just as Iraq did in 2006. As an early supporter of the surge strategy in Iraq, I know that turning around this situation will require more than just increased troop levels. We also need a new, comprehensive strategy, one that integrates civil and military efforts and engages with various Afghan tribes.

Other major threats loom on the horizon: the Iranian and North Korean nuclear programs; aggressive Russian behavior toward its neighbors; Venezuelan adventurism; genocide in Darfur; and global warming. And those are only the dangers that we know of. Just as few expected the Russians to invade Georgia, we remain unaware of precisely where our next crisis will erupt, or when. The only certainty is that, as Joe Biden guaranteed, the tests facing the next president will be more severe if he is seen as weak in national security leadership.

I have devoted my life to safeguarding America. Former Secretary of State George Shultz compares diplomacy to tending a garden — if you want to see relationships flourish, you have to tend them. I have done that, by traveling the world and establishing ties with everyone from dissidents to heads of state. There is great need for American leadership in the world, and I understand that only by exercising that leadership with grace and wisdom can we be successful in safeguarding our interests.

When I am president, I will not offer up unconditional summit meetings with dangerous dictators, nor will I foreclose diplomatic tools that serve our interests. I will respect our trade agreements with our allies, not unilaterally renounce them. I will close the Guantanamo Bay prison and ban torture. I will expand our armed forces and transform our civil and military agencies to win the struggle against violent Islamic extremism.

I believe that America is an exceptional country, one that demands exceptional leadership. After the difficulties of the last eight years, Americans are hungry for change and they deserve it. My career has been dedicated to the security and prosperity of America and that of every nation that seeks to live in freedom. It’s time to get our country, and our world, back on track.

Hundreds of Thousands of Voter Records Found Scattered on Highway in Florida
By Kim Zetter EmailNovember 03, 2008 | 11:38:18 AMCategories: Election ‘08
Hundreds of thousands of pages of voter documents were found scattered along a highway in Hillsborough County, Florida, Monday morning. Two empty cardboard boxes were found near the documents, suggesting they may have fallen from a truck or been purposely dumped along the highway.

Comment by McPalin | 2008-11-03 15:34:13

Hillsborough County, Florida is a Republican county and they threw away their registrations just like they threw away Hillary votes by the thousands.
Now they skew the truth in this article. Don’t believe it means nothing…the story is skewed.

~Hundreds of thousands of pages of voter documents were found scattered along a highway in Hillsborough County, Florida, Monday morning. Two empty cardboard boxes were found near the documents, suggesting they may have fallen from a truck or been purposely dumped along the highway.

The documents, which filled nine plastic bags when collected, contain names, addresses, phone numbers and party affiliation of Hillsborough County voters.
It appears, however, that the documents aren’t the county’s voter registration applications since they also contain the voters’ registration numbers, precincts where they are registered to vote and a check box next to each voter’s name indicating their choice of Barack Obama or John McCain in the presidential election and whether they need a ride on Election Day, according to the Tampa Tribune. The latter would not be on a county voter record.

A spokeswoman for the county elections office suggested the documents might belong to a candidate or party that obtained voter information from the county, presumably for get-out-the-vote efforts.

Excellent commentary by Mr. Schieffer.
I draw the same inference as you Ani…I STRONGLY suspect Mr. Schieffer will vote McCain/Palin.

Any informed, educated voter who hears Mr. Schieffer’s commentary will assume the same thing.

BTW, OT but important-I cant post it enough times…

Dear Fellow NQ bloggers:

PLEASE GET OUT THE VOTE:

1-call family, friends this weekend and -make sure they know where they have to go to vote & ask if they need a ride.If they do, arrange for one.

2- Call your local Republican office and volunteer to work as OBSERVER at your local poll.

BY LAW, polling clerks MUST provide duplicate list of local registered voters at each polling location.
Polling clerks are supposed to update this list EVERY HOUR and keep it available for public review.

Check with your local Republican headquarters if anyone has been assigned to particular polling locations in your neighborhood to review this list.

If no one has been assigned, offer to go look through the book at around 5 or 6pm and see which registered voters names HAVE NOT BEEN CROSSED OFF YET.

IF their names have not been crossed off, it means they have not voted yet. If they have not voted yet, copy their phone numbers & CALL THEM IMMEDIATELY.

The book contains names, phone numbers, and addresses of the registered voters.

Call these registered voters who have not voted yet and remind them what time polls close, ask if they know which poll site they have to go to vote, ask t hem if they need help getting to the polls.Do this right up until the polls close.

PLEASE…THIS WILL BE A VERY VERY Tight race.
We need to make sure the registered voters vote.

Please copy this message and pass it on to friends and family and neighbors and colleagues.

I live in northern New York State. A State that has voted Democrat since I can remember.
I suppose I could throw in the towel and say, I won’t vote for McCain because it’s a wasted vote.
I will NEVER say it. NEVER !
My vote counts , and if it counts for anything it counts for me to say , I voted for the right man.
So tomorrow morning, I will be there at my neighborhood voting locale, bright and early, rain or shine, (or snow , it happened last week) and I will smile and pull that lever for my candidate, John McCain and feel good about it.
God Bless the USA

Sure it counts. Even if your side loses, your vote will be used in polls and estimates of all future elections. And in the shorter run, everyone will take a good look at how close things are, which makes it even more important, if you believe you are on the losing side, to vote! At least your opinion will be heard.

Comment by RPL | 2008-11-03 17:02:03

Maybe across the board of 10% is too much, but the polling firms have a tendency to overweight the democrat in any race by about 5%. Obama tended to overpoll versus his results by anywhere from 5% to 8%. It looks like what the above poster is doing is just re-weighting the data for a more “realistic” party weight.

I can go into this in more detail if you would like.

Good for Bob! My family has been Yellow Dog Democrats for 3 generations. Strong union men in our family. During the Stevenson/Eisenhower election after WWII, my Grandfather (a true patriarch and gentle tyrant) drove my Grandmother (for the first time) and 2 maiden Aunts to the polls to vote. My Aunts were educated, working women but still…many southern unmarried women lived at home. When they returned to the house, Papa suddenly felt something was off. He said to my Grandmother: “Now Mamie, you did vote for Adali didn’t you?” She replied: “No Papa, we all voted for Ike.” They had 2 sons who came home from WWII, one with Patton’s army the other in the 101st Airborne and wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. She was so grateful to Eisenhower for “bringing our boys home.” Papa was so upset, he turned off his hearing aid and for the next 3 months wouldn’t speak to anyone in the house.

Somehow, I think my both of my Grandparents would be proud of me for voting for Country First. He would have left the party too. After all, his first ancestor had helped Washington during the Revolution and FDR was almost as great a hero to them.

My prayer for the USA is that we return to pride of country, patriotism and doing what is right for our people. We have a huge mess to undo but we are up to the challenge. We’ve overcome greater ones.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-11-03 15:27:59

I agree. We have to stop all this nonsense and get back to the business of being the United States of America and what made this country great. Hard work, love and appreciation of the opportunities, freedoms and democracy here. Young people now have been “dumbed down” and are a bunch of selfish, spoiled punks and brats. I for one am ready to give them all a time out.

McCain 52% Obama 47% Other 1%.

The whitey tape exists. McCain asked that it not be released. After the election, one way or the other, it will be released. I disagree with McCain’s decision on this.

If any rational person denies the tape exists, they have a hard time explaining why the Obama campaign first denied it, then backtracked and gave the lame excuse that she was saying “why’d he.” Silly to think they would have contorted themselves into an explanation so ridiculous unless they were thinking, “oh shit, they have it on tape.”

No matter what happens tomorrow it will not be the end of the war on Obama. We want him out of the senate, out of the spotlight, out of the country.

Comment by DeaninMi | 2008-11-03 16:22:27

Isn’t it funny how none of the Obots came by and apologized to Larry for saying the tape doesn’t exist, even though the Obama campaign confirmed it’s existence with the “why’d he” spin?!?

Weren’t they supposed to be the “high info, degreed” voters? I only ask because the ones that come on here just sound so stupid.

And I want the Democratic Party disinfected and hosed down, Shiloh. If McCain pulls this off, I want to see the perpetrators of this fraud drummed out of Washington: Dean, Brazille, Pelosi, Frank, Reid [and the list goes on].

I will not support the Dems until they rid themselves of these rabid partisans, politicians who would sell loyal members a crass fraud and call it good. They’ve sold their souls. Let them seek redemption in the private sector.

P.S. – What happened to that “Whitey” video that Larry put his reputation on and all the commenters here were quick to defend?

Larry stated sometime last month that the owner of the “Whitey” tape is an Obama supporter who has refused to release it. Chances are he/she were bribed.

But I don’t need a “Whitey” tape to believe that Michelle Obama talks like that. Judging from the Obamas’ radical circle of friends and associates, anyone with even half of brain can conclude that she talks like that in private.

I’m in Ohio and I say McCain wins Ohio by more than 5. I also don’t think there is any way to crunch numbers at this point because the data that is being fed into the polls is all skewed and the product of wildly speculative assumptions. The only numbers to crunch are those from early voting which have fallen way short of Obama’s design. If there is anything that can be called a predictor it is that.

By the way, everyone needs to tune out anything you hear about exit polling. That was the plan in 2004 to suppress republican vote. They has skewed exit polling that showed Kerry winning here in Ohio easily but he lost by over 100k votes.

This year they have decided to take that a step further and use the polls leading up to the election in the same way. They will be proven equally wrong. It will all be about turnout tomorrow. Are the bots more determined than we are? more dedicated? more willing to work? do they care more? do they take this as seriously? I don’t think so either.

Comment by IndigoGrrl | 2008-11-03 16:13:54

I agree with you that the polls are being used as a vote suppressor… but I also worry that this will be the driving force that the crazies use to riot when they start screaming that the election has been stolen after being told for months that it was in the bag.

Comment by Archimedes, give me a place to stand... | 2008-11-03 16:39:10

As per the Odinga fiasco. And the DNC has already demonstrated at RBC, is quite willing to use exit polls as an arguement against actual ballots.

See, 4 MI delegates.

Never done this before so not sure why I am not dropping them off until 9. I will find out tomorrow. After I am done w that I will ask them if they need help calling voters who have not shown up to vote yet or need a ride. Then my mom is coming over and we’re going to drink margaritas to celebrate John McCain and Sarah Palin’s win.

Archimedes-
Do you have phone numbers handy that you can contact to report ‘questionable” incidents in your polling location?

Also, bring camera, camcorder, taperecorders-whatever you can

One last thing-

Any citizen has access to the Registered voters log at your polling location.

There are two copies that are constantly updated by the poll workers.

The logs contain names, address, phonenumbers (& party affiliation) of people registered to vote at particular polling location.

When voter comes in to vote, poll worker must cross off name of the voter (in BOTH logs).

If you can help out-please contact your local Republican Party headquarters and see if they want you to copy names & phone numbers of people who have not come in to vote yet by mid afternoon.

THIS IS A STRONG CAMPAIGN STRATEGY BEING USED BY THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN TO MAKE SURE ALL REGISTERED DEMOCRATS ARE CALLED AND COME IN TO VOTE TOMORROW. OBAMA VOLUNTEERS HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO OFFER RIDES TO VOTERS.

I Used to be a registered Democrat (will officially change my party designation AFTER election).

I am still on the Democratic party phone list, & email list .
I have been BOMBARDED by our state and local Democratic clubs asking me to volunteer on election day to go to polls as observer, look at this registration log and copy names & phone #s of Democrats who have not come in to vote yet-and call these people up, remind them what time polls close, ask if they need a ride to the polls and call volunteers who have offered to drive voters to the polls.

I am a poll worker. I have witnessed this tactic in the past and it is very effective way to get out the votes at the last minute.

Please , fellow NQ bloggers-please call your local Republican party leaders (google Republican Party, your city, your state) to get phone numbers.

The headquarter offices will be open until VERY LATE this evening. Call NOW!!!VOLUNTEER.

If there was ever a time our nation needs us to step up and do our share (in addition to voting)…this is it.

This may be THE MOST IMPORTANT act we as average citizens can do -in our lifetime- to help our country .

Comment by Shiloh | 2008-11-03 15:26:37

Especially with the trend being toward McCain, I just don’t think Obama can win these states where he is only up by a few. The polls assume that party affiliation will hold the same patterns it has in the past. In other words the same percentage of democrats will vote for the republican as in the past. In other words, the PUMA effect is zero! I don’t think so.

The purpose is to suppress the McCain vote. I don’t think it will work. Turnout will rule, and Obama did MUCH more poorly with early vote turnout than he counted on.

Comment by McPalin | 2008-11-03 15:54:59

For those who sit this out: you may not know his but another one of BO’s fraud tactics is to gain the help of paid-off states election leaders in claiming your non-casted Dem vote as a vote cast for BO. If they are late in calling the state it’s because they go down the list of Dems who didn’t cast and claim it for BO. FYI

Pathetic
Obama has a talk with “black leaders” from around the country and when I read the article I am just lost. Black Leaders? F’ing P-Diddy? Oprah? These are now our “Black Leaders? I think I might just change party affiliation and run for office as a Republican. Black elected officials in the Dem party have just lost the last shred of common sense and this shows me they have bad judgement if they believe Oprah and P Diddy are now our AA leaders from around the country. If this is who will advise him during his 3 am moments…good lord.

Black Democrats have lost all credibility if they believe these individuals are leaders and should have a say in our government. I dont know who they are anymore. I am unable to support that party. It sealed the deal for me listening to that writer from Huffington Post call for a private citizen to be assasinated on air just for asking a question. I cant believe it. While everyone is looking the other way. Silence is acceptance and agreement and it sealed the deal for me.

I have been thinking about this for a while. But listening to a person call for someone to be killed
on air is just to much. Hell at this point I dont know which party is for me. But to have a impact, the Dems and the Repubs are the two major parties. My contract ends in 2009. I dont know but I cant believe these are the people Obama discuss politics and decisions with and label them African American Leaders.

This man and his surrogates epitomize THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY! If our enemies see that these are the people he will confer with and call “leaders” from around the country, yes we will get tested. What the hell does Oprah and P Diddy have to offer, what can they contribute to the conversation? Our government? What in gods name is wrong with people voting for this man? His so called leaders are in the goddamn entertainment industry! When he needs advice from “black leaders” on what to do he calls fucking Oprah and P Diddy? I am astounded that people would do this to us, would put us in a position where there is no hope for success.

Barack Obama just completed a conference call African-American leaders around the country, the end of which my colleague Glenn Thrush was able to listen to, and he sends over his notes.

The 10:15 call featured Oprah Winfrey, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Donna Brazile, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, and Rev. Joseph Lowery, as well as Obama himself.

Obama, according to a participant, talked talked about the election in the context of history, and what it would say to the world to see his daughters play on the South Lawn of the White House.

Comment by Diana | 2008-11-03 16:15:06

I think you would be elected as a Republican politician Patsy. Being a moderate and able to step outside the box to look at the big picture I think you’d also be good for the Republican party. They’re trying to get back to the smaller government, less spending. McCain and Palin will be good for the party. It’ going to take years to get back the Democrat Party because they have no desire to change what has been happening. After what I heard last night coming from that Democrats mouth that we should just let Russia attack Georgia, like those human lives count for nothing…it physically sickened me.

WHY I BELIEVE IN A MCCAIN WIN:

1. Nov 2nd IBD Poll – McCain only trails 44.6% to 46.6% (8.7% unsure; margin of error +/- 3.4%): The IBD Poll was the most accurate poll in 2004. IBD Poll as of today has McCain down by only 2 points (within the margin of error), ESSENTIALLY TIED.
2. Undecided voters to go to McCain: AP Poll has 14% of voters are undecided, the majority of these undecided voters are Democrats and 4 in 10 supported Hillary! These undecided voters are likely to break for McCain (the undecided voters in primaries went for Hillary, NOT for BHO). Generally, opinion polls are showing significant tightening (though you don’t see it reported in the mainstream media) and even the opinion polls showing Obama leading ignore the fact that 7% to 14% of their samples are undecided voters.

3. Hillary Clinton Supporters: I believe that 30-50% of Hillary supporters or (at least 20% of Democrats) will vote for McCain.

4. Certain polls under-represent Republicans by more than 10 percentage points: For example the Gallop daily election poll: Party ID breakdown: In the final poll, 38% of U.S. adults identified as Democrats, 34% as independents and 26% as Republicans.

5. Polls during the Primaries over-estimated BHO and underestimated HRC, remember Hillary was suppose to lose NH, TX, Indiana, Ohio, Penn. So I suspect that the polls again are overestimating BHO and this time underestimating McCain.

6. Florida: I believe Latinos and Jewish voters in Florida will break for McCain.

7. Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania could go for McCain. Hillary won that state by 10 points and by 90%+ of votes in rural Penn. Those voters BHO referred to as bitter Americans clinging to guns and religion will NOT vote for BHO. John Kerry won Penn in 2004 by only 2 percentage points. Also, the Obama video discovered in which he declares his plans to bankrupt the coal industry.

8. Despite outspending McCain 4-to-1, McCain is gaining momentum and the race is still so close. It is truly remarkable that – despite BHO outspending the McCain 4-to-1, the race is still so close. Remember BHO outspent Hillary 3-to-1 in Pennsylvania during the primaries and BHO still lost by 10 points.

9. Cards stacked against McCain, yet this race is still so close: Despite Bush’s unpopularity, despite a slowing economy, despite extreme media bias in favour of Obama (first against Hillary and now against McCain) this race is still so close. This is a true testament to the trust and respect voters have for McCain as a person and as a candidate.

10. I believe Americans will vote for McCain-Palin in response to “the absolute arrogance, elitism, condescending, patronizing and in-your-face voter suppression campaign – don’t vote for McCain, he can not win — being conducted by the national media on Senator Obama’s behalf.”

11. Americans appreciate that McCain has EARNED our vote: (1) His service since the age of 17 to our country in the military and in Congress, (2) His strong character and truthfulness, (3) His experience is unmatched and exceptional, he is prepared to lead our country through these difficult times, (4) He is right on the Economy: lower taxes, smaller Government (reduce spending), and the need to preserve the American dream (unlike BHO who would implement a socialist Agenda), (5) His determination to find solutions to achieve Energy independence, (6) He is a true Maverick/Reformer, has eliminated Pork and has a proven track record of working in a Bi-Partisan fashion to find solutions, (7) He will have the best interest of America at heart and is a true believer that America is a nation of good and not evil.

Comment by Shiloh | 2008-11-03 15:39:58

Today’s IBD/TIPP is back to 4.5 for Obama. Doesn’t matter. The state polls in swing states showing it within 5 points or so mean Obama does not have the padding he needs. The are so many UNMEASURED factors, and all of them tend to lean to McCain as you have illustrated. I say McCain wins any state where he is within 7.

By the way, everyone needs to tune out anything you hear about exit polling. That was the plan in 2004 to suppress republican vote. They has skewed exit polling that showed Kerry winning here in Ohio easily but he lost by over 100k votes.

Totally off-topic, but in case anyone around here is interested (I know that this topic provoked fevered interest earlier in the year), it appears that Hawaii has confirmed that Obama’s birth certificate is authentic.

http://www.startribune.com/templates/Print_This_Story?sid=33665419

Comment by Shiloh | 2008-11-03 15:43:57

That is false. They have said he has a bc on file, which they did not say before. And they have said it shows he was born in Hawaii which many never even disputed. It is wrong to think that because he was born in Hawaii he is a natural born citizen. If he was ever a citizen of another country, and there is much evidence he was, he loses natural born citizen status regardless of where he was born.

It also again raises the question why can’t we just see the damned certificate. The answer is, that in addition to the citizenship problems, it also shows some very embarrassing things about his paternity.

It was the American people who voted!

The Fraud has spent close to $700M, maybe more. What if McCain spent $700M and the Fraud spent his pfc max of $84M? People would say McCain bought the election with the help of the MSM.

I am betting McCain/Palin wins.

I discount the polls because there is a huge “Hillary” factor, out there, not unlike the petite “Nader” factor. We saw what impact the “Nader” factor had. You have to believe in your cause! We’ve all said this: If Barack Obama were the right kind of person, he should have stood up and walked out of Trinity Church. That you do the right thing, regardless of “affiliations” and prior allegiances.

Then, why is it such a scandal for us to stand up and walk out on the (formerly) Democratic Party, in order to do the right thing?

Country First.

Stand up!!!!!

p.s. / Hint, hint: Obama’s not a Democrat. He’s merely running under the party banner. He has his own party, his own religion [himself] and his own agenda.

Comment by McPalin | 2008-11-03 16:50:03

Obama is not a Democrat. He only says he is and been claiming that since his run for IL state senate. He’s a member of the New Democratic Socialist/Communist party that allows dual party membership in order to fool the voters.

This is the BIGGEST and easiest Decision of our Generation…McCain will be our president.
America is currently at war with numerous Islamic terror regimes operating in more than 60 countries, including our own
American soldiers are in harm’s way, and though we seldom notice in our daily lives, so are millions of American civilians at present
America and the world are in real financial crisis that some say will be the worst since the Great Depression
America is completely divided down left vs. right ideological lines and as a result, Washington is not working well at all
American principles and values are under constant attack
And many Americans no longer hear a negative connotation in the terms “socialism” and “communism” – some seem completely unfamiliar with these terms
Both the federal government and the dollar itself are on the verge of complete collapse
And enemies around the globe are waiting for a weak moment to pounce
There has never been more at stake than all that is at stake in this particular election. Yet somehow, almost 50% of legal American voters won’t even bother to vote on November 4th, millions of illegal voters will try to vote, and the balance appear evenly divided down the line that separates “Traditional Americanism” from “Socialized Globalism.”

I like the clip and the sentiment. Schieffer says, however, it’s a repeat of an essay he wrote several persidential elections back. He is not speaking specifically about this election but it does still fit.

Yes, and he credited it as such before he made the comments. But I am of the belief that nothing is by accident and it is most interesting that he decided to share it again.

I’d still like to see/hear the original piece. Why? I don’t believe the rise of Hitler & fascist party has ever come up in American politics before. Certainly not recently. I’m guessing he took a few liberties from his original piece. I don’t think he reference nazism, in his first piece.

I had a long argument this morning with a friend / Obama supporter (yes, it’s possible – just not easy!) about McCain and his decision to not go after 0Bama on Rev Wright.
Actually it stated with her going after McCain for his “Country First” campaign… She said it was Bu11shit! I attempted to argue how McCains decision to NOT go after 0bama on Wright was proof. On why alone this decision shows why people should support McCain / Palin.

She didn’t want to hear any of Cone’s teachings…
It got quite heated and after I hung up the phone I wrote this email to make my point. I know it’s long but I had to get it off my chest!
I’m sharing it with all of you.

What kind of man is Presidential Candidate “Country First” John McCain?

Are we honestly to believe that John McCain is a man who practices his rhetoric?

Does “Country First” define the man? Or are these “just words?”

Country First.
This phrase has all the makings of another slick, clever and effective campaign slogan, not unlike words such as “hope” and “change.”
Where can we find evidence of the slogans validity?
So, I ask again, is “Country First” an accurate description of Presidential candidate, John McCain?

IN the words of the Governor of the great State of Alaska,

“YOU BETCHA!”

Rev. Wright and his Trinity United Church of Christ is the prime example of John McCain’s commitment to “Country First” in this election.

While Barack Obama and his minions have (not-so) cleverly used race wherever possible with statement like “make history.” they’ll tell you I’m not like the guy on the dollar bills,” “and by the way, did we mention, he’s black!…”
Senator John McCain has refused to exploit this extremely valid issue concerning Obama, his church and it’s teachings.

John McCain’s outright refusal to exploit this real issue, which could have delivered the White House on a silver platter, defines the man much more than his words.
This in itself is an example of John McCain’s commitment to Country First in its truest form.

McCains decision for many of us begs the simple question; if this issue would have been so effective why not use it, exploit it?

The answer is as ‘simple,’ as it is extremely complex.
If he had, he would have run the risk of making race relations in America far worse then they currently are.
It’s probable that if McCain had won the election using this (legitimate) tactic, there would be a dagger in the heart of the African American community and how non-blacks relate to African Americans.
If he had used Barack’s church and it’s teachings, it’s probable the tremendous gains we’ve made as a nation. Strides made by the selfless contributions of American’s heroes such as Rosa Parks, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Abraham Joshua Heschel…, and so many more committed Black and White Americans who worked so hard, and gave so much to achieve …These advances very well may have been eliminated.
Simply put,
John McCain put country first.

Do I agree with his decision? I’m not sure.
I wonder if the risk would have out gained the ultimate goal…but this was and is John McCain’s “Country First” decision.

There is no denying, had McCain chosen to use TUCC against Barack Obama, he would win in a landslide.

Here would have been his talking points:

From Rev Wright’s own declaration, the belief system at Trinity United Church of Christ,
“The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology.”

James Con’s Book:
Now, who among us believes that Barack Obama would not have familiarized himself with the writings of James Cone at the suggestion of the Reverend whose words inspired Barack’s best-selling book, “The Audacity of Hope.”?
I’ll gladly give Barack some credit here; He IS a smart guy. He no doubt was a good student. He craves information.
I can say with great certainty that when he joined TUCC, he positively read all of the homework assignments handed down from his pastor. And let’s not forget, Rev Wright was not just Obama’s pastor, he was in Barack’s words “his mentor” and “like an Uncle.”

Should have McCain chosen to use Barack’s twenty-year involvement with Rev Wright and TUCC, the issue of the man, Rev Wright would have been damaging.
The TEACHINGS of Wright and Cone’s Black Liberation Theology would have been DEVASTATING.

While Reverend Wrights now infamous sound bites are familiar to all Americans, the actual theology at TUCC is still only known by a few.
The teachings of Barack’s church are far more damaging then the tyrannical rants of Barack’s BLT embracing pastor. It’s the teachings themselves that would have (I’ll repeat) delivered the White House to John McCain on a Silver Platter.
Why do I believe this? Well, besides how crazy and racist the whole thing is… It’s because it’s much easier for the MSM and the Obama supporters to write-off Wright as a nutty individual then it is to write off the entire philosophy of Barack’s church.

Below are quotes from Dr. James Cone’s book “Black Power and Black Theology.” Again, the book Rev Wright credits as the source of the radical and racist theology embraced at TUCC.
(Basically, Barack’s TUCC homework):

“If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.”

“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community.”

“The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community.”

“Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.”

“What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal.”

Call me a nut, but I don’t think these are words that would go ever to well with “small-town” Americans who “cling to their guns…and religion…”
As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure the Cone theology wouldn’t go over too well in most major cities either.

Barack Obama dealt with his Wright problem only when he was forced to do so.
When he finally realized that his “mentor” who not to long ago worked in Barack’s campaign as his “spiritual advisor” (whatever that is) was too much of a political liability, something had to be done –
The answer?
The Philadelphia “Race Speech” or as what’s known in political circles, damage control.

What did Barack say in Philadelphia?
He threw his “mentor,” his “uncle,” the man who performed the marriage ceremony of Barack and Michelle, the man who baptized his children, the man who was a frequent guest in the Obama household, the man Barack claims is “like family,…” under the bus…

Bu that’s not all.
Barack said the issue of race in America needs to be addressed. He said that sadly we are a nation that is still divided. He said it’s time to open up the discussions on race in America… but as I sit here typing today, one day before the presidential election, I’m still waiting for him begin that dialogue…

Perhaps in Baracks mind it’s best for our nation to stay on the same path. Keep potraying the illusion that the issue of race really doesn’t exist in any large manner.

To me, this is the saddest part of this election.
Here we have an African American with the potential of being elected as our President. A man who, because of the color of is skin is uniquely qualified to begin this needed dialogue, speaking to the real problems which still do exist in White and Black America.
Barack Obama has broken this promise.
This broken promise deeply troubles me. So I wonder, why did Barack Obama break this promise?
I ‘m now convinced that if he had begun the dialogue he would have exposed himself as a supporter of the “victim complex” which in my opinion is the biggest hurdle facing the Black community. It’s the school of thought that the descendants of slavery are still “owed” and America has yet to make up for her sins. Why else?
Please, don’t twist what I’ve just said to expose me as racist.
In my heart, while no way proud of America’s past treatment of African Americans, I pray for the day we when all Americans no matter what color we are, we see our brothers and sisters regardless of race or creed, “Americans.” Not African American. Not Anglo American. Not Chinese, Japanese, Mexican… Just plain ole’ AMERICAN.
I so wish I could point to some evidence in this election cycle that Barack Obama shares my dream, my prayer.

The saddest part of all of this is that was Barack Obama, who repeatedly pleaded with Americans to not use race as in issue in this Presidential election, but is the only candidate who has chosen to do so.

But I digress; John “County First” McCain has refused to exploit the racist theology Barack Obama has amerced himself in for twenty years.
He refused to exploit this simply because he loves this county.
Because winning this election pales in comparison to his love for our country, and the legitimate fear for all of us should he have chosen to use this ‘slam dunk’ issue.

This alone (though there are many) is a prime example of why John McCain lives his “Country First” slogan, and deserves everyone’s vote.

Comment by nobonomo | 2008-11-03 16:13:52

I disagree. If McCain loved this country enough he would have used everything at his disposal to defeat Obama and he could have done it in a heartbeat. How does it help any of us for Obama to be president? It doesn’t.

Comment by Lizzie Struthers | 2008-11-03 16:22:18

I hope they’ve had many consultants because the possiblities for cheating are infinite. For eg. on the assumption the voting ballots in Florida were dumped intentionally (that’s the most likely scenario) why was the driver not accompanied?

In this election delivering ballots are like delivering gold bars. It should be under very tight security.

I’d be curious to any response to this, because this very crucial. It’s clear McCain is winning, the only way he won’t is because of criminal behavior.

Yep, history is repeating itself.

The Americans who fought in WWII and their families who supported our Counrty at home are almost gone now. They would be outraged and we wouldn’t be dealing with this now.

The time was ripe and the Ayres Community knew it…no need to be VP for 8 years and President for another 8…the time to usurp is now.

I pity this generation. They’ll thirst for a swig of water when we too, are gone.

Senator Obama is no more responsible for this fools actions than McCain is for the rednecks that show up at his/Palin’s rallys shouting “kill him”, nor the fools who were plotting to kill 88 black people and then Senator Obama. Racism is as bad in the year 2008 as it was in 1958 and that is a sad fact.

Comment by Disgusted | 2008-11-03 16:40:53

You are right Obama is not responsible, however a lot of Obamas supporters act this way, is that who we want in power? Anyone who can bring out this kind of ugliness in people is clearly doing something wrong.

Comment by Disgusted | 2008-11-03 16:43:31

Oh and by the way, no one has ever shouted “kill him” at McCain rally. That was a lie put out by the Obama campaign. They interviewed hundreds of people at that rally and no one heard it.Including secret service agents.

FYI, the “kill him” thing has been debunked, repeatedly.

If Camp Obama is going to send ‘bots over on the day before the election, why are they not sending the smart ones? Why do they keep sending the mental midgets?

Comment by DeaninMi | 2008-11-03 16:51:55

What many that follow US politics (yes 80% would vote BO but the same poll showed 80% don’t know BO’s stances on e.g. Afghanistan) over here find rather baffling is that once the nominations got settled, McCain didn’t immediately surge as ‘the’ logical candidate. The USA is a mostly center-right country (from our point of view at least), meaning a moderate that reaches ‘across the aisle’ would make the most logical candidate. McCain is the quintessential politician that fits that profile, and has the record to prove it. The rookie Senator from Illinois hardly has a record, and the times he HAS voted, he’s always been a ‘wing-nut’ (as the recent coal-controversy again points out – ‘bankrupting’ & ‘plan to skyrocket’ are not exactly moderate terms). In a sense this whole election is silly.
BTW, on BO’s far-from-moderate worldview: his post to his buddies at Daily Kos on judicial appointments and such http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/9/30/102745/165

Please read and post this. It’s confirmed by an Axelrod employee that Obama has known about Aunt Z (as well as all his far-flung family)the whole time of the campaign. He knew that she was illegal and living in subsidized housing. He had Deval P. monitor her as to keep his hands clean (his MO), yet he did nothing to help her or stop her illegal status from being corrected. How arrogant that he knew if he was caught, her status would be meaningless to the public. He just lied about it to Katie Couric’s face afew days ago.

I hate to sound cynical, but since I think everything about Obama is contrived I think this is a play for a sympathy vote. Sen. Menendez was just on Fox on Cavuto’s show. Cavuto took Menendez to the woodshed regarding Obama’s insane plan to raise taxes by over a trillion dollars to pay for the already announced Reid-Pelosi-Obama butchering of the US economy once they’re in power.

Cavuto noted that Reid-Pelosi have already announced the insane multi-trillion dollar tax increase to pay for their litany of insane leftist programs, including bankrupting politically incorrect businesses, hugely increasing foreign aid to socialist hell holes, destroying the coal and nuclear power industries, and raising taxes on “the rich” (anyone making more than $42K/year).

Cavuto then went through each of Obama’s tax proposals regarding businesses and personal income. Mmemendez, robot-like, with that glazed donut expression we have come to associate with all Obama droids, tried to tell Cavuto that Cavuto was wrong in criticizing The One’s plan for utopia.

Cavto was having none of it, and, item by item, showed how Menendez/Obama were just lying or just plain stupid. Mmenendez did not like this. After several minutes of Menendez trying to give an Obama stump speech about Evil Business and how The One would destroy business “for the good of the middle class,”

Menendez finally lost that glassy smile and, as Cavuto gave him one more spanking on still another Obama idiocy, turned to Cavuto and said, “I hope you are not one of the ones forced off the air”

I suppose — “I hope you are not one of the ones forced off the air” is anyone who dares to not worship Obama.

My vote for McCain-Palin was in part to punish the dem party — the DNC and the dumb ass Obots like the fool Menendez.

When the party isn’t doing anything for its core voters (working class Americans) it is time to walk away from the table — has the dem party ever really bargained in good faith for the faithful core dem voters? Women certainly haven’t made any significant gains.

I agree!

Many on this blog (myself included) brought this up a week or two ago – when that case concerning Obama’s BC in Hawaii came up.

We were wondering the same thing: if Obama’s grandmother was dying, why didn’t Michelle take her babies with her to be by Obama’s side in Hawaii?? So that Obama’s children could see their great-grandmother for the last time??? That would have been the decent thing to do!!

I know from personal experience that when a loved one is dying, that time is NOT the time to hold grudges (if, in fact, that is the case in Michelle’s case.)

Just being way on the outside looking in, it was EXTREMELY cold for Michelle to not be there to say goodbye to her great-grandmother.

And the reason for death is given as CANCER.

Yet cancer was never mentioned BEFORE her death. There were reports of a broken hip and heart problems — so again apparently Barry chose to lie by omission.

He campaign has made a big deal of McCain’s skin cancer — and yet Obama smokes and his family has a history of cancer.

And as was observed when Obama made that trip to Hawaii last week — why didn’t he bring the children to see their grandmother for the last time???

Comment by Zeke | 2008-11-03 20:10:58

One can’t help but consider this obvious estrangement and wonder if the rift was caused by the grandmother’s position regarding her grandson. Obama’s life could truly be a serious case of insanity induced by child abuse.

So much of what he does and says seems so artificial in its construction. As though he was behaving the way he thought everyone else behaved.
I’m not making any parallels here other than the similarity of perception, but do any of you watch Dexter?

I find his use of reading about the rise and fall of the third reich when speaking about the election very interesting. So many comparisons have been made between “that one” and Hitler.

Darn good point, Fleur

Regardless of his intent, his message certainly does help us.

Mr. Schieffer’s Mom is right, voting does make you feel big and strong, mighty instead of meek even when your candidates lose.

I’ve mentioned in other comments that I’ve posted that my s/o was a Senator Obama supporter until July. In August and September he wavered a bit and was leaning back towards Senator Obama. For the past month he’s been undecided. Today he said he’s voting for Senator McCain tomorrow, in the fierce battleground of Ohio.

What I think makes my s/o’s vote relevant is he’s a moderately liberal college professor that teaches communications. Yes, he teaches all those young adults who aspire to be part of the media. He owns one booming small business and one sixty plus year old family debt free small business that until a few years ago was thriving – he had to close the doors on it this past summer, a victim of the mortgage crisis. He listens all day to NPR and supports them with his checkbook. If my liberal fifty year old college professor boyfriend is breaking for Senator McCain – a vote he says doesn’t sit well with him at all, but one he feels he has to make, tomorrow evening is going to be fascinating.

I think we’re going to see a lot of liberals over the age of forty who will break for Senator McCain tomorrow. Socialist programs, Ayers and Wright don’t scare them. Free speech, free press, the economy, protecting their 401k’s and unemployment concerns them and when it comes time to vote – Senator Obama hasn’t locked in their votes on those issues and his policies on those issues worry them.

Glad that you took time to say this.
I am seeing this as McCain’s win because of the PUMAs and their undying work. When John wins, I hope and pray that he notes the extent of the efforts of the PUMAs and the wonder that is love of country.
No matter what God has in store for this nation, PUMAs have done their duty to their country and I am humbled and proud of each and every one of them.
May God Bless America

In the past, I thought Bob Schieffer was a good reporter.
However, like the rest of the media, he has crossed the line a few times during this election.
Perhaps he is enough of a professional to now regret what he and his collegues have done!
It will be a very long time, if ever, before they regain my respect and trust…for they deserve neither, and neither does the candidate they have promoted so shamelessly!

Rick Davis all but conceded the election tonight in an interview. Said it was just a tough year to be the GOP candidate.

Comment by Pennsylvania Red | 2008-11-03 19:53:13

Too funny, L-person.

Those of us on McCain’s mailing list get exactly the opposite message from Davis.

(And no you can NOT have the last cheeto!)

C’mon Red… at least let him lick the inside of the bag!

I just want to thank everyone on here. If it hadn’t been for this blog I would have lost my mind the past few months.

I will be up late tonight praying for a McCain/Palin victory. This 30 year Dem is petrified if it doesn’t go that way.

So once again Thank You and G-d Bless this great Country, may he have mercy on us.

And (not that I would have to remind anyone here)don’t forget to VOTE!

Comment by Zeke | 2008-11-03 20:59:47

Alice!
Luv Ya Back!
I’m not down or negative here but I just wanted to tell you a thing I used to teach my ballplayers… and its something I deeply believe…
Never quit a fight
and if you lose the fight, go down with your teeth in his leg…
There is no time limit on this game… Losing only happens when you stop fighting.
Even after we put Obama back in the box, we must fight on.
If you need to focus on a thought tonight, sisters and brothers, perhaps this could substitute for worry.
Tonight as you go to sleep, focus on what WE do next to rid our beloved nation of this sickness. Who, AFTER OBAMA IS GONE, do we get rid of next?
Make your choices detailed. Have a plan. If we are truly to clean house, we better be ready.
Guys, this is what acting in Faith is all about!
We can’t change anything else. We are doing what we can and IT IS AWESOME! We can now sit back and watch, or be ready for what we are saying is going to happen and get a plan for who we ‘do in’ next.
It beats wringing your hands… and dammit, you guys are smart. There are plans to be made. Get to it!

I wouldn’t pray for a McCain Palin victory, I’d be more of a mind to want to keep this democracy and our U.S. Constitution intact, if I were you, than to put someone in office who’d do the most to destroy it. Both McCain and Palin are very much big government, more government intrusion, when you actually listen to what they say than can even be claimed against Obama.

Sorry, but if this GOP is going to vote big government, I’ll vote for the candidate who is admitting to it honestly. That would be Senator Obama.

Incredible…

Look at what was emailed to Obama campaign workers/supporters today.

P.S I AM NOT an Obama supporter but I am still on the DNC mailing list. I am a FORMER life-long DEMOCRAT who is waiting until after the election to officially change my party designation.

I do not believe the Polls. I’m not saying McCain will win, but I believe it’s close. I live in upstate NY and the majority of Democrats I know, are not voting for Obama. What I’m worried about are the exit polls tomorrow. They will not be right either. Remember NH in the primaries. The polls and the Exit Polls were both wrong. The Media could make it seem like Obama won and keep the McCain voters home in the West. We all need to vote.

New Troopergate report clears Palin
By LISA DEMER

(Just part of he article)

But the new report says the Legislature’s investigator was wrong to conclude that Palin abused her power by allowing aides and her husband, Todd, to pressure Monegan and others to dismiss her ex-brother-in-law, Trooper Mike Wooten. Palin was accused of firing Monegan after Wooten stayed on the job.

The Palins have argued that Wooten was a loose cannon who had tasered his stepson, drank beer in his patrol car, and threatened Palin’s father, and that their complaints that he shouldn’t be on the force were justified.

The Troopergate matter became sharply politicized after Palin was announced as Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s running mate in Tuesday’s election.

The report, released at a Monday afternoon press conference at the Hotel Captain Cook, presents the findings and recommendations of Anchorage lawyer Timothy Petumenos, hired as independent counsel for the Personnel Board to examine several complaints against Palin.

Petumenos wrote the Legislature’s special counsel, former state prosecutor Steve Branchflower, used the wrong state law as the basis for his conclusions and also misconstrued the evidence.

Just saw Newt explain on FOX that the largest percentage of early voters in Georgia was, Hang onto Something… Women who voted in both 2000 and 2004… sound like anybody so many of you see in the mirror?
WOOT!
What is significant is that the early voters are NOT young Obama voters. They are PUMAs!

This would be a fine place to talk to the voters about a little something that came out this evening. It was not on CNN, it was on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” McCain/Palin running amok declaring how Obama so hated the coal industry that he was willing to bankrupt it. However, that was not how Obama had exactly put it. Not when you listened to the soundbite of some time ago. That was not exactly how he put it. While CNN produced this particular video clip, they did not run a video file that “The Daily Show” had unearthed, a McCain bill as it related to the coal industry, that according to his critic in the Senate, would bankrupt the coal industry. Leave it to Bay Buchannan to misrepresent Obama and leave it to Anderson Cooper to get scooped by Comedy Central.

Who has heard of “Let Freedom Ring” beyond their ads? Bet you that actually no one has until a few weeks ago. How about the National Republican Trust PAC? They didn’t start appearing until days ago. Well, Let Freedom Ring has just put out a cold war ad, we need nuclear weapons in an age when effectively the Cold War is over. And proceeds to whine at Obama because he isn’t for keeping up a nuclear presence in a post Cold War situation. What I am hearing in the election eve ad, is a group of people who went from merely radical to purely delusional. Apparently, they haven’t heard that our economy has gone bust. Our military has been seriously damaged trying to fight two wars without end. Before we can hope to restore this nation to a great power, we must first revitalize our economy and then our military. Now, against what do we employ existing nuclear weapons? Unless Let Freedom Rings wants to start some nuclear Armageddon with their ad. Think about it, as you read all of the above.
