Breaking: “FBI asked questions on Rezko land deal”

From today’s Washington Times — you know, that major newspaper whose reporter was kicked off of Obama’s plane last week, along with reporters for the New York Post and Dallas Morning News (see American Girl in Italy’s love me, or else!)”:

A former Illinois real estate specialist says FBI agents have questioned him about a Chicago property that had been bought by convicted felon Tony Rezko’s wife and later sold to the couple’s next-door neighbor, Sen. Barack Obama.

The real estate specialist, Kenneth J. Conner, said bank officials replaced an appraisal review he prepared on the property and FBI agents were investigating in late 2007 whether the Rezko-Obama deal was proper.

“Agents and I talked about payoff, bribe, kickback for a long time, though it took them only a short number of minutes of talking with me while looking at the appraisal to acknowledge what they already seemed to know: The Rezko lot was grossly overvalued,” Mr. Conner told The Washington Times Monday.

“Rezko paid the asking price on the same day Obama paid $300,000 less than the asking price to the same seller for his adjacent mansion,” he said. “This begs the question of payoff, bribe, kickback.” ….

Read the full article today at the Washington Times.

NOW, because it deserves to be read in full — and Truthteller went to the time-consuming trouble to LINK ALL of NoQuarterUSA’s articles on Tony Rezko — here is his latest article on Tony Rezko because NO ONE ELSE knows the terrible story of Tony Rezko and Barack Obama like Truthteller (who’s hosting our great ELECTION NIGHT show tonight!):

BREAKING: Obama Land Deal with Rezko and Mutual Bank Subject of New Court Complaint.”

gma_rezko_obama080110_ms-1.jpg

No Quarter introduced readers to the Mutual Bank in Chicago after a Chicago Sun-Times columnist mentioned how a certain financial institution in Chicago would become the subject of a federal probe to be conducted by Fitzgerald’s prosecutors in relation to the conviction of Antoin “Tony” Rezko. Although I cautioned I did not have conclusive evidence when I argued Mutual Bank is most probably the financial institution in question, it now appears I may have been correct.

For according to a Washington Times exclusive printed today, a Real Estate and Commercial Credit Analyst of Mutual Bank has assumed whistleblower status and filed complaint against his former employer.

The subject of his complaint is the Mutual Bank and its potentially fraudulent reappraisal of the lot on which Obama’s home sits.

Obama, we recall, was only able to purchase the mansion he could not afford in June 2005 as a result of Rita Rezko’s ability to secure a mortgage for the lot on which the home sits from Mutual Bank.

And yes, Obama is involved in this complaint, for his decision to purchase a 10 foot strip of the lot on which his home sits from Rita Rezko in January 2006 was, according to the complaint, the reason why these potentially fraudulent reappraisals of the Rita Rezko lot were drafted.

I quote the Washington Times:

In a complaint filed Thursday in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Kenneth J. Connor said that his reappraisal of Rita Rezko’s property was replaced with a higher one and that he was fired when he questioned the document.

Mr. Connor, a real estate and commercial credit analyst at the Mutual Bank Corp. in Chicago, also noted in the complaint that the bank received a grand jury subpoena in October 2006 requiring it to produce information concerning Mrs. Rezko’s purchase, including the bank’s files on the property.

Mutual Bank, Rita Rezko’s account and the mortgage Rita Rezko received from Mutual for the lot on which Obama’s home sits were the subjects of a grand jury subpoena in 2006. I recommend you read my essay on Rita Rezko, the Obama land deal and Mutual Bank for an explication of why the mortgage she received from Chicago machine banker “Uncle” Amrish Mahajan of Mutual would have raised the eyebrows of federal prosecutors.

The Washington Post continues:

The complaint also said that the grand jury wanted information on Mrs. Rezko’s checking account and loan file and that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) had audited the Rezko file - although Mr. Connor’s lower reappraisal had been replaced with a higher amount.

“Connor’s internal whistle-blowing activity at Mutual Bank implicates Mutual Bank and the potentially guilty officers thereof to prosecution under federal and Illinois statutes,” said the complaint, filed by attorney Glenn R. Gaffney.

The complaint said Mutual Bank officials could be guilty of making false statements, willfully overvaluing property, bank fraud, witness retaliation, willful violation of a lawful subpoena, FDIC violations, and state banking regulations…

According to the complaint, Mr. Connor reviewed the appraisal of the Rezko property by another firm, Adams Appraisal, which had set the value at $625,000. Mr. Connor’s complaint said that he told his bosses in a report that the property had been overvalued by at least $125,000 and that a “reasonable and fair evaluation” should have been no greater than $500,000.

Why would Mutual Bank desire to inflate the value of the Rezko property on which the Obama home sits? Why would Mutual Bank risk obstructing justice? A paragraph in the Washington Times exclusive answers these questions. I quote them again:

The complaint said the Rezko loan was approved by Mutual Bank President and CEO Amrish Mahajan and others so that Mrs. Rezko could buy a 9,090-square-foot vacant parcel of real estate. It said that in January 2006, Mrs. Rezko and Mr. Obama, along with his wife Michelle, signed an agreement to sell a 10-foot strip of the property to the Obamas. At that point, according to the complaint, Mr. Connor’s firm asked him to conduct the reappraisal.

Connor, in other words, was fired for noting that the value of the property had been inflated.

For if Mutual adhered to Connor’s appraisal, Rita Rezko would have received less money from Obama for the ten foot strip of land next to his home he purchased from the convicted slum landlord’s wife.

And Mahajan, the CEO of Mutual, had an interest in ensuring Rezko would receive more money from Obama, for Mahajan is deeply imbricated in the Chicago machine that used Obama to funnel government revenue into the privatization of public housing scheme from which Obama’s friends profited.

Now wonder why Mutual removed Connor’s appraisal from the Rita Rezko file.

Mahajan, the Mutual Bank, Rita Rezko and the Obama land deal are now the subjects of a complaint filed with the Circuit Court of Cook County, and Obama’s financial dealings with the Mutual Bank and with Rita and Antoin “Tony” Rezko are the subjects of news articles that explore Chicago corruption and questionable real estate transactions.

I guess the deal really was “boneheaded.”

No Quarter asked readers to focus on the land deal and on Mutual when the Chicago Sun-Times mentioned that a financial institution is the subject of federal prosecutors’ interest, for Obama’s decision to purchase land from Rita Rezko catalyzed all the press on his questionable land deal with convicted slumlord Antoin “Tony” Rezko.

Now we know that transaction was the subject of a federal subpoena in 2006, and now we know a complaint has been filed against Mutual for intimidating employees and attempting to increase the value of the Obama lot most probably in order to ensure Rita Rezko would receive enough money to repay the $500,000 loan she received from Mahajan and the Mutual Bank even though she only earns $35,000 per annum at her government job.

Much more is to be learned about this land deal. But now that it is the subject of a complaint and a federal subpoena filed in 2006, I imagine we will learn that Obama chose Rezko to tour the mansion and purchase the lot on which it sits in order to ensure that he could later repay Rezko for the land he could not afford.

Why else did Mahajan, one of Rezko’s bankers who also sat on the Chicago Plan Commission of Daley with Valerie Jarrett and Allison Davis, manipulate the value on the lot when Obama was ready to repay the Rezkos for the favor?

Must money always be kept within a small network of corrupt Chicago machine cogs?

I imagine we will read more about Obama and his financial dealings with Rita Rezko and Amrish Mahajan’s Mutual Bank before votes are cast in November. It was a “boneheaded” deal indeed, Senator Obama.

Jeez, I wish this had hit EARLIER!!!!!

Just got this note from a contact in Chicago… re; last night….

“I told you I’d keep my ears open for whatever re:tomorrow election day, the (ego-fest in the park w/Barack) and the possibility of civil unrest.

This is what I’ve heard on news radio tonight: The Police Dept is cancelling all vacations, time off, etc for tomorrow. (I believe the Fire Department is as well)The Hospitals in the area are increasing their emergency room staff by 10%. One of the hospitals (Mt Sinai, I believe) is getting their equipment ready to decontaminate people, clothing, etc in case there is any biological or chemical substance unleashed.”

GREAT UNITY, hug???

How was it ending up at the polls at the same time as your pals the Obama’s this morning?
For ‘just some guy’ in the neighborhood, it seems you ‘cross paths’ with them quite a bit.

I loved reading about Slicker! How lucky you are to have found each other. It made me cry.

My husband and I were rescued by our boxer boy 3 years ago. I saw his picture and just knew he was looking for us. Our lives have forever changed.

It pains my heart that Obama has made getting a dog part of his political rhetoric. I was almost sick when I read the Humane Society endorsed Obama.

If BO loses, Chicago will burn. Hell, I was in Chicago when the Chicago Bulls won their 4th championship and people were flipping cars, breaking windows and rioting in VICTORY! We had the police on horseback keeping us from going anywhere. I can only imagine the riots if this thug loses tonight. They’re expecting 1 MILLION people in Grant Park. The city will burn. The country will burn….because BO will encourage it, Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton will egg it on. Farrakhan, Wright and Ayers will lead the pack.

If I lived in the city, I’d stay home…..far away from Grant Park.

Those genius Israelis really invented one! They call it The Skunk.

http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/9949

The push to find alternative, less dangerous weaponry began in 2000 after 13 Arab Israelis were killed by police fire. In a conscious effort to reduce potential injury when force is required (and to avoid future flak), Israeli security forces are now employing a new invention: “The Skunk.”

The concoction, sprayed in a cannon-like stream into the air, showering down upon crowds, is said to be highly effective.
Here’s how one BBC reporter describes it:

Imagine the worst, most foul thing you have ever smelled. An overpowering mix of rotting meat, old socks that haven’t been washed for weeks — topped off with the pungent waft of an open sewer.

Imagine being covered in the stuff as it is liberally sprayed from a water cannon.

Then imagine not being able to get rid of the stench for at least three days, no matter how often you try to scrub yourself clean.”

The stench — which apparently lingers on the skin and in hair for days and can be smelled from quite a distance — is a serious problem. Apparently, neither soap nor tomato sauce is doing the job. It’s so potent that even police stations can’t store Skunk, as the smell permeates containers.

I always KNEW this would be an issue with Obama. Obama was in the court procedures, the judge said that she didn’t want to bring Obama up by name because of the election (I suspect she likes him). NOW they bring it up on election day. I think the judges should be tried for Obstruction of justice.

Comment by BernieO | 2008-11-04 13:53:28

And to think that the NY Times and Washington Post went berserk over accusations from con man David Hale that Clinton had been invovled in illegal doings in Whitewater - a totally bogus charge that Hale cooked up after he got caught by the Feds for embezzling $2 million from the Small Business Administration, i.e., you and me. They couldn’t let that go even after two Republicans - Jay Stevens of the Resolution Trust Corp, and Robert Fiske, the first Whitewater independent counsel - both found that the Clintons had done nothing wrong and had actually lost all their money. Yet they could not be bothered to investigate a deal that bore a lot of similarity to the deals that just got Ted Stevens convicted! I get why Republicans wanted to sell this story, but not why these two papers were so willing to push them. (Although I suspect it was similar to the Judith Miller debacle where a star reporter was not supervised. Then other papers follow suit because it was in the revered Times.)Bet they bury this one, though, if they possibly can.

How bizarre that this comes out only on election day along with the investigator saying Palin did nothing wrong in so-called Troopergate!Very disturbing.

Please forgive if this is OT…But I thought today maybe I would be excused :)…

This is an email from a friend of mine who I emailed in Ohio to pray at Noon for McCain. Interesting perspective…

Hi Honey:

Thank you so much for the email. I did pray at noon EST and also said a prayer before noon. During my first prayer something occured to me…kind of a revelation, if you will.

It occured to me that God brought John McCain through five years of harsh treatment and captivity in the Hanoi Hilton. The Good Lord could have let him die, but He didn’t. He had something else in mind for McCain. And the Presidency is what He had in mind.

Have faith, Sweet B. And thanks again….if you didn’t send me that email I may not have prayed, and I would not have had my “revelation.” Love you…we will talk soon.

I thought that I had gotten over it, but as soon as I looked at the ballot and I didn’t see Hillary’s name on it, all of the emotions that I had during the primaries came flooding back.
It was easy to vote for McCain, but I still felt unbelievably sad.

I look forward to seeing John and Sarah govern in a post-partisan way and to unite the country.

Stay strong, every one, and VOTE McCain!

I keep thinking that’s what Bob Schieffer was alluding to when he said the Nazis started their movement with an election and he would certainly want to vote against that. How you choose to deal with that is your decision. No Columbine responses are permitted, but until they rewrite the Constitution and Bill of Rights, stay true to your beliefs and speak your mind.
You are doing something people your age don’t do so much… you are thinking. That will make you seem different from them for at least until you get into college. Then it’ll get worse! :)
Kidding on the last part. I think for you that college will be where you blossom and start struttin yo stuff.

Obama was the only candidate when he ran for the Senate. He swift-boated Jack Ryan. Opened divorce records that were supposed to be sealed by the court. Didn’t suffer any consequences for it, the old story with him. The only other candidate was brought in from Maryland. So don’t blame people from Illinois for that. This is about the press and about the integrity of public servants, among whom there is now only one with any ingtegrity–John McCain.

P. S. The “youth” don’t care about integrity, the Dem youth don’t have any.

No one wants to embarrass the first AA candidate, so they don’t publicize investigations. If Obama becomes president, what happens to all these investigations? Chicago officially takes over Washington?

New Yorker political consultant Don Rose: “Money replaced bodies as the currency of Chicago politics. This new system became known as ‘pinstripe patronage’ because the key to winning was not rewarding voters with jobs but rewarding donors with government contracts.”

AKA the Illinois Combine.

The rich don’t pay taxes…neither do the poor.

The people that carry the tax burden for the country are those that make between 50-500 thousand dollars. THATS A TON OF PEOPLE. The AMT has been shafting that class secretly for years under Bush’s tax cut plan.

Now the AMT is MORE valuable than the income tax.
O’s plan to roll back the tax cut, even if he does, will cost the govt. HUGE amounts of money…who will make up that tax burden to fund all these welfare programs????????????????????????????

I know I know…the same middle class voters who are crying about change. It’s not a war on the wealthy like O seems to convey…all this bs they were fine in the 90’s….they DONT PAY THESE TAXES…It’s a WAR ON THE MIDDLE CLASS! HE IS WELL AWARE OF THIS!

Oh yeah, and after we bankrupt the coal industry I guess we can build giant light domes in the inner city and power them with hope!

Come on warriors for change…get a f-ing clue!

I think that the MSM might be in for a big surprise today:

Saturday, I attended Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin’s Campaign Rally in Raleigh. Even though I arrived around 4:45, the lines — more than four corresponding lines — were snaking around the grounds in an effort to arrive at the entrance to the NC State Fair Ground Exposition Hall. Several in the lines around me were questioning why the event was being held in the Exposition Hall.

The Hall filled quickly and thousands were outside listening to the speeches over speakers. What we learned outside from the Campaign Staff was shocking and appalling. Governor Easley denied a request by the campaign for a larger venue in the Raleigh area, and North Carolina State University denied a request to use Carter-Finley Stadium (even though there wasn’t a home football game). We learned that the campaign had fought for the Exposition Hall. We also learned the campaign was being fined because they did not have a outdoor venue permit for the speaker. Later, I learned that the State Highway Patrol had blocked the exit to Wade Avenue, preventing potential rally attendees from using that exit to the fair ground.

The Governor’s action was an attempt to suppress political speech on Saturday in a battle-ground state where Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah drew a larger crowd than Presidential Candidate Obama drew early in the Raleigh, where Governor Easley didn’t have a problem permitting the Senator to speak. Or the crowds Vice-Presidential Candidate Biden drew across North Carolina.

This is an outrageous abuse of the Governor’s power and the citizens should know about his actions.

Thanks for opening my eyes.

and I apologize for being OT in my previous post, but this stuff SUCKS

On topic, Bill Cellini, Sr. from Springfield, Illinois, another of the players in all this Chicago stuff, was indicted a couple days ago.

He’s 72, he’s rich and had an entitled life, he’s not going to prison if he can worm his way out of it. He’s another step to get our Governor, then hopefully Obama, who are all wrapped up together. He’ll sing like nobody’s business. That’s why he was next.

Please join me now in singing the greatest song about our country.
No one else has to hear you, but if you want, stand up right now and sing:

God Bless America

God bless America, land that I love;
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America, my home sweet home,
God bless America, my home sweet home.

Every time my gut starts to churn today and I start to worry, I stop and sing this verse…
Then I wipe my eyes and carry on…

Funny, but I woke up singing God Bless the USA this morning. I always cry when I hear it or watch the video.

As a life-long Dem, I have never felt so proud of my right to vote and my vote for McCain/Palin this morning.

Actually, I voted a straight Republican ticket this morning. I definitely wanted to vote against Congressman Jerry McNerney who was an early Obama endorser, even though Contra Costa County (CA) voters had selected Hillary in the primary. How dare he go against our wishes?

Let’s pray that our fellow Americans aren’t hookwinked and bamboozled by “that one.” We need the marvericks and straight talkers more than ever!

Don’t watch the MSM today. For another bright spot in your day, look at the numbers at Marston Chronicles (http://www.marstonchronicles.info.)

He says he’s never been wrong in 45 years and he’s predicting a landslide for McCain/Palin.

God Bless America.

I think the deal between Obama and Rita Rezko is a red herring. I think that what obviously went down is that the seller of both properties (remember it was the same owner) made a deal with the Rezkos to deliberately accept a lowball figure for the lot Obama bought in return for the Rezkos paying an overinflated price for the second lot. The overvaluation of the second lot served the purpose of allowing the Rezkos to justify paying a hugely inflated price (paying the full asking price) for the second lot. It basically amounted to a created a roundabout means of passing a bribe to Obama using the owner of the properties as the middleman.

In simple terms it goes like this: I’m Tony Rezko. I want to give you, Barack Obama, a large bribe. So I say, “hey buy this property from this owner and I’ll arrange to get him to give you a $300K break on the price in return for me paying HIM $125K extra on the asking price of a second lot.” Simple, elegant, highly corrupt. Get it?

Comment by wrench | 2008-11-04 13:46:57

Yes, it is corrupt and there is supporting documentation.
NQ posted it just before this article.

Comment by bemused | 2008-11-04 13:47:46

Rita might as well be Tony under another name. Your interpretation is plausible and constitutes (a) undeclared income, an IRS problem; (b)taking a gift, for which a complaint was made to the Senate ethics committee; (c) probably a little loan fraud, with the fake appraisal; (d) payback for something else, the graft part.

Justice Souter denies injunction for stay of predidential election

Justice Souter’s Clerk has informed Mr. Berg that Mr. Berg’s application for an injunction to stay the November 4th election has been denied. (The U. S. Supreme Court Docket is below.)

The defendants are required to respond to the Writ of Certiorari by December first, after which Mr. Berg will have an opportunity to respond.

THIS MEANS THE SCOTUS HAS DEMANDED RESPONSE FROM DEFENDANT (OBAMA) BY 12-1-08

He can’t just link SCOTUS to factforge or his own snopes or smears sites…well, he can TRY

Comment by Jimmy Doomuch | 2008-11-04 13:55:29

It always works that way, foolio. The respondent to a petition for cert. always is allowed to respond. He’s not required to produce a birth certificate. He’s just required to respond as to why cert. should be denied. And cert. will be denied and Mr. Berg continue in his crackpot ways.

Comment by NOBAMA2 | 2008-11-04 14:00:36

Rarely are cases cert-worthy…

Federal courts
In the United States, certiorari is the writ that an appellate court issues to a lower court in order to review its judgment for legal error and review, where no appeal is available as a matter of right. Since the Judiciary Act of 1925, most cases cannot be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court as a matter of right; therefore, a party who wants that court to review a decision of a federal or state court files a “petition for writ of certiorari” in the Supreme Court. If the Court grants the petition the case is scheduled for the filing of briefs and for oral argument.

Four of the nine Justices are required to grant a writ of certiorari, referred to as the “rule of four.” The great majority of cases brought to the Supreme Court are denied certiorari (approximately 7,500 petitions are presented each year, but just 80 to 150 are typically granted), because the Supreme Court is generally careful to choose only cases in which it has jurisdiction and which it considers sufficiently important (especially cases involving deep constitutional questions) to merit the use of its limited resources.

Comment by Jimmy Doomuch | 2008-11-04 14:11:43

Exactly, NOBAMA2. Which is why the Supreme Court will not grant cert. on this case. Which is why Berg is a crackpot. And which is why the Court is not requiring Obama to produce a birth certificate by December 1. Which is why you are wrong and wronger.

Comment by NOBAMA2 | 2008-11-04 14:17:51

Obama cannot respond with a simple denial.

HE MUST SHOW PROOF.
AND WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HIM SHOWING SOME DEFERENCE AND RESPECT TO THE SCOTUS AND SHOWING THEM A FEW DOCUMENTS?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?????

“The defendants are required to respond to the Writ of Certiorari by December first, after which Mr. Berg will have an opportunity to respond.”

Comment by Jimmy Doomuch | 2008-11-04 14:31:19

Why is this so hard for you to understand. He has to respond to the “petition”. You even quote the sentence and you still can’t get it through your thick skull. He doesn’t have to produce a birth certificate, just respond to the petition. Obama’s lawyers will respond to the petition for cert. And Berg’s petition for cert will be denied (you even pointed out that most petitions are denied). Maybe go back and google some more because you don’t seem to be getting it.

Comment by NOBAMA2 | 2008-11-04 14:37:03

Why is it so hard for you to understand this it the opportunity for the defendant to explain WHY it should be denied?

And how might a defendant do that? By whining? Directing the justices to factfuck.org?

No deary, he’ll have to man up and present a REASON they should deny. THAT would be his documents, not internet links.

Comment by Jimmy Doomuch | 2008-11-04 14:53:56

Nope. Wrong again. He does not have to show that the facts are as he says. He only has to assert that the district court was right on the law, which it was. Berg did not have standing to bring this claim. Facts — like whether Obama was born in the US (which he was of course) — never even figure into the response. You really need to get your learn on.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-11-04 15:31:01

Denying a motion for a restraining order (or injunction) only means that, after weighing the potential harm of issuing such an order now vs. waiting until later when the case is heard on its merits, the court decided in favor of later.

Also voted NO on prop 8 - to ban gay marriage. Geez, don’t we have important stuff to worry about??? I hope you post an open thread on voting experiences. It was a long line at 7:45 AM,took about half an hour. No interference, but no politicking either. One crazy looking lady had her McCain Palin shirt on and pajama bottoms. OT But Important

I am volunteering as poll worker in California.
I am on a break right now.

Ourpolls opened 7 am pacific time.

In California-voters do not have to show identification UNLESS they are first time voters (newly registered).

So far, five new voters came in to vote and we would not have known that they were new voters if we had not chatted with them. you see, on our voting logs, they were referenced with the letter “A” indicating they are active voters.

We are not required to ask for id from Active voters.

In California, all new voters are supposed to have the letter “N” next to their name in our voter log, That is the only way we (poll workers) will know to ask them for ID. Otherwise-by law- unless they have the letter “N” next to their names, we are not allowed to ask them for id.

So…hypothetically, ANYONE can come in to vote using someone else’s name-I would not know them from Adam, and if their name was on my registered voters log, they could cast a vote-even if they NEVER voted before in my district or my state. I would not know to ask them for id to verify their identity because they do not have the letter “N” (for ‘New’) next to their name.

Our precinct will report this to the California Secretary of State as well as all appropriate agencies out here but I want to know if anything similiar is going on nationwide.

Like I said, we have caught 5 such cases completely by accident so far .

Anything similar going on anywhere else?

Does anyone have anything else to report?

Susan, Larry, can we have an open thread here on NQ where voters or pollworkers can report observations including any voting anomalies?
