Welcome To The Real World!

Yes, it seems that the chickens are starting to come home to roost for some Obama worshippers, uh, I mean, supporters. Those of us using the analytical portion of our brains knew that Obama’s hype was too good to be true, but apparently, these workers for Obama are learning a harsh reality - he used them (H/T to No Quarter reader, tzada, for this link). Yes, according to this article, Obama Campaign Workers Angry Over Unpaid Wages: Former Obama workers claim they were short-changed, Obama workers are experiencing emotions I bet they didn’t count on after pounding the pavement working for The One: Anger:

Lines were long and tempers flared Wednesday not to vote but to get paid for canvassing for Barack Obama. Several hundred people are still waiting to get their pay for last-minute campaigning. Police were called to the Obama campaign office on North Meridian Street downtown (Indianapolis) to control the crowd.

The line was long and the crowd was angry at times.

“I want my money today! It’s my money. I want it right now!” yelled one former campaign worker.

A former spokesman for the Obama campaign said 375 people were hired as part of the Vote Corps program and said people signed up to work three-hour shifts at a time. Three hours of canvassing got workers a $30 pre-paid Visa card.

The workers showed up to get their cards Wednesday morning at 10:00 am.

“There was a note on the door saying 1:00 pm and then at 1:20 pm everybody was like why is nobody here. They just got here and they’re trying to get it organized,” said Heather Richards, a former campaign worker.

Well, golly gee willikers - what a surprise! People are having a hard time getting Obama to fulfill his obligations! You’d think with the gazillion dollars from illegal contributions he received, he would have plenty of green to spread among his people, maybe even some bonuses for jobs well done for the 375 workers who came to get paid. If you thought that, you’d be wrong!

Eventually people did start getting paid, but some said they were missing hours and told to fill in paperwork making their claim and that eventually they would get a check in the mail.

“Still that’s not right. I’m disappointed. I’m glad for the president, but I’m disappointed in this system,” said Diane Jefferson, temporary campaign worker.

“It should have been $480. It’s $230,” said Imani Sankofa.

“They gave us $10 an hour. So we added it. I added up all the hours so it was supposed to be at least $120. All I get is $90,” said Charles Martin.

“I worked nine hours a day for 4 days and got paid half of what I should have earned,” said Randall Waldon.

Some people weren’t satisfied with filling out a claim form for money they felt was still due to them.

“They say that they gonna call you or they going to mail it to you, but I don’t know. We’ll see what happens,” said Antron Grose.

“Talking about they’ll mail it to us. I ain’t worried about that, man. They’re not going to mail nothin’,” said Martin.

Seems Johnny Mac was right about the Redistributor in Chief - he wants to redistribute YOUR funds, not his! So, you just keep sitting by that mailbox and phone - I am SURE they will be rushing to get you the money for which you worked. Ahem. (And given this, I wonder how well the Obama camp is going to do issuing those 1099s in January?)

And if I was the woman in this video below (from No Quarter Election Thread), I sure wouldn’t be holding my breath:

If Obama is having, um, difficulties actually paying his employees wages earned, I’m not sure why this woman thinks Obama is going to do ANYTHING for her, much less pay her mortgage and her gas. Wow - it is just hard to fathom the gullibility of some people…

And in more news in the “Welcome To The Real World” round-up, the passing of Proposition 8 in CA and Amendment 2 in FL were a rude awakening to many. Here’s the thing - while all those Hollywood types (talking to YOU, Ellen) were singing Obama’s praises, they, like so many others, ignored that the bottom line of his pandering message was that HE IS AGAINST SAME SEX MARRIAGE. He has said that time and time again including in his wishy-washy message that he doesn’t think Prop 8 should pass in CA, but that he is against same sex marriage all the same. So, guess what? It passed, because a lot of his constituents, especially African Americans and the evangelicals he courted, are against same sex marriage. Had any of those mindless people BOTHERED to actually look at his “words, just words,” they would have known that.

But no, Cher, and Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon, and Wanda Sykes, and all of those people wanted to go with the cool guy, so they, along with the REST of Democrats, turned a deaf ear and blind eye to the shenanigans Obama was using in caucus states and that the DNC used to take votes away from Hillary, both in FL and MI, as well as the COnvention. I don’t think the constituents SHE courted would have voted FOR Proposition 8. Oh well - the GLBT community, and women, have all been thrown under the bus for the ascension of THE ONE. Hope you’re happy now because you helped to make it happen!

Oh, wait - those people in CA aren’t. But all those folks protesting there can just get over themselves - they have no one but themselves to blame for the passage of Proposition 8. Had any of the big wigs there stood up and cried foul over the RBC’s decision, or DEMANDED a fair, DEMOCRATIC Convention, I doubt Prop 8 would have passed. So, tough, all you Hollywood folks who oohed and ahed over The One in Denver and had no qualms with the DNP violating its own rules - you did it to yourselves. Hate it for ya, Ellen (and Portia),and the other 18,000 people affected by this, but hey - maybe you shouldn’t have been pushing Obama so much during your show. And maybe all you people should have actually done your freakin’ homework on what was happening in the election.

While I am at it, over 62% of Floridians voted FOR Amendment 2 voted FOR Amendment 2, to Constitutionalize discrimination in their state. In other words, a whole bunch of Democrats voted for that, too. Thanks so much, all you wonderful folks - in both states. What a healing uniter Obama is, isn’t he?? Hey, that’s what they keep claiming, so it HAS to be true - just not for women in general and GLBT people in particular. Whatever.

Anyway, who cares about social justice for GLBT and women now that we have the first biracial president-elect? Who cares about ACORN using TAXPAYING DOLLARS to commit massive amounts of voter fraud, and how they will surely get even more money from and ALL Democratic government (I mean, really - if they were already getting millions of dollars before, as well as new-mortgage kickbacks, and Chris Dodd wanting to give them BILLIONS of dollars from the bailout repayment, who the hell is going to stop them NOW?)? Who cares that their GOTV arms committed voter fraud for Obama and that his followers voted more than once? What’s the big deal, anyway?

Sadly, that is the real world we have now, where caucus fraud will be institutionalized, voter fraud will continue to be tolerated, even excused by people who should know better (that is, the people who, thanks to all of the “poor little ACORN” posts by the NY Times, think ACORN is being beset upon by Republicans and they aren’t doing anything wrong - even when Democrats admit they are. Bob Herbert is especially guilty of this tactic. Apparently, these readers have missed his *subtle* Obama bias…), and electronic voting machines will continue to flip ballots. That is our world today, because really - who is going to stand up against caucus fraud now? Not the Democrats, who KNEW it was occurring but said nothing, or the MSM, which ignored Clinton’s attempts to inform them about documented fraud. Who’s going to stand up against voter fraud? Not Democrats - that would cast aspersions on THE ONE. Who will stand up for us?

And who will stand up for women? Not the Democrats, that’s for sure. They made a sport of misogyny this election, and haven’t let up yet on Governor Palin, either. They not only stood by while Obama laid claim to Clinton’s ideas, but were in a wicked big hurry to shove her out of the race (once she created those policies, of course, because what would Obama have done if he had to create them on his own??). Oh, and they didn’t just shove her out, they treated her with contempt, as if she had no right to come to the party. They treated her in a way they have never treated ANY man, even one as inexperienced and unqualified as, well, Obama. No, they not only stood by, they engaged in, and encouraged, the misogyny we experienced this year (did anyone EVER hear Obama speak out against hanging Sarah Palin in effigy in West Hollywood? No. Ever hear him speak out against the misogyny directed at Clinton? No. No, he engaged in it, not fought against it.). I bet Obama wishes he had stolen Clinton’s economic proposal now that the Dow tanked the worst after his election of any time in history precisely because they DON’T know where he stands. That can’t be a good omen for things to come, and rubs a bit of the shine off of his “win.” I reckon he shouldn’t have been so dismissive when John McCain claimed her plan (and actually gave her credit, something Obama has NEVER done). Oh, well!

It’s going to be some four years here in the real world, with more rude awakenings, more expectations dashed, and more dreams broken. Heck, Obama’s workers are already experiencing that, as well as his anti-war supporters with the choice of Emmanuel as his Chief of Staff. Well, time to wake up, people, to what the rest of us have always known - Obama is a con man, and you fell for it. Don’t waste your time waiting by the phone or the mail-box for your wages, or hope of mortgages and gas paid (!!!). It ain’t gonna happen - but we could have told you that…Oh, wait - we did tell you that, and you didn’t believe us. How about now?? It hasn’t even been two days since the election, and look at the shine fade…

AP: Obama plans December trip to Hawaii - To honor his Grandmother

Comment by OBushMa | 2008-11-06 19:52:24

Oh, for pete’s sakes. Go NOW and honor her already.

Comment by Aleph | 2008-11-06 20:42:41

The only way he could honor her would be to say that he was wrong to smear her as a racist, when she was too ill, too old and dying of cancer, to defend herself. A grandson doesn’t get more vile than this. If he were a child under Mao he would have turned her in for one reason or another.

We have to make sure that Obama and Ayers do not impose black liberation theology on our children.

Comment by janet | 2008-11-06 22:11:41

shut up you creep…he never threw her under the bus, for god’s sake…you are really crazy. You think that when he said she had made racist remarks that was something she was not aware of? that he was telling some secret about her? why would she care if he said something like that…he just spoke the truth. he had a wonderful relationship with her and I’m sure she was fine with his speech.
Hillary, your beloved, had the SAME policy towards Gays, as did Biden and many others. No candidate would come out and support gay marriage if they wanted to win the election…they would be immediately out. Obama made his position very clear…he was vehemently against proposition 8. he cannot put his face on every issue out there….I worked hard for NO on Prop 8, made calls for weeks and handed out literature, but our side was too little too late…the other side (Mormons, Evangelicals, Catholics) had money and a big machine at their side and attacked this with gusto and determination. its unfortunate.
all that crap about obama being a mysoginist? prove it….you have nothing but a bunch of smears. clinton made some unfortunate remarks and many African Americans called him on it. it didn’t come from Obama. and where was Hillary to defend ANYTHING said against Obama???? Give me a break…that is pure crap that you and all the HIllary worshippers are spouting now, you are so bitter and angry.
Anyone looking at Obama and how he treats his wife and daughters can see he is not a mysoginist. How unlike WJC, the man who used women for one thing only…absolutely NO respect for women in general and then Hillary and Bill blaming the bimbos for his messes - how typical ‘male’ behavior. Talk about mysoginistic!

Comment by imustprotest | 2008-11-06 22:13:14

Sorry, Obama is a misogynist and a narcissist. If you can’t see it and you’re really a woman, I feel sorry for you, good luck sweetie.

Comment by Silence DoGood | 2008-11-06 23:01:58

It is hard to take your diatribe seriously. You preach about how Obama is not a sexist and then at the end of your sermon, you use a sexist slur.

“then Hillary and Bill blaming the bimbos for his messes”

Why didn’t you call Bill a bimbo???? hmm..

No wonder you don’t think Obama is sexist. You apparently don’t understand what sexism is..

PS- learn how to spell misogynistic correctly if you plan to use it effectively

Comment by RebelCarol | 2008-11-06 23:46:59

clinton made some unfortunate remarks and many African Americans called him on it.

The AA’s tried to make Bill Clinton’s remarks racist when his remarks were NOT racist. Obama didn’t come out and say anything, because he let his pit bulls do the attacking.

Comment by Newly Independent | 2008-11-07 05:10:54

clinton made some unfortunate remarks and many African Americans called him on it.

They didn’t, you dumbass.

Bill Clinton stated in a rally in January that Obama’s (then) plans for troop withdrawl from Iraq were a fairytale (and they were.) Obama - with the full complicity of the MSM - twisted that remark to make it seem like Bill was referring to Obama’s run for the Presidency being a “fairytale.” African Americans who were present at the Clinton rally in question confirmed this.

Hillary Clinton stated that it took Lyndon B. Johnson - a PRESIDENT - to sign the Civil Rights Act into law. Once again, Obama - with the full complicity of the MSM - twisted that remark to make it seem like Hillary was diminishing Dr. Martin Luther King’s role in the civil rights movement.

The bastard Obama won the majority of Black votes from then on out during the primary as a result.

Oh - and by the way: in a memo that leaked from his campaign after those incidents, Obama admitted that he was responsible for the race baiting.

Comment by tzada | 2008-11-07 09:04:20

Well I am not and never was a Hillary supporter. In fact I voted for Obama in the primary. He is all and worse than people say. You can defend him, but truth to tell he would not even spit on you. He has used you and will use you until your usefulness is over.

As for his wife and kids…. He is scared to death of Michelle. As long as she lets him go where his desire takes him and keeps her in power, she will be content. As for his daughters. So? It is only natural to love your children, so you have no point there either.

Your rant was just that a rant. Have you been fitted for your burka yet? Remember there is no fun in Islam.

Towards the end, the Romans found themselves catering to sullen, ever-growing, unproductive mobs and their populist demagogic leaders. The government provided bread and circuses to stave off rioting. That’s where the Democrats are leading us. Republicans making a futile effort to out-pander Democrats will not help.

Comment by Geo | 2008-11-06 20:39:33

Same here. I voted for him ONLY because

1) He is not Obama
2) Palin

McCain is NOT a republican. But now that he has lost, and his campaign staffers are spewing dirt on Plain to the media (most of it is fabricated) and McCain says nothing in her defense. Plus McCain staffers are incompetant hacks.

They say that Palin came to the door with a bath rob on. Big Deal. Meanwhile Cindy McCain has several pictures posted on the Internet of her in a Bath rob in Mixed Company. In fact Megan McCain posted them. But appraently the staffers are not bothered by THIS. Only if it was Palin that did that.

I am calling the RNC to tell them

“take me the f*ck off your list, I am registerig independent

Both parties FEAR, she is a reformer who wants to take out the trash in Both Parties.

She puts COUNTRY FIRST. I wish Hillary had done that. There would have been more PUMAS.

Where is McCain’s “Honor” in staying silent. If he doesn’t speak out soon, I will loose all respect for him. I am so angry that they are dumping on Sarah and he is staying silent.

They say that Palin came to the door with a bath rob on.

What was she suppose to come to the door in? Her birthday suit! That would have really shocked them. What kind of people did McCain have on his staff?

They also said she didn’t appear to have knowledge about how a city, county or state is run. I almost came off the couch on that one. She was a mayor and now a governor and they made a stupid remark like that?

Temper tantrums after reading the morning press releases? Duh! If it had been me in her shoes, I would have had screaming hissy fits reading the vicious press releases that were being written.

Comment by RebelCarol | 2008-11-06 22:27:39

I ran out of space in my above post. So to continue my rant:

Plus McCain staffers are incompetant hacks.

I have a suspicion that they were deliberately undermining his campaign so that he would lose. Just like Hillary’s staff. I think the fix was in to get Obama elected by everyone including those who worked for the opposition candidate.

Okay, I’m through ranting (for now).

many of them believe that in order for Armageddon to happen, the anti-christ must take power for 7 years. the anti-christ would then lead a coalition of nations against Israel, and that’s when Armageddon will happen. so they believe.

I don’t think Obama’s the Anti-christ….he’s way too much of a dunce to be the devil! LOL!

It will be little surprise if Obama’s bus goes nowhere since it has now high centered on all of the bodies beneath it.
Actually, we should stop talking in terms like “under the bus”, and adopt “mass graves” for the location of Obama’s past and future victims.

Cleveland wants to recover $55,000 tab

Bruce Springsteen and Sen. Barack Obama many have rocked downtown for free on Sunday, but the concert and political rally cost Cleveland nearly $55,000.

The city hopes to recover the cash from the Obama campaign. The Democratic nominee delivered one of his final speeches of the presidential race after Springsteen’s acoustic performance.

The rally was held on Malls B and C and spilled over into Mall A. The event drew nearly 80,000 people downtown - just as 70,000 people flowed onto the streets from the Browns game.

The majority of the bill, $42,630, was for salaries and benefits for 82 police officers, more than half of whom were on overtime.

Cleveland billed Obama an additional $10,227 for the use of the Convention Center and $1,430 for paramedic services, said Andrea Taylor, spokeswoman for Mayor Frank Jackson.

hahahahahahahah the. check. is. in. the. mail. Yeah. You have a dream …. sucka.

So - on top of this great point - were 70,000 of Obama’s 80,000 people there by chance of letting out of a game????
Well LMAO.

But, but, but, this was a free concert and rally. What do you mean I gotta pay.

But, um, but, ahhh, those 82 police officers came to see ME and hear ME speak so eloquently to them, so that $42,630 is their contribution to my campaign.

Just on CBS news (radio): Obama has named Axelrod as “Senior Advisor.”

Along with Rahm Emanuel, we can expect the sales of and need for Syrup of Epicac to decline markedly here in the Gem of the Ocean.

Axelrod as senior adviser ?? its getting better by the minute Chicago comes to Washington lol

That’s right. Wonder if Obama is working on replacing Fitzgerald yet.

Comment by Chicago | 2008-11-07 03:16:57

Fitzgerald is on the short list for US Attorney General. Heard it on Chicago Talk Radio WLS 890 yesterday morning.

local talk radio host Don Wade and Roma are intrigued…since Fitzgerald has been a thorn on the side of Chicago pols like Daley, Blagojevich, and Rezko. Blagojevich is in jeopardy and if Fitzgerald gets promoted to US Attorney General, the focus on corruption investigations in Chicago will be swept under the rug.

watch for Fitzgerald to be named US Attorney General and then replaced after a year or two.

The O’s gotta take care of his own right?

I looked him in the eye and said…..What the hell are you talking about fool? Do you actually believe he will EVER be indicted now? The Media did what it’s job and silenced ALL opposition to him.” I felt bad bursting his bubble.

Oh well…he will get a some head in the Oval office by some “Male” intern and the Republicans can make some hay out of it. Dreaming I guess….LOL maybe

Comment by Liberty Belle not for Obama | 2008-11-06 22:12:49

The only time Barry got the best response, was when he stopped talking about his policy and talked general old Democratic policies of the Clinton/Gore era or repeating Hillary’s policies about Green Jobs and the infrastructure and “eequell pay for women”. Sorry, I couldn’t type Equal pay when it’s assoc. with the Oshit.

I had wondered all along, “Why aren’t they paying with checks, like everyone else pays their workers?”. And now the possible answer: That wouldn’t be fair, that wouldn’t be inclusive, “because many in his canvasser demographic might not have bank accounts and aren’t used to the idea of a paycheck and how to turn it into spendable $$.”

(I personally know several chronically-unemployed. When they occasionally need to cash paychecks, they sign them over to their parents, to cash at the parents’ bank. Requiring someone to have check-cashing access would be discriminatory, just like requiring people to have incomes to qualify for mortgages is discriminatory. ;-)

They can move to Massachusetts and not only get married but soon (at least for a while) possession of marijuana has been decriminalized. I think in Massachusetts the legislature will continue to block attempts to let a constitutional amendment move forward. The longer this continues, the less likely it is the law will ever change. Its possible the legislature might reverse the marijuana law that was voted in by the citizens.

It occurred to me that this was evidence of sadism but then I rationalized, hey, this guy just help sell this Country out -even the Yankees had to inflict a little pain on the way to correcting injustice. As for the other numerous gay co-workers, well they haven’t realized. Six minutes after inauguration, that giant sucking sound you’ll hear will be millions of Obots crying for their expected handouts. Wah wah wah.

“They gave us $10 an hour. So we added it. I added up all the hours so it was supposed to be at least $120. All I get is $90,” said Charles Martin.

Dude, welcome to Obama’s new tax code. Oh, you thought you would be getting a tax BREAK? Sorry doofus, we gotta spread the wealth.

Comment by hadenough | 2008-11-06 20:38:05

The first concrete thing obama did, pick joe biden, was a kick in the teeth to the “well educated” “creative” class. There were all kinds of reasons for every kick in the teeth obama gave to his followers up until biden. obama voted for FISA because it’s more complicated than you know… obama broke his promise to take public financing because his $600 million campaign was fueled by grassroots donors donating a dollar or two. Yeah, right. Not a word, not a noise from the oborg. They always had ready excuses for obama.

Barry “out with the old and in with the new” obama picked joe “Senator Credit Card” biden. That’s concrete. That’s who obama wanted. Obama wanted biden. The guy who has been around Washington so long his first trip there was on the back of a dinosaur. That would be the same biden that voted for the Iraq war resolution. Obama picked that guy as VP and the liberal-whacko-sphere didn’t blink.

Now his first concrete act as pres-elect is to pick Emmanuel as his chief of staff! Holy crap! Less than a year ago the giant orange stupid put Emmanuel on the top of their hit list. Oh yeah. The kossacks were gonna run Emmanuel out of the house. Fire dog stupid had even more froth on their mouths than usual any time Emmanuel was mentioned for any reason. Now the most hated Emmanuel is gonna be obama’s watch dog. The most hated Emmanuel will be right there in the middle of it with the most hated biden in the middle of obama admin. AND NOT A WORD FROM THOSE FUCKING SHAMELESS OBAMAWHORES. Just fucking amazing.

Comment by lark | 2008-11-06 20:57:48

You make good points. I was just thinking about that. Why would Otrama appoint Emanuel when he has a solid majority in the House and a good number in the Senate? Makes no sense, or does it? It says exactly what I am predicting. When the Dems don’t give him what he wants, exactly what he wants, he’ll unleash this one on them and hell will break loose. And I think he knows he pissed off everyone there and they will be doing what they want.

What I find funny is that Otrama picked biden not knowing biden’s affinity to clarify and mend fences. Which means that once Emanuel goes ballistic, Biden will be coming out yapping some conciliatory gaffe and Comedy Central will have to add one hour extra every night to report over the hate fights. I predict Biden will die of a heart attack before 2010.

Thanks for another informed, insightful, passionate post, Rev. Amy. The first time I clicked the JSND Coaltion blog and scrolled down the names, “rabble rouser…” caught my eye. Massive, relentless misogyny unprecedented in my whole lifetime in America, massive, relentless, extensively planned caucus fraud, DNC fraud, voter fraud, massive, relentless media misogyny and bias surely woke me up about American politics this year, and gave us our third stolen election this century. The moral decay in the USA is frightening.

This is deeper than anger. May the deeper feeling move us to create primary/caucus election reform, general election reform, campaign finance reform ASAP. May the women of America grow some guts and vote for the qualified woman over the unqualified man next time.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-11-06 21:05:37

Thank you.

One can only hope, and pray, that at some point in time, women will believe in themselves enough to support one of our own, especially when she is more qualified than the man she is facing.

And yes - massive anger at the misogyny, the homophobia, and the theft of yet another coup in this country, as well as the betrayal by a party we thought was better than that…

Comment by Hillary or Bust | 2008-11-06 20:42:56

The misinformation and denial among some here in CA is telling:

A PUMA friend of mine is a lesbian and put Palin 2012 on her Facebook. A bunch of her lesbian friends all responded in misogynistic outrage, going on about Palin being stupid and how she was anti-gay.

Prop 8 came up - and one of these “smart” ladies actually tried to defend Obama, saying that she had “proof” that he was opposed to Prop 8 because some person from the No on Prop 8 team said so. (She was going to produce a statement NOT from Obama, but from this Prop 8 Rep.)

My friend and I both had to explain to this deluded woman that Obama and Biden were against gay marriage, Biden had said so in the debates.

Oh, and this same woman was frothing at the mouth over Palin being a religious nutjob, since she hates Christians, but seemed to forget that Obama himself said he was opposed to gay marriage based on HIS Christian faith.

These are people who are so used to being Democrats they’ll actually go into extreme denial over the truth of Obama.

Comment by Geo | 2008-11-06 20:54:19

It is generational. The DNC, MSM, and the public schools have done a marvelous job at indoctrination.

Obama and Biden both said on national televison that they were against SAME SEX MARRIAGE.

Comment by Geo | 2008-11-06 20:58:00

Plus according to Hillary everything is a VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY.

Well Hillary, the Extreme LEFT denied you the presidency. And that hit you with sexist attacks.

I have never met a republican who thought that Hillary should not be president just because she is a woman. They objected to her policies. That is fair. In hindsight she is better than Obama. She is only a socialist, not a raving Marxist like Obama.

And it seem Hillary actual Like the USA. Obama does not.

Why did we bother to vote? It meant nothing. I will always believe McCain would have won without all the fraud.

But you know, we were up against the impossible…a divided Repub base, massive voter fraud, the almost impossible to overcome GWB legacy and almost a BILLION dollars of campaign money, plus the full weight of the Chicago political machine AND liberal white guilt over slavery. RRRA, a tad off topic, but I thought you would be interested to know about a possible future misogynistic appointment of Obama’s. As I cannot link to it here, I will instead paste an article from The New Agenda’s website:

Summers is Over: The Washington Post reports on The New Agenda’s anti-Summers position
November 6, 2008
by Dawn C

Can Obama really be considering a known misogynist for Treasury Secretary?
The MSM is widely reporting that President-Elect Obama is considering Larry Summer for the position of Treasury Secretary.
The New Agenda wrote about Summers and his record on sexism and misogyny last month. We issued a press release yesterday, and this morning, the Washington Post published an article detailing our objections to Obama’s potential appointment of Summers:
Women’s Group Not Hot on Summers, by Garance Franke-Ruta
“Larry Summers has a clear and unequivocal record of sexism and misogyny,” said the group’s co-founder Amy Siskind in a statement. “Summers’ work history demonstrates a clear inability to work well with others, especially women.”

Another founding member of the group, The New Agenda, which has taken pro-Sarah Palin stands in the past and advocated against media sexism during the primary, is Dr. Nancy Hopkins of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hopkins famously clashed with Summers at a January 2005 MIT forum on women in the sciences after Summers, who was then president of Harvard University, said that the paucity of women in the hard sciences might be a reflection of their “intrinsic aptitude.”
During Summers’ term as President of Harvard, the appointment of women to tenured positions declined every year. Summers demonstrable lack of respect for women should make half the population feel nervous about the prospect of him as Treasury Secretary in an economy that will certainly be disproportionately hard on women.
The New Agenda is also seeking to tie Summers to the current financial crisis, arguing that during his tenure at Treasury he failed to heed the warnings of former chairwoman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Brooksley E. Born, who sought to warn Summers, Robert Rubin and Alan Greenspan in 1998 of the risks of unregulated derivatives.

The Post, in an October piece looking at the origins of the financial crisis, highlighted Summers’s push-back against Born’s attempts, reporting, “A decade ago, long before the financial calamity now sweeping the world, the federal government’s economic brain trust heard a clarion warning and declared in unison: You’re wrong.”

“Why would Summers have listened to her? She’s a woman,” wrote Siskind on her blog in mid-October.
If Summers didn’t listen to women before, why would we believe he’d listen to women now? In this economic winter we’re facing, Larry Summers can stay behind, where he belongs.

The fact that so many people sold their souls and their RACE to a white-hater, an American hater, a deceiver, a fraud, a liar, a thief who SO willingly and UPFRONT saw to it that voter fraud and illegal campaign money was carried out is unbelievable. The fact that he approves of partial-birth abortion and that he is probably NOT a Christian doesn’t, apparently, matter to MOST Americans. All they care about is the almighty dollar. And what do they say about money? That money is the root to all evil…

Bottom line is, Obama and his racist, snarky, bitter, hateful, ungrateful, America hating wife are in the White House. They got what THEY want; all we can hope for now is that their supporters DON’T get what THEY want. But, I guess, by saying that we ALL lose.

The “free mortgages and gasoline” OBOTS were silent during NObama’s victory speech when he said”
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term.”
“This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were.”
It can’t happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice.”
SACRIFICE?? WTF? What does this all really mean? Is this AA code for a take-over of whites in his second term? I mean THAT IS his plan and now he’s saying it.
Had McCain won 1% more in Indiana, 2% more in Florida and 1% more in Ohio, he’d be president now. Obama’s allies signed up at least 200,000 fraudulent voters in Ohio alone — much more than the gap.
Not quite the “landslide” the Marxists were hoping for.
McCain lost NC by only 13,993 votes and MO by 5,859 votes. The popular vote was close. See map at http://www.c-span.com

Comment by Marty | 2008-11-06 21:22:11

The thing I have felt about this election is that many voted based not on Ideology nor on the dream of M.L.K but to say they were part of history that they were part of some thing. The sad part that is forgotten because of the focused on skin color is no matter who voted or how they were a part of history for the simple fact that who ever won made extreme history in America. I do have a problem in that many and I do mean many voted based on skin color and not beliefs or ideology and that fly’s in the face of M.L.K and his dream. His dream was for America to be blind to a mans skin color and judge him by his character alone but this most would agree was not done. Sure some will say they did just that but if they look down deep into them self can and will they say that still? I have never carried what a person looked like but what he has done or not done and that is only one of the characters I use to judge my vote on. Another thing that upsets me some is the hoopla over an African-American winning. First off not all Blacks are African descent at all so lumping all in to one group is again racist to me. Also instead of saying a minority and using the terms that are used they leave out all the other groups that also have been oppressed in this nation at one time or the other and that dose include some groups of white immigrants over the ages. Yes most slaves were oppressed longer but they never were the only ones .I also ask what about woman how long do they still have to be oppressed? the were held back and still are in many ways and in fact even in this election they were by Obama who paid some woman less then men in the same jobs that again is discrimination. to me it seams that there is one group that believe there the only ones that have had the nation discriminate against them and that they are the only one who still deal with that suffering but this is not true many still do and in fact many like the native Americans are much worse off still then most in this country and still have been forgotten by being placed on reservations with almost no work and out of the way of any real economic help of any real meaning because of were they have to live to receive there benefits based on there heritage talk about discrimination they move they lose and that’s that . So I ask do we have a real minority President that stands for all peoples of all races and groups or one that manly supports the agenda of one group over the rest? Do we have one now? If we do how come this is not shown in the actions and words of the ones that support him? Do they stand for all people as M.L.K. did or only for people of there skin color? Are we all not more then a skin color? There are dumb people and no one group has a lock on that. It takes the majority to rise above the din, to be noticed so they do not just blend into the noise, because the greatest thing we could achieve is to advance M.L.K. and his dream for all peoples as he so stated so well at the end of his speech! Like him or not did your vote really go for the character of the man as M.L.K. dreamed of for all peoples or did it go for skin color or to be just a part of history?
What will we get from Obama we can only wonder as there is no real history of Obama. No matter how you justify it there just is none as in records and proof such as collage records, grades, legislation he authored not co authored but authored. No real time in state office let alone the senate so few if any record to show his real beliefs and mind set over time all we have is a guess So we will have to wait and see who Obama is and how he will be . Tell then many stand ready to work with him or hold his feet to the fire to help him make the right chouses for the country and not special interest groups as those days are over as from now on his office is for all peoples not any one group.

I’m in FL, voted against the “marriage/man/woman” bill. So did my husband and Mom.

I told people it inhibits rights of domestic partners — straight or gay — didn’t phase them.

The truth must be told:

A lot of Democrats are homophobes which dovetails very nicely with their sexist ways.

We need a third party. Seriously.

Thanks, Susan, and you are right, sadly…

Thanks, Benny, too - I appreciate it!

We have a lot of work to do, friends…

Funny, lots of conservatives are pro gay marriage. It’s about civil rights. Our world has turned upside down.

I am sorry but has anoyne realized the coincidence. obama gets donations around 35 million every month. In the last months when he was supposed to be on public funding (prior to his broken promise) he gets over $250 million dollars in donations. In 2 1/2 months he almost quadruples his donations. These donations happen right after he nominates Biden the senator from Delaware, coincidentally home of the credit card company’s. Soon after people begin to notice his credit card verification system does not verify anything. Credit card companies charge a fee for the removal of this service because it puts them at a higher risk of fraudulent purchases. Now we come full circle when today I read that people in Indiana were getting paid with prepaid visa credit cards. How much would you like to bet that the Visa credit card prepaid cards are from the same financial source that was running Obama’s internet donation system. Think real hard as to what Obama did to buy his house. Does all this sound way too familiar?

I’m so sorry to hear that. Can you share what you do and what you’re looking for?

Way too scary. Wow. Great observation.

Ahhh, made my comment about that above, before seeing yours.

I hadn’t added the Biden piece though. Very good observation!

I thought Hillary was destined to be President. Perhaps she still is. She and Bill have considerable influence. They are truly moderates at heart. They, together, need to start a REAL third party. A Centrist Party. She then could run in 2012.

Although she campaigned hard (too hard) for O-NO!, she most likely will not be rewarded in kind. O-NO! can’t have that!

The ACLU filed a challenge, already, I have heard, in CA.

And I agree with you, it was quite clear from the primaries Obama had no intention of taking a stand on this issue, he DID NOT provide leadership, here, whatsoever. And to encourage hate, even tacitly, is to be ah, antiAmerican.

But, you know, and this is purely ancedotal, I think where I live the air is FAR more tolerant, and every generation seems more aghast at gay discrimination, much like we see the prejudice against African Americans and skin color, they are left astounded someone would be excluded due to their sexuality…

Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight.

People who hate create more chaos for themselves, they’re always the last to know, if they ever do, why they never really win.

Discrimination is wrong.

Maybe the military can take up the cause…

It could happen.

When is the ACLU going to get around to defending Joe the Plumber’s privacy rights violated by a fascist Ohio Obamabot?

Oops that last question was for Arabella Trefoil but it didn’t post under her comment about not having found a job. Sorry.

I’d like to know how they will swear him in on Jan. 20th. He can’t possibly hold the Bible in reverence equally with the Koran (and he clearly prefers the latter). So, if he swears on the Bible, would he still believe that the oath shouldn’t be broken?
What am I saying…he breaks all of his promises.

Comment by Chicago | 2008-11-07 04:30:58

it will show “Holy Bible” on the cover but a Koran inside. LOL!

RRR Amy, EXCELLENT POST.

We’re hearing ad nauseum now that anything is possible for any American. Oh, wait, except for women and gays.

Come on, NQ, collaborate on a book about this fiasco. Just sayin’.

This story reminds me of the old Temptations song “Smiling Faces”.

Obots, this one is for you. from WNQR - The “Q”; Radio 1112 (Nov. 2012)…

Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
The truth is in the eyes
Cause the eyes don’t lie, amen

Remember a smile is just
A frown turned upside down
My friend let me tell you
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof

Beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
I’m telling you beware
Beware of the pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Jealousy (jealousy)
Misery (misery)
Envy I tell you, you can’t see behind smiling faces
Smiling faces sometimes they don’t tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)

I’m telling you beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
Listen to me now, beware
Beware of that pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don’t tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Your enemy won’t do you no harm
Cause you’ll know where he’s coming from
Don’t let the handshake and the smile fool ya
Take my advice I’m only try’ to school ya

Great idea, New Party - and thank you!

(Sorry for the frequent posts, but I did want to thank you all again for your comments. Please know I appreciate how difficult, and painful, this all is, believe me…We’ll make it through this, together, and hopefully, get some justice along the way…)

I just want to let you all know in case you missed it that NObama did robocalls in CA against gay marriage in his own voice even though he publicly came out for it.
