CLONES AND CLICHES

You might think the title refers to Obamabots, who have become such a dreadful cliche on the landscape. Close, but not quite. It is indeed aimed at the clones in society, but it is not specifically directed at the Obama clones. It is also an anti-rap rap.

When my son first saw this video he commented that I was the world’s worst, or at least the most ridiculous rapper. But at least he found it highly amusing. And he was quite proud after a New York rapper saw the video on Youtube and asked permission to turn it into a different kind of rap song, ultimately producing something my son thought was “brilliant”. (Of course I prefer my own version, but then I might be a little prejudiced. Also, it would be a little ridiculous of me to prefer a version that belongs to the kind of rap I was attacking in my my anti-rap rap. But at least the New York rapper agreed with me that too much rap reflected aggressive posturing and deameaning attitudes towards women and relationships.)

And you wouldn’t believe which states!

In Ohio, which has had aggressive GOTV campaigns in the past two presidential cycles, the number of voters appeared to decline from 5,722,443 in 2004 to 5,595,966 in 2008, according to the final but unofficial tally by the Ohio secretary of state. Turnout in those years dropped from 72 percent to 67 percent.

THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! THIS DEFIES ALL LOGIC.

Total Rig Job.

And where did they dump the rest of them?

Comment by bert | 2008-11-09 10:11:28

Not really. Half or more of Obama’s campaign strategy, speeches, and activities were purposefully designed to DEPRESS voter turnout. And it worked.

Comment by Winston | 2008-11-09 10:23:30

In OHIO? How could the turnout be depressed in Ohio. The Polls were tight, Joe The Plumber fever was in the air. It was National News. Every resident in OH knew the importance of getting to the polls. Palin was rocking the house in OH. They were all over that state.

Makes no sense. 5% drop in turn out?

Obama was trying to INCREASE turn out for Dems. Why would he want to depress that?

purposefully designed to DEPRESS voter turnout.

Why have a springsteen concert? To depress turn out? What a strange reply.

Comment by Wisewoman | 2008-11-09 12:32:18

Winston. Surely you did not ask that question about depressing voter turnout. Listen up. Many tactics are used to depress voter turnout. One major one is to set the stage that your guy is so far ahead and will win so the other side may as well stay at home. Depressing turnout does not refer to depressing Obama’s supporters it refers to depressing the voters on the other side to stay at home and not vote. What’s wrong with people that they don’t have the slightest clue or understanding of political issues then feel compelled to make a false case instead of just asking intelligent questions to get intelligent answers.

I see Camelot again…don’t you??

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Not at all. Not in the least. JFK had intelligence, wit, and class. Obama has none of thse.

Comment by lark | 2008-11-09 10:33:14

What if the first real Camelot instead of an imaginary one. Imagery seeking productivity.

Comment by lark | 2008-11-09 10:40:56

The criticism of hip hop rap like this one from OldGrupyGuy is that it is completely unproductive. A complete waste not of time but of productive energy.

So the Obama Camelot imagery will sound exactly like OldGrumpyGuy’s Clones and Cliches - promoting productivity by advancing anti-productivity.

Most folks that wax poetic about Camelot have never read the myth cycles…chuckle…Gwen was burned at the stake and would have died but for Lance…sheeesh!

Timely and funny Grump…Thanks!
This is an excellent social commentary and I am sending a link to my daughter…chuckle…This is why I gave up on the expensive gallery system and the expensive process of applying for teaching jobs as I have never done FASHIONABLE ART…As an Artist I find no break whatsoever in the Post Modernist stranglehold of ID politics and mediocrities that insist on defining what passes as ART…(sigh)
anime…is so much easier..and vacuous…

Comment by Old Grumpy Guy | 2008-11-09 11:31:44

I couldn’t agree with you more working-class artist. For the past half century or more, the art world has been in the grip of the Emperor’s Clothing Syndrome. Which gives me the idea for another vid.

Comment by Brodie | 2008-11-09 12:06:47

Oh, I so agree! I have never done fashionable art, either. I do art because I must. It is a part of me, not a fashion statement. I’ve always hated that elitist attitude. I just carry on, doing what I do and try to ignore the BS.

Great anti Rap video. Thanks for the smiles.

It also points to a significant issue in this election.

I say this with love and sympathy. It’s not their fault. We failed them. We wanted their lives easier than our own. Unfortunately, its pretty hard to sort out who you are and what you want in life, if you’ve never learned to trust your own judgement and abilities. By the time you’re in your teens and twenties the fear of failure and ridicule becomes overwelming and self defeating.

So with the best of intensions, we’ve wound up creating multiple generations of mentally and phsyically lazy, self centered, dependents - not only are they still living at home and relying on mom and dad to maintain their standard of living. But without ever having to learn how to face and meet challenges and learn from failure, they lack the self confidence for independent thought, action or emotion.

Hence the rap sheep.

WaPo admits duping the public by slanting coverage for Oblahma.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/07/AR2008110702895.html

A year after the war began, WaPo admitted duping the public by not questioning and scrutinizing Bush’s pre-war claims.

I suppose they’re a step above Pravda since Pravda doesn’t admit duping the public.

Excellent OGG. Kinda’ like my observations living in Cincinnati. The driving experience is so telling. You’ll have someone agressively tailgate or pass you, because they want to be noticed and be up in front. But, when they do, they fall behind to stay next to the other car. They never seemed to drive along their merry way, they always hug another car and drive in a pack. It was quite illuminating.
