Voter Fraud? * Open Thread

marge-g.jpgAh, gee. Not in Minnesota too. Ah gee. I gotta ask these fellas, these election fellas, ya know.

Okay! But are ya sure? ‘Cause I mean, how do you know? Do you do a count, or what kind of a routine do you have here?

From the big paper, that Star-Tribune paper in Minneapolis:

Coleman camp to deploy lawyers, observers for recount

Sen. Norm Coleman’s campaign is concerned that an effort by Al Franken’s campaign to have 461 rejected absentee ballots counted might be an indication of further “shenanigans,” a Coleman lawyer said today.

The Coleman campaign has received dozens of calls from supporters reporting other “disturbing” incidents, campaign attorney Fritz Knaak said at a news conference. …

Pretty soon, this could get kinda ugly here, ya know. Like this, ya might’ve heard about this case here in, what was it, 1996?

And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There’s more to life than a little money, you know. Don’tcha know that? And here ya are, and it’s a beautiful day. Well. I just don’t understand it.

Nope, I just don’t understand it.

You know, this is my idea of the sweet innocence of Minnesotans:

Little did I know that YouTubers were using scenes like this to make fun of Sarah Palin, until I just went looking for videos from the movie, Fargo.

Here’s the intro text for this video:
“Sarah Palin meets Fargo. Hilarious. Best video yet.”

Are you kidding me? This is the “best” you can do? This isn’t even funny. And I don’t mind making fun of Sarah Palin, as long as it’s not cruel, but this isn’t even remotely entertaining:

Let’s just stick to the original scenes in the movie, shall we? I love this movie. I’ll watch it any time it’s on because it always cracks me up. The acting, the writing, and the directing are brilliant:

is it any wonder that the film Fargo ranks #114 in the top 250 movies of all time at IMDb.com?

It’s not right that the Democratic election officials in Minnesota are as stupid and bungling as Jerry Lundegaard, the character portrayed so well by William H. Macy.

Norm Coleman is NO prize. But, honest to god, Al Franken as a U.S. Senator? Good lord almighty. Let’s hope that the judges in Minnesota put a stop to the nonsense going on there.

I think there is a lot of Marge in Tina Fey’s Sarah accent although she claims it was based on a lady in Illinois. Marge was the smartest character in the movie so it is ironic that her accent is used to convey stupidity.

Dr. Doom Forecasts Depression

(These are his Cable TV appearances going back years)

By Janet Whitman

Peter D. Schiff, an extreme bear who correctly foresaw the U.S. stock-market slide, the home mortgage meltdown and the credit crunch, still sees plenty of doom and gloom ahead. As president of Euro-Pacific Capital, a Connecticut-based brokerage, the 43-year old financial advisor has long been urging his clients to get their money out of U.S. stock and bond markets and look for safer investments outside of America or put their nest eggs into silver and gold.

Mr. Schiff, a frequent pundit on U.S. business channels whose gloomy views have earned him the nickname “Dr. Doom,” sees no need to alter that strategy. He expects a lot more downside, despite the already precipitous drop in U.S. stocks, which has seen the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumble 40% from its October 2007 record of 14,164 to 8,379 points as of Friday’s close.

Far from fixing the problem, the US$700-billion Wall Street bailout and other government interventions are only going to prolong the pain, predicts Mr. Schiff, who was economic advisor for libertarian Ron Paul’s 2008 presidential campaign.

The economy, he says, appears headed for its first depression since the Dirty Thirties. Mr. Schiff spoke with the Financial Post’s Janet Whitman.

FP: How did the U.S. get into this mess?

Peter Schiff: It was the result of reckless monetary policies. Of course, the rest of the world is not blameless. They’re the ones who loaned us all the money that we spent. We couldn’t have dug ourselves into this gigantic hole without them. We’ve printed and spent and borrowed our way into a financial disaster. What we are witnessing is the consequences of the excesses of our economy, especially over the past eight years since the bursting of the tech bubble. We basically ended up with false economic growth. Ultimately, if an economy lives by credit, it dies by credit. When we can’t borrow any more, it implodes. A lot of companies were built around this phony economy. Americans are now too broke to buy those products. We never could afford to pay for them. We were paying for them with debt.

FP: Are government bailouts helping?

PS: Everything that the government is doing right now is designed to prevent the market from administering its tough medicine. All of the bailouts are a bad idea. The government is trying to put more cash out there so Americans can keep spending. We don’t need more loans for consumers. We need less. Consumers should not be borrowing. They should be doing the opposite. We’re trying to encourage more of the behavior that’s behind the problem.

FP: What is the solution then?

PS: What we need is real change. We need to rein in the government and let lose the free market, unfettered by government. It was government intervention that created this crisis in the first place. The Federal Reserve brought interest rates down and provided all this cheap money for everyone to speculate with. A lot of Americans refinanced and took out much bigger mortgages in the last few years. The idea was, You don’t want to leave all of that equity in your house. You’re rich now, you live in half million-dollar house. You need a media room and a Mercedes. You can’t be driving that Ford. Everybody was spending all that money like they were entitled to it. Now all the debt is still there and we can’t pay it back. We can’t fix the problem. We can’t stop housing prices from falling because they are too high. Most people still think that the government can fix it and put it back together the way it was. But we need housing prices to fall to a point where Americans can afford them – where you can put 20% down and have a mortgage payment that’s only 25% of your income. I think real estate in America is going to be the cheapest it’s ever been in real terms. Pendulums don’t stop in the center. They swing in the other direction and over shift.

FP: How bad is the economic downturn going to get?

PS: As of right now, we are headed for a depression, meaning a protracted period of economic contraction with elevated levels of bankruptcies and unemployment. It’s not going to be a recession the way we’ve come to know them. Whatever we call it, we’re still going to be in it at the end of [U.S. presidential contender Barack] Obama’s term. He’s going to be known as a depression-era president. Unfortunately, [things he's proposing to do] could make it worse and drag it out. The economy will be the issue when he goes for reelection…We have to restructure the economy in a different way. That’s going to involve a lot of pain. We haven’t seen the full extent of the doom and gloom in real economy. It’s showing up on Wall Street first because they funded all of the extravagance…But the bigger picture is the party is over. We’re going to have to get used to a different lifestyle. We’re going to have to start saving money again.

FP: When might the U.S. stock market bottom out?

PS: The U.S. stock market is still fairly expensive, especially if you factor in what future earnings are going to be. I think [the Dow] still has a long way to go down. Is it 7,500, 6,000, 5,000? I don’t know, but I don’t think we’re there yet. Adjusted for inflation, I think in five years the Dow is going to be below where it is today.

Comment by John Smith | 2008-11-11 19:18:39

Oh this could turn out to be a lot worse then the depression was. During the depression we did not depend on China to make everything that we use. Try going into Target or any other store and find something that is not made in China. It will take you quite some time.

ROFLMAO

We tried to tell people about it back in the Primary. The Dems have figured out that no one’s vote matters anymore. I’m only pissed that I was in line at 6:30 am on November 4 to vote for McCain. I should have slept in. Sigh.

And, yes, I am saying the Dems. I don’t believe the stuff about Bush stealing TWO elections and, quite frankly, I thank God be was there and not Gore for 9/11. But I don’t think the GOP ever would even THINK to pull the stunts Obama, the DNC and ACORN have pulled this election. To me this is an abomination and complete violation of America and the Constitution.

And the really great news?

Comment by Mike | 2008-11-11 20:36:27

Not just the clothes, but today I read an article (Atlantic Monthly blog?) in response to Matt Lauer’s interview with Gov. Palin today where the writer asked for proof (release her medical records they said) that Trig is Palin’s son! The election is over and they still want to see her medical records?! So the MSM is still interested in the littlest amount of tabloid fodder, but they aren’t demanding to see BO’s birth certificate as proof he meets the natural born requirements of POTUS. Incredible!

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2008-11-11 20:47:19

LOL relative morality strikes again. let me tell you something you little snake. When you run around screwing with peoples vote you are spitting on the sacrifice of eveery single person that died to give us that right. So don’t call up 3000 recently dead to cover the magnitude of what you’ve done. In effect you killed the only thing we have left of people like JFK, MLK, every union soldier, those who faught agaist the brittish to free us from King Georges tyranny, you killed something that each and everyone of these people thought was important enough to given their lives for, that applies for bush and it applies for obama. all you had to do was to nominate the right person and you could have won this thing fairly but you didn’t you decided that you wanted to make history, instead of assuring that this country has a future. I will not be haing kids because of this stupidity, i’m 31 andyou and you candidate is goin to flush this country down the toliet, what kind of life would they have? I was born into country that was not always fair but each and ever person, unless they had a mental illness, could rise or fall based on the decision that made. we hdon’t have that anymore, and no child should have to live in the type of enviroment that obama WILL create. We have twow political groups that think they can pick our president better than we can and nobody and nothing give you the right to do that. if you want to live under a government when leaders don’t give a damn about your well being and all the abortions you want for the price one move to china, but dont’ screw with my liberties. what you have done is unforgivable, and a fundemental slap in the face of the founders. And i’m not sure how and i don’t know when, but you will pay for it. what goes around comes around dumbshit and when it does it is so terrible even your enemies will feel bad for you, and that goes for repulblicans as well. You morality maybe relative but our constitution rights are not.

Moderates of both parties, in 2012 if we can still vote we are going to be ready for these fools. we are gong to start now! We are going to be the ones monitoring the polls and monitoring the fraud. Moderate democrats, monitor the primaries, moderate republicans monitor yours. Lawyers bone up on constitutional and voting law, we need to be ready to strike these fools at a moments notice. They cheat they go to jail. They loose their right to vote. I’m sick of this bullshit. We WILL STOP THIS or we will loose our country. this is is the one bridge that that Repubicans and Dems can firm on. even if our candidate does not win, we will never allow them to cheat us again.if there is one left over too loose. I will not let people like this joke of an obama to try and take the high ground while he screws me. My morality is superior to yours or obama, you have nothing you can teach me. But he will get his hands off my civil rights. I’ve had enough of you and your bullshit.

Oh, go beat off to Dubya’s picture. Do you not remember the SEVEN FUCKING MINUTES he sat in that classroom after being told of the first tower? Acting as if NOTHING had happened.
No, “I’m sorry, kids, but I’ve got President stuff to do” or anything. His enablers acted as if there was no way that he could have left before he did without causing those poor kiddies some sort of devastating trauma. Which was pure bullshit.
Have you forgotten the briefing handed to Dubya (during his grand August vacation–so needed after all of 6 months in office) that warned of a possible terrorist attack in September? The one which Dubya apparently didn’t have any interest in reading (if he could, in fact, read anything more challenging than the goat book).
This was the man who used his automatic skyrocketing popularity to shove through dozens of bills through Congress that curtailed civil liberties, simply by invoking the magic phrase “9/11″.
I have no doubt that Obama will make Dubya appear to be a near-genius but I’m absolutely unwilling to accept that Dubya was a better Presidential choice on Sept 11, 2001. (Hell, I’d be willing to accept the idea that Pat Buchanan would have made a better President on that date than Dubya. In fact, I’d have Gore as the best choice, followed by Buchanan and Nader tied for a very close second with Dubya waaaaaaaaaay back in the pack–possibly even behind several of the extreme fringe candidates.

I have no problem with Al Franken as a senator. I’d prefer him to Norm Coleman. The thing is – Al should have been a shoe in Minnesota. You have to ask why Obama didn’t sweep Al in to that Senate seat.

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-11-11 20:22:32

BHO did not help down tickets. At all. Poor AL was drowning so bad here in MN that the big guns had to come out the last 2 weeks. They sent both Hillary and Bill. I couldn’t stomach seeing either one because all of Al’s shit was :Obama+Franken=Change Ish, make me vomit!

Anyway, I voted for Al and it was a hard choice in the last month or so. It all had to do with Obarfy. If I was stcuk with that fraud then I want as few dems as possible with him. Now, Al is not such a bad guy. I used to listen to him on Air America and I like how he thinks politically. He can be an ass at times, but that is how I would be, too, if I were a politician. Plus, so many of these talk show hosts and pundits think they have all the answers and I always think if you have all the answers dickhead then why don’t you run for office. I credit Al in that he did just that. That said, I am now pulling for Coleman because Barrakula has too many dems now and no accountablilty. That is unacceptable to me.

I do not fit either party anymore. It sucks. I don’t know what to do. I hate the news now, but I also want to know WTF is going on so I’m not blindsided by these freaks in power when they go all freakazoid on us!

Gov. Palin’s accent and phrasings–based in the Midwest and seasoned by the Great North–immediately brought Marge the sheriff to my mind. I don’t see the comedy or satire in this, because I consider the comparison to be quite favorable. Marge, a pregnant woman, performs her job—a traditional male role—quite well. She’s tougher than the tough stupid guys, she’s smarter than the slick, supposedly smart guys, and she outguns the really bad guy. She’s grounded and sensible, matter of fact and self-confident. She can spot a lie or a liar, a cheat or a sleaze, from a mile off. She doesn’t back down, and she doesn’t get rattled. She’s a seriously positive role model—just like Gov. Palin.

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2008-11-11 19:28:44

There is no excuse for voter fraud. Voting is one of the most precious rights we have granted under the Constitution. To piss on it means pissing on what many people shed blood for. Including the fights for Blacks and Women to vote. Those are struggles that people might have forgotten, but when people earned those rights they became sacrosanct. Now, no one cares. Nice. That’s a really great way to honor the dead who fought for each and every person in this country to have the right to vote. Ughhh…And every time you bring it up you get one word – “Bush” – as if this never ending cycle of fraud is ACCEPTABLE because one party thinks another party did it so it’s okay. It’s not okay. Not for the GOP or the Dems. It’s NOT OKAY.

WildChild…Then what is this?

Transcript of 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Voting Rights (1870)

Fortieth Congress of the United States of America;

At the third Session, Begun and held at the city of Washington, on Monday, the seventh day of December, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

A Resolution Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Respresentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, (two-thirds of both Houses concurring) that the following article be proposed to the legislature of the several States as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States which, when ratified by three-fourths of said legislatures shall be valid as part of the Constitution, namely:

Article XV.

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude—

Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-11-11 19:46:47

Was is this? I’s the amendment affirming that this right you think it gives you can be denied or abridged…. just not for these stated reasons.

Comment by joey | 2008-11-11 19:56:04

is there anybody who thinks that Norm Coleman is actually going to be declared the winner when this is all said and done? The reasons these scumbags pull this stuff is akin to why dogs lick themselves – because they can!

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2008-11-11 19:57:07

That amendment assured that minorities had the right to vote. And a lot of blood was shed to get there. Sorry if the Constitution is misinterpreted. I just read what you are talking about. Nevertheless it IS a right we have and we are not (yet) a Banana Republic. It’s coming. So I guess voting will be a thing of the past.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-11-11 20:10:12

that amendment assures that you couldn’t be denied a ballot because you were black. But it doesn’t say you can’t be denied a ballot. As matter of fact is says you can be denied that ballot. You just can’t be denied a ballot for the reasons stated in the amendment. When we pass an amendment that states we have a right to vote and says that right can’t be denied, then we have a right to vote. But in 200+ years we have yet to give all of us a right that you’d think all of us should have if we really fancy ourselves to have a government of, for, and by the people .

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2008-11-11 20:14:01

Fine. Then the Constitution protects the voting rights of blacks.

Comment by WildChild | 2008-11-11 20:24:01

That was the intent. But we crafty Americans found other ways to achieve the same end. Making voting a right would bring equal protection into play and necessitate a national set of standards to assure one man one vote. Unfortunately that would step all over the states enumerated power of setting up their own elections through their legislatures. While it might make sense to have an amendment giving us the right to vote, short of a constitutional convention, I don’t see states giving up any of their constitutional powers anytime soon.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-11-12 00:16:19

I don’t see states giving up any of their constitutional powers anytime soon.

States allowed two political parties who have no Constitutional standing to interfere with their power to set elections in 2008 with nary a complaint. States had the duty of nominating candidates for president before the cumbersome and convoluted two parties took over the nominating process.

And if we have no right to vote, parties have no right to participate in the election by holding conventions, at voters’ expense, where they vote for a nominee either. Eliminate the political parties and citizen participation (even though we are the appointed guardians of our democracy) and just let the states nominate who they want.

I thought Franken would add a delightful humorous touch to the Senate. I’m for him—he and his staff (Kennedy School students) did a lot of great investigating during the early Bush/Cheney years and brought out a lot of corruption and called out Fox/Bush news and their lies. I think he’d make a fairly honest Senator. I’m just not for voter fraud in any way—Dem or Repub.

The Dems were rightfully suspect of the 2000 and 2004 election results, ala Florida and then Ohio. But it’s like the Dems., becoming more than hypocritical, have given a free pass to voter fraud as long as it is for them. How sad for our Democracy.

We should go back to straight paper ballots and so what if we don’t know the outcome of elections for several days—at least we’d know all the ballots were counted, if we could make sure those who were doing the counting were honest!!!

I’m for that idea. Just not made of paper. Something more easily re-used and what about experimenting with on line voting for things like propositions?

you can read a computer’s IP well enough these days and just register people to their computers with a password and vote on what ever proposition that comes about

if it turns out to be better than ballots? do it and for people with OUT computers that want to vote – let them use library computers to vote! dur. Come to the library like some of us do already to push paper through a “specific brand” voting machine (easily hackable) – ONE main server, guarded and manned to tabulate the outcome in each city or county or state.

anyway

It’s a myth that this country is a democracy or was intended to be one. James Madison on what form of government we have and why…

Ok I just had a glass of cheap wine and that just came out. But what I am saying here is that the women in Fargo they are using to make fun of Sarah in the end got the bad guys. SO what do you think that means. The good guy will win here.

Means don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

Seems like voter fraud is something that’s condoned by the MSM, because they don’t seem to have the slightest bit of curiosity to report on this at all. Maybe because to bring it up would put the election results of Nov 4 into question and their guy Barkie may not be the rightful winner.

If states don’t implement stricter measures to ensure integrity of votes cast by 2012, I think the only way the republican nominee for 2012 can compete on a level playing field is to use “Acorn” types of groups as well. And this goes for fraudulent small dollar campaign donations as well. Nobody is looking into the BO campaign regarding this. What good are regulations if nobody enforces them and there are no penalties?

McCain is on Jay Leno tonight. Wonder if he’ll mention Gov. Palin at all. Greta said Palin received a call on her Blackberry while talking to her on Sunday.

Now that Obama is a fact, I would love to see this blog work toward eliminating caucuses in the primaries. Too many people were mowed over as Sorro’s pet was ramroded through.

Standard…they are trying in Texas already, which had over 2000 complaints of Caucus Fraud. There is a hearing in Austin on Friday. And, yes, we should all try to get rid of Caucuses. OVomit wouldn’t BE in this race without the very flawed Caucuses and we would have had Hillary.

Comment by MrMike | 2008-11-11 23:23:08

The Saturday Night Spankers, those kids in J school who’s only sex was pasting the pages of men’s magazines together, would have kept after Hillary as they did during the primaries.
It would be McCain/Romney in the White House.
You know who I mean, two cable pundents in particular, and a whole crew of other print and broadcast “journalists” like the wife beaters repeating the post election lies about Sarah Palin.

I originally thought that Franken would be okay as a Senator. But when he wrote that nasty anti-McCain script for SNL while running for office, it turned me off since I felt that to be unethical at the very least. I hope that Coleman also pulls it off in order to minimize the Dems unchecked power since I no longer trust them.
