As Thanksgiving Approaches

It is important to count our blessings, yes, but also to keep in mind those who are less fortunate. My good friend at No Quarter, Bronwyn, responded to an email I sent her about one of my favorite causes with a suggestion: that we pick a cause that is especially in need at this time, and tell you about it.

Well, you know I cannot narrow it down to just one, though two are similar in nature. I’ll limit it to four, though the other two are also (somewhat) similar to each other. Choice is good.

The email I forwarded to my friend was one that takes in abused and abandoned horses, “People Helping Horses” (PHH). This small organization, located in Washington State, recently accepted a horse rescued by the county named, “Lucky.” According to the PHH newsletter:

Found at a trail head in Skagit County by people out for a trail ride, Lucky and a gelding were taken in by the county who then asked PHH to step in. Lucky, a chestnut Thoroughbred, had been shot in the head above her right eye. The county had the bullet removed and surprisingly she still has vision in the eye though severed tendons in her eyelid have left her with a drooping lid.

Unfortunately, with an economy in a downward spiral, animals often pay the price by being neglected, or worse, killed. Care for horses can be expensive (and though fuel has recently dropped, rate hikes resulted in increased grain/hay hikes, too), and sometimes even good people cannot properly care for a horse any longer. Of course, there are also the cases of abuse, unfortunately. They need and advocate, People Helping Horses steps in to take on horses that fit that bill. They rescue them, rehab them, and put them up for adoption (when appropriate). Horses can be sponsored for as low as $25, though any amount is appreciated. To make a tax-deductible donation (through PayPal, click here and use the Donation button to the right.

Another great horse rescue organization is Castleton Ranch Horse Rescue, located in CA and, like PHH, is a recognized member of the Humane Society and the ASPCA. It, too, is volunteer-run, rescues, rehabs, and puts up horses for adoption. If adoption is not an option (a number of reasons can prohibit adoption, e.g., age, disease, injury), the horses live out the rest of their days at the Castleton Ranch Sanctuary. To make a tax deductible donation (and they do it in cool way, like you can buy a bag of treats, or bale of hay, etc.), click here.

Both of these organizations are nationally recognized for their great work, and in addition to rescue, rehab, adoption, and retirement, they do educational work as well for the horse-owner, and the community.

See, this kind of work is especially meaningful to me since my partner and I have a horse rescued from someone threatening to shoot him in the head. Why? Because she claimed he was having some lameness issues due to advancing age and the type of work he did (hunter/jumper). He is great now – living a life of retirement with supplements that keep his joints relatively pain-free. He even kicks up his heels, uh, hooves, with some of the other horses at the stable now. Here is my big boy, Jordan (that’s his witness protection name), with two of his best friends (also rescued, by the woman who owns the stable):

Of course, there are a number of good, worthy organizations out there, and we give regularly to the big name people and animal organizations regularly. No doubt, they would be happy to receive something, anything, from you as well. But if you have a soft spot for horses, these are two good places to support. No amount is too small in this economic climate.

And since we are getting close to Thanksgiving, I have two other organizations to recommend to you, two of whom you may have heard: Feeding America (formerly Second Harvest) and Oxfam America. Right now, Feeding America is having up to $50,000 matched by Tyson Foods, and each dollar feeds 32 meals. To donate, click here.

Oxfam America deals with “Injustice and Poverty” all around the world, and has a program, Hunger Banquet, to teach about issues of hunger, which includes Fast for a World Harvest, and some other events, all designed to highlight world hunger and to raise money.

All four are worthy organizations, to be sure. If you can help and of these organizations, or another one close to your heart, that would be great. No amount is too small in this economic climate.

And if you cannot give money, please consider using GoodSearch.com as your search engine. You can put in the charity of your choice (after you verify it, or add it if it isn’t already there), and every time you do a search, they give money to your cause. It’s FREE, and you don’t have to use (Obama-supporting) Google. It’s a win-win!

Hello Amy,
sorry this is OT, but I think it is big.
Alan Keyes sues Obama over the citizenship issue.

This is the link.

Comment by J.J. (The PUMA) | 2008-11-14 21:16:54

Please create a thread on Alan Keyes’ lawsuit. This is VERY big. Alan Keyes, as a presidential candidate in California, has a much better claim to having standing than Philip Berg does.

If Keyes could get courts with states having 95 electors to refuse to certify Obama’s electors, Obama would have to either produce the vault copy of his birth certificate or fall below the 270 electors needed for victory.

I am sorry, Mr. Keyes, for all of the times I called you a whack job. (Well, maybe not).

Comment by Randall | 2008-11-14 21:30:19

You’re counting on the wacko lawsuit of a guy you yourself admit is a wack job?

Man, you sure are desperate.

It’s amazing what hate can make people due.

Obama’s our President. Stop whining.

Then again, the more time you spend on API and Berg and Keyes, the less time you will have to get in the way of the progressive change this country needs.

It’ll be a lot easier to pass universal health care without wackos like you getting in the way of serious issues.

So on that thought, why don’t you keep up with the citizenship issue. The only person it is distracting is you, which is good for the rest of the American public.

One thing I do like about WA State is our big warm hearts and how we care so much for animals. I will make a donation for the horses..
On another note I was born on Thanksgiving day in 1960 at exact same time as JFK Jr.
My parents were all about Camelot and the Kennedy’s. It’s an interesting note that this year my mom voted republican for the first time in her life.

Hey Moss,

Does that make you a SCORPIO? Uh oh. Big trouble. Happy Birthday soon.

RRRAmy, thanks for the links to places we can support. You’re so sweet.

BerlinBerlin…I love that Alan Keyes filed that suit. I wonder how they tell HIM he has “no standing” lol since he was on the ballot as a Presidential Candidate. Although the SOS here is a nut and in the bag for Obama.

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-11-14 20:42:09

No that makes me a Sagittarius. I have people telling me that I’m a Sag even before they find out the date.
Very outgoing natural leader with broad intellect and passion for knowledge in the Jeffersonian tradition.

I forgot to add,
Sagittarius are the most romantic of all!!

I bet all the gals here have pretty much figured out that “romantic” thing already. :)

Yes, I now she (D.B.) is, I am in CA too.
He sued her too, btw.
But insn’t that cool? Keyes neutralizes the race thing.
Also the case in NJ (Donofrio) goes to Clarence Thomas. I thought a black judge is supreme!
I am all on lawsuit watch.

Comment by BerlinBerlin | 2008-11-14 20:55:41

that was to OIAF

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2008-11-14 21:09:30

If this suit goes nowhere then I am going to assume that the Supreme Court Justices are somehow in the bag too. They CAN’T ignore this anymore, not when Keyes is the plaintiff. He’s the one who has something to “lose.”

Comment by Randall | 2008-11-14 21:35:34

Haha, definitely.

By the way, I apologize for not coming here to gloat on November 4th like I promised I would. I was busy celebrating history with the rest of America.

Just a question. What happened to all of your October surprises that were going to make Obama unelectable?

What happened with all the polls being fixed by the media. With the 7-9 point party ID in favor of the Democrats being WAY off and skewing the polls in favor of Obama.

AKA: What happened to the PUMA’s?

Oh, and while we’re at it, why does Hillary still have millions in debt. Didn’t Will Bower announce on Fox in July that the PUMAS had retired her entire debt?

Y’all have been brainwashed. Have you realized yet that the “kool-aid” that you all keep talking about is actually being fed to you, not us? Have you realized that the only bots in this country are the ones still obsessed with Obama’s supposed citizenship problems?

70% of the country approves of Obama.

So, where are your 18 million now?

Working with Barack and Hillary to enact positive progressive change in this country.

It’s even more fun to say now what I used to say here all the time: You don’t represent any large number of voters. You’re the lunatic fringe, and while I enjoy making fun of you, we simply have too much change to make to bother anymore. So I’m allowing myself this one more night, and then I’m gone. Y’all will disappear into the depths of anonymity.

My pleasure, OBIA!! Happy to do it. There are SO many great organizations out there, like Doctors Without Borders, and a ton of other rescue organizations, so plenty from which to choose. Or for which one can search to give money…

That is mighty cool, Seattle Moss!! And I can relate to your mother (though I am closer to you in age) abt voting Rep. for the first time. In some ways, it is liberating – as a friend who is a registered Rep said, she votes for the people she thinks are most qualified, regardless of Party. For someone who was a straight-ticket Dem ALWAYS, this has been a whole new year. Of course, that was when the Dem party was still DEMOCRATIC, so there’s that…

And yes – you Washingtonians have great big hearts indeed! PHH is a GREAT place – I first learned of it through my Humane Soc. magazine, I think it was…And honestly, with these places, ANYTHING is a bonus, like using Goodsearch…

Comment by Seattle Moss | 2008-11-14 21:11:59

Amy,
It’s a great feeling being liberated. I can now watch or listen to anything with a fresh perspective. I have found out what is really important to me….Truth!!!

The democrats bought their way to the white house using criminal behavior. The fact that they are so blinded to the hate of Bush to initiate investigations against those that have kept us safe since 911 is despicable.
I know some here are against Hillary being SOS but I’m excited by the prospect. Every time I see her she puts a smile on my face and would be a counter to drab oblahblah.

I love Washington. I have lots of relatives there, mainly in B’ham. My brothers b’day must be near yours, Mossy, also in 1960.

I read the complaint by Keyes & co. It was interesting. It said that there are 17 different lawsuits out there on this issue & that Bark has hired 3 different law firms to defend him. What kind of person pays for 3 different law firms to avoid having to show their birth certificate? All this guy has to do, to stop these suits in their tracks, is show his bloody birth cert. I figure I’ve had to show my kids at least a dozen times each for schools and travel & can’t remember how often I’ve shown my own. Whatever it is he’s hiding about himself, it must be a lallapalooza.

Rev Amy, thanks for the lovely Thanksgiving post. Its a great reminder, & I will pony up (no pun intended!) tomorrow to one of the worthy causes you’ve mentioned. There’s a ranch like that saves horses near where I live (in So Cal).

RRRAmy…I was just thinking that as much as I love to send donations that this year during the holidays I would like to also give time. I missed my feeding the homeless stint last year. Sigh. But it’s really the season of giving and you are fab to remind us to do so.

BerlinBerlin…I pray this one has legs. I emailed with Wiley a while back. He’s a PASTOR in Buena Vista. It doesn’t get much better than these two filing the suit. For those that poo poo this…Personally I won’t stop supporting this unless and until Obama shows the damned BC. WTF? This is America. And that’s one more right being sliced off. I saw the list of everyone that was named in that suit. The electors too? ROFLMAO. Now they all have to get lawyers and answer.

The problem with many many guys I’ve known over the years is that they never planned for tomorrow. When I was in school I studied liberal arts to increase my cultural and communication skills. I have spent a lifetime learning and not just sitting watching sports on the TV. Most of these guys made quick money but lacked the ethics for the long haul. These guys were overly materialistic and have now hit the wall of life.
Myself I have worked hard the old fashioned way by selling products never stepping on anyone and finally taking over a company which I have expanded tremendously.

I guess sometimes I feel like the last man standing!
Now I plan to champion business interests in this state plus work to help women in a sexist world gain true equality.

Off Subject, but a request from one of the IL Officials of Hillary’s Campaign:

I’m asking everyone to please contact Hillary Clinton to let her know that as one of her supporters, you are asking her to just say no to the Secretary of State position in President-elect Barack Obama’s administration. She asked us to support her decision to campaign for Barack. Now, we are asking her to support the decision of her 18 million supporters to remain an independent voice for health care and women’s issues in the U.S. Senate. She may or may not become President of the United States, but she got closer than any other woman–on her own. She can wield more power as the Senator from New York than as the Secretary of State serving at the president’s whim. Saying yes, would set back all the gains that women made this election season. We understand her campaigning for the democratic nominee and having a good working relationship with the POTUS, but that’s where it should end. I really think she needs to hear from us.

The best way to contact Senator Hillary Clinton or her Washington, DC staff is either by fax at (202) 228-0282, phone at (202) 224-4451 or preferably by email http://clinton.senate.gov/contact/webform.cfm.

Comment by Randall | 2008-11-14 21:39:04

80% of her 18 million voters voted for Obama, and I’m willing to bet upwards of 95% would love to see her as SOS.

You’re just the lunatic fringe. Don’t you get that yet?

THAT’s why you were so surprised by the turnout of the election.

Your masters are lying to you – because you are in a cult. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

And how, exactly, would a strong, female SOS set women back?

Do you understand the rules of seniority of the senate? Hillary won’t be that important there.

As Secretary of State she can help make the real chagne and use the experience she talked so much about in the primary.

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2008-11-14 21:57:07

Why don’t you tell that AZZ HAT, FRAUDBAMA, to show his BC? We know you are an uneducated POS TROLL, but you know we DO have this thing called the CONSTITUTION. While Billy Ayers and Fraudbama are burning our Flag, and wiping their skanky azzes with the Constitution, WE THE PEOPLE are protecting our country and our rights. Scurry off to your rathole loser. We’re going to fight this to the end. Until Fraudbama is ousted, as he should be.

A perpetual state of national emergency. What are they planning? What is going on? I am at a loss for words on this one.

Notice of November 10, 2008

Continuation of National Emergency with Respect
to Weapons of Mass Destruction

On November 14, 1994, by Executive Order 12938, the
President declared a national emergency with respect to
the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national
security, foreign policy, and economy of the United
States posed by the proliferation of nuclear,
biological, and chemical weapons (weapons of mass
destruction) and the means of delivering such weapons.
On July 28, 1998, the President issued Executive Order
13094 amending Executive Order 12938 to respond more
effectively to the worldwide threat of weapons of mass
destruction proliferation activities. On June 28, 2005,
I issued Executive Order 13382 that, inter alia,
further amended Executive Order 12938 to improve our
ability to combat proliferation. The proliferation of
weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering
them continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary
threat to the national security, foreign policy, and
economy of the United States; therefore, the national
emergency first declared on November 14, 1994, and
extended in each subsequent year, must continue. In
accordance with section 202(d) of the National
Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing
for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive
Order 12938, as amended.

Great post Amy.
We have a little ranch outside of town where our daughter and her family live, and you cannot BELIEVE the number of puppies (and a couple of full grown dogs) that people just DUMP out there on that country road, leaving them to die.
We’ve all taken them in and/or found homes and rescue organizations. In the process, we’ve been amazed at the number of rescue organizations for dogs (and other animals) in Central Texas. Even for Catahoulas!! (Catahoulas are the State Dogs of Louisiana, our home state).
People who run those recuse groups are the Mother Teresas of the animal kingdom, as far as I’m concerned.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-11-15 12:27:28

That happens all the time to the woman who runs the stable where Jordan is. She has taken in so many animals, gets them spayed/neutered, shots, finds homes for them when she can…GOOD of you all to take them in and find homes for them. People just don’t know how many organizations are out there – just abt every breed of dog has a rescue organization, so that is always a good place to start (LA dogs – cool!!).

And on that note, I was at the SPCA waiting on some meds for the new kittens when we got them, and this woman came in with her small child, and two old Golden Retrievers, who she was surrendering. She said she just could not afford to keep them anymore, and it was clear she didn’t have time to spend on them, either (they were dirty and hadn’t been brushed in a while). They howled and howled for her when she left, in tears (so was I). The SPCA people immediately called the GR rescue people…

Just a word of advice for you new to the sport.

Posting continuous comments about how Obama stole the election or how he isn’t a US citizen (he is) or how he hates America isn’t dissent. It’s whining.

And it’s not gonna get you anywhere.

What, exactly, do you dissent against? Universal Health Care? Ending the war in Iraq? You spend so much time complaining that I’m really not even sure what your problem with Obama is, other than the fact that you’ve been brainwashed to believe he’s an Anti-American terrorist.

“And it’s not gonna get you anywhere…”

We’ll see!

Besides, I like the sound of the title “obstructionist”.

For those who have not signed the RallyCongress Petition Regarding Barack Obama’s Birth Certificate,

For those who have not signed the RallyCongress Petition Regarding Barack Obama’s Birth Certificate, I encourage you to do so. As of right now, 95,332 Petitions have been signed. I personally would like to see at 100,000 to be signed and delivered by December 1, 2008. Before the Electorial College meet.

Below is a Copy Only of the Petition. To sign it and have a copy go to Your State Representatives please follow this link:

http://www.rallycongress.com/constitutional-qualification/1244/stop-obama-constitutional-crisis/

Sign the Petition : 95,332 Letters and Emails Sent So Far
Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution reads: “No Person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.”

There are numerous questions as to Obama’s citizen status raising suspicion and doubt about Obama constitutional qualification to be president. To settle these questions Mr. Obama must produce proof of citizenship!

Documents that must be produced include;
(a) a certified copy of “vault” (original long version) birth certificate;
(b) certified copies of all reissued and sealed birth certificates in the names Barack Hussein Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham and Barry Dunham;
(c) a certified copy Certification of Citizenship;
(d) a certified copy Oath of Allegiance taken upon age of maturity;
(e) certified copies of admission forms for Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law School; and
(f) certified copies of any court orders or legal documents changing his name from Barry Soetoro.

It is reasonable that these documents should be produced considering that his father is Kenyan, his adoptive father is Indonesian, and his grandmother claims to have been present at his birth in Kenya. If he is a natural born citizen then producing these documents should not be any problem.

These allegations will not go away until Mr. Obama produces proof to federal authorities and the public. If he will not do so voluntarily he must be compelled by every means available. You, as an employee of The People, have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution.

We The People are demanding you to make every effort, both public and private, to resolve this fundamental Constitutional question before 20 January.
