Say What You Want About Rachel Maddow …

I, Bronwyn’s Harbor aka Lena Grove aka nasuSPCnU* and whoever else I decide to be (!) profoundly appreciate it that she is reporting this kind of news, which is most certainly MISSING as in MIA on Fox News, which I’m getting tired of … or they’re getting tired of their schtick … or they’ve got a mental flat tire or something … Nocturnal Warrior made some astute observations about Fox News not being nearly as interesting anymore. Anyway, THIS is a good report, Rachel. Hate her or love her, this is worth watching (it’s akin to what one can see on BBC World News America on BBC America, the BBC version on cable and satellite TV):

And here’s Rachel’s report on the rumor about Hillary Rodham Clinton to be Secretary of State — this is a vastly MORE SUBSTANTIVE and VETTED REPORT than that given on Fox News:

YES! The last part of the report is bruising. But it is a mentally challenging report.

Rachel asks some tough, but salient questions. That’s good journalism. We can handle our Hillary being tussled up a bit, so long as it is a report that make us all think.

KEEP LISTENING through the section where Rachel asks the tough questions. A fascinating interview follows that part, with Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

Rachel Maddow gave this story a lot of time and thought. She did a lot of research, preparation and writing. She gave this story FAR MORE TIME and IMPORTANCE than Fox News gave it. So I give them their due.

I tire of flogging the same people and institutions all the time. We need to mix it up.

Fox News is asleep at the switch.

MSNBC is offering some substantive reporting and — in the case of the Hillary Clinton rumor — had GOOD sources and a great backgrounder report.

…….

*Just keep this among ourselves without discussion, may we? We are trying NOT to draw attention because some people will not stop until they destroy my entire life. If they do that, I will self-immolate in front of the Federal Building at the nearest major city. If only to shame the thugs. I will have nothing left soon enough if they succeed, so there’ll be nothing left to do anyway. So don’t contribute to the problems by asking a lot of questions, if I may be harsh with you for a moment. I really thought people would figure this out without my having to say anything, but apparently not.

Olbermann handpicked Rachel Maddow. Therefore, expect the same asinine, sexist garbage fed to viewers as the man who wanted Hillary “taken out the shed and dealt with by a man or two”!~

Rachel may have her journalistic pluses, but for me she’s just another Obamyopically-afflicted camouflaged misogynist, like her Leader Barry Soetoro or whatever his name happens to be these days.

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2008-11-14 09:44:44

You know, I appreciate this, and I had liked Rachel Maddow until her hatred of Clinton became so RABID. So after having been so incredibly biased, it is hard to take Maddow seriously now. Her “remarks” at the end highlight her incredible lack of neutrality.

If it was “bruising” for Hillary to CORRECTLY question Obama’s inexperience, what the hell was it that Obama did to BOTH Clintons?? His was SMEAR, her’s was factual. Big difference. If the whole Iraq War thing was what got Obama the nomination (as opposed to, say, VOTER FRAUD), why did his choosing Biden not matter?

And might I add – if Obama was so abt Change, why is it he keeps picking people from the Clinton Admin. and Hillary herself?? Frankly, I would rather have the real McCoy than this poseur.

You know, I had wondered how in the world Obama was going to create/do policy without Hillary’s website to steal from. Now I know. He’ll put her in the White House and get her to continue to do HIS homework. I HOPE she doesn’t do this!! Let him stand on his OWN already!

Comment by fif | 2008-11-14 10:15:43

Not to mention ANDREA MITCHELL?! Hillary delivered the “worst body blows” of the primaries? I am so sick of the “poor victim Bambi” routine. Every example Maddow gave of HRC’s criticisms was legit. If he can’t handle that kind of critique, then how is he supposed to be CIC, dealing with Putin, Castro, Chavez et. al.? Meanwhile, as usual, all of his and his surrogates’ character assassination attacks, and lies about her policies and record (as First Lady she held “tea parties” on her foreign trips? Bosnia?) are ignored.

Thanks for the reminder of why I never watch MSM reports.

Comment by Linda | 2008-11-14 11:11:19

Andrea Mitchell is a hater. Good catch.

Comment by MBC | 2008-11-14 21:50:49

Andrea Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who admitted he didn’t properly perform his duties as Fed Chairman and therefore allowed the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debacle to fester. These people are all in this together. I keep holding onto hope that Hillary knows what she is doing and will not let America crash and burn, hell I am reduced to hoping George Bush has a plan to stop this madness, but the hope is failing fast and reality is kicking in.

Why is Obama’s candidacy as Black Man any more historic than Hillary’s would have been as A WOMAN PRESIDENT? Please explain the irrational hatred against this competent overqualified compassionate and donw-to-earth woman who’s weathered more storms in her lifetime than Obambi ever will in a hudnred incarnations–in Chicago or anywhere in Hawaii or Hell.

The problem with the news sources today is their lack of consistency. You can point to one instance of actual journalism, but when you add that into the other instances of bad reporting, the percentages of good reporting turn out to be VERY low.

MSNBC is still unacceptable. I choose to find info on blogs, cspan and my own research. No more news.

I cancelled my subscription to LATimes.

I remember how biased the msm was during this election cycle- so will anyone tell me please-WHY ON EARTH SHOULD I PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THEM NOW?

I dont care if what they are saying is accurate or not. In the back of my mind I will always know what great propaganda power the msm yields-they put it into practice this past year.

And please-dont tell me they have learned the error of their ways and will NOW try to give us unbiased and comprehensive news.

They may try to do this in the short term to lull us into sense of security so we re activate our subscriptions and go back to our old viewing habits. And then…someone somewhere will ask the owners of these media giants to sit in on an important meeting concerning national security so that they can all discuss how to best portray the news so that this someone can have a certain objective accomplished.

Sorry- we have lived through this during this election election. Sorry to say that this is no longer under the category of conspiracy theory…

When you have Rachel Maddow talking with Keith Olbermann, Ms Maddow sounds reasonably sensible. When she is doing a solo, she sounds just as much of a propagandist as any FOX News commentator.

Her comments about Iran don’t seem to factor in Obama’s first and quite notable appointment of Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff. I have read in several places that Emanuel is a duel citizen of Israel not to mention having served in the Israeli army. How can those little facts not influence the course and intentions of Obama in the Middle East. I have to say also that I find those facts unsettling myself. The US is not a colony of Israel, nor is Israel the 58th State of the Union. It disturbs me, if the Anti-Defamation League or AIPAC or whoever will allow me to make that observation.

Also, Ms Maddow’s comments on Hillary as a potential Secretary of State, specifically her references to Hillary’s bashing of Obama during the primary, are one-sided. Her suggestion that Hillary will have a conflict with the Obama administration regarding functions like talks without preconditions, etc are based on an assumption that Obama said what he meant during the primaries and not just what was convenient or expedient for him to say at the time. Big mistake. Maddow should know better. Everyone and his grandmother should better than that.

Comment by hadenough | 2008-11-14 10:39:07

Yup. maddow is a bought and paid for obamawhore. The question maddow never asks is why would obama want that racist Hillary in his admin. maddow threw the racist label as much as anybody. That’s what maddow did to help get her candidate elected. Now she wants to pretend it’s all forgotten. No chance.

Comment by Ani | 2008-11-14 11:41:14

Maddow is a total shill for Obama and always has been. She has done nothing but stab Hillary in the back and from every other angle.

Maddow gets no respect or viewership from me now.

She and the rest of her ilk need to be fired for their egregious bias.

None of this people are supposed to have Hillary’s best interests at heart but neither is it their job to set out to destroy her in favor of their empty suited choice.

Comment by Ani | 2008-11-14 11:42:21

Why should we suddenly decide that they can now be trusted to report any truth?

Comment by Andy | 2008-11-14 10:14:23

Did you really like Rachel Maddow’s first video? …

Hummm it sounded like BO’s propaganda: first she’s trying subliminally trying to make the case of using some force against Pakistan (yes I now she talks about diplomacy but she shows and says and tries to convey a lot of contradictory things there).

Second the rest of that first video about Iran is nothing but a big ode to Obama’s wisdom (re. sitting w/world leader without preconditions) and magical charisma that is as already changing the world and Ahmadinejad … Sorry, I’m not buying Maddow’s thrill on this one.

Will watch the second video about HRC now–so more later.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-11-14 10:15:22

So…….one decent report from Maddow and that makes her a Journalist Saint? I could care less what she thinks or does. She should have done some fair journalism when it really counted like when an illegal alien was running for President.

I don’t care what anyone thinks or says. We have never ever had a candidate w so many questions swirling around them about whether they are a US Citizen. Barack Obama was not born in this country or he would have produced conclusive proof.

Comment by Old Grumpy Guy | 2008-11-14 10:19:42

The same Rachel Maddow that never mentioned the sexist smears against Hillary? Or when she was asked didn’t see it?

The same Rachel Maddow that excused Obama’s open disdain for the GLBT community re: McClurkin and company?

Funny how she failed to be as diligent, hardworking, investigative, and brutal when it came to Obama.

Had she been consistent and hard-hitting like this throughout the campaign I’d giver her her props.

Now she wants to actually do her job? No kudos here.

Comment by Betty Lou | 2008-11-14 10:25:53

I agree, a true journalist doesn’t take sides, tells the truth, doesn’t cuddle up to the candidate for whatever reason, period, even if it means incurring the anger of those with power, (or the blogger set).

Otherwise, you’re just some PR tool.

A true journalist should advocate for the public.

But I guess they’re not really trained, it’s not like someone taught them to evaluate, and question, both sides.

And then they have to please their boss, (corporate media bosses have an agenda, too), — like the WMD crap, and Cheney, the info for war, cherry picked, the intense pressure on the CIA to lie — I suppose its’ not any different from a news anchor struggling to keep his job, and a boss with an agenda.

Comment by hootnannie | 2008-11-14 10:23:10

Fox is so besotted now on its increased ratings that it will probably go soft and try to play it down the middle. I will never watch MSNBC or CNN again. The former is bound to lose viewers as the O-bots go back to watching music and cartoon channels. CNN had better clean house of jokes-as-political-commentators like Cafferty and Brown and strive to get back its former rep. But the prospects for that don’t look good when the disrespect for viewers is so bad that Campbell is presented as “No bias, no bull”, and the audience is supposed to swallow that.
Most of the media will not dare to question Dear Leader in our soon-to-be banana republic. So what if he doesn’t pass Constitutional muster to be Prez? He broke several laws regarding Selective Service, the Logan Act, and various and sundry Illinois statutes? Oh, well. His buddy Billy can tromp the Constitution as well as the Stars and Stripes. Heaven only knows how many votes were illegally cast, but what can you expect in a nation where laws are conveniently ignored?

Both of these videos show MSNBC attempting to erase our memories. Sorry. Not possible. The Hillary story feels like an imaginary carrot after a bruising stick. “Maybe…she is being considered for a cabinet post…maybe…” Baloney.
Rachel Maddow has lost all credibility. Anything she says, I doubt. Period. She earned that skepticism by lying repeatedly during the campaign NIGHT AFTER NIGHT. Two weeks out and I’m supposed to take her seriously? No way. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”

I agree, Artemis-I think it’s “carrot before the stick” baloney that we saw before. I think it’s a deliberate tactic by the Obama camp to distract from anything negative to do with Obama and hopefully get the “sweeties” to shut the hell up.

Comment by HC | 2008-11-14 10:33:09

Maddow seems to think its great that Iran can once again influence our elections. I am old enough to remember the Carter v Ayatollah smackdown. I didn’t like it then and I don’t like it now. My benchmark for satisfaction with elected officials has nothing to do with making Iran happy.

Maddow also says that Iran is afraid of Obama and is ready to negotiate. I say the opposite. Obama is not Reagan as regards the “scare” factor. Iran knows we elected someone who will NOT hold their feet to the fire. Of course they are happy to chat.

We elected someone who is selling hope and change and not much else. Iran is happy. Change was the theme of their own revolution back in ‘79.

Comment by dani | 2008-11-14 10:35:10

Your kidding me, right???

You mean the same Rachael Maddow that called Sarah P a whack job at least 3 times last week in one report and did her best to tear Hillary down in the Primaries.

I find your article kinda sad when it’s so obvious she is 150% in the tank for Obama and has yet to be journalistic when it comes to him.

I respectfully vote this the “worst article” I’ve ever read on NQ.

Bronwyn, you are a depressive man-hater…damaged goods. I heard you on the radio and you should seek help.

Why would you like this crazed Rachel Maddow report? There is nothing there. Nothing. Just more hatred of Hillary Clinton and idol worship of Obama.

If that’s how you feel, maybe you should just make the move to Kos.

Comment by SFIndiePUMA | 2008-11-14 10:37:59

I can’t watch Rachel Maddow without remembering how despicable she was to Hillary Clinton. I can’t watch Rachel Maddow without remembering how she fawned over Barack Obama (and, in that first video, continues to).

I have no intention of letting “bygones be bygones”. From now on, I will hold people accountable for what they do, or have done, and Rachel Maddow was a huge contributor to the sexism and misogyny of this past 2 years.

As far as I’m concerned, she is completely lacking in integrity and she’s destroyed any credibility she might have had at one time. So, I won’t watch her, and I won’t give her any applause for anything she says, because anything that comes out of her mouth will be forever formed and colored by her actions throughout the 2008 election.

I banish her from my kingdom queendom!

“Andrea congratulations for the scoop” ?? uh?? Andrea Mitchell has ben in bed w/the Obama camp for ages…. What is Andrea M. being congratulated for exactly here by Rachel Maddow?

Rachel cannot imagine HRC as “Obama’s SoS ” because she still refuses to see that BO was stealing HRC’s ideas all the time. So once you realize BO would need a full time tutor it’s not that hard to image BO would ask her…We’ll see.

KEEP LISTENING through the section where Rachel asks the tough questions. A fascinating interview follows that part, with Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

What tough questions? Didn’t hear anything here that was intellectually/politically or otherwise challenging. She keeps asking about the issue of HRC “bruising” her hero… As if HRC were just capricious and unable to do anything effective now that BO will be POTUS.
When the truth is that she is a serious, thoughtful and honest pol who truly cares about the US and Americans more than herself– unlike what BO has so far demonstrated.

Rachel won’t be credible she takes off the BO’s glasses through which sees and analyses everything. She is THAT obvious.

I want objectivity for journalists not continuous opinion mixes up w/reporting. I am sorry but RM is nothing but another opinion show.

You might have been right the first time, a lot of them do the bidding of their bosses, without, they have no job.

Even as they’re choking on the “news” they have to read…

I don’t necessarily make a judgement on it, it’s not very often one can stand up, and tell his boss to go to hell.

But they have lost their credibility, preaching to the choir…

Comment by James (San Jose) | 2008-11-14 15:56:37

Missed one -”to many” is also wrong. It should be “too many.” There are three different spellings to,too, and two. It is a bear to remember the difference. Example: I went to the store and my spouse went too. To can be a preposition, a particle, or rarely an adverb while too is always an adverb. Two is the odd man out (actually the even man out to be mathematically correct) as it a number and thus a noun. Follow your own advice, slow down, read the sentence. That way you will catch those easy slip ups like to / too , your/ you’re, its/ it’s and finally there, their, and they’re.

Bronwyn was just pointing out the quality of the report itself, noting it as unusual. She was not endorsing Maddow. She’s suggesting maybe some turn in MSNBC’s efforts at more substantial reporting rather than their usual biased personality contests and attempts to evoke American Idol. For me, I want a helluvalot more evidence of that before I turn MSNBC back on. Andrea Mitchell is permanently off my list of serious journalists worth listening to.

Comment by Andy | 2008-11-14 11:27:42

scorbs:

All MSM are trying this BS rehab and backpedaling into (fake) objectivity now that Bo has been elected. They went to an unprecendented extreme and it cost them $$$ in viewers. They hold onto the trashing just enough to guarantee BO got elected and NOW they are “changing”

Puh-leaze….

I will NOT buy any of the BS until there is a wholesale change in the reporters themselves.

New faces with new reporting maybe I believe what you say.

The same faces, without ANY acknowledgement of what they did and start doing some corrective reporting that is actually CRITICAL of BO with all the substance there is out there?

I don’t think so.

She is giving Maddow props for her reporting. Buut that has only to do with MSNBC but not Maddow?

Larry,

Did you read this post by Bronwyn Harbor?

http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/11/14/say-what-you-want-about-rachel-maddow/

Try reading the first and last paragraphs. She is psychotic.

You really need to consider whether you want her posting articles on your site. did you hear her on Dr. Lynette Long’s blogspot radio show this week? Bronwyn has clearly lost it.

First paragraph….nuts:

Last paragraph….psychotic:
*Just keep this among ourselves without discussion, may we? We are trying NOT to draw attention because some people will not stop until they destroy my entire life. If they do that, I will self-immolate in front of the Federal Building at the nearest major city. If only to shame the thugs. I will have nothing left soon enough if they succeed, so there’ll be nothing left to do anyway. So don’t contribute to the problems by asking a lot of questions, if I may be harsh with you for a moment. I really thought people would figure this out without my having to say anything, but apparently not.

Comment by scorbs | 2008-11-14 10:51:05

I like that about this place

I do think the babble before and after was weirdness but who am I to talk (I take a LOT of medication). I get confused myself sometimes. Hopefully that’s all it is.

This whole election has been WEIRD so what’s new eh? LOL

Comment by Betty Lou | 2008-11-14 11:03:37

I’ve been reading Thomas Pynchon’s “Mason and Dixon,” as of late, one can get into the mindset, and understand the lesson through the narrative, really, the stream of consciousness combined with surrealistic symbolism still says the same about those grieving over the whole of human history, so to speak, right, like Shakespeare, like Fitzgerald, like Faulkner?

So, this is the same, really not weird, just different, a different form of (artistic) narrative, such as it is.

Comment by Arabella Trefoil | 2008-11-14 11:05:05

Yeah, it’s been bizarre. I guess this is why this kind of thing freaks me out. After a while, a person can lose her sense of humor: the reality is stranger than fiction.

Comment by Tess | 2008-11-14 11:01:07

Klobuchar: useless again. She said absolutely nothing except to parrot what the newsfolks said. And we pretty well know already how the Obama team works. HOW did she even get on the show?
Klobuchar is one of the Senators who endorsed Obama because her 12 year old told her to. Then she bragged about it…a Pelosi soulmate.

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-11-14 12:41:01

I have gotten deep into the MN DFL party this year because of all this crap and rumor has it that Klobuchar kissed BO’s ass because the Democratic Senatorial campaign Committee is promising her to be the first woman POTUS. Yep. I believe the source, too, because they also told me about some ads that were coming out about Al Franken that would make him unelectable. Those ads did come out exactly like I had been told. Amy Klobuchar is a waste of time. I campaigned for her and thought she had been a tough County Prosecuter, but in the Senate she has done nothing and then after the sexism she and 9 other lady Senators got together to fight sexism without Clinton. what did they do? The 10 ladies had a frickin’ tea party and wore sill hats and high heels and gloves! I wrote to her to inquire how that helped women’s issues? She responded with a very nasty email. she said that my issue was nothing she could do anything about so I could contact her if I ever had a Senatorial issue and go Obama, basically.

I am telling you right now that they better not carry Klobuchar up the ladder to a job she doesn’t deserve because she has been kissing the right political asses. In 2010, donate to her opponents campaign. I know that I am a democrat who will be voting Indie or Republican on that ticket now. If anyone wants a new target to go after, it should be Klobuchar. Get her out

Other than saying HRC would be a good SOS (talk is cheap — it’s just a rumor after all) there was nothing about this MSNBC report that I found redemptive. Until I hear the sexism and mysogyny employed against Clinton and Palin are at least acknowledged if not apologized for, I’ll continue to avoid the network.

The last straw for me re: Maddow was immediately after the VP debate when people were grasping and stretching for reasons to declare Biden the victor. Rachel Maddow’s contribution? Her first remark criticized Palin’s elocution and the cadence of her voice. Some Rhodes Scholar, that one. Even Andrea Mitchell gave Palin credit.

I agree, I won’t give the network a second thought, they’re in the tank for Obama, simply a cable PR tool, for his campaign, much like Fox, and Bush.

What in the world makes them think they have any credibility?

Same with all the cable networks, they’re superflous at this point, any pretense toward intelligent journalism, long, long gone.

Rachel Maddow is the only good thing MSNBC has to offer. Her reporting is far superior to anything on the MSM. I wouldn’t be surprised if CNN offered her big bucks to join their team. If she were to move to any other channel, one thing is for sure….she would get alot more viewers than she gets on MSNBC.

If you heard this crazy woman on the radio, you’d know.

Check out her other posts….in the last one she absolutely bashes Sen. McCain for not properly defending (in her view) Gov. Palin.

If you were a NQ friend and had been following what has happened you would understand what is Bronwyn writing about in that last* paragraph and why: there is a background to it. Same as with her call into Dr. Lynn’s show (Lynn knows her and knew what she was taling about, unlike you).

So back off the insults.

Comment on the Rachel Maddow’s videos and whether you think they are good, bad, mediocre, etc etc and if you don’t like them or don’t think much of them then write about that and why you differ from the poster on the appreciation of them.

On the other hand if your intent is to blindly insult people and the writers at NQ, go somewhere else.

Comment by Priscilla | 2008-11-14 12:34:32

The substance was she sounded like someone who was obsessed with man-hating and who wanted to slit her wrists at any moment. Dr. Long had to talk to her like she was a mental patient to keep her from doing the deed right on the air. It was a tense call to say the least.

Comment by Karma | 2008-11-14 13:20:35

Comment by Alice Paul | 2008-11-14 11:04:54

Oh how “kind” of her to pretend to fairly cover Hillary but, state a well placed “lie” at the end about body blows when the truth is I remember someone falsely claiming Hillary was a racist who wished death on her opposition. Unforgivable. And another swipe for her to blame the swiping on Hillary now. She’s good little b.s. artist. That’s NOT reporting. It’s more word salad dressed up as reporting. And MSNBO is one of the reasons Hillary is not POTUS right now. Let them fully cover the caucus frauds and then maybe I’ll tune in. Otherwise, I stopped watching their drivel months ago and I see no reason to go back to subjecting myself to propaganda.

Then he is this great diplomat with Iran, but he can’t manage to get over her ‘bruising’ campaign statements when he smeared the Clintons as racists? If Clinton was bruising….the Obama campaign was gunning for intensive care/death with the Clintons.

Oh and just for good measure a report about her Iraq vote. But nothing about Kerry’s, Biden’s, Rahm’s (if he could vote he stated support), etc. You would think the war was only started thanks to Hillary’s sole vote on Iraq.

What damage did Obama and RM and her ilk do to the Clintons…Well I was listening to a Right Wing radio show a couple days ago..It was mentioned that Hillary gave a speech and the response from the AA in the audience was very tepid because of hard feelings from the racism she and Bill showed during the Primaries against Obama.

Has anyone taken any of that back. Does RM and her buddies care that they have engraved the word “Racist” on the Clintons ? It was all lie and they know it or don’t want to admit they know it because it helped to get their guy elected.

I will never , ever forgive any of them for that.

Bronwyn’s Harbor, thank you for the post. Most of us are no longer watching MSNBC anymore, but we shouldn’t be resistant to knowing what’s going on “over there.” It’s just that right now Rachel Maddow is salt in an open wound. No, let’s make that “acid” in an open wound. Right now, if we lose focus on what caused the initial injury and start to “heal,” we may become complacent. Before long, we might start to think that maybe it’s okay to fall asleep next to a pod. We are, after all, very tired.

I think so.

It seems to be the collective wisdom of the blog this is a ploy to make it look like bygones are bygones between OBonaparte and Hillary, all at the same time sticking a shiv in her back because she won’t be offered anything. Like what happened with “reports” of her being considered for VP. Also I guess to appease us Hillary supporters.

We should stop jumping at these media reports, since the media has become the propaganda arm of pols and corporations.

Are you out of your frigging mind? This woman (and I say this without offending the real women of today) bashed Hillary Clinton most of the summer. This woman (and once again she doesn’t deserve this gender title) bashed Palin most of the last 9 weeks without non-stop. And you think she is a great journalist? This woman who by looking at her hates the word “women” and thinks that she is a “man” has spend most of her career in the Joe S and Mika and Cris Matthew show bashing the great women of today, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. She foamed at the mouth when her messiah’s name came up and didn’t once give credit to the Clintons. I think you didn’t see much of her shows, did you? If you going to be gay, well, that is your business, but, someone please put some makeup on this woman and tell her that pretty women are smart too.

You could get the names of the justices right. If this is how Berg’s office spells and presents the names of these justices, we know why his cases are being thrown out of court.

Very thought-provoking piece. I’ve been trying to de-Balkanize my news sources.

I was a Clinton supporter who went for McCain and was eviscerated for my political voice. Up until less then one year ago, I still considered the New York Times, Rachel Maddow, Sam Seder, Randi Rhodes, etc. to be valid, balanced sources of news and information.

Then, things began to change, and I was awakened from my slumber, LOL!

It was only last spring when I fully realized neither political party could be trusted in the least, and knowing that has been disorienting, but a good thing. I never realized how discontented I was with the left….my disgust with Bush obscured that reality. And I don’t think we should trust any one news outlet, talk channel, journalist, etc. I understand I fell into the trap of elevating them over their level of actual competence and integrity.

I forgot no political entity has a monopoly on the truth. We will soon have less access to what is happening then we ever had before. Maybe the key is not to push the mediocre to be best….rather, we might have to settle for wresting the best nuggets of intel from the mediocre.

I don’t think I could ever forgive Olbermann or Rhodes, though.

And Fox HAS declined since the election, to a point where I have to wonder if they are somehow fighting for their own survival….

Comment by Priscilla | 2008-11-14 12:03:39

Scottymac…i think you have it right. My own story tracks with yours very closely.

I can not believe that anyone in their right mind could find anything good to say about MSNBC and their hired assassins. This was the most biased of all the TV stations and you don’t have to take my word. It was judged to be so by out side sources. Maddow and Mitchell were among the thugs that helped destroy the Hillary campaign.

There is NOTHING maddow or msnbho can or ever will say/do to UNDO the damage they have caused. They can lay under the bus and I still will NEVER trust nor give credit to ANYTHING of theirs! Only the VERY naive and truly gullible can even begin to do so… maddow is a disgrace to lesbians, women, and intelligent thinking. She is the worst kind of gay woman… one that just wants ‘approval’ from ‘the guys’. She is too f’in stupid to realize how little they all truly respect her. Wouldn’t she be shocked to hear what ‘the guys’ say behind her back!!!

I can’t watch Fox since election night. And I haven’t watched MSNBC in so long that I appreciate you posting Maddow so I can see what I’ve been missing. I actually used to love her on Air America.

But it is obvious that the “sell” continues and that these people are so in the tank for Obama we will never hear/read/see unbiased news again from the left or the right.

I think my power of discernment before the political assassination of Hillary. If I hadn’t had this one blog as something of a reality-based center during the crisis, I would have gone over the edge.

Yet, if I’d read Larry’s blog three years ago, I probably would have dismissed it as over-alarmist and too hawkish for my taste, so who knows? Conditions change, and the liars find ways to get stronger.

I relied on Fox News at a point where the Botnoise had grown so feverishly to the left, it was a point of equilibrium, particularly Cavuto vs Hillary, Greta vs Palin, etc.

I’m not a fan of Hannity, but he WAS the only one to comment on Ayers, Wright, Pfleger, etc. at a point where many conservative sources chose to downplay them, and the leftist blogs and sources insisted they didn’t exist…

But I don’t think Fox had any interest in helping Hillary, only in derailing McCain, and that’s fine, as long as I’m getting clues I can confirm independently on my own, so we can at least try to ferret out the real deal.

And I still like “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, as well as Pat Buchanan.

Bronwyms harbor’s post re: Rachel maddow’s reports reminded me why MSNBC is so disgustingly biased for Obambi. This is still the same old Obama, unfit and unready. The media can pile on as much ink and video they want. This ‘dude’ is Bush cubed in terms of being completely unprepared and unready. I hope Hillary told this doofus in Chicago that leaking her name for consideration for Sec of State was the move of a jackass, and told him to shove it. In diplomatic wording of course.

Comment by Val | 2008-11-14 12:32:29

Since this election is over, are we going to so easily forget how biased the main stream media was against Hillary and forget all their sexist remarks? MSNBC being one of the leaders of this misogyny? For these reasons alone I would not turn my back on Fox, who were the most fair and balanced during this campaign and extended that fairness to Hillary.

Let me remind you of who the biased main stream media is again. MSNBC whose ratings are in last place because of people like Maddow, CNN, whose ratings are in second place with 2 million viewers, as opposed to Fox who is in first place with 8 million viewers. Then we have NBC, CBS and ABC too.

It is a little known fact that liberals are not a loyal viewer base. Now that this election is over, MSNBC is getting desperate for higher ratings, since a lot of their liberal viewer base has deserted them, because they no longer need them now.

I joined PUMA because I was so digusted by the unfair and sexist treatment that the main stream media was dishing out to Hillary. I for one, will not forget that lesson so soon.

Comment by James (San Jose) | 2008-11-14 16:27:59

Ya Fox was really “balanced” with Palin. HA! Before the election Fox was snuggling up to Palin with “interviews” that were infomercials for the Governor. Then after the election, suddenly the knives came out for Sara. It was like a freaking ginzu knife commercial on with Palin playing the tomato can. What short memories N.Q. denizens have, Fox was deeply in the tank for the mayor of 9/11 until Rudy’s run collapsed. And when Hillary was first lady there was no end to the smears that Fox indulged in against her. If HRC had gained the nomination Fox would have unloaded dump trucks full of slime on her. Instead they did that yeoman service on Obama. Fox was nice to Hillary only because it served their agenda of harming the Democratic Party. If HRC gets State Fox will pick right up where they left off way back in 1999; slandering and sliming both HRC and the Big Dog every hour of every day.

All of MSNBC is going to have to change their
tune because Politico had an article today on
how Obama has hired 31 0f 47 people so far from the Clinton Administration. You know those people that Obama said were the past and he was going to bring the shiny new, hopey changey people to Washington. There is however, one very important ingredient missing President Hillary Clinton. I am watching half of the far left online who hated the Clintons and have proclaimed and shouted from the roof tops that the Clinton era is dead go ballistic over this and the rest trying to now justify how smart Obama is for picking the ones they hate. It was also amusing to watch Buzzflash.Com who literally trashed Hillary every day proclaim in a headline story today that Hillary would be a super choice for Secretary of State.

Obama has not “hired” anyone other than Emanuel. Everything else is in flux. He is already getting push-back from the Dean wing of the party about the excessive number of Clintonistas being floated as possibilities. Other than Carter Clinton was the only other Democratic executive we elected recently. To govern you really do need people who have had experience. As the Carter team is a little long in the tooth, that leaves the Clinton posse as the only other group that has experience.

One of Bill Clinton’s major problems was that his staff was so green and inexperienced. By the time they found out how Washington really worked Clinton got side-swiped by the Gingrich Revolution. Obama has no interest in repeating that piece of Clinton history.

If Obama wants to govern he has to invite former Clinton operatives onto his team. Hell, he is possibly looking into the ultimate Clinton operative as Secretary Of State- HRC. Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer.

Please note though how the vetting is progressing. No surprise nominations, each prospect is carefully floated in a strategic leak. Only after the Media and the unwashed masses have opined does the staff move. Candidates who’s negatives are excessive never get the final nod. It is slow, deliberate and deliberative process.

Since Obama is taking his time it might be wise to see how the process unfolds before giving it a thumbs down. None of the slots in the cabinet are filled yet and nobody really knows who will be who in zoo. Just because a person served in the Clinton administration it does not make them a Clintonista; does the name Bill Richardson ring a bell?

Sure, as long as she’s shoehorned into a position sufficiently subordinate to Barky….

Some of the bots’ gyrations the day Emanuel’s appointment was interested, too….they’d bring back Jeffrey Dahmer from the dead and inflict him on the populace, if they thought it could somehow be spun to Barry’s credit.

Good investigative reporting? or continued mouthpiece for Obama?

What I see is suddenly a turn towards showing the horrors of war in a sympathetic new light, and setting up the stage for Obama to go into Pakistan… and excuse his letting down his anti-war supporters, who will gobble it all up like baked koolaid.

Are you freaking kidding me. Good investigative reporting?

Comment by Val | 2008-11-14 13:52:47

Actually Obama is not letting down his voters, he said he would attack Pakistan to get to the taliban, his voters were not listening too well. That is their fault, not Obama’s. By the way I have no respect for Obama, but the least amount of research on him would have alerted his voters to who he really was.

Politics is very much like Mother Nature! Rachel Maddow may be the *praying mantis* of MSNBC. She may see Dame Hillary as a ‘grasshopper’. In nature, the praying mantis stealthily grabs the grasshopper and, then, begins to eat off her feet, then her legs, then her torso, and, finally, her head! Maybe Rachel is Obama’s *kissing cousin*, back from the good ole days, of yesteryear? Like a Praying Mantis, they both have long angular faces, tall slender boyish bodies, dark hair, deep brown eyes and long slender fingers? They are both attractive…yet, not beautiful or handsome. As my Granny Rosa always taught me, “Blood is thicker than water and IT will find it’s *Own*, through hellfire and brimstone”!!

Hi Linda,

My comments are blocked from time to time. Often, I can’t surmise why. I finally wrote to NQ and asked about it. I received the following reply (please note that I have no idea if this applies to your situation or not):

Some of your comments are getting flagged as spam by Akismet, the external spam-blocking service we use. It’s difficult to say why, because they use fuzzy logic and sometimes false positives occur. But unfortunately, when you attempt to re-post the same comment, that pretty much guarantees that Akismet will decide you’re a spammer, since duplicate comments are a hallmark of spammers.

Since this seems to be an intermittent effect, I suggest that if a comment of yours disappears, you simply send a note here and do NOT attempt to re-post.

Also, you could try using a different computer and/or a different email address.

Sorry!

I am not surprised that Obama would offer Hillary the Secretary of State position. It goes to the old adage:

“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

Obama recognizes that his one major internal threat for disunity is Hillary.

I for one would hope she does not accept the post.

By doing so would stick it back to Obama for overlooking her completely for Vice President.

More importantly cabinet Secretaries are largely window dressing for a first term President. You can go back in time and see that President’s rely more on specific advisors and even undersecretaries. Colin Powell was not in control of major foreign policy decisions at any point in time. Cheney and Rice had far more influence than Powell. I would guess that Obama will take advice primarily through whomever he selects as advisors and expect cabinet secretaries to go along with those marching orders. I would think that Hillary is already aware of that.

In addition, by signing up with Obama she takes herself out of consideration for competing against him in four years if his administration is as hopeless as Carter’s was when Ted Kennedy challenged him.

Overall, she could be going down with the ship by taking that cabinet post and hope she does not.

I believe she could become the pary leader if and when an Obama administration faulters and could accomplish what Ted Kennedy could not against Carter.

Comment by NYC | 2008-11-14 14:33:59

I have the feeling that this is the reason why all of the sudden Hillary started kissing Obambi’s @$$ and started campaigning for him like if there was not tomorrow. I was very disappointed of her. If she accepts, providing that the article/video says is true, she will be out of my book. BTW, I can’t stand that Rachel woman!

I used to listen to Rachel Maddow until it became clear that she, too, had sold her soul and embraced the cult of O, as evidenced by severe Clinton Derangement Syndrome. Maddow’s show has increasingly embraced the infotainment genre, foregoing serious exploration of issues in favor of faux-clever sound bites. I stomached part of the broadcast referenced in this article, screaming insanely at my husband to “turn it off” when she launched into her twisty, mind-f**k spin based upon Clinton’s campaign assertion re: The Divine Infant’s ill-preparedness to tackle foreign policy. IMHO, the consideration of Clinton represents an implicit acknowledgement of The Child’s inability to do the job, which is why she probably won’t be appointed. From my perspective, Maddow’s report on this topic represents MSNBC’s continued gift-bearing to The One, imlying that he is sound of judgement, and magnanimous in his Divine forgiveness.

Eh. Just because FOX News is lacking doesn’t mean I’m going to ever watch MSNBC again. (Screw Rachel Maddow, Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell and everyone on Joe Scarborough’s worthless show. They can all rot. I loath all those yellow journalists.) Actually I don’t watch CNN or the major networks either. I read NY Times on-line (because it’s free and even though they slant left they have a large variety of news) and The Wall Street Journal (their op-ed page leans right but their news is good.) I also love alot of the shows on NPR (you can often download them off the internet or listen to them on-line) and C-Span. Seriously, C-Span is the greatest thing since sliced bread. lol.

The best thing on Fox is Britt Hume. I watch Hannity and O’Reilly during the election but now that the election is over I don’t watch either anymore.

Anyway, the bottom line for me: The 4th estate died this year. We’ve got to be more discerning news consumers if we want to get to the truth. We can’t mindlessly believe the crap spewed by the media anymore. Multiple sources of info is our best bet. That’s what I TRY to do at least.

Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution reads: “No Person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.”

There are numerous questions as to Obama’s citizen status raising suspicion and doubt about Obama constitutional qualification to be president. To settle these questions Mr. Obama must produce proof of citizenship!

Documents that must be produced include;
(a) a certified copy of “vault” (original long version) birth certificate;
(b) certified copies of all reissued and sealed birth certificates in the names Barack Hussein Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham and Barry Dunham;
(c) a certified copy Certification of Citizenship;
(d) a certified copy Oath of Allegiance taken upon age of maturity;
(e) certified copies of admission forms for Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law School; and
(f) certified copies of any court orders or legal documents changing his name from Barry Soetoro.

It is reasonable that these documents should be produced considering that his father is Kenyan, his adoptive father is Indonesian, and his grandmother claims to have been present at his birth in Kenya. If he is a natural born citizen then producing these documents should not be any problem.

These allegations will not go away until Mr. Obama produces proof to federal authorities and the public. If he will not do so voluntarily he must be compelled by every means available. You, as an employee of The People, have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution.

We The People are demanding you to make every effort, both public and private, to resolve this fundamental Constitutional question before 20 January.

Bronwyn’s Harbor, ten out of ten points for actually trying to do something contrarian here. You must have known the shit-storm you were about to stir.

And just like clock work the villagers picked up the pitchforks and torches. It is so predictable. Nothing is going to interfere with their sense of umbrage and self-righteousness. Any person who dared whisper anything the least bit negative about Hillary is automatically Persona non Grata and in the tank for Obama.

Of course NQ being NQ the thread rapidly departed any semblance of civility and went straight into attacking Maddow’s sexuality and looks as if that was somehow relevant to the discussion.

If anyone here actually listened to her on Air America, or podcasted her from the site they would know that Maddow was no Obama-bot. Maddow was a constant critic of the Obama campaign from the left. Because of her left leanings she was also a constant critic of what she saw as right-wing smears against Obama no matter where the source.

As a civics and National Security geek she was instantaneously nervous with any person foisting a meme about a Democrat being weak on defense. She saw such talking points as corrosive and false. So when HRC trotted them out she was unhappy with a Democrat running what she saw as a Republican talking point. Maddow objects to the entire notion of Democratic “weakness” on defense. She also objects to the notion that brute force is the first and only answer to foreign policy conundrums.

Maddow was one of the first journalist to take Obama to task for his Pakistan policy pronouncement. She was very critical of Obama’s excessive deference to the Israeli lobby. She worried about the Wright and Ayers connections before they became household words.

She does have a soft spot for Obama because she see him as both smart and calm. She has an even softer spot for the Democratic Party and worried excessively about the possible damage Clinton might be doing it by dragging out the nomination process. It was not an anti-Clinton bias it was an anti-party divisiveness bias that informed Maddow. She worried that the Democrats via the Clinton fight would find a way to loose. She saw the fight leading to her ultimate horror; the election of John Sidney McCain III and four more years of Republican misrule.

When McCain wrapped up the nomination her bias was simple and consistent- pick one! Barack, Hillary, please Democrats– Pick one. That was her constant refrain from February onwards. She was even thinking of have her listeners call the Super Delegates to pressure them into declaring a choice. If it were up to Maddow she probably would have forced Hillary and Obama into a coin flip right after McCain cleared the Republican nomination.

As political science doctorate Maddow was always going to be critic of both Obama and Hillary’s less than honest pronouncements. She knows the process because she is a process geek. So when Hillary came up with multiple reasons of why she should be the nominee that did not pan out Rachel called Hillary out on that. When the Clinton Campaign lost message discipline and started leaking like a sieve she pointed that out too. When the Clinton camp went to messaging about how they had gained the majority of votes, Maddow as a responsible journalist had to point out how that claim was a.)at best barely true and possible false and b.) even if true not pertinent to how the Democratic Party chooses the nominee.

And when Obama’s became the nominee Rachel was totally behind the Democratic Parties nominee as any Air American ( that would be a listener to Air America) would be. Rachel started her gig at MSNBC as the foil to the man she called “Uncle Pat” That would be right wing ideologue and Sara Palin supporter Pat Buchanan. Ever since she began her career at a tiny station in Massachusetts Maddow has worn her left-liberal, pro-gay rights, process geek politics on her sleeve. She was against the Iraq war from the start and was stridently and snarkily anti Bush from the start.

Before Palin showed up on the scene she was merciless with McCain for his connections with lobbyists and odd-ball preachers. She was ruthless in her deconstruction of McCain the Republican Party.

And in a field that N.Q. readers used to care deeply about, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the Bush Administration prosecution of the war on terror, Maddow was a klaxon in the might cutting through the happy bullshit the administration and the corporate media put out. Every broadcast on her radio show starts off with “life during wartime” an in depth report on the news in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is real news from the front that you don’t hear anywhere else.

Yes Maddow was brutal with Palin, if she refused to show deference to the president of the United States in her broadcast why should she give the governor of Alaska a pass? There was no secret to Rachel’s attitude toward Palin. Rachel was quite blunt about it, Maddow felt that Palin was deeply unqualified to be Vice President. Maddow was quite clear that she found the governor incurious, ill-informed, ill-prepared and laugh-out-loud ridiculous. She made no secret of her policy differences with Palin. Rachel saw Palin as a cynical political move by the McCain campaign to appeal to the Hillary voters. Her objection to Palin continues to be heart-felt and has nothing to do with Sara as a female and everything to do with who and what Palin represents. Maddow’s objection to Palin is exactly what you would expect from a politically and socially left of center person who just happens to be gay. Her objection is shared with Thom Hartman, Ron Regan ( yes the son of the Gipper), David Bender and other “Air Americans.” It is a political and philosophical objection and it is no secret.

I don’t expect the hermetically sealed denizens of N.Q. approve of this message. People who sign themselves as “Obama is a Traitor” have gone so deeply around the bend in their hatred, paranoia, and obsessiveness as to be unreachable. The complete abandonment of rational and dispassionate thought is at base disturbing. People are still pinning their hopes to tapes or court cases that have no chance of ever turning up in the shape desired. Distortions and outright lies are taken as gospel truth. Crackpot theories about how George Soros or some other group of Illuminati have hijacked the Democratic Party and defeated “their Hillary” abound.

The possessiveness is rather creepy, our Hillary, my Sara, our Democratic Party. It is like these people or institutions were a birth-right; that only a select and happy few had full legal claim to these items. It assumes that only the small clique of readers that congregate here have the ultimate truth. Anyone who dares points out that there may be a flaw in this view is banished into the outer darkness. Screams of “boycott” or “terrorist” or just screams of shut up are hurled at anyone who is not singing the company song.

Many can’t even come to grips with the notion that the NQ case against Obama failed to move anyone who was not already deeply committed to it. There is an unquestioning faith in the sure “knowledge” that if the mythical American people only knew what NQ regulars knew, the unwashed masses would see the light. There is an oblivious and stubborn refusal to see the illogic in the arguments. “Obama is a Marxist, Socialist, Black Nationalist, Secret Muslim.” is a statement that falls apart from its own internal contradictions. It is absolutely impossible for the caricature of Obama that is drawn in this blog to exist in the real world. Not even Bond villains are as consistently evil ,despicable and duplicitous as the “traitor” Obama that lurks in the shadows of the fevered minds of N.Q. regulars. Ditto for all the concern trolling about Obama’s associations. The voters had a good look at Ayers and Wright and gave them and the other cast of “worrisome associations” a collective shrug. Again it was the inconsistency of what laid behind those “associations” or the friend of a friends, mother’s, cousins’ room-mate’s podiatrist nature of the links. Obama was a NOI, Marxist, Afro-Centrist, Socialist, terrorist, redistribution, Daley Machine Politician who was mobbed up and corrupt. The only thing that held these things together was the meme of fear. The central premise of NObama was clear but it was the stubborn, mindless, petulant no of a toddler. Rachel Maddow’s biggest sin was to point that out.

Apart from being highly insulting to the vast majority of the people who have posted above (who, unlike James of San Jose are intelligent and perceptive enough to recognize a biased hypocrite when they see one) Jame’s post is so full of devious logic and skewed perspective that it’s no wonder he identifies with the Beast With No Name. She was totally unbalanced in her coverage of the election. After the Biden-Palin debate you could see her facial muscles straining in her effort to crow that Biden had overwhelmingly trounced Palin, when any unbiased observer could have seen that Palin gave a very good account of herself and was more polished and straghtfoward than Biden. James writes: QUOTE “There is an oblivious and stubborn refusal to see the illogic in the arguments. “Obama is a Marxist, Socialist, Black Nationalist, Secret Muslim.” is a statement that falls apart from its own internal contradictions. It is absolutely impossible for the caricature of Obama that is drawn in this blog to exist in the real world. …” UNQUOTE The consistent message of all Obama opponents has been “Will the real Obama please stand up because your promises to different groups don’t add up.” The fact is, Obama DID have very real associations with some very shady characters and he lied about it.

Obviously Obama is worried that Hillary will steal his thunder on Universal Healthcare so he want to remove her from the equasion AND lets face it, without Hillary stumping for him over the past 2 months there would be no President Elect Obama. Obama is clearly not passing the Commander In Chief test…that’s why he is trying to bring Hillary into his fold and is meeting with Senator McCain Monday – evidently 52% of America bought Obamas BS but Obama like the rest of us did not.

Our diarist was quite crafty knowing the attention and discussion that would ensue just mentioning anyone from MSM but especially MSNBC . And one of the biggest Hillary bashers.

I didn’t view the video not interested but read the comments here and agree .

Bronwyns Harbor I’m sure you are not surprised by the responses but thank you none the less!

I’m also conflicted about Hillary being SOS. I have heard and read several reports about the possiblity and it’s curious no one questions her qualifications when the same people just a few months ago were saying the opposite. I would feel better about the future if she were in a position to keep things real (unlike Powell or Rice), but why should I believe he will listen to her? I will not watch MSNBC or CNN again, ever. Chris Mathews thinks he is going to “make this presidency successful” and I don’t know how anyone else interprets what he said, but to me it means he will not tell the truth about Obama if it is negative. We watch FOX now. We don’t have high expectations for them, but some of the shows have been remarkably “Fair and Balanced” this past year. Andrea Mitchell looked sick. She is probably envisioning going to the State Department and getting no answers to her questions. I won’t watch Meet the Press and Rachel Maddow is a traitor to her gender and everything the Democratic Party was supposed to stand for. I will grant NOQUARTER to any of these people.

I agree with author that MSNBC had more potent coverage on these issues than FOX. FOX seems to be trying to re-evaluate itself in light of Obama’s election. It wouldnt make much sense for them to continue in the same vein after the election, but I havent been really paying much attention – post election burn out on the media.
Maddox is naive when she talks about rhetoric from the Primary as being any real obstacle to Hillary accepting the nomination to SoS. In fact what Hillary pointed out in the Primary was true, so Obama would do well to select her. Kobuchar pointing out how the Clintons have worked so hard for Obama during the ge puts it all in much better perspective.
