Mr. John McCain would be one BIG ASS to accept any position on this guys admin. Throughout this past campaign, John has endured just one more episode after another, endless TORCHURE from the ONE and ONLY and if JOHN has any scruples left at all at his ripe old age of 72, HE should in my opinion, resoundingly DECLINE the offer on the grounds that he has NOTHING LEFT TO GIVE THIS GREAT COUNTRY! It is now LOST FOREVER and there is NO WAY OUT but DOWN! No checks and balances and a presumably ONE-WAY CONGRESS, who is to know just WHERE WE ARE ABOUT TO GO??? THANKYOU VERY MUCH JOHN McCAIN, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY HERO!

Comment by Annie | 2008-11-17 02:37:20

Not just that - but if McCain gives up his Senate seat to be a fall guy for Obama - guess who will be taking it - the Governor of Arizona is democrat Janet Napolitano. If she doesnt take the seat herself you can be darn sure she won’t put another republican in it.

Same thing with Hillary Clinton - though that already is a dem seat.

Mr. obama will do anything to control congress and the way he does that is get republican seats into the democratic fold…. the undemocratic fold, that is to say.

I’ll believe this when I see it happen. Just like the Michelle “Whitey” tape which never materialized…

The only problem is… notwithstanding Chicagoan’s “source,” the premise of his post defies belief. And it will quickly be proven bogus.

Comment by Hard Bop | 2008-11-17 01:19:44

Also, not to rain on Chicagoan’s parade, but Memeorandum is an auto-generated news aggregator. So Chicagoan’s post was linked to not by a human webmaster impressed with Chicagoan’s reporting… but by an algorithm impressed with the words “McCain” and “Obama.”

Comment by BJ | 2008-11-17 02:37:10

excellent to know that fact, thanks-

I don’t think that is the position either that Obama wants him for. I think McC is too old and too soft.

Rep Senator Chuck Hagel would be a good choice for him to consider imo.

I am amused how many past Clinton people he’s pulling on board now that he stole the election and nomination from a Clinton!

He has now chosen the attorney for Clinton during the impeachment proceedings, as his White House counsel.

this irks me to no end he’s stealing these ppl out from under Clinton to make himself look good.

wadda arrogant prick

He has now chosen the attorney for Clinton during the impeachment proceedings, as his White House counsel.

He will need him for the same purpose, no doubt.

No, Teak… I think the White House interns are gonna be safe for the next eight.

Chicagoan, well done on that.
As I did not see any attribution for you most recent post, I take it you have it first hand in some fashion…

We will see what the week brings. I will take a “stay tuned” approach, but I also think something else is going on here.

The pieces are not to clear as to what it is…but well done anway.

Golly gee, what position does the Obama HR Department have open for Sarah Palin? Hopefully not a thing. She deserves better than to be hooked up with this bit of hooey.

On a weekend when the G20 met and world leaders were working on eco. crisis solutions, the issue kept coming up that Obama was not attending….we get news about Hillary as his SoS and McCain as SoD. Nice job in deflecting attention away from the reality of his midget status when it comes to G20 leaders and int’l issues…

Comment by pal3 | 2008-11-17 01:30:18

I guess he’s going to tell the World Leaders…”call me if you need me.”

Is everyone here that bad at US History? Lincoln didn’t do anything that was a precedent, unless you ignore the First 50 years of the Nation’s formalization.

It was expected that the losing Presidential Candidate take up the Vice Presidential role as a sign of natural unity for the health of the United States of America.

How do you think Thomas Jefferson became the Vice President under John Adams?

George Washington had Thomas as his Secretary of State. Imagine that one-two combo, for just a moment.

Then imagine Jefferson as President and James Madison as the Vice President under Thomas Jefferson.

See how far we have fallen? Truly alarming.

Comment by Cinie | 2008-11-17 06:18:41

No he didn’t.
The Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery. Lincoln was dead. The Emancipation Proclamation only applied to Confederate states.

Well before you call others stupid (which many are), for your own ignorance sake, know that Obama is attempting to reference Doris Kearns Goodwin who happens to be a Lincoln expert, and her writings about Lincoln seeking out his competition (and opposers) and bring them into his cabinet, to work with them, in an attempt to bring some harmony and to accomplish something in his administration.

*BREAKING*
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe said Saturday that Congress was not told the truth about the bailout of the nation’s financial system and should take back what is left of the $700 billion “blank check” it gave the Bush administration.

“It is just outrageous that the American people don’t know that Congress doesn’t know how much money he (Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson) has given away to anyone,’‘ the Oklahoma Republican told the Tulsa World.

“It could be to his friends. It could be to anybody else. We don’t know. There is no way of knowing.”

I’m sure he has been speaking to Lincoln since he saw him at that rally a while back, which one was that again? The I see dead people one?

I’m sure when he is smoking crack, he calls old Abe up on the phone for advice. He asked Abe to be in his cabinet, but sadly, honest Abe had to tell him he was not able to join him at this time, it would interfere with the whole dead thing and all.

Comment by Margaret | 2008-11-17 11:28:52

did Lincoln cast a vote for Obama from a Chicago polling place?

Of course. As did all the dead Presidents. It is their duty, after all.

Seems a lot of questionable authors have shown up on this site as of late, sadly, imo. Dunno what’s going on but am waiting patiently for the orig site to come back to life. As for the congrats everyone keeps sending, the poster way above is correct, this is meme site is an automated site that picks up news stories on the net.

Comment by American Girl in Italy | 2008-11-17 06:37:51

is your life that bitter that you just can’t say Congrats to someone for having their story picked up? Is it really necessary to be such a pessimist about something like this? The story was picked up, that is cool.

As for some new writers, I know that there are some who have been attacked, and are writing under new names. Obamabots have attacked their personal lives, and they are trying to still maintain their right to write, without having their personal lives destroyed by Obamabots!

Anyway, Chicagoan - Nice job!

AGIT -

On Saturday I was talking to a guy who is visiting from Italy. He said there was a rally in Rome in support of 0bama’s victory. He said it was held by the Italian Communist Party, who has just changed their name to the “Democrat” party, since it seems to have worked so well for 0bama.

Comment by American Girl in Italy | 2008-11-17 08:23:52

figures… the guy who ran with the Change and Hope theme lost to Berlusconi. I love how Italians seem to love Obama so much, but yet they had Prodi, hated him, and voted Berlusconi back in.

Comment by Pennsylvania Red | 2008-11-17 08:56:36

I hope that is an omen of things to come!

I did find a link to that rally, there’s some real hopey changey commentary from the peeps who think obama is going to teach the world to sing…

Also I asked this fellow why Italians hate America. He said there is sentiment pro and con the United States, more pro America sentiment in Southern Italy because so many of them now have American relatives.
However he did tell me that anti-American sentiment is politically correct.

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-11-17 13:59:46

i never meet people who hate americans. many hate bush, but they love the people and what they know about america. they all want to go there, and visit. but, they are angry about the war. and they think we are energy hogs, and wasteful. but i don’t think they hate us.

Unless you are only 18 you, like me, have lived through several presidents; most of them Republicans. But I don’t remember any of them vacillating over their administration appointees like this.

First, we have rumors that the candidate known as Barack Obama, is now considering Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State and investigating her financial background even though she was his chief rival and he threw everything they could dig up against her in the primaries! And now Senator John McCain is being considered for Secretary of Defense although candidate Obama made it perfectly clear during the election campaign that McCain was “too old”, on his death bed, and he did not like either McCain or Clinton and scoffed at their ideas!

And, so “sources” tell us, this is because of Lincoln’s “…seeking out his competition (and opposers) and bring them into his cabinet, to work with them, in an attempt to bring some harmony and to accomplish something in his administration…”? Considering that the conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln included a coordinated attack on his VP, the Speaker of the House and others, history suggests that “keeping his enemies close” might not have been such a great idea since an assassination planned by friends is highly unlikely.

I don’t think those who are in charge of comparing Mr. Obama to our greatest and brightest presidents have chosen well. First was Reagan, ill with Alzheimers, and his no-one-is-really-in-charge administration; then the martyred JFK that no one has been able to seize his mantel no matter how hard they try to tear him down, and now Lincoln. Whose spoonfeeding baby Obama?

We never knew what he really believed, and what we were sure of made us uneasy; associations with terrorists - domestic and foreign, convicted criminals giving him money for a mansion, racist church affiliation, obscene amounts of untraceable cash flowing into his coffers, that mystical look when he spoke of “his” Muslim religion… not exactly the presidential “right stuff”. But, having gone through the 2000 election and seen the swift intervention by the Supreme Court to stop the Florida recount, it is mindboggling that two court cases that could have cleared up the mystery are still awaiting a Supreme Court decision. And that is the scariest thing of all and does bring back the ghosts of the Lincoln conspiracy cover up.

Comment by AnninCA | 2008-11-17 10:36:21

Congrats! And I agree, it was well-written.

I don’t believe McCain is going to be offered any cabinet post, however.

Comment by Margaret | 2008-11-17 11:30:32

Chicagoan,
Do ignore the bitter trolls. What a great accomplishment! Congratulations!

Comment by No-nonsense-Nancy | 2008-11-17 12:16:47

If Obama is indeed considering either Senator Clinton or Senator McCain for these posts I think it is only a ploy to get them out of the senate so that he can get more radical democrats in congress to push his radical agenda. We need to keep our moderates there for the protection of our country and also because he would probably get rid of them after a short time, anyway, and then they would really be out. I don’t feel for one minute that Obama is doing anything for the good of the country, only for the good of Obama and his corrupt friends. I don’t think he has any good intentions for these very patiotic and respected legislators.
