AIG management spent $400k for a weekend at a luxury spa. The excuse they gave? They were under stress as a result of the failure of the company. After they received their second handout from congress, they went again. The second excuse? They had to wine and dine clients for the sake of their failed company. When gas was selling for $4/gal, GM was still advertising Hummers, Ford advertising Expeditions and Chrysler advertising Navigators. Meanwhile, Toyota, Honda and Subaru were advertising hybrids and small cars with good gas mileage. Before the peasants chopped her head off, Marie Antoinette said, "Let the eat cake".

POdVet your *rant* was so good. I believe we can make a difference. There is an idea nagging at me for months and makes me wonder if I did all that I could to inform voters before the election. We have a printer and I kept thinking I could create a flyer to pass out in front of a grocery store or put under the windshields of cars with some verifiable facts about Obama the media wasn't reporting. There could be some local media attention from something like that to help get the word out. I am shy and I hate to think there was something else I could have done and didn't for that reason.

Although I disagree with you about Bill Clinton, I am asking you to please not drop out. We have the power to reclaim our country. If we can get to the point where we will not accept the divisiveness deliberately created by the politicians and respect our differences while uniting against abuses by both parties, we can bring our own brand of change to Washington.

I totally agree with you pissed off vet. We tried our best to educate those who voted for Obama, but their eyes and ears remained closed, they still are.
Until Obama runs our country and our Constitution into the ground (And he will) they will not listen.
His actions should have been a red flag to all Americans, yet not even a majority of us wanted to know more than just the fluff the MSM was passing off as news.
His associates alone should have been enough to prevent him from getting the endorsement of the DNC, who by the way should have never endorsed anyone.
This election was an inside job that started years ago, right down to the acceptance speech being on the anniversary of ML King's I have a dream speech. How obvious.
We have to live with that greased pig for four years, those ignorant voters did this to us, had they bothered to educate themselves they never would have done this to our country.
I can only hope and pray that Hillary is still here to pick up the pieces after yet another failed administration.

Others here have hit on some of these points, but here goes:

What has happened to our country?

1) The new media (cable news, talk radio, blogs & the internet, exploded into a 24/7, multi-channel news cycle that fed the public’s paranoia, its desire to be titillated by “reality” drama, then fed off of the individual’s sense of isolation until it had created a nation of semi-literate news propaganda junkies and “American Idol” fans.

2) Both of the major political parties saw this political “market” and decided to exploit it by hyping “hot button” issues that were emotional, irrational, and peripheral.

3) Both sides of the political spectrum (although the left was far more successful than the right) injected extreme, radical partisan politics into the educational system, especially into higher education. They both radicalized the younger generations of Americans and dumbed them down by discouraging the transferal of hard knowledge of civics, and by teaching revisionist versions (old revision or new, equally monolithic and incorrect) of history.

4) The result of this was a populace ripe and ready to accept the “cult of personality” type of politics.

5) The professional political elite, i.e., old political families, career politicians, and old PACs/influence groups, used these factors to tighten their grip on the political system and, indeed, on political discourse itself, thus strangling or squeezing out new ideas and new people. At this point, their control of the system is almost complete.

6) Finally, the “New Democrats” of today stole (and added to) the playbook from the “New Republicans” of the 90s, who had in turn stolen it from the “Old Democrats” of an earlier generation/generations, and in turn ... well, you get the idea.

“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”

Others have said this on this site: we need a plan. Boycotting is a start. I think we need to get organized. We need to do some brainstorming and figure out some solid solutions that will make a difference. I also hope the lawsuits against Barry will gain some traction, but I have little hope. If you're interested in brainstorming some solutions contact me at alsnickers@yahoo.com

I am discouraged as well. This article accurately reflects my feelings as well. Huge feelings of helplessness and disenfranchisement. I watched strong supporters of Hillary who were angry during the primaries, completely switch over to support The One. Bought with the new coin of the realm Hope and Change. Would it help to have a peaceful demonstration? A peaceful walk to the White House waving flags and protesting? I don't know any more. I'm just depressed.

I'm with you! I think the corrupt media, driving their own weird agenda, and foregoing all principles of journalism is the root of all the problems we face today. They pushed Bush, they pushed the Iraq war, they fairly hogtied Clinton during his presidency and then let up on him after he was out. We've stopped watching them in our house. They're not worthy of our time or support.

So, to say Clinton was impeached because he lied is rediculous.

Is it really? You can't be impeached for a blow job. You CAN be impeached for lying under oath, which is what he did. Sorry, but it's simply the truth.

The folks who think the disagreement is or ever was about "skin tone" have had it all wrong all along. The larger issue that lies underneath this is perceived "colonialism" masquerading as "skin tone" issues. In other words, the anger is more over the imposition of American values to the rest of the world. Not by force, but by influence, by marketing of products and by the media. We aren't going away, and neither is our way of life without a fight... so these guys will be perpetually at war with us... until they either win or are annihilated. Obama can't change human nature. And he can't put salve on a problem that is mis-identified.

It's truly a pity that the Enquirer were more curious about John Edwards' tryst and Sarah Palin's wardrobe than they were about Barack Obama's curious collection of "admirers."
