I’m with you–she knows what she’s doing, and let me ask those that are skeptical a question: how safe would you feel with a Secretary of State Bill (Judas) Richardson at the helm? I’d sleep much better at night knowing HRC is handling matters of state.

But if you look at the Monarch and his family and how it impacted Great Britain during WWII, you would realize that whether it’s a figurehead position so to speak, or not the throne also carries a lot of responsibilities. Report: Records search on Joe the Plumber improper

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) – An agency director improperly used state computers to find personal information on “Joe the Plumber,” a government watchdog said in a report released Thursday.
There was no legitimate business purpose for the head of Ohio’s Department of Job and Family Services to order staff to look up the records, Inspector General Tom Charles said.
Investigators weren’t able to determine whether the searches were politically motivated, the report said.
“All these searches were done in the midst of a national political campaign,” the report said. “But we did not find any evidence that shows the data was accessed or information released in response to media requests in an effort to support any political activity or agenda.”
The agency director, Helen Jones-Kelley, was placed on leave this month over separate allegations that a state computer or state e-mail account was used to assist in political fundraising for Democrat Barack Obama’s campaign.
The inspector general’s report concluded that she improperly used state e-mail to engage in political activity.
The report looked into 18 background checks into Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, a Toledo-area man known as Joe the Plumber. He became a household name in the final weeks of the presidential campaign after asking Obama about his tax plan at a campaign stop near Toledo.
Eight of the checks were done without any legitimate business purpose, the report said. Charles recommended tighter policies on access to confidential information in state computer databases.
The findings have been forwarded to the Franklin County prosecutor’s office in Columbus.
There was no home telephone listing for Jones-Kelley in Columbus.
Jones-Kelley has said the search of Wurzelbacher’s records were part of routine checks her agency conducts when someone suddenly emerges in the limelight.
She told state Senate President Bill Harris in a letter that records were checked because Wurzelbacher had indicated he might buy a business and it was determined he that owed back taxes. The department wanted to make sure appropriate actions were taken if he owed child support, received public assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.
Jones-Kelley’s reasoning was at times contradictory, inconsistent and ambiguous, the inspector general’s report said.
It also found no policies or procedures to support her claim that it was the agency’s practice to look into someone thrust in the spotlight.
As Wurzelbacher’s profile was elevated in Republican John McCain’s campaign, criticism over the Ohio search rose to a fever pitch.
Republicans were furious that Wurzelbacher was targeted, saying that he was simply a private citizen who stood up and questioned the Democratic presidential candidate.

Many many people ponder buying a business who can barely afford to support themselves. Isnt that the American dream for many people to have their own business. So Joe expressed his dream in other terms and got slandered for it.

But I am still very conflicted in Hillary having to help the O-shit! and make his presidency more successful than it otherwise be without her help, when they constantly keep sh!tting on her. BUT, by no means does she NEED it and no way should Bill and Hillary give anymore than they have been or agreed to do. The fact that O-shit! wants so much limitations on Bill and control on his future efforts is just outrageous, so in that case, I say, walk away. If O-shit! curbs his ego long enough to make a smart choice and drop the idiocy, that’s another point.
And not a surprise that “most Americans” support Hillary as SOS. Most Americans supported Hillary for President and Vice President too and look where we are.
And side note. Why is it the market starts working on it’s own and then they talk bailout and it drops again.
Reports that it seemed unlikely that there would be a bailout today and the stock market rose over 100 pts. Then “Anonymous” Senators come out with “we have a secret deal” 2 Dems and 2 Repbs and the market drops.
Then Democrats come out with they really want a deal and they are going to ask for spending plans. AND THEN THE MARKET CRASHES 400 more pts.

American automakers are begging for a bailout. And they have a significant amount of money headed their way. A $25 billion loan was approved by Congress in September.
This money was designed to help the auto companies retool for the manufacture of fuel-efficient vehicles. These are vehicles that Americans want and need now more than ever.
Now the automakers are asking to use that money for short-term cash flow needs. In other words, at the brink of bankruptcy, the automakers are still resisting technological change and wishing for business as usual. GM CEO Rick Wagoner admits his company is burning through “$5 billion each month.” How does GM expect to repay taxpayers, and compete in tomorrow’s showrooms, without undergoing change?
Congress is back in session today, Thursday. They may retain the existing fuel-efficiency provisions, or could decide to give the automakers the $25 billion with no strings attached.
Congress doesn’t want to risk being blamed for “letting the carmakers go under”, and so may drop the fuel-efficiency requirements. They need to hear from us that we support keeping the requirements in place. They need to understand we want our American automakers to gear up for the cars of the future.

Ted’s legacy will forever be CHAPPAQUIDDICK.
I think it would be a mistake for Hillary to become SOS. She will be forced to work for Obama, and he will relegate her to the ceremonial, while he does the substantive negotiations internationally. She is being asked to go there in order to keep her powerless and unable to run against him in 2012.
She would stand a great chance of becoming Majority Leader, in that Reid is WEAK and ineffective. From there is is a logical jump from Congressional oversight / counterbalance to candidate. Besides, she can continue in the Senate and allow Bill to raise money to retire her debts, etc. Otherwise, Bill’s fund raising and speechifying efforts would have to end, as gets a considerable percentage of his money from Middle Eastern Arab nations, many of whom have awkward relationships (at best) with the US.

Give it up it won’t work. The pardons, Elan, etc. Holder is a top notch person who served his country well. Janet Reno was right about Elan. The boy would not have had to be taken by gunpoint if the distant Castro hating relatives had given him up.

agree. Bad move for Hillary. I would personally prefer to have her independent of Obama, to serve as a very real check on his policy excesses, which are surely likely to come. She is the only politician in the US right now who is capable of mounting an offensive against Obama in the press. Whether she may need or want to is an open question, but I would feel better with the Clinton’s at least in position to do something if the situation warranted.

It infuriates me that the Clinton’s continue to get blamed for every misstep in the Obama camp. I don’t get why all the media is saying the Clinton’s leaked out Hillary being considered for SoS when the name of every adviser and cabinet position being chosen so far has been leaked to the press days before the name has been announced as fact. Did the Clinton camp leak all those names too?
Well we all know MSNBC is against the appointment.
I can’t help but wonder if all of the negative comments from the MSM are based on their own ratings fears. As SoS, it might be hard to lure her onto their-mean spirited little programs making them less relevant in the news arena. You know the level of self interest and self promotion that exists out there in big ego land. They probably want someone they can intimidate a little bit and we all know that is not how Hillary will conduct herself if she decides to go forward with the new position.
I thought of that briefly at one time too, but in fact they love trashing the Clinton’s, so they should love her appt so they can trash her daily.

I can just see John Kerry standing in the shadows whispering in Ted Kennedy’s ear. And what is Obama going to do with Bill Richardson? Goodness, so much talent, so few positions. I think Janet Napolitano would make a good Secretary of Homeland Security, but that would leave Arizona State government to the wolves.
My understanding is that Janet Napolitano was in charge of his internet donations. If this is true, then she’s corrupt imo and it angers me to see her in any leading position.
I don’t know about her being in charge of Obama’s internet donations, but she is a former US Attorney and Attorney General for the State of Arizona. She was respected with never a hint of scandal. I can’t imagine her being involved in any kind of corruption.

About the falling Dow, I know a few people with their own businesses(restaurants,landscaping etc) who have always made a good living. They are going through some lean times right now and are scared to death of BO and his tax plan in the WH. Remember 80%of small business CEO’s and owners supported McCain. These business employ 20 or less people but with enough of them going under that could also spell disaster. The stock market is reacting in part to the realization that the economic system as we have known it will soon be only a memory. I think HRC is a great politician and woman but I think with the way MSNBC and CNN are playing this non-stop that they’re in cahoots with BO and his gang. Who knows what they are up to. One thing I’ve learned since last January is I don’t trust BO, his people or the mainstream media–I haven’t bought a newspaper, magazine or watched network or cable television(except for Greta Van Sustern) since this whole nightmare began.
I know; it’s surreal, isn’t it.

I didn’t take Kennedy’s proposal that way at all. He’s simply given Hillary a very credible, graceful, and politically useful way out, if she should decide for some reason that it’s best to decline the SoS position. It isn’t pressuring; it’s an available option.
IMHO, Mrs. Clinton would make a fine Sec State. The hard part for her would be to remain on the same page as the President.
She would be great but she’d be better off working in private industry, though, if she has to work for someone of lesser capability. At least there she’d get paid for giving the boss all his ideas.

I am bothered by the giddiness of some Clinton Democrats here about the prospect of having Hillary accept the Secretary of State post. Let me remind you of the following:
1. Hillary will unnecessarily let go of her political power by accepting this post.
Hillary got the most number of votes in the primaries. She is still the most popular Democrat. Why are we so excited with the prospect of stripping her of every political capital she has rightly earned because of this by accepting a very restricting role? As Secretary of State, she will not be able to campaign for others, she cannot raise funds for other candidates and she cannot build her coalition. She will not be able to do anything except that which Obama will allow her to. Is this the straight-jacket that you want her to wear?
2. Hillary will not be more effective as Secretary of State than she will be as an independent senator.
As Secretary of State, she will effectively relinquish any independence she enjoys and will simply become the mouthpiece of Obama. We don’t know who Obama really is. What we know of him is scary. Why should we be happy with having Hillary become straighjacketed with her post. As Senator, she can influence policy in a bigger way because of her political power and because of her independence. As Secretary of State, she may be asked to defend policies that she doesn’t agree with and sell it to a dubious public and get the flak for it but not the credit if anything goes well. Witness Condi Rice and Collin Powell.
3. Hillary will lose security of tenure if she becomes Secretary of State.
As Senator, she has all the tenure in the world. She can carry her position for so long as she wants it. If she relinquishes her post now, it may not be possible to get it back as a new Democrat Senator might take her place. As Secretary of State, she can be replaced at any time by the Obama camp for any reason. Again, why are some Clinton Democrats excited over this prospect?

From Uppity’s piece earlier, it would seem that if Clinton does take that position, Obama the Micromanager will want to oversiew ALL of President Clinton’s speeches. Presumably, if he can review them, he can also censor them. WTH???
WHAT other president has had to put up with the kind of crapola Bill has at the hands of Obama?? That alone is reason enough for Hillary to tell him to take that job and shove it. Pres. Clinton does not need to have his international speeches, for his FOUNDATION, held up to scrutiny by Obama. I bet they would come back looking like Valerie Plame’s book (i.e., redacted). Just sayin’.

These are all domestic, and are where she has focused and exceled through out her career.
Certainly she could handle the world stage, but it would be entirely different from her previous endeavors…and God knows SOMEONE should work for the American people for a change!
I will support Hillary in whatever decision she makes. However, I think it would be a VERY serious mistake for her to accept SoS.
Yes, she would be an excellent SoS. However, this would be irreparably damaging to her political career and legacy.
Let’s be blunt; wishing and praying that Obama’s presidency is a success will not make it so. Obama is nothing better than a Chicago politician. We’re already witnessing the same cronyism that was a staple of the Bush administration.
Obama at best will be a one termer and anyone associated with his administration can kiss their political aspirations goodbye.

The Constitution doesn’t say you need a birth certificate. Birth certificates didn’t get widely used until 1946. George Washington didn’t have a birth certificate. Ronald Reagan didn’t have a birth certificate. yep, that’s what Obama’s lawyers will say.
The Constitution doesn’t “say” anything. You are correct, however, that it does not “state” a requirement for a birth certificate. But then, the Constitution does not address anything about education, either, but we have it. Your argument is ultimately irrelevant. So if you agree there is a requirement in Article II, (if you’re at all literate, you will agree there is one) then how does one enforce such a requirement?

As I pointed out last night, thank god the SCOTUS don’t give a rat’s ass what bloggers think. If I was Opampers, I would be very concerned the SCOTUS may choose to exert itself to demonstrate they are still highly relevant and the keepers of the flame of the USC. Clearly Opampers and his followers hold our most sacred and esteemed document in disdain and contempt.
I’m in agreement, Galt. I doubt this issue has been resolved in the slightest. That One (TM) had an opportunity to put all this to rest simply by giving the court a certified copy. Why all the lawyers and obfuscation? Something is quite rotten here and it reeks.
If Hillary is in the Obama administration, I wonder if Obama will bring Bill Richardson in, too. (in any capacity)- Obama owes him, but what an uncomfortable situation that would create. My guess: Richardson gets nothing for his support of Obama, which would serve him right.
Richardson might end up at Interior, Commerce, Transportation or HUD.

Hillary should stay in the Senate-where she still has a bright future. The Obamas and the Clintons hate each other-how hard is it predict the end of this tedious story if she gives him a chance to end it on his terms.
Additionally I’m a great believer in looking at the obvious. Obama obviously is not interested in helping the Clintons so why is he giving Hillary a plum position? He must desperately want her out of the Senate. If he is so scared of her being there then her power there must be even greater than people know. Stay Hillary stay!

Hilarity, and broken teeth, result as the two dumbest mofos on the face of the earth square off, in the process destroying BOTH their bases, but also touching lives, as brave American men and women are affected in this battle of the oh, witless kooks.
I will bill it as the biggest clandestine operation since “Charlie Wilson’s War” or something of the sort, a sort of Rambo for the smart set, where US world strategic dominance is achieved through intelligence, unquestionably, defeating the reds, and their dirty commie corporate American benefactors.
Or something like that .
