“i don’t think the way to the presidency is a short stop in the senate”

OK, so I read this article on politico, about Sarah Palin, and whether she will run for Senator in Alaska. The current Senator in Alaska, Lisa Murkowski “has some Republican-to-Republican advice for Gov. Sarah Palin: If you want to make a run at the White House, keep your hands off my Senate seat.”

The article goes on to say, “Murkowski, up for reelection in 2010, is nervously awaiting word on whether John McCain’s former running mate will run against her in the GOP primary. But she says Palin is the one who should be nervous.

“I can guarantee it would be a very tough election,” Murkowski said in an interview.

Palin is also up for reelection in 2010. She could run for a second term as governor, but the Senate holds some obvious attractions: a national platform, and with it the chance to beef up a thin résumé and rebuild damaged credibility on foreign policy and other issues.

But Murkowski says a run against her would be fraught with risk. If Palin lost, her stock would drop just ahead of a potential 2012 presidential run. And if she won, she’d be a backbencher in a chamber that is dominated by seniority — (But these next comments are the ones that really stands out to me,) and would have to begin her presidential campaign as soon as she took office.”

“If she wants to be president, I don’t think the way to the presidency is a short stop in the United States Senate,” Murkowski said.

And then nothing more about those comments in the politico article. The writer ignores the obvious? It is just screaming out at me…

Then, this morning, Andrea Mitchell was on Morning Joe, and she was discussing the possibility of Palin running for Senate. While she was speaking a graphic comes on the screen, and says “If she wants to be president, I don’t think the way to the presidency is a short stop in the United States Senate.”

So, HERE it comes, I think to myself! Surely Andrea, or Mika or JOE will point out the obvious! I wait…and what happens? Andrea completely IGNORES the quote from Murkowski, completely ignores the quote that was in the graphic, completely ignores the obvious. So, what DOES Andrea do? She brings up that the RNC paid an additional $30,000 in accessories for Palin during the campaign.

Are you kidding me?

She completely ignores the story at hand, (which I will get to) and again DUMPS on Palin and this stupid wardrobe-gate. Good lord… Get over it Andrea! Our ability to accessorize is what separates us from the animals, for crying out loud. Can we pleeeeeeeeease get over the Palin wardrobe *scandal* and move on? This has been covered to death. Obama spent $7 Million on a one time faux White House Greek God temple monstrosity. The RNC spent $180,000 on clothes and accessorizes for Palin and her entire family. (and they looked fabulous!) This just makes Andrea look so ridiculous. Ugh, journalists!

Anyhoo, my POINT to this story is the blaringly obvious irony as stated by Murkowski, that went completely ignored by the media. And I know the smart readers of this blog know what I am talking about.

“If she wants to be president, I don’t think the way to the presidency is a short stop in the United States Senate.”

Uhm, and why not? It worked for Obama. Remember, Obama was in the Senate for two years when he announced his run for President, having served only 144 days. Remember this:

So, why did Andrea completely ignore this point, when the graphic came up? Why do those in the media ignore these little things? (rhetorical question) Would it have killed anyone to point out the obvious, that it worked for Obama? Mitchell completely ignores the obvious, but instead takes the opportunity to twist the knife just a little more.

Here we had a political story, involving two accomplished women, a Senator and a Governor, and they were discussing their political futures, and what does Andrea Mitchell do? Brings up Palin’s clothes! UGH UGH UGH!!! I am surprised she didn’t start talking about PMS and nail polish, too.

Anyway, having witnessed an Obama win, with him having served only 144 days in the Senate, I would think Palin’s years as mayor, and governor, and two years as a Senator would be more than enough experience to run for President. (and a much more interesting and relevant, and informative news story then the price of her accessorize.)

And, as far as Murkowski, and her comments, if Sarah Palin is anything like me, she will run, because when someone *tells* me I can’t do something, I usually do it.

When I heard Sarah was going to GA to campaign for Chambliss, I wondered if there is anyone acting as her political advisor since she’s obviously elevated to a national level? Or, is she using her gut political instinct to determine who to campaign for, who to align with, how to be “out there” enough, but avoid over-exposure?

She seems to have a sharp instinct so perhaps for a short time, she’s better off on her own.

Comment by nancysabet | 2008-12-06 15:36:22

The difference between Palin with one stop in senate is that she has 4 years of being governor…what obama brought?? Also she is not a crook, she has worked hard to get where she is, unlike obama and his chicago’s corrupt machine.

Comment by SaraFan | 2008-12-06 17:41:01

Sarah is the embodiment of good Christian American values. She is anti Homo, anti killing babies and loves Jesus. That alone makes her qualified for the presidency. Whatever is the best way for her to get there, I hope is granted so she can run the liberal scum out of Washington and bring this country back to Jesus.

Comment by TexANNE | 2008-12-06 20:16:46

I prefer to think of Sarah in another way than you just stated, because, though you may like what you said, it will get her nowhere politically in our country, so please help her…she supports women, she supports help for children with disabilities, she is for freedom of religion, for adhering to our constitution, and for civil liberties for ALL citizens of our country.

When you mark her with the things you said she was against, she will never get elected outside of Alaska, and she deserves better, because as a state governor, she is not the things you have labeled her as being.

Best for you to put the Bible down for a minute and go read our Constitution for qualifications for the presidency before making statement like yours.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-12-06 22:37:34

Ditto on the Sarah Palin remarks. With friends like this, she needs no enemies. I don’t agree with Palin on a number of issues, but I do admire her grit and determination. And her personal story. But Bible thumping is the last thing she needs for a credible national career.

To be honest? She’s becoming the Republican version of Hillary Clinton. They’re lightyears apart politically and Sarah has miles to go to match HRC’s experience. But both are strong, female powerhouses and because of that everyone wants to take a potshot, warrented or not.

Palin’s definitely someone to keep an eye on. My guess is she’ll be on the political scene for a good, long while.

But please, anti-Homo, anti-abortion and Jesus loving, are not and never will be qualifications for POTUS. Not in the dimension we’re presently inhabiting, at least.

Thank God for Sarah’s chutzpah and determination to do whatever her heart and soul tells her.–She snubbed old Oprah with her stupid show, and now she’ll do the same with old Murkowski. Heck, she beat her husband ( Murkowski), she’ll beat the wife too, if she so chooses. Sarah has the panache and the starpower, she illuminates everything, and when she helped Saxby Chambliss win the election, the huge crowd at the Gwinnett Auditorium went wild for her. –Of course Andrea Mitchell, beeing a MSNBC Hack, would only blab about the clothes, thats about all her little pea brain is capable of….. Twitter, Twitter….

I meant to also say that many of us ought to write to Andrea and Morning Joe to remind them of Obama’s hop, skip and jump over the Senate and ask why they did not report on the similar paths of Sarah and BO.

Mind boggling, ain’t it? That a woman could diss another woman so blatantly still sickens me, a woman who is grounded in the American work ethic and recordable experience like Hillary and Sarah.

BHO, the fraud puppet, had an army of puppeteers grooming him for at least 6 years, along with a billion dollars in legal and illegal campaign money during his “career” to date, as well as a cheating DNC, caucus fraud, fascist MSM and anti-American cabal to steal an election. He had to have his own party steal the nomination for him.

Sarah, OTH, with her AMERICAN life and lifestyle, and proven experience just like Hillary, has these male and female misogynists running scared enough to attack non-issues like wardrobe–a typical way to demean women. Thank goodness more of us are speaking up about these double standards.

Can we keep the disgusting CNN AC360 piece re BO’s staff’s degradation of Hillary’s likeness up front here too? I was totally shocked as I accidentally channel-flicked into CNN to see Crowley, Gergan, AC, and Bash all turning pink giggling punning and making sexist jokes about this ‘non-story’ as they ran the pics for an excessively long period of time. While granting privacy to the BO staffers involved, no less.

It seems to me that the out-of-control misogyny that surfaced and defined the primaries and the general election continue absolutely unabated re both Palin and Hillary — I guess in a sort of 21st century version of the antiwitchcraft movement or something. It just feels like the msm is not going to be happy until they have eradicated every women politician with real ability from the scene.

Saw this story on the late night local news. They prefaced the photos with “Obama and Clinton are both embarrassed by Obama’s staff’s photo”.

What? Why should Clinton be embarrassed that an immature idiot thought his actions were funny and photo worthy?

Nice way to avoid having Obama take responsibility for anything yet again… Claiming Clinton should be equally as embarrassed.

And it was a woman anchor making the comments.

Sorry for the OT, but it’s hard to hold in that
Princess Caroline Kennedy expects to be appointed to the
NY Senate seat vacated by Clinton.

A friend had this to say:

With all due respect to Caroline Kennedy’s wealth, privilege
and unearned celebrity. She doesn’t even reside in NY.

Why is the NY senate seat a bon-bon for a dowager who
played it safe, never held a job, and now expects NY to fall
all over itself to give meaning to her life?

Her appointment will send a clear message to NY children:
America is a monarchy.
Work hard all your life, and grovel to royalty.

I thought she lived with her family out on long island somewhere?

But I totally agree — another example of how the wife-on-arm/committed mommie model of female seems to be much more palatable to the male power structure than anyone like Hillary or Palin.

CKennedy really made herself into just about the closest thing I have seen to a stepford wife in the 20th century; hate to think what this means for the 21st century.

This so reminds me of why male legal culture decided to grant legal personhood to business corporations — they are much easier to control than women, always do what the majority shareholders say, no matter how awful it is; don’t talk back; actually have ‘hearts and minds’ that are composed of the brains and morals of the men who formed them,….

Yetch.

Comment by John House | 2008-12-06 14:52:47

Actually, I bought a copy of the Constitution at Long’s the other day. What struck me most is that the rules for appointing Senators is thus: Senators are appointed by the Legislature and must not reside in the state they’re appointed to.

Say what???

Yeah, I don’t know when those rules stopped being applied, but maybe these governmental tards are just going back to the original rules? :D?

Hillary’s seat will be vacant. She would not have run until 2010. The N. Y. Governor therefore appoints a replacement for the rest of the term. The seat is then filled by election.

Agree. Don’t run for the Senate. Travel, learn, work for your state, work for the party and other candidates, work for groups like the Down’s Syndrome foundations or March of Dimes, continue to network with people and organizations. Don’t waste the better part of a year campaigning and worrying about raising money for that race. Start your own PAC if you don’t already have it.

I guess I’m just worried that the BO gang wants to turn CK into a female BO — short turn in the senate, and a pre-arranged fixed primary and general election. Complete with lots of funny money. And a move designed to shut both Hillary and Palin out again.

Don’t forget, the plans re 2008 were developed sometime between the day Daley dropped that challenge to the election in Fl. courts and 2004. So somebody is already hard at work on the next wave.

Comment by jbjd | 2008-12-06 12:31:50

Kal, some of us are focused on keeping BO out of the White House. After that, we will revise state laws so as to prevent the DNC from operating as a government sub-contractor for the purpose of vetting the name of the candidate whose currently is entitled by state law to appear on the general election ballot.

Comment by TexANNE | 2008-12-06 21:31:55

And you are not alone. If we fail, revising those state laws and enforcing them is our only gate to protect our Constitution from further damage.

Rumor is that Caroline Kennedy is considering seeking the New York Senate seat that Sec/State Hillary Clinton will be vacating in January. Hmm…

But, here’s the best quote of the day. Gotta love it!

Obama’s liberal coalition has served its purpose - to get him elected - and will be replaced by those who will also serve their purpose - to keep him there. That’s the way politics is these days. The tone and the target of the 2012 election will be strikingly different as Obama goes after his new constituency. If you don’t like it, next time find out what your candidate means when he talks of “change.”

Not to mention how insulting it would be to put one of the Kennedy’s who backed Obama into Hillary Clinton’s seat in a State that overwhelmingly supported Hillary. Most significantly, as others have mentioned, what has Caroline Kennedy ever done to merit this, other than support Obama? She has very carefully kept herself out of anything political her entire life.

Sorry for the OT whine.

Me too. Gov. Palin will get her chance.
About the clothes thing. That is such a major distraction. Everyone knows that the RNC had to do that because Gov Palin got a call from Mac to fly to Arizona to discuss VP position. She hopped on the plane to Arizona and got the job, but was immediately shipped to Ohio to stump for Mac.
What the RNC spends their money on is their business. The clothes thing is petty. They owe Gov Palin alot more than just those clothes. Gov Palin brought the base out and she worked hard for Mac. She energized the R party.
Allllllll summer, OBOTS were crying for Obama to pick Gov Palin or Pawlenty..yup Democrat Obots beating the “Pick Palin or Pawlenty” mantra to death during the summer. I remember being stunned over Dems wanting Repubs on their ticket. But at that point I realized we are not dealing with normal voters. Check out some archives around the weblogs from June, July and August. Weird.
But hey, someone needs to call the MSM out on their BS. This double standard for whites and blacks has to be brought out. Nobama would not have gotten past NH with his resume if he were white. He’s an affirmative action lazy assed punk.
Oh and HILLARY, I changed my mind…KEEP YOUR SENATE SEAT. Obama is not an honorable man so don’t go joining his team. He is out to get your legacy and has been for quite sometime..there’s the door Hill, slip out the back Hill, make a new plan Hill, don’t need to be coy Hill, just listen to me. Sen. Clinton’s suits were loaned to her by her favorite designer and valued at $6,000+ each. She also employed a make-up artist and hair stylist to be
on call.
The MSM and obots make a big deal about the RNC paying for Gov. Palin’s clothing, hair, and make-up.
The east and west coast designers did not even offer to loan Gov. Palin their designs.
Enough about her clothes.
She shouldn’t listen to what any of the liberal pols or talking heads say about her political plans. The Dems are trying to set up their next presidential candidate and psych out the Repubs for 2012 or 2016.
Frankly, if the Dems keep screwing up and fail to achieve some order out of the chaos we are faced with, they don’t stand a chance in 2010 or 2012.

But, even though she does have brains, she has deliberately used them to position herself on the right wing of any concept of ‘democrat.’ Her book on the bill of rights is just about as neutral on everything you can get and still put it between two covers, and her book on privacy reveals total lack of awareness of the politics of privacy, where it came from, and how it really ought to operate. Lackluster does not begin to describe it. Education sounds like the perfect focus for someone who has carefully avoided taking a substantive position on anything relating to gender, class, disability, sexuality, or race, or engaging with any live issues. She is all about memorializing and romanticizing, not that I blame her — but she would turn Hillary’s senate seat into a big fat ‘O.’

One thing that has always struck me about the wardrobe money is that it implies that Sarah is obsessed about her clothing, i.e., it’s an accusation of vanity, and self-serving greed. If she had not gotten appropriate clothing for the world stage of presidential politics, they would have ripped her apart for wearing “Goodwill Store clothing.”

No doubt about it, it’s the old double standard at work. They made fun of Hillary’s pantsuits. Did anyone make disparaging remarks about Obama’s or McCain’s suits? No, because “every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp-dressed man.” Most men don’t care that much about clothing, so it wasn’t an issue for male voters. But many men are irritated about how much their wives spend on clothing, so that’s a hot button.

Another sexist ploy at work that got little attention: both McCain and John Kerry in 2004 took heat for being married to wealthy women. So the implication there was that they either married for money (gigolo image), or that they were weak men (not the breadwinners).

Very perceptive observations, Steve.

Not only that, but its classist too. Nobody ever says anything about all the candidates who are swimming in money already having grossly expensive wardrobes to campaign in, nor about how much they no doubt actually spend once they do start campaigning. This whole thing has a not-so-subtle tinge of ‘it isn’t her money’ golddiggerism that is reserved for women woven into it. If Palin already had a lot of expensive clothes, this would have been a non-issue, she just needed clean duds asap. I rather suspect that if anyone wanted to examine the campaign accounts of the BOs, the Bidens, etc., they would find lots of disgusting OTT personal spending as well as the faux greek columns etc.

This is classist sexism, and that is definitely designed to keep Palin out of serious national politics.

PUMA!!

God- I really hope that Caroline Kennedy, Uncle Ted and the DNC read that headline. Of course, it would be hard to convince them after their recent success doing just that.

Thanks Sara! Great article. We need to keep hammering away at the msm; all of their lies misogyny, and just general buffoonery. Every stupid ass thing they do, like this one, needs to be scrutinized by as many people as possible. That’s the only way we’ll ever get any change.

On another tack, does anyone remember the email address for the prez of Gen Elec? Or the Prez of msnbo? Thanks.

Here’s another obvious ignored point: how many governors have been elected President? the last two?

Let’s hope Governor Sarah Palin is wise enought to seek re-election as governor instead of reducing her leadership potential with a US Senate run only two years before the next presidential election in 2012.

I agree with Al… Sarah has to remain as Governor of Alaska and run again in 2010. She is a popular governor who works hard for her state of Alaska. She can run for President in 8 years. Meantime she can work hard for Alaska - get up to date on International affairs and help the Republicans retain and get their seats in 2010… forget coat tales - she has long tracks from that ski machine…

I totally agree.STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE SENATE. Full of corruption and greed over there. Look at all those buffoons in the senate. I don’t want Sarah getting corrupted by all those evil crooks up there. She should run for re-election as Governor in 2010, and see where life takes her. The only problem is the person running against her as governor, lets say they ask her “Will you promise to remain governor for your entire term” if she says yes, she can’t run for president in 2012 because she would look like a hypocrite, if she says no, she will lose the election because people don’t want to have to worry about her bailing on them at any time to run for President. So it’s a double-edged sword. Sarah definitely needs some foreign policy experience, I have read that many foreign nations want to talk to her, including Tzipi Livni, the new prime minister of Israel, I think that would be great, she can talk woman to woman about how life is in the international spotlight plus learn more about the middle east. A Palin/jindal ticket would kick Obama’s ass, especially since we all know that he is gonna screw up the country in 4 years. That is why the media is trashing her now, they fear she will run in 4 years. She doesn’t need the senate, most of our Presidents have NOT been Senators. Senate doesn’t always make you presidential material.

I would hope Gov. Palin stays in the executive branch of gov. To me if Gov. Palin were to make the move to the legislative branch of gov. it would be political suicide for her. The ones that make the move from the exec. branch to the legislative branch are not around to long in public life. Gov. Palin is to big for Congress. Gov. Palin is a leader not a follower.

I have a nomination for a truly qualified BLACK MAN for POTUS, should Obama be deemed uneligible, and that is EDDIE ORUM III. He was the president of our high school student council and went on to be principal of a high school…it doesn’t sound like much, but he has so much more of what it takes to lead than BHO. Eddie has the leadership skills necessary for POTUS. So, why not him, instead? And I really do want to vote for a BLACK MAN, though all of my friends are calling me racist. I am truly serious.

I love the title of the post.

1984 is here. You can’t say Obama’s middle name Hussein because that’s racist the media screamed. Now Hussein will help the Muslims worldwide love us.

Obama doesn’t complete a full Senate term but that’s okay. Obama was a part-time state senator first.

If Palin doesn’t complete a full Senate term she’s too inexperienced despite being a Governor first.

This is straight out of Orwell.
