ABC Says Jesse, Jr. is “Senate Candidate 5″

ABCNews says Jesse Jackson, Jr. is “Senate Candidate 5.”

Let’s review the FBI affidavit on “Senate Candidate 5,” shall we?

103. Later on November 10, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH and Advisor A again discussed the open Senate seat. ROD BLAGOJEVICH and Advisor A discussed leaking to the same particular Chicago Sun-Times columnist that ROD BLAGOJEVICH is seriously considering Senate Candidate 5 for the open Senate seat, in order to send a message to the President-elect that there are options for the Senate seat beyond Senate Candidate 1. At the end of the conversation Advisor A agreed to call the Sun Times columnist to leak the story (believed, based on other intercepted conversations, to be untrue), that ROD BLAGOJEVICH had a “long, productive discussion” with Senate Candidate 5 regarding the open Senate seat.

Read the rest ->

a. On December 4, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke to Advisor B and informed Advisor B that he was giving Senate Candidate 5 greater consideration for the Senate seat because, among other reasons, if ROD BLAGOJEVICH ran for reelection Senate Candidate 5 would “raise[] money” for ROD BLAGOJEVICH, although ROD BLAGOJEVICH said he might “get some (money) up front, maybe” from Senate Candidate 5 to insure Senate Candidate 5 kept his promise about raising money for ROD BLAGOJEVICH. (In a recorded conversation on October 31, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH described an earlier approach by an associate of Senate Candidate Five as follows: “We were approached ‘pay to play.’ That, you know, he’d raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him (Senate Candidate 5) a Senator.”)

b. Later on December 4, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke to Fundraiser A. ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated he was “elevating” Senate Candidate 5 on the list of candidates for the open Senate seat. ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided ROD BLAGOJEVICH with something “tangible up front.” ROD BLAGOJEVICH noted he was going to meet with Senate Candidate 5 in the next few days. ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A to reach out to Individual D, an individual who ROD BLAGOJEVICH is attempting to obtain campaign contributions from and who, based on intercepted phone calls, ROD BLAGOJEVICH believes to be close to Senate Candidate 5. ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A to tell Individual D that Senate Candidate 5 was very much a realistic candidate for the open Senate seat, but that ROD BLAGOJEVICH was getting “a lot of pressure” not to appoint Senate Candidate 5. ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A to tell Individual D that ROD BLAGOJEVICH had a problem with Senate Candidate 5 just promising to help ROD BLAGOJEVICH because ROD BLAGOJEVICH had a prior bad experience with Senate Candidate 5 not keeping his word. ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A to tell Individual D that if Senate Candidate 5 is going to be chosen to fill the Senate seat “some of this stuffs gotta start happening now . . .right now. . . and we gotta see it. You understand?” ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A that “you gotta be careful how you express that and assume everybody’s listening, the whole world is listening. You hear me?” ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A to tell Individual D if there is “tangible political support (campaign contributions) like you’ve said, start showing us now.” Fundraiser A stated he will call Individual D on the phone to communicate ROD BLAGOJEVICH’s message. ROD BLAGOJEVICH responded that “I would do it in person. I would not do it on the phone.” ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Fundraiser A to communicate the “urgency” of the situation to Individual D.

Drip, drip, drip. For a clean guy, PEBO certainly surrounds himself with questionable characters. Jesse, Jr, a US Representative from Illinois, has publicly said he is interested in Obama’s seat. Interestingly, the affidavit suggests BO wanted someone else (Senate Candidate 1, widely assumed to be Valerie Jarrett). I wonder if JJJ knew THAT at the time? Or did he expect help from BO in getting the seat? Who knows? What we do know is some of what JJJ did to help BO during the presidential campaign.

He famously linked Hillary to OJ Simpson. Remember that? It was a throw-away line in a WaPo piece last January.

“The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson] — how does an African American candidate attack a white woman?” said Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), a fellow Chicagoan whose father ran for president twice in the 1980s but was never as close as Obama is now to securing the Democratic nomination.

JJJ also mocked Hillary on a down day for her in New Hampshire.

Jesse Jr. What a guy! Ready to use sexism, racism and “pay for play.” And a national co-chair of BO’s presidential campaign. Wonder what the Rev. would say?

I mentioned in another thread perhaps Blago, knowing he was being taped, set them up, figuring if he was going down, he might as well take them along.

Even Obama.

We’ll see.

I wonder sometimes if he felt jealous of Obama, and Rham, et al — you know what they say, “hell have no fury like a woman, or a faded, corrupt golden boy, scorned.”

Blago was supposed to be the IL president…

That was my first thought. Rod saw lots of other people going to Washington and he was not on the list.

My question is why did the Tribune run the story saying Hot Rod was being wiretapped when Fitz says they were “holding” the story for him?
There must have been a secondary leak to Hot Rod, and Fitz must have known the leak occurred, for Fitz to okay the Tribune to run the leak story in December.

Comment by DisenfranchisedVoter | 2008-12-10 14:07:31

Well, it’s good to know that JJ Jr. was also used and thrown under the bus by Obama. At least it looks like a good possibility that JJ Jr. will never be a U.S. Senator. Let’s cross our fingers that Fitz uncovers more dirt about these scumbags in the upcoming weeks.

But I hear there are going to be 10,000 buses in D.C. for the inauguration. That’s an awful lot of space to fill up (under the bus), if they can ever figure out where to park all those buses!

Exactly, Dis. Surely JJJ, like John Kerry, thought he was going to get SOMETHING for all of his hard work to get Obama elected, including trashing Hillary Clinton.

Here’s my question, though - when these people kept seeing Obama, um, throw people under the bus, screw people over, treat people as means to an end - take your pick - why in the WORLD did they never think it was going to happen to THEM? John Kerry and JJJ can join the pity party of the numerous people screwed over by Obama. Huh - I bet they’ll be able to fill that stadium up again…

Comment by FranSC | 2008-12-10 17:08:02

“If backed into a corner BO always plays the race card.” OR rather, it is played FOR him by JJJ who gets the likes of SC Rep. James Clyburn (who has been mentioned as our next ‘transportation secretary’), Donna Brazile, or Roland Martin to do the dirty work, with condescending outrage. This was one of JJJ’s jobs in the campaign. Talk about a scumbag - he’s it!

Is it criminal to threaten someone’s career in that manner, even in terms of defrauding Hillary Clinton of the nomination?

Oh, so those threats the delegates met at the convention if they were to cast their votes for Hillary were illegal? Imagine that!

They are in the real world, just not in “political world,” apparently.

Perhaps Jimmy Carter, guardian of the thrid world voter, can speak of behalf of JJJ.

I just can’t help but think of Carter’s comment, in regard to Clinton and her fight for the nomination: “she has to stop this nonsense, now.”

Lost all respect for the sanctimonious hypocrite, forever.

I think JJJr was the singlemost guilty party in corrupting public discourse with race baiting in this year’s Democratic nomination. As a former New Orleans resident I know that JJJr himself never “shed a tear” for New Orleans unless it was an aptly timed and self-serving political stunt - yet he stooped to that maudlin and vicious attack on his fellow Democratic Senator. What a charlatan.

I couldn’t ask for a better outcome than to find out that he’s SC#5 and will be removed from any chance at future influence in the Democratic Party!

Awesome. Cheers to justice.

Comment by JG | 2008-12-10 14:26:21

The real story here is that, honestly, once and for all-time, we’ll have the answer on whether Obama was intentionally involved in pay for play deals that crossed the line into illegality.

Hot Rod and his chief of staff know where a lot of bodies are buried - Chief of Staff Harris was a close Daly guy for a decade or more, including the BUDGET director for the city. Now, Jesse Jackson, Jr. is facing allegations of conduct in the FBI affidavit that constitute conspiracy to engage in bribery of the Governor.

If Obama was truly dirty, in a legality-based sense of the term, one of those three likely would have some smoking gun evidence of that dirt. Facing the rest of their lives in federal prison, one of them (or all of them) will sing - and if Obama is truly dirty, odds are that they’ll finger him. Not about this stupid selling of the Senate seat garbage, but everything before the election.

Least us not forget that Obama was one of 4 guys (Rahm and two other guys) running Hot Rod’s first Governor campaign in 2002, according to Rahm recently in the New Yorker. These guys all know each other very well and have done business before.

The real question not yet asked by the press at all is why Hot Rod would feel comfortable going to Obama to propose such a deal if indeed Obama was so above the fray and not involved at all in pay for play during his time in Illinois. If Obama truly was not ever involved, Hot Rod would be suicidal to try to cut an illegal deal NOW, AFTER 10 years of Obama refusing to be involved in such deals AND with Obama under more scrutiny than ever before.

It doesn’t add up.

Comment by Fancy | 2008-12-10 15:07:27

And Rezko, too, Rezko is a very important part of this story.

Comment by JiffyJML | 2008-12-10 15:12:30

Agree. If you are going to do something as ballsy as trying to engage a president-elect in blatant pay-to-play corruption, even a half-wit like Blagobits would only do that if he had some sense or reason to believe that the president-elect would play ball.

Anyone else believe that the infamous Chicago Machine will do anything to get those Olympic Games -it would not do to bring the PE down, now would it? From a Chicago blogger:

What’s missing from most of this analysis is the timing vis-a-vis the context.
The charges of selling the Senate seat, while spectacular, are just a small element of the overall corruption involved here. Going past the headlines, the other charges include some actually more serious corruption, in the usual pay-to-play manner that is so ordinary here in northeastern Illinois that locals hardly raise an eyebrow.
In fact, I am starting to think that Fitzgerald did indeed pull the trigger much earlier than planned or desired. The huge Federal cloud hanging over Blagojevich isn’t new, and it didn’t start on Election Day 2008.
Blagojevich is but one of the Machine’s operatives abroad working for the benefit of the Machine. The fact that he went wrong isn’t even exceptional; recall failed US Senator Carol Moseley Braun, who also was “sent”, in the Chicago Outfit sense, to Washington.
Blagojevich failed as a Machine person and has been an outcast among his peers for a considerable time now. The fact that the Tribune has been very loudly working against him, leading the way for a Constitutional amendment to permit recall, shows how far off the reservation he’s gone.
But the Trib’s opposition, worthy of the description “all-out attack”, is a clue all by itself.
The Tribune is the organization that made it possible for the Machine to install Obama in the Senate and so on, by taking out his opponent back in 2000 with an Axelrod-style oppo campaign.
The tie here is the protection of Obama. Blagojevich was dangerously close to damaging Obama, and taking him out was high on several people’s lists.
This is not to suggest that Fitzgerald would have helped in that regard, but the help he got from within the Machine certainly must have weighed in the decision to go forward with still so much investigating to be done, and so many more Machine people to indict. Arresting Blagojevich so soon must have pained Fitzgerald, but he did it anyway.
A year ago, Chicagoans widely believed that Fitzgerald would be sent packing in January, 2009 if any Democrat won the White House. This does not seem so obvious, now. Still, it is possible to argue that there was exigency in moving against Blagojevich with the possiblity that the Fitzgerald era in Chicago was drawing to a close.
Keep in mind, especially those who don’t follow the Machine so closely, that Fitzgerald has put some seriously heavy Machine people behind bars, and is getting close to even bigger targets. The desperation on the Fifth Floor (at City Hall) is palpable. Even Richard Daley himself has been interviewed.
But Blagojevich was doing far worse things than the charges presented here, and the Feds wanted a lot more than just this one guy and his chief of staff.
There is local speculation that Rezko suddenly decided not to talk to reduce his sentence, an event that coincided with the election of Obama, and that with Rezko going silent on the possiblity of either a pardon or to take one for the President. Some also believe that without the help of Rezko, Fitzgerald found a number of other avenues becoming less inviting and so, went with what he had.
Finally, it’s clear from the tapes that Blagojevich has gotten unstable, saying such things (which are not extraordinary around Chicago in the least) knowing full well the prosecutor’s office was draped all over him like a blanket. I believe Fitzgerald acted early in order to prevent even more eccentric behavior.
I urge anyone looking for background on this to look up columnist John Kass at chicagotribune.com, who not only accurately foresaw the events of yesterday, but many others as well.
You will learn that this is all a large picture of a large organization, and separating the three Daleys, Blagojevich, Obama, and the others just isn’t possible.

Obama busted….apparently he did meet with Blagojevich

Obama met with Governor Rod Blagojevich earlier this week to discuss it. Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement. There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Junior to Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.

Psssh, many of us here smelled that stink all over Obama from the minute we started paying attention to him.

I feel resentful too.

Comment by Northwest rain | 2008-12-10 16:06:42

I got the sense yesterday that something is up. I was out shopping and for no apparent reason I heard several people announce that they didn’t vote for Obama — and then they added — he won’t show his birth certificate. (It really surprised me to hear ANYTHING negative about Obama — this was the first time EVER.)

Generally I am in silent while shopping — because I want to appear neutral and if there are trends (water cooler discussions) I’m more likely to hear other opinions.

These remarks were from AAs — and they wanted others to know that they DID not vote for Obama and that they don’t trust him — due to his refusal to show his BC. (This isn’t OT — I’m getting to JJJr)

“Who is going to bail me out” . . . “with all that bail out money being spread around wall street — who is going to bail me out”.

It’s working people who will be doing the bailing out. (THIS connection is being made by many Americans.) Meanwhile there is no concern or interest in the working people’s problems BY politicians.

For some there is a serious case of buyers remorse — for others they saw through Obama and want to make a public “I told you so” statement.

JJJr is one of the “princes” of the Civil Rights Names — and this prince seems to be out to make himself wealthy — as if somehow this is his due.

We have Mrs. Obama — screeching — give us more — give us something — as if she is a special case and somehow above everyone. Mrs. Obama is a princess of the Chicago political machine and as such she feels entitled.

Whereas the working folk — who are still doing their daily jobs, paying TAXES and keeping the whole system working by paying the upkeep of the Government. THESE people aren’t seeing a pay-back.

How is this scandle playing out with all the ants who keep the system working? What about the other shoes yet to drop?

It is no surprise to NQ that JJJr is deeply involved — and that he is as dirty as the rest of the Chicago political mob.

How is it that Obama managed to climb to the top of this dung heap — and has remained untouched by the filth? Well he hasn’t — we KNOW it. A few threads down Mrs. Obama is implicated as deeply involved in the pay to play — by her appointment to corporate boards — because this is something that the Governor wants for his wife. The implication by the Governor that Obama has the power to make the money flow — that Obama is now at the top of the Chicago style money faucet.

Which means that the corporations are involved in the pay to play — and we know that these expenses (pay-offs) are added to the cost of whatever they sell.

When are the ants going to start the rebellion? JJJr isn’t working for anyone but himself.

Comment by Zeke | 2008-12-10 17:25:51

Winter in Grasshoppersylvania is expected to be extra cold this year… the ants are getting restless.
There very well could be a massive political flip in America.
The country’s gone into the shit-hole so deep so fast that even the fools who voted for him are suddenly in denial.
At this rate, the only people who will have voted for Obama will be the fraudulent names on ACORN’s list.
Its like Nixon all over again. In 1972 he won by the biggest landslide in history. By 1976 you couldn’t find anyone who had voted for him.
I get dibs the T-shirt concession with the line, “I TOLD YOU SO!” in bold face under a picture of Obama behind bars.

“My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth. ”
Abraham Lincoln

Oh come on! Hearing that makes me so mad.

I don’t know where you live, but I live in NY. I told my sister, months ago (she didn’t vote for 0bama either)that when all the dirt came out, that we were going to be hard put to find any fellow AAs who admitted they voted for 0bama.

I don’t believe those people one bit. Like rats some may already be preparing to abandon ship.

What makes me so angry is all the abuse I had to endure for not supporting this dirty politician just because he was ‘black’ and I was supposed to.

And we’re only on the front edge of all that will come out on 0bama.

I dont think Obama turned Blago down, I think, in part, they were trying to blow him off, (Blago, that is) with the two year thing, and Blago knew –

It was never my impression Obama did the right thing re the Senate seat, it was my impression he, or his team, put out, to Blago, a false carrot, trying to wrestle control away from him.

The dems in IL wanted Blago out, I’m just not sure this is going to work out for them the way they thought — and it’s too late, now, anyway, Blago may have been a PITA, but if isn’t Blago who brings them down, it will be someone else.

They’re in WAY OVER THEIR HEADS, here.

Honeslty, I say this facetiously, I would not be surprised to see them connected financially to 9.11, at some point, there seems to be SO much going on in terms of corruption, and the various players, including the Rezko types.

I mean, really, this DOES reach all the way to Washington.

(Oh, shoot, I have a spider on my wall, dang, the lil thing just keeps going in circles — I guess I have a retarded spider on my wall, then, just my luck — gotta go kill it –)

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-12-10 18:31:26

Obama probably didn’t really give a sh*t who got the seat, at least enough to pay and play for it. He probably *expected* Blago to appoint who he told him to, and it would be done. When Blago didn’t play that way, Obama then said he had NO CONTACT what so ever - so as to not hurt his credibility, and because Blago wanted a pay out. Or else Obama knew they were going to arrest him, and he tried to distance himself.

(i HATE spiders! eeeeeek)

Comment by extreme ways | 2008-12-10 15:42:46

Blago knew he was being taped. Reading above that Rezko has gone silent, it follows that Blago is going to clear Barfy of any possible wrong doing, knowing positively that they will both be pardoned.

He feigned anger that Obama would not help him. Since they all knew Blago was going down, this is the best possible use of him and outcome for all involved, not counting our country and its citizens.

Hope I’m wrong.

Ah — and now the Obama-worshipping press can no longer deny or ignore the stench of Chicago gutter poilitics around the president elect.

Jesse Jackson Jr., a top gun in Obama’s campaign, offewring a half-million to the corrupt governor for the vacated Senate seat.

Are we to believe the chaste-as-driven-snow PE knew nothing of this?

Somehow, though forging his career in the political sewer known as Chicago, we are to believe Obama never had anything to do with this or other pay-to-play schemes.

Rezko may continue to keep his mouth shut but I doubt the nutty governor will.

Obama has history with all these players, well documented, but as long as the press kept feeling that leg-tingle they ignored it.

Until now.

LOL!

Comment by stodgie | 2008-12-10 17:24:27

Same with Blago. For BO to pardon Rezko and or Blago would be more scandelous than Clinton’s pardon of Mark Rich. They are ALL under the bus (screech, screech on the blackboard, Obamabots.)

Comment by Buzz Latte | 2008-12-10 18:14:32

Steverino,
Expect a speech… and when it is finished, expect everyone to shake their heads and say out loud, “what were we thinking! Obama is clean as the driven snow…”
He will use the tried and true techniques he’s used the whole time, speak with a teleprompter and dazzle everyone with some bullpucky which, after the speech, will make no sense whatsoever but, at the time, will have sounded to them like Winston Churchill, FDR, JFK, and MLK rolled into a giant doobie and smoked down to the roach.
If he doesn’t give a speech, he’ll lose the ‘bots.
If he does, mark my words…

CHICAGO (AP) — A spokeswoman for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich says one of his top aides has resigned.

Spokeswoman Kelley Quinn on Wednesday said Deputy Gov. Bob Greenlee resigned. The reason for his resignation wasn’t immediately clear.

Greenlee’s resignation comes a day after Blagojevich was arrested on federal corruption charges.

Greenlee was promoted to be a top aide to Blagojevich in June, replacing former Deputy Governor Sheila Nix. Greenlee had been a top administration aide previously.

State records indicate the 33-year-old Greenlee lives in Chicago and earned $149,000 a year.

(freeper says he is Sen candidate #4 but not sure where that came from)

They should tap that corrupt mf’er Jackson Jr’s phones and keep close tabs on him, along with all the other Chicago Democrat scumbags.
Obama is always preaching how he is holier than thou, but it turns out that every single person he has ever associated himself with in Chicago, are the most corrupt scum bags in the entire country. Al Capone was a choir boy compared to the Illinois Democrat party. And Obama is a direct product of all this, as he got in bed with these scumbags and used them all up until there wasn’t a drop left to feed his ambitions. We haven’t heard the last of all this crap by a long shot.
It’s like I said during the primaries…the only place in America more f’ed up and corrupt than Washington is Chicago, and Obama is bringing all that thuggery and corruption with him.

KHQA TV wishes to offer clarification regarding a story that appeared last month on our website ConnectTristates.com. The story, which discussed the appointment of a replacement for President Elect Obama’in the U.S. Senate, became the subject of much discussion on talk radio and on blog sites Wednesday.

The story housed in our website archive was on the morning of November 5, 2008. It suggested that a meeting was scheduled later that day between President Elect Obama and Illinois Governor Blagojevich. KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place. Governor Blagojevich did appear at a news conference in Chicago on that date.
