This Is What Is Wrong With The Democratic Party – UPDATED WITH VIDEO LINK

That men like James Carville do not see why blatant disrespect for women in this manner is a problem. I am speaking, of course, of the Favreau photograph. You know, this one:

Of course, the former Romney spokesman wasn’t much better, but he did not go off like Carville did about how this is a non-issue, people are stupid if they think it is (paraphrasing just a tad) and Favreau is SO talented. What a freaking jackass. Major H/T to SFIndiePuma (via Riverdaughter) for providing this video link

As if I had not already lost respect for Carville over his actions during the Primary/Election. Why is someone like him still speaking for the Democrats?? As long as they have people like HIM speaking for them, especially on WOMEN’S issues, I won’t touch ‘em with a ten foot pole. Jagoff.

Believe it or not, I wasn’t even planning on writing about this today – I was GOING to talk about how Governor Blagojevich of IL was just thrown into the Federal slammer. Oh, and how the governor is trying to pressure Bank of America to give into the Republic Window and Door company in Chicago that shut its doors without paying the employees their severance pay (Bank of America is the one that provided a LOAN to the company that shut down). That had been my plan. But then I saw the video of that assholic Carville, and just had to share.

Holy crap. No wonder things suck for women in this country when you have people like that on national television downplaying it as a non-issue and BERATING those of us who want this sexist pig held accountable. The Old Boys Club is not just alive and well, it is taking in new members. Disgusting. And I am disgusted at what this party has become. It has lost its way. It has lost, no, it sold, its soul this year. And women are paying the price for it.

As for Blagojevich being arrested for , though, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving man. Too bad it didn’t happen sooner, but hey – there’s still time, right? Not that Teflon Man’s minions aren’t already explaining this one away. Whatever. But somewhere, way deep down inside, they know that where there is smoke, there is fire. And Obama’s associates have been burning for a while now – they just refuse to, or cannot, admit it. Eventually, it will sink in. At least I hope so.

the new agenda:

http://thenewagenda.net/media/press-releases/december-10-2008-infamous-favreau-grope-posting-could-be-channeled-for-good/

“Instead of a summary dismissal of Favreau, we believe more good could be gained by opening a national dialogue on domestic violence,” said Amy Siskind, co-founder of The New Agenda. “If Favreau were to mark today by making a public apology and volunteering at a battered women’s shelter it would show authentic contrition and channel the deluge of negative public attention he continues to receive toward a productive end.”

Comment by Astra14 | 2008-12-10 07:51:45

I sincerely doubt we’ll see him do that, but if he does decide to, I hope he gets his buddy in the picture to go with him.

I’m glad to see The New Agenda step up to the plate for women!

Comment by Woman Voter | 2008-12-10 10:24:53

The New Democratic Party based in Chicago is in dire need of reform (Top to bottom).

CNN was part of the Obama Camp as they wouldn’t allow James Carville to participate during the primaries to defend Senator Hillary Clinton but would allow him to defend Obama in the general election and would allow him to go on the ‘attack’ against The New Agenda. How lovely!

I no longer watch CNN or MSNBC!

I was most disappointed in James Carville’s attacks on The New Agenda and him praising of Favreau (poor little brilliant guy that takes tags from other groups and claims them all their own). I also think Romney’s guy was pathetic in joining in to defend Favreau and I guess Mormons are wilder at parties according to him.

When called out the men will defend outrages behavior rather than admit that it was wrong. Why? Because it was against a woman!

You want to know how a guy like Blago became so untitled in his mind? It’s because when he was Favreau’a age and started behaving like a bully nobody called him on his antics.

FAVREAU SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIRED DAYS AGO.

What about it BO? Of course everyone surrounding you would have to go including yourself!

mmmmmhmmmmm, that’s exactly what you would say to a Republican? I don’t believe it. It doesn’t matter that he’s the only guy that can put the right words in Obama’s mouth, he should go. She’s going to be the SOS, for gosh sake! It is inconceivable that he can do this and continue on his merry way, maybe making a stop at a women’s shelter (probably groping a few there as well). This makes me sick.

Comment by Astra14 | 2008-12-10 07:46:14

So, they think this is a NON-ISSUE! Is sexual harassment going to be allowed to run rampant in the workplace again? Looks like it’s running rampant in our government! If Jon Favreau was employed where I worked the boss would have had Favreau’s ass in his office immediately if anything like that picture showed up in the office!!!! And since Favreau is about to be a government employee, doesn’t that mean he’s a public figure? That his “workplace” encompasses the whole USA? So, there’s no walking away from this one in my opinion!

The only women I hear playing this down right now are the younger generation, who are part of Obama’s fan club.

Comment by margarita | 2008-12-10 07:49:43

Favreau’s mother must be so proud. Since he was so proud of that photo and put it up on Facebook, maybe he’ll put it in a silver frame and give it to her for Christmas?

This is just more evidence of the Swiss cheese team around BO. The MSM has been busy scrubbing all information that could tip people off about the corrupt ethics of the BO team

Blago shared Axelrod with BO…BO campaigned for Blago, Blago got BO money and board appointments…they are all dirty.Axelrod was their campaign manager. Everything these people touch is full of corruption.
This is the NEW CHICAGO STYLE DEMOKRATIC PARTY.

I cannot take on the world. But I can take on this little corner of it.

Lisa how old are you? and were you old enough to see the Anita Hill hearings live? If not, learn to respect your elders. They fought hard and deserve respect and that includes Hillary, a former first lady of the United States, a standing US senator, and a soon-to-be Secretary of Sates.

Facreau is a kid who still need to learn how to behave as an adult. He needs to be fired as he obviously has not the self-respect to resign his position.

Carville has daughters. I wonder how he would feel watching a bunch of boys feel up a cardboard cut out of one of his daughters. He should think of these things when he comments on women and sexism.

Karma is a bitch.

Comment by candymarl | 2008-12-10 09:03:00

Yes, there are. But I think you’re missing the point here. If a personal appointee of our President elect is allowed to behave this way in public and have that behavior excused what does that say about the judgment of the President elect that picked this person for the job?

Does having someone like this on your staff reflect clear, reasoned, judgment? As others have said this type of behavior would not be tolerated at most work places.

Others have also pointed out that if you substituted Michelle Obama or Caroline Kennedy there would be howls of outrage.

Oh yeah, and the person in that picture is our prospective Secretary of State. People from other countries see these pictures too. Try being taken seriously when your fellow appointees, Presidential advisers, and other women in your own country don’t see a problem with this.

Try going to another country and telling them to treat their women with more respect. When they stop laughing they can all point at this picture.

Comment by Diana L. C. | 2008-12-10 09:37:35

Actually it gives the countries that keep their women wearing burkhas in public and that arrest couples holding hands (gasp) convinced that we as decadent as they believe us to be. It gives them more proof in their minds that they are right and we are wrong and should be hated.

An intelligent man would see that this should not be brushed off, or discussed while holding the middle finger to the face, or taking the stage to “99 Problems and a Bitch Ain’t One.”

Comment by mimi | 2008-12-10 13:09:42

Yes, he represents the new President. He has been the ‘brains’ and artistry of the speeches that have wowed people and caused people to vote for 0bama. And here he is photographed doing this.

For me, the issue of the timing has my attention. Carville wants to dismiss this, but I say this, why wasn’t he groping a picture of Angelina Jolie, for example? Sure, it would still anger a lot of women because it represents a certain kind of mindset. But certainly there would be no argument that the statement these men were expressing was that Jolie is sexually attractive to them and their actions express that.

But Hillary? Are they saying they are sexually attracted to Hillary?

No!

They are making a statement intended to demean, dominate, ’show her who’s boss.’ At this late stage, long after the Primary, it’s about the need to keep sticking it to ‘Hillary’ that she LOST. Implicit in this action is every demeaning feeling a misogynist has toward a woman, especially a powerful woman.

This is why I want Favereau FIRED!

The mentality behind this action can in no way ever justify taking seriously any words that come out of 0bama’s mouth written by this adolescent, immature grown man. And if 0bama wants to roll with this, I, for one, and more than happy to see him try.

So I really don’t give a rat’s ass about Carville and what he thinks. He was in the dung heap with all the others that I kicked to the curb during this election cycle. I’m not wasting any energy in false expectation from these people. That it’s his opinion, is just one more of the many reasons I am no longer a Democrat.

I am staying focused on the timing and what it symbolizes coming from 0bama’s chief speechwriter.

Until someone explains: Why Hillary? and Why now? Until they can, in articulate language explain the reason behind this so-called joke, then I am forced to believe my own reasons.

This shouldn’t be so hard. John Favereau should know a little bit about expressing himself in articulate language. After all, he is the voice behind 0bama’s awesome speeches.

And one more thing:

0bama and his supporters have proven themselves to be some of the most ungracious winners I have ever seen in my lifetime. I hope they are prepared for the retribution that will come there way when the tables get turned.

I guess such a piggish display of sexism and the news of our PEBO being a dirty Chicago politician and linked to these indicted dirty politicans and crooks could be a toss up on which is best to be talking about at this point and time.

I’ll ponder that while the discussion continues.

Seems like a stretch to blame everthing that is wrong with the Democratic party and sexism in America on a ridiculous picture by a couple of insignificant drunk guys.

There are far more important and meaningful things in the world to worry about.

Comment by SFIndiePUMA | 2008-12-10 10:15:06

Do you have a daughter, Lisa? If you do then picture this: She’s in high school. She comes home one day in tears, because a bunch of guys in her school have taken a picture of her, doctored it up to look like she was at a party with them being fondled and groped, and had posted it all over the internet. All the other kids at school had seen it and she felt humiliated and degraded. What are you going to do, Mom? Tell your daughter “get over it, it’s just a ridiculous picture”?

If that’s your response, then (1) you should have your daughter immediately removed from your home because you’re an unfit parent, and (2) you’ve succeeded in perpetuating the belief that women are objects and their humiliation and degradation are not all that important or meaningful.

If you don’t have a daughter, and you can’t imagine the above scenario, then why don’t you spend some time at a domestic violence shelter or a rape crisis center. Look the survivors of sexual assault in the eyes, hear their stories, and then tell me again how being upset at the sexual assault upon the image of a living woman is ridiculous.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-12-10 10:42:56

This is the very mind set that would send a child to tell their abuser to stop it. The things I have seen would shock you, it shocked me, but to look away only allows it to continue.

It is as if we have to educate women as to the causal origins of this type of behavior. It all stems at the origin when women aren’t respected, it trickles down to children, innocent defenseless children and then they will ask how did it happen.

We must learn to stop it at this level and say it isn’t acceptable. I was saddened to hear that James Carville said in his days (youth BTW isn’t someone in their late twenties) it wouldn’t have been a cardboard…do they hear what they are saying?!?

Comment by hopechangechangehope | 2008-12-13 14:17:53

I wouldn’t call Obama’s speech writer insignificant. He writes for the future president of the United States. As others have pointed out, his actions reflect his attitude toward women. And exactly how can Americans tell other people to respect women when someone so close to our president obviously does not respect women.

Comment by Woman Voter | 2008-12-10 10:40:16

It starts with as small think like a pin up in the lunch room and then when no one removes it, it progresses to someone smacking your bottom. It all starts from the tone, the tone in essence is the sign that says it is OK to harass women, demean them, degrade them and much worse.

I guess you haven’t taken a woman up to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to file a complaint and wait to receive that little letter. Interesting thing I found was that once they did receive the letter they simply settled with the conditions being fixed for them, because they just wanted it to stop, but the letter does put the location on the radar of the EEOC. More needs to be done, like a registry of bad restaurants that discloses their rating and how many of these letters are issued.

When you finally take someone up there you find out that it all started with what James Carville seems to think is boys being boys and then the woman finds herself cornered at the work place, threatened when cornered (when you don’t cooperate)….and on and on.

When will women stand up for women, do they not have sisters, daughter, …. :-(

If Hillary had groped Obie in a picture, it’d have the bots howling for her head. Hell, they’re howling for her head all the time anyway. If he’d been groping Rachel Maddow or Caroline Kennedy, you’d see a mind-blowing scandal. But it’s just Hillary, former First Lady who you bots can’t even remember. You people who dismiss this as nothing inappropriate should suffer sexual harrassment at the hands of these liberal sexist men.

Let me ask you something, what is the purpose of Favreau’s action? What positive message does it send to the Democrats and to the people of this country? This is the kind of thing Democrats crucified George W. Bush for and now Obama’s people accept it as brilliant and innocuous.

Welcome, real Lisa! And you’re right that this picture is extremely important.

The other Lisa I’m sure is one of the youngsters who don’t remember or know what it was like to not to want to go to work because of sexual harassment before we got some safeguards against it. Pictures like that which made women “uncomfortable” (mild term there) in the workplace were thought to be funny by the male coworkers and many times purposely used to make the female coworkers uncomfortable, because they were stepping into male dominated territory at the time. The other Lisa is probably clueless how bad things could get, and they generally started with a demeaning photo before they escalated into a lot worse.

Comment by sarainitaly | 2008-12-10 08:50:35

My problem with the picture is that, for one, it shows the intellect of the writer who *wow’d* the country, and *sold* Obama to America. Many people saw through those speeches, and began to notice a pattern (repeats). The campaign operates like a *start-up* company, one step up from a frat house.

My other issue with the photo, the much larger one, is that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will need to speak with leaders from all over the world, many in countries that have major women’s rights issues, and many that do not hold women women in high regard/respect.

With this image out there, it shows the utter lack of respect that the Obama camp has for SoS Clinton. How can she perform her duties, and demand/command respect from leaders in other countries, when we are so unevolved in our own? How can she speak to the atrocities in other countries, when she herself is subject to similar attacks here.

Yes, Favreau is a 27 year old, who was working hard, and blowing off steam.

But the point is that he is working for the POTUS, and not the University Frat House President. If we can’t expect appropriate behavior from our *leaders* and their employees, then we are doomed, sorry to say. Are we being led by a bunch of loons from Animal House? (Of course Favreau isn’t *leading us* but he is the person who puts the words into our *leaders* mouth.)

And I can only assume, that since the cut out was even AT their party, it isn’t the first time, or the last, that they mocked or joked about the cut out.

Sarah,

I agree totally, it is as if they released it to undermine her as SoS and in doing so tried to mock the importance of women issues around the world. It has been clear to many of us how this election cycle was driven by misogyny/sexism and how it has gained tacit approval from Obama camp and now James Carville is out front defending it too.

The New Agenda is one good thing that has come out of this and Women Count Pac to.

It would be good to see an article raising some of these concerns you point and also mentioning how it was during this time last year how Bhutto was assassinated because extremist didn’t want a ‘woman’ prime minister.

It is going to be a loooooong painful four years for women in the USA!

This sexism must be recognized for the destructive force it is, and for the damage it does to real people. We can rail against these injustices as individuals, as we should, but sadly no real change is going to be realized until prominent people stand up and say, in no uncertain terms, that it is wrong, and it will not be tolerated any longer. I can’t think of a better person to lead the fight than Hillary Clinton, the main target of the most viscious and on going attack in our country’s sexist history. However, if her spokesman’s statement concerning the Favreaur affair, is any indication of her readiness to take on this fight, then I’m going to be terribly disappointed. Speak up, Hillary, and defend yourself.

Favreau and friend are disgusting, but am I shocked? No. After Obots wore those pink T-shirts with “Sarah Palin is a c***” plastered across them and the Obama camp didn’t come out and condemn them, I realized there is no “too low” for his followers. Demean whoever you want, wherever you want – as long as you recognize (and worship) the King of Cool, your actions will be condoned.

Uh, well, yes, people have to have enough brain cells to figure out that publicly groping a woman who is a nationally respected figure in this country is a no-no.
The sad thing is that Obots are really disrespecting the democratic ideals Hillary Clinton has fought for all of her life because people like Favreau are not Democrats, they’re far left elitists.

I see the media is tripping all over themselves this morning trying to cover for Obama on the Roddo issue.

CNN has reached a new low with this celebration of sexism. Wolfe, Carville, and the other jerk have declared no harm. Hillary accepted the apology with good humor. No harm. So why am I so angry?

James Carville: “It’s a piece of cardboard, that’s all it is.” Symbolic behavior is not evaluated by the medium that it is printed or painted upon. By this logic, a swastika painted on a window is just a piece of glass, and the constitution is just a piece of paper. Stupid.

Comment by I'm a Linda too | 2008-12-10 11:09:31

Carville wishes he would be doing this when he’s in his 60’s? Oh yes, some kind of goal for you to set James. Maybe you think you’ll only be able to grope a piece of cardboard.

Comment by I'm a Linda too | 2008-12-10 11:11:57

And apparently Carville has some sexism in him that he calls us SICKOS for pointing out the wrong. That’s priceless.

They see absolutely nothing wrong with doing anything to cardboard, accodring to James and the others, so, PLEASE, CAN WE GET AN OBAMA CUT OUT with a woman kneeling and her head in his CROTCH AREA, NOW!!!

Comment by trixta | 2008-12-11 14:03:27

Linda, did you say “woman”? Doesn’t BO like it on the down low, as they say?

Comment by tek | 2008-12-10 11:37:26

“When he’s in his sixties?” That’s rich, like he isn’t already.

Comment by Amalia | 2008-12-10 11:27:51

screw Carville (actually no thank you) screw that Romney adviser who said their parties had hinky things, and screw Favreau (really no thank you). but still.

These pigs have no decency. everyone gets up in arms about the wardrobe costs for Sarah Palin and no one gets upset at the ritual sexual assault of a woman who just happens to be in postion to be our foreign policy rep to the world.

why doesn’t Obama just hire the entire Duke lacrosse team? the rape charge went away, but the stripper/drooling action still stands. they sound perfect to act as staff for Favreau.

if he had any decency, he would resign before he takes the job.

Comment by tek | 2008-12-10 11:38:32

I will keep praying that these sexist pig pseudo-Dems get what’s coming to them big time before the end of Obama’s first term.

Well I do have to say something, Hillary’s response to this picture did little to put to rest this type of sexist behavior. Oh! I forgot she is going to be SOS wouldn’t want to upset the one. And no….boys will not be boys and this is nothing short of disgusting! Hillary’s response should have been stronger and discussed the sexism!

Comment by ACPD | 2008-12-10 12:02:00

This proves the point that the reason there is so much sexism and women are still not being treated with respect, as equals to men, is that men of influence don’t get it….not because they are stupid, but because they don’t want to understand that being disrespectful and “having fun” at the expense of an accomplished, mature woman is a put down–not just to HRC, but to all women. When JC says that in his days at LSU, this “wouldn’t have been a cardboard figure,” he is condoning the right of men to grab women’s breasts for the fun of it….(Since when is having fun a moral imperative?)

Words are at the beginning of the continuum that leads to rape and violence against women. Men and women who “overlooked” the HRC nutcrackers and the lewd comments about SP just perpetuate sexism and undermine the progress mature, accomplished women have been fighting for….

No one would have tolerated a picture of women grabbing the balls of a cardboard Obama, or a turkey baster made to look like Obama. Of course, Obama has a speechwriter who doesn’t respect women. He, the DNC and most people in this country don’t either….This is pathetic, but not surprising.

What about Michelle Obama. Isn’t she going to be our new role model. She has daughters. I just can’t believe Mr. and Mrs. Obama would accept a cut out of one of their daughters being molested by a bunch of boys. Michelle has a responsility to speak out.

Comment by Peg | 2008-12-10 13:33:29

Here’s an idea. Let’s have 2 white males talking to another white male about a photo that is offensive to women. Jeesh.

And Carville apparently missed the fact that Favreau put the photo up on his own facebook page. He’s the one Carville is calling a sicko.

Too,I hope there are some in the leadership of the Democratic Party who are peeing their pants thinking about how their move to Chicago maybe wasn’t such a smart one – altho how they could have not known about this on- going investigation is hard to fathom – along with everything else.

Comment by Tricia Spiegel | 2008-12-10 14:59:53

Carville is a pig.

I wish someone would get a cardboard standup of his mama and have this guy groping her at a party. He might begin to get the point that way.

Comment by LAMusing | 2008-12-10 15:13:45

After hearing the two female candidates running for President and VP called “bitch” and “C*nt” in the media, not to mention the HUNDREDS of other misogynistic remarks hurled at Senator Clinton and Gov. Palin, the photo is exactly what I would expect.

I feel sick at heart.

Fearless pig leader set the tone during the primaries, Hillary basically said it was OK by campaigning and delivering the lion’s share of her voters to him.

Why should we be surprised by this.

This is the hope and change that who has been waiting for?

Comment by noproblama | 2008-12-10 16:16:40

What’s wrong with the Democratic Party is evidently wrong with our whole culture.

I help produce multimedia lecture series for college professors. Currently I’m working on one for criminal law. While normally I don’t have a chance to pay much attention to the subject matter, something caught my eye – a chart on median bail amounts for different crimes.

Now while murder was in the hundred of thousands, look at these:

Robbery: 30,000
Rape: 25,000
Assault: 10,000

Anyone else a little surprised that a horribly violent crime like rape is “valued” less than stolen possessions? And not much more that punching a guy in a bar fight.

This, plus watching the film last night on Tommy Chong’s arrest for selling bongs, has me once again wondering what the hell is going on.

Comment by noproblama | 2008-12-10 16:34:15

To clarify, since my comment above posted before I finished – I believe rape is devalued because it almost always is perpetrated on women. A cultural dismissal.

The Tommy Chong thing is just another example of our skewed legal/federal priorities.

Carville isn’t stupid. He absolutely knows BO has been damaged by the antics of his hired wordsmith, his insistence this had nothing to do with a connection to a BO Presidency notwithstanding. Of course it did. And, given his silence on the issue, how credible would a HRC S of S be, when her dignified claims to speak for the President can be undermined by his frat boys ‘just having fun’ at her expense? In other words, if he value her, he would fire him.

Comment by noproblama | 2008-12-10 17:27:39

No he’s not stupid, he’s knows politically on which side his bread is buttered, but he could and should have put this incident in the correct prospective.

Which is, if you’re mature enough to be lead speechwriter to the PE, you should be expected to act like it.

RAHM SHOULD RESIGN…

http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2006/12/rahm-emanuel-should-resign-from.html

“DCCC head Rahm Emanuel (and former male ballet dancer) was aware at least since 2005 that Foley was molesting young male pages. Emanuel, every bit as bad a scumbag as Foley and the GOP leadership who covered up for Foley, did nothing to protect the young pages from predators like Foley and Arizona Republican Jim Kolbe (who was also preying on them). Instead he decided to use the info as ammo in his partisan war to win a seat from the Republicans.”

That discussion on CNN of Favreau’s proud moment is beyond goofy. Favreau is a pig. Carille is a pig and the other two men are courting pigdom along with them. Where is the woman commentator in that little boys club?

And to repeat someone above, the comment from Carville that it is sick people who put up these photos to try and embarrass someone…it was Favreau himself???? None of those boys have any credibility.

Comment by Jon "Gang Rape" Favreau | 2008-12-10 22:20:49

Yes, Favreau is the sick one. He is the one who glorifies gang rape for the camera.

Favreau is a pig who must be fired.

All comments previous being so much more important than mine, I want to know the names of the jerk on the right, whispering into the cardboard cutout’s ear, as well as the woman in the background. Especially her name. I want to know women’s worst enemies, often themselves.
