Chris “Tingle” Matthews is in awe of the prospect of the anointment appointment of Caroline Kennedy, nee Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, as United States Senator from the State of New York:
“I am as much in the glow of the Kennedys as anyone but I am amazed that she will be appointed rather quickly by Governor Paterson to fill that seat without really having made a public case for that appointment. In other words, with no speeches, no statements, no memorable lines, no quotable quotes. She may be the most successful politician in history because she hasn’t said anything yet. Does that astound you? Maybe we are used to this with the Kennedys? I mean i find it wondrous … maybe i find it sacramental that she is getting this job.”

Then there’s what Al Sharpton said about Ms. Kennedy nee Mrs. Kennedy Schlossberg’s experience in education, which appears to be — perhaps — in conflict with Ms. Kennedy’s actual experience in education:

She has done concrete things.
She has reduced things in the city of New York.
She has brought more tangibles in the state and the city probably than Senator Clinton before she ran. …
Now I know that Ms. Kennedy nee Mrs. Kennedy Schlossberg has retained the services of a public relations firm for the purpose of imbuing her “resume’” with claims made by helpful surrogates on television programs.
And we know, from the video, that Ms. Kennedy contacted Mr. Al Sharpton in order to advise him of her desire to seek the appointment to the soon-to-be available seat in the U.S. Senate.
It is also clear (because that is how such things are done) that in so advising Mr. Sharpton of her interest in the seat, Ms. Kennedy subtly acquired Mr. Sharpton’s aide in helping her achieve her goal.
Now, we all know that Mr. Sharpton is given to misspeaking at times. Surely he did not mean, literally, that Ms. Kennedy really “reduced things in the city of New York.”
And, in all frankness, we do not know what Mr. Sharpton meant.
Nor do we have any idea to what Mr. Sharpton is referring when he claims that she “brought more tangibles …” or what those tangibles might be.
But we do have a record of her accomplishments in education, via her page at Wikipedia:

I had to stop the video after Sharpton compared Caroline’s “experience”, or lack thereof, to Hillary’s. Whomever said it first is right…this is indeed a political world gone mad. How can he diminish Hillary like this? And what is it with the crawler on the video “Clintons vs Kennedys”?

Why is everything suddenly so “sacramental”? Hey, Matthews — we’re dealing with politics and politicians here. A phony aura of glamor and unquestioned loyalty has surrounded the Kennedys for far too long. We all know that they are far less than perfect human beings. Heck, word has it that Caroline and her husband would have divorced long ago, but for some reason they decided to keep up appearances.
I find it totally bizarre and unnerving that so many personal friends who decry and ridicule any religious fundamentalist who proselytizes their faith to others have fallen victim to the same type of unthinking zeal within the political arena with nary a blink. Must just be something in human nature that wants to be fooled.
But then there is Hillary Clinton telling her supporters that we shouldn’t be at all “critical” of this impending Caroline Kennedy appointment. I no longer have any respect for Hillary Clinton and do not think she is much of a leader.

I’m really not entertaining unrealistic expectations about the new administration. We’re in a helluva mess; I’ll be happy enough with Obama’s team if they can lay the groundwork for a positive future. Infrastructure reconstruction, a push alternative energy, education reform, healthcare, corporate and investment transparency, a regulatory structure designed to serve the public instead of private interests—it’s the long-term benefit of that change of focus I believe in, not that the guy can pull a rabbit out of a hat and solve all our problems.
What I object to are efforts to misplace the blame for how we got to where we are. While there are certainly some blame-worthy democrats, the republicans were essentially running the show until two years ago and had been for a decade.

They give her equal “White House” parity with Hillary’s eight years as the most involved first lady in history even though Caroline was all of maybe five years-old at the end of her White House stay.
I’m not saying she’s not “work” qualified, but I haven’t seen the evidence of it yet.
I HAVE seen evidence of her judgment, however – she chose to dump on Hillary Clinton and use her considerable influence to pull Barack Obama out of the political second string and propel him into “anointment” status for President of the United States, wrap her arms around his “Chicago style” politics and support him in his socialist policies.
That body of warped political thinking is all I need to know about Caroline Kennedy. She’s more of the problem, not the solution.
As an Illinois resident, I can unequivocally state that no one has ever done less as senator than Barack Obama, or been less qualified for any of the positions he filled. So perhaps Caroline will do a better job. I do think she actually cares about New York unlike Barack Obama who only cares about himself, Michelle and his children. He could barely show up for any meetings in Illinois or Washington on our behalf and was afraid to vote on anything, lest he actually take sides and have a record to stand on any issue. He started running for president a very short time after he (dare I say WON) the election in Illinois and has been collecting his paycheck ever since. No one in history has ever resigned a Senate seat faster than Barack Obama (at least we are not still paying his salary I hope). Maybe we will get someone who actually cares about Illinois this time around. While probably not the best choice, Caroline is okay and I believe she will work herself up to the task. P.S. I wonder if the media will investigate her as they did Sarah Palin, after all she would be a “working mother” just like Sarah. I won’t hold my breath for that to happen.

I do think that if she had any class at all, given the name, that she would wait and earn the seat through PUBLIC campaigning for it in an election, and keep herself out of the mix until then. It appears that she wants to enter the Senate through the private, back-door entrance, and that is what makes me want to retch. And, I also agree that whomever replaces Senator Clinton, it would ideally be someone who supported her. That just makes sense. The people of NY deserve that much. I’m sure Caroline Kennedy is a perfectly nice woman, but this whole affair reeks of patronage and privledge. This is not a new kind of politics.
As far as Sharpton’s comments: they’re hysterical. What does he mean? I’m sure he doesn’t know. She’s done “concrete” things? Well, certainly better than abstract things. She’s “reduced” things in the city? Oh, so she went on a diet, did she. And she’s brought “tangibles” into the city. Guess that’s better than bringing intangibles into the city.

This is simply another round of the press PR for a candidate who brings zip to a position, other than image. And in Caroline Kennedy’s case, there is the history and the clout of the Kennedy name.
Sorry, but if I were a NY resident, I’d be absolutely steamed as the “magical mystery tour” came flying through my state again.
And Caroline Kennedy? Give this woman another pony, please. Maybe she’ll be satisfied with Macaroni 2 with a big, red bow.
Here’s what I think, though no one asked. We watched as Hillary took second place rather then fight. We were told that if she did fight she would have no political future. So she and Bill humbled themselves beyond belief so that Hillary could live to fight another day. Remember how we told ourselves that Hillary would be the most powerful person in the Senate? And then shortly after the election Nancy Pelosi told everyone she was the most powerful woman in Congress?
Now Hillary has accepted a position in the Obama administration, but why? Have they told her to get out? Did Ted not only freeze her out of the work for Universal Health Care but told her she was going to be frozen out of everything? That would put a little punch into his guarantees to the Gov of NY about giving Caroline and NY access and power in the Senate.
Already someone in Obama’s administration is undermining her as SOS, so what has she gained by not fighting? The Democratic nomination was stolen from her by liars and crooks, she is being kicked out of the Senate and how although we might have greats hopes for her as SOS I doubt she will ever be given a chance.
Hillary and Bill must are truly hated by the rulers of this country. That must mean they are the truly allies to the us, but they are being put in the attic.
How powerful are these people who run our country? I wish New Yorkers would try an experiment. I wish all of them would all tell the governor that they do not want Caroline as Senator and see how far they get.
What has Hillary got to loose now I wish she would stay in the Senate and use us to fight her battles.

At least, if she was gonna go down, it would have been with power and class.
What’s happening to her now is poignantly humiliating.
The only thing that this woman brings with her to our government is the ability to raise money. Lots and lots of money to continue the campaigns of the chosen Democrats that fit into the Washington landscape. No more little people stuff. If you live in a rural area or small town be very afraid. Your way of life is threatened. These people have no idea what its like to live paycheck to paycheck. Protect yourselves as our lives are going to be dictated by the Metropolitans who know whats good for you. You’re just hicks clinging to your guns and religion.
I read in the comment section of a news site (can’t remember which) that instead of the Gov. appointing somebody, they should let the Senator’s chief of staff (or other competent staffer) complete the term, leaving it open in the next election for the people to decide – without somebody getting an unfair advantage. I thought this was a great idea. If Caroline Kennedy wants this seat, she should start campaigning now for 2010 – just like everybody else.
I sure wish Hillary would stay on as senator. We need her there…

Thank you–why don’t more people acknowledge that he almost always looks like he’s spent the night doing something that’s probably not legal. H emay be clean but he’s got the ‘addict’ look, maybe that’s why the millions of drug users in this country identified with him.
One or two media types have likened this Senate seat to the “pay and play” of the other, and I agree. Who you are is more saleable than what you know.
Ultimately, the voters in New York will have their say, but I expect Ms. Kennedy to be crowned the winner.
Do we really want to keep buying the line that there are “public servants” working for the good of the country?

The Kennedeys think they are entitled to have these publiv positions! This is a democracy, you have to go there and get elected. Caroline believes she is entitled to this office! How dare anyone question her qualifications!
Will they be going through the Schlossberg’s trash cans, questioning their church’s tenets and finding out if her daughters are, have been or ever were pregnant before the age of 18? Will SNL do a skit about hubby Schlossburg ‘doing his daughters?’Will the anti-female Fey do her impersonation of a totally vapid, stupid Caroline Kennedy? I just can’t wait.

They [the Democratic leadership] will sing her praises, comment on everything she will bring to the job [ahem], and try to make us dream of Camelot. The sexist barrage that Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin endured is reserved for those women who actually have bite, women who are “problematic” because they have the audacity to speak their minds and are willing to fight like hell. Putting a token woman in who has the whiff of history to her name is suppose to satisfy women voters and hold the seat for the Democrats.
It’s an incredibly stupid, cynical idea. And I hope the Dems choke on it.
If Caroline Kennedy wants the job, let her get into the trenches, run a campaign and fight for it in 2010. That I would have respect for. This? Nada.
What character flaw would allow Caroline Kennedy to stand idly by and allow Obama, his advisors, and his minions in the media to demean a former First Lady and Senator, and the Governor of Alaska? She never had the courage to speak out against the misogyny. She would have done well to live by her “Profiles in Courage” awards. All women will have to pay the price for this travesty. Women’s rights have suffered immeasurably. Now she wants to be a Senator without ever having to perform. (Give it to me, I’m entitled.) Hopefully she will reap what she has sown. She is now fair game. Also, what is the difference between the “pay for play” in Illinois, and appointing Kennedy royalty in New York, Just because her name is Kennedy?

Either way, she has no qualifications other than raising money.
The telling sign here is how much “money she raised” That is the bottom line..if you can raise cold hard cash you are qualified.
