Blagojevich & Ethics: Barack Obama’s Public Relations Problem

(bumped up by Susan from this morning)

obama600

Not yet inaugurated, fierce Blagojevich supporter and Daley puppet Barack Obama already has a public relations problem as a result of his staff’s questionable engagement with Governor Rod Blagojevich, the man who attempted to sell Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder. According to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted on December 11-12, 2008 , the country was split over whether or not Obama or his aides were involved in the Blagojevich scandal.

How likely is it that President-elect Obama or one of his top campaign aides was involved in the Blagojevich scandal?
Very Likely 23%
Somewhat Likely 22%
Not Very Likely 35%
Not at all Likely 11%
Not Sure 10%

45% thought Obama or one of his campaign aides was involved in the scandal on 11-12 DEC, while 46% did not think they were implicated. But this has changed.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released today, more Americans believe Obama or one of his aides engaged in inappropriate conduct with Blagojevich than they did on 11-12 DEC 2008, a clear sign that voters are not swallowing the equivocations and prevarications of the Obama campaign hook, line and sinker.

Obama aides did something illegal 12%
Obama aides did not act illegally but behaved unethically 36%
Obama aides did nothing wrong 43%

What was a statistically even split on 11-12 DEC has now become a statistically significant consensus that Obama’s aides and, by implication, Obama did at least behave unethically when they communicated information about Barack Obama’s Senate seat to Blagojevich and Blagojevich’s aides during the month of November.

Sources claim Rahm Emanuel’s voice was recorded 21 times during the investigation of Blagojevich’s latest “pay to play” scheme, and we also know Emanuel submitted a list of candidates Obama approved to Blagojevich’s office during the month of November.

Obama will claim his internal review of his staff’s engagement with that of Blagojevich clears them of any wrongdoing. And Obama and his staff will make this claim the night before Christmas Eve at 4:30pm EST, when Emanuel is on his way to Africa and Obama is preparing for a memorial ceremony for his grandmother. Because neither will be available for questions, one can only surmise this is a coordinated attempt to bamboozle the American people. Americans are not so easily duped, however. Indeed, they understand that Obama investigating himself is not an actual investigation. This explains why an increasing number of Americans believe Obama and his staff behaved unethically.

48% to 43%: those are not numbers an incoming President desires to see before he is inaugurated. Indeed, it is difficult for a politician to be effective when a plurality of Americans view him and his administration as unethical. I guess change is something in which many cannot believe, especially when that change is promised by a career politician who again and again proves he is nothing more than a machine politician complicit with all that is wrong with Washington, DC.

What are you going to believe – what the selected one tells you or all of that “ridiculous” evidence? (Emanuel was recorded talking to Blagojevich about the Senate seat how many times?)

Comment by Bob | 2008-12-24 17:52:54

The poll says nothing….

says the nation is split, not to far away from the election vote….

obviously those people that did not vote for Obama likely are the ones that said they think Obama is involved with BO and those that voted for Obama are likely the ones who say he is not involved….

Obama’s overall approval is as high as it has ever been and in fact growing since the election…. so where precisely is the problem… if he has very high approval and about the same number of people who voted for McCain say he has a BO problem then what that says is that the majority of the people in the country do not care about the BO issue… except you haters on this website.

From Rasmussen

December 22, 2008
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Approval Index for Monday, December 22, 2008, shows that 43% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way Barack Obama is handling the role of President-elect while 15% Strongly Disapprove. Those figures give Obama a +28 rating, matching his highest level to date.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. Overall, 68% of voters somewhat or strongly approve of Obama’s performance so far while 29% disapprove. By way of comparison, 14% of all voters Strongly Approve of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president. Forty-three percent (44%) Strongly Disapprove. That gives the current President a -29 rating on the Presidential Approval Index.

The number who Strongly Approve of Obama’s performance has changed little since the election. The number who Strongly Disapprove, however, has fallen in half—from 32% immediately after the election to 15% today.

“Role of president-elect”? Oy, is this country in trouble or what, when people believe that the president-elect even HAS a role.
Maybe we (the media) should spend our (its) time investigating (detailing) some of the requirements of that “role” before asking how people feel that someone is handling the “role”.

I may have to disagree with you about Americans being not easily duped. Obama and his minions are headed to the White House, aren’t they? Why shouldn’t Obama believe that his ploy will work, what with a compliant media covering his butt at every turn? How soon will it be before CNN “revises” their poll to show the public believes Obama and his hoods are completely innocent?

You can keep hoping things will get so bad for Obama. Obama has become the Moby Dick to you Captain Ahabs. You are so obsessed with him and blindly desire his failure, i.e. whitey tapes, phony birth certificate, false Muslim religion claims, socialism, etc, that you’ll believe any nonsense. This non scandal is the lastest crumb you cling to for vindication of your O.D.S. (Obama Derangement Syndrome). On the first day this Blago thing broke, the prosecutor stated that Obama was accused of no wrongdoing. The prosecutor’s assertions are back up by the released transcript in which Blago complains about the Obama teams response. The usual Obama haters, Fox news, hate radio, and Scarborough keep this stoked now because they must in order to justify their bile. They seem foolish, demanding transcripts that are not in the Obama teams possession. Title III wiretaps are sealed by the court and can only be released by the prosecutor. the law allows release of the transcripts for judicial purposes, not to satisfy the press or even to aid the legislature in its impeachment proceeding. the public gets it (and a few smart repubs, i.e. Gingrich). This reflexive Obama hatred doesn’t hurt him. It makes his enemies look foolish.

You’re kidding, right? If you’ve monitored this blog you know that folks here were obsessed with the prospect of a leaked whitey tapte, birth certificate, etc. and how it would eventually bring Obama down when the American people got wind of it. As for the Blago thing, look up the prosecutor’s press conference. As for certain media response, check out any of the aforementioned news sources when this broke. I’m comfortable with my assertions.

The question I have is if Obama has a valid license to practice law doesn’t he have an obligation to report any demands Blagojevich made to Fitzgerald or the Illinois state Attorney General? Wouldn’t he have that same obligation as a member of congress? Come to think of it, what if he were aware of the corruption during his stint as a state senator?

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2008-12-24 11:23:35

Both he and MEchelle let their law licenses expire.

It’s to hard to represent people…Oh, wait…they’ve erred again on their career choice!

Comment by Lizzy | 2008-12-24 14:09:30

How do we know their law licenses lapsed? It is more believeable that they were disbarred for some misconduct.

Comment by skinny malinky | 2008-12-24 16:06:23

Do you really think that a disbarment wouldn’t have been mentioned? Good lord, people have made a hullabaloo about the birth certificate nonsense (verified as nonsense by the Supreme Court). Nice try, but try and invent some BS that is at least slightly plausible next time.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 16:11:06

What’s nonsense is taking out thousands of dollars in school loans (Micelle said they still owed on them) to get an Ivy League Law degree THEN never trying a case THEN giving up the law degree. Why would someone do that?

Comment by skinny malinky | 2008-12-24 16:45:25

This is another favorite trope of posters on this site; when confronted with anything you don’t have a quick pre-chewed response for, you just throw some other BS out there and hope it sticks. Your comment is a non-sequitor, strawberry, but as you probably know for selectively didn’t mention, Michelle worked as a lawyer. Not every lawyer is a trial case lawyer. And then they had families, and, like so many other women, she decided to be a full-time mother. Are you saying that was the wrong choice?

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:28:53

What? The cow took a job making 400,000 bucks a year for some hospital board. After her “husband” got elected. Yeah, she “earned” that kind of pay. Get real.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 21:58:59

Why do you feel the need to insult the man’s wife? I’ll just bet that you wouldn’t dare say that to her face. You seem really brave behind the safety of a computer screen, huh?

Comment by slobodaneee | 2008-12-24 22:55:43

Give it a rest. Unless I’m mistaken even O’Reilly on Fox during his Obama Chronicles debunked that nonsense.

Comment by skinny malinky | 2008-12-25 11:04:10

Comment by jbjd | 2008-12-24 23:02:25

BO failed to produce any evidence he took out law loans. MO did say they were poor, paying off law loans in the early 2000s; but income tax returns for those years failed to show any deductions for student loan interest payments. Interestingly, for those same years, her husband received an $8,000/month retainer from Robert Blackwell, owner of Killerspin, a table tennis company, after BO, then a part-time IL state senator, secured public funds for Blackwell to sponsor a table tennis tournament. (These are old stories, I have posted previously in numerous comments; links are all over the web.)

Comment by Kbentleyis | 2008-12-24 20:19:15

They actually gave up their licenses. My question to you, is why? After the ivy league educations and not to mention the difficult board exams… why give them up.

They did nothing wrong, they just gave them up. It is pretty tough to be reissued a law license. They must attend latest law classes, etc., and pass another exam. Seems senseless to me.

Come to think of it, what if he were aware of the corruption during his stint as a state senator?

O was so aware of corruption during his state senate time (have you read about the three felons on the hospital board he oversaw and some of the quid pro quos going on in that area alone), but for all the praises of the NYTs editorial board claiming that Obama stayed amazingly above the fray in the Chicago swamp politics, it’s clear he did not oppose that machine, needed that machine, benefited from that machine (even with his sweetheart home deal with Tony Rezko, not to mention his rise to power), and now is rewarding that machine. Hmm, despite the NYTs wiping O’s butt with their toilet paper, er newspaper, do you think Obama’s poop still stinks? Or is he above that too? Man, when you willingly slop the pigs, you’re gunna get dirty…this is what we should expect from believing the crock that Obama looked the other way in Chicago politics and that that was somehow OK to qualify him as a person of integrity.

So true. The bots will turn a blind eye to any and all wrongdoing, until the wrongdoing is directed point blank at them. For instance, lesbians and gays who jumped on the Obama kool-aid truck have now been betrayed (which the rest of us could see coming). More and more groups will get betrayed. Only then will they “wake up”.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2008-12-24 10:49:11

Only then will they “wake up”.

Not even then. The bots will find some way to blame the Clintons, as every other group of extremists has and does. They will never own their poor choices and utter naivete. The finger-pointing contines….

Obama is a cult. His zealots will not listen to reason because their choices are not based in reason. The rest of his voters are sheeple who dont think about much at all.

Odd that so many of them are here. I can’t claim to understand the mindset. Maybe victory leaves them feeling empty instead of happy?

Except that anyone who knows anything about public corruption investigations knows that the real test of whether a politician is on the take or corrupted is to be found not in internal investigations, but in investigations conducted by federal agents. And thus did Obama, Jarrett and Emanuel give interviews to agents from Fitzgerald’s office. The result? I am unaware of any statement by the USAO that Obama is a target, or that any staff is a target. Indeed, based on the information in the USAO’s hands at the time–which would have included taped conversations–the USAO publicly declared Obama and staff were not targets. No federal prosecutor would do so unless there was no evidence of smoke, let alone fire.

There is no there there. The “21 conversations on tape” thing has been debunked, and yet that does not stop those here from believing they occurred. There were conversations–one or two, according to the report–between Emanuel and Blago, but so what? That is to be expected.

I think this is a very small tempest in a very small teacup.

But keep beating the Obama-is-corrupt drum, facts be damned (and the facts you do not know).

Comment by xax | 2008-12-24 11:18:54

I think most people can admit that none of this will touch Obama personally. As for Rahm, I don’t know. This larger issue is that the man is tainted. Period.

Anytime you say that neither you, nor your staff had any contact with Blago, then your Chief of Staff’s voice shows up on the tapes tells alot of people something is not right with you or at least your team.

And Obama is corrupt. You do not rise out of the dirt of Chicago clean. If anything he did favors for people and people did favors for him. It happens in politics all the time, but I don’t care if it’s Obama, Clinton, or Stevens, I’m tired of constant favors and politicking. These people will sell out their constituents for power. Period.

Obama is no change. He’s just like the rest. Like Chomsky said, Obama is a brand. And people like you continue to buy into it. And becuase of your own blind faith, this country will always have crooks.

Comment by Publius | 2008-12-24 12:21:42

The report put out by Craig said that there were one or two conversations between Blago and Emanuel. Now, think about it. If there were more, and you know they were likely taped, you do not issue a report to the public declaring there were only one or two conversations. Because you know that the USAO knows there were more if there were more. And if the USAO knows there were 21 conversations, then you don’t mention it in the report. You do what Bush and Cheney do and go to ground and don’t say boo. That’s not what Obama’s team did. They said, definitively, there were one or two conversations. If there is evidence of 21 conversations, the Obama team would have been stultifyingly stupid to say otherwise.

On the flip saide, you tell me what the sourcing is for the 21 conversations. I will tell you that it came up for the first time in Michael Sneed’s column in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Sneed’s quote from the December 16 column is that Sneed “hears rumbles President-elect Barack Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, is reportedly on 21 different taped conversations by the feds — dealing with his boss’ vacant Senate seat!”

The sourcing? Uncited. Where did Sneed hear this? We don’t know. And all the other later day and next-day citations–on Fox, in other online newspapers, etc.–cite to the Sneed column.

You don’t throw out an unsubstantiated charge and then put the burden on the other side to show that the charge is unsubstantiated. That’s not how journalism works. So your argument is bunk.

I would have hoped by this point the frequent visitors to this site would have decided to wait and see when it comes to unsubstantiated claims about the existence of incriminating tapes.

Comment by getfitnow | 2008-12-24 13:57:48

Weren’t we first told there was NO contact by BO or team; then no contact re: senate seat; then no “inappropriate” contact. We still don’t know what the definition of “appropriate” is. I don’t trust him. Open your eyes and read Operation Board Games.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-12-24 14:33:56

unsubstantiated claims about the existence of incriminating tapes.

I did not see Mx.Sneed site a source for the info either, so one takes it at face value. What is it that a politician or a journalist needs that is critical to the career of a these people in public life?

One needs a sturdy reputation earned from consistant statements / actions.

BO has ZERO credibility and can NOT be trusted based on statements / actions.

Will Publius please cite where Mx. Sneed has gone of the rails in her reporting?

Publius, is it one or two calls? Which is it? You have to take the word of a lawyer who represents BO as a client? So the recent photo of Blago Man and BO published in the Gazzette with BO and Blagoman having a very serious looking conversation was about how to keep the eggs from freezing in the Rezko slums in the 313?

The problem Publius with the point you make is that the investigation has been on going for more than 10 years. That’s alot of tape.

The “21 conversations on tape” thing has been debunked

Hmm…have you heard the federal tapes yet? O may not (yet) be a target of this investigation, but no one has said that Rahm isn’t. Will O allow this investigation to run its course?

Comment by Publius | 2008-12-24 12:36:59

SeattleBruce, think. Why would anyone put out a report publicly declaring there were only 1 or 2 conversations if there was a chance that there were tapes of 21 conversations. That’s insanity. drop the anti-Obama stuff just for a moment and think.

I mean, look, I can imagine disdaining Obama just as I disdained Bush. I can see people hating the guy for his policies, the way he beat Hillary, the favoritism he receives by an adoring media, his perceived arrogance, all of that. I can. And that’s fine.

But when you completely abandon your objectivity and say that everything the guy does is corrupt, and everything must be tainted, you sound silly.

There will be 4 years of policies and other legitimate missteps to hammer him with. But this…come on. that’s where you lose credibility.

Comment by Cinie | 2008-12-24 13:22:00

Team O says they held up the report at the request of the US Attorney, but if you look at the timing, Fitz told them not to release their “internal investigation report” until he had an opportunity to question them. Emanuel didn’t volunteer anything until they played a tape of him talking to Blago. Stop reading the spin. The report they released yesterday is not the same one they had last week since the “interviews with” Fitz took place on the 18, 19 and 20th and Craig had to brief Obie about it on vacation in Hawaii.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 13:30:47

You stop creating spin. No one knows what was said in the interview, but the fact that they released the report without any challenges from Fitzgerald’s office is a clear sign to reasonable people that Obama and his team are in the clear. Face it, this ship has sailed, much like the whitey tap, the COLB lawsuit, etc.

A good number of us do not buy into all the promises Obama has made to make everything better for everyone. No, many of us thinking people still have a healthy skeptism about the man, his principles (or lack thereof), and the myth the MSM has created.

Where did I assert you are just suppose to bend the knee to Obama?Skeptism of politicians is all well and good, but many who post here believe every nutty thing the far right spews, whether it is based on fact or not. I am not asserting that you fall into that group because I can’t recall any of your previous posts, but I suspect you are by the tenure of your current post, i.e. demanding documentation (more birth certificate nonsense?). Many more of us thinking people voted for Obama because he was the best choice. As far as knowing everythng about a politician, how many people do you think knew about McCain dumping his first wife or the extent of his and his wife’s wealth prior to the election? PUMAs and conservatives can keep recycling the guilt by association meme, but it will fail with the American people.

Craig’s report states that Emanuel had “one or two telephone calls” with Blagojevich and four conversations with John Harris, the governor’s chief of staff who has since resigned after being charged. Craig told reporters Emanuel said he couldn’t be sure it was only one call.

The report said Obama authorized Emanuel to pass on the names of four people he considered to be highly qualified to take over his seat — Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes, Illinois Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth, Rep Jan Schakowsky and Rep Jesse Jackson Jr.

How many contacts does a suggestion of names take ? It’ll be very interesting to know what else comes out that an internal investigation ‘couldn’t be sure of.’

Keith, GMA, Letterman, Katie, virtually everyone on TV is working hard, oh so very hard, this Christmas Eve to show how poor Barack is being unfairly tainted by the poop of others. Not to worry, he’ll be compared to the travails of Abe during the Civil War and JFK during the Missile Crisis any day now, and they’ll predict this will make him a stronger leader.

Just you wait.

Comment by NoTrollZone | 2008-12-24 12:31:45

Ah yes the “stronger leader” bit. I do believe you’re right. Every stupid thing he does will be
swept joyfully away by the MSM. Big stupid mistake?
Well, then Kennedy had the “bay of pigs”.
So much room to be stupid and not held responsible.

I wish there would be a special investigation into the MSM and their role in the BS. But who would appoint the investigator? I suppose it would be an Obama fanatic.

Everyone seems to have forgotten how untouchable Bush was. It is the same now with Obama, and no wonder he likes Reagan. Reagan’s Right didn’t let any criticism get in their way either. Criticism of our president and the policies he enacts in our name with out money is not a fault. People come in here and talk like we’re doing something illegal by pointing out that Obama’s entire history makes his plans for policy something to be watched very closely, especially when he appoints people like LaHood to run money centers like building out infrastructure. I would have preferred he appoint Pope Paul or someone like that rather than someone Kass identified as” LaHood (R-Combine)”. It doesn’t inspire confidence in us infidels.

and Obama is preparing for a memorial ceremony for his grandmother

-How much planning went into this? Was this something that was in the works right afte her death, or was this put together within the last couple of days as a way to take the heat off of Obama? It’s very convenient. ..I’m just saying.

He’s using her and her memory right up until the very end.

I can just imagine how all of this will play out.

Journalist: “PEBO, can you comment on the revelation that your chief of staff did in fact talk to Blago?”

Obama: “Can’t you see I’m having a memorial service for my grandmother?”

Obama and the people surrounding him are ruthless, and I wouldn’t put anything past him. at.all.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 11:24:24

It takes a sad, petty person to accuse someone of using his deceased grandmother’s memory for political cover. How about this: If your parents and or grandparents are still alive, why don’t you call them and wish them a Merry Christmas? If they live in the same city or town, go visit them and show them how much you love and appreciate them. That’s a more constructive use of your time than hurling insults and negative comments towards your President-Elect on the internet. The Obama family is in mourning. Show some respect and human decency. Don’t let hate ruin your life and the lives of others around you.

You make the claim that ” a more constructive use of your time than hurling insults and negative comments towards your President-Elect on the internet.”

A more constructive use of your time would be to try commenting in a manner that isn’t so condescending. Moreover, you might try commenting where people are actually receptive to “hearing” what you have to say. That is to say, fuck off.

PS You state that, “It takes a sad, petty person to accuse someone of using his deceased grandmother’s memory for political cover.”

Obama has already used his grandmother as “political cover”, e.g. the greatest speech on race EVAH! But hey, hope springs eternal for those with selective amnesia.

I still haven’t forgotten that Obama visited the FBI just before the election. I wonder what that was about. Anyway, I don’t believe Fitzgerald is going to do anything to bring down a sitting president. In the midst of Obama’s big roll-out of saving the economy, he is not going to be indicted. IMO, if he was going to be indicted, he would have been already. I’m just hoping Fitz can ride herd.

Comment by NoTrollZone | 2008-12-24 13:15:27

Annie O,
I don’t really think it’s going to be Fitzgerald that gets Obama. I think he is going to weaken Obama’s underpinnings– cast enough doubt on Obama that someone else– like a news outlet is going to feel it is time to vet Obama, for real.
I think Fitzgerald’s usefullness in revealing Obama’s corruption, is that Fitzgerald will already have the witnesses and the evidence firmly established to whatever degree he gets close.
Then I think (only guessing-of course) that a news story will break. Remember there was only the slightest drip before the Watergate dam broke.
That’s what I’m thinking.

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2008-12-24 13:37:40

Hey NTZ,
Did you know that the Republican Illinois senator, also named Fitzgerald, who coined the term Illinois Combine, was the one responsible for getting Operation Boardgames started? The senator Fitzgerald wasn’t even renominated by his own party. So, this investigation got started in 2003. I know the wheels of justice turn slowly, but I’ve lost all confidence during Bush that they will turn at all. Anyway, I hope you are right. There are always unforeseen consequences and no one knows what the future holds. I only hope that great good can comes out of all of this, since sometimes things that look bad turn out to be good and vice a versa.

Is the competition that fierce in the shallow end of the distribution that you have to muck things up here? Is it a need to be the center of attention?Or, are you on a “mission”? Is this your “crusade”? Have you finally found a cause that is “righteous”?

It is sad to witness someone who can brook no criticism of that which they find so dear, e.g. Dear Leader.

I might add, you offer no arguments to support your assertions. Usually when one wants to persuade others, they make the effort. To simply feign pity and then chastise (that is what you are doing) is patronizing.

That is tres amusant given that AOK has been lecturing others for criticizing Dear Leader and not holding the “correct” view. That is, anyone who does so is hateful, disrespectful, and if they don’t like Obama, maybe they should move out of the country.

Oh, so objectivity = Obama defenders? That’s funny. The nature of discussion and debate is that people don’t always agree. When someone disagrees with you, it’s usually over a different take on some set of facts and perceptions of facts (and yes, sometimes what the actual facts are, is obscured by various reasons and means.)

But just because some people here suspect Barack has not been as forthcoming as he should on the facts of the Blago case, et al, doesn’t mean that they are biased and you are not!

I mean at the end of the day the only completely pure objectivity exists in the fantasy minds of the US press corps – who fashion themselves that way.

Laughable!

The Obama family is in mourning.

Barack did not visit his own dying mother, Ann Dunham (he later scattered her ashes from a beach in Oahu.) He also did not attend his grandmother’s memorial service, nor her funeral. Those are also facts Publius and AOK:

==============
By HERBERT A. SAMPLE – 1 day ago
HONOLULU (AP) – The late grandmother of President-elect Barack Obama was eulogized Friday as a strong, vibrant woman who was dedicated to her profession and her family.
About 150 friends, former co-workers and others gathered to pay their respects to Madelyn Dunham at a 45-minute ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
Dunham died Nov. 2 at the age of 86, two days before Obama won the presidency. She and her late husband, Stanley, raised him from 1971 until he graduated high school and left Hawaii in 1979.
Neither Obama nor his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, attended.

Unfortunately, this did not come out before the election. Obama deserves this and I’m glad that the corruption he was involved with for 20 years has followed him to the White House. The 43% of people who believe Obama and his aides are innocent are the koolaid drinkers who think Obama is an angel and can do no wrong. Half of those people will be like the remaining 15% or so of the country who still have a positive opinion of G.W. Bush. Their heads are so far up their asses that they can’t see the shit surrounding them.

For our holiday present we should all wish for Rezko or Blago to come out with the truth incriminating Obama in something criminal around the inauguration. I think sooner or later the truth will come out either as a deal with the Feds or in a book deal.

Comment by JS Ruby | 2008-12-24 11:13:18

As much as I would like Rezko and Blago to tell all, I am sure they are just waiting for Jan 21 to get pardoned. Remember Scooter?

Comment by DisenfranchisedVoter | 2008-12-24 11:21:36

I still go to HillaryIs44 and I think they made some really great points that maybe Rezko isn’t waiting for a pardon
http://www.hillaryis44.org/?p=803

6. If Rezko wants to avoid a very very long prison sentence Rezko needs to “flip” on someone that Fitzgerald needs evidence on for a conviction. Clearly today’s developments destroy Blagojevich and Fitzgerald does not need further evidence to do Blogojevich in. As we wrote a while back, if Rezko wants to avoid jail, Obama is his “get out of jail free” card. Rezko must flip on Obama to get out of jail. We have documented that the prosecutor is looking into the Obama/Rezko house deal, which stinks.

7. When we stated immediately above that Obama is Rezko’s “get out of jail free” card we do not mean by getting a pardon from Obama. We mean that Fitzgerald and Rezko have to keep the calendar in mind. Fitzgerald acted against Blagojevich in an emergency fashion today before full indictments are ready and ripe. Fitzgerald will likely act further and hopefully soon. Rezko too needs to cooperate fully well before the inauguration in January. What does Tony Rezko know and when will he say it?

8. Patrick Fitzgerald must be reappointed as federal prosecutor and not fired. PINO Big Blogs and Dimocrats (along with us) praised Fitzgerald when he was chasing George W. corruption. Fitzgerald has hunted down Republicans and Democrats. Fitzgerald might be the next Archibald Cox or the next Leon Jaworski. Keep hunting Pat.

Wow, you’ve said this more than once. Going quietly into the night, includes a complicit press not doing their jobs – are you proud, happy about that? What does that portend for the future of this nation and the US Constitution (in the case of the birthplace and dual citizenship issues) – forget about Obama for one second – will you?

Obama’s approval ratings are very high, around 78%.

Does this matter re: corruption?

Meaning that the majority of Americans like what he’s doing so far.

Meaning that the complicit press has not done their jobs on many, many stinky issues surrounding the chosen one. By the way, does it bother you that Obama benefited from the Chicago political largesse? Should that not concern us – at all? Are you willing to at least admit that that is troubling?

Comment by Buzz Latte | 2008-12-24 13:48:11

78% approval rating??? AOK just busted him/herself.

Real Clear Politics has it at 56.3 and steadily dropping from a high of 56.8.

had the goods on Blago (and others).
I guess the wheels of justice move slowly, eh?
But think of how long it took to get Nixon. The watergate break in was prior to the election, if memory serves.
Information is slow to come out. But with Fitzgerald on the trail and building the case, perhaps something good will come of it.

Well, certainly nobody involved in the Obama campaign has done anything unethical or illegal. I’ve watched the reports on the news on television. Obama has conducted his own investigation and has not uncovered any wrongdoing.

End of story, citizens. Move along now. There’s nothing to see here.

It is amazing to me that the media is actually reporting this as if there’s nothing more to be done.

Just because they cannot nail him on something (they had to know Blago was being tapped), does not mean he is not guilty. He is too cunning and duplicitous for that.

Obama is guilty of lying – repeatedly – to the the American public. He lied in his first statement about no contact with Blagojevich. He lied about Wright, Rezko, NAFTA, etc. etc. etc. Anyone see a pattern here?

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 13:17:07

Really? He himself had no contact with Blagojevich. His staff had limited contact that was deemed appropriate. How is that a lie? Also, what lie did he tell about Wright and Rezko? And what lie did he tell about NAFTA? Please be specific.

Comment by SeattleBruce | 2008-12-24 13:23:41

Really? He himself had no contact with Blagojevich. His staff had limited contact that was deemed appropriate.

AOK – O had contact through his staff – who gives Rahm his marching orders if not Obama? Is Obama in charge of his staff or not? If not, perhaps we’ve got a greater issue/story. O claimed not to have had any contact with Blago, but he clearly did through his staff.

Or are you going to argue about what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is with us?

Oh, and exactly who deemed the contacts from O’s staff with Blago as appropriate again?

Also, read about the House deal here on No Quarter.

Also google Mechelle’s new job after Odrama was head of the Health and Human services committee.

all fascinating!

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2008-12-24 19:48:29

So let me see this straight, Ted Bundy didn’t kill anybody until it was listed in the indictment. There fore officers that investigated him shouldn’t have done so cause it wasn’t listed in an indictment. they should have just taken Bundy’s word that he didn’t chop up anybody. And hey everyone thought he was such a nice person so he must not a have done it.

We also need to let Manson out, he wasn’t present at any the Tate or LeBlanch murders and everyone that carried it out was a bunch of grown behind free agen adultss. But alas his behind is in jail. Not getting caught is not innocence. Neither is being aquitted. What it says is that they don’t have enough evidence to charge you or to convict you, but it doesn’t mean you didn’t do it, and it doesn’t mean you arent slime. Case in point William Ayers.

Also, why did Obama endorse Blago, and really help run Blago’s campaign with Rahm in 2002 – no big deal, just gulp some more kool-aid and it all washes down (and out…) Just pray that no one in the press, denies their true Belief in the one…

The thing about the Blago *scandal* for me, is not that I think Obama engaged in any deal making with Blago. I think Obama is FAR TOO arrogant to feel that he *needs* to give anyone anything for doing what he wants. Why should he *give* Blago anything, to seat who he wants? I don’t think Obama feels he should, now that he is PEBO. AND, I don’t think he really cares that much about who gets the seat…

For me, the problem was the way he handled the situation, from the second he uttered, “I am saddened and sobered”. barf. And he has been ducking and hiding since. What happened to all this *transparency*???

I also think that the problem is that he KNOWS Blago is corrupt, and knew that Blago wanted to make deals, but Obama acted shocked that Blago was corrupt.

And now, after waiting all this time for his Internal report (what a joke) they still don’t say exactly how many times they talked – once or twice? Which is it? ONCE or TWICE? A lot can happen on a phone call.

Also, they didn’t release any emails or text messages…

Nixon said he would have an open administration.
Just like Bambi says. And both are so “open.”

Obama’s starting to say Nixon-isms:

Let me make this perfectly clear

Let me make this abundantly clear

Nixon and Obama were/are both crooks. They both go overboard in political election malfeasance.

It seems some in the media just may be asking questions of the One:

To the extent that the report succeeds in its goal of establishing the distance between Obama and Blagojevich, it necessarily raises the question: Why was the president-elect and leader of the Democratic party playing no role in a key appointment to national office being made in his home state, and by a Democratic governor?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/16836

Barack knew somehow to keep his distance from Blago – Of course he was later “sobered and saddened” as per usual e.g., Wright, Rezco, Ayers, etc. The same pattern emerges: This has Barack’s bamboozling and hoodwinking all over it.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 13:34:37

Comment by mel | 2008-12-24 13:17:14

Ok troll to begin with the affidavit of which the charges were laid was against Blago, not Odumbo and yet Team Odumbo people were mentioned many times in the affidavit having numerous contacts with Blago and if you knew the workings of your pathological lying leader you’d know he always sends surrogates to do his biddings in order to keep his appearance as clean.

Second if Odumbo has nothing to do with any wrong doings then why did he have the web scrubbed of any articles that say differently?

Third, Rezko did an internal investigation when he was being accused by Fitz and claimed the charges were fabricated and bogus and he’d be vindicated and set free, the same Rezko who aided Odumbo in a shadey home buying deal, you know the kind that Michell claims can’t keep your house in order how will you keep the WH in order, so sleeze is the name of the game in an Odumbo WH, since taking his own wifes words as more than “JUST WORDS!

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2008-12-24 13:24:31

Okay, since you’re calling us all “haters” and claiming Obama and his boyz have done nothing wrong, explain this (from the indictment):

On November 12, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH talked with Advisor B. ROD BLAGOJEVICH discussed with Advisor B his idea for a 501(c)(4) organization. Advisor B stated that he likes the idea, but liked the Change to Win option better because, according to Advisor B, from the President-elect’s perspective, there would be fewer “fingerprints” on the President-elect’s involvement with Change to Win because Change to Win already has an existing stream of revenue.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 15:16:08

But they didn’t. I suggest you read this again. Except read the entire indictment objectively. Advisor B works for Blagojevich, not Obama. I guess if you read it enough times, your hatred will convince you that Obama did something wrong.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 15:20:49

This is an indictment against Blago you twonk. And just what do you think Blago will say to stay out of jail? This question has both you and Barky stewing in ballsoup.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 16:49:31

Exactly. So if Obama is not the target of the indictment, why are you wasting so much time trying to tie him into it? As I’ve stated, this Blagogate issue will go the way of the whitey tape, the COLB issue and all the other cockamamie you PUMAs have tried to link Obama to.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 19:24:19

Gawd. It’s like talking to a five year old. Blago is a criminal, Barky had dealings with a criminal. Two if you count Rezco and the house thingy. What will Barky do to cover his tracks? And who is he beholden to? Who will he have to appease to keep further dealings quiet, who will he have to pay off? Will he have the best interest of YOU and the rest of the US at heart or will he be busy trying to cover his ass? if these questions don’t concern you then please do the rest of us a favour and swallow your tongues.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 20:30:49

Bill Clinton’s lieutenant governor, who assumed the office of governor after Clinton became president, later went to jail. So, by your rules, Bill Clinton “had dealings with a criminal”.

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2008-12-24 17:32:16

UCB, I’m guessing that you make the assumption that Advisors A and B work for Blago based on this:

101. On November 10, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH, his wife, JOHN HARRIS, Governor General Counsel, and various Washington-D.C. based advisors, including Advisor B, discussed the open Senate seat during a conference call. (The Washington D.C.-based advisors to ROD BLAGOJEVICH are believed to have participated on this call from Washington D.C.). Various individuals participated at different times during the call. The call lasted for approximately two hours, and what follows are simply summaries of various portions of the two-hour call.

I read it as additional advisors who are not being specified in the indictment. All we know for sure is that the advisors were in Washington. It doesn’t make much sense to me, all blinded by my hate and all, to think that Blagojevich was negotiating with himself. It seems clear that they were asking what the president-elect could do for him and thus it still makes more sense to think those advisors in Washington were working the federal end of the deal.

I will concede this, though, at one point Blago instructs Advisor A “to call Individual A and have Individual A pitch the idea of the 501(c)(4) to “[President-elect Advisor].” This does indicate that Advisor A was a step removed from the President-elect’s advisor.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 16:59:09

You are a fine one to complain about immature reasoning. Are you a federal prosecutor? I doubt it. the prosecutor went out of his way to state that there was no wrongdoing with regard to Obama. The prosecutor’s assertions are supported by the released transcript in the federal complaint. Perhaps you should open up your brain to the possiblity that Obama isn’t guilty of anything as it relates to the present issue. by the way, did you believe in the false whitey tape or birth certificate nonsense? if you did, it says more about your reasoning than AOK.

That must be some seductive Kool-aid the O-bots are swilling, but they should consider just how fitting is any taint Obama experiences from the Blago affair.

After all, their very own Messiah pointed out to them during the Primary that Hillary Clinton was “tainted” by the right-wing attacks she endured (one of the first bamboozles for which the O-bots fell). And thus began a character assault against Clinton that lasted throughout the campaign.

Maybe the Prescient One is yet again clueless and pure as corruption swirled around him (right!!); but this unlikelihood notwithstanding, the question of His ethics in this case, and, certainly in light of His past behavior and associations, is right on the mark. And of course, given the One’s use of character assassination in the past, the irony can’t be missed!

He’s starting to remind me of Forrest Gump.

Good one, Annie. He’s also being made out to be as “clueless and pure” as Chance Gardner of Being There. Oh, if this were only a sweet, simple fantasy like those two movies were, and not a Shakespearian tragedy, like the present production, which I believe is now only in Act II.

Let’s wait to see what the actual investigation releases. 12% of Americans who think Obama or his aides did “something illegal” is 12% of Americans who haven’t followed any of the facts of the case. No one knows anything like that, because not enough facts are known.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 19:45:13

Oh please. Take it somewhere else. Most Americans wouldn’t buy a house with someone like Rezco or endorse a dirtbag like Blago…twice…without knowing which way the Chicago wind blows. If you would do business with the like of those two then you’re a dirtbag too. Who gives a shit if it’s legal, it’s unethical.

Comment by wodiej | 2008-12-24 19:48:42

I’ll second that….birds of a feather flock together.

Comment by Ferd Berfle | 2008-12-24 19:52:31

Exactly–the Obamabots are as bad as the Bushbots who came before them. So much for taking the high road. I guess all that honor and integrity which was promised to be brought back to the WH way back in 2000 will have to wait at least another four years. Meet the new crook, same as the old crook.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 20:07:08

But most American voters went for Obama. So much for your deep understaning of Americans.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:18:42

No actually, Hillary won the popular vote. But most people got so pissed off when she got politically raped, many stayed home rather than vote against their best interests. I’m guessing many people on both sides would like a November 4th. do over. I’m sure they feel this info would have been nice to know beforehand. PS you’re a dirtbag to defend this sort of behavior.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 20:27:24

Well actually, genius, I was referring to the general election. But obviously, Obama won the popular vote of the primaries, too. PS, you’re a pathetic, dead-end loser to still be arguing this point.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:34:28

Um, no he didn’t. Check the numbers. You can wiki them if you have to. By the by, the ad hominem attack is the last refuge of a failed argument. Happy Holidays!

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 20:40:48

Why don’t you post them yourself, loser?

How does it feel, to have lost not just once, but TWICE?

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:46:12

Because they have been posted here ad nausium. And you’re not worth the effort. But I’m sure you hear that in response to you bar pick up lines all the time. You’re not very much fun. It’s like kicking a puppy.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 20:53:20

I don’t have bar pick up lines. I’m happily married. 9 years!

Comment by Donna Brazile | 2008-12-24 21:11:33

Oh, a pretender for nine years!

Stop the hate!

Just callin it like I see it. You’ve been on this site for six hours on Christmas Eve defending Oblahme. Surely, you have something better and HAPPIER to do!

Stop the hate!

My wife’s in Eqypt with her mother, who’s dying. So, yes, there are things I’d rather be doing, and people I’d rather be with. Again, shame on you.

My apologies! I could see why you’d want to spend all your time here.

Oh and don’t forget that Barky outspent Mccain 8 to 1 in a year a dead, decomposing pile of cat sic should have won.

McCain-Feingold killed it’s creator. This is called irony.

You were a Bushbot before you were an Obamabot, huh?

Surely you jest?

Comment by Linda C. | 2008-12-24 19:56:51

I really don’t think anything will come of this. The coy “appreciation” is something that is subtle and thus cannot be explored to mean anything since it means everything and nothing.

Blago is the Gov of Ill and any business having to do with Ill and the gov, they have to talk to him. We do not know the content of the conversations.

Do I think Obama is corrupt..sure. but this isn’t going to amount to much

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:02:45

I disagree Linda. It will make it impossible for Obama to lead. He is weak and will be eaten alive by people on both sides. This is what Hillary tried to warn us about. He won’t be able to govern. Remember the problems Bill had after Monica? And Bill is TEN TIMES the man and intellect Barky is. Barky isn’t strong enough to withstand the tsunami headed his way. And we’re the ones going to suffer.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 21:50:58

Hillary lost to him and now she’s working for him. Who’s the weak one again?

Comment by slobodaneee | 2008-12-25 01:19:48

Nice. No pithy comeback Strawberry?

Listen up everybody! To all the bots trying to dig their cute little head in the sand and insult us while they do it. I would like to ask one question. Michael Jackson has been accused of molestation twice, and never found guilty. How many of you would let your kids especially a preteen male go and spend the night with Michael unsupervised?

And if OJ hadn’t played mission impossible recently, how many of you would let him date a female member of your family or if you were female would date him?

Most sane people answered no to those questions. It’s called be cautious, it’s called common sense. It’s called good judgment. If you don’t want to have fore sight and protect yourself fine. But don’t come on this board and talk junk and not buying Obama/Jones/Koresh BS. Just because we choose not to wander aimlessly around a SuperWalmart Parking lot at 2 am doesn’t make us stupid. Neither does not trusting man who has surrounded himself with extremely corrupt and hateful behind people.
Now click your heels and say there’s no place like the Daily Kos or shush it.

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:20:58

You are too cool. LOL.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 20:37:50

Wow: you just compared President-Elect Obama to a child molestor, and a wife-murderer. Oh, and both of them just happen to be black. Stay classy, San Diego!

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2008-12-24 20:41:27

If I remember correctly, kgirl is AA.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-24 23:01:51

Right, that absolves it. Comparing our President-Elect to a child molestor and/or wife murderer is fine as long as it is done by an “AA”.

Comment by slobodaneee | 2008-12-25 00:12:53

So what if Kgirl is AA?

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-25 00:31:57

I think everyone at NQ has been “AA” at one point or another. So, it’s cool. No! Hold your tongue! It’s cool!

AOK’s comment at 13:37, “Obama gave you what you needed to know”, disgusts me. I’m surprised nobody jumped AOK for that remark. We don’t want what Obama, or AOK, or anyone else, thinks we need to know. We’re perfectly capable of forming our own opinion from the evidence of our own eyes, but evidently if our opinion conflicts with “that one’s” opinion or the opinion of his supporters, we in opposition are treated as lesser beings intellectually. Boring trolls.

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-24 21:47:10

He did. You just chose to carry on with your foolish hopes that he is somehow guilty.

Comment by Frank Lloyd Wright | 2008-12-25 00:01:16

BTW, the emptiness of your “cause” is belied by the fact that your hero, Larry Johnson, is selling not one but BOTH of Obama’s books on this website. Oh, and f*ck you Larry. Ugliest man on the planet, I swear. Get a f&cking haircut, will you?

Comment by AOK | 2008-12-25 16:33:42

Yet they call us kool-aid drinkers. Ah, the irony…

AOK, FrankLloydWright, others

It is very refreshing to see some rational people on this board. I swear its really like talking to preschoolers when posting here.

PUMAbot:
“Odumbo is a corrupt foreigner! He hung around with Ayers, Rezko, Wright, etc. He obviously was involved in the Blago scandal!

Rational Person:
“Fitzgerald already said that he did nothing illegal or unethical and he didn’t even talk to Blago

PUMAbot:
“He’s from Chicago! He obviously did something wrong!”

Rational Person:
“Why would Fitzgerald lie?”

PUMAbot:
“Odumbo must have gave him some of his “magical kool-aid” and forced him to do his evil bidding in his plot to take over the world!” You know he’s the Anti-Christ, kool-aid drinker, but you’re too stupid to see it!”

(Rational Person puts his head into his hands)
