NY Daily News: Camelot must be Gaelic for chutzpah.

Ok Ok, bear with me here. The Caroline crap just keeps sliding off the walls! How can you expect Uppity to pass this “stuff” up?

Under the byline, “Say Good Night, Caroline,” what more is there to say?

In the beginning, just three long weeks ago, the idea of Caroline Kennedy being a United States senator had a certain ring to it. The Camelot myth still has shelf life and a merger with the historic Obama presidency provided an intriguing story line.

……..snip……..

Some top Democrats were certain Gov. Paterson, a close-to-the vest electorate of one, would find Kennedy irresistible now and as a running mate in two years. All others were chopped liver next to her sudden star power.

But a strange thing is happening on the way to the coronation. The wheels of the bandwagon are coming off. Fantasy is giving way to inescapable truth.

That truth is that Kennedy is not ready for the job and doesn’t deserve it. Somebody who loves her should tell her.

Her quest is becoming a cringe-inducing experience, as painful to watch as it must be to endure. Because she is the only survivor of that dreamy time nearly 50 years ago, she remains an iconic figure. But in the last few days, her mini-campaign has proved she has little to offer New Yorkers except her name.

Her handlers and family enablers insist she feels no entitlement to the Senate job, yet there is no other possible reason to give it to her. Her name is the sole reason she even dares go for it. Camelot must be Gaelic for chutzpah.

New York can do better.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

Now come on Caroline.

You were a really cute little “First Daughter”. Seriously.

I know your father died a horrible senseless death. I have seen some horrible senseless deaths in my own family, so I am with you there. I know you are without parents. So am I. So are plenty of people. But we have to grow up and make our own way, Caroline. Even if our name is “Kennedy”.

adeb59a804_caroline11212007New York is in enough shit already, Caroline.

Get thee onto your pony and leave this job to somebody who can do it and actually wants to do it.

Tell Uncle Teddy you are sorry, but he isn’t going to use you to engrave his Monarchy into American government for eternity. It is increasingly clear that he put you up to this. Explain to him that, in the end, he is just a man. Tell him to make some more important, less self-absorbed efforts at his own Peace. Like say, with Mary Jo. Tell him, you are sorry but this isn’t for you. Then people can stop counting how many times you say, “I mean, “Like, you know…”. We are all starting to feel sorry for you, Caroline, and this is not a good position for JFK’s daughter to be in, is it?

Listen, sister: Go to the Met and take in La Boheme tomorrow. The Magic Flute starts Tuesday. Two Knockouts you shouldn’t miss. I would kill for your seats, girl!

Redecorate the penthouse. “Write” another book that consists of other people’s writings. Lend your name to a couple of worthy causes that don’t require you to be articulate. Go do what you really want to do: Help Bloomberg change the Term Limits law. Why, a couple of nice cocktail parties and you will be good to go, sister! You go girl! You go away, girl!

I bet that if the Chicago Senate seat for sale hadn’t broke, this would be a done deal. Money does that to people. After the Democrat’s Primaries when so many delegates switched allegiances (for money), it showed what the party is most fond of. Elections cost alot of money. I thought we were working our way through all that with the McCain/Feingold Bill and the candidate’s promise to take Federal funds. But after the most expensive election in history behind us, that monster is gonna keep growing. Thats where a Kennedy comes in. I pray Gov. Patterson has more integrity than that.

See link above where audio of a Caroline interview purports that she says “you know” 138 times. Between Barry’s “uhhs” and her “you knows,” it is no wonder they communicate so well.

personally i don’t think paterson has the necessary equipment to say no. in fact on fox they said he would choose her. i don’t see new yorkers going through the next election for senate there putting up with “ahhhhhhhhhh, you know,” etc from caroline as an excuse for a speech. i predict if indeed she is selected, then she’ll be out the door when voters decide.

If Caroline Kennedy can be seriously considered and leap frog over qualified candidates, why not Harriet Christian?

Here is a contrast, decide for yourself:

I would support Harriet 100%. I know that she will stand up for what is right! That, to me, should be qualification numero uno!

Comment by jvsp | 2008-12-29 11:24:45

To have someone in the Senate like Harriet Christian would be refreshing!

Comment by Faith | 2008-12-29 16:32:36

I would love to be a mouse in the corner of the Senate to watch Harriet upset some of their cushy apple carts.
Better yet Harriet from New York and in a couple of years Palin from Alaska. Talk about rocking the status quo.

Welcome to the Age of Obama.

Experience doesn’t matter anymore, her problem is that people don’t “like” her.

And shes female, so the bar is much higher.

Sorry Caroline.

Maybe you can be born male next round, then you would be a shoe-in.

Comment by fif | 2008-12-29 10:37:35

So true. We have endured Obama “uhing and ummming” his way through every debate and unscripted moment for months, and no one pointed that out.

I do feel sorry for Caroline at this point. She’s so over her head, and obviously being directed by people who are not giving her good advice. That being said, she should have had the insight and humility to have refused the opportunity in the first place.

If she is truly inspired to help now, great. There are many ways she can use her name, money and influence to help NY and the country. That does not, however, start with being a US Senator. I’m just glad Goodwin finally said it out loud.

mediocrities abound…chuckle…and CK is a fine example of trust fund mediocrity…

Comment by NoBamaNoWay | 2008-12-29 22:12:10

i agree; it seems like faux outrage – too little, too late. a black male who has never accomplished anything except promoting himself via affirmative action and behind the scenes puppet-masters is going to be our next president, but now all of the sudden qualifications matter when it comes to CK. hey, she raised a lot of money for Ozero; isn’t that a qualification?

Comment by wodiej | 2008-12-29 10:07:11

well Patterson may be able to select her but she’ll only serve a few years until NY voters have a say. If they are that damn stupid to put someone in office that won’t do shit for their state and is running on a name, they deserve what they get. Unfortunately, the stupidity of others usually ends up affecting the rest of us by bailouts, shitty economy, etc.

Comment by mountainaires | 2008-12-29 10:10:55

Ha, Amen Sister! This is truly cringe-inducing in gigantic proportions, “you know?”

You know? You Know? You Know?

What on earth were they thinking?!

After the the scorched earth smearing of Gov. Sarah Palin for having “no experience?!”

It’s like Oh_My_God! You know?!

bwahahahahahahahahahahaha…..

She only did this so she could keep Cuomo out, because “the family” hates him since the divorce?

bwahahahahahahahahahaha…

She is ridiculous, pathetic, and the supreme dilettante. Crawl back into your comfy little elitist life Caroline! You’re making a complete fool of yourself here.

kenosha Marge is right….being “disagreeable” may be the way to go….keep fighting!! WE have to keep our integrity and fight the good fight!!

Marge’s post pertains to Rick Warren…but applies to the Kennedy situation as well. And, my mother tells me she heard the Ted want Vicki to take HIS seat in the Senate when he goes???

Our chutzpah has to outgun the DC elite’s chutzpah!

On Being “Disagreeable”

“I have a new yardstick for what I find tolerable these days. I ask myself would I accept this Warren fellow if George Bush chose him?”

Substitute Kennedy, etc. for Warren and ask yourself that question all the time!!

Caroline is as capable as Barack and deserves to be a Senator just as Barack deserves to be President.

Hey, MSM, what are you doing? Aren’t you supposed to be singing alleluia to Caroline as you sang alleluia to Barack? Why stop now??

Go for it!!

Comment by HC | 2008-12-29 10:42:25

Too bad JFK Jr. is unavailable. I am sure he would be selected to universal applause.

Comment by fif | 2008-12-29 10:44:13

They were already talking about him as a possibility for the seat when HRC first ran. If he had lived, he would have been president. It’s that simple. Between the family aura, his looks, and the money that would have been behind him, it wouldn’t have mattered how many times he flunked the bar. I went to school with him: he was a nice, if self-involved guy, but not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

As a NYC resident, I take exception to this latest disregard of the will of the people.

I like Caroline well enough, but am totally against the new Christmas gift Uncle Ted is trying to secure for her. This is on the same level as the Blagojevich scandal (AND WHAT A SCANDAL IT IS, WITH OBAMA, JARRETT, EMANUEL AND REZKO AT THE CENTER OF IT)

I hope others outside of NY make their dissenting voices heard about this. If the Capitol Hill goons want to sell Senate seats, then maybe we’ll have to impose regulations on how they do it. Those seats belong to the residents of the state, so sell them – and then put the money into the infrastructure of the respective states or the pockets of the residents.

Comment by fif | 2008-12-29 10:42:02

One other side benefit to all of this: the contrast clearly illustrates how razor sharp, prepared, and brilliant HRC is. For those dopes comparing HRC to Caroline, they obviously know nothing of HRC’s record/history, and have never listened to her field reporters questions or kick a*s in every debate.

It’s not just “about a woman being elected.” It’s about EXPERIENCE–the same argument we had regarding the empty suit affirmative action candidate.

Comment by Tricia Spiegel | 2008-12-29 11:26:52

OMG–you are SO right Uppity. It is so painful to watch her. I have to change the channel.

She reminds me of the student who has to give a speech in front of the class but forgot that today was the day–so just standing there, uncomfortable, unconnected words and “lapse speech” spilling out, wishing he/she could be anywhere else.

I believe America was founded to escape the concept of inherited power. New Yorkers need to start hollering before they end up with Senator Fluff’N'Stuff.

I wonder why Ted Kennedy didn’t push one of the RFK boys, I guess because he endorsed Hillary. Caroline should have kept the mystic going. Now everybody knows there is nothing there really.

Caroline Kennedy thinks she would bring federal money to New York based on the fact she supported Obama for president.

Wow, if that’s how Caroline expects Obama to dole out the federal dollars — and our tax money will go only to states where the senators supported him — it says something really awful about what Ms. Kennedy thinks being a president is all about.

Imagine if FDR — during The Great Depression of the 1930s — had doled out federal money and jobs only to the states where the senators had supported him. Holy cow.

That is an alarming and horrifying view of the presidency — and that view alone should DISQUALIFY Caroline from being appointed to the senate.

She needs to take a few minutes (or years) out to re-evaluate the role of an American president.

In the meantime, let one of New York’s current House members (preferably female) have the U.S. senate seat, and then Caroline can COMPETE for the vacated House seat.

Comment by snosandy | 2008-12-29 17:05:36

Geraldine Ferraro recommended to Gov. Patterson that one of the female House members should be considered for the open Senate seat.

Comment by lightacandle | 2008-12-29 17:17:58

And I think that Geraldine Ferraro, herself, would be a great choice.

She was a great and admired member of the House of Representatives and knows her way around the federal legislative process.

There are so many qualified women in New York, it is just OBNOXIOUS and an insult to think Caroline Kennedy would be the best choice.

She needs to get in line and DO something first.

Comment by trixta | 2008-12-29 19:18:32

How dare we ask that our “leaders” be qualified. The Left (the Pod Left, that is) has lost all of its critical faculties.

Comment by avwrobel | 2008-12-29 22:21:20

Being from Buffalo, I find the whole media-created ‘Caroline-craze’ disgusting. Hillary did a great job of fighting for upstate NY, and Gov Patterson has spoken out consistently about helping upstate NY’s economy. Even former M&T Bank (HQ’d in Buffalo, its one of the good banks Warren Buffet invests heavily in) President Dave Wilmers was named economic director for the state. So an effete, inexperienced upper crust Manhattanite would be a bad fit for representing all of NY state. NYC already has a senator in Charles Schumer. Caroline Schlossberg is a no go. period.
