A Departure… *OPEN THREAD*

From the intensity of Hammas and Israel, Obama’s vacation in Hawaii and continued testiness with the press (um, NOW do I get to say “I told you so”?? I did, you know - recently, too, in my “Elevation” post. Just sayin’.), and all of that…

As you may know, I am on vacation, and had the opportunity to go to one of my all-time favorite places in the world, Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC. It is the largest outdoor sculpture museum in the country, and a gorgeous place to spend a day. It’s also one of my favorite places to shoot, so for the PUMAS in the crowd, I have these three photos for you today:

Things are so up in the air in the world today, with the violence in the Middle East, and the most unprepared PEBO ever about to take office in the midst of the numerous issues facing our country and our world. And so, I have this one, “Into the Unknown.” It is one of my favorite sculptures (and sadly, they had to put it behind this gate - it used to be out in the grounds):

In the face of it all, I am glad to be on this journey with you, faithful readers. Thank you for your thoughtful comments, and for reading these posts. And, thank you for making No Quarter the place to go…

This is an Open Thread, friends - what’s on your mind today?

Thanks for the photos Amy!
Have fun, but don’t overdo it on the fresh seafood!
These are troubled times at home and around the globe, but it is out of our hands…we voted, and I did not for the “O”, so we’ll see what tommorrow brings!

Hi RRRAmy,
Those pictures are beautiful! My sister sent this article to me this morning and I’m still laughing…

Kerry Suggest Hot Pursuit of Pirates
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2008/12/30/kerry_suggests_hot_pursuit_of_pirates/

Being a lifelong resident of Massachusetts…I’m so effing proud!

I can see the monitor behind Jon Stewart right now. John Kerry with a patch over one eye and a parrot on his shoulders. Arruygh!

Amy, have a great vacation! It’s going to be an interesting new year.

What the heck, Amy? Didn’t you just come back from a diving trip? Sheesh!

Since this is an open thread….I started reading my NQ-linked Kindle copy of “Scarpetta” last night. OMG! Scarpetta and Benton are MARRIED and she moved to Boston for him! Geez….once again the woman uproots herself for her man. Get your copy today! (thru NQ of course)

LOL - I went snorkeling in Grand Cayman back in Sept./Oct., that’s right! This is a shorter trip, and not as far away from home. Honestly, it’s the only way I get a full night’s sleep - I don’t have my kittens waking me up during the night! :-D

Hey, NC Girl - we always went to Garden City, and went to Brookgreen every single year. It reallyt is the most amazing place - incredible sculptures and grounds…(And you know I’m a NC girl, too!)

BREAKING NEWS!

Damn it—they have found and published Obama’s official birth certificate.

Why now?

Go to http://www.tinyurl.com/9bteo9 to read all about it!

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2008-12-30 13:31:56

Oh, no. I was so sure he was not a legal citizen, too! ;-)

The thing is, he could publish that exact BC and the MSM would run with it!

Comment by truthisgold | 2008-12-30 14:54:40

Puget, if you believe that one, I’ve got a bridge to sell you…lol

Seriously, though…the only truth anyone is going to find in any of this is the fact that everything the BO Machine submits is altered, forged or otherwise implausible.

Rev. Amy, when I was growing-up, my family always vacationed at Ocean Drive Beach, and when I was older, at Cherry Grove Beach. One of the first places we always visited was Brookgreen Gardens. It was my grandparent’s favorite place. As a kid, I will have to say that I was bored to death. Plants, flowers and sculptures just didn’t excite me. The only thing I wanted to do was go to the Myrtle Beach Amusment Park. I realize now, that if I had the chance to go back to those days of my childhood, I would have a much greater appreciation for this beautiful place.

Thanks , Rev. Amy, for the lovely photos. Enjoy your vacation.
And speaking of: Obama on vacation……..did you see the picture of his holiness (or, hole-in-one-ness?) on the golf course, while the MidEast is frantically trying to blow itself up? Remember when Bush would be golfing at Kennebunk, in the middle of a similar world crisis and the Democrats would go ballistic over the fact that he was playing golf??!!! Hello!!!! So, today’s lesson is: yes indeedy..History DOES repeat itself.
You are so correct when you say “I told you so!”

Did they have a statue playing the Whitey Tape(tm)?

Comment by benny | 2008-12-30 14:09:51

The whitey tape is in the vault with the fake birth certificate. Keep up with the news. lol

Comment by Cindy | 2008-12-30 14:55:34

Hey trollers-
Caroline Kennedy’s attributes and experiences to make her a great Senator are in that same vault, n’est-ce pas?

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2008-12-30 16:40:37

Actually, I have acquired the whitey tape. I’m so sick of hearing about it so I started calling some Republicans and they weren’t going to use it so they gave it to me. I’m going to hang onto it until an opportunity arises that I can get rich with it. When the time comes though, I plan to make it a two for one deal. I’m now going to go after that Rashid Khalidi tape as well.

Ta-ta and toodle-oo! I am on a mission.

I’m off to LA!

See you all later!

LOL!

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2008-12-30 16:43:30

After having written the above comment, I have an incredible urge to taunt the bots:

Na-na! I know something you don’t know!

Oh, my, what 2008 has done to me! I wish 2009 would be better, but I see no reason to be hopeful about it!

Comment by oowawa | 2008-12-30 16:53:35

Csuzeq, with that kind of spirit, you’re going to have a great year, no matter where you are.

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2008-12-30 17:37:01

At least I can laugh about all of it. That is about all we can do now.

I swear that the MSM wanted Bush so they could eventually make fun of him and now it is the same with Obama. For them, had Hillary or Mccain been POTUS, yawn, slow news days for sure!

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2008-12-30 17:39:01

We should all taunt the bots because we do know something they don’t know!

Speaking of Kerry, he donated $200,000 to ODINGA, Presodent selects first cousin—drum roll…HARRY REID donated too…dum de dum..$800,000 from Harry Reid. A total of 1 million donted for ODINGA’s Campaign.

On a lighter note…Hillary’s last fund raiser is in NYC with a concert by Bon Jovi. Depending on the ticket price you can get a picture with Hillary autographed.
Go to Allegre for details on show and purchasing tickets. The show is on Jan 15th and selling fast. PUMAS are thinking of meeting up and sitting in groups so no worry is you are solo.

“nObama goes to golf course for the 4th time”

God Help us all.

Rev. Amy—-my previous comment got lost..but I had noted the striking resemblance between Obama playing golf during a serious world crisis, and Bush playing golf during a serious crisis…
American Girl in Italy has just posted such a comparison…great minds! ha! Anyway, you are so correct to say “I told you so!”
Enjoy your vacation, and thanks for the lovely photos.

Instead of fiddling while Rome burned, I suppose Nero would have been playing golf, but it hadn’t been invented yet.

Amy, I am so fond of Murrell’s. In fact, that whole Carolina coastline and barrier islands are pure heaven! Many thx for the pretty Puma pictures! It was a nice reminder of that lovely spot!

Comment by Brodie | 2008-12-30 15:41:12

Amy- that’s also one of my favorite places ever. What beautiful sculpture & what amazing gardens. I’ve been wanting to go back there to paint… some day…
Thanks for the pics!

Oh, that criminal Blago! He makes me smile. Who would have thought? Does he know he could end up as a hero to millions!

Spill the dirt on Obama, Blago! Sell your evidence to a news rag. Someone would pick it up, I’d hope. Sad, when I am counting on Blago to save us from Obama.

There is a real possibility that Blago wins this one. I love it.

My head exploded last night from an insane article on Yahoo News… google link on Yahoo entitled “Ex-Aides Say Katrina Was Fatal for Bush”. Lawrence Wilkerson describes Bush as being “like Gov. Sarah Palin, in that he didn’t know about foreign affairs” and he was a “Sarah Palin-like president”. Excuuuuseeee me, but when the hell did we ever get to elect a woman president and how the hell do they get to describe a failed president in terms of a woman who was never even given a chance to be vice-president. And what the hell does this have to do with a hurricane? This crap is the most appalling bullshit propaganda smear job.

Amy, thanks for sharing the pictures of Brookgreen. Hubby and I visited there on our honeymoon 31 years ago. We just moved to SC and are looking forward to going there again soon.

We’ve been to Hawaii and it is beautiful there, but there is nothing like the coast of NC and SC.

Take care,

Spring

Comment by Tricia Spiegel | 2008-12-31 12:13:46

How beautiful. I wish I lived closer so I could see this place for myself! Thanks for sharing.
