Oh Yeah, Blame Hillary, But Where Is Obama?

Jesus Christ!! The so-called “Progressive” has a piece up blaming Hillary for not saying anything publicly about the Israelis’ Gaza misadventure.

Meanwhile, President-elect Barack Obama and Secretary of State-to-be Hillary Clinton were shamefully silent in the first hours after the attack.

Bush’s reaction, and the non-reaction by Obama and Clinton, underscores the point that Hanan Ashrawi made on Saturday. “Israel has gotten used to not being held accountable and to being a country that is above the law,” said the Palestinian legislator and human rights activist. She called the bombings a “massacre.”

With Washington condoning Israel’s assault, the violence may only get worse.

It is not Hillary’s role or responsibility to say anything at this point. If she came out in public and said anything, either for or against the Israeli op, she would immediately be accused of launching her own foreign policy or sand bagging Barack. It is not Hillary’s job to start telling the public what the Obama policy is. That is the job of Barack Obama.

Although Barack Obama is not yet inaugurated, his silence is disturbing. Does he agree with the current U.S. policy of enabling Israel? It is certainly worth sending a signal to Israel. If you were looking for change vis-a-vis U.S. policy in the Middle East I suspect you are in for a major let down. I think the odds are strong that the Obama policy is not going to diverge much from the current Bush approach, at least with respect to Gaza. Looks to me like Israel’s move against Gaza this week had the direct objective of trying to smoke out the Obama policy. I suspect Tel Aviv is happy with the silence from the Obama camp.

What do you think?

Didn’t take long did it? Didn’t take long to blame Hillary.

Comment by Thinker | 2009-01-02 19:56:32

smh.

And so it begins.

Most of us knew that this was going to happen.

If she speaks on this issue, she will get accused to trying to be the President-elect, and when she doesn’t speak out, she gets blamed for that too.

Typical media.

For God’s sake - the quote you provide clearly blames Obama, Hillary and Bush. Why do you make up these ridiculous themes just because you read some drivle opinion. I have read in more than one place that BOTH Obama and Hillary have been briefed by Rice and are getting daily reports from the area. Neither of them are in power yet - hence they are not going to make a bold announcement on the issue. Are you so lacking in subjects that you have to take some anonymous opinion and spin it into ‘hillary is being blamed - Obama is the bad guy, Hillary the victim’ AGAIN? its really boring.

Comment by OBushMa | 2009-01-03 01:59:37

The buck stops with Bush and BO, period. Hillary has not even been confirmed yet. Would she want to speak up and give her opponents anything to use against her? BO on the other hand is PE and should be ready to lead, presumably. Obots, like the Bushies before them still don’t get it. Hillary should not share the blame at this moment in the first place. It’s all BO’s problem at this point.

Comment by imustprotest | 2009-01-03 02:03:06

Obots will NEVER get it….that’s why they’re obots!

Comment by beebop | 2009-01-03 10:16:46

You are absolutely right. Senator Clinton is not confirmed as Secretary of State. I think that Condi Rice still has the honor of that title.

What seems to evade the bots is that Israel apparently is not taking any chances with its future in a barky presidency. They took the action they did knowing full well that they had the full support of the current administration. They have no interest in the faciliation and “umming and uhhing” of the boy president (and by that I mean inexperienced, not a racial slam). They know what they currently have and they are going to make the deal they can get during the Bush lame duck presidency. Anyone who fails to see the significance of that does so at their own peril!

Yes. I agree. I personally feel Israel became emboldened by two factors: 1) The fact Bush is still president; and 2) the Iraeli elections where the hawks and doves are at each other’s throats. This latest manufactured “conflict” is the result of the Iraeli hawkish candidates and only for DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION within Israel….typical.

Justine, Sweetie:

Why do you insist on being so ridiculously inspired by either-or Obamyopic stupifiction/Bushopia that you are creating your own pseudo-inspired concern with respect to the most recent Israel-Palestine conflict hiccup?

Surely, you’re not the impecunious dunderhead I once took you to be, sweetie! For you would have intuited (for certainly you have no intellectual powers to speak of based on the embarrassing illogicality of your comments) by now that this new ‘crisis’ is the manufactured result for purely domestic consumption of the forthcoming Israeli elections between the hawks and the pseudo-dovish Livni (alas, the girl has no choice in the Israeli strictly-boys’club war!)

Your moronic assertions re the “Obama wrong/Hillary victim theme” further exhibits an allergic reaction to clear thinking for it is a no-brainer to all but thou that what is evident is the apparent obamyopia of the “Progressive” in joining HIllary in a blame-play suit that should be rightfully directed at the Prez-elect and the Prez-elect ONLY. The mere fact that the Progressive’s Obamyopics deemed it fit to even attach Hillary’s name in their “news” item is truly of concern in that it shows clearly the Obamyopics’ sly, continuous and peripheral efforts (even at this post-SOS selection time frame) to throw blame-mud on Hillary to accomplish their long-term goals:

a) ensure Hillary does not “succeed” (measured by their own obamyopic standards)
b) ensure their Teflon-Prez escapes getting burned when the international heat is dangerously turned up!

Of course, asking you to use logic, Justine, in defending your position will not be possible. Perhaps throwing a shoe would be more likely to get the desired result. Hope and pray we have a girl-to-girl chat at Saddleback soon, Justie. And try to get over it, sweetie. It ain’t worth losing your beauty sleep over it.

Hey Anna, I also think she should stay in the Senate, make a run on 2012! But who knows, I know she puts her country’s interests, first. But, maybe if she plays her cards right, as SOS, Prez, 2012? Old man Biden, past his prime and a drunk! His son was involved with the Larry Sinclair arrest in Delaware on those phony charges? Barry Soetoro, scandal plagued, Chicago Cess Pool will catch up with the phony one! I have very little confidence with his abilities. He has already committed many judgmental errors. The public will come to realize Barry Soetoro for what he is?

Comment by mary | 2009-01-03 19:21:18

What happened to Larry Sinclair. Last I heard he retained the services of a high-powered high-priced lawyer far more prestigious than the quilted one he had earlier who was rather ‘off the wall’. I suspect Sinclair has been “bought” by the DNC/Oblabla.
Let’s see if Philip Berg’s SC lawsuit for standing succeeds the 9th January and 18 January when he’ll have his “conferences” that Supreme Court has granted him. He will have standing on the 9th, day after the congress confirms Oblabla, so he may well get his injunction the 19th. And Obamyopia will be cured permanently!….

P.S. I can’t fathom why the moronic obamyopics at the Progressive have started fanning the flames of anti-Hillary rhetoric so soon….let’s hope they don’t try to self-destruct by more of the same inane blame-Hillary tactics.

I think she made the right decision considering that Teddy stonewalled her. There was absolutely NOWHERE for her to go.
I haven’t ruled out 2016. This will help her reinforce her foreign policy experience and protect her from any controversial Senate votes.

Comment by JS Ruby | 2009-01-02 20:34:01

In spite of how Teddy treated her in the Senate, I wish she would dump Dumbo and return. This administration is heading to the dumper, even before they take office, and she will be smeared with the stink. Get out Hillary while you can.

Do these people have any clue about how the government actually works? Hillary Clinton is now an employee of Obama’s. I made a comment recently about Obama’s glaring silence–golfing in Hawaii–as the Middle East blew up: if HRC was the president-elect, she would have been front and center immediately. Now, she must wait for Obama to set the policy and THEN, and only then, with his specific direction, can she speak for his administration. What a bunch of hacks.

I am confused and apprehensive about all of this.

Who will hold more sway over Obama’s decisions regarding the Gaza catastrophe?

Rahm Emanuel’s pro-Israel hawkishness, or the pro-Palestinian inclination of advisers like Samantha Power?

Comment by Jackarooty | 2009-01-02 19:53:45

Hillary could discover the cure for cancer and she would be criticized for not coming up with it sooner.

Comment by ford | 2009-01-02 19:53:50

Hillary would never comment until BO had told her to. It’s is inappropriate for the incoming SOS to shoot their mouth off about a conflict.
If Hill had said anything the MSM would have attacked her for that too.

Let’s hope one day Larry @ No Quarter will feature a column with this headline:

Comment by jjran | 2009-01-02 19:55:30

Does Obama knows where Gaza is located? This is the same guy who thinks there are 57 states in the union. On the other, he wrote in his book that he would stand with the Muslims in any conflict. So you go figure where in stands on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict..? I’m glad that he has nothing to say at this point. His 300 plus advisers are figuring one what he should say. I say Israel depend yourself and let the Palestinian fight for their rights. In the end, they are the only two groups that would figure a way out, either live together and fight each other to the end. It’s will be a dark day in hell if Obama is the one the would resolve this Mideast conflict.

Comment by JohnnyB | 2009-01-02 19:56:25

Yes, Larry, part of the invasion/bombing is to see what is the reaction, but the other two reasons are the elections in Israel coming up soon and this is done to boost the current powerbase, and the second is that W. is the Pres. and they know his position, so they do this now.

To me, it is a tragedy to have 1.5 million people isolated, fenced in, medical, food, jobs, electricity, all lacking for 60 years. Generations have been born in this Gaza (refugee camp)area. What is the solution? Where’s the two country policy? Only a game to keep the status quo? Israel has made a big mistake by the overkill reactions of the rockets (without warheads) falling on them.

Many groups around the world point to how the Palistinians have been treated in their call for a jiahad. They use this as a tool for recruitment.
We supply Israel with the weapons being used to bomb and invade the Gaza refugee camps.

Yes, the mantra is blame Hillary for everything. Now it is time to blame Obama if he does not do something bold on January 21st.

Enough killing.

Well, it’s par for the course with Obama, though, isnt it?

He had nothing to say about the economic meltdown, and he has nothing to say about this, either, (mostly because he’s not qualified to be President).

Cheney at the very least had the kooky neocon frame of mind to guide him — Obama?

What is the platform, other than corruption?

I dont know, maybe it requires a new method of reading, between the rhetoric, and the lines, reading the silence, for what it’s worth, perhaps the quiet not indicating support, but opposition, or even indifference, at this point.

Who knows, it often appears one thing when it means something else, all together.

Hard to tell…

As far as the attacks on Hillary, look at the source.

Hillary Clinton is a big girl and I have faith that she can and will weather this and many attacks in the future. It’s not her place as an SOS appointee-in-waiting to say anything about anything.

As for the MSM?

They’ve already shown their true colors–useless hacks, endless echo chambers and dedicated Clinton haters. Oh yeah, they “adore” the O and will redirect criticism whenever and where ever they can.

For the time being.

Because I’d bet my 401K that the media’s romance with Obama will fracture at some point. Right now, it’s a glorious honeymoon. I give it six months to a year. Then tighten your seatbelts! It’s going to be a very bumpy ride.

Obama has more important things to attend to, like figuring out how he can burn his birth certificate and hide the ashes in the urn with his dear, deceased grandmother’s ashes. What better way to hide the evidence that he’s not a citizen of the United States?

Really, I knew as soon as Hillary was asked to be SOS (Secretary of State) that she was going to be SOS (shit outta luck) because she would be blamed for every screw up that Obama makes. She should have stayed in the Senate. That would have saved us from having to endure the little…you know…Princess Caroline taking over her throne seat in New York.

Dear Lord,

Please do not let any more Obama stink get on Hillary. She has gotten way to close to the severely corrupted One. I think Hillary should have her own unique odor.

Yes of course so many are expecting much, much more of this kind of thing.

Barack the sham takes the credit for his supreme judgment and prescience when Hillary succeeds - and succeed she no doubt will.

And the vilification of Clinton by the right-wing, left-wing, Barack himself, and the media, makes her an instant target for criticism - and thereby directing negativity from the One. Barry played this one well - he must be very proud.

Comment by somerset | 2009-01-02 20:51:03

Speaking of Sarah Palin, isn’t it amazing how the democrats who thought Sarah was such a dope and unqualified are slobbering over Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg…the next senator from New York. This is reason number three that Hillary Clinton shouldn’t have done this…one being, no she can’t save the world from obomination, and two, he is going to make her look very, very bad as often as he can. He is hanging her out to dry at this very moment and it hasn’t even started yet.

Comment by Winston | 2009-01-02 23:14:33

You got that right somerset.

Sarah earned her way. Meaning she was elected on her own merits. She did not pimp her name like Princess Kennedy. Sarah became the youngest and first female Governor of Alaska; one of the most important states in the US.

And Sarah displayed enormous grace under the most intense media pressure and distortions I have ever seen any vice presidential candidate ever face.

Caroline is an empty pant-suit. Sarah and Hillary are the real deal.

Comment by mary | 2009-01-03 19:39:33

I will never forget how intelligent and astute Sarah Palin’s pre-nomination interviews sounded.
I made a point of finding out her views on various issues, including women’s rights and I saw her being interviewed a few months ago and being asked what she thought of sexism and the Media.

Palin: “Well, I would agree that there are some neanderthals out there; but I don’t think, with all due respect, that Sen. HIllary Clinton faced sexism in the media. This is something that one has to expect in public life. I never let the neanderthals really bother me. I just go on and do my job”.

Well, Gov. Palin, we all know NOW how WRONG you were in your very innocent assumptions on the media’s misogynist and sexist bias. You were crucified by the obamyopic media to the point where they even questioned (Kos, Huffington, and all the obamaRags) that you were carrying your daughter’s child. You found out the hard way, Sarah, that Hillary-bashing was indeed and truly a factor in her media treatment and consequent inability to grasp the nomination from the corrupt DNC.

Nice to have Palin admit this to Hillary and then they could both confront the misogynist forces in the media and the Old Boys’ Club of Politics USA.

There are a lot of sane people in this world. They deserve more attention and support. (Make no mistake on my view: Hillary Clinton is among them, but as well-stated above, this is not the time for her to be speaking out on this issue.)

The great immediate danger is that a missile could strike, for example, an Israeli apartment house, causing a large number of casualties, and trigger an immediate ground invasion.

Rational Action

The only way out is an immediate ceasefire, even a unilateral one, and a return to the negotiating table. This view is shared by some very senior retired military officers who have been speaking out in the media.

One of the most outspoken is retired General Amram Mitzner, former Chairman of the Labor Party, who was interviewed on national radio calling for an immediate ceasefire, and who spoke emphatically against a ground assault. Other retired Generals who have made similar statements include General Amos Lapidot, former chief of the Israeli Airforce; General Shlomi Gazit, former head of military intelligence; and Lt. General Ben Ami Gov, a winner of the Israeli prize for national security. In addition, three well-known authors–David Grossman, Amos Oz, and A.B. Joshua–have also been speaking out against the war.

While the latest poll shows that 82% of Israelis support the Gaza operation, a group called “The Other Voice,” based in Sederot, which is the Israeli city that has suffered the most rocket attacks from Gaza, has called for a ceasefire and co-existence between Israelis and Palestinians. The group is led by four citizens of the city, including Eric Yalin, Naomi Ben Bassad, Monika Zion, and Zohar Avitan. Two are oriental Jews, which is significant, since that grouping tends to be the base for the most right wing and vengeful views in Israeli politics. In the midst of these attacks, the group has been working around the clock, and has been given a lot of media coverage. - LPAC

These boobs will stop at nothing to criticize her for everything.

Sounds like “mommy didn’t change my diaper fast enough, mommy didn’t breast feed me long enough, mommy didn’t fold my T-shirts the way I like, mommy didn’t cut the crusts off of my bread.”

She is forced to navigate along a razor’s edge and no human being could possibly get this right according to their standards. Meanwhile Obie will get a pass for batting 25% — she’d get a fail for batting 1000.

She has not even been confirmed yet — if anyone in the “incoming” administration is going to offer their two cents, it needs to be P.E. Obama, not Sen. Clinton.

Slowly he will fire each and everyone, turning the public against the democrats and then forming his own coalition. The loyalist Party for Obama they will be called. Good luck everyone.

Larry:

Go back about three or four weeks ago and look at the post you had on N.Q. titled Obama’s first crisis???

On that post we stated that:

Obama’s first Crisis was the rocket Blitz against Israel that started on Election Day.

We took note that Obama had received hundreds of millions of $ from Hamas, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAW.

We also took note that Hamas had set up computer rooms in Gaza to help “get out the vote for Obama”.

We also noted that Obama’s silence about the election day rocket blitz was sending a message that was dangerous for Hamas..

We also noted that Israel would not sit back and take that pounding forever with out responding.

Well here we are, right on schedule as predicted.

I have one question:

If we low uneducated peasants on N.Q. could predict this—- How come the “smart Harvard boys” missed it??

I will make one more prediction:

Israel has nuclear weapons.
If Iran or Hezbollah makes the same miscalculation that Hamas has made,

Israel will not hesitate to use them!!!

There is only ONE objective in war.

WIN!! At all costs!! Whatever it takes!!!

Israel understands this like no other Nation on this earth.

Jews understand this like no other people on earth.

WWI started when everyone miscalculated by assuming that the seventh Balkan Crisis would be resolved the way the previous six had been.

Everyone is assuming the same thing about these Middle East Crises.

One of these times they will all be wrong, again.

It happens about every one hundred years or so.

Two hundred years ago it was a fella named Bonaparte.

Maybe you just are too comfortable there in your little denial neighborhood? No coincidence at all that the Israelis did this before the boy president starts his four year term of WORMing full time …..

Comment by Mort | 2009-01-03 10:39:47

The one thing that strikes me most over these last eight days is Israel tends to think it’s more of a player than it really is…

They’re not the US, and they’re losing support.

The narcissism of the Israeli neocons doesnt allow them to see, much less understand the greater implications.

If other nations will “play” our neocons, (as nations will do) why does Israel think it’s exempt from the game?

Comment by beebop | 2009-01-03 10:57:35

I am not sure where you found this crap to cut and paste, but try to clear your small mind of this nonsense.

Israel is the only Democracy in the middle east. Israel is the only nation in the middle east that would come to the defense of the United States IN A HEART BEAT if it were necessary. If you don’t think for one minute that the US needs the assistance of Israel then you are less than a bot, you are a butt.

YES! As someone else pointed out, if Palestine had spent its time, $$ and power on itself, instead of obliterating Israel from the face of the earth, it would be its own state by now.

Hillary knew the job was dangerous when she took it. I’m not surprised that’s business as usual when it comes to blaming Hillary.

“Israel has gotten used to not being held accountable and to being a country that is above the law,”
Take out the word Israel, insert Obama and take out the word country, insert man and there you go. Nothing new. Hillary has taken the criticism for 2years now in unrelenting fashion from all sides except for the primary voters. She got the wrong end of the stick when the DNC, Obama and the money behind him ignored the rules/laws and stole the nomination. They kept going and stole the election. So far, no one has been able to stop him. I’m still not seeing her agenda in her choices to end up where she is, but I lean towards Obama and gang having something hanging over her head to get her where they want her. But I also believe she has something on him too which is buffering them from totally pushing her and Bill out the door. She has done the right thing in not inserting her opinions at this time on the crisis in the middle east. I’m sure she has talked to Rice and is being kept up to date.

In a few short days, a man will move from his private residence into a much larger and infinitely more expensive one owned not by him but by the taxpayers. A vast lawn, a perimeter fence and many well trained security specialists will insulate him from the rest of us but the mere fact that this man will be residing in this house should make us all stop and count or blessings - because it proves that we live in a nation where anything is possible.

Many believed this day would never come. Most of us hoped and prayed that it would, but few of us actually believed we would live to see it. Racism is an ugly thing in all of it’s forms and there is little doubt that if this man had moved into this house fifteen years ago, there would have been a great outcry - possibly even rioting in the streets.

Today, we can all be both grateful and proud that no such mayhem will take place.when this man takes up residency in this house.

This man, moving into this house at this time in our nation’s history is much more than a simple change of addresses for him - it is proof of a change in our attitude as a nation. It is an amends of sorts - the righting of a great wrong. It is a symbol of our growth, and of our willingness to “judge a man, not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character”.

There can be little doubt now that the vast majority of us truly believe that this man has earned both his place in history and his new address. His time in this house will not be easy - it will be fraught with danger and he will face many challenges. I am sure there will be many times when he asks himself how in the world he ended up here and like all who have gone before him, the experience will age him greatly.

But I for one will not waste an ounce of worry for his sake - because in every way a man can, he asked for this. His whole life for the past fifteen years appears to have been inexorably leading this man toward this house. It is highly probable that in the past, despite all of his actions, racism would have kept this man out of this house. Today, I thank the lord above that I am an American and that I live in a nation where wrongs are righted, where justice matters and where truly anything is possible.

O.J. Simpson is finally going to jail.

No OJ is not justice. It could be payback , it could be many things but this crime of OJ’s did not warrant such a punishment.

retribution is never justice-no matter if OJ got off last time.

Comment by kgirl1028 | 2009-01-03 05:51:45

I agree hot librarian however, what goes around comes around and when it does, even your enemy’s will feel bad for you. OJ put that bad Karma out there and it’s comming back to kick his butt, however it does set a dangerous precedent.

As far as the topic is concern. I agree with those that believe this is a sign for Ms Clinton to stay where she is. The attack on Georgia showed this summer that obama has no clue unless he has someone to cheat off of and the only people who picked up on that, where republicans, clinton supporters, and everyone else in the world not effected by the Koolaid. However as for what is happening in Gaza i thing think we should take a MOOB(mind our own business) approach. Let’s stay the hell out of it. If there’s anyone who has suffered bad PR in the last eight years it’s us. And electing obama does not make the world instantly love us. (sorry bots) We have just as much of a chance to stop people in Gaza from fighting as we do convincing Obots, Obama is a fraud. It’s not going to happen, common sense is not common. And let’s not forget we are culprits of over kill as well (can anybody say WMD). Maybe our media should spend more time focusing on how we should disentagle ourselves from the mess we made in Iraq than focusing on Isreal taking a very American esq approach to a problem. Can anyone say Abu Ghraib and GITMO? it’s kind of hard to feel self righteous when you are looking at a Naked Iraqi cowering from a US soldier and a black dog, knowing his picture is being taken so it is possible the whole world will see his humiliation and he’s gulty of nothing but being in the wrong place at the wrong time. if that aint overkill i don’t know what is. And no i do not think Obama has any clue of how to fix that problem either, that’s why i didn’t vote for him. This is not to attack our military personnel. I do believe they were following orders, but to acknowledge that we have displayed symptoms of gross arrogance far more reaching and uncalled for than Israel ever could imagine. And while i love my country, i am still humbled by the idiotic war we stumbled into and will not get out of anytime soon. Before we teach the world to sing in perfect harmony let’s learn how to sing the song ourselves.

It is also proof that both parties are equals when it comes to pissing on the electoral process. It is proof that extreme voter on the left can be every bit as vicious, vile and vindicative and uninterested in the facts as those on the right.

Proof that wining at all costs an that the end justifies the means is all that matters.

Proof that allowing the media to personally attack a woman candiates is acceptable while letting the other camp get away with racial and bigoted satements. Approving of one camps using of rac as a weapon. Allowing false charge of race-baiting to go undefended.

This election pissed on real equality. This was an engineered pipe-dream to install a candidate that falls short of the loft image and ideals his image makers created.
This was a pure case of the perfection application of corrupt Chicago and Boston politics in action.

Almost on topic: I wonder if the tide is beginning to turn, i.e. Obama ain’t God: in Sunday’s NYT, Frank Rich, on the march against the California Prop. 8 vote and Rick Warren, used words and phrases such as “not free of his own hubris and arrogance”; “Warren, whose ego is no less than Obama’s”; “Obama cockiness”; “being too cute by half”; “disingenuous defense of his tone-deaf invitation” to describe PEBO. Michael Gerson (yes, I know he was a Bush speechwriter, but still…) in the WaPo, took off against Joe Klein in his TIME paean to the O, saying “Obama does not need the service of nymphomaniacs on his honeymoon. In 2009, he will require sober supporters — and loyal critics — to get through challenges that will not yield to charm.”
It ain’t much, but maybe it’s a start?
Sometiimes it’s tough to know who are the canaries in the coal mine. Women? GLBT’s?

I was afraid of this. Which was partly why I wished she would have stayed in the Senate and far away from the Obama administration. It’s a double whammy–Obama has her handy to help him figure out what to do when he has no clue how to act, and then also has her handy to take the blame when things go wrong.

Comment by Jude | 2009-01-04 19:23:51

To start Hillary Clinton’s new tenure as Secretary of State, someone needs to start a game called the Hillary Clinton Blame Game. The purpose of game would be to assign points to those politicians, political commentators, bloggers etc who blame Hillary Clinton for mistakes by Obama administration, world incidents, or natural occurrences to demonstrate the irrationality of the Clinton Derangement Syndrome. Points will be determined by their political agenda, logic (lack of) and the use of past to apply their “blame”. Blame Awards should be administered along with the Acclaim Awards to those who praise Hillary’s work.
