[JAKE TAPPER UPDATE] Bill The Judas Is Dropping Out

(bumped up by SusanUnPC)

UPDATE: Jake Tapper has the behind-the-scenes good stuff in “Obama Team Feels Richardson Wasn’t Forthcoming About Investigation Before Being Offered Commerce.” [I've just added quotes from Jake's article below the fold.]

(H/T American Girl In Italy!)

Pay-to-play, pay-to-play, pay-to-play, pay-to-play, pay-to-play, … GOD! Where have I heard THAT phrase before? (See section below the fold.)

Richardson to withdraw as Commerce secretary:

New Mexico governor cites pending investigation of business dealings

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, tapped in December by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as secretary of Commerce, has withdrawn his name for the position, citing a pending investigation into a company that has done business with his state.

“Let me say unequivocally that I and my Administration have acted properly in all matters and that this investigation will bear out that fact,” he said Sunday in a report by NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell. “But I have concluded that the ongoing investigation also would have forced an untenable delay in the confirmation process.”

A federal grand jury is investigating how a California company that contributed to Richardson’s political activities won a lucrative New Mexico state contract. …

The Jake Tapper update is at the end.

SNIFF! GET YOUR HANKIES OUT!

A person familiar with the proceedings has told The Associated Press that the grand jury is looking into possible “pay-to-play” dealings between CDR Financial Products and someone in a position to push the contract through with the state of New Mexico.

Richardson said he plans to continue in his role as governor. “I appreciate the confidence President-elect Obama has shown in me, and value our friendship and working partnership. I told him that I am eager to serve in the future in any way he deems useful. And like all Americans, I pray for his success and the success of our beloved country.”

Obama said Sunday he accepted Richardson’s decision to withdraw with ‘deep regret.’

“Governor Richardson is an outstanding public servant and would have brought to the job of Commerce Secretary and our economic team great insights accumulated through an extraordinary career in federal and state office,” Obama said. ….

:::::::::::::::::::::::

UPDATE from Jake Tapper, ABC News in his new article, “Obama Team Feels Richardson Wasn’t Forthcoming About Investigation Before Being Offered Commerce“:

It sounds like Obama and Richardson had a LOT of telephone calls this weekend. It also sounds like Richardson’s “camp” is unhappy because they believe that Richardson has been “forthcoming,” but that Obama’s team did not see it that way:

Sources tell ABC News that officials on the Obama Transition Team feel that before he was formally offered the job of commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was not forthcoming with them about the federal investigation that is looking into whether the governor steered a state contract towards a major financial contributor.

Here’s why, writes Tapper:

Once the investigation became more widely known through national media reports last month, sources tell ABC News, the Obama Transition Team realized the FBI would not be able to give Richardson a clean political bill of health before the new administration is ready to send his nomination up to the Senate for confirmation.

[...]

There were some discussions about whether the confirmation process could be delayed a few months until the investigation concluded, sources say, but it became clear that wouldn’t happen any time soon, and no one wanted to be seen as pressuring law enforcement officials to wrap up their investigation.

The governor spoke with the president-elect several times over the weekend, their last conversation being Saturday, when Richardson told Obama he was withdrawing his name from consideration

I bet Obama loved those phone calls.

I have a question: Who’s the muscle on the Obama team?

Not included here: Tapper’s succinct summary of the investigation. Read all of “Obama Team Feels Richardson Wasn’t Forthcoming About Investigation Before Being Offered Commerce” for a deeper understanding.

One down, several more to go!

Comment by lee M | 2009-01-04 15:27:23

Sojourner, you are sooooooo right. Now pray tell me why Obama regrets Richardson’s withdrawal and says he is an outstanding public servant,(when the suspicion is another pay for play investigation) and on the other hand he condemns Blagojevich and urges him to step down. Shouldn’t he also urge Richardson to step down? Different strokes for different folks? Seems the 30 pieces of silver that Judas got for betraying Hillary wasn’t the first that crossed the fat palm of Bill Richardson.

Comment by Ani | 2009-01-04 20:54:56

Toldja that moniker of Richardson’s would stick — now he will REALLY be known as Judas for the rest of his life. Thanks, James Carville — that was the only good thing you did this election season.

O wait–we already know that line by heart.

ROFL I wondered how Obama was going to pay back all those many, many politicians who sold their souls backing him….how, did we ask, could he possibly return all those favors? Answer: He’s doesn’t have to pay them back!! Just start the investigations and watch the bodies being buried under the bus….got rid of that pesky governor and that pesky governor and that….end of favors owed. Oh, unless you are a female from a political dynasty with never ending fundraising skills, then you can step to the front of the bus.

He needs to watch his back. Payback is a bitch and I don’t think Blago is the only one who will go down without a fight.

But he’s also moved as quickly as he could to a hotel as close as he can get to the WH after Bush told him he couldn’t move into Blair House early. Is he afraid someone is going to yank his prize away from him if he doesn’t get there and squat on the property?

I have no idea about this Destiny USA place. Are you saying Hillary was getting a handout? What does that have to do with Bill Richardson anyway? I was thinking of his unpopular “spaceport” and commuter rail projects and how the best justification for them was probably that they kept someone employed.
The O got plenty of illegal funds from a lot of disreputable types, but I don’t think Hamas ever had $350 Billion either.

Philip Berg is having two conferences with Supreme Court Justices on 9th January and the 18th January, strategically timed.

Berg on the 9th will have the standing that would have been denied him before the Congress confirms Oblabla on the 8th. He has to produce his original Birth Certificate (not phony Certification that has on it “African”! In l961, they used “negro”–not African!) and dislose his medical records and his Columbia, N.Y. and Harvard school records to avoid investigation. If he didn’t get authorization from Immigration when he left public school in Indonesia to go to Hawaii in l971, then he is an Illegal ALILEN and not qualified to be Senator even….

Please visit Mr. Philip Berg’s (Deputy Att.Gen. PA) “OBAMA CRIMES” site for latest info….Guess Biden should get ready on the 9th and/or 19th January for some Constitutional pyrotechnics!…Amen, brothers and sisters….the Squatter-Elect may be vacating the White House….before the 20th! Now that’s HOPE and CHANGE we can pray for, eh?…

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2009-01-04 21:12:35

Not looking good for any of them…

Comment by catherine | 2009-01-04 17:36:32

I see reading comprehension skills are not your forte.

It’s a non-story and there was no corruption involved. It’s not like Hillary was accepting thousands in illegal donations from Hamas connected “fans” in Gaza or government officials in Nigeria for her campaign unlike some people.

While the media is “vetting” they can start with Obama and ask him about Yesse Yehudah.

Nobama is up to his eyeballs in caca. The shit for brains biased media has spent 2 decades trying to get the Clintons on NOTHING and they’re completely ignoring the political scandal of the century right in front of their nose. Barky is going to make Watergate look like a parking infraction.

Comment by heartland dem | 2009-01-04 18:50:39

Not so fast… I can read just fine, and this is not necessarily a “non-story”. There’s more to come on this one.

“Hillary, The New York Times says, helped enact legislation allowing the developer, Robert J Congel, use tax-exempt bonds – green bonds – to help finance the construction of the Destiny USA entertainment and shopping complex, an expansion of the Carousel Center in Syracuse. She also helped secure a provision in a highway bill that set aside USD 5 million for Destiny USA roadway construction, the daily added. The bill with the tax-free bonds provision became law in October 2004.”

That’s more than one bill and Schumer is knee deep in this along with her- seems to be a pattern of collusion possibly. Will HRC be next to drop out???

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/hillary-helped-developer-a-donor-to-bills-foundation/406625/

Comment by Strawberrybitch | 2009-01-04 19:03:36

Nope, nothing here. If he would have donated to her campaign, I’d say there might be. But he donated to Bill’s charity. Not really a pay to play kind of thing. Poor people getting help. How did the Clintons benefit from this personally? But hey if it makes you feel better about Bill Richardson stepping aside. Be my guest. The people of New York actually benefited from this bill. There were quite a few jobs created. Not to mention poor people in the third world receiving help from the Clinton Foundation. Now that’s a reach even for an Obot. They hate the working man and the poor.

heartland dem/repub..

Nope! I read the story and your interpretation is wildly optimistic–in getting the Clintons investigated and kicked out! Hold it, there! Not so fast. Read it again. This is just a January 3rd slow-journalism type of NOTHING story–as empty as the Empty Suit that’s on its way to the White House.

Had it not been for the misogynist media frat-boys and the incompetent cheerleading of the DNC, Hillary would now be the Prez-elect. Oblabla was running neck to neck with McCain, whereas Hillary was almost 7 points ahead of McCain.

If the Soros-engineered economic meltdown had occurred back in April, Oblabla wouldn’t have had a chance in hell or Washington. Hillary would be in. And if the meltdown occurred in December, McCain would have gotten the Top Dog’s job. And God knows how he’d have screwed up, given his self-professed “lack of knowledge on economics” and, being Republican, he sure would not have stimulated the Economy in a way to help the low and middle classes. We’d have Bush Term 3 with McCain. Now, we only have Obama’s Bush-lite term…
The country and world missed a golden opportunity to prosper and get healthy–only with Clinton! Undeniable! Progress,Universal Health Care and Economic prosperity for all would have been far more probable with a pragmatic, intelligent, conciliatory, hard-working-like-hell Leader like Hillary Clinton. Certainly not with Oblabla.

Not so fast. The article says that Clinton supported legislation of which one of the beneficiaries was upstate developer Robert J. Congel, who several weeks later contributed to Bill Clinton’s foundation. There has been no link made of collusion between the two events.
From the article:

His contribution is the only known situation so far in which an American donor gave a large sum to Mr. Clinton’s foundation while benefiting from his wife’s official actions. Mr. Reines said that Mrs. Clinton did not solicit the donation from Mr. Congel nor discuss it with him or anyone on his behalf, and she was unaware of its timing and size until last month.

You might also consider one Barack Obama. Obama, who voted for FISA, and was a direct beneficiary via subsequent campaign contributions from telecoms. Was he aware that his vote would be so rewarded?

Comment by Dora Ratquila | 2009-01-04 17:13:00

The original source of the story was the NYT. Unfortunately, another Savage piece on the Clintons (pun intended). At least the writer, Charlie Savage of the NYT, made a clarification in the same article: “Hillary Clinton, who as a Senate candidate in 2000 supported other tax breaks for a Carousel mall expansion to create jobs, did not work alone in getting the subsidies through Congress. The measures had other supporters in the New York delegation, including Sen. Charles Schumer, a Democrat, and Rep. James Walsh, a Republican.

So wouldn’t it have been better if he had a clearer/fairer-sounding title like: “Clinton Foundation donor benefited from legislation backed by Sens. Clinton and Schumer and Rep. Walsh“? Guess not, because singling out the Clintons would have made it more titillating. This scumbag should be sent by his newspaper to Gaza! And woe to those who peddle the usual calumny against HRC and WJC; there’s a special place in hell for you!

I guess pay-to-play now qualifies as “great insights” to an Obama economic team.

Good ridance? For Senator Clinton? Get f’ng real. That article is bullsh&t with two events that happened dont even coincide. Believe me, I know, I researched it and send the NYT a email stating if there online rag cant report the truth, then they should think about quitting.

Don’t try to bring her into this mess because as it stands now, we are damn screwed! All of this shit going on around the world, and we have people acting as if this is *how to run the country 101*. Don’t get it twisted. President Clinton put out his donors list a while back to jump through hoops just so Obama can ride Senator Clintons godd^amn back to the finish line. Please.

They threw so much shit at her in the primaries to take her down even accusing her with one of the most far fetched schemes that let me know they were equivalent to bottom feeders when they attempted to say she was waiting on a *assasination* for something that got twisted, pulled, and adjusted to look as if it applied to Obama. Live in the fairytale that is your life, but don’t think for a minute they stopped the *clinton machine*.

They released more information on there business dealings when we havent got jack shit from the PEBO. This is sickening how badly we look as a country right now. We cant even get our own government right. Who the hell would even trust any of our own decisions when we couldnt even vet the vetters.

They vetted the Clintons to the point, that I know so much about there business dealings they could claim me as a dependent on there taxes as if I am part of the family. We are at war. We are fighting two wars. We have a financial crisis, people losing there jobs and some even there jobs and homes. But yet we are focusing on things that should of been handled before.

We tried to tell these assholes this shit in the primary. We emailed. We faxed. We called. And they still didnt honor our votes, they ignored our voice, and they took the values and just plain down hard threw that crap out the door.

Instead of focusing on Clinton. They need to focus at the man at the top and wonder why everything is going down hill and they are not in office. You people, some of you, the haters, dont understand the concept that there is so much going on military wise right now my black ass feel like running to the border of New Mexico to leave this shit behind. People have no idea and clue.

It’s like watching a fucking train wreck about to happen. The pay to play crap is going to bring down this country. Yes, country. Because while they are twiddling there damn thumbs with all of this who knew what and when and how much it costs. We are distracted and cant focus on anyone sneaking up from behind.

The next election we have, take the time out and ask questions on who the fuck we are electing so we dont have to get THE DAMN ANSWERS from countries that would like to take our asses off the map. Yes, I am mad. Yes, I am angry, and hell yeah I am beyond pissed. Yeah, you might want to listen to Biden and gird your damn loins whatever the hell that means. The man got up there and sad what the hell was going to happen so no one better not be questioning who they voted for now. The man on the ticket of the president stated exactly what was going down.

But people wanted to drink the hopeychangey juice and not ask themselves why would he make that statement by saying thats just *biden being biden*. I doubt very highly Biden is psychic but people are so desperate for change the right person coming along saying what they want to hear, they flock to them like flies on shit.

At this point we need ALL hands on deck and I dont’ care if they are Democratic or Republican but we need some people who know what the hell is going on. Look at Richardson, Reid, Rahm, & god knows who else. Clinton is not perfect but she is the last one standing so these new *smear* attempts are going to get beat down with a quickness. All the bots are out in force to attempt to make this about HRC and not about the fact that Richardson must not of filled out his questionare with facts. But by all means please continue. Knowing what I do about what is going on, I have zero problems whatsoever knocking down and running over bots with CDS. Because I am very sure when its all said and done, you will feel the need to want Clinton as SOS just like a addict needs crack.

I don’t know exactly what Joe Biden meant by the phrase, but I sort of think he meant the #$%$#@ is going to hit the fan, so you’d better be ready for it.

WASHINGTON – New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Sunday announced that he was withdrawing his nomination to be President-elect Barack Obama’s commerce secretary amid a grand jury investigation into how some of his political donors won a lucrative state contract.

Richardson’s withdrawal was the first (first? -naw third) disruption of Obama’s Cabinet process and the second “pay-to-play” investigation that has touched Obama’s transition to the presidency. The president-Select has remained above the fray in both the case of arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the New Mexico case. (ABOVE THE FRAY because no one is vetting him huh?)

Soldier4Hillary – you just said a mouth full and all of it is right on the mark. I can’t speak quite as eloquently as you do, but I agree with every @$#$^&% word you said.

Already the obots are looking for a scapegoat, and as someone said on this blog once before, “as soon as something goes wrong they’re going to blame Hillary”.

It’s about time someone vetted Obama and point blank DEMANDED that @#$^% Vault Birth Certificate. He is spending so much money to hide it that I would think the SCOTUS would take that as proof alone that he is hiding something big.

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2009-01-04 16:25:54

This is the thing that saddens me the most about America today. That SCOTUS must be receiving fat checks from Soros too. There’s no other explanation for the fact that they refuse to do the job WE PAY THEM TO DO. If anyone has a better answer to it, I would love to hear it. At this point it seems that this country has been 100% bought and paid for by some really nasty people who don’t wish us well.

Comment by KFaye | 2009-01-04 16:51:55

Tom Waite has written an explanation of what he thinks is going on at the Supreme Court. It is the only explanation I have seen that clarifies the SCOTUS behavior on the birth certificate issue. I sure hope he’s right. It’s posted at Hillary’s Village.

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2009-01-04 17:25:53

Thanks KFaye. I had read that before. I wish I could say it gave me hope, but the demeanor from SCOTUS, IMO, has been disrespectful of America and the Constitution. I guess I have to stick with the “they’re being bought and paid for” theory until we see what happens. This issue is so out in the public eye that I can’t BELIEVE they are so dismissive of it. They are PAID to uphold the Constitution. NOT to choose a President Select themselves.

Comment by KFaye | 2009-01-04 18:43:16

I only have a tiny smidgen of hope left. Even if Obama was born is the US, his dual citizenship is a problem to me. Duly citizenship comes with duly loyalty. I can’t fathom that the Supreme Court wouldn’t think dual loyalty is pertinent to the natural-born status.
I have a cousin who was born in the US, mother American, but father Jordanian. It was a huge concern when he was contemplating joining the army. The family had many discussions about the moral dilemma that dual citizenship can present. He has served proudly in the US military for over 10 years now, but only after some very frank dicussions with family and the military about his dual citizenship.

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2009-01-04 18:47:57

KFaye…I agree with you. But I can’t for the life of me figure out why SCOTUS wants to wipe their behinds with the Constitution. It really is upsetting. And, yes, the dual citizen thing is particularly scary with Fraudbama and all of the psycho friends, mentors, advisers, etc. he has.

Comment by KFaye | 2009-01-04 20:13:34

But I can’t for the life of me figure out why SCOTUS wants to wipe their behinds with the Constitution.

Precisely. That’s one reason I think Tom Waite MIGHT be on to something. The Berg case was the first one filed, yet they have waited ’til last to take it up, while dismissing the others. Why? I don’t know enough about Constitutional law to judge the merits of his argument beyond that. It just seems like it should have been dismissed by now if they were handling the Berg case like the others.

Tom Waite’s Hillary Village article is elucidating and it looks as if the SC has “cornered” Obama.

I have spent close (or more than) an hour viewing what I consider the best video available discussing the issues facing Obama’s eligibility. Mr. Philip Berg, (Dept.Att.Gen.PA) is a loyal Democrat and he’s brought the action against The Chosen One for reasons he makes crystal clear in this videotaped National Press Conference that he called December 17th.

Please visit Philip Berg’s site:

“ObamaCrimes.com” \

\View the National Press Club Conference he called to discuss Obama’s “unqualified” status and the lawsuits pending in the Supreme Court right now, conferences Jan. 9th and Jan. 16th. This is a real crisis–thank Zeus Hillary’s in there; who knows, she’s 4th in line, but the way they’re dropping….

Obama Team Feels Richardson Wasn’t Forthcoming About Investigation Before Being Offered Commerce
January 04, 2009 4:15 PM

Sources tell ABC News that officials on the Obama Transition Team feel that before he was formally offered the job of commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was not forthcoming with them about the federal investigation that is looking into whether the governor steered a state contract towards a major financial contributor.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/

Comment by AF catfish | 2009-01-04 17:41:53

It’s Judas’ fault we didn’t vet him!

Two Democratic strategists outside Obama’s transition team told CNN that Obama aides pushed the withdrawal because they did not want an ethical distraction in the wake of controversy surrounding embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Federal prosecutors allege that Blagojevich, a Democrat, had hoped to barter Obama’s Senate seat for either money or influence.

One of the Democratic strategists described Richardson as “stunned.” But Democrats who talked with CNN noted the withdrawal is in keeping with the Obama philosophy of resolving issues quickly.

Speaking as one who has in the past ridiculed Ms. Whitedove’s predictions, I nevertheless went to her page and was surprised by her appearance. This is not what I expected. I’m trying hard to dispel all sexism and chauvinism from my soul, but sometimes the dark night of the soul is difficult.

this is why i didn’t vote for obama just because i want to hear something i won’t believe it if it doesn’t jive with reality. Obama is not inspirational his speech writers are should be a preacher my ass, does he even believe in a god other than himself? and as for the massive voter fraud and the shadow government it seems more likely obama and friends more so than McCain. Obama is an evil jerk off of Dick Cheney Proportions. A true Maverick? And if anyone assassinates him i will personal kick their ass, not because I care about obama but because i don’t want my day time soap interrupted for almost a whole week like they did after nine eleven. Note I don’t even watch them anymore, but it’s just the principle of the thing. I rather have four years of obama as president and allow him to revel himself for what he is especially to the irritating bots that frequent this board, than give legitimacy to the biggest con artist of the century, just so i can cross my fingers and toes and wish he not be president cause some psychic says so. If she can’t get obama’s character right, then i dont believe a damn thing she says about the future. The whole world needs to know what this man is and i’m all for them finding out. Because it’s down right irritating.

To thine ownself be true.

Do you think this was planned that way, so as to do the least amount of damage to ODrama Queen??

Actually the best time to deliver bad news is Friday afternoon, most people just want to get home, slip on their dancing shoes and party their asses off. It’s a long time until Monday and hopefully something else happens to draw away the public’s short ass attention span, like Britney’s hoo hoo or Paris’s latest sex video. Bush was famous for this. I always waited for Friday with anticipation because something interesting was always trying to be slid under the radar. So for this to be let loose on a Sunday when all the world was sitting down to watch the talking heads bleat about Israel…well somebody dropped the ball.

BO knew about this investigation? Or not? If not, that’s what he gets for not vetting people.

What I fear the most and have posted this before, is that he will wait for Hillary’s NY Senate seat to be filled, for Hillary to be confirmed by the Senate and THEN, low and behold, ’someone’ (wink*wink) will come up with a ‘conflict of interest’ in Bill Clinton’s Library donations and he will fire Hillary. They will have washed their hands completely of the Clintons. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t trust that SOB as far as I can throw him…..ESPECIALLY where Hillary is concerned.

I think it was this morning when I heard Fox and Friends mention something about a Clinton donation and asked “Is this a conflict of interest?” I missed the report though. They WILL find a way to get rid of her. I know they will.

When this Bill Richardson story came out today, it just confirmed my feelings. I did’t think he wanted Richardson in his administration, but had promised him something for his endorsement…which totally screwed Hillary at the time. IF BO knew about this investigation of Richardson (and he could have and pretended he didn’t…as Freud said, “nothing happens by accident”) and still nominated him for Commerce…..

Poor Bill Richardson. There he went and screwed over his good friends, Bill and Hill and has NOTHING to show for it. He burned the wrong bridge…fool.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-01-04 17:11:20

I share your skeptical views of O’s intentions regarding Hillary. However, I think she will indeed be confirmed as SOS. She will then be useful as a lightning rod for whatever worldwide thunderstorms might befall the O presidency. Once she is burnt to a crisp, O can safely dispose of her.

The boss thanks him alright and then blows his head off while saying thank you. Poor Bill. Mr. happy Mexican thought by ditching the Clintons and licking the One’s feet while doing as told, that he would be rewarded with a place at court. Instead he find’s his a** dragging under the bus. Too rich. Honestly, someone is going to make a ton of money by writing all this down in a novel. They don’t even have to be very creative because no one could make up a better story if they tried. It has everything a best seller needs except the happy ending. So far at least. I sure hope Hillary doesn’t resign too soon from the Senate. She must know better than to trust Obama. The Blago scandal probably won’t touch Obama, and in this case they decided not to go forward with a nomination that was planned; it’s not exactly Iran-Contra. Just because the people on this board obsess about this kind of thing doesn’t mean that it’ll matter much to the general population, and it doesn’t mean that this will make Obama look bad. A lot of people will think Obama took proactive steps to not nominate Richardson once the extent of the investigation was realized.

Comment by Hope | 2009-01-04 21:34:08

Yep,
That’s exactly what they will think. The delusion and efforts to contort the truth into anything that looks like a compliment to Obama will continue. But how long will that hold up under the pressure? His past is not going away.
It is true, in American culture, there is an obsessive desire to create icons out of undeserving people and what’s more true is that Americans love to watch those icons fall from that pedestal. Obama’s been pushed so high, even if he didn’t have a never before seen level of incompetency in a president coupled with an astounding amount of corrution surrounding him, he’d still have the furthest to fall than any in the recent past- Messiah is a little hard to live up to.

He should have been careful what he wished for and so should have the Obots who had no clue what they bought with their magic beans.

When you promise the impossible , there is no choice but to break that promise.

Tim Kaine has stated he is personally opposed to abortion[30] but he opposes overturning Roe v. Wade. He supports restrictions on abortion, such as requiring parental consent and banning so-called partial-birth abortions in cases where the woman’s health is not at risk.[31]

In the 2006 Senate election, Kaine supported Democratic Senate candidate Jim Webb.[32] Kaine also opposed an amendment to the Virginia Constitution that would define marriage as that between one man and one woman, though he has publicly stated that he personally opposes same-sex marriage.[33]

What a strict vetting process that BO Transition Team has! Kicken’ Judas Richardson to the curb because of a federal investigation where nobody has even been arrested yet!

Karma has done its work again. I am assembling a top five list for those that need Karma’s attention right now.

5. Jessie Jackson Jr. for calling the Clintons racists.
4. John Kerry for saying Obama is the best candidate because he is black.
3. Donna Brazile for pretending to be impartial on national television.
2. Nancy Pelosi for soooooo many reasons but particularly her interview with Greta where she said Obama was the best candidate because he is “new and fresh”.

How convenient for Tapper and the MSM to start the riff that Richardson was not forthcoming—THAT IS THE O TRANSITION TEAM JOB. When these Dems all get together at the Ball, I think they may kill each other. What a loss???? Will they make it until Jan. 20??????

Comment by The Robot | 2009-01-04 18:59:12

Team BO says Richardson was not forthcoming – Richardson claims he was:

The governor discussed the investigation with the Obama team

NBC Nightly News reported that the Obama team knew about this in advance and thought it was minor or would’ve played out by now.

Team Obama did the vetting – therefore they are the ones LYING. Bill “Judas” Richardson is the latest to go under Barack’s big yellow bus.

I’ll just bet Bill Clinton got a good laugh from this one!

Comment by baby_puppy | 2009-01-04 20:08:17

Robot; I don’t think Bill and Hillary are the type to hold grudges or revel in other’s mistakes. They are of high caliber, which is why we love them. Not perfect just higher than most, integrity-wise.

Also I smell Michelle O and Valerie Jarett all over this Richardson debacle. Totally unprofessional reaction. I can’t see him trying to hide something that is already public record, so I think O knew and decided to get rid of him for reasons unknown, Blagovich not withstanding. This makes me also fear even more for Hillary as SOS.

Comment by jangles | 2009-01-04 19:01:30

There is no political gain for announcing an appointment that is not going to fly. No this was bad work on the part of the transition team. The TT is now checking out how each of its nominees is going to fare in the Senate. When they checked up on Richardson, they discovered that he was in deep trouble probably with Sen Republicans and some Dems. But that should not have happened—you do not plan a political circus with Presidential cabinet appointments. O should be firing somebody on the TT—the person in charge of the Commerce appointment. Would not want to be that person.

Comment by ritamary | 2009-01-04 19:15:40

Here are 3 quick pay-to-play situations Obama was involved in, now will they ever be investigated?

1-Michelle Obama obtaining higher incomes and Board seats based on Obama becoming a US Senator!

2-After a major Exelon leak in upstate Illinois, Obama given and takes on the task of writing up strong legislation to protect the people from Nuclear spills and the forthcomings from it including clean up. Unfortunately, after Obama meets with John Rowe, CEO and Chair of Exelon, all the people of Illinois got was another bagman for Obama’s campaigning finaincing in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and David Axelrod, who’s biggest client at the time was Exelron!

3- Obama finally caves to voter pier pressure and goes off to see the Crown family over the loss of jobs at Maytag and comes out of the meetings with huge bagman for his campaign financing and links for his wife to get better jobs at the U of C hospital, and add to this Obama changing his vote he proclaimed he’d fight to the bitter end on FISA because the Crown family are major stock holders in several phone companies in the US!

Let’s not forget Obama’s appointment approvals for hospital boards as recommended by convicted criminal Rezko while Obama was a State Senator and Rezko being Obama’s largest bagman at the time!

And the list goes on and on, Richardson is a peanut player compared to the Selected next POTUS…….lol

They are remarkably similar.

OH, Richardon is so dirty. This is the man who has his appointees sign a letter of resignation when he hires them, so he can hold that over their heads and if they do something he doesn’t like….or don’t do what HE WANTS, he announes he has accepted their resignation. NO LIE.

Pay for play is a way of life with Billie Boy and brought a level of corruption that would choke Fitzgerald if he had the opportunity to investigate NM. Hard to believe the NM politics could get that dirtier with Richardson, but they did.

And as a local State Senator vented in a farewell letter, he is almost as guilty, because he let Richardson strong arm him.

Here’s the letter he wrote.

11/30/08 – Journal North – State Senator John Grubesic, Letter to the Editor
—————————————————————————————————————-
Richardson Failed To Develop N.M.

In order to speed our governor’s departure, I offer some insight:

Mr. Secretary, in simple terms, your new job is “to foster, promote, and develop the foreign and domestic commerce” of the United States. Additionally you have the responsibility to encourage, serve, and promote the nation’s economic development and technological advancement. Under ordinary circumstances this sounds like a good gig, but that was before multi-billion dollar bailouts and CEOs lining up like drunks in a soup line asking for more, in a nation that no longer believes in itself. Godspeed, Mr. Secretary.

Since one of your duties will be to assist the states with commerce, how about starting with the one you are leaving? After all, with a willing Legislature’s assistance, you have buried our state under a mountain of debt.

How about working a deal to have the feds buy the spaceport. Wait, they already have a couple. How about figuring out how to fund public schools? Last time I checked, they were underfunded by close to 20 percent and that was back in September. Forget the Corrections Department, we have ignored it for decades. Great idea you had to increase penalties and then stick offenders in crumbling, overcrowded corporate-run dungeons. We have done this before — rest in peace, Mr. Duran. Oh, remember the year of the child? Easy to forget when you recognize that we have over 400,000 adults who need basic literacy classes. Under current funding, only 5 percent of these people are getting help. Oops.

How about helping us deal with homelessness, keeping retiree health care solvent or expanding access to doctors in rural areas of our state? Every dollar spent on homelessness could have had significant impact on our budget. You give these people a home and help them stay under a roof, help them resolve mental heath, substance abuse and developmental or medical needs and you would have removed an incredible burden on emergency rooms and other services. Plus, if you don’t already know, they will be glad to tell you in Washington that there are federal matching funds available if a state invests in improving homeless services. How about getting us some? What about the year of water? Where are the regional water systems you promised? I hope the drinking fountains at the spaceport are cold enough….

I can’t lay the blame entirely at your feet for the economic disaster that now confronts our state. As the appropriating body, we gave you the money to spend, but you need to be held accountable. You pulled all of us into your office and twisted arms until the we caved like junkies in a shooting gallery. When you were elected six years ago, you had a tremendous opportunity to change our state and you squandered it. You leave our state on the brink of Third World economic status and have wasted one of the greatest surpluses in the history of New Mexico. You obtained your new job by building your resume with sexy, expensive projects that benefited your political pals and sold our people down the rapidly drying up river. Folks can now ride a train to jobs that will no longer exist.

In Washington, you are no longer the biggest bully in the schoolyard. Now you will answer to one of the smartest individuals this country has ever elected, not to mention one very angry Secretary of State. Does the deal you cut in Iowa still look good? You run Commerce like you ran Energy, and how does Ambassador to the Turkmenistan sound?

Good luck, Mr. Secretary. You got your bailout; don’t forget ours.

Sen. John Grubesic

Santa Fe

lol Well, yeah, I had that problem too, but I guess he didn’t want to p!ss everyone off. And he said smart, which can mean devious too.:)

Yep, it’s what I suspected. Richardson would not have walked away, he was shown the way.

You know that during Richardson’s confirmation hearing this video clip would have come up:

Richardson admits Obama is an immigrant (not a natural born citizen).

That Richardson comment about Obama being an immigrant just has me scratching my head. How much MORE proof do the idiot Obots NEED?

This week is going to be great for the NEW DEMOKRATIC party…Burris situation, Richardson fall out, Blago cooks along, and we see Obama avoid all comminication on Israel..

Change we can believe in.

Hahahahahahaha!

It’s a shame really. The Republicans won’t even have to try in 2010.

Too bad, so sad. But not really.

Mel

Kudos to your post about BO & MO’s “pay for play” situations. I think the public and the honest press is finally waking up to this fraud.

Correction – the public and the honest press are finally waking up……
