Say WHAT, Nancy?!?

(From my blog, Sonic Ninja Kitty.)

You know, I’ve had enough. I have tried to be understanding, assumed I’ve been overreacting, and that this new incoming administration will not be as bad as I’d imagined.

It won’t–it’ll be far worse.

Take a look at how Nancy Pelosi wants to change House procedures according to this article, Pelosi Erases Gingrich’s Long-Standing Fairness Rules, by Connie Hair at humanevents.com (emphases mine):

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes — which may be voted on today — will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America”.

Huh? “…unable to have any influence on legislation”? Isn’t that what each of those Representatives was elected for? To have influence? Well, wait a minute, exactly *what* does she want to change, here?

…the way the House did business included opening committee meetings to the public and media, making Congress actually subject to federal law, term limits for committee chairmen ending decades-long committee fiefdoms, truth in budgeting, elimination of the committee proxy vote, authorization of a House audit, specific requirements for blanket rules waivers, and guarantees to the then-Democrat minority party to offer amendments to pieces of legislation

Let’s take these one by one. So Pelosi wants to CHANGE:

1) “opening committee meetings to the public and media”–to hide WHAT?

2) “making Congress actually subject to federal law”–so they WON’T be subject to federal law, now? Who gets that privilege? And why do they want that privilege?

3) “term limits for committee chairmen ending decades-long committee fiefdoms”–so there will be NO term limits for these chairpersons now?

4) “truth in budgeting”–to be replaced by what, LYING in budgeting?

5) “elimination of the committee proxy vote”–so now they WILL be able to vote by proxy. (No need to actually show up for that exhausting job!)

6) “authorization of a House audit”–NO House audit will be authorized. (Whatever! Whatever! They’ll do what they want! Yes. We are in for Congressional Cartmans.)

7) “specific requirements for blanket rules waivers”–hmm, don’t know what this is, but my guess is less rules for the House = probably not good, especially when combined with point #2.

8 ) “guarantees to the…minority party to offer amendments to pieces of legislation”–so now, offers to the minority party (the Republicans) to make amendments only on what they choose to offer up? That’s more than just partisanship. That’s House dictatorship.

Folks, I think we are in real trouble, here. It’s not funny anymore. It’s not hopey, changey, or feel-good nicey-nice. These people are playing major ball, and we are going to loose the game. I’ve been pilloried and ridiculed for sounding the alarm on everything from Obama’shistoricalSocialist and Marxist connections to Democrats’ proposal to confiscate citizens’ 401Ks. It is time for you Obots to face what’s happening in directly in front of you. Is this really what you planned for America?!?

In terms of the House, your Comrade Nancy Pelosi is locking down power and asphyxiating dissent. Connie Hair sums it up best:

Pelosi’s proposed repeal of decades-long House accountability reforms exposes a tyrannical Democrat leadership poised to assemble legislation in secret, then goose-step it through Congress by the elimination of debate and amendment procedures as part of America’s governing legislative process.

She has the majority–why would she do this? And if she considers the possibility of becoming the minority again, she certainly would not want her new rules to be applicable. Obviously she’s not at all worried about ever becoming the minority again.

It is chilling.

She is not working for the people: for you and me. She is not interested in assembling viewpoints and creating compromises. This is not bi-partisanship. She is working for one idea, one vision only, one shared with Reid and Obama. Something just about like this.

Please stop hoping and start paying attention.

It is most alarming when you take into account that Obama has been using her office and staff for his transitioning, and this comes from her office. Is it possible that this rule change is directly from Obama and being put on her to get it done now, before he is sworn in? I doubt Obama is unaware or opposed to any of this. I think he is behind all of it….and why would this be necessary when they hold a majority unless plans for some of the “new” legislation is more socialist than democratic. In order to ramrod through the ‘changes’ Obama wants they will need to silence dissent and discussion….or be revealed for what and who they are. It is probably to stifle democrats that would be opposed to the changes also.
Obama is not to be trusted….ever. And his personal puppet, Nancy, is just the same, power-grabbing and complicit.

“It is probably to stifle democrats that would be opposed to the changes also.”

Bingo!

And what about all this stuff with Reid? It’s a ruse so the American people don’t know what Nancy, as directed by Obama, is doing with this. Can’t see debate on CSPAN anymore because there won’t be any.

“And his personal puppet, Nancy, is just the same, power-grabbing and complicit.”

Sorry, Ginger, Nancy is NOT Obama’s puppet - he is HER puppet. He owes her everything! She and Howard Dean chose him before he had the courage to even consider running for POTUS.

I do think Obama will eventually usurp all these power houses around him since he is very gutsy while looking humble, loves at least looking like he has the power.

Before it is over Pelosi, Reid, and many others will be kicked under the bus like all the people he uses and then discards -hopefully not our bus! But for now he is like a newborn baby - completely helpless with ignorance about his new job that Pelosi and company secured for him by hook and crook. He could not survive without them. He would not have had the first clue about all these new house rules Pelosi is putting in place - how could he w/ 2 years in US Senate and running for POTUS before he even got there.

Nancy Pelosi is the most powerful person in this country right now! (Please note that I didn’t say woman. Pelosi is no feminist or advocate for women. She’s a “good ol’ boy”.) Pelosi is the new Dick Chaney - NOT Joe Biden. Obama will not be doing anything without checking with Nancy first. Oh, and BTW, Pelosi’s father was the Mayor of Baltimore - another Chicago! She learned her lessons well at her father’s knee.

They don’t want to change shit…they don’t want to be accountable. It’s a trademark of the generation of the voters they represent. And they’ll still be blaming Bush like they’ve been doing for the last 8 years even though the last 2 they have been in control of Congress and have been an utter disaster.

The only way to put this to rest is to let them make their bed and then lay in it.

In the Pelosi-0bama-Reid regime, elections are no longer necessary.

They plan to install themselves for life.

Here is the motive for the Rick Warren/Tim Kaine distractions, to throw the right wing off guard. They - and PUMA, and a few responsible American citizens, are the only ones will object to the Pelosi maneuver. The 0b0ts will line up solidly behind the new regime.

Comment by Sonic Ninja Kitty | 2009-01-06 16:12:54

Oh yeah, and all the hubbub about Burris, too! Why are we all standing around razzing Reid? It’s a relatively inconsequential event but is serving to deflect attention quite well. This is part of the Alinsky method.

Comment by FranSC | 2009-01-06 23:41:11

The thing I’ve most enjoyed about all the Reid hubub is the fact he has had to defend himself and say he isn’t a racist. Maybe he can understand how some of the rest of us, including Bill Clinton, have felt. Calling liberal democrats “racists” is a new low and very much associated with Obama, Axelrod and the rest of his sleezy mob.

How are you going to sleep now? With one eye open to the alarming fact that in my 52 years of life on this chaotic planet, North America has moved nine feet away from Europe and is heading lickety-split to god knows where. Do you realize that Anthropocentric Continental Drift (ACD) is responsible for all earthquakes, tsunamis, and most volcanoes? I’ve already filled my boat up twice with the largest rocks that I can lift and dropped them off the Washington coast in a one man effort to jamb up and prevent the Pacific plate from being subducted under the North American plate. Sadly, I have the distinct impression that my efforts are falling somewhat short of my intended goal of bringing ACD to a screaching halt. I would like some feedback on my possible creation of an ACD foundation for the purpose of collecting large donations to help me in my quest. Any suggestions would be appreciated! There’s no time to waste!

To be fair the Repubs did lock Dems out of meetings and force them into small basement rooms for hearings.

This appears, and hopefully it’s not, to be an attempt to lock even the American public out of the political discourse.

That’s dangerous and alarming no matter what side of the aisle it comes from.

candyman: You are exactly right. I can’t get on board with Republicans who come to criticize Democrats for things aren’t even on the radar in comparison with the stuff the Republican majority and Dubya did.

And suggesting that Democrats be used as human shields? Isn’t that the kind of thing we all criticized the ‘bots for?

Comment by obamastolemyboyfriend(akaCsuzeq) | 2009-01-06 18:43:54

Sorry. That was me. blame no others. I’m just preparing for civil war. It is either that or we sit with this shit and worse for the rest of the existence of America.

You can’t hurt a bot though. they have no funtioning brains, no hearts (except for the one) and I’m not sure anything else you could hurt! They are like talking to a rock.

Comment by Snickers | 2009-01-06 19:44:15

Obamastolemyboyfriend,
I agree it’s going to get much, much worse. Once Pelosi gets done with “shaking the House in order,” it will be the public who loses. First it was Dubya with his corruption and now its the big O (zero) and all his minions. The Senate is being turned into a House of Lords, and the House into Nancy’s personal fiefdom, and then there’s the Supreme Dictator, Dear Leader…It’s no longer even remotely funny.

It’s the new Democratic Party. I saw it during the primary at our state convention and assembly. We Hillary delegates were laughed at because our ballot was so long. Our delegates actually go the chance to campaign for a slot in the national convention. The Obots laughed at us as we waited in line to vote since Hillary’s ballots were so long. The bots were told they didn’t have to worry since he campaign committee had already filled in their choices for them. They just got to sign. One of the bots went past me as I stood in line and as the bot line was moving more quickly. He made a smarmy remark at how much better the O campaign functioned. I simply responded that the description we received about their ballots reminded me of the descript we had gotten in high school government classes about the way Soviet ballots used to work.

He was just confused and didn’t know what I meant.

Upon taking power in 1933, the Nazi Party behaved in precisely the same manner. The Nazis began to eliminate ALL other political parties by essentially making them illegal. Within five years Germany had become a single party state. Any opposition had three choices; shut up, flee, or die.

If Pelosi manages this death blow to the minority, why would ANY Republicans even bother leaving their districts and go to Washington? What would be the point?

Comment by Sonic Ninja Kitty | 2009-01-06 16:39:22

As a side note, last weekend I saw Valkerie. It was incredibly interesting–don’t listen to the ‘professional’ reviewers. I never knew the German resistance was so widespread. Many recognized the evilness of Hitler and the corner they were trapped in. Von Stauffenberg agonized over what it all meant for the German people. I know it’s a movie interpretation, but still, you learn a lot.

Watch Judgment at Nuremberg for some really good history lessons. I’m afraid I can’t stand Tom Cruise, so I won’t watch his latest. But Spencer Tracy, Judy Garland, Burt Lancaster, Marlena Dietrich, Richard Widmark, and Maximillian Schell did a fabulous job and it deserves a second and third and fourth watching.

Seriously, no administration in the history of this country could possibly be as threatening as the Dubya & Dick. Calling Democrats Nazis is just over the top. If there is a conspiracy to put certain candidates in office and eliminate others, it’s the corporate gurus who are behind it and they are Republicans one and all.

Comment by Sonic Ninja Kitty | 2009-01-06 18:16:25

You’re right, tek. Democrats are not Nazis. The concern here is any party who gets too concentrated in their power without allowing the other to voice dissent.

Actually Tek, the Obama tactics this past election, the misogyny, the sexism, the homophobia, the racism, the lies, the corruption, the strong-armed tactics like harassment and intimidation and threats, rivals the Dubya gang. Any political group who seizes power the way both Parties have done in the last election cycles spells disaster for the electorate. This new bunch isn’t even installed yet and the scandals and didactic methods of control are already being put into play. This is not a game, this is our country whose Constitution and laws are being threatened and trampeled on. And what happens here, affects the world. Throw in the economic crisis and nothing good is bound to happen - despite this “historic” event.

Comment by andrew191 | 2009-01-06 22:29:09

You are making a temporal mistake when you assume that I am comparing the Democrat Party to the Nazi Party that is viewed from our current position in history. During the 30’s the Nazi Party had yet to achieve it’s place in history as the standard for evil that we use as a comparison for current evils. Quite the contrary. During the 30’s the Nazis were admired around the world, the ‘36 Olympics were held in Germany, their eugenics programs were lauded by such luminaries as Margaret Sanger (the founder of our current abortion policies), Luther Burbank, and many others.

Try to place yourself in 1935 and erase what history has taught you about the horrors that eventually transpired around the world due to the rabid devotion to a charismatic madman. From a 1935 perspective, the Nazis might not appear to be so bad, a political party that managed to slow down hyper-inflation, put everyone to work, and elevate Germany above crushing sanctions imposed from WWI. Nazi had yet to become a dirty word. Comparing todays Democrats to ’30’s Nazis is not a stretch, it’s accurate for many reasons.

Comment by toni | 2009-01-07 02:54:28

What did the Dems promise in 06 when we the people elected them into office? That they would reverse the direction that the country was heading in under Bush. They ended 08 with the lowest apporval ratings of any Congress in hsitory and didn’t do crap but protect their own interests. Now we have an obamaination in office with a socialist, radical background with radical associates, fascist money men and a media willing to create distractions in order for them to further their Chavezian, Stalinist agenda. As soon as that man steps into the WH, the takeover will be fast and furious–whether the people will revolt against the destruction of democratic principles and their basic freedoms remains to be seen. These are desperate times and desperate people generally don’t think, they follow.

Comment by Pennsylvania Red | 2009-01-06 15:24:34

48% of Americans expect Congress to more cooperative.

If you go into the body of the article, you will find that as of last week, Pelousy had an unfavorable rate of 53%, with 38% of those polled viewing her as highly unfavorable.

It will be interesting to witness this troika of power-grabbers attempt their coup with a public that doesn’t like them and a mandate that doesn’t exist.

(They must think all those fraudulent votes count as real citizens. Power lust does that to a brain.)

That is a bad bet even with the points…

The republicans are getting their just desserts for what they have done over the last 6-8 years. I haven’t forgotten what they did. Tom Delay strong arming congress people to vote the way HE wanted them to vote….making THREATS to them and had one congress woman in TEARS. Leaving votes open for HOURS past the required time for voting until they could threaten enough people to get in line. Let’s see….they called the Capitol police on the Democrats because they wanted to sit in on a committee meeting and Bill Thomas called the police on them. They blocked the Democrats from adding amendments to legislation. They can both go to hell as quickly as possible, it’s about the people that these tactics impact, the laws that get trampled, and the end justifying the means mentality. Someone has to say stop and begin civil discourse and allow everyone a voice in Congress, no matter what Party they are a part of. They had power and by G-d, they were going to use it and use it they did. No one should expect anything different than what the Democrats are going to dish out. They had it shoved down THEIR throats for 8 freakin’ years. Now it’s time for the repubs to pay for what they did. Had they been a kinder, more gentle Republican Congress, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion. The days of politicians from opposing parties working TOGETHER are gone. The Republicans like Tom Delay made sure of it.

Comment by Sonic Ninja Kitty | 2009-01-06 17:09:55

It’s Not Me–I understand your anger. You have reasons, however, what is the way forward? And if Democrats loose the majority in 2 or 4 years, are they to expect reciprocal treatment? Again, the people get lost in the shuffle (and pay for it all as well). Our economy cannot be ignored at this time.

Comment by NoBamaNoWay | 2009-01-06 18:19:01

(repeating this from above):
the problem is that THEY (the republicans) are not the only ones who are going to “get it.” WE are going to get screwed when the Obamofacists establish their dictatorship. those thugs sure as heck do not represent my interests. and as noted, two wrongs do not make a right, and i hold my (former?) party to a higher standard than i hold the republicans. if we’re no better than them, then what’s the point of winning?

Comment by It's Not Me | 2009-01-06 18:43:04

WE are going to get screwed no matter who has the power. Fisa? Impeachment? Gonzo? Bankruptcy Bill? Alito? Roberts? Harriet Meyers? KKKRove? Wall Street bailout? Are you kidding me? We are nothing but the puppets in this dog and pony show. We are the puppets who give our hard earned money to those freaks to help elect them and expect them to do what we elect them to do and they NEVER DO. Come on. The People of this country lost control of our government a LONG time ago.

Comment by Snickers | 2009-01-06 20:34:39

if you believe we have already lost the government than we are truly lost.
We need to retake the government. Those of us here at NQ can mobilize, right now. We need to retake Congress in two years. We need to find candidates who have integrity and are as disgusted as we with this sham election and Bush’s sham election. I would suggest that we find candidates who are willing to run as Independents or run ourselves as Independents. Once we have enough Independents we can change the two-party system from within. BUT WE NEED TO START NOW. We need to start fundraising and lining up our candidates. A lot is going to happen in the next two years, I doubt much of it will be good. But even if the Obama administration does a good job (I doubt that for even a second), how he got selected is relevant. We can’t be complicit in this. We need to strategize and prepare for 2010. If you are interested in joining this effort, let me know through your post.

You can count me in. We need to do something about the horrible noise first, though (MSM).

It will take a while before O can do anything about Nancy crossing him. She is more powerful than he is because she put him where he is. He’s the newborn now. He has to learn to roll over, sit up, crawl, then walk, then talk. He has a long way to go before he can kick her under the bus - but he will. He’s that kind.

Washington will not change. I really think that McCain/Palin just might have changed things but not so with Dems moving back into full power. They are even more emboldened by the Franken outcome and I bet they seat Burris to shore up their Senate majority. I am so disappointed in my government. I wish Canada was not so damn cold.

Comment by rolling_thunder | 2009-01-06 18:06:44

Burris was barred from the Senate today…this is radical. This is not right. He’s legit and eligible.

No surprises here. She will produce the same design that the Bushies did but with a leftist agenda. Cute names for programs that are designed to produce the opposite…From the Right, Clean Air Act…remove regulations from polluters.

And from the Lefties, Fairness Doctrine…shut down the right wing radio hosts. I don’t listen to Rush but he has the right to keep his audience.

Neither serve the people. Bipartisanship! Anything but.

Comment by Pennsylvania Red | 2009-01-06 16:44:00

I don’t see how the “Fairness Doctrine” will fly.

Whether you agree with the content or not, those right wing radio hosts are bringing in beaucoup bucks for their affiliates. How will the corporate honchos and station managers react to the possibility of the bulk of their ad revenue going right down the crapper?

As I said before; “If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, you shouldn’t expect it to turn out to be a unicorn.

And I don’t think we’re yelling “I TOLD YOU SO!” loud enough.

Comment by Zeke | 2009-01-07 03:22:37

The sweetness of saying that is far in the future my friend but if we don’t have a plan in mind, we could be in for a serious fight.
I feel there may come a time when some of the suckers who voted for Obama will see the error of their ways. This could be hurried up by the MSM. They’re just dramatically inclined enough to think it’ll make good ratings. But no matter what,
the “WORM” will turn, the Chickens come home to roost and this travesty who has lied his way into the White House will get his turn in the Barrel.
What is unknown is what, in the end, it will cost America… and can she afford the price.
It may turn into a case of the last two guys hanging on the rail of the Titanic and one says to the other, “I told you that was a frikken iceberg didn’t I?”

Whatever anyone has to say they had better say it now because that constitutional right will not be available much longer. Pelosi had better enjoy her power while she can because Islamics or Muslim, or whatever the hell Obama is, have no respect for pigs at all.

The repubs demonized the democrats as unpatriot, weak, immortal, baby killers, no boundaries, hate america first. It worked and they enjoyed majorities for years.

Now the demos have demonized the repubs as mean, rich first, don’t like the middle class, no regulations, torturers. It worked and now they can do what they want and the american people will say good because we don’t want those mean repub making or even involved in rules, regs, and laws anymore. UNTIL they screw up and then the reps will be in control again.

It is not the party it is the POWER. It is true absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Everytime I hear an american citizen say well it is the repubs fault I WANT TO SCREAM. It is your fault for being duped time in and time out.

Evolve and Learn PLEASE!!!

Nazi Pelosi has a crush on Obama. Did you see her on TV with him looking all in love?
Gag me with a spoon.
Change the voting age to 21 because kids voted for skin color and don’t know what they are voting for.
Thanks for the story because the media won’t mention it. NOW WHAT? Nazi Pelosi is the acting president more so than Cheney.

My apologies to Sonic Kitty, but i found something on againstobama.com that explains why Richardson was forced to resign. Evidently it’s just one more case of Obama taking money from corrupt individual. Personally I want to know. How long is it going to take my fellow americans to dislodge their heads from their rectums? Blacks were shown today that Obama doesn’t give a flying flip about them, as did ladies, and the gays and lesbian community. And i’m sure the bots will be indignant. Ohhhhh this proves nothing, but how many times does a person have to kick you for you to get the idea, they are not your friends. How hard is it to vet someone, instead of calling every single indication that this person is a criminal a distraction? It was done with bush and his war, and it’s now being done with obama. And personally i’m sick of it.

Well good, Nancy’s continuous actions will cause a loss in the midterms. People were already not happy with her, but decided to give the majority because of W.

Maybe she’ll finally lose her seat in 2010 along with Dirty Harry Reid.

I am sooooo glad I left the Democratic Party.

Comment by USA must remain a Democracy | 2009-01-07 01:50:23

Nancy is not taking any chances, she’s not going to wait for mid-term elections to dethrone her. She will start the first 100 days of Bush’s 3rd term.

Bush III will only tolerate Nancy until the first time she disagrees with him and than she will be a non-entity.

So, what are WE the people going to do? Are WE going to just blog about the wrong direction the USA is heading? IMO, we need to mobilize like we did for Hillary. How are we going to find out what’s going on inside of Congress? Will we just sit quietly and keep blogging our dissatisfaction? I already started sending articles of our new Democracy to people who voted for Bush III. I’m awaiting their response.

We need direction and focus. We need to awaken the sleepy, complacent people of America. Will there be a Boston Tea Party? Will we follow the footsteps of our forefathers and have a George Washington or a Thomas Jefferson?

Waiting for Bush III to get inaugurated will be too late. We need to start, like yesterday, voicing our opinion and dissatisfaction with what is going on. We need to let the powers to be know, that our voice will not be silent and complacent.

So…where is a link to these proposals, other than “Human Events”…that rag is always willing to publish trash from Ann Coulter and other wingnuts from the right…what makes the insinuation true?

Please send a source of Pelosi’s changes or something other than what the letter in the article says.

In the article there is a letter from Republicans that says, “according to media reports”…but media reports aren’t rules submissions.

Where are these rules published other than Human Events?

Note: I want Pelosi in prison with Cheney and Bush for failing to impeach. I want her and Reid removed from leadership.

But I also want responsible sourcing in journalism, so please submit links to these “rules”

Comment by Naked Bunny with a Whip | 2009-01-07 05:09:30

I was wondering that, too. The Obama hate is so thick here that this unsourced PDF file from a right-wing blog is taken at face value (and somehow made Obama’s fault). So much for “fact-based, verified commentary”.

When I wrote this article its purpose was to bring attention to the impending event. As of Wednesday, 1-7-09, you can look up and read the exact House activity record at http://thomas.lov.gov (the Library of Congress aka “THOMAS”). Type in “house rules changes” with the date 01/06/09. It’s all there.
