What’s An Obot?

I recently read a comment from an Obama supporter here at No Quarter, who asked, “What’s an Obot?”
I think he was serious! Of course, an Obot is an Obama Robot, programmed to see Obama as good and pure, incapable of evil, and a hero who must be robustly defended from criticism.
The word “Obot” came about mostly to describe a paid blogger; there were lots of those during the long campaign. Many were only in it for the money, but most truly believed they were fighting the good fight by attacking his opponents and their supporters mercilessly… and sometimes nonsensically. They were given daily email calls to action, with talking points (they all said the same things), and were basically brain-washed kids.
The word kind of evolved from that, coming to include all those zombies who relentlessly visit anti-Obama blogs and spew their opposition to anyone who doesn’t get on the Obamawagon. Some argue intelligently, and they don’t really deserve the epithet, but there are so many who are just trolls, idiots, and really do seem to be programmed, just like real robots!
This question, “what’s an Obot?” kind of reminded me of ten years ago when people just joining chat groups would ask, “What’s LOL?” “What’s IMHO?” And one of my favorites, “What’s STFUYMFPOS?”
It also reminded me of a person I mentioned in my last piece, Jeff Foxworthy. That guy made himself a celebrity with one cute idea: “You might be a redneck if…”
So with his shtick in mind, I got to thinking of some defining characteristics of Obots, hoping to milk some humor from it, derivative or not.
I also thought this will make a great group effort! I’ll start off with some of the obvious ones, and you readers can chime in with whatever strikes your fancy to add to the list. If it’s funny, that’s great, but it needn’t be. Some things about Obots are just not funny, no matter how hard you try.
So here’s my starter list:
YOU MIGHT BE AN OBOT IF…
You feel tingles running up or down your legs when That One is orating. (OK, I’m just getting warmed up, and I had to get that one out of my system. 
You’ve never paid any attention to politics until Obama ran for President, and now you’ve become a political expert by reading Huffington Post and/or Daily Kos.
You get called a Cheetoh a lot but you don’t know why.
You believe there are only about 200 PUMAs in the country.
You weep with joy while repeating the mantra “YES WE CAN!”
You think Hillary Clinton tried to “steal” the Democratic nomination.
You fly into a rage when anyone suggests Obama is unqualified for the presidency.
You’ve used the word “racist” more than any other word in the last year.
You’ve developed a keen interest in Hawaiian body surfing.
For the first time in your life, you are proud of your country, but only because it elected a black president.
You believe that with Obama as president, this is a New Age when all wars will end, everyone will be provided for, and you don’t have to worry about paying your mortgage anymore!
You think Obama is a Great Man because of his magnificent accomplishments … like getting elected, and uh, uh, uh…
You think all Hillary Clinton supporters are middle-aged lesbians (not that there’s anything… yada yada yada… )
You get a lump in your throat when you hear the words “President Obama.”
You get a lump in your pants when you see Michelle Obama.
You think Bill Ayers was a non-issue, and was done wrong by the evil media.
You plan to name your children Barack and Baracka.
You believe that saying his middle name is racist.
You think the political platform of “change” is original to Obama.
You believe PUMAs are Republicans pretending to be disaffected Democrats, kind of like Joe Lieberman.

You’ll be shocked to discoverthat George Bush and his administration have had a more positive and effective contribution to Africa in the form of AIDS relief, and fighting insect born deseases, than any preceding administration or organization around the world.

I read the article and when I viewed it with my “spin deleting” goggles on, I found nothing very monumental or significant regarding WJBC’s contribution to the advancement of the AA community. And if that’s the best that anyone can do to lionize WJBC, I suggest that his reflexive worshippers should all take a course in critical thinking, hopefully you’ll be sitting next to Obots that should be legally ordered to take the course.

And, if war is the failure of diplomacy (per political science theory) Lincoln (& his administration) failed at negotiation (southern states seceded in a three waves, not all at once) and leveraging. I saw the plates at Walgreens. The first thing that popped into my head: “Oh, how great. Obama wants his face on that huge pile of shit that he’s about to feed people.”
At Christmas time a wonderful lady came in with a big picture of Obama and wanted mugs, shirts, and other things printed in their little shop.
They explained that they couldn’t because of copyright laws that limit them. She was cool about it, but suggested she’d go to Kinkos, who still couldn’t do it there I’m sure.
I was trying so hard not to be disrespectful to her because clearly she was happy and it was Christmas. But…what a gift…uh…not.
I truly think he is trying to reel in as much money as he can so he can make a fast get away if he has to.
I think based on how Obama is pissing people off before he is sworn in that he has no intention of running for a second term in 2012. For a while I had hoped that maybe he would do a good job because of running for reelection and also because he wanted to make history and in his mind be the best President ever! Well now I think that he is not going to run for 2012 because he would not want to get voted out and/or he has never held a real job this long so how can even make it through 4, let alone 8???? Maybe he and Hillary made a deal that she would let him have this in 2008 and then she gets SOS and he doen’t run in 2012 so she can!
A lovely fantasy but unless he becomes uber-exhausted, a la “come on guys, can’t I just eat my waffle…” you can be sure he will run for re-election.
He already is — why do you think he has asked Rick Warren to do the Invocationm at the Inauguration — he is courting evangelicals — a big, juicy voting block ripe for the picking in his view.
As far as he is concerned, women, GLBT, the AA community are notches on his bedpost to whom he can say (as he said re FISA this year) “I understand if this is a dealbreaker, but where else are you gonna go” whenever he pisses any of them off.
He is very cocky and assumes no one will abandon him - he can just ‘turn on the charm’ and get everyone to fall into line.
Only his only boredom and pique at have to really DO the job would stop him. Then he would invent some excuse after 4 years and step down for health reasons. (But I doubt it.)

Au contraire - he owns the rights to his own image, and if these things were produced w/out permission, the lawsuits would be HUGE. I’d love to know what his take is from all that crap.
Not only does he own his image…but think about this…exactly TWO DAYS after he allegedly “won” MSNBC was selling those plates. Logic tells me that the fix was in, otherwise why would they be advertising those plates so soon? They have to do contracts, create the item, etc. BEFORE they can sell it. If anything tells me this was fixed, that does.
