ACTION ALERT: Ms. Magazine Boycott
By HillaryOrBust on January 10, 2009 at 3:00 PM in Equal Pay, Feminism, Gender Bias, Misogyny, Sexism
Editor’s Note: This is a special guest post from the blog, HillaryOrBust.com.
Well, we are officially living in the United States of Bizarroland. In a year in which we should by all rights be inaugurating our first woman president, Ms. magazine, which used to be the go-to mag for all things feminist, has turned into a fawning teen rag ala Tiger Beat. With an inaugural issue featuring Barack Obama as the feminist Superman (oh, the irony), Ms. has officially lost any clout as the magazine for thinking feminists. It is clear, from this cover, that the backlash predicted by Susan Faludi so many years ago has done its work. Now women who call themselves feminists can’t even see the irony in honoring the male candidate that beat the woman candidate for president through blatant voter fraud and massive sexism.
For those of us real feminists, 2008 was a horrific year in which the best and brightest women politicians in America were smeared and laughed at, while a junior senator with little experience and hardly any real accomplishments to his name sailed through to the presidency thanks to a fawning media, when by all rights he should have been Hillary’s VP.
To top it all off, this same man spurned a woman as his own vice president pick, instead choosing a white male from the establishment, who is best known not for his feminist leanings, but for his “off-color” (read: offensive) comments. Biden is the guy who said you knew lots of immigrants from India were around, due to their presence in 7-11s and Dunkin Donuts, remember?
So what has happened to the women who run Ms. magazine? Have they lost their minds? It appears that they’ve let their vaginas get the best of them as they’ve gotten caught up in their own Obamagasms.
Let’s take a good look at the imagery on this cover. It shows Obama in a Superman pose. He’s painted as heroic, with a shirt on that says “This is what a feminist looks like.” What’s next? A cover with Sarah Palin as the arch-villain, with her head shaved like Lex Luthor, and a shirt that says “This is not what a feminist looks like?”
Ah, now we know that it’s men, not women, who are here to save the day.
What is the message of the Superman mythology? Let’s recap the story a bit: We have a superhuman man, the “Man of Steel,” who saves the world. Lois Lane, normally an intelligent, independent woman and an accomplished reporter in her own right, becomes a weak-kneed little girl around Superman, losing her head everytime he flies into her life. Yet, the mild-mannered, normal, good guy, Clark Kent, receives little to no attention from Lois.
Lois, is as such, the stereotypical social climbing woman who eschews the good man in front of her for the strong mysterious hero she worships. She favors celebrity over substance, a fantasy over the reality in front of her.
A good metaphor as any for Obama, I suppose.
It became clear to me during the primaries that the reason many women supported Obama wasn’t for his actual record or day-to-day work ethic. They worshiped him because they thought he was handsome - a black George Clooney representing a mythical hero that would save them from their dull, dreary lives. It becomes clear, then, that the women who put Obama on the cover of Ms. magazine in mythic, heroic splendor, have unwittingly played into their own brainwashed fantasies of the strong man who will come to save them.
A much more appropriate and daring cover would have been a photo of Hillary Clinton as “Madame President” and the tagline - “What could have been.”
And what, pray tell, does Ms. magazine think a “feminist” does? What exactly has Obama done for women in his career, besides pushing through a controversial measure that would let babies from botched abortions die?
OK, so officially he is “pro-choice, ” but big deal - so are most Democrats. Not that Obama’s official stand means anything these days. He’s as likely to flip-flop on that as he did on FISA.
From my view, Obama has done nothing for women at all in his career. Nothing. In fact, he’s done more harm than good. He ran a campaign to destroy Hillary when he is young enough that he could have been a VP for 8 years and then spent another 8 as president. He opposes gay marriage. He appointed anti-choice Tim Kaine as head of the DNC.
THIS IS FEMINISM?
Ms. Magazine, you should be ashamed of yourselves for your cover. You’ve permanently lost me as a reader or supporter.
ACTION STEPS TO TAKE
1. Boycott Ms. magazine. Cancel your subscription and do not purchase the inaugural issue.
2. Contact Ms. magazine to complain: Call 1-800-787-1414
3. Send an email: mkort@msmagazine.com, letterstotheeditor@msmagazine.com, contentsuggestions@msmagazine.com
Ms. has officially “jumped the shark” and it’s probably a lost cause, but we do need to let these faux feminists know that they do not speak for us.
Editor’s Note: This is a special guest post from the blog, HillaryOrBust.com.

Thanks for the info. As I posted on the other thread, we HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. For the love of God, haven’t we taken enough yet? Let’s all let them know how we feel. I never bought that rag anyway, but I will make sure my friends and family all know about this too.
YES WE CAN!
Nominate the issue for NOW’s Media Hall of Shame.
http://www.now.org/issues/media/hall_of_shame/suggestion.html
I wrote an email, and went to the Hall of Shame.
Of course, NOW itself fits into that category, endorsing Obama in the first place…
Great call to action - this was simply reprehensible on the part of Ms. Magazine. They completely sold women out with this one.
Rev. Amy — what I do NOT get — is that these faux feminist attacked Sarah Palin who called herself a feminist (and she is a real feminist) — and the very person who attacked women, who under pays women on his staff — HE is now being called a feminist?
If HE is a feminist — then the world (my world) has been turned upside down.
If HE is the new definition of feminist — then that word is no longer useful — it has been trashed by sexist pigs.
yep; if obama’s a feminist, who needs feminists? time to get a new word to describe people who actually believe in equal rights and respect for women.
this magazine will one day regret this stupid cover. this is just disgusting.
This cover is not only blatant propaganda, but a ridiculous attempt to REHABILITATE this guy for posterity and the history books.
Following this kind of pretzel logic, MS’s next cover should be of Pres GWB representing the most ardent proponent of human rights and democracy.
Would be L-ingOL if this weren’t so pathetic.

We will never get the respect we deserve as human beings so long as we continue to pretend it (misogyny/sexism) isn’t happening and don’t hold those that partake in it accountable. I will not give this man a free pass and he IS NOT A FEMINIST! Sarah Palin wasn’t but he is?????????? PLEASE!

This might be a case of lets pretend we are in a tower and mean bobby will rescue us…yea right…think again its all pretend.

I don’t have anything to cancel. But I can write.
I can also sort of understand these AssHats at MSsogynist Magazine. They are obviously only in it for the money and in order to survive they figure they have to bend over and get on board the abuser express.
Feck ‘em
NH,
that is too funny. I was just going to comment that Ms. must now stand for mysogynist.
Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid stupid women.
Gloria Steinem, what the F is going on over there?
Gloria Steinem? The woman who VIOLENTLY trashed Sarah Palin. LMFAO. That’s NOT a “feminist.” She’s just way too out of touch and needs to GO.
Steinem didn’t “violently trash” Palin. She actually, with civility, pointed out that Palin’s politics were not her own. Steinem was fine up until then. But then she made the rather
odd jump in logic that somehow Obama would be better for women’s rights than Palin. Something many of us did/do not agree with (and we’re certainly being proven right).
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-steinem4-2008sep04,0,7915118.story
Steinem’s own words…”Palin only shares a chromosome with Clinton.” I find what Steinem wrote about Palin unforgivable. Sorry, but I do.
Gloria Steinem Sarah Palin LA Times article is causing controversy after Gloria Steinem blasted Sarah Palin in an article. Election is over. Sarah Palin did not win but Sarah Palin continues to be a hot topic online.
Below is the Gloria Steinem article about Sarah Palin.
Palin: wrong woman, wrong message
Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.
By Gloria Steinem.
Here’s the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that even the anti-feminist right wing — the folks with a headlock on the Republican Party — are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-ever female vice president. We owe this to women — and to many men too — who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted violence at the polls so women can vote. We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the “white-male-only” sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.
But here is even better news: It won’t work. This isn’t the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It’s about making life more fair for women everywhere. It’s not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It’s about baking a new pie.
“Baking a new pie.” Steinem has lost it. What is she, the feminist Martha Stewart?
That she called Palin “unqualified” is absolutely mindboggling.
correct. palin is unqualified, but obama is qualified??!! i hate it when people who are supposedly on my side lie to me.
WTF! Gov Palin is no Phyllis Schlafly! This is absurd! Comparing Palin to the anti feminist Phyllis?
I feel sick.
Steinem STFU!
That’s why the so-called “feminist” movement is dead and Steinem needs to be removed as any kind of example/icon for young women. She’s way off the rails, the attack on Palin was vicious, untrue and over the top. That’s WHY we need to start another woman’s movement that isn’t a bunch of vicious biddies. I was so ashamed to be a female this election watching my so called “sisters” with their fangs out over Palin. My feeling is that we only win the sexism battle if we all support EACH OTHER, regardless of whether someone doesn’t share our views 100%. if we continue to divide ourselves, why should men take us seriously?
No kidding. We have let the choice issue become a monolith, dividing us over religious lines. We need to move past that.
Exactly! And I for one do not want my reproductive organs to be the REASON I end up with another Fraudbama.
Steinem is simply proving what Palin says - she was trashed because of class differences. And we all know the N.Y. intelligentsia is always right.
Since when is being a teacher like both Palin’s parents lower class? If Palin is being compared to Caroline Kennedy and called lower class, that would include most everyone. And, frankly, Caroline’s wealth and education didn’t seem to help her much in her recent interviews.
If it is about ivy-league schools, there is still a shocking number of people in this country who don’t even graduate from high school. Where does this high and mighty stuff come from? If you are going to hold elective office, you have to relate to working-class people.
I agree, OIAF.
If you feel that way about Steinem, don’t even read anything Robin Morgan wrote. She was cribbing from Andrew Sulliven.
Does she mean like what MEchelle said?
To give away our piece of pie or take a smaller piece?
anti-feministanti-Steinem right wingObama is a fraud
I agree completely with what you’re saying — Gloria needs to retire and go into seclusion.
Palin IS a feminist. PERIOD!
However — the faux feminist like Gloria seem to have set up a new meaning and only THEY can choose who is or who is NOT a feminist.
I got fed up with these faux feminist but never explain why. Now I know.
Steinem is no longer involved with Ms Magazine. This is now Ellie Smeal’s “baby.”
Any woman who was willing to switch to Obama before the end of June 2008 is no feminist in my book. These women apparently think believing in “abortion rights” means they are a feminist. Gloria Steinem knows better than this yet she was one of those switching to Obama within minutes.
I think Gloria bought into the tired old Obama camp argument of not allowing a republican the opportunity of appointing conservative supreme court justices. She and her Ms. cohorts need to ask themselves which is more damaging to women as a whole - 1) electing a republican who appoints a conservative supreme court justice OR 2) defeating the candidate that promotes, participates in, and or allows sexism on a level that defeated the best chance women have ever had to win the White House. EVEN if the defeated nominee was a democrat that believes in abortion! That is beside the point.
I am much more concerned about women being respected as equals to men, removal of the glass ceiling, and equal pay than I ever will be about having abortion rights. Abortion has taken over the women’s movement. What good is reproductive freedom without the above mentioned core rights?
I say we are in much worse shape as women to have what we got than if we had made him lose the election. If we could have defeated Obama, that would have sent a much stronger message that sexism would not be tolerated. As it is, anti-feminists think the women’s vote is irrelavant going forward.
correct. women will be no further along 4 years from now than they are today. if anything, they may be in a worse position. women gave it away for free to obama, and nobody pays for something that they can get for free.
Zingggg!
And NOW stands for NOT NOW.
Oh yes. I think I’ll go to the store now, and buy my magazine and write MSsogynist and put it back in the rack.
LOL
The ghosts of feminism past, feminism present and feminism future need to visit the editors of Ms.
magazine and seriously rattle some chains in their addled minds.
Thank you for sharing my post.
When I was younger, I had a dream of someday writing for Ms. magazine. Gloria Steinem was an idol of mine.
To see them fall to such blatant propaganda and misogyny is in some ways the biggest betrayal of all.
I hope they go out of business over this. I really do.
I felt the same way. Feel rather nauseous at the moment.
same here
can’t comment
it would not be pretty
I would probably get banned
Where do we stand at this point… Fifteen men appointed to the Cabinet, five women.
Janet Napolitano (my Dem governor, appointed to Sec. Homeland Security) has been replaced by our Republican SOS who has dedicated and devoted herself to disenfranchising Latino and Native American voters.
Thanks tons, Bunko.
She didn’t have to accept the appointment. Face it - she deserted Arizona for Washington and didn’t care what the consequences in the state were..
I had always thought her plan was to run against Kyl. He is so entrenched, no one else could possibly take him on. But a bird in the hand, etc. She jumped the AZ ship for O even before the primary.
Are you effing kidding????
It’s the end of the world as we know it but I guess that already happened last November.
Argh.
Email already sent. Let’s say I was polite (no profanity) but blistering.
thank you, thank you, thank you for this thread.
this is what I sent the rag:
“Who does your magazine covers? Just wondering what a feminist stands for nowadays. It can’t be for women’s rights since you put a sexist misogynist man on your newest cover. Pathetic and a disgrace to women’s rights. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
women like this MAKE ME SICK. Pathetic, spineless and brainless. They deserve what they get.
Please go see the “variations on a theme” about the MS Cover done over at The Confluence. It is hysterical.
http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/01/10/action-alert-ms-magazine-boycott/#more-10667
Oopsie. Wrong link obviously.
http://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/i-see-feministstheyre-everywhereand-they-dont-even-know-theyre-feminists/
awesome, thanks. I love the tweety cover
Yes, HillaryOrBust, this is indeed the heart of the matter. And this fake Superhero is the same “strong man” who, along with his posse, trampled over two wonderful women in his pursuit of power. Disgusting!
Can anyone bit the bullet for ONE copy to scour the rag for Ads? I’d love to know who put their ads in this month, so we can contact them as well.
I’ve found this to be the most effective way to get results. I’ve politely called these companies, like Procter and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson, Kraft foods, etc, along with other people and seen the (in this case Television stations) target of the boycott cave.
This truly insulting.
No need to buy the magazine - write down the main advertisers at the newsstand but don’t purchase it.
Or get it at the library if your library has it.
Who is Ms. Magazine’s parent company? Boycott them too.
I believe Ellie Smeal’s The Feminist Majority owns Ms now.
Someone said they have a circulation of around 100K. How many of those are libraries? Basically, we’re subsidizing this rag because your local library no doubt has a copy. Maybe we could get libraries to consider there might be more deserving and relevant magazines about women.
I remember years ago, Ms. was running advertisements that were as sexist as could be. Then they actually came out with an issue that apologized for their
error in doing so.
I haven’t read Ms. in a long, long time. I don’t know if they returned to that glossy format with the ads or kept it cleaned up.
So, maybe they will see the error of their ways here and run an apology in a year or so.
But, then– who really cares? This cover is just insulting to feminists.
Why not have Warren on the cover too, as Obama’s feminist side-kick?
My email was just sent- and they deserve every single ‘f’ word thrown at them and more.
What was the biggest surprise for a guy embracing the historic moment when a woman could become president.
Women preventing this historic event from happening.
I put in a lot of energy to see Hillary or even Sarah win and am shocked and dismayed that women didn’t help their own cause.
Did I mention I’m shocked!!
I never liked part of the feminist movement because I could tell early on that it “accepted” as feminists only those women who made certain choices. I had so many aunts, cousins, friends who were strong women in their churches, communities, and families–who had already arranged “equal” marriages, but ones in which they truly were admired for their work at home and on the farms where most of them lived. I knew even then that they could not ever accept someone like Sarah Palin.
While I admire Hillary’s type of feminism as more suiting my style, I never trusted many in the feminist movement because of the way I knew they would react to many in my family and in my broad circle of friends.
I felt nauseated by a radial feminist instructor who seemed to feel that women were in some way a different species from men. We spend so many hours agonizing about why a wonderful medieval cleric who wrote “Piers Plowman” decided to paint this allegoical figure of one of the seven deadly sins as female and that one as male. It was a total waste of time that could have been spent on more important discussions about the poem.
I am truly not surprised by MS magazine’s choice for this issue. It’s been a vapid magazine for some time.
My major way to protest is the same as it has always been, not to give them the time of day.
But, as I posted in the earlier post, I will try to find a way to hide those issues when I see them in stores.
I’m glad I caught your post today. I’ve never bought Ms. Magazine. Now, based on your post and the comments in response, I swear I will buy 5 copies with Obama on the cover. There was no “blatant voter fraud”, if there was sexism, Obama did not engage in it and Palin was/is a joke.
I seriously doubt you’ll actually put your money where your mouth is. Do you really have $20-30 to waste on a magazine you don’t give two craps about, just to try to piss off people you don’t even know?
Are you going to prove you bought the magazine by posting your receipt here? Doubt it. This is just an idle threat trying to shut us up. Not gonna work. Sorry.
Wow, you’re right! Except 5 issues is more than $30! No way I’m buying even one of these. Continue with your boycott. (You’re still wrong about Obama though)
You know you’re an Obot when…You piss away $175 just to prove a point to people who couldn’t give a shit.
LOL…good one! That thread is going to bring us hours of enjoyment.
I didn’t see one Obot post on it either. Gotcha!!
what’s the matter, did you get tired of looking for your teenie weenie? I guess now you can masturbate to that Ms Magazine cover. Sick little freak.
OBOTS and their Barky Sausage fests..unbelievable what straight men will do.
Pure Pork.
You are either lieig OBOT or you are seriously OUT OF TOUCH. Everyone knows that Hillary won and got kicked out of the game. Even my 90 year old dad figured that one out.
Man you are so dumb. Tell ya what, take a seat and shut up. Don’t say anything else ever again. You are clearly clueless.
Ouch, You challenge the Obama-love and suddenly the claws come out!
That’s okay, I understand that periodically when O-bots are feeling down, they launch attacks as a way of trying to boost their appeal.
Who does Ms. think she is, Lois Lane?
Wow. The No Child Left Behind Act failed your sorry ass, didn’t it, kiddo?
ding ding ding
Five copies?
You and the boys planning a circle jerk?
“I’ve never bought Ms. Magazine.”
Yes the sticker shock can be intimidating especially in this economy.
“I swear”
We truly believe you, you don’t have to swear.
“I will buy 5 copies”
You are obviously a man of means with deep convictions and a well developed sense for investment. Might I refer you to yesterday’s thread “What is an Obot?”. Caution there is a lot of carnage over there, you know, dead trolls all over the place.
I have a sticker on my computer that says,
“This machine kills NoQuarterBots.”
Hillarse:
It would only be an appropriate cover if they they had a picture of That One and his Man boobs! Now that would sell like hot cakes:-)
Why stop at five copies, surely you can buy at least more than that to help a sister magazine out.
Stop your lovefest!
Is MS. going to be printing articles of the same calibre as that cover?
Will there be:
“Walking 7 steps behind your man… hey girls it’s empowering!”
Ms. Magazine Blocks Ad on Israeli Women
January 10, 2008 — Ms. Magazine has long been in the forefront of the fight for equal rights and equal opportunities for women. Apparently that is not the case if the women happen to be Israeli.
The magazine has turned down an AJCongress advertisement that did nothing more controversial than call attention to the fact that women currently occupy three of the most significant positions of power in Israeli public life. The proposed ad (The Ad Ms. Didn’t Want You To See) included a text that merely said, “This is Israel,” under photographs of President of the Supreme Court Dorit Beinish, Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni and Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik.
“What other conclusion can we reach,” asked Richard Gordon, President of AJCongress, “except that the publishers − and if the publishers are right, a significant number of Ms. Magazine readers − are so hostile to Israel that they do not even want to see an ad that says something positive about Israel?”
When Director of AJCongress’ Commission for Women’s Empowerment Harriet Kurlander tried to place the ad, she was told that publishing the ad “will set off a firestorm” and that “there are very strong opinions” on the subject − the subject presumably being whether or not one can say anything positive about Israel. Ms. Magazine publisher Eleanor Smeal failed to respond to a signed-for certified letter with a copy of the ad as well as numerous calls by Mr. Gordon over a period of weeks.
A Ms. Magazine representative, Susie Gilligan, whom the Ms. Magazine masthead lists under the publisher’s office, told Ms. Kurlander that the magazine “would love to have an ad from you on women’s empowerment, or reproductive freedom, but not on this.” Ms. Gilligan failed to elaborate what “this” is.
“The only conclusion that one can reach from this behavior is that Ms. Magazine feels that an ad highlighting the accomplishments of three incredibly talented and dedicated women would offend their readership. Since there is nothing about the ad itself that is offensive, it is obviously the nationality of the women pictured that the management of Ms. fears their readership would find objectionable. For a publication that holds itself out to be in the forefront of the Women’s Movement, this is nothing short of disgusting and despicable,” stated Mr. Gordon.
Ms. Magazine has a long record of publishing advertisements rallying readers to support reproductive choice; opposing the Religious Right; highlighting the fragility of the pro-Roe v. Wade majority on the Supreme Court; charging that “Pat Robertson and his Religious Right cohorts don’t like individual freedom;” announcing support for the “struggle for freedom and human rights;” opposing the Bush administration’s campaign to fill federal courts with judges who “will reverse decades of progress on reproductive rights and privacy, civil rights, religious liberty, environmental protection and so much more;” as well as accusing the Bush administration of being “bent on rewarding big corporations and the rich, turning back the clock on women’s rights and civil rights, and promoting a U.S. empire abroad.”
“This flagship publication of the American women’s empowerment movement publishes ads that are controversial in the general culture but not so among its readership,” Ms. Kurlander said. “Obviously, Ms. believes our ad would enflame a significant portion of their readers.”
Mr. Gordon added, “What really amazes me is that just recently, in their Winter 2007 issue, Ms. ran a cover story with a picture of Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi with the heading in big letters: “This is What a Speaker Looks Like.” While Ms. has every reason to be proud of Speaker Pelosi and her accomplishments, as are we, the only discernable difference between Speaker Pelosi and Speaker Itzik apparently is that Speaker Pelosi is not Israeli.”
Mr. Gordon noted that while Israel was apparently too hot to handle, Ms. Magazine did not extend that taboo to Arab and Moslem women. “What is even more amazing is that, while refusing to publish a simple ad praising three very notable women, women who embody the ideal that Ms. Magazine seemingly espouses, Ms. has run a cover article in the Fall 2003 issue on Queen Noor of Jordan, has featured a number of articles on Muslim women, and even ran an article in the Winter 2004 issue entitled, ‘Images of Palestine,’ which discussed the Ramallah Film Festival and gave sympathetic reviews to films concerning ‘the liberation of South Lebanon’ from Israel as well as numerous films which portrayed terrorism as legitimate ‘revolutionary’ activity against Israel and miscast Israel’s activities to counter terrorism as ‘oppressive.’”
“Clearly Ms. has changed a great deal from the days when AJCongress members and leaders of the AJCongress’ Commission for Women’s Equality − including Betty Friedan, Bella Abzug and Ms. co-founder Letty Pogrebin − were at the forefront of the Women’s Movement that led to the creation of Ms. Magazine.”
AJCongress President Gordon concluded, “Ms. has the right to turn down our ad. But in exercising that right, it has spoken loudly about itself and its readership, and their lingering hostility to Israel.”
How ridiculous. Even if you don’t agree with Israeli policy, you can still honor the women in their government.
The left has truly been taken over by hostile group-think.
hyposcrite bitches is what they are. they can eat shit and die for all I care.
Fight the good fight OIAF.
Wow.
Israel is the best place to be female in the Middle East and Ms has a problem with it? Israelis actually elect women to positions of leadership and allow them in the army with more integration and support than our female troops enjoy.
I guess Israelis arent the “right women”. The list of “wrong women” at Ms. grows to old testament size.
Something is seriously wrong here.
Barf.
The point is…Steinem and her wandering band of biddies only believe CERTAIN women deserve their label of “feminist.” And it’s the women THEY choose. Not cool at all, and why she needs to get lost. Sooner than later, so we can build a REAL women’s movement for ALL women.
I think you should lead it. You got the passion. Tell us what we need to do.
I agree there are different kinds of feminists, and I don’t fit with some of them for sure, especially the male-bashing kind, but I totally think this cover picture of the big zero is inappropriate. In order to be a feminist, do you have to have bad marriages, be cruel to men and be as unprincipled and Machiavellian as they come? I find it amazing that a woman with five children governing a state and even bringing her children to work with her got blasted as being a bad example to women.
Does anyone know what the article is actually about? I tried looking it up on their website, but it might be too new or since it’s an inaugural collector’s edition only in the print edition. I’m curious to see if we get the Time magazine “Obama Rewrote the Book” treatment.
I find it amazing that a woman with five children governing a state and even bringing her children to work with her got blasted as being a bad example to women.
Yes, all this made her a disgrace. And every attribute of evangelical churches was assigned to her personally. The equivalent would have been to accuse Biden of being for burning witches and practicing exorcisms since he’s Catholic… I think, but you get my point.
I think that Ms’s Oink Meter must have been broken when they decided on this issue or The Big O had his lipstick done so cunningly that they couldn’t tell that he was a pig.
LMAO, that’s a good one
I was thinking I’d buy the magazine, write FRAUD across the picture and put it back on the rack.
Any one up for a class action suit against MS?
Citizen complaints of making us suffer backlash. Pay up MS for the suffering you are bringing on and the backlash.
To all the women who worked so hard to see the first woman president just look at the cover of this mag and the people that did this and that is why she never made it. Women who are not true feminists do not stick together. We will never see a woman president because of women like this. It’s a shame that people see this man as some sort of hero are they brain dead he is a man just like the rest of them. Is it because he is AA. That is a poor excuse to put someone in the WH with NO experience what so ever. When things get worse who will these people blame?
Let’s keep the facts straight. HE”S A MULATTO with less than 6% AA.I do hope our Hillary doesn’t see this rag. It’s an abomination to her being a true feminist. Hillary is what a feminist looks like. And Palin too…and all of us who worked so hard to pass ERA only to have the exclusive male clubs like Knights of Columbus etc. vote it down.
There is nothing historical about this. Another dude gets elected to the old boys network. DOH!
AA = African American 6%
AA = Affirmative Action 100%
He’s no action hero;
He’s an affirmative action zero.
Pahahahaha@affirmative action zero
that’s funnnnnnnny because it’s playing out right in front of us and in REAL time!
ok maybe not FUNNY
sick joke
I mean SELECTED.. f’n crook he is. Threw away Hill’s votes and various and sundried things to beat the system. I cant stand Obarfy. He makes me sick.
Did Action!
To add insult to injury, the cover stole the very expression, word for word, of what one legit feminist leader said in a public speech about Governor Sarah Palin; “this is what a feminist looks like”.
Next thing Ms will try to tell us that Jayz and rap music glorify women and put them on a pedestal.
Obama is not a feminist.
HE HATES WOMEN.
HE HAS SERIOUS PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES CONCERNING WOMEN.
Ms Magazine must pay for this. Attack the advertisers.
Don’t boycott them girlcott them.
That’s right, I was there at that rally when that was said about Palin.
It was Shelley Mandel from the LA chapter of NOW and I was there too. It was an incredible moment and I burst into tears. I thought their hug was going to go on for an hour. And I thought maybe, just maybe, women would get it together and stop attacking Palin under the false moniker “feminist.” Oh well. God bless Shelley. She got smacked around BUT GOOD for what she did. And, of course NOW had to make it clear that Shelley’s endorsement of Palin did NOT reflect NOW’s stance.
Ms Mag is so scared of Sarah they are willing to use the most vile and blatant tactics imaginable to re-write the history what happened in this last election cycle. They have sold their souls to the Teleprompted Horned One.
Shelley Mandel, you go girl. You have more courage than the cowards at Ms Mag and Vanity unfair is not much worse. They have Tina Fey on their cover. Every time I buy groceries I want to poke my eyes out at the check out line.
The selected, sugar-coated, human-infomercial will stumble and his house of cards will all turn into jokers.
I don’t care how lamely they try to discredit Sarah Palin, she is a good spirit. No one, least of all a rag like Ms. can make her go away or diminish her worth. When people like Ms. do what they are doing, they are doing everyone a favor by showing their true colors. Is it not better to know who your enemy is?
People who are put on pedestals inevitably fall. And the higher the pedestal, the harder they fall. Folks all of this fawning and drooling has an upside. Obama will never live up to the expectations. He will be such a failure that Palin should get into the WH in the next several years easy.
I wasn’t there but that line really resonated. It no doubt got all the FemiNazi and code pinker’s panties in a bunch. Hence the cover of Ms.
Yeah, I am even more pissed now that I realize what that stupid azz MS magazine did. That line is a direct stab at Palin, which is so odd because the wing nuts and the Fraud are STILL so obsessed with her. It means she did her job LOL. I remember how absolutely spun out of control the Fraud was over Palin. Drooling actually. Sigh.
The rally was amazing. I don’t think people realized how much people loved her and how absolutely incredible she was in person. Sigh. What a different life we would have the next four years without voter fraud and stupidity.
Yes she got in his head big-time, got him off his lame game. That is what prompted the lipstick on pig comment. Risky move, talking in code like that, but the media smoothed it over. Obama went on Letterman to splain it all, what he ACTUALLY meant. The gap-tooth wonder bought it all with his forked tongue smile and the audience could do nothing but take it all in. Now that’s info-tainment.
Thanks for that Winston. It was a high placed woman from NOW (maybe the head of the L.A. chapter?)who said “this is what a feminist looks like” regarding Palin. That was a great moment.
I knew that sounded familiar, but didn’t place it.
Ms. Magazine:
Columnist Donna Brazile
http://www.msmagazine.com/contact.asp
OMJFC! (oh my jesus f’ng christ)
bloviating donna dumbo is in bed with the MS staff. We’ll we should have known this is the reason bloviating schizObama is tagged as a feminist instead of the woman hater he really is.
Girlcott Oprah too.
These freakizoid propagandist rags are doing damage control. It’s not working. Even the sheeple can see it.
Girlcott
Very clever!
I said it before and I’ll say it again: in order for women to gain equal representation in public service you first have to take away their right to vote.
What Irony.
That’s an old ploy; we can go back to the founding of the republic when only white male property owners had the franchise.
I wasn’t serious, OK?
PLEASE STOP BUYING ANYTHING WITH OPRAH ON IT….!
That would exclude a sizable fraction of the total magazine output in the western world. Let’s do it.
It’s a pity this rag wasn’t in print when the outhouse was the common conveyance of elimination and waste. Ms. would have actually served a meaningful purpose.
It could still serve a great purpose, but I’m not paying $35 to wipe my azz with the Fraud.
Tee Hee—very funny!
Better than
Sears and Roebuck Catalog?
Actually it’s sort of a quid pro quo…Fraudbama and his pals wipe THEIR azzes with the US Constitution…so, WTH.
LMAO!!
or B.O.
OBama made a huge mistake when he was photographed with his shirt off in Hawaii. I was shocked to see our next President with a very crude female upper body. Is it just me or does Obama has B cup breasts.
WHat boobs on a skinny guy. Keep your shirt on Obama. Embarassing!!!!!!!
On another note, whenever Oprah ratings drop she goes in depression. She will never again get the audience like she had before. Even Judge Judy has surpass Oprah in viewership.
Not only is he half-black and half-white but now he crosses the gender divide as well. The man has little boobies.
All the better for Larry Sinclair to chew on.
LOL!!!
The bots envy his hermaphroditism, apparently.
Is it just me or does Obama has B cup breasts.
LMFAO…Who knows with those two. MeChelle looks like a post-op tranny too. Good Lord. WTF is going be going down in the Lincoln Bedroom?
Great observation oiaf,
You might be an obot if you think Man Tits are cool.
Mossy…
Of all things in life that are kind of NOT cool…Ewwwww….MAN BOOBS. But I will say, they would make great targets on a dart board…where’s that half nakey pic of the Fraud?
Too hideous for publication. Yuck.
You can see the pic of shirtless Obama here:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/obama-shirtless?w=1
Or just Yahoo man boobs Obama and you will see many articles on it. Michelle Obam aneeds to stop sucking on them.
It’s too bad there isn’t a little bit of hair to de-emphasize the cleavage.
OH gross!! Just gross.
You made me look — damned it!
GROSS
Misogynistic pig is the definition of Feminism? I’m so pissed off at this cover that I’m beyond being nice with MS in my email…what bullshit! I started off with “Dear sweeties…”
That’s great!!!^^^^
I usually pick my fights carefully but I couldn’t let this one go by. Naming Obama as a champion for women is like saying Putin is a champion for democracy. Yeah, right. Sheesh!
My email to MS magrag included the question, “Whom are you trying to bamboozle”?
Agreed: The Obama man boobs are a real teaser of the gag reflex kind.
I LIKE the Confluence’s take on Obama:
Jackie and JFK = Camelot
Barky and MicHELLe = SCAMALOT
ROTFL — SCAMALOT.
Bingo!
Absolutely sickening. I’ve taken a couple months off reading political news because it made me so disgusted and I suddenly feel like I never left. Ms Magazine along with the Rachael Maddow’s of this country are fools. Plain and simple fools.
“It became clear to me during the primaries that the reason many women supported Obama wasn’t for his actual record or day-to-day work ethic. They worshiped him because they thought he was handsome - a black George Clooney representing a mythical hero that would save them from their dull, dreary lives. It becomes clear, then, that the women who put Obama on the cover of Ms. magazine in mythic, heroic splendor, have unwittingly played into their own brainwashed fantasies of the strong man who will come to save them.”
SPOT ON!!
Hillary or Bust–you totally rock!!! In addition to emailing, every time I see a Ms. magazine on a rack, I intend to casually pick it up, flip through it, and replace it upside down (or backwards–I’ll have to see which one looks more rebellious {snark}).
Thankfully they print so few I almost never see one.
He’s made antichoice statements too- saying having a mental breakdown isn’t a valid reason to be able to have an abortion, and that a woman isn’t competent to make the choice to have an abortion, that she should have to speak “with her pastor” (who I’m sure Obama only visualizes as a male) before she could have one.
Ms. magazine has turned into a joke. I’m so revolted by that cover, it’s the epitome of Obot worship that turned so many of my so called liberal feminist friends and relatives into mindless groupies of a misogynist man. It’s just unbelievable! It feels like we are living in the Stepford Wives world!
Guys, isn’t that a just a teeny bit simplistic to categorize all women who supported Obama as blind worshippers of a sexy Clooney-type? Most of the women I know who supported him had extremely intelligent, well thought out reasons for doing so that had nothing to do with his looks or charm. Most of the women I know who supported Hillary had extremely intelligent, well thought out reasons for doing so as well. It’s insulting to hear people say that all women who supported Hillary did so only because she was a woman, and it is also insulting to dismiss women who supported Obama in this way.
One other thing: I hate the fact that Obama doesn’t support gay marriage–but neither does Hillary. Maybe they both do in private, but publicly, they are both against it. They both support civil unions with all the rights and benefits of marriage, which is unfortunately the best we can hope for right now from any Democrat hoping for higher office.
I did not say “all women” who supported Obama - I said “many women.” Which is true. I’ve met enough starry-eyed female Obama supporters and this cover shows that in spades.
Hey, Maggie if you haven’t figured it out yet, That One is only a democrat by the mere D after his name. ]
He’s not a democrat in actions- his actions say he’s more like Bush or his idol, Reagan.
Here’s another Obot —
Defending her messiah.
I don’t necessarily agree, but it’s well said, and thanks for moving us off manboob talk.
When you know so little about someone who is about to become POTUS, small revealed details like manboobs become swollen out of all proportion.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but I would like to know: did MS Mag photoshop this pic, or did O actually put on the T-Shirt & pose for it? Yep, it feels really dumb to imagine that he would actually put on that T-Shirt, and yet . . .
If he did actually pose for the pic, I imagine it happened right after the woman from NOW made that statement in praise of Sarah Palin: “This is what a feminist looks like.” They could have been sitting on the pic since then . . . Anyone have any ideas?
Here I am, talking to myself again. These T-shirts are commercially available from the feminist.org store.
Okay, the cover of the Spring 2003 issue of Ms. Magazine shows 4 women, all wearing “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like” T-Shirts. The women are Ashley Judd, Whoopi Goldberg, Margaret Cho, and Camryn Manheim. What does this mean? Only that the T’s have been around for quite a while. I think my investigation here is over. My bet is that O did in fact pose for the pic, and that it was taken shortly after the Palin incident.
My apologies, you’re right. However, I think my point still stands. I met quite a few starry-eyed Hillary/Palin/McCain/you name it supporters during the course of the primary and the election, if by starry-eyed we are talking about people who clearly have no substantive reason to support their chosen candidate. But I didn’t extrapolate from that that most of Hillary’s supporters or McCain’s supporters must have only silly reasons for supporting their candidate.
It just seems like you guys are saying that women must support women at all times–but the second a woman expresses admiration for Obama, she doesn’t get any support any more. This magazine has always been a source of intelligent feminist thought–and now, because they think Obama is feminist (which a whole ton of other feminists also think)–its writers are suddenly stupid and blind?
Hillary and McCain supporters were not fainting and swooning in the aisles like female Obama supporters were - no, your point does not still stand. Sorry. Obama had an Elvis effect on many of his female supporters. I saw it first-hand.
Plenty of people also think Barack voted against the Iraq War Resolution because of the narrative that he created: one of misleading inference. Of course, it is utterly false. So if a lot of people think it, it is therefore true? Of course not.
Now Barack is a “feminist”? After condoning the savage misogynistic attacks on Clinton? The attacks came from the media, BO’s campaign and followers; and Barack himself engaged in condescending sexist language directed at Clinton.
Barack profited from sexism and misogyny, plain and simple. In the face of these truths one might say they are “stupid and blind”; I prefer bamboozled, hoodwinked, you know, the ol’ okey-doke!
Obots always say “you guys” –
May I also ask (and I don’t mean this in any snarky way–it can be difficult to tell how things come across over the internet): do you genuinely believe that any woman who didn’t support Palin is not a feminist? Personally, I could never have voted for McCain, no matter who he picked as VP. In addition to all of his horrendous policies, I hated that he made that horrific joke about Chelsea Clinton (I mean, yes, Hillary and Obama occasionally said some rude things about each other, but McCain’s comment was just astonishing in its cruelty and immaturity). But even without McCain, Palin was not someone I, as a feminist, could ever vote for–and obviously a huge number of other feminists felt the same way. It had nothing to do with class (unlike what she claimed): her policies were the complete opposite of Hillary’s and Obama’s, and while they are both very intelligent (whether or not you dislike Hillary or Obama, they are undeniably very smart people), she seemed ignorant and (in a way that recalled Bush) proud to be so–not unintelligent, but ignorant.
I know that the election is over and in some ways it is pointless to cover this ground again, but I just thought I’d ask since I noticed a lot of talk about Palin and feminism as I skimmed the comments.
Margaret, how do you feel about Caroline Kennedy for HRC’s Senate seat?
My guess is this was a deliberate slap in the face to “PUMA’s.” Since they gave the Feminist Groups alot of grief starting with the Primaries and haven’t stopped .
And I have no problem boycotting them since I haven’t bought one in years. Otherwise if I did I would have stopped last Sring like so many other things.
Feminist groups don’t support women in general or their issues otherwise things like this would not be going on in 2009.
“Feminist groups don’t support women in general or their issues otherwise things like this would not be going on in 2009.”
This is the truth. Women in general must learn how to stick together and support each other. This is why there is a good old boy network to help men along. Women just attack each other at every opportunity.
I think the problem is that some of us expected better of so called feminists, probably because we’ve been discussing this for decades, ad nauseum. This election was a rude awakening to the fact that not even “feminists” get it.
Maggie,
Why do you think Palin seemed ignorant and Obama and Hillary smart? I’m not a Palin devotee but I noticed the unfair and edited interviews to paint her as less intelligent.
Did you know that Obama thought there were 58 states? That, he thought there was a great lake in Oregan? His blunders were covered up, yet Palin was crucified.
Since you seem so Open Minded, let’s examine the media’s portrayal of Palin before we deem her less.
Stop the lovefest!
What is really weird is the stupiest blunder connected to her was actually a Saturday night joke.
Hillary or bust: a few people fainting or swooning (it certainly wasn’t a common occurrence based on what I saw and heard, and what everyone else saw and heard) does not mean that most of Obama’s female supporters were there because he drew them with his Elvis-powers. People got very emotional–and some even fainted–at JFK and RFK rallies as well. Charismatic, good-looking people who are also exciting speakers can have that affect, but that doesn’t mean that their supporters don’t have substantive reasons for their support. I saw some pretty emotional crowds at Hillary and McCain and especially Palin rallies. That doesn’t mean that their supporters were there just for the emotional buzz rather than for substantive reasons.
You clearly do not like Obama, and that’s fine, but your dislike seems to be skewing your perceptions of his supporters. I have seen that in some Obama supporters’ attitudes towards Hillary’s supporters and vice versa–it can be a really hard thing to avoid.
All the classic — What is an Obot lines!!
You are an example of the has beens.
Obots are sexist pigs.
Excuse me, Margaret, but most people who noted the “fainting, swooning” (all of them women) seem to agree that it was an Obama trick; they were part if the schtick, all of it programmed. It is naive to think that was real.
Except that BO’s supporters have never been able to say exactly why they support Him.
How about this latest comment on C-Span last week from Obama supporter Jeromy Skaihill (sp?) (I paraphrase): that the Left will no doubt be dissappointed with Obama on many issues, but that the important thing is to focus on the hope he inspires.
WTF!!! Is this not the height of rationalizing the Left’s support for Obama?!!
Obama doesn’t even call himself a feminist. Michelle also rejected the label. If you can’t even say the word “feminist” then you probably aren’t one.
In fact, the only good thing to come from this MS cover is that I bet Obama is really embarrassed by it. He probably thinks MS is implying he’s girly or something.
For the record, both Hillary and Sarah Palin had no problem calling themselves feminists.
Northwest rain:
If supporting Obama means that I believe he is the Messiah, then does the fact that you supported (presumably) Hillary mean that you believe that she is the Messiah, or that you are a Hillbot?
Of course not. For goodness’ sake, are we children? We can surely have political discussions without saying that anyone who disagrees with us is stupid or brain-washed.
Donna Brazile: Everyone misspeaks. Obama misspoke and said 57 states when he meant to say 47, for example, and about a few other things. Hillary misspoke and got the date wrong in terms of when Bill Clinton won the primary back in 1992–she probably meant to give the correct date and just momentarily forgot–and about a few other things. Hillary and Obama might sometimes misspeak, but I’m not going to dismiss them as unintelligent people because of that.
But Palin: I don’t think she’s stupid by any means. But in her interviews with Couric (and no, they were not edited to make her appear less intelligent–even she didn’t really try to claim that), she seemed to have little idea of what she was talking about, and her general attitude in her interviews and in the debate was to try to mask her lack of knowledge with folksiness. It scared me, actually–it felt like watching Bush win people over with folksiness.
I do believe that some people in the McCain camp are trying to unfairly paint Palin as an idiot. I don’t believe for a second that she doesn’t know that Africa is a continent, for example. But I don’t think she’s nearly as bright as Hillary or Obama.
I disagree with Sarah on many things, if Sarah would have been out campaigning the entire 2 yrs that Obama was and we know he made some real lame statements , goofs even now, I have no doubt she would have been far ahead of Obama in some ways.
He can not do anything without a teleprompter period.
He shows no real passion for anything period.
He doesn’t have any lasting policies, they change with the wind and day of the week.
Sarah had passion and very little time outside her state true, and she has time to acquire the rest of the knowledge.
Media coverage shows with out a doubt Obama has been protected since day 1 and still is by the Media.
Sarah didn’t go to big name Universities why is that such a big freakin deal to so many extreme lefties??
Do you not know how cold and uncaring the elitist MSM and Far left come across to everyday people???
The Dems ( voted for 40yrs ) haven’t accomplished anything in 2 years that help the middle class. What is it about the Middle class the makes the Far left Elitist not care about them? And you could talk until you are blue in your face and not convince me I am wrong because their words and actions show it.
I follow CSPAN daily, I email , Fax , call politely to discuss with my Reps, and Senators to no avail.
And the comments hear from Lefties in support of Obama and rudely putting Sarah Palin down just convince me more.
And btw I am not a Palin supporter, I disagree with her . But as a person I respect her far more than I cam ever respect Obama or his wife. And that’ a given.
I second that ILBlue!
Stop the hate or lovefest:-)
trixta: My reaction to Caroline Kennedy for HRC’s seat was not positive: there is something extremely distasteful in the idea that she could get appointed to that seat based solely on the fact that she is a Kennedy. It has been pointed out that plenty of people on both sides of the aisle are in the House or the Senate because of their relatives, but the difference is that they ran and were elected. Some people have been comparing Caroline to Hillary–but Hillary not only had a much more visible political record, but she ran, debated, campaigned, and was elected–not appointed. It’s not that I don’t think Caroline Kennedy could be a good senator–she very well could be. But I don’t like the thought of her getting the seat this way. If she wants to run in 2010, fine, good for her. If she does get it, it’s not the end of the world, but I think that someone with clearer qualifications should get the job this time around.
Who cares?
Glad to hear it, Margaret, but Palin — an elected sitting Gov– was crucified by the Obama campaign and his supporters for being “dumb” and “unqualified.” Her family was also visciously attacked. Caroline, on the other hand, is being touted as the entitled princess — just ask Maureen Dowd.
At the beginning of the primaries many of us had a wait-and-see attitude about all the candidates, but once the Obama supporters spewed their vitriol at HRC and her supporters there was no turning back. This strategy of intolerance by the Obama camp has divided the Left for good. The Obamatan demand for ideological conformity is really beyond the pale.
Also, why are you here at NQ, if I may ask? There are so many sites who bow to the ONE and tout your point of view.
a question for Northwest rain:

Obama is bright? GMAB!
Maggie,
The fact that you believe Obama was saying 47 states is unbelievable. He said we’ve been in 57 states and ONE TO GO. The media explained it away by saying he was tired.
Wake up! The point was that he was not crucified for it. She, nor, Clinton were treated with the kid gloves Obama was.
Why didn’t Palin get the benefit of the doubt? She is a sitting Governor with actual accomplishments but was belittled.
You’re the one in your post who said she seemed ignorant and (in a way that recalled Bush) proud to be so–not unintelligent, but ignorant.
Why, because of the Couric interview?
Have you actually listened to Obama when he speaks of the cuff and not with a teleprompter?
Stop the lovefest!
Why is this post not posting?

Sorry everyone, I don’t know why my computer or this site is suddenly posting everything twice.
If you think Obama didn’t propose and exploit the Messiah or Savior image, than you’ve definitely been living in a parallel universe. Before his misogyny and sexism, this is what most turned me off to Obama. HRC never used such messianic discourse — nor would her supporters ever have tolerated it!
Remember these words from Obama?
And how about:
“… a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany … and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama” - (Barack Obama Lebanon, New Hampshire.
January 7, 2008.)
FYI, Margaret, you should read the open thread “What’s an Obot?” (if it is still available).
I’ve gotta go now. Bye.
Trixta: I did read it. The gist of it seemed to be that if you support Obama, you are an idiot and an Obot and you must believe that he is God Himself.
I don’t think that Obama is perfect, I don’t agree with everything he does and believes, I don’t salivate at his approach. I do admire and support him. I admired Hillary, and I would have voted for her had she won. My decision to support him doesn’t deserve your disdain any more than your decision to support Hillary deserves mine. Making lists that insult Obama supporters as universally stupid is not mature. I could make a list (I’m sure one has been made) talking about how to recognize Hillbots, #1 being that they spend a large portion of their time talking about how much they hate Obama. But that is not mature, and plus I know too many intelligent people who supported Hillary to ever believe that they are, as a group, immature and illogical.
Really, I don’t get it. You guys seem to hate Obama with the kind of blind passion that people used to feel (and some still do feel) for the Clintons. Debating with you guys is like trying to debate with the people who still believe that the Clintons had Vince Foster killed. Their hatred is just too intense to be moved by logic.
Trixta: I did read it. The gist of it seemed to be that if you support Obama, you are an idiot and an Obot and you must believe that he is God Himself.
I don’t think that Obama is perfect, I don’t agree with everything he does and believes, I don’t salivate at his approach, I don’t get angry when people insult him or just disagree with him.

FUCK YOU, MsMagazine
[...] a link to a great article and action alert for anyone who has a mother, sister, girlfriend, wife, daughter and/or female friend they care [...]
Just sent my e-mail, told them I will never buy their magazine again.
What an insult to women. Thank you for posting this.
NOW has groups on Facebook that are complaining about the media bias and misogyny facing Caroline Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi! Ha! Whenever I pass an Obama cover on a magazine rack, I just turn the cover the other way. Maybe if we all do that with Ms. they will have lots of left-over issues to save for posterity.
Hillary Clinton should have been on the cover of the magazine even though “she lost” the primary. This is absolutely ridiculous. To pass over what Hillary Clinton has accomplished not only in this election but also in her career and for the progress of women throughout the world is mind boggling. We have to be subjected to the faux superman theme is mind boggling.
Thank you for the email addresses. I just sent them the following message:
I am writing to protest your actions in support of Obama and against women. I am a person who left the Democratic Party this year after the blatant anti-woman actions I witnesses and experienced personally by Obama supporters. I also am a person who actually has lived her feminism by suing a leading university over gender and age discrimination. That action cost me my career and my peace of mind. But, for me it wasn’t enough to just talk equal rights. I believe one has to take action on behalf of all women in order to advance the cause even some of us. And then there is Sarah Palin. I don’t agree with anti-abortion views, but I can respect another woman for her honesty, integrity and devotion to public service even if she doesn’t agree with me. The attacks of her were as sexist and hurtful to all women, as anything I have witnessed in my entire life. You actually have set back women by your actions, since it is your actions in support of Obama and misogyny that have undermined the credibility and accomplishments of mature, female public servants, like Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton. And worst of all, you–personally–appear to still be in need of approval and validation by men. Where’s your outrage at the Dems’ appointment of Kaine as the party leader? (It looks like only Republican women stir you up.) You have let women down and I am deeply disappointed in your lack of incite, your lack of character and your betrayal of women and feminism…..It certainly looks as though you have sold your souls to be invited to join the boys’ team….

Another piece of evidence proving the shallow thinking of today’s “femeinists”. Times have really changed the movement from cutting edge too slimmy pit.
Actually have the first publication of MS from the seventies when I thought it was a true breakthrough. Ah, the innocence of youth. ‘Anyone need it to wrap up their fish scraps?
