What feminist looks like this?

Ms Bullshit

Editor’s Note:

Stay tuned for more to come on this from our writers.

This gross insult will get the FULL “No Quarter” treatment. That means you, Ms. magazine, and you, Barack Obama, who exploited sexism and misogyny to gain male voters, and continue with your selection of sexist males for prominent roles, including in your inauguration ceremony.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

NewHampster:

Yep. That is the cover of Ms. Magazine.

Thanks to Partizane friend Angrydem for the find over at Heidi Li’s.

I am now convinced that we are in fact in the Zone:

Zone

That image will be mounted on the wall of my office because it so completely represents the “1984″ nature of the campaign.

SwampSpirit already did some editing work on the cover. See it here

Did you see who works for Ms. Magazine:

Columnist Donna Brazile
Consulting Editor Gloria Steinem

When I first saw this, I thought it might be a photoshopped joke, like the sexy Vogue cover featuring Sarah Palin. And so I went to the Ms. Magazine website, and, folks, it’s no joke. In fact, for $35 you can get a poster of this atrocity along with a subscription.

Comment by barry bums a ciggie | 2009-01-10 13:46:20

F*ck, I thought so too. What a piece of shit he is. I am even more outraged and insulted as a female, to see this piece of garbage being tied to my cause. How quickly we forget: hold on a minute Sweetie, how about a kiss for a vote, her claws come out, brushing off of the shoulder and flipping the bird, lipstick on a pig…

yup, that’s what neo-feminism looks like alright. Women are sometimes our own worst enemy.

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2009-01-10 14:29:25

Seriously…maybe for the MS next month’s issue they can use Fraudbama “scratching his face.” Or put a Lipstick Pig on the front. This stuff makes me embarrassed to be a woman.

Comment by andrew191 | 2009-01-10 18:27:33

Perhaps MS is simply catering to the needs of their anorexic readers. I certainly wanted to barf when I saw the picture.

What’s wrong with MS? They have lost it.

Its going to be FOUR very LOOOONG years.

Comment by Kal | 2009-01-10 11:36:12

Well, this caps it for me — the weird lefty feminism that produced this joke is not the feminism that is going to ever be able to do anything about the virtually permanent subordinate status of women in the US.

I think we will find that this new ‘feminism’ puts men front and center, and, for example, when revising the earned income tax credit, will be structured to make sure that men’s ’standard’ employment is promoted and that if there is a conflict between whether the male in a household gets to go to work with the support of the EITC or the female, it will be the one who can expect to earn the most and earn most like white middle-class males earn. All being done, of course, in the name of promoting racial equality (of racialized men) over sex equality (particularly of non-racialized women).

Welcome back to the 1920s-1950s, everyone: ‘A standard male wage for every household.’

Comment by mountainaires | 2009-01-10 11:43:58

Ms Magazine has morphed into Ms-ogenist Magazine!

It’s utterly bizarre. Women are treated with such contempt in this country, forced to confine themselves to limitations from all sides–don’t be too smart; don’t be too aggressive; don’t be too pretty; don’t be too ambitious; don’t be, don’t be, don’t be; don’t be this; don’t be that.

Now, it’s apparently, “don’t be a woman,” because a “feminist” is a black man named Barack Obama who’s never done anything but insult women.

;o} bwahahahahahhahaha……….

Comment by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy | 2009-01-10 13:03:33

Oh, nice name - I think that’s EXACTLY into what they have morphed.

And if HE is the definition of a feminist, I reckon I must be something else. Let me rephrase - if Obama is considered to be a feminist, I am most DEFINITELY something else.

Thanks for the piece, NH - disturbing as it is.

I’m going to join Sonic Ninja Kitty in the blech, cough, choke, spew now…

Comment by OBAMA IS A FRAUD | 2009-01-10 14:32:30

Absolutely! What that cover says it “This is what Ms-ogynist Magazine looks like”. As in “We choose to hide under superman’s shirt, and nominate the man who used sexism as a Democratic campaign tactic as the hero who’s come to save us all. “Help, us, Mr. Man!”

Progressive men can certainly be feminists, but Barack Obama? pfft…

Comment by democrat | 2009-01-10 12:01:34

The first thing Obama will sign is the Lily Ledbetter Act for equal pay for women. But in your work, that’s not the act of a feminist. You folks are way out of touch, that’s for sure.

Comment by candymarl | 2009-01-10 12:19:10

Has he actually signed it yet? Or will he do a FISA?

Comment by The Robot | 2009-01-10 12:21:02

How can you be sure? FISA anyone?

Comment by candymarl | 2009-01-10 12:21:31

Oh yeah, and the signing of one act does not a life long feminist make. Like, oh, Hillary Clinton.

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2009-01-10 14:35:43

Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin made those steps while the Democratic left did its imitation of Little Rock.

Comment by HC | 2009-01-10 12:27:04

I can just about guarantee that The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act wont be the first thing Oblahblah signs. I am still waiting for my FISA filibuster, which I was promised by His Eminence ages ago. But I digress.

Ledbetter is not the litums test for “feminism”.

Ledbetter is one of those reactive pieces of legislation that congress passes (or doesnt pass) to make itself feel better and/or to corral certain voters - usually those voters that arent good at critical thinking.

The planet earth will still be rife with sexism with or without Ledbetter. And your candidate Mr. Obama did plenty to continue the trend.

Comment by Lizzy | 2009-01-10 17:36:56

Still eleven days before he can sign anything. Personally I think he’l do a FISA, if he is still Pres. after the inauguration date.

Comment by beebop | 2009-01-10 13:11:30

Will he start by upping what he pays his own female staffers? That would be a start! Maybe he could do that before he signs the never to be signed document as an act of good faith? Really. Just blow me.

Comment by Sonic Ninja Kitty | 2009-01-10 13:23:15

Ledbetter is a bill concerning statute of limitations.

If you would like to really understand what we are talking about here, I would recommend the excellent blog thereclusiveleftist.com She has a series of articles entitled “If you vote for Obama, this is what you’re voting for”. They go from reminders #1 to 14, and comprehensively document everything we are alluding to here. Take a look at reminders #13 and 14 and you will need go no further.

That’s a great resource Sonic.

1. Exploited 15 years of misogynistic wingnut smears against Hillary throughout his campaign;

Yes, Barack most certainly did - I recall the beginnings of his campaign when Barack did all he could to profit from the right-wing attacks on Hillary. It was a stab in the back to all Democrats. and I knew at that time this truly was a “new” kind of candidate.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-01-10 13:36:46

The first thing Obama will sign is the Lily Ledbetter Act for equal pay for women

With Obama, everything has always been in the future tense. His accomplishments? Nothing but a bunch of vague promises in speeches. Indeed, without the future tense, the concept of Hope has no power. Hope is believing that a better future will come to pass. He asks us to believe this as an article of faith, because we certainly can’t extrapolate a trend based upon his past actions, which would be the way rational people would try to predict the future.

We’ll see. But as of now, he sure hasn’t earned any part of that Superman suit. He’s a phony, a Clark Kent who brags about being Superman, but is really only a guy named Clark Kent who likes to strut around like a peacock and make everyone ooo and ahhh.

Comment by rw | 2009-01-10 15:01:44

“who likes to strut around like a peacock and make everyone ooo and ahhh.”

Comment by MrMike | 2009-01-10 14:24:38

Strange, I broke out in hysterical laughing while simultaneously feeling like I would puke when I saw this Ms cover. I think it is clear that thinking women of all political shades need some new media, the corporate media and the feminist media are not going to fill the gap and address our “niche” group of 52% of the population so I think it is the well written even funny PUMA blogs that are taking up the market for thinking womens eyes. I can only hope that when the advertisers finally figure it out they will be held to some sort of standard so we don’t ever have to tolerate the unwatchable tit and ass advertising found in Vogue, and Oxygen. I mean would it be to much to test ads on actual groups of women so that ads that make women shut the magazine or change the channel are eliminated regardless of what the men who make them think?

Oh. My. God. I was sure this was a brilliant piece of irony put together by NQ, and I found it quite funny. Then I saw that no, this is not a fake. Oh. My. God.

So, now ‘feminism’ means ‘woman-hating’, is that the appropriation being attempted here? Ok, I’m now speechless, aside from curse words, so I’ll stop now.

Comment by Diana L. C. | 2009-01-10 13:12:02

Darn…. in grocery stores and books stores I’ve had to become like those old women who used to go around hiding books that might be too suggestive. I’ve actually found myself unable to stop my latest compulsion. I make sure that I go back when no one else is in the aisle so I can turn face down or backward all the books by O or in any way flattering to O.

The magazines are usually right at the checkout line. It will be hard to do this secretively. I will have to hire a shopper so I don’t get sick looking at him or get in trouble for this new compulsion.

Comment by wodiej | 2009-01-10 14:01:45

Comment by rolling thunder | 2009-01-10 14:59:06

Argh…Ms is sickening.

NOW is now WAS (Women’s Acquiescence Society). It’s been a horrible year for feminism, and this cover of Ms. is more than salt in the wound: it’s acid in the face.

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2009-01-10 15:01:05

I was trying to find circulation numbers for Ms, but kept finding articles from the 70s, which supports renaming NOW to WAS.

Ms. has another problem: they refused to run an ad showing the female face of Israeli politics. Between that storm and this one, Ms is either seeking to pick up readership or place itself into the dumpster with other Obama sellouts.

Ledbetter act won’t change anything when sexism is accepted. Equal pay for equal work-what do you think corporations primarily run by males will do? See a mass effort to reword job descriptions and change titles so they can justify not giviing equal pay to women. When these women start believing they are equal and live their lives accordingly, only then it will change.

Ms. Mag, circulation 100k…comfort in knowing this.

Was at Whole Foods getting my organic baby Romaine and saw at the check out, out of maybe eight stands, 3 with the face of the azzwipe on it. One, that insulting MS Mag, the other Atlantic Monthly with the title “Is White America Over?” And the third some azzwipe rag about “Yes you can…” done in black and white with head azzwipe in shades pointing at the camera looking oh soooo cool with that dumbass smirk on his azzwipe face.

That’s it for me, I’m going to another health food shop for my organics.
