New Yorkers: “Do. Not. Want. Caroline”.

imagesdonotwant[Susan's Note: Uppity Woman wrote this story, not I.]

I’m not sure what part of Do. Not. Want. people in the NY Times and the Governor’s mansion do not understand. New Yorkers do not like this Kennedy trick one bit.

Here’s the message:

New York State voters have cooled on Caroline Kennedy and more voters now prefer State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo 31 - 24 percentfor Hillary Clinton’s U.S. Senate seat, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney gets 6 percent, with 5 percent for U.S. Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, 2 percent for U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, 18 percent for someone else and 14 percent undecided.

Here’s the rest of the message:

New York State voters say 48 - 37 percent that Kennedy is not qualified to be a U.S. Senator and 40 - 37 percent that she would not be a good Senator. Democrats say 47 - 35 percent that she is qualified, while Republicans say 65 - 24 percent that she is not qualified. Independent voters say 51 - 34 percent that she is not qualified.

Still, voters say 38 - 33 percent that Gov. David Paterson will appoint Ms. Kennedy to the U.S. Senate.

In other words, New Yorkers are not in a good mood about this whole skanky deal and they aren’t letting up about it either. They know they are being railroaded and Teddy Kennedy’s tantrums mean nothing to them. New York is not Massachusetts. Dave, tell Teddy nobody in New York cares that he wants his name embedded in politics forever. They do not care to be bamboozled. This is starting to smell like Pay To Play and it’s not even being done in secret.

Upstate New Yorkers are particularly angered. Of course that’s probably the place Caroline will “volunteer” to dump all those terrorism suspects when Obama closes down that other place. She’ll call it “job creation” for prisons. Don’t think New Yorkers haven’t thought of that either. They know the disdain with which she treated them and they know that they will never see her again if she forces herself into the Senator’s chair.

Caroline didn’t even know there was a place above Manhattan until she decided she would scrap her useless resume and become New York’s junior Senator because she has a certain last name. But the only people who are buying into this insult are politicians who got phone calls and Democrats who would vote for anything with a (D) after its name.

Cuomo leads Kennedy 31 - 20 percent among upstate voters and 36 - 22 percent in the suburbs, while Kennedy gets 31 percent of New York City voters to Cuomo’s 29 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Men back Cuomo 32 - 23 percent while women back him 31 - 25 percent.

This is not good, Dave. She’s only up by two points in New York City, for goodness sakes. What do you need, a telephone poll on your head to get it?

6844 people were polled, Dave. So it’s pretty safe to say Quinnipiac has it right.

ap_caroline_080131_sshYou know damned well that the Kennedys can pour millions into her election and yours, Barack Obama can go to Upstate New York, part the Mohawk River and pass out fishes — and they still won’t forget what’s going on here right now. You know that Upstate New York Democrats have nooooooo problem voting Republican. Monarchies make them itch.

Worse yet, you are setting the Republicans up for running that morally bankrupt exploitative thief Rudy Giuliani against her. Or you.

Is this what you really want?

Caroline. Caroline. Caroline. Please stop embarrassing yourself and pissing New York off. New York has a lot of work to do. And Teddy, not that you won’t burn in hell anyways (See “Mary Jo”), but you should have a special room there for ruining Caroline’s image after all these years.

************************************************************

UPDATE: Due to accusation of not supporting “women” for positions. Here is my response to that:

Politics is run exactly like Corporate America. They put a token female in a slot now and then so that they can show everybody that she can’t do the job. They downplay competent women so that they won’t be embarrassed by their skill. Falling for this is the very worst thing you can do.

Caroline is holding HERSELF to a different standard. She is behaving above everybody else because her name is Kennedy. She should have known better, although I think this is all Teddy’s doing, that shit. Caroline KNOWs she is not qualified and instead of providing a little humility to the mix, she showed up in upper New York with a stick in her butt. How exactly does this attitude help promote women? She is not qualified and putting an unqualified attitude-riddled woman in this slot does NOT help women.

The fact is, there are several VERY good women in NY who are qualified for this slot. They are getting railroaded by a Monarchy. Now THAT makes me angry. When we support this kind of behavior, we set women back even further.

Furthermore, NY is in a financial shambles, businesses drive right by, and this only serves to make people more angry. This isn’t about a woman, this is about a Monarch trying to shove his last name down the throats of a state that is in dire need of somebody who can replace a hardworking, roll- up- your- sleeves policy wonk named Hillary Clinton. Caroline Kennedy is nothing more than a token woman. And if I have learned one thing in Corporate America it’s that token women ruin it for everyone else.

And finally, the very competent Maloney would have one damned good shot at this if the Monarchy weren’t scewing HER. Ditto for Gillibrand. If you want to be angry, be angry about that. It’s the same old tune all over again.

Here is what women are losing thanks to Ted Kennedy:

I. Am. A. New.Yorker.
I do not want Caroline.
I was upset when I heard she was throwing her weight around to get the position.
It is not fair. Caroline has done nothing for the state of New York as a political leader nor an activist. She’s a very rich woman from a rich family who is using her name (she is a Schlossberg too, but she dropped her married name) to get a position that she’s done nothing to earn.

Only the uber-rich liberals and the NY Times was trying to push Caroline and though New Yorkers (both upstate and downstate) would go for it.

We are much MUCH smarter than that. And there are politicians who have done more for the good people of NY than any Kennedy. As our founding fathers said, the U.S. has no royalty and the Kennedys are not our “royal” family. She doesn’t inherit this office. She didn’t earn it. Enough is enough.

The only thing better than watching Obots cry about the “misogyny” over Caroline Kennedy is watching them whine when Bobby Rush played the race card on them during the Burris bruhaha.

Comment by elliewyatt | 2009-01-16 15:11:30

I recently read an article by a CK supporter, who referred to her NINE times as “Attorney Kennedy”.

As far as I can find, she has NEVER practiced as an attorney. She does have a law degree, but it’s just so much more costume jewelry that she keeps in a box on her dresser.

Comment by beebop | 2009-01-16 16:20:41

Not only that she just renewe her license to practice law which she had allowed to lapse … kind of like she voted … :)

Comment by DanNY | 2009-01-16 15:24:55

Well they can just play the race card and everything will majically turn around for Shlosberg Kennedy. Oh - I mean dear sweet little pony riding Caroline.

Democrats are in big ass trouble - word on the street is that every time the Black Caucus wants something from here on out - and if they don’t get it at first request, they will play the most powerful card in the deck ensureing they get everything they want.

Word is not even Obama knew how powerful the race card was until he used it against Hillary. Now Bobby Rush has demostrated how the Black Caucus plans to get their own way each and everytime America balks.

There will be now baulking people!

Maybe someone should suggest to Caroline Kennedy to give some of her money to some families or individuals who are facing foreclosure or who are among the working poor who need health insurance for their families.

She doesn’t have to do a “Mother Theresa” but let’s say she gave away half of her $100,000,000 fortune. She still would be left with plenty for herself and her heirs. Maybe she could even influence some of her wealthy family members, friends, and associates to join her in this endeavor. Her legacy and the “Kennedy” name would be revered. As it stands now, she is just another “spoiled little rich girl” without much to recommend her for the office she seeks.

Comment by betty | 2009-01-16 15:43:07

“They” tried to ram Tammy Duckworth into office - twice now (I can’t help but wonder who she is connected to). The managed to ram Obama, they are at the height of their power - who ever “they” are.

“They” didn’t win in Illinois, if New Yorkers can send Caroline Kennedy packing that will give us two data points after the peak and the beginning of a downward slope - maybe we can return to choosing our own leaders and begin to govern ourselves again.

Comment by Steve_in_KC | 2009-01-16 15:45:13

Tokenism sucks, no matter what kind. When the powers that be, corporate or government, have a quota to fill, they are only trying to get the pressure off their backs. So they pick someone they know will play ball with them and plop them into a cozy position, and then they can point and say, “See? We are integrated! We are men and women of all races, working together.” But let one of those tokens try to speak up and actually make a difference, and the door slams shut.

Remember when meeting quotas on TV resulted in a bunch of barely talented black women getting plum roles? Like Law & Order, for example. That satisfied two quotas at once!

Heckuva deal!

But as Susan points out, putting one of their gal pals into a job for which she isn’t qualified puts the position out of reach for a qualified person. It fills a rare opening with a token, so they don’t have to deal with a person of real integrity and ambition who isn’t of the male/white demographic.

Caroline Kennedy, what have you done for anybody in public service to merit a plum job like this?

Oh, I guess I forgot… this is the era of putting unqualified people into high positions, based on American Idol standards rather than real qualifications. Just like The Big Zero.

Comment by sarainitaly | 2009-01-16 16:05:26

“Due to accusation of not supporting “women” for positions…”

Had Caroline supported HILLARY perhaps New Yorkers, and other women might be a little more willing to support her. (and if she proved she was actually qualified for the position, and willing to WORK for it)

HOWEVER considering Caroline chose to support a unqualified, inexperienced MAN over the Senator from New York, an experienced, qualified, brilliant WOMAN, she can kiss this woman’s support bye-bye.

Comment by DaddysDarlin | 2009-01-16 16:39:15

And this woman’s. It is just wrong to think that simply because Caroline is a woman we would support her.
Where was she when Hillary needed her support, where was Teddy?
They are nothing more than sell-outs, and they will never be anything more than that. I will never support a Kennedy again, after John and Bobby all the Kennedy’s with any morals ceased to exist.

Comment by Kal | 2009-01-16 19:30:12

And this woman’s. I was so offended at CK’s backing of BO, and at her turning her back on Hillary — people with such great wealth and social position should not try to abuse the system like that. I know, I know, she came by it honestly, but still — if her books hadn’t been such intellectual zeros, if her life hadn’t been neurotically lived in the ‘privacy’ she values so much for herself but not so much for others, if she had shown any leadership re poverty, gender, race, class, politics, anything at all, it could have been a different story. But I hold it quite strongly against her that she made a point of being ‘just a wife and a mother’ and making it sound like women who can afford to make such a choice really ought to make that choice.

Yes, there could have been some real focus on the real NY women politicians.

CK is immature and greedy. Typical for a senator but not something to brag about.

Comment by Ellen | 2009-01-17 03:28:59

I see - because Caroline had the nerve to support someone other than your Goddess Hillary that means she doesn’t deserve any respect or your vote? I don’t know that Caroline is qualified for the senate seat nor do i know if she would be a particularly good campainer (she isn’t too impressive so far). If you had some valid reasons for not supporting her it would be understandable; but to not support her just because she was for someone else is pretty weak and, well, just pretty much chilish sour grapes.
And if you are in Italy, its really none of your concern is it?

Comment by American Girl in Italy | 2009-01-17 08:14:08

Well, she doesn’t deserve a vote just for being a *woman*. If you weren’t so busy just trying to be rude, you would see that I was responding to the comments that Uppity made, that people were attacking her for not supporting a *woman*. If that were the most important thing, then why didn’t Caroline support Hillary?

I do not support Caroline because she is inexperienced and not qualified. Perhaps you need to put down the koolaid and go back and read my comment.

And, as an American, a voter, and a contributing writer at NQ, I do think it is of my concern.

Who the heck do you think you are to try and tell someone that they can not contribute to the discussion, or that it is none of their business?

Comment by Jay L | 2009-01-16 16:17:39

Uppity I could not agree with you more. As a NY’er I want a senator that will be respected or even feared in the US Senate. Hillary could give off that vibe. In my humble opinion Caroline can not.

I’m very happy to see women standing up against the Kennedys for the betrayal they showed during the primary. Ted Kennedy of all people, supporting Obama… was an insult to experience, hard work, decency and qualification for the highest office in the land. Let Coraline burn.

Caroline Kennedy is not qualified.

These statements are not contradictory.

Comment by DaddysDarlin | 2009-01-16 16:30:40

It has become embarrassing at this point for Caroline to even keep up with this sham.
It is very apparent that there has been far too much nepotism in our government.
How is it that mayors and governors and senators, can simply “pass” their jobs down the family line?
How is it that this can take place without so much as a vote by the people?
Little by little we are losing our rights, our votes no longer matter, we need to take our power to choose back, our votes need to count.
There needs to be a vote each and every time a position in our government opens up. We can’t allow these people to simply “tell” us who our next senator or governor will be.
There used to be power behind our votes, we must insist that our rights as American citizens to choose our leaders, should remain with the American people, not delegates or super delegates.
The people should decide, no more pay to play and this one with Caroline Kennedy is a bit too obvious.
We must take our government back, stop allowing those few to choose what is to be for American citizens.
We have no say about what goes on in our government anymore and there is something very wrong with that.

Comment by Anthony | 2009-01-16 16:41:28

I’ve said this a million times since I first heard it, so if you’ve read this before I apologize.

I AM a New Yorker. Born, bred, raised, sugared, jellied, jammed an hon-eyed on CPS, now living on the UWS.

I DO NOT WANT CK AS MY SENATOR.

However, I think Paterson will give her the nod.

Recently Howard Dean said “She may not have a political bone in her body, but she can raise at lease $100 million for New York Democrats, and Gov. Paterson needs to remember that if plans on running for re-election”

So, that not-so-veiled threat along with Caroline’s lackluster personality and Uncle Teddy “A Blond in Every Pond” Kennedy’s pull in D.C. will most likely make this historic (cough, hurl) appointment a textbook study of The Blind Leading The Bland

Comment by snosandy | 2009-01-16 17:05:01

I have firmly believed all along that if Paterson appoints CK as Senator, that it is nothing more than “Pay for Play.”

The reasons she would be appointed are 1. She can raise $100 million dollars for the Democratic party. 2. She will support and endorse Paterson in his bid for re-election. 3. Her closeness to BO will influence large amounts of federal money to be given to the state of New York in the future. Please explain to me if that is not pay for play.

I will not support an unqualified woman who did not supportt the highly qualified Hillary during the primaries.

Comment by trixta | 2009-01-17 02:48:02

Should CK be appointed, the role of a woman Senator would be reduced to that of a socialite — i.e. soley raising money for the bankrupt DNC.

Comment by DAB | 2009-01-17 09:39:28

Totally agree. I naively thought that the Kennedys would back off from this sham when the whole Blago thing erupted. Strange that so many saw no similarity between these two since they both reek of Pay to Play.

Comment by fif | 2009-01-16 23:57:55

And with that comment, Dean reveals exactly why Obama was engineered into the nomination over HC–his mysterious billion dollar pay day (that he didn’t even share with down ticket Dems). Nice to see the Dems’ standards are so high. Democratic principles? Nah…show me the money! They’re not even smart enough to hide it anymore. So what’s the difference between the “new Dem party” and the Republicans again? (And don’t cite policy: see FISA, Warren, privatizing Social Security, Bush’s security “tools” that will remain in place etc.).

Comment by S-Angeltour | 2009-01-16 16:44:46

Uppitywoman is right on…

…for many of us, the problem really isn’t Caroline Kennedy personally…it is Caroline Kennedy trying to race to the head of the class, ahead of other hard working and studious elected officials…and without doing any homework, without having risked anything and without ever having run for elective office…caroline kennedy seems to think her name and her showing up and showing any interest in the Senate seat should be quite enough…

well, it is not enough…I will speak for myself, but i think many of us agree, that if CK would run for some local office or if say, Carolyn Maloney was chosen for Hillary’s seat, then that House of Rep seat would be a great place for CK to put together her own campaign and begin her quest for elected office…and that would give her plenty of time to become acquainted with the crucial issues…

…or if CK really has this newfound and discovered fire in the belly to be a Senator then she should put together her campaign and prepare to run for the seat in 2010…

…if CK was not trying to exploit her name, but ran on her own efforts…she would garner much more respect and support…and have a good chance to win all on her own…imagine that!

as it stands now, once she started speaking, she lost support…she has been strickly amateur hour and has tanked in the polls…there is no solid reason to choose her over more qualified people…
except for an unsaid ‘pay to play’ agreement

tell me, where can I get a job that pays over $165,000 a year that I have no experience for, no resume and there are about five people ahead of me that have excellent credentials and experience…

…oh, and if I have never held a full time job before in my life…hmmm “pay to play” ????

Comment by I'm a Linda too | 2009-01-16 17:27:30

ABSOLUTELY Upptiy. Skanky indeed.

And, lets not be like the Obama delusional koolaid drinkers. I will not go down that path to be so stupid to claim ANY WOMAN is better than a placing an experienced and competant male in that position.

Why don’t you all root for Ann Coulter for Senate then.

Comment by Lizzy | 2009-01-16 18:55:12

The thing that I dislike most about CK is the fact that she will be a fawning rubber stamp of whatever Obama proposes whether it is good for the people of New York or not. She is utterly unqualified and appointing her insults all women who have worked to earn their credentials.

The Marist poll released yesterday had Cuomo over CK 40% to 25%. He beat her in every region of the state. the closest margin was here in NYC, 36%-31%. If Paterson appoints her I think we’ll have to wait until he’s thrown out of Albany to see what the pay for play was; my money’s on the next Supreme Court vacancy.

Comment by fif | 2009-01-17 00:01:16

This is starting to smell like Pay To Play and it’s not even being done in secret.

Starting? I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it.

Another NY-er here, and Gillibrand is my District Rep. She’s fantastic–strong, independent, intelligent, hard-working. Sound like anyone else we know? I’ve called Paterson & Silver repeatedly, and “encouraged” them to do the right thing. Recently, Paterson said he “would not be bullied,” and would “choose someone who could BE the next Hillary Clinton in 8 years.” I pray he is thinking about Cuomo, Maloney, Gillibrand or any of the other ELECTED representatives who are qualified and deserving. If not, our democracy is clearly beyond rescue–between the media and the financial corruption of the parties, it’s all bought and paid for.

Comment by fif | 2009-01-17 00:06:44

I think these polls might actually give Paterson the cover he needs to choose someone other than CK. He would be a fool to willfully ignore the voice of the entire state. Then again…the Party ignored the will of the majority of the voters in the country, so why should this be any different. Voters are a quaint anachronism.

The “accusation of not supporting ‘women’ for positions” is just about the most hypocritical, cynical stance of all in the Caroline Kennedy matter. The charge against PUMAs and other HRC supporters was that we were voting with our vaginas only. The charge against women supporting Sarah Palin was pretty close–we were voting with stupid vaginas.

But Caroline Kennedy gets thrown into the mix with no experience what so ever [Sarah Palin "was" a mayor, member of an Alaskan energy commission, and an acting Governor and Hillary Clinton's experience/accomplishments have been sung from every hall, far and wide, for SOS] but women are automatically suppose to say yes, yes, yes to the weak sister.

Why? Because she has a vagina, of course.

Please! Could you get any more twisted?? Apparently, Obamatron suckups is all it takes to be ready “On Day One.”

Beyond belief! Anyone buying into this nonsense has lost their bloody mind.

The push for CK for Senator, I believe, is to set her up to run in 2012 with Obama if Biden resigns, or for 2016 as the Dem candidate for president. Like Obama, Ck will use the office of Senator to launch her own presidential aspirations. It’s all part of the grand plan to keep HRC out of the presidential picture in 2016. I hope Chelsea decides to enter the arena of politics and run for her mother’s seat in 2010. She’s proven to be eloquent and knowledgeable about the issues. Chelsea’s bid for the Senaate would drive the Obots and Ck supporters crazy.

Kennedy didn’t even vote in half the elections since 1988, for cripe’s sake.

The buzz is that the seat might very well go to the very hard working and rising star Kirsten Gillibrand.
