TGIF Open Thread!

Take in and digest each of these, will you? And then do tell us how you react to each? Below the fold, you’re going to learn that Robert Redford hates poor people and is a racist, and that one CNN reporter felt compelled to slam “Joe the Plumber” with a stern lecture.

s-o-family-large(1) My question: Where did this girl learn to talk to her father like that? Just wondering … (as I chuckle wickedly to myself)

Obama’s Daughter On Inaugural Speech: “It Better Be Good”

As the final preparations are made for his historic Inauguration on Tuesday, pressure is mounting for President-elect Barack Obama– including from his own children. Speaking to the Washington Post, Obama gives an account of his family “field trip” to the Lincoln Memorial where there is an inscribed copy of the 16th President’s famous Second Inaugural speech. At this point, Obama’s 7 year-old daughter Sasha asked her father if he would be giving a similar speech. Obama describes the interaction to the Post:

“And I said, ‘Well, actually, that’s a short version, but yeah, I will,’ ” Obama recalled. “And then Malia says, ‘First African American president — it better be good.’
“So I just want you to know the pressures I’m under here from my children.

The family’s “field trip” was a symbolic gesture to Lincoln, to whom Obama has frequently been compared. Obama’s children clearly have equally or even higher expectations of their father. This sets them somewhat apart from their mother, who throughout the campaign has insisted that her husband is merely human. Ta-Nahisi Coates, in the January/February Atlantic delves into this quirk extensively, explaining why Michelle Obama was initially viewed as an “Angry Black Woman” during the campaign and why that really isn’t the case at all. The article gives an enlightening account of the value the Obamas place on family. …

(2) SensibleWoman e-mailed this story to me. She noted in her e-mail, “It aggravated me to listen to Rick S. ‘calling out’ Joe the Plumber (whom we all KNOW isn’t a journalist) after going through the ‘08 Election year NOT getting enough info from those we THOUGHT were journalists.”

The thoughts of Rick Sanchez, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you ask me.

(3) Did you know that film legend and environmental activist Robert Redford is an enemy of the poor, and a racist to boot? Nope? Me either.

Protesters label Redford an enemy of the poor
Oil and gas drilling
» Clergymen link famed moviemaker’s stance to racism.

Hollywood’s Sundance Kid is hurting poor people.
So say some East Coast ministers and conservative activists, who took to the streets in front of a downtown Salt Lake City theater on the eve of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival to accuse the actor of holding down low-income Americans with his opposition to oil and gas drilling near national parks in Utah.
The protesters, led by the Congress of Racial Equality’s national spokesman Niger Innis, suggested Redford should “relinquish his wealth” and live like a poor person. They complained that the filmmaker’s anti-drilling stance could lead to higher energy prices for inner-city residents, forcing them to accept a lower standard of living.
The clergymen prayed for Redford “to see the light” and linked his environmental activism with racism.
“The high energy prices we’re going to see this winter are essentially discriminatory,” said Bishop Harry Jackson Jr. of the Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, Md., chairman of the High-Impact Leadership Coalition, a petroleum industry advocate.
A month ago, Redford, a trustee of the National Resources Defense Council, voiced support for a federal lawsuit aimed at blocking the Bush administration’s “morally criminal” attempt to auction 103,000 acres of scenic redrock desert for oil and gas drilling near Arches and Canyonlands national parks and Dinosaur National Monument. …

And what else is going on in the world?

So, let me get this straight–destroying the land so that rich elitists like Dick Cheney can make more millions through their interests in the oil lobby helps poor people? Are they sure they want to make that argument, right now? I didn’t think so.

But, this is enlightening, if a bit shocking and chaotic in form and language:

[Please note] The opinions in this column belong to those who assert them. The historical facts remain facts, like them or not. There is a list of sources for further enlightenment.

If anyone wants to strike back at Obama supporters, an excellent way to do that is to point out that FactCheck and several MSM reporters are lying. I provide proof that they’re lying here:

http://24ahead.com/s/obama-citizenship

Please note: that’s not a “tinfoil hat” page. My only claims are that where Obama was born has not be definitively proven, and that FactCheck is lying about the statement from the Hawaii Dep’t of Health. Comparing what the HI Dep’t of Health actually said to FactCheck’s take on what they said will clearly show that. Please don’t take that page as either a claim or as proof that Obama was born outside Hawaii. My claim is simply that we don’t know for sure.

Note also the difficulties I’m having getting that to stick in Wikipedia here: peekURL.com/zq9gv93

Google the term “random phrase generator.” a software tool to inspire creativity. Does Favreau actually use one? Perhaps. Lincoln, on the other hand, certainly did not.

The daughter’s reaction to Obama’s speech strikes me as typically child-like–you better make it good, Daddy. I’m not so sure I buy the qualification: As the first African American, it better be good.

But what do I know?

The Sundance brouaha struck me as completely off the mark, considering the small amount of oil/gas that could be pulled from the area. Which only reminds me that regardless of what you agree or disagree with, sensible or not, you “will” have crtics coming out of the woodwork.

What else is going on in the world? Well, it appears that the “only” thing that has happened in the last 24+ hours is the plane that came down in the Hudson River.

I’m glad that there were no injuries. I tip my hat to the pilot. But, come on! Too often, these heroes of the moment are eaten alive, drained dry by the press and the 24/7 coverage. I hope that doesn’t happen.

Beyond that, it looks like a ceasefire is close in Gaza. And that would be good news.

I am from South Florida, home to Rick Sanchez where he grew up as a cuban/American. He covered the police beat for a local station here. There was a problem though when he and his father left a Miami Dolphin’s football game. He accidentally hit a pedestrian with his car and went on home. He returned several hours later (after sobering up) to cover the story. Turns out, he was with his father, both had been drinking, he hit the man but did not think there had been any damage? The police buddies covered up for the guy and let him go back home to sleep it off and it was swept under the rug. Then he left for CNN. Go figure.

Some kids might speak to their parents like that..but Im not sure many parents would want to admit to it. To me this type of talk shows a lack of respect for the parents. Respect that is taught in the home.
Right now Im just expecting to see the a big ole EXPENSIVE party in DC, which with our economical problems right now is so very inanely frivolous.

You would think with all the unemployment, people about to be unemployed, families in foreclosure, familes about to be foreclosed on, and etc in our country that Obama would try a bit of a more low dollar approach to his ignaruation.

Wasnt it Obama who said that we all needed to tighten our belts a bit and do away with some of the extras.
So what does Obama do–Spend twice as much as the biggest ignaruation celebration.

Im sorry but with all the people who are now having to do without and many doing without the just the some of the necessities, I think making an ignaruation celebration the most costly ever for our country’s taxpayers is ludicrous and inane.

I just listened to Mark Shields on PBS’s Newshour worshipping Obama. Shields said something bizarre about about Obama being the first “post-cultural” president, then went on to list some of the issues of the 60’s like Vietnam and the woman’s movement Of course he didn’t mention civil rights. Then Shields enthusiastically said Obama could not care less about those issues and did not have side!! Is it any wonder that liberals are such losers? Apparently it is much better to have a president who doesn’t care about pesky things like women’s rights.
Then David Brooks, who met Obama at this week’s neocon dinner at George Will’s house, blathered on about how great it was that Obama is driven by empiricism and has no ideology, no grand vision of what government should accomplish, blah blah blah.

So according to these guys, Obama is REALLY great because he stands for nothing. No surprise to me, but I bet his loyal followers will be surprised when - or if - they ever stop drinking the Koolaid.

That is so sad, Bernie. Are we left with the question of the Civil Rights Movement and whether it is also unimportant to Mr Obama. The answer would seem to be “no” since he has nothing but disdain for the men and women who marched and died. If the only reason for AA support for his election is the color of hi skin, they have accomplished their goal. If they believed he would empathise and try to provide a government more responsive to their needs, they will be disappointed and hurt.

One I regretted ever supporting him in my life and had to vote against him. I wasted alot of money and all I got was this damn fake historic President.

No more money for anyone. Hillary should be able to get it. None of these politicians need our money. it’s small potatoes to them anyway!

very powerful testimony regarding the 2008 season. Yes, there were a ton of donations that might now feel like fraud. I only donated to two campaigns, Clinton and Nader. I don’t feel slighted in my donation for either because I knew that it was possible they wouldn’t win, especially with Nader. But that wasn’t my aim.

However, I doubt I contributed as much as you did, so I respect your feelings about future donations.

Bend down and hold onto your ankles real tight. Nazi Pelosi and nObama are going to continue to Obamaboozle the American public.

As millions of Americans prepare to witness the circus of an Usurper thug master–the remainder of us get ready to keep the TV off.

I do not intend to turn my T.V. on at all on Tuesday, the 20th. I refuse to watch this circus. I will spend the day riding my horse, mucking stalls and enjoying the clean fresh air. I received the DVD John Adams for Christmas so I will watch that Tuesday night.

I saw an ad for head sets by plantronic head phones on NQ, just thought I would recommend this set I purchased which is bluetooth and will pair with a phone and a media player laptop, they work for not being “connected” by a cord to the laptop. MOTOROKR™ S9-HD Bluetooth Stereo Headphones

In case you didn’t catch Hillary’s full speech. Ah I love her in Navy blue.
http://www.clinton.senate.gov/news/statements/details.cfm?id=306786&&

“This could be a time when people will look back and say, you know, you never can count America out. Whenever the chips are down, we always rise to the occasion. We figure out a way forward and then we make life better – better for our people – and we extend peace and prosperity and progress throughout the world.
We have much to do over in Foggy Bottom  and we need your help to kind of clear up the fog, to give us a chance to really operate on all cylinders with the direction and the resources and the improved management techniques that I hope to bring to the job.

This is a challenging and defining moment. But I will always keep faith in this body and in my fellow Americans. And I remain an optimist that America’s best days are still ahead of us.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Wouldnt it be grand if they proved that HARDING’s great grandmother was black. That sure would dish every racial aspect Obama has been fighting for.
From what we know wouldnt that make Harding more Negro than Obama?

I now, if confirmed, will have the high honor of serving our country in a new role. But I will be sustained and directed by the same values that have motivated me for nearly four decades in public service.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Man, I love her!

A kid would say it better be the bomb daddy, but it is kind of strange for a kid e to mention that he is the first African American so it better be a good speech.

Most children don’t see color unless it is something that they hear around the house from their parents about who is black or white, so those words are strange coming from a kid, why did she just not say as president you better be good, but the stress point was you are black so it has to be good…strange indeed.

The Atlantic writer named Coates is a jerk. During the campaign, he deleted my posts because I was anti-Obama. However, I will give credit to the other Atlantic bloggers. Most of them would publish everyone’s posts or comments even if they were against BO’s candidacy.

Memo to Coates - MO is no role model. Her job at the University of Chicago was a pay for play. The University raised her salary from $125,000 to $300,000+ after Obama became a Senator. Since his election, her position has been eliminated. The Obamas are living a lifestyle like King Louie and Marie Antoniette and Barack isn’t even President.

Ditto! I plan to read books, walk my dog, exercise, make a delicious meal, and pray for our country. BO is going to bankrupt this nation with his socialist agenda. He is already running for President in 2012. His change or meetup groups are code words for Acorn. Under his leadership, we are turning into a Big Brother nation.

Patrick Henry

With BO’s “cult” of personality, it is no surprise that he didn’t watch President Bush’s speech. However, what goes around comes around. Did anyone catch Bush’s remark that he was proud to be a “citizen” of the US? Could he be referring to BO’s fake BC?
