Where is the Outrage?

No, this isn’t about an atrocity against Jews or Palestinians.
Thais ‘leave boat people to die’
From my main news source, The BBC.

Thai soldiers are detaining illegal migrants from Bangladesh and Burma and forcing them back out to sea in boats without engines, survivors say.
Survivors say their hands were tied and they were towed out to sea with little or no food or water.
About 500 migrants are now recovering from acute dehydration in India’s Andaman islands and the Indonesian province of Aceh.
Thai officials were not immediately available for comment.
But sources in the police and army confirmed to the BBC’s Jonathan Head in Bangkok that asylum seekers are being pushed out to sea. They did not provide further details about the practice.
Thousands of poor Burmese and Bangladeshis try to reach south-east Asian nations in search of work.
‘Without food’
Survivors rescued by Indian coast guards say hundreds of other asylum-seekers are still missing after leaving Bangladesh and Burma since the end of November.
They told the BBC that they paid agents to take them to Thailand by boat so that they could have a better life.

They said that the Thai authorities detained many of them in Koh Sai Daeng island.
“Thai soldiers tied up our hands and then put us in boats without engines. These were towed into the high sea by motorised boats and left to drift,” said Zaw Win, a survivor rescued by Indian coast guards off the coast of Little Andamans after drifting for 12 days.
“We were without food and water. The Thai soldiers clearly wanted us to die on the boats,” Win told the BBC by telephone from a camp where survivors are being cared for.

So NewHampster asks you, Where the fuck is the outrage?
Why did I not see this or hear of this on the news or goddess forbid on some “progressive” blog that is so concerned with the lives of innocent people?
Because these people, these refugees do not have a worldwide public relations effort to get them noticed. Just like the people of Darfur do not have a PR firm keeping their plight in front of our eyes.
I am sick of outrage caused by PR. That is exactly what got His Oliness elected. Outrage over the war and Hillary Clinton’s hawkish support of the Bush policies that she trusted. People were outraged because the Chicago PR machine never let up and never let them forget who voted for the war.
There are innocent people being killed, raped, enslaved every day.
Show some outrage.

I’m outraged when I see children blown to bits by Israeli bombs. I’m outraged when I see people in a marketplace blown to bits as they purchase veggies for dinner. I’m outraged when I see children starving because their people have been driven off the land they’ve farmed for generations. I’m outraged when we pushed Haitians back into the ocean. I’m outraged when the Thais do it too.
I’m outraged I guess
It is an outrage. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. The US did the same thing in WWII to a group of Jews who arrived in the US by boat, did we not? And, what about our rendition to Syria for torture of Maher Arar, a Canadian citizen, kidnapped at JFK and imprisoned in a hole for nearly a year, tortured, etc.? There’s another outrage for you.
And, then there is the most ridiculous faux outrage in the past century to come down the pike in the form of Rep Steve King, who says it is an outrage that Barack Obama will be sworn in as President of the United States using his full name: BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.
No, I kid you not. Rep. Steve King, whose constituents must be the dumbest fucking people on the face of the earth to elect this BUFFOON, thinks Obama should not use his middle name because it gives those “terrists” joy.
Oh, ferchrisesakes, is there any sanity in this world? [rhetorical question, I know there is sanity SOMEWHERE, I just haven't located it on Google Earth yet.] [snark].
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17506.html
Every prez has used their full name, why not his Oliness? Because he is really Barry anyway.
Sorry New H … I was responding to the post above yours
Lol … Steve King is “outraged” because he thinks its unfair that people who were calling BO … barack HUSSEIN Obama (insert nasty, degrading twang)during the primary were accused of being racist ( or using the Hussein to evoke stereotypical fear)
And now BO DARES to want to use his rightful birth name…whywhywhy..I never.
As a child I insisted that everyone address my by my middle name as “Robin” brought out the most vicious teasing imaginable. When I grew up I swithched back to my given name becuase I was more mature.
“Inflection” is obviously lost in translation.
“It is an outrage. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. The US did the same thing in WWII to a group of Jews who arrived in the US by boat, did we not? If I may go back a little further in history to look for outrage,I’d like Eastern Europe to file a case against the Ottoman for reparations for all the death and destruction their invasions caused (plus hold them responsible, however indirectly for at least Balkan War I). At the same time, I’d like the Spanish and the French to file against the Moors for the the carnage and destruction their invasions caused. Next would be the Magyars and the Huns. And to make it more current, I’d like to know who is responsible for the Latin language disappearing.
Now for the real outrage: unfortunately, mass media is entertainment these days. It might be very well deliberately done to keep the populace from being “fully” informed and involved. An ‘information sedated’ public is easy to control and manipulate…witness elections. Some good sources are still out there though, in addition to the Net, the Economist, for example.
I was appalled to read of the treatment immigrants from Central America get as they enter Mexico. Not much is written on that, but much is said about the Mex./US border.
Joe Connor wonders about the justice of Eric Holder becoming Atty General…I do think he’s got a right to highlight his feeling of injustice. I empathize with how painful it must be for him, though I haven’t lost my father in a terrorist attack. Clearly, Connor is not seeking violence or vengeance, but feels his own outrage. Can’t say I blame him after reading the article.

Terrorists killed my dad
Atty. Gen.-nominee Eric Holder helped pardon terrorists linked to my father’s murder in 1975.
By Joseph F. Connor
January 16, 2009
In 1975, when I had just turned 9, my father was killed by terrorists.
He was supposed to be home early on that Jan. 24 for a family celebration of my birthday and that of my brother, who had just turned 11. Instead, while my father was at a business lunch at the historic Fraunces Tavern in New York’s financial district, a bomb exploded, killing him and three others. One of my father’s colleagues was decapitated, and silverware from the table was lodged in the torsos of the other victims. The Armed Forces of National Liberation, or FALN, a Puerto Rican terrorist group, claimed responsibility.
My father was just 33. Up to that point, his life had been an American success story. The only child of immigrants, he was raised in Washington Heights, a blue-collar section of Manhattan. He worked his way through college and went on to a job at J.P. Morgan, a firm at which his mother had worked nights as a cleaning lady. He was a terrific father. His death has left a gaping hole in our lives.
Now my family is facing a blow of a different kind.
President-elect Barack Obama has nominated a man to be his attorney general who was closely involved in former President Clinton’s decision as he was leaving office to pardon 16 FALN members convicted on conspiracy and weapons charges. Though no one was ever charged specifically with the Fraunces Tavern bombing, the FALN proudly claimed responsibility for it amid more than 100 others. Its attacks killed six people and wounded scores of others. Tellingly, the bombings stopped after 10 FALN members were convicted of conspiracy and weapons offenses and sent to prison in 1981. They were among those Clinton chose to pardon.

Sorry folks but My outrage is busted.
barry, that is my reaction. i am like you know(smile) concerned about AMERICANS. the averaqe joe and children who are trying to get by. IF WE DON’T TAKE CARE OF THIS, HOW IN THE HECK CAN WE DO ANYTHING FOR ANYONE ELSE. there it is. i am overwhelmed with all the things i am supposed to be outraged about these days. sorry!
What ever do those people at the UN do for a living?
Hampster..
Right on…One can always come to No quarter for some RAGE and PUMA ROARING…but I share you anger and frustration..We, The People have a VOICE, now, with the Internet, More than Ever..
But, sadly, the PEOPLE are losing thier Power..that Consept of Government being Of the people, by the People and For the People..with a Passionate Agenda
for Equal Rights and Correcting the Socical and Political injustices injustices until We are Standing as tall as the Statue of LIBERY and are a Nation that is Vibrant and Brightly Shining as the TORCH of FEEDOM..
sadly..The Politicians, The Bureaucats, and the MONEY People ..and the MEDIA.. RUN THIS NATION..and most other Nations..
No One Can Buy or Sell (Anything) without the Mark of the Beast..or if the BEAST doesnt Care about Injustices,..or what we the People Think…
IT OWNS THE PLAYING FIELD…and makes the RULES..
the “UNITED NATIONS” is a Frace…and nothing more than a Social Club…Financed by the United States Government.. where the same Rules and games are being played out..
A FARCE…!1
There is where ALL International Abuses and Human Rights should Be the FOCUS…Where Issues should be as hotly Debated as they are here at No Quarter…
That Orweillian Control..That disregard for the Human Rights and Human Abuse Problems Outrages ME…
Its a Nasty game..and the things being done in Dark Places by Fallen Angels..Is Disgusting..
As long as we have no Quarter..we Have a Voice and can VENT..Shame on the Dark Lords of Money..
on the Sheeple Who Don’t Care because They are Stunned into Silence..and On those who just don’t value human Life..and Liberty enopugh to Speak Out..
Every country has to take its own actions to protect its citizens. What were these people doing entering Thailand illegally in the first place? What were they expecting if they were caught? That they would be given a red carpet welcome? They are lucky that they were not shot dead on the beach itself. And how do you know that they are not terrorists? Thailand has been having problems from militants in the South.
And BTW, today Hamas has once again rejected a ceasefire. You know why? They still want to fire rockets into Israel.
Yeh..
Kinda like the Defiant Mouse giving the Swooping Eagle that Has long Oustretched talons the FINGER..
HUH…..
so patrick henry, what would you have us do? send troops? put sanctions in place? walk in the streets protesting? with all the outrage on here, you’d have to book reservations weeks in advance for your outrage walk that day with multiple signs.
sorry but while this is a tragedy for sure, i am getting to the end of my outrage. i worry first about paying bills. i worry about whether the dims are going to screw me some more. that is where my outrage is right now. that is reality
so please come up with some positive useful things we can do.
OK…OK..
To Be more Fair and balanced…Honest and Impartial ..
More like RATS wearing Bomb Belts..Facing Mega ton Bombs…being dropped from Airplanes..
Sorry to get the EAGLES involved in this..
POut of the Three participants..I actually do like EAGLES…
Football teams Included…
New Hampster,
My first thought when I started reading your post was the U.S. position on Haitians, which you later commented on.
I don’t know the answers, so I have to fall back, assess the issues of injustice and hopelessness.
From there, I devise a plan to help someone, someway, in my own small world.
Food banks and all types of agencies desperately need help, so put your outrage to work. It’s good for you!
Good idea. But not for me since I work way too many hours to pay the bills.
But a very good idea for those who can.
First…Have a President of the united Sates and a Congress know that we are Fed Up..and EXPECT Leadership..Not Bullshit and Corruption..
How..Letters to the editor for One..I regret not Writing more of those along with my Comments here..
Stay in touch with Our Elected represenatives..and Voice our concerns..demand results…Email the ones who are worth a damn like JIM WEBB..
Do More Social and Political Activist Work..Attend City council meetings..(barely attended)..be a Voice at the local..grass Roots level..
Contribute to food banks and join other Groups that really make a Diffweerence..
Support PUMA..and other equal Rights Groups..Sure…Show support by Marching in peaceful Protests when a Group is going to your state capitol..Expose ALL Abusesand neglect..
I actively Support a great candidate for City Council..campaigned for him..a military vet who really cares aboutissues and wasted Goverment spending that Focuses More on Pet Projects than HUMAN RESOURCES as a Priority..He WON..and is a real Champion Providing LEADERSHIP at V
City Hall..
How many people are just plain discoraged from Voting because of apathy..
get a UN Ambasssador who will Fight all the BS going on in theUN..Pound the Table and show REAL Leadership instead of droning On in the same ld Monotone..
Challenge Tjose trying to capture conbtrolof the UN for thier own Agendas ..Mostly nations who could give a Rats ASS about Human Rights, Freedoms..Suffering ..or Abuses ..especially those in Third world countrys..
Wherwe is thierVoice…If we the middle class go dowen in americ..it will be becuase of our Apathy..and allowing those in Control to Stomp Us Down..
As For Me…”Don’t Tread on Me’..
and Give me Liberty..Good Government..or DEATH”
And put the Assholes in jail for a change instaed of allowing them to go back to thier 5 million Dollars Apartments…To Pack up More..:”Family eirlooms..”
Justice..? What Justice..
I haveNot yet begun to Fight.. !!
yes..I will Rally round the Flag..old Stars% Stripes..I Know whose blood Paid for that FLAG &
What it represents…
Patrick Henry…when she is leaning over..in battle or otherwise.I..wll Pick her up..Salute her and Carry on..

I will Always Have my Torch of freedom lit..and find Food and shelter..for..YOU..The PEOPLE…
END HUMAN SUFFERING..
Do they have a natural resource in their back yard that America needs? If not, its pretty doubtful we’ll respond. Cynical, sad, but unfortunately, history shows this to be suspiciously true.
New Hampster-
I agree with you in that I too am outraged.
I think it was Dante who wrote (and I am paraphrasing here):
The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a time of crisis maintain their neutrality…
We (our world) is facing major crisis.
This crisis deals with various issues including the economy, health, and loss of our moral compass (ie we need to get back to basic human values and striving for human excellence).
We need to continue to inform and educate each other in an effort to:
Best case scenario- empower our citizens so they can get more involved to help change bad situations at home and around the globe
and
Worst case scenario- raise the social consciousness to the point that when we are asked to step up to the plate to make a decision (vote, for example) or take action (enlist to fight an illegal/immoral war effort, sign a petition, donate money to a charity etc…) we will have a basis for choosing what action or decision to take.
We need to continue to stay informed.
We need to be VERY discriminatory as to where to go for ‘NEWS’…
We need to ‘ focus high beams of light’ on these atrocities around the world.
Most importantly, we need NOT beat ourselves up if we are limited as to how we can change things.
We MUST take care of our own basic needs first and the needs of our families and friends and neighbors.
Then- we will ALL be in better positions to help out the rest of the world in whatever ways we can.
At the VERY LEAST we can help each other to stay as well informed as possible until, and if when, we are in a position to devote more time and energy to take actions, then we will be able to do so.
And lastly…WE MUST PROMOTE AND PROTECT ACCESS TO INFORMATION-WE MUST PROTECT THE INTERNET …We must find a way to balance freedom of information with freedom from internet predators who seek to harm others through the use of internet.
Yes NewHampster-I am outraged too. Thank you for your article.
I will forward your info to others…
Right now-at least for the time being- that is the best I can do until I can take care of things on the homefront…
WELL SAID ATHY…
