Rashid Khalidi. Now where have I heard that name before?

Maybe here? And here? And here? And here? And here? And in dozens and dozens more stories here at No Quarter, where we provided 24/7 political coverage throughout the primaries and general election, focusing appropriate and highly-detailed attention on Barack Obama’s longtime relationships with radicals like Rashid Khalidi. The two men were (are?) close friends, as were their families.

But, hey. The election is over. Will Barack be Blackberrying Rashid for advice on Israel and Gaza? I don’t know. I’m not so sure, especially because of the security holes. But I pretty damn sure that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and National Security Adviser Gen. James Jones will likely not be consulting Khalidi.

But now I find Khalidi saved in my DVR from his appearance on Thursday night as a guest on Charlie Rose’s segment on the horrible crisis in Gaza. And Khalidi DOES know Gaza and the Palestinian people, so his perspective is worth listening to. Here’s the entire segment:

Below, the names and affiliations of all of the guests:

The show’s description:

An update on Gaza with Rashid Khalidi, Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University, Roger Cohen of “The International Herald Tribune” and David Makovsky of The Washington Institute’s Project on the Middle East Peace Process.

Note that nothing was said about the Vanity Fair article that Larry Johnson alerted us to which documents how the United States attempted to split the Palestine population (Iran Contra 2)after a democratic election.

That said, the Israel popultion of the West Bank and the Jimmy Carter exposure of the walling off the population continues. We continue to support Israel to the tune of $3 Billion a year along with other Military aid.

As I said, late night TV ads HERE soliciet $700. to pay for Russian Jews to be moved to Isreal ( to poulate the west bank???).

One could ultimately speculate that we are part of a long term program to demoralize and evaporate the Palestine population.

JUST LIKE WE DID TO THE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN AND THEIR LANDS

I cannot help but wonder if Hillary and Barack will be honest brokers on this one.

i hope not as you would define the issue.yes israel has to return 85 to 90 percent of the west bank the sooner the better, however it would be suicide to give back the military crests that were formally part of the west bank, also the corridor to jeruselum has to be wider than it was in 1967, lastly no right of return.if nesessary put a massive economic development project into the west bank to create jobs and make the saudis put up or shut up.im shure i will be critizied for thease statements but this is reality and should be forced down both sides throats.

I was not born then, none one in my family tree was part of it. Quit with the guilt trip.

Dr Gilbert, a Norwegian Dr has just confirmed on PRESS TV that the Israelis are using a new type of weapon that shred’s the body in pieces.

The Dr has said that these weapons are against international law and that most people coming into the hospital have been injured by this weapon, women and children have been affected by this weapon They are called Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME). Apparently it’s, designed for low “collateral damage” yet, it is highly carcinogenic and harmful to the environment. Israel continues its offensive on Gaza for a 22nd consecutive day, pounding the Zaytun district of Gaza City with white phosphorous bombs.

The Israeli phosphorous bombs also hit a UN school in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza early Saturday. According to medics and witnesses, the strike on the school, where civilians were sheltering from the fighting, has claimed the lives of a woman and a child, injuring eleven others.

Hey Susan… get over it. Barack Obama is being sworn in.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-01-17 13:24:28

The fact that O is “being sworn in” does not he will be unaccountable for his associates and actions. It means that now for the first time, he WILL be held accountable. Or so I hope.

Comment by oowawa | 2009-01-17 13:27:16

does not he will be unaccountable=”does not mean he will be held unaccountable.”

Sorry.

Not sure what the point your post is? Rashid Khalidi is a brillant middle east scholar. You should listen to what he has to say. You may learn something! It a very good thing that Obama talks to this guy. More politicians should be open to hear from all sides of an issue and different points of view.

You can call him a radical if you like, which is a bit unfair and really just a Republican talking point, but there should be more Rashid Khalidis in the United States, to give a much a more balanced view on the Middle East and the world.
