[...] My Problem with the Inauguration Frenzy and a Prescription Going Forward (by Ani at No Quarter) In this inaugural festival, in the interest of huddling together to stay warm, we are now, however unintentionally, giving President Obama a pass on the entire last year. I am sorry, but I cannot. Last year, women got kicked in the teeth by the media and the Democratic party, as well as certain male candidates. I feel like an abused wife who was slapped around every day and everybody else saw it and now a lot of people out there are pretending it didn’t happen, for the good of the country. I am not a fan of revisionist history, nor do I believe the ends justify the means… [...]

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/studentnews/12/14/transcript.mon/#2

EXCERPT:

GEORGE RAMSAY, CNN STUDENT NEWS: Time for the Shoutout!

What is the United States first lady's annual salary? Is it: A) $175,000, B) $97,000, C) $35,000 or D) Unpaid? You've got three seconds --

GO! There is no government pay for the U.S. first lady. That's your answer and that's your Shoutout!

Pay or Nay?

AZUZ: Before she was first lady, Laura Bush worked as a teacher and librarian. Former first lady Hillary Clinton was a lawyer. Betty Ford even a theatrical dancer! When they moved into the White House thought, they all left the professional world to take on a new role. Some folks question whether that position should be paid. Alina Cho examines the issue.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ALINA CHO, CNN REPORTER: She'll make history as the nation's first black first lady. But even before her husband's historic win, Michelle Obama was a powerhouse in her own right: an Ivy League-educated lawyer with a six-figure salary. In a month, she'll be moving into a new home and a new full time job, working for free.

IMO,Michelle Obama should receive pay ONLY IF...Barack Obama agrees to pay a fair salary to all the people that he is asking to sign up on his website to volunteer their services for free.

AND...the federal government should deduct from Michelle Obama's GOVT SALARY any and all living expenses incurred by her mother, who I understand will be living in the White House with Barack and Michelle Obama and their two daughters.

Beener - To what do you attribute your belief that 0bama has proven himself to be an 'honorable guy'? I'm asking respectfully because for a while last year, I was sincerely evaluating each of the candidates independently and with an open mind.

It became so obvious that 0bama was a panderer, a woefully typical politician who frankly isn't very good at lying - and he did it so often, I used to laugh at his gall thinking, 'I can't believe this guy thinks he can get away with this crap!'

Imagine my shock when it appeared no one else was paying attention and couldn't see what was so blatantly in front of them. Then again, this was before I found NQ and used to watch (and believe in) the MSM who have never exhibited any shame at how obviously biased they have been and are.

So I am genuinely curious to know what you personally find so honorable about him.

By the way, it is not bitter to tell the truth.

- ;)

I have been saying this for a very long time.

Calling out a man on his lies and deception is not being bitter.

It's telling the truth, and it really is as simple as that.

Ani, I love your post and agree with every point you made. I don't intend to stop protesting what the Democratic Party did this year, but for the first time in thirty years of political activism I feel things slipping away. I've never felt so many conflicting emotions. I love Aretha Franklin and her song brought tears to my eyes, John Lewis is a wonderful man and Civil Rights icon and I'm happy for him and others who have never dared to dream this would come to pass in their lifetime. Obama didn't move me and I felt nothing when he spoke except anger and dread. I despise what he has done and I'm afraid of what he will or won't do. He isn't fit to be president, not ready for the job. Today is the party, but tomorrow the problems will still be there and Pres. Obama will still be Barack Obama, the man who voted present, flipped off a former first lady and senator, bought a house with the help of an influence peddler, lied and cheated his way into the oval office.

If we are not going to insist upon FEC investigations for President Obama’s questionable internet contributions, if over 2,000 instances of caucus fraud, egregious about-faces on critical policy positions such as FISA, along with sexism, and mixed messages to the gay community are now to be given a pass — well, forgive me, we can hold hands all we want but that will not improve our current lot as a nation. We are setting the stage for yet another President who suffers no consequences for his actions.

- You are such a great writer Ani. I feel the exact same way.

This post is a NoQuarter classic.

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, but this argument does not work. And if you are going to point to Schwarzenegger as an example of someone with no government experience who is a good leader -- you a drawing on a very weak hand. CA is going to have to write IOUs to people at tax time. They are in devastated shape.

Further, there is no conspiracy theory about Hillary. The evidence was there for the DNC's fix and the media lauding the inexperienced Obama while feeding the brilliant Hillary a crap sandwich daily. It was an illuson that she had all the cards. Clearly that was not the case. This contest ended basically in a tie with her ahead in the popular vote and him ahead in pledged delegates by a very small margin -- this should have clearly been decided at a real convention -- not a pre-fixed one.

But that is over with.

Next: Pelosi clearly wanted the economy as her "fall issue" and it was the club the DNC used to beat the Repubs with even though there is plenty of blame to go around on this issue -- this is the shock doctrine.

Beyond that, we have O now. I hope he is able to surprise us all and succeed. I know Hillary will do very well as SoS because she is brilliant and an amazingly hard worker. We need all the help we can get.

By the way, it is not bitter to tell the truth. His campaign played the race card with impunity every day since January and he has changed his stance on more important policy than an athlete changes his socks. That is the truth. There is no conspiracy theory about it. It is well documented for those who bother to look.

Let us hope for all our sakes that he finds his sea legs.

It is truly unfair to try to practice revisionist history now and pretend the events of the last year did not unfold the way they did. That is not something I will permit without answer.
