[KEY UPDATE] Sweet Caroline…Ba Ba Bahhh…Good Times Never Seem So Good
By RobWarrior on January 22, 2009 at 3:35 PM in Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Caroline Kennedy, Current Affairs, Hillary Clinton

UPDATE: The truth is trickling out. See the New York Times article, “Housekeeper and Taxes Are Said to Derail Kennedy’s Bid,” and all the accompanying stories and blog posts organized and linked at Memeorandum.com.
Whether you are a traditionalist and prefer the Neil Diamond version, or a late night bar patron who goes for a rousing Jimmy Buffet sing-a-long, it’s a good day to break out this seventies classic. Speaking of Neil Diamond, the Jazz Singer was on cable the other day and I have to wonder if Sir Laurence Olivier rolls over in his grave every time that piece of crap is shown. But, I digress. Here’s is why we are singing this morning.
“I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate,”
Caroline Kennedy’s people issued that one sentence statement late last night after a bizarre evening of revelations and denials.
The New York papers started reporting on the withdrawal early Wednesday night and the reports were quickly followed by denials from members of the Kennedy camp. Finally, all speculation was put to rest with the one sentence withdrawal using the shopworn but always effective excuse of “personal reasons.”
The New York Post claims the withdrawal came after Kennedy learned she would not be Governor Paterson’s selection to fill the seat once held by her slain uncle Robert F. Kennedy. On the other hand, if you read the New York Daily News they will tell you that she was still the pick as late as 24 hours ago.
Knowing New York state politics as I do, I still think that if Caroline really wanted to follow through and take this seat she would have been the pick. David Paterson is not in a position to put himself at odds with Caroline’s principal sponsors President Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
As it is, he is going to face a bruising election battle (I can’t say re-elected since he was not elected governor in the first place) in two years and he will need cash and support from Obama Democrats and Bloomberg to stay on the sidelines.
So why did she drop out? What are those personal reasons? We can only guess. But, Uncle Teddy’s health isn’t it. He was already dying when she made the decision to pursue the seat. That may sound crass, but it’s true (and I’ve already subjected you to Neil Diamond.) I think it comes down to matters of privacy and who she really is.
Caroline got the bug about public service while on the trail stumping for President Obama. She was met everywhere she appeared by adoring throngs of “hopium stoned” Obama groupies who cheered, hugged and enveloped her in an intoxicating blanket of Obama love. They cried when they told her how “The One” was carrying on the legacy of her father. It had to be a great feeling. Why wouldn’t she want more?
The media shielded Obama from harsh study, so why wouldn’t it be the same for her? She could go to Capitol Hill, work for the people and feel the love. It sounds pretty appealing. The problem was Caroline forgot about one thing. New Yorkers are a tough crowd, even for those they like. You need thick skin and sharp elbows to swim in those cold, shark infested political waters. While many Kennedys are built that way she isn’t and New York is still Clinton Country. Hill and Bill supporters aren’t particularly fond of the Kennedys these days and they were leading a charge that had her public opinion polls slipping daily.
While Paterson would have probably picked her in the end, just knowing he really didn’t want to had to hurt her. The jabs from the media and You Tube crowd over her brutal interviews had to sting even more. Re-opening old family wounds from her cousin’s unseemly divorce from Andrew Cuomo just made it worse. Then she learned that the private questionnaire she filled out for Governor Paterson with very personal Schlossberg financial information could be made public. For the Kennedy who at public events (before Obama) usually chose to sit in the back corner, it was all too much. She really didn’t want it after all.
It’s not that she was unqualified (as so many have claimed). Caroline Kennedy is probably as accomplished as many already serving in the Senate. Many have come to the Senate with no prior public service, even from celebrity backgrounds (Senator Bill Bradley, for example) and have served well. But, they were elected.
An appointment from the Governor is something else. That person needs to be the most qualified to serve all the people of the state and should have a public record worthy of such a rare opportunity and Caroline did not.
Her withdrawal is a stinging rebuke for President Obama. Her appointment was going to be his opening to break the Clinton hold on New York State Democrats. Bill and Hillary have been loyal soldiers for the party in the state. They’ve personally donated to numerous campaigns for Congressmen, State Senators, Assemblymen and County Executives etc. More importantly, both have headlined at countless breakfasts, brunches, cocktail parties and dinners allowing the hosts to raise thousands of dollars off the Clinton name.
The Obama camp does not like seeing so many powerful leaders beholden to the Clintons. Caroline was going to be the new star, injecting tons of Kennedy cash and star power to the New York game while Hillary is forced to temper her activities in accordance with the protocol of being Secretary of State. With one sentence from Caroline, that plan is toast.
Now the likelihood is that whoever Paterson picks will not be a loyal Obama solider. Andrew Cuomo is his own man, part of a rich New York legacy and Clinton supporter to boot. Carolyn Maloney is her own woman.
Yup, good times never seem so good.

MSNBC reporting that Caroline had housekeeper and taxes issues…
If MSNBC, the mouthpiece of the Kennedy/Obama axis, is reporting that its about nanny’s and taxes, then you can count on the fact it is really about sex.
LMAO
it’s not the Caroline he thought he knew
WTF? It seems every member of the elite has housekeeper and tax issues. They hire illegals so they can pay them LESS and they cheat on their taxes so they can pay LESS.
So so typical. Too bad she had to bow wow out of the race but she promised the practice better oral hygiene in her next attempt to slime her way into the power grid.
I’m Back>>>>>Sometimes things umm work out for umm the best…I voted for her ummm father and have voted for her Uncle Ted each election for 46 years..umm if I were a New Yorker I would NEVER have voted for her…um where did she get her personality from Grandma Auchincloss????/?? Ummm what a dud and no one is so special that they should be given a job that they are so obviously unsuited for…..Ummm thank god she got that out of her system!!!!!
OOPS!!! Just read the latest in the NY Post..If she is carrying on with Sultzberger from the NY Times I guess she’s more Like Granddaddy Black Jack Bouvier …Oh those randy Kennedys!!!!!!
I just heard a report similar to what Shannon stated. The “personal issues” seem to include taxes, a nanny problem and some messy information on her marriage. Plus I heard earlier that the “fund raising” she did for the NY school district was not as impressive as her supporters claimed.
Strangely enough, it appears there were reporters doing some “investigative work” in this matter.
Miracles will never cease!
there were reporters doing some “investigative work”???
well she is not the one so she can be f***** up! awww she wanted to be one of the guys but she couldn’t
“An appointment from the Governor is seomething else. That person needs to be the most qualified to serve all of the people of the state and should have a public record worthy of such an opportunity…”
Then there’s “Tombstone Burris” of Illinois, in the “Black Seat”, who hasn’t held public office since what, 1995? and has lost uncountable elections.
It’s funny, the trifecta of CK coming up at the same time as Burris, to say nothing of Franken* (a little different, I know, but still…)
Funny how tax and nanny issues are sooo much more severe when a woman politician has them. Has Gueitner been confirmed yet?
Caroline chose to bow out. We will never know if she could have overcome those issues or not.
Uh .. if she was making time with someone other than Schlossberg, the senate seat may be the least of her problems. But. There is probably a pre-nup somewhere, ya’ think?
Timothy Geithner was confirmed today – Jan 22nd. So Mr.”I forgot to pay my taxes” will now be in charge of seeing that we all pay our taxes.
Either the pot is guarding the hen house or the fox is calling the kettle black.
So, BO’s call for transparency and accountability starts AFTER all the crooks are already on his staff? Such BS. It’s like letting someone be in charge of homeland security even though that person has had issues with hiring illegal immigrants.
This is sadly true, Honora. But I’m still glad she’s out. I personally thought she was an awful candidate, riding on the family legacy, not any real experience.
As for Geithner, I think they’ll push him through. The fear factor has been cranked up, so the “tax slips” and other concerns will fade to the background.
Should be interesting!
well, if we want to believe the 3rd reasoning.
Earlier she used her Uncle as the reason. Ted Kennedy camp was furious at that. They claimed how can he work on the Universal Health Care with the fear his ending days are coming. And he’s been working on Universal Health Care his entire career.
Seems she’s just using issues in the news of late, to me.
I’m likelly to believe the story that she learned she wasn’t being picked and Gov Paterson gave her days to bow out. We heard he was going to be announcing it Fri or Sat. Wed night is about the latest she could “withdraw”.
Not only that but now their is secretarian violence in Iraq. Obama said so recently. But since he is a feminist he will get right on it.
Yes, women must be perfect, and even then its iffy. I dont think this woman is qualified, but if she were male she would probably get the appointment. If she were black, definately.
nicely said, The Real HC.
The Real HC: I would not say that CK is not qualified. Whether or not a woman is “qualified” is the hallmark of the biggest obstacle facing women for centuries. The crime of being female.
I think a good case can be made that CK is more than qualified – a law degree, written several impressive books, has been a high dollar fundraiser for some good causes, and comes from a family with politics in its genes whose daily breakfast, lunch and dinner no doubt included high-minded political conversations.
Her problem is obviously she is not a speaker and she never dreamed that would matter. Like her mother she has smiled her way through 50 years of an adoring public.
As an advocate for women, I was horrendously offended that CK would use her immense political capital to endorse a dark horse candidate for the flimsy reasons she gave in her sing-songy, dispassionate, too soft, monotone, non-speaker voice.
The most offensive part was the fact this endorsement was a stunning rebuke of the highly qualified, brilliant candidate who happened to be a woman. Then when Ted Kennedy added his endorsement and spoke about passing the Kennedy torch to BO, it wasn’t the end of the world. But you could see it from that point. CK’s support and continual campaign appearances on behalf of Obama was a blow to Hillary’s campaign.
It is something I can never get over or forgive CK for doing. That is why I could never support her and NOT that she isn’t qualified.
qualified? maybe and maybe not! and i don’t say that based on her gender. the point is we need experienced people and that includes some excellent women avaialble in new york right now. you know! ahhhh! smile new york has serious financial issues right now. she isn’t up to it. she has zero speaking skills and can’t explain herself. A learn as you go situation is not acceptable in this climate.
I’m sure there’s a “servant” problem and we never saw the husband at all…even to the point of not knowing whether she was still married or not. My bet is adultery on one side or the other…maybe both. I’m sure there’s more to come…and that will end any future political aspirations of Mrs. Schlossberg.
Why should adultery even be an issue?
She could be an open book on that issue like Gov Patterson has been.
His first weeks in office were like reading an old issue of “True Confessions”. Oh I forgot, she’s a woman and that’s a no no for us but not for the good ole boys. Just ask her late father or Bill.
Well I’m glad CK decided not to use her Kennedy name to be a NY Senator. Whether she is qualified is a matter of opinion.
Caroline is weak; she lacks experience and can’t even speak to the public which is a must for a politician. In reference to Caroline being a tax breaker….Can you say Timothy F. Geithner?
I give Patterson credit for dragging his feet on this appointment. He would have looked like a “yes man” by going along with the Obama program.
Also, I’m not crazy about Dynasties running the Government. I make an exception to Hillary Clinton due to the fact that she is an exceptional public servant.
MSNBC thought that Caroline could raise a lot of money for her state due to her name. Joe Scaborough was dissappointed she dropped out. Sheesh! That kind of makes me sick; is it always about raising money?
Well, if Joe Scarborough was disappointed can you imagine the Chris Matthews’ funk? He said something to the effect that there was something almost “sacred” about CK’s possible appointment.
Made me want to gag!
What a nut. I hope Matthews runs for PA senate seat as rumored. I live near PA and in my opinion, they’ll eat Chis Matthews alive. The don’t like bull.
Yes that would explain how Murtha won in a landslide.
If a politician can’t raise money, nothing else matters. Sad but true.
I really think if she stayed in, she would have gotten the seat. I truly think she didn’t want the scrutiny.
She thought she would get the same hands off treatment that Obama has received, but they don’t play that way in New York and she doesn’t have a race card to pull out the deck when cornered.
If she had of gotten the seat, I don’t think Caroline would run again once her term was up. I don’t believe she is emotionally strong enough to handle the public srutiny and I certainly don’t think she can handle rejection. I’m sure she jumped the gun and decided to bail so she wouldn’t get rejected.
From what I read earlier, Paterson was set to give Caroline the seat at the end of the week. She called the governor yesterday(?) and said she wanted out. Paterson talked her into another day to think it over after which time CK called back and timidly confirmed “no”. Paterson’s staff then backtracked and said Caroline was not under consideration anyway. Although Ms. Kennedy was true to form, the gov is now looking like a klutz.
Rumor is we can expect another nominee soon, hopefully with better talent at public speaking.
CK may have lived in NY all her life, but she had not paid her dues. Hillary and Bill had more than paid their dues knowing they had to make up for the fact they were not from NY and had made NY their home a short time.
Thank goodness SOMETHING finally worked in the Clintons favor. CK angered Hillary supporters as well as Billary supporters. If CK’s endorsement of BO and subsequent decision to “take” Hillary’s and Uncle Bobby’s Senate seat was a strategy, it backfired big time and rightfully so.
NYT reporting tax issues and household employee issues.
The woman is worth $300 million and can’t pay her taxes?
She needs to take a long, long time out … like another 50 years.
People like her and Geithner make me want to run out and pay my taxes…..NOT!
And people thought that Leona Helmsley was the witch …. seriously …
Per Steve Clemons:
“Friends of hers and people that are part of the Ted Kennedy political franchise told me that her aspirations to be in the Senate had nothing to do with that job — but rather had a lot to do with positioning to succeed Barack Obama in 2016.”
Kinda hard to believe!

haven’t you heard…Inexperienced, Celebrity Presidents are in fashion now.
Where do these people get the idea that Obama is going to survive these four years, much less have a second term? There’s no way that’s happening. None. Within a year his days will be numbered.
R.I.P.
I did not vote for Obama but I sincerely hope and pray that never happens.
I don’t think it was meant like that…..
You are probably right, athena, but that kind of talk just makes me nervous. I’m not one of those name it and claim it positive confessors persons but even saying somethings can give it legs.
Tosk — you’ve got that right. Her eyes were on 2016. She might have even been Obama’s running mate in 2012, if Biden decided “to spend more time with family.”
Princess Caroline now may not be Biden’s replacement on the 2012 re-election ticket but Obama should replace Biden as soon as possible.
I never thought I’d say this but I would rather have Obama alive and well than have the alternative. Does Biden have dementia or some old age mental impairment?
Let me clarify that last statement. I have always wanted Obama alive and well but just not our president.
I dont think Obama will be able to make a successful run in 2012. I have a feeling that with al the crap he has already pulled that his ratings are going to be quite low by that time. I will make a bet that by the end of this year his ratings will be lower than Bushes were his firs year.
KintheNorthwest, be still my heart, I hope your predictions are right on target. But I’m afraid that the MSM will do everything in it’s power to get Obama re-elected and the sheeple will do exactly what the MSM brainwashes them to do, blame everyone else except Obama.
faith the media are the worst sort. 4 years ago they worshiped bush. look what happened. they’ll turn on obama. that is the nature of what they are. they can’t help themselves. people will grow bored and their eyes will glaze over with obama and racism. yawn. i’m getting sleepy just writing about it.
my point is he better enjoy this show now because people are already tired of this crap. we want to get on with our lives and get america going. we don’t want mean rappers or racism on the media 24/7. screw them. i want to get on with living. if obama can’t measure up there, his arse is out the door in 4. back to chicago to be the first aa president.
stodgie, I hope you’re right too except our culture has been ruled by political correctness for quiet some time and it just is not politically correct to put any blame of any minority.
Who knows maybe this whole situation will break the power of this monkey, politically correctness, off our culture’s back and let us begin to be honest with each other again.
We all know know that the minorities can speak honestly but if you’re white, you had better keep you opinion to yourself unless it is in politically correct lock step mode.
backlash! it has already started. i predicted from day one that the more poorly controlled forces would run amuck and now we have it. people will tire of it FAST!
stogie, if you’re right and I hope you are then it’s about time. I’m tired of all this double standards and double talk simple because of the color of one’s skin or the ethnic group you were born into. MLK had it right. Judge the character of a person not the color or ethnicity.

Honora, of course, tax and nanny issues are more severe for a woman. Well, not necessarily the tax side as much as the nanny side. How in the world can the American public believe that a woman who’s willing to push off her own children to let another woman “raise” them is truly fit to serve in office? (Note–that was sarcasm, folks. Unfortunately, while I intended it as sarcasm, there may be a lot of people who actually believe it in the deepest cockles of their hearts. Note how many “conservative” women “proudly” point out how they were willing to wait until their children were grown before becoming heavily active in politics. Of course, these women then seem to expect OTHER women to do likewise.)
Men are allowed to have “nanny issues” that are different from women. Men, to most of the public, are EXPECTED to foist off the raising of children to a woman (whether his wife or his mother or a hired stranger). As long as he’s not caught shtupping the nanny (or being accused of doing so) or he’s not caught fudging the nanny’s taxes or other paperwork, no one will think twice about a nanny. (I’ll note that the “shtupping” is only a real problem for a married man; for a single father, some may find it to be poor judgment, but it would rarely be an election concern as long as the nanny was of legal age when she was first employed compared to starting off as “just” a teenaged babysitter.)
Also, the “tax” issue provides more of a double-edged sword for women. A female politician is, unfortunately, judged on her husband’s finances as well as her own (witness the original troubles for Gerry Ferraro or Hillary’s recent travails while being confirmed). If she claims to have no knowledge of her husband’s finances, then how can the public trust her to understand government operations? If she claims to have been in charge of the family’s budget but left her husband in charge of tax preparation, well then, she’s obviously a fiscal nitwit, incapable of handling anything more than just simple addition and subtraction. If she claims to have total knowledge of all financial dealings and someone pulls a “gotcha!” on her (i.e., the husband’s secret bank account or the family’s accountant siphoned off money to his own account), she comes off as a braggart. A man in any of those situations is given more sympathy, often as being described as too trusting, but if he says that “he’s learned his lesson”, the public will forgive him.
For women, it’s ALWAYS the madonna/whore complex. Either she’s a saint who’s not supposed to know anything “dirty” and shouldn’t want to be a politician or she’s filthy gutter-trash who isn’t FIT to be a politician.
omg…LOL..well said
I’m confused. Isn’t the governor of Alaska a conservative woman with young children? And wasn’t it the liberals who gave her a hard time for not staying home and taking care of her children?
Actually, I don’t recall a single liberal who said that Palin should be home taking care of her children. I do remember liberals not liking a young earther, anti-choice, extremely conservative vp candidate.
Well I heard it and read about it from the MSM during the election and since the MSM is more liberal than conservative I assumed it was liberals that were saying it. My bad.
I heard it and read it too. She even responded in an interview when asked that question. Basically her comment was that why are men never asked who will care for the family while they serve?
if i were to take the time and google it, i’ll bet you i can find some dems would said something along those lines.
Sally Quinn for one.
i don’t know, I kinda’ like the version by Timothy Hutton in “Beautiful Girls” with Matt Dillon,
Noah Emmerich and Max Perlich singing to Uma Thurman.

CAROLINE SPEAKS
29 December 2008
WORD
Everybody has tough moments. I’ve lost family members that I love and that I miss everyday and so has many, many other people has dealt with an ill parent the loss of a family member and stuff and that’s a part of life I think I share those experiences with everybody else and if there’s ways I can help other people who are suffering some of the same things I have gone through I would love to do that. -
Caroline Kennedy
I suggest she volunteer for grief counseling if she wants to help people with their loss. Or, as I did, after losing my father and only brother 6 days apart, take Hospice training in order to help others whose family members who have died.
Whatever the reason, this is one woman I’m glad to see step back. Just as we would have liked the first black president to be someone wholly qualified and honorable, we should hope for he same in women. We don’t need more scandals in mid-term. Believe me, she would never have given up all that public adulation if there weren’t serious skeletons in her closet.
As for Timmy (I forgot) Geithner, I trust we can use that same excuse too. We can just invoke the Geithner Factor.
lol
Can you even imagine? Oops, forgot to pay 34 Grand.
I have to share this. Every time (and it’s been a lot lately in the world of politics) I hear “it was a mistake (or accident)” I think of The Last Boy Scout with Bruce Willis when he catches his friend hiding in his armoir after spending the night with his wife. And when his friend said “it was an accident”, Bruce says ” yeah sure sure, what happened, you tripped and accidentally your **** fell in my wife”? “Gee, I’m so sorry Mrs H, this just isn’t my day”?
lmao
Hahahaha. Haven’t seen the pic but will next time I see it on cable. Funny.
Now that I mentioned it, I have to see it again. It’s been way too long.
It is a great movie. Action and comedy.

So how come Obama backed Geithner (he of the forgotten taxes) and not Caroline?
Where are the howls of outrage by the Obots?
That bus has so many bodies under it I can barely see it from here.
I have to say, do you really think that taxes and Nanny is the issue?
She wasn’t running, they were seeking appointment. If this didn’t come out til she claimed it, it wouldn’t have before she was appointed.
It’s not like she needed a Senate confirmation. The Governor appoints.
Sorry, after the 3rd story, I don’t buy. One things we’ve seen, they lie a lot and without a problem. All in the name of politics. Look, Obama did it ALL the time.
…another story is being leaked. I wouldn’t call it truth.
This all kind of fits into my point in the post. She would have been appointed and none of this stuff would have come out until after the fact. She would have had the seat. She would have two years to battle back before running for election.
The Clintons have fought off worse. Members of her own family, including Uncle Teddy have fought off much worse.
Caroline is just not like that. She doesn’t like her dirty laundry out in public and once that reality set in, the buzz from the Obama campaign wore off and she realized this was not what she wanted.
As in boo hoo. For the first time in my life, I might be publicly questioned! Waaaa. I only want the love, the adoration and my very own fan club.
I think her experiences have stunted her growth. She sounds like a 25 yo, not 50.
Well, well . . . what goes around, comes around! It is good to see that karma can still be quite the
b!t@h! Should have gone with Hillary, Caroline. Millions of women are very disappointed in you.
There is but one Kennedy and his name is Joe. How he still wields power is beyond my grasp.
She’s a sexist woman and she helped to set sexism. She cannot complain now!

Ditto!
Hillary Clinton is still the best.
So good, so good, so good, so good!
LMFAO!
Karma really is catching up to the Obamatons quite fast.
Look at what has happened to Obama’s biggest supporters already. John Edwards; Judas Richardson; Caroline Kennedy; The New York Times is now propped up by Pesos.
I know I’m forgetting a few others. Who have I left out?
You forgot his choice for treasury secretary Geithner.
YOU FORGOT:
Ted Kennedy
Howard Dean
John Kerry
JJjr
All the Bot Volunteers stuck in the Purple Tunnel
Karma baby! KARMA!
Here’s some advice for them all:
GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Good job, Breeze!
Coward Dean!
He rigged the Primary so that Hillary had two big state wins taken away from her, while at the same time he added delegates to states he knew Obama would win. He totally slanted the rules to give Obama a healthy lead in delegates.
Then after he did all this for Obama, Obama turned around and treated him like dirt!
Wait and see…
Dean might receive the ‘two degrees from Obama’ post like they tried to get the Gov to accept.
Blago!!
mmmmh…Obama! when karma is going catching up to him?
Ok correct me if Im wrong.
Obama says he wants the people with money to pay more taxes so the people under a certain income level could get a break. Now this is the second person of Obama’s people that seem to have a tax problem.
If these two upstanding citizens are having problems paying taxes then where is the tax money going to come from.
I heard Hillary Voters did not want her to get it. She is an opportunist. And Hillary certainly wasn’t doign anythign to help her.
Good post, Rob, but let’s give Bill Bradley credit for being more than a “celebrity.” He had to perform to the best of his abilities on demand in highly stressful situations for a long time. He had to work as a team with other high-powered, ego-driven individuals. He hadn’t lived his entire life inside a cocoon of paid retainers and unpaid sycophants. I don’t have a problem with taking an expansive view of what constitute “qualifications” for public office, but the line has to be drawn somewhere.
I give Bill Bradley a lot of credit. I have met him on several occasions and have never not been impressed by the man.
While he was a Princeton Grad and Rhodes Scholar, he did not have a lot of time post Basketball to build a long political resume. He didn’t have to. He had the chance to make his case to the people and share his ideas for New Jersey and America. They decided to send him to office. That is what elections are about.
Point being, Caroline through her charitable efforts, legal work and writing has a pretty solid platform if she were to launch a legitimate run for office where she would have the opportunity to let people see her and weigh her qualifications (as they did with Bradley). After watching her performance, I doubt voters would have been impressed.
Very well said. I could not have said it better myself.
“Her appointment was going to be his opening to break the Clinton hold on New York State Democrats. ”
Thank you, RobWarrior, for revealing what Carolyn’s appointment was really about! Now it all makes sense.
justus, i think appointing carolyn would have been an opening for republicans to make a strong comeback and maybe take a senate seat in new york.
Please contact Gov. Paterson IMMEDIATELY in support of Carolyn Maloney.
She is a true progressive and a strong advocate of women’s rights.
He is about to appoint a conservative who just does not have her energy level.
Below is Maloney’s website, and Paterson’s contact.
Maloney:

Paterson:

So the NYT publisher is doing the nasty with Kennedy?
I don’t care how these 2 idiots entertain themselves, but
I am furious that Sulzberger used an important progressive
newspaper to get his girlfriend a senate seat.
He went way over the top.
Too bad you can’t fire an owner. It’s time for another progressive
paper.
I think all of you are missing the point. A key player in the Obama campaign was sleeping with the publisher of the New York Times.
That’s a big deal.
Did this affair affect the editorial policy of his newspaper?
of course it did. sulzberger damaged the ny times a great deal in recent years. from attacking the clintons to supporting the iraq war. if this kennedy story is true, i hope the family finally pulls the plug on this loser.
Sweet Caroline had a lesbian affair and it surfaced and she did not want a scandal.
Was it with Cracklin’ Rose?
Acutally, I heard it was a Kentucky Woman. Even though Obama lost their by 40 points.
I don’t care about the details although they seem to be ugly. I’m ecstatic that her bid is over.
The Kennedys put Gov Paterson is a very compromising situation and this was not the time to pull such a move. Clearly, they forgot that this was HRC’s state. And that many here were bitterly disappointed in the outcome of the election. Apparently, they were smug enough to think that just because NY went for 0bama that all was forgotten. Duh, NY is a BIG BLUE state. There was no way any Democratic candidate was going to lose the state, especially after Bush.
Of course, most New Yorkers reconciled their disappointment and voted 0bama. Add to that the large AA population, youth and latino voters. But Hillary’s core constituency was disappointed. And Caroline making the push for Hillary’s seat only conjured up those bitter feelings.
But since the msm has decided to rewrite history and pretend that there are no strong anti-0bama feelings remaining from the Primary and that a lot of people, like me, held this against Caroline, they’ve decided to make David Paterson the scapegoat and take it all out on him.
Could it be that they are paving the road for a Giuliania landslide. Get rid of the ‘incompetant’ black governor who had the unmitigated audacity to embarrass and humiliate a Kennedy. And Caroline, at that. Poor little rich Caroline, the only remaining heir to the original Camelot family which was beset with such tragedy.
I am so over the Kennedys I can’t tell you. Ted and his pal John Kerry took care of that with their ringing endorsement of 0bama a year ago.
But really, how incompetant was Caroline in this whole thing? I watched a replay of her fielding a question after her lunch with Al Sharpton and it was embarrassing. All the reporter asked was why did she suddenly want to take a stab at politics. And Caroline couldn’t answer that simple question. She giggled and smiled, held her head down like a shy teenager. I mean, really!
Did she think she would not be asked? Was she under the delusion that Senators should not be prepared with statements and answers to the press?
Clearly, she thought she could ‘Kennedy’ her way through this process. For years, she has walked passed the press, with her stoic silence and pursed lips and since she was a private citizen and the daughter and sister of JFK, Sr, and John-John the press respectfully let her slide. As well they should have.
But wanting to fill HRC’s Senate seat was a whole new ballgame. And for Caroline, who is supposed to be intelligent, educated and politically connected, not to know this, really demonstrates how unqualified she was for the job.
So how can this be Gov Paterson’s fault?
It’s not. But the msm, and the outraged politicians will now shift the onus onto him, by claiming he made the mess of the process. That he was sloppy.
Again, what was he supposed to do with the monkey wrench that Ted Kennedy, and Barack 0bama threw at him in the person of Caroline Kennedy who was clearly pursuing the seat on a lark?
It was the dialliance of a spoiled rich girl and when it became too hard, to uncomfortable, she wanted to run back to her cocoon. Caroline did not think the whole thing out. She fantasized that us voters here in NY would just flip with glee to have her.
To me, the lesson is that it’s time for the msm and the political elite to stop living in denial about the vestigial feelings of anger, bitterness and resentment over the way 0bama was rammed down our throats. They are courting danger if they continue to insist that we all drank the kool-aid and are raptureously in love with this new President.
We all are not.
And it’s not just a few of us.
And if they persist in ignoring this reality, they are going to keep getting into jams like this Caroline fiasco.
I wrote the Gov and told him if he picked her, I would not vote for him. I’m sure a lot of New Yorkers did likewise. Paterson was in a ‘damned if he does, damned if doesn’t’ mess. And we are going to see this play out from here.
So even though his final choice was not mine, and personally I don’t understand why he chose this upstate Democratic conservative, I respect that he marched to his own drummer with the attitude of: ‘if I’m going down, I’m going down swinging. I’m going to be my own man.’
Considering all that he’s up against with the msm still enthralled with their 0bama love fest, I salute him.
And screw rich Caroline Kennedy who apparently doesn’t pay her taxes and probably has employed illegal aliens and her lover boy at the NY Times. She has made a mockery of the legacy her parents left her and he has made a mockery of freedom of the press. I’m counting the days for the NY Times to die.
I noticed that the NY Times has stopped covering the story.
