It’s 10 Minutes ’til LD’s Radio Show! (& Open Thread)

Program concluded & promo bumped back … Afterwards, the archived show is up at BlogTalkRadio or via iTunes/iPod (see our instructions in the right column under No Quarter Radio).)

Join us in 10 minutes for LD’s weekly radio show tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET to 9:00 p.m. ET. We’ll discuss a wide array of financial and economic issues from Wall Street and around the world.

You are welcome to call in with questions and comments any time during the show. Dial in to (347) 677-0792 and turn down your computer volume since you can listen to the show for the brief time you’re on hold.

You can also log in to BlogTalkRadio.com, and join the live chat room during the show. (The chat room usually gets going about five minutes before the show.)

Our “very special guest” for our “LD’s Dollars and Sense” is an individual who, in my estimation, has more professional Wall Street relationships than any other individual. Allow me to share the background of the legend that is … Michael Maloney.

Michael started working on Wall Street in the mid-1960s at the tender age of 16 for a specialist firm on the floor of the NYSE. In 1970, Mr. Maloney was an equity block trader for the venerable Stone and Webster. In the late ’70s, Michael moved into the world of financial recruitment and career consulting. He is known as “the man to see” for those looking to move onto or within the world of Wall Street. He has longstanding relationships that would fill the Manhattan directory and has lived to tell about them. From placing chief investment officers to back office assistants, from working with the major investment houses to startups, Michael truly epitomizes the phrase, “it’s not merely what you know but who you know.”

Please join us for a fascinating look back and, simultaneously, a piercing view forward with “the man to see,” Michael Maloney!!

Larry Doyle has continued to track his original investigative report on the nomination of prospective SEC chairwoman Mary Schapiro, “Let’s Really Question Ms. Schapiro.” Larry scoured news and investment sites for any background information on Ms. Schapiro, and also read the 68-page 2008 annual report of FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, which raised a large number of questions about Ms. Schapiro’s abilities as a “watchdog,” as a “cop on the beat.”

We are living through a truly historic and challenging economic period. We want to help you make sense of it all.

Two weeks ago, for example, we were joined by insurance expert Sean D’Arcy of Northwestern Mutual (this show is a must for everyone who has an insurance policy and, since we all do, make sure you catch this important program). LD also wrote up the discussion in this story, “Got Insurance? 529 Plans? Financial Aid?…Read On….”

The week before, Kevin Doyle, founder of 12th Street Capital and former senior executive at Countrywide, joined us from 8:15-8:45pm. We discussed the dynamics and development of the sub-prime mortgage business, the outlook for regulations and the rating agencies, and much more. Fascinating discussion. For those who care the shows are archived.

Larry Johnson’s business partner, John Moynihan, joined us on December 21st. John is an expert in forensic accounting and money laundering. We discussed the Bernie Madoff situation and fraudulent activities in general. Also fascinating.

Get the real “behind the scenes” look from financial experts only here at “No Quarter’s Dollars and Sense with LD.”

Afterwards, the archived show will be up at BlogTalkRadio or via iTunes/iPod (see our instructions in the right column under No Quarter Radio).)

AND: Check out Larry’s series of “Central Station” posts in which he takes questions from you, and answers them. The latest “Central Station” was yesterday morning, January 24th, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Hey, these comments are very old. I mean like truly dated. At first I thought it was deja vu.
But these comments are from an old post, yeah?

Wow, Tom Brokaw gets TOUGH with Barack - not really, of course.

>>>Noting that the White House was a no-smoking zone, Brokaw asked Obama, “Have you stopped smoking?”

“I have,” Obama replied, smiling broadly. “What I said was that there are times where I have fallen off the wagon.”

“Wait a minute,” Brokaw interjected, “that means you haven’t stopped.”

“Fair enough,” Obama said. “What I would say is that I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier. You will not see any violations of these rules in the White House.”>>>

The Great Bamboozler could not give a straight answer - Barack simply cannot be straight with the American people, but must go for the ol’ okey-doke and hoodwink EVERY time.

David Watts

(by Ray Davies)

For educational purposes, only.

Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa

I am a dull and simple lad
Can not tell water from champagne
And I have never met the queen
And I wish I could have all that he has got
I wish I could be like david watts

Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa

And when I lie on my pillow at night
I dream I could fight like david watts
Lead the school team to victory
And take my exams and pass the lot

(wish I could be)
Wish I could be like david watts
(wish I could be)
Wish I could be like david watts
(wish I could be)
Conduct my life like david watts
(wish I could be)
I wish I could be like david watts

Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa

He is the head boy at the school
He is the captain of the team
He is so gay and fancy free
And I wish all his money belonged to me
I wish I could be like david watts

Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa

And all the girls in the neighborhood
Try to go out with david watts
They try their best but can’t succeed
For he is of pure and noble breed

Wish I could be like
Wish I could be like
Wish I could be like

Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
(repeat)

See, there’s nothing like a seasoned pro who has been through ups and downs to guide us through the the tumult of the present day. Experience is an asset! Who knew?

Listening to the show right now, LD is tossing out lots of meaty nuggets to chew on regarding the bailout. Nice detail.

I don’t understand most of the posts on this thread — must be an administrative mistake of some kind.

Missed the show unfortunately. But a friend in an insurance-related industry told me a while back that Northwestern Mutual was the best, albeit more expensive which is understandable if the claim is true. We have Genworth policies and are worried — I’ve heard the company may tank. I suppose another company could buy Genworth but I wonder what it will all mean for the value of our existing policies.

Some of the posts are very direct, Susan said we can use the open threads for whatever purpose we feel — as with street art, sometimes the artist or the poet tags, too.

That’s why some of us love NQ, Larry doesnt get bent out of shape, seems to GET the creative types.

But you brought up a good point, I didn’t know other insurance companies were in trouble, too,(other than AIG) and I should check it out…

Patience,

It is an open thread over a period of time.

The show was very informative (talking my position, I guess!!).

It is taped and archived and also now available on ITunes podcast. Hope you have time to catch it.

In a way I cant believe this but oh well its only money. Obama’s ingauration is so far going to be 4 times more expensive than any other Presidental ingauration. Ok this is getting really sick.

Hasnt Obama heard? Peaople are losing jobs, companies are folding, people are losing homes, and the list goes on. WHY….If I remember my history right several presidents cut down the celebrations when times were tough and there was a war.
