I agree; Israel's actions must be looked at in a more realistic light.

I would look very closely at the time after Rabin's murder, Netanyahu elected to office.

Israel's hard right wing must be seen for what it is...

Clinton highlighted that he regretted not being able to persuade Arafat to the peace plan? That's a gross distortion of the facts, I'm sorry--but not surprised--to say.

In fact, Arafat and Ehud Barak were quite close to a peace agreement, at Taaba; but it was Ehud Barak who broke off the negotiations. So, Clinton's just pandering to the Israeli Lobby again, if he's pushing that meme.

The truth is this: Politicians are restrained from frank talk about the Israeli government in this country, because the Israeli Lobby here has proven to be a formidable force over the past 3 decades. That creates a huge distortion of our foreign policy with regard to the Middle East.

Numerous politicians--Paul Findley for one, but there are so many others--have lost their seats when they spoke frankly about the Israeli government's policies. Findley's book, "They Dared to Speak Out," was written decades ago; nothing has changed since then. No dissent is allowed; no criticism of Israel is tolerated. This is a political lobby which has influence far beyond its small percentage of the voting public in this country. VA Congressman Jim Moran is well-acquainted with AIPAC and it's influence; he's been threatened by them, and has lost some seniority in the House as a result.

Obama has been warned as well, and has learned his lesson well, obviously. Rahm Emmanuel, Obama's Chief of Staff, will assure there will be no change on Israel. There will only be war, war and more war. Dennis Ross is just another example of the continuation of the Bush policy under Obama.

Yes, and as Bill Clinton highlighted again today, this, him not being able to persuade Arafat to the peace agreement, as his number 1 regret.
