Very sorry to hear about your knees Amy. My partner has some bad knees too.

It is funny when a country is so desperate they will pick a lesbian to fix it. It is about time is all I have to say. Hopefully it will be more than a "care taker". However, when the crisis usually passes, it is back to the same old same old. Iceland does have a different culture than ours..so I will hope for a better outcome.

I am not going to wring my hands about Powers or Rice. It won't solve a thing. Hillary already has her envoys in place.

Amy, sorry to hear you have problems with your knee. I do want to repeat something I said on another thread about Hillary. Her influence goes way beyond politics in the US. She is known and admired around the world and I don't think Powers or Rice have what it takes to make problems for her. In her address to State the other day, she pretty much made it clear she would not put up with petty grievances. She once said Bill was a force of nature and she is also and her influence is deep and wide. Susan Rice wouldn't know diplomacy if it hit her in the ass.

I think it's great Iceland has a woman prime-minister! I hope Iceland with Johanna S. as their new leader can get their economy back on its feet.

Samantha Power does seem to be an "insult" to Hillary Clinton but somehow I think it will all backfire on Obama if that is his intention. Most people don't know who Samantha is but the nation knows who Hillary is. For those of us who know something about Power, it's all negative so she better be careful with what she says because her "feet will be held to the fire."

You know, I really, really want to believe that simply isn't the case, but given Obama's Chicago history it's irresponsible NOT to question his deals.

It's all such a scam.

I wonder how his PAC is doing?

Wow, Katmoon - thank you for sharing your story! I am sorry about your husband - what a devastating blow that must have been to you!

And how far you have come on your own! what a strong, impressive woman you are! I am amazed at your strength...

And interesting abt the ortho and oncology. This is not the first surgery I have had, and sadly, will not be the last. (And I love swimming.) But, I'm doing the work, and that makes all the difference!

And you ARE young to have RA! Glad you are able to manage it right now (and I hear ya at the medications).

Thanks again, Katmoon!

We all do that from time to time, everyone has strong opinions, and we all have to watch when we border on more than disagreeing, and we can all be insulting as well. We are trying, and I appreciate your response.

We are all concerned, just coming at that concern from different viewpoints.

Remarks made in the heat of a primary campaign don’t really mean much.

They do to people who actually understand English. That you are incapable of understanding polysyllabic words is your problem and not ours.

That One lied during the primary campaign. Is there any part of "lie" which you fail to grasp?

As for "getting over it". I am over it and buffoons like you. The second part you should direct at yourself, snookums.

Remarks made in the heat of a primary campaign don't really mean much. If this is the point that Amy is making, all I can say is, my God, how can you be so naive?

I mean, you're kidding, right? Samantha and Hillary are adults, and aren't really the imagined middle-school rivalry that is clearly driving your wambulance.

Get over it, and grow up.

I am alright. back to school, last semester before transfer. I am so glad I went back. I had to stop outright at my senior year, a long time ago, when my husband was killed. The school would not let me take a sabbatical, and I was also forced to continue paying on my student loans, although, the funds to pay for them no longer existed. No will, married 3 months, and a co-tenancy agreement with his ex, found my single mom fanny out on the street.
Fast forward 15 years later, (almost done paying off the loan), I still could not stand the fact I had not finished what I had started. Things changed, I was a surgical RN, hiring contingent on graduation, but allowed to work in the OR during the last two years of school. You would have thought with the shortage in nursing, somehow, someway, the school would have been able to at least give me some time off. Yet, as we know, sometimes events occur in which we have no understanding in the moment, yet much later there seems to be peace with having moved on.
I am in a paralegal/political science program(with 184 full semester units), excited about graduating at the A.S., level and moving on to the B.S./B.A. I used to feel embarrassed to admit that, I had academic shame, but no more. I am proud that I continued, even though I was a bit afraid, and very unsure of my abilities. Going back has moved me to a place of understanding about myself that I didn't have before, this was for me, not for the degree, not for the job or the money, but for me. When I was a little girl, I told one of my teachers I wanted to be a lawyer, and he said I would probably make a good secretary one day, but girls just weren't smart enough to be lawyers. I believed him, I believed those lines so often, until I was able to make contact with my father again, and he helped me realize what lies were being told and why.

Yes, the weather is so cold right now, but it is winter after all.

When your knee is healed, try swimming if the doc will let you, it is amazing how much movement you can have without pain, when you do not have to fight so much with gravity to move the injured part. I am sorry you had to have this surgery; folks do not realize that most orthopedic surgery has an equal component of pain to oncology; it is the bloodiest, and most painful of work to have done, but it also yields the greatest results of the best quality of life improvement for the patient. My RA is young in its life, but is also under good control with medication, which I hate that, but there is no choice. I have a new profound respect for pain, and have come to understand what pain can force us to do as people(the thinking process that goes with pain, very different). IT does wear on a person, but I am one of the fortunate, as it is under control.

How I do ramble on... I am glad to "see" you again, will snuggle with all the kitties and stay very warm tonight.

And given the “Chicago way,” exactly how much money will Obama and the rest gain from this stimulus?

Probably more than Cheney got for the Iraq war and that is a tidy sum.
